Hello and Welcome to Millicent Fauxly Quest.

Millicent Fauxly is am intelligent and good willed first year Hogwarts student. Housed in Ravenclaw and from a noble Pureblood family Millicent has a good understanding of the wizarding world, yet struggles with terms such as ‘mudblood’ and seeing house elfs as anything more than servants.

You come across a stall set up outside Gringotts bank where around twenty or so boys and girls in their twenties are handing out pamphlets. The banner above their heads reads 'Equal Sentient Rights'.

Whilst the those in the throng of the stall seem to be enthusiastic about their cause, none seem to be shouting or causing too much of a fuss.

"Do you want to see what they're doing?" asks Olivia.
Her parents turn up their lips in agreement. Mrs. Borchard takes the book they bought from the shop out of her purse and peruses quickly through a chapter.

"Henry"
"Yes, my dear?"
"It says we should 'show enthusiasm for our daughter's interests in magic and magical engagements if we are to form a lasting muggle/witch relationship'"
"Muggle/Witch relationship" he parrots "if that's what the book suggests"

Mr. and Mrs. Borchard push gently on both your backs and move you towards the stall. You all grab pamphlets which you take with you to the other corner of the alley as to be away from the bustling crowd.

The Pamphlet details the ministry's attempts to cover up the near extinction of giants, the brutality house elfs face every day, and even the unjustness which comes from polluting Murpeople water.

"EQUAL RIGHTS FOR SENTIENTS!"

"Millicent, Olivia?!" comes an all-too-familiar voice from the stalls.

Harriet, adorned with badges and hands filled with pamphlets, skips over.

She's looking as beautiful as ever with her pretty angular features, brilliant red hair tied up in a bob, dressed in a modest crimson coat.

Any chance you had of avoiding her ahead of time has gone, now you've got to bear the brunt of her spiel.

"I'm so glad you girls are here, we're trying to spread the word about the travesty that is our current political climate"

You get the clear idea that she's parroting the lines off one of the pamphlets.

"Can I trust you'll sign up to our cause?" she says.

As if by instinct you turn to Olivia who mulls it over.

"I'll take a pamphlet and get back to you on it" she says

"Get going soon" says Mr. Borchard

That leaves you with just enough time to buy a broom.

- Enchanted Hand-mirror - 1 galleon

Let's ask the shopkeeper what the hand-mirror does.

As far as magical abilities... unfortunate. How are we in terms of wealth? Do we have access to a large portion or small?

Furthermore, is there a list of what charms we do/don't know? We could get away with pure murder if we employ some Muggle techniques in the wizarding world.

Last thread we were told that we have 30 galleons.
It could be that's all we have on hand at the moment, or it could be the remainder of our original 40 galleons, and our parents haven't given us more money yet, or our new allowance is so small that the sum of our new allowance and what we had left over is 30 galleons.

The fact of the matter is, we only had 30 galleons at the start of this shopping trip, and we've already spent 9.
>>

don't. we don't have a remotely godd enough grasp on the muggle world to well gold for cash. It's also plausible that wizard currency is enchanted in some way that prevents this stuff from happening, we couldn't be the first person in the world to think of this.

You produces the sneakoscope, it's a little spinner that'll spin by itself whenever dark magic is being used nearby. It's got some scratches on it, the paint work has diminished and overall this item looks like it must be at least a decade old.

Ask the mirror a personal question only we would know.

You put the enchanted mirror aside and examine the fizzle snappers; they're little fireworks which shoot across their air like a flying lizard before snapping into a little mini-firework.

You try on Olivia's glasses and find the world in a rainbow colored spectrum and, true to what she said, find that little flies dance around some people's heads. What they're up to you have no idea, but it doesn't seem to be anything dangerous.

You hand the glasses back to Olivia.

You make your way back through the Leaky Cauldron, finding your family has moved on, and continue onto the street where the Borchard's have their cars parked.

From what you know about cars this one's a banged up little number that's seen far better days. Mr. Borchard opens the door for you as you step hesistantly inside and sit down, on such a warm day the inside of the car gives you a headache. Olivia hops in beside you a moment later.

"We're off!" says Mrs. Borchard
"off!" says Mr. Borchard, parroting her once again.

That's a quirk that's already starting to annoy you. You suspect it's like white noise to Mrs. Borchard.

Despite the fact we're being a little to obsessive about the book. Like, a Star Trek fanboy giving you a complete DVD and Bluray set of every Star Trek show imaginable to you to watch, and he'll quiz you the next day on what you've seen so far.

I think that Murwoman music box might sound best when you're underwater. Just a hunch.

I'd say Millie would probably be pretty curious about experiencing a car first-hand, so she'd probably pester the Mrs. and Mr. Borchard with questions while looking at what the driver was doing.

"This is for you"

You hand her the worn copy of Beedle the Bard. She takes it slowly and holds her hand against the cover flicking through the pages. She turns to you with watery eyes and smiles.

"Thank you, I'll give it a read before bed"

The journey out of London is a fascinating one, despite the fact you've discovered you can get a little carsick. The muggle world is far larger and interesting that you previously gave it credit for.

"Would you like to put on some music?" says Mrs. Borchard

You look around for a record player, and failing that, some sort of enchanted instrument.

"Sure" says Olivia

With a single push of a button by the car's steering wheel music begins to play all around you. It's like nothing you've ever heard before, it's like classical music but...stronger? With more of an edge? You just want to sing to it!

"MOMAAAAA, OOOOOH~ DIDN'T MEAN TO MAKE YOU CRY~ IF I'M NOT BACK AGAIN THIS TIME TOMORROW~"

The song 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen plays in it's entirety, it's the music of the god's, the music to end all music you have ever head, like a breath of fresh air.

When the song end you ask for it to played again, your near-prefect recall ready to sing along. Mrs. Borchard plays it again.

What follows is one of the greatest moments of your life; sitting with your best friend in the backseat of a muggle car rocking out to the best of muggle music, giving you an insight into them that you never had before.

You sing with Olivia, your voices mixing together like liquid gold as you pretend to play the guitar and play the drums.

When the song ends you feel amazing.

Mr. Borchard turns round to you both.

"Bloody hell" he says "You two might be onto something here, bloody good voices on the both of you"

The car journey to Olivia's house becomes an odyssey of muggle music; listening to all the best bands. After an hour of music you arrive at Olivia's house; a small little place on an out of the way street. Tara is just as happy as you are to finally get out of the car and get inside.

Olivia leads you around the house to be better aquainted; two bathrooms, three bedrooms, kitchen - yaddy yadda.

By muggle standards it's a middle-class home for a working-class family. You're led into Olivia's room where a second inflatable bed has been set out for you.

Her bedroom is just about the pinkest room you've ever seen; with princesses and posters of movies lining the walls. Teddy bears, teddy bears everywhere.

Rolled 92

You go down stairs with Olivia and sit in front of a large square box with loads of shiny bits and bobs sitting beneath it, glowing with tiny red dots here and there. Olivia idly takes a disc from a plastic case and opens a cabinet below the box and, without any magic whatsoever, a square box opens up and eats the disc with a whirring noise.

The box bursts to life with color as you've never seen before. Olivia sits with you on the sofa as you watch a story of a little mermaid princess unfold.

Although feeling somewhat queasy to begin with, what with the majority of the story being set beneath the sea, you find the muggle representation of murpeople a fascinating one. The way they are human with magical abilities instead of their own sub-species. You were right also about the uses of magic within muggle stories, the way it's used as a device to make the wonderous happen.

This Ariel isn't the smartest of characters either, not to mention the fact she remins you of Harriet.

Nearing the end of the movie you're thoroughly enjoying it as you idly look to Olivia to guage her reaction. She's so into the movie you might as well not be there..you get the impression that she has spent many nights sat on the sofa like this, watching stories of magical princesses alone.

When the movie ends she snaps out of her trance and looks at you.

"That was brilliant! Is there...more?" you say.

Olivia gives a wicked grin.

"Millie" said says simply "You are about to have your first movie marathon"

And what a movie marathon it is; you watch Star Wars (the originals), about a half-dozen Disney movies and even some television. A lot of it is mind bogglingly confusing for you and too out there for you to comprehend, however the base emotions of what the characters are going through is tangible enough for you to understand what they're trying to put across.

The marathon lasts over the course of three days, with walks around the local area such as the muggle shops and parks to fill the time in between.

The most curious moment during your stay was having dinner with the Borchard's; it was then, eating a sunday roast, that you realised just how isolated Olivia's life used to be. Her parents were, and still are in a way, her best friends. She can speak to them about anything, her mother and father are the nicest people you've ever met and always have time to check if you're both okay. There is a real connection Olivia has with her parents that you so clearly do not have with your own that it almost hurts your heart to think about it.

As the first week passes you realise how much you miss Maud, the new here as still been like a big sister to you despite her amnesia. Never do you feel like the roles have been reversed; she's smarter than ever and more open and honest with you than she ever was before the whole betrayal last year. She's different but still very much the sister you've always known.

It's now late at night on the a sunday, Joel's going to be arriving tomorrow morning. You lay in bed looking up at the ceiling, with Olivia in hers doing the same thing, hugging her ferret Pete close like another one of her teddy bears.

>Olivia...how do you feel about Joel?
>Am I the first friend you've had in your house?

So many mixed feelings with that. Like did she take something away from our relationship with our parents, or did she just make us aware of something that was missing from the beginning?

This is why that mirror was a good purchase.

Not sure what to do about joel, I was homeschooled at that time in my life so i'll leave it to you guys to decide what's appropriate romancewise at that age.

"Olivia?" you say in a whisper
"Yeah?" she whispers back, Pete's squeaks breaking the silence in little intervals.
"What was it like...living like a muggle...before you got your letter?"

Silence fills the room for several moments which leads you to think Olivia might not answer.

"...it wasn't great" she says "You're the first friend who'se ever come back to my house for a sleepover. I've learned to live alone, I love my parents but they never took me out to play with other kids when I was small. I wish I could say it was because when I got angry, or upset, weird things would happen...but that's not the truth. People just didn't like me because I didn't know how to behave around them. It's hard to explain. But when I got my letter, and came to Hogwarts, it was a new chance to start over. Then I found you, I could see that we were sort of the same...that's why I stuck with you. I would give up being a witch, and going to Hogwarts and the whole lot as long as it meant we could still be friends"

"While I am really touched by that sentiment, could you maybe phrase it differently? Someone already did give up almost everything for my sake, and even thinking about something like that happening again..."
>>
>>24413651
Adding to this:
"Last year was really hard for me. My parents were mad at me for being in Ravenclaw, everyone was afraid of me for what I did to Charles, and then there was the whole thing with the Trident and Maud...You were the only person who helped and trusted me through the whole thing. I would too."
>>
>>24413566
"We are kind of the same, I never played with other kids because my parents had this whole pure blood superiority thing. When I got older I started feeling superior as well, it was only when I got to Hogwarts that I started realizing how alone I was."

"I like your parents, I wish mine were like them."
>>
Rolled 23

You don't really have anything to say as you think of Olivia spending the first eleven years of her life alone, and how that parallels with your own life. It's almost like you're two sides of the same coin; the muggleborn and the pureblood.

"I was alone too" you tell her, sitting up a little and holding out your hand, which she takes gently "I didn't even realise it but I was trapped, alone and afraid to make any lasting connections with anyone. After last year I feel I've changed into a new person, and the only person who stuck by me all the way was you. I won't forget that. Ever"

You continue chatting throughout the night talking of minial things before drifting off to sleep.

Roll 1d100. 65 or less.

Well, I certainly enjoy some One Piece and Digimon, DBZ is okay. The rest not so much, especially Pokemon.

Try Last Exile, Spice & Wolf, or Seirei no Moribito. These are all modernish anime that I feel are pretty good without overly relying on the characterization and tropes that make a lot of shows out there feel more like inside jokes for the Otaku subculture and thus are pretty great watches for people not too into the whole thing.

I actually don't really like Evangelion. About two years ago. My problem with it is that it sort of falls flat of telling a whole story. It has a lot of neat ideas and symbolism to it that captures the imagination and really makes it stick in your mind for years to come but they feel almost tacked on and separate from the actual plot.

I was kind of hoping the movies would fix this but they kind of don't seem to be.

A twelve-year old girl would enjoy: having a crush on an unattainable male idol, talking about boys and how dumb they are, sharing secrets and sometimes revealing them to others, making silly lists about all the people they know with a friend, having wildly unrealistic dreams about what they're going to do when they grow up, making silly promises and sometimes breaking them, getting in arguments with their best friend and then sobbing about how everything is UTTERLY RUINED and how you can never be friends again and then making up a few days later. Having a secret crush on a boy is highly likely, though they may not even admit/realise it themselves. Quiet (or not so quiet) rebellion against the status quo in silly ways that make adults/parents worry.

Girls can like adventuring/climbing on things/discovering neat places just as much as guys.

Sorry for the disjointed post, it's been a long day and it's been a long time since I was a twelve year old girl.

Pic slightly related, these things were fun at that age, would be neat to see a magical version of it make an appearance.

Without being a dick OP i'll just go to the basics: "don't tell me, SHOW me."

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,

first sentence: "We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold."

you don't know who they are, but the name adds legitimacy. They're people in a place that sounds like a real place. maybe some people recognize it. At any rate, they're in a desert (which can be deadly) and they're getting high, which means they're either dangerous drug users, some sort of criminal or innocent people in very deep trouble.

with no actual description of the characters, the humanist in the reader is inclined to care about them, the story's had literally only just begun and they're already walking that razor thin line between life and death.

you can do better.

it's not bad, but the opening is weak and the descriptions are blocky and i don't really feel anything for the characters.
