And we're back!

You are JAGER STURMFUHRER, leader of the Gallian mercenary company DEMONS OF RANDGRIZ. You've just put your own little mercenary squad together and have set out to help the Altantic Federation member nation Albion repel a possible amphibious invasion.

Now just have to deal with this crazy claymore wielding bastard.

"The name's Jack. Jack Church. 7th Albion SOE." The Albionese soldier says, shaking your hand. "You're one of those mercs Command hired, right?"

"That's right." You nod, still trying but failing to peel your eyes away from Jack's claymore. "Jager Sturmfuhrer, Demons of Randgriz."

"Gallians, eh? Heard you guys gave those Imps a pounding!"

We're Gallians, the person who shows up with a weapon is already ahead of the rest of the militia.

If you add up all the mainline missions it's probably more like for or five times. Say this and then say "If those idiots at army command had agreed to the old plans to make a mass production model the Imperials probably wouldn't have gotten past Girlendio. Fortunately, they've rectified that mistake" Gesture to the tank.

"You're damn right we did!" You reply. "Sent them running back with their tails between their legs!"

"Makes me glad we've got guys like you watching our backs!" Jack laughs as he slaps you on the back, just a tad too hard. "I don't deny the Home Guard is motivated, but they're not exactly soldier material."

"Are you talking about those fellows up there?"

You point to a knot of soldiers, if they could even be called that. They were mostly older men who had to have at least been past their fifties. They were also mostly in civilian clothes, with only armbands and a few helmets signifying their military status. Hell, most of them weren't even holding a weapon.

"That's right." Jack nods. "They're supposed to be the first line of defense, too."

>Maybe we should talk to them. Familiarize ourselves with the locals.
>Try to get more info from Church

I've had this character concept for an aggressive Darcsen who answers prejudice with physical force for the longest time... probably about 4 years ago, while I was still on my first playthrough of the VC 1 campaign. It's a shame I missed the soldier creation thread.

Then again it might be a good thing, because the back story I mentally pieced together for him over the years is full of melodramatic shit.
>>
>>24388858
A few months after the official end of the Invasion of Gallia. So, near the end of 1935. The Gallian Civil War and VC2 haven't happened yet.
>>
>>24388827
Could just be me, but whenever something is even vaguely connected to WW2, Churchill will show up in some way or form.

I won't tell you to stop using him, though. I'm not that much of an asshole, Just felt like I had to get that off my chest.

>>24388835
I didn't really mind him, since watching a ton of mecha shows kinda makes you numb to dumb, hot-blooded protagonists, really the biggest thing that bothered me about him was that dumb lifted knee pose he makes during some cutscenes.
>>
>>24388921
Break it down to the pointers, make the character, and then save it. Someone is bound to bite the dust.
>>
>>24388958

>>24388948
Very rarely is someone who is universally considered that much of a dumb-ass in universe suffered absolutely no consequences for is abject, unrepentant stupidity. Plus, look at his epilogue, it's not like he learned anything. If Avan sacrificed himself to save Zeiri instead of Juliana things would have been much more interesting.

"So, Jack," You say, looking around the docks, "do you have any idea who's in charge around here?"

"I only know as much as you do." Jack shrugs.

As if on cue, a staff car car pulls up to the docks, drawing some attention from the surrounding dock workers. However, the glares from the heavily armed escorts trailing just behind convince them to return to work.

"Ah, looks like that's the welcome party." Jack says.

The door to the staff car opens and out steps a very prim and proper officer. You're vaguely reminded of General Damon in how the man is so concerned with his outward appearance, though you quickly banish the thought. The less you remember of Damon the better.

"Major Church. Captain Sturmfuhrer." The officer says the names as a statement, not a question. "Colonel Lynch, Albion Intelligence. I'll be in charge of both of your units for the time being."

"Sounds good to me. What are our orders?" You're not too concerned with the details. You're just foreign mercs fighting for money. You don't really care about the Albion higher ups and you're pretty damn sure they don't care about you either.

"I'm sure you will find this very sudden, but we already have a mission for you."

Okay, now THIS took you by surprise. You expected to at least have some time to settle in to your surroundings, but it seems like you're literally getting dropped feet first into the furball. The frown on Jack's face seemed to indicate he's just as surprised as you are.

"What's the mission, sir?" You ask, deciding that pressing the issue now wouldn't help.

"Your orders." Lynch nods to one of his aides, who hands both you and Jack sealed envelopes. He then promptly spins on his heel and reenters his car, the vehicle screeching away.

"Never did like that guy." Jack mutters.

"You know him?" You ask Jack as Colonel Lynch's staff car disappears over the horizon.

"A bit." Jack scowls. "Thing is, the man's terrifyingly good at what he does. Always had a sense of what the Imps would do next. It's thanks to him the Ossies and Yukes managed to push as far into the Empire as they have now. I don't know how many strings the Prime Minister pulled to get him transferred back here, but if they felt they needed him here, well, things are gonna get bad."

"You make it sound like he's a real patriot."

"That he is. The problem is that he'll do anything to protect Albion, even if it means sacrificing a few mercs to do it.."

"That's so encouraging."

"Ah, don't let it bother you. I promise you that me and the 7th SOE got your back!"

Nodding, you finally decide it's time to open your orders.

"Why wouldn't he want the Home Guard involved with this? We could always use more boots on the ground." You ask.

"The Colonel's probably afraid they'll cock it up somehow." Jack shrugs. "Last time Command tried sending them out on a serious mission, they thought a different Home Guard platoon was an invading Imp force and opened fire. It was a goddamn miracle nobody was killed."

"It sorta helped that half of them couldn't shoot for beans." One of Jack's men quips.

"And the other half weren't even armed." Another adds in.

You nod. You've wasted enough time here and you turn to your squad.

"Demons of Randgriz, it's time to earn our pay! MOVE OUT!"

"How are we going to handle this, Cap?" Sam asks.

You double check the coordinates. According to the map, it's supposed to be a small cottage on the edge of town, near the forest. There's quite a bit of open ground around it, but it's close enough to the town that you should be able to get pretty close without anybody there noticing.

"Okay, we're going in slow and steady on this one, boys and girls." You say over the radio as you ride a loaned truck to the objective, Julia's tank following close behind. Nobody seems to pay any mind. Apparently this sort of thing is common in Albion.

"Tarin and Brillant will approach the objective from the town. The rest of us will stay hidden but be ready to support. Jack and his men will be approaching from the forest. They'll neutralize any sentries they find. Once the signal is given, we move in and take out the rest of them."

The rest of the squad voices their affirmatives. It's not long until you reach the edge of town. Your squad dismounts and Julia shuts off her engine.

Without a word, both Tarin and Brillant make their way to the cottage. Thankfully, the field around it hadn't been well kept, meaning the scouts had more than ample cover to approach unseen.

The rest of the squad, including you, keep your weapons trained on the cottage. Even though it's beyond your ideal effective range, you could at the very least suppress any enemies inside in case things went south.

Tarin and Brillant make their approach.

Unfortunately, it looks like something really did go wrong. You see Tarin motioning at Brillant to get down, and both scouts hit the dirt, disappearing into the tall grass.

Looking through your binoculars, you can now see movement in the cottage. The door swings open and a trio a men in civilian garb storm out. They're only armed with pistols, but they're obviously spooked and ready to use them.

"I think they're on to us, sir." Tarin whispers through the comm. "Orders?"

"My men are in position. We can take them out." Jack says over his comm.

"Take them out, but quietly if you can. We've got no idea how many more are in there."

"Roger that." Tarin says.

Fortunately, your scouts and Jack are smart enough to let the enemy patrol disperse a bit before trying to engage them. Like a savannah cat, Tarin pops up behind the rearmost guard. In one smooth motion she clamps her hand over his mouth and pulls him down.

"I count at least five more hostiles inside. Mostly armed with pistols and SMGs. I think we can take them."

"Breach! Be sure to take at least one of them alive."

"Hold up. I've got an idea here." Tarin says.

From the distance, you see Tarin and Brillant huddle together as they seem to be hammering out some sort of plan. Brillant nodes and takes position near the window, his rifle ready. Tarin positions just opposite of him and reaches out her fist.

And then knocks on the window as hard as she can.

You're left wondering what the hell she's thinking when you see a silhouette appear in the window, gazing out to the field to see what caused the noise. In one synchronized motion, Brillant smashes the window open and throws a frag grenade inside. At the same time, Tarin pulls the man through the window. She flips her knife around and strikes him with the handle instead of the blade, knocking him out.

The explosion is the signal for Jack and his men to move in.

"As fast as you can, but limit the damage, Julia."

"Oh, a challenge then. Fine by me!"

You can feel the tank throttling back slightly, but you're still going rather fast. Fortunately, tanks tend to rather noisy, and the roaring ragnite engine serves as enough warning for civilians to get out of the way. However, there's still the occasional sideswipe as your tank clips a few corners and bumpers.

You some bewildered Home Guard gaping at you as you pass, not quite sure what to make of the sight.

"We're almost up to the docks!" You yell to your squad. "Get ready for a fight!"

However, you were just staying that to get your squad ready and alert. You weren't really expecting that serious of a fight, since it was just one man on the run.

"Uh, Cap? Are those dock workers supposed to be armed?"

"What?"

You see that the fleeing spy has just barely beaten you to the dock. He's ditched the car and sprinting down one of the piers, waving frantically at a knot of around ten dock workers. From your position, you seem them start pulling weapons from the surrounding crates.

"Well shit."

not worth eating the cake if its poison or empty, at this stage, preparing defenses for an invasion, every bit of intel helps

As your squad leaps clear from the tank, it frees up room to allow Julia to work the turret. She parks it on the land side of the pier, essentially trapping the spies on it. Plus he has a perfect firing line straight down it. The dock workers, not realizing that their comrade's pursuers had a tank with them, hesitate at the sight.

"Imperial spies! You are surrounded and have no chance of escape! Lay down your arms and surrender, and you won't be hurt! I will only say this ONCE!" You yell down the pier.

On cue, you see two rifles clatter to the ground and the two remaining dock workers stand up with arms over their heads.

The runner raises his arms and slowly turns around, a glum look in his face. However, the moment he gets a good look at your face his eyes widen. Before you realize it, the runner has already bolted and dives off the side of the pier into the water.

"Don't worry, I got eyes on him." Aleksandr says, his rifle already tracking the runner. "He's not going anywhere."

Suddenly, he moment is ruined by a loud screeching sound. You turn to see several trucks pulling up. It looks like the Home Guard finally arrived.

"Ramirez, explain the situation to them." You say, handing him the stamped orders Colonel Lynch gave you.

"Roger that, sir." And Ramirez runs, quickly getting into a conversation with the lead Home Guard.

"Alek, what's the situation on the runner?" You ask, taking out your binoculars.

"That's the weird thing, sir. He's not headed for a boat or the coast. He's... he's just swimming farther out into the bay."

"Well, if the guy's got a suicide wish, he's got it. Maybe we can ask those Home Guard guys to pick him up."

You turn to see the Home Guard Captain you accosted earlier standing behind you.

"Captain Waring of the 9th Home Guard Platoon, at your service!" He says, crisply saluting.

"Uhhhh, Ramirez? What exactly did you say to him?" You ask, surprised at the complete 180 in his attitude.

"I just showed him the orders." Ramirez shrugs.

"Well, as long as you have the proper paperwork, I have no problem with any operations you perform here." Waring says, puffing his chest out like he's proud of that fact. "Though I do admit, your little stunt here did cause quite the scare. Why hasn't this "Colonel Lynch' informed me of this mission?"

"Maybe it just got lost in the confusion?" You say, wondering how he missed that pretty blatant sentence in the orders saying not to inform the Home Guard.

"Mmmm, yes, it seems like Pike is shirking his duties again."

"Hey, uhhh, if you don't mind, do you think you could get a boat out there to pick up that guy swimming out in the bay? He's an Imperial spy that needs to be brought to justice."

"Ah, just waiting to see who'd be the first one to spot that." Waring says, nodding furiously. He then turns and tells his men to start taking a few boats to intercept him.

"He's certainly... interesting." Sam frowns.

"Crazy is more like it."

"Uhhh, uhhh, sir, I think you need to see this." Alek says.

"Yeah yeah, I know, he's swimming further out into the bay, right? You told me that already."

"Sir, you REALLY need to see this."

"Fine." You turn around, wondering what could possibly be spooking Alek so much.

That's when you see the u-boat surfacing i the bay.

"Son of a bitch."

Some of us did. I didn't want to take any chances. But no, we needed even more prisoners.

a U-boat... A GOD DAMN U-BOAT!?

FIRE EVERYTHING!

UBoat? pfft, 1-2 HE or even AP to the hull and it wont be going nowhere
>>
>>24394538

failing that, just use the tank on the U-boat
>>

Depends on the gun we have on the tank. 90mm? No problem. I'm more than sure that U-Boat is in effect range too.
>>
>>24394682
75mm, actually. High velocity, though.

Oh yeah, and this Imp tech we're talking about, It's gonna be quite a bit beefier than a "standard" u-boat.
>>
>>24394711
We need a bigger gun for this tank.

No we need a tank destroy like the Hellcat.

Huh.

Okay. If this dude is, as you claim, not important, we've just traded a mook for the knowledge about a GODDAMN ENEMY SUBMARINE IN OUR HARBOUR.

It's a win-win.
>>
>>24394902
Let's hope the Albion navy is as good as they claim
>>
>>24394921
It isn't, since the U-boat is already here.
>>
>>24394935
That's okay, the Oseans have a group of volunteer civilian pilots, that fly shore patrols and shit. They sank a whale.
No seriously. During WWII in the United States, the Civil Air Patrol sank two U-Boats, and blew up a whale.
>>
>>24394902
Because we totally expected a sub would be popping out there. Just because unexpected stuff happens does not make your previous actions any less short sighted.
>>
>>24394935

From previous thread

>With their men overseas and their normally formidable fleet scattered on various posts,
>>

ummm

>>24394763

now we have sufficient reason and anger to both shoot the spy and blow up the submarine
>>
Oh btw, do we know which member of the Imperial royal is in charge of the naval assault on Albion? Any data on that dude and associated generals/admirals? Because it's a pretty ambitious project to assault one of the three main members of the enemy alliance that's gone on the offensive and pressing your own troops hard.
>>
>>24395035
im betting our fiance is on that sub
>>
>>24395035
Nope! Even if somebody knows, they're not going to tell a lowly merc like you that sort of stuff. Then again, you have (at least) one prisoner. So who knows...

Plus, I'm also amused at the level of debate going on over letting that guy run. I can't wait till I sink the Kitty Hawk.

>>
>>24395128
Because as long as Jager is still in love with Karla, and as long as Karla is still alive, we gain two benefits.
One: He's unavailable. This prevents waifuwars.
Two: Delicious emotional torment, that we can REJOICE in.
>>
>>24395139
Three: The best sex they've ever had when they finally get back together at the climax of the war
>>
>>24395057

Really, it's secret? Because I figured it'd be a propaganda thing for both sides: Empire would have a face to plaster on newsreels how OUR BRAVE TROOPS UNDER THE COMMAND OF PRINCE HANS WINKEL VON STRUMPFELMEYER ARE TAKING THE FIGHT TO THE DOGS OF ALBION while the Federation would have newsreels about THIS IS THE FACE OF THE ENEMY. PRINCE HANS WINKEL VON STRUMPFELMEYER IS A DEGENERATE SADIST WHO WILL PERSONALLY OVERSEE THE RAPE OF YOUR 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS. WILL YOU LET HIM RAPE YOUR DAUGHTERS? I THOUGHT SO. You know, makes it personal. Like in WWII how Rommel, Guderian, Patton and Zhukov were public figures.
>>
>>24395158
The war won't be the only thing climaxing...

Think of all the lewd things they can do together!
>>
>>24395186
It's politics, really. The Imperials are trying to keep the whole invasion thing a secret because they know Albion can wreck them if its navy gets its shit together.

Osea and Yuktobania are willfully ignoring all the obvious signs the Imps are up to something, because they're unwilling to lose Albion naval support. Certain factions within Albion also support them, mainly due to ALBION STRONK.
>>
Is this quest real?

OP, I love you.
>>
>>24395222

Figures. Plus, the whole "being able to surface a submarine right into an Albion harbour" thing would be extremely demoralizing if publicly known.

Which is why Albion intelligence might have to quietly execute those Home Guard witnesses to keep them from blabbering on the pub.
>>
>>24395222

BTW, where is Yuktobania on the map? Is it part of Europa? Or is it across the Atlantic, making it the America analogue of this war?
>>
>>24395274
The current revealed nations are:

Osea = France
Yuktobania = Germany
Ustio = Italy/Greece
Albion = Britain
>>
>>24395188
Yeah if they survive the war to be reunited, that first night I can guarantee they'll be up into the wee hours holding hands, and hugging, and crying on each other's shoulders.

They also have a military culture with heavy knightly influences, particularly in the oaths of fealty each soldier swears to the Emperor. Thus Karla's comments about how we're her love but not her Emperor, and that if he says we have to be foes, that's the way it is.
>>
>>24395573
>we're her love but not her Emperor
I think i have a solution for this, kill the emperor, and take his place, BAM, we're her emperor

Or, you know, find a way to get her to renounce her knightly oaths. Not saying it's easy but it is certainly possible.

Yes, what I'm saying is that you can try and make THE PALADIN FALL.

>>24395593
>>24395609
from what little I understand of this setting, this is plausible, ergo, our direct course of action
>>
>>24395593
They're an Autocracy, not Necromongers.
Although murdering the Emperor COULD give her an "out" if not swearing fealty to the next one.
>>
>>24395634
I have a solution for this as well, we make them necromongers

>>24395622
but if we were her emperor then she would be sworn to us with her love AND knightly oaths, do you have any idea how boner inducing that is?

You've got a point there.
>>
>>24395023
No boat can outrun a bullet.
>>
>>24395622
So we just have to put her in a situation where she has to choose between breaking her oaths or doing something so anathema to her nature that she would never do it. And we have to put her in this situation WITHOUT pulling a Gendo (doing things to get back the woman you love that she would never approve of).
>>
>>24395649
Do you REALLY want to knife fight a dude with Lord Marshall level hax?
...
Actually that sounds pretty awesome.
>>
>>24395692
clearly we must uncover imperial war crimes mid sword fight with her and force her to FACE THE TRUTH, her emperor is a jerk
>>
>>24395716
>Do you REALLY want to knife fight a dude with Lord Marshall level hax?
You don't?

>>24395661
>mfw i know who the chick in that picture is
>>
>>24395720

Oh please, real men fight with knives.
And really we just need photographic evidence we can, literally, throw in her face.
Or we could gamble our life on how much she loves us. Corner her, get the knife fight started, then just toss our knife and yell at her to do it. To kill us if her vow really is stronger than love.
>>
>>24395720
Now we just need to find some Imperial war crimes.
Preferably not against Darcsen, because committing war crimes against them seems to be Imps' national sport.
>>
>>24395795
Bruhl
They shot civies as they entered the town
>>
>>24395787
and if we fail the dice roll and she does kill us, then she can become the MC and we can play PTSD quest

wats the bet that during our romantic knife fight it will be revealed that she is Valkyr
>>
>>24395787
Or we can combine the two.
Corner her, get the knife fight started, then just toss our knife, throw in her face the evidence and ask if she's willing to kill us to support that cause.

A few individuals doing something fucked up doesn't reflect on the Emperor though. We need proof that the big man himself is a monster that isn't worthy of her loyalty.
>>
>>24395795
>seems to be the Imps' national sport
"Let's Shit on the Darcsens" is EVERYBODY'S national sport in Europa. VC is actually one of the few pieces of fiction with a WWII/WWII-esque setting that acknowledges just how disturbingly common anti-semitism (often violent anti-semitism, not the "stupid fucking kike get outta here" kind) was at the time.
>>
With Ace Combat elements being snuck into the Valkyria Chronicles setting in this quest, what are the odds that the Principality of Belka is around? Probably as a hardcore part of the Empire, full of knightly orders and extremist pro-Imperials. If the war ends with an Imperial loss, they might secede out of disgust and try to carry on the fight.

Maybe that's where Karla is from...

Yeah, we should totally embed a reporter with us. It'd be a great way to spread publicity, and we need it if we want to get approached for missions.
