You are a Magical Girl, and you're standing in your own personal vault. A vault made to house weapons that, in an RPG, would have really ridiculous stat points but hit the user equipping them with all sorts of horrible status effects. Weapons that you're pretty sure need to be constantly oiled with the blood of the innocent or the souls of the damned, that sort of thing.

Weapons that really have no business of being used, really, is what you're trying to get at here.

Even if they do look really flashy, what with being completely gold and everything. The shiny, blindingly-lustrous sort of gold that makes even real gold look fake. The sort of gold that drive Magical Girls completely insane, reducing them into bloodthirsty creatures, hallucinating about a crazed goddess in pink and gibbering about the Flesh of Fallen Angels.

. . .

It's all well and good that you have to collect all twenty of them, eh?

You're far from being the selfless paragon of Justice that Magical Girls are supposed to be, but you're in no hurry to see the next person you're in good terms with get reduced to a raving lunatic by wielding one of these around.

Better you than them.

...Ah, you could really go for a smoke right now.
>>
>>24375548

Anyway, you have four of these Golden Weapons in your possession.

The first Golden Weapon you acquired is the Desert Eagle. Pinky gave this to you personally, after helping you wake up from a Callidus' illusion during a protection assignment. It's gotten the most use out of you so far. It bears the number VII on its handle.

The second Golden Weapon you procured is Kirika Kure's Murasame, the former Eversor's former pride and joy. She cut off your arm with this blade, moments before you had her reduced to hamburger by Misaka. You've used this...just once, from what you remember, and with nearly disastrous results. It has the number XX on its hilt, and it's currently stored in the vault, on its rack. You don't like it every much.

The third Golden Weapon you won is Lance Kilgore's gauntlets - or bracelets, as they are now. He wasn't a Magical Girl, but it still turned him into something twisted, something craven, that you managed to put down after getting help from Tiny Pete. They transform into large, punchy things that have autocannons installed in each finger. You've used this just once, during a half-remembered training session with Kharn. You've also managed to talk to the soul of the Magical Girl seemingly residing in them, Kotarou Yuu. She seemed a nice enough girl. You have this in your inventory right now, along with the VII Golden Weapon.

The fourth Golden Weapon that you were given is Valnikov Kharn's chainaxes. They're huge, imposing, and really have that kind of intimidating air that matched that of their former owner. The axes themselves have a dirty sheen of dried blood on them, and the teeth look as though they're about to tear into flesh any second. From what you remember, they can fit together into one monstrously-huge battleaxe. They bear the number XV, and it's stored in this vault along with the XX Golden Weapon.

[1/2]
>>
>>24375556

. . .

You can't really deny the atmosphere that you get just by standing in the same room as both the XV and XX weapons. It's a dangerous sort of atmosphere, the sort that makes you watch your step and hold your breath for a moment before exhaling. A palpable killing intent, which, in the case of Kirika and Kharn, both had in copious amounts. But despite how the chainaxes dwarfed the katana, the former seems to be...jovial, friendly almost. Just like Kharn, it had the air of a person who absolutely loved murderous combat. Someone who enjoyed war and the bloody business that comes with it. Fitting, really, what with the previous owner having a hobby of collecting skulls.

The latter, though...well. You're not all that keen to even get involved with it.

Kirika Kure. What a fucking bitch. Seriously.

What do you do?

While I'm of a mind that Iori needs to be talked to and taken care of, we should NOT apologize for pushing her away or we'll just reopen that can of warms.

We can apologize for being tactless, but we already did that way back when. We just need to let her know we're back and that if she wants to talk, we're willing to listen but we have new responsibilities that demand our attention first.

Nothing more, nothing less.
>>
>>24375804
Don't give Decu any chances to push us into a corner or better yet, a bad end. We deal with her like a pesky, annoying animal. Grudgingly, but enough to avoid her starting stupid shit.

You decide to talk to Kotarou Yuu for a bit. You remember her from your training session with Kharn, and for someone who's obviously spent time using a Golden Weapon, she seemed to be quite the personable, stable sort. ...More stable than you or Kharn, at that. Definitely much more stable than Kirika was.

You take out the bracelets from your inventory and slip them on, one after the other. Even in the relative chill of the vault, they're skin-warm, as if you're putting them on after someone else had been wearing them all day.

...Now, how do you talk to her? You remember being able to, but only after having them transform into their...bulkier forms. You also had a chainaxe buried in your shoulder, right down to the bone, and were in danger of losing that shoulder and the arm connected to it at the time. You probably won't be able to replicate that situation at the moment without considerable effort, but--

+ Matsuda-san? Is that you? + You suddenly hear Kotarou Yuu's voice in your mind, shy and polite as always. + Ahah, that kind presence. I'd recognize it from anywhere. It really is you, isn't it? +

Huh. Well, there's a thing. You weren't sure if she'd recognize you at the moment, seeing as she met a Chiaki Matsuda that's slightly different than the one you are now.

+ Ah, I suppose that's reasonable, but a little forgetfulness like that, it doesn't really change a person. Matsuda-san is still Matsuda-san no matter what, I think. + She replies quickly and eagerly, which really makes it clear that the poor thing is starved for conversation. You shake your head slightly at this.

+ Um...s-so, did Matsuda-san just want to talk like this, or...would you like me to take you back in here for the moment? + Yuu says after a while. + I don't mind talking like this, but maybe Matsuda-san would prefer a face to talk to...? +

How do you respond?

Lets not do that, I am sure no one is under the illusion that we can get back together with Iori. (hopefully)

What I think we should do now is to make sure that Iori isn't getting into any destructive behaviour (i.e. getting in the relationships just to spite us, taking up smoking just to emulate us) and let her understand that while we would like to be back together it would be far better for both of us that we don't

After a moment's thought, you agree to take her up on her offer. Talking face to face would certainly be good at the moment, and...well, you want to learn more about dealing with the Golden Weapons from someone who isn't Kharn. It only strikes you now that you've literally learned nothing about them from the Russian, only coming away with a couple of hats, some new bruises, and an aide who's recovering from the entire experience in sick bay.

Well, she did help get your procedure done, but..

+ Oh, alright! Um, well, this'll just take a second-- + Yuu's voice seems to come from far away, and the vault around you flickers before suddenly disappearing into complete and utter darkness. But before disorientation at standing in the middle of nothing could take your senses, the lights are switched back on - and you find yourself standing in a field of thick, white snow. Not unlike the Siberian landscape you've left only hours before.

You hear a growling by your feet - or at least, snoring - and you look down to see a massive bear, lying on its back. It seems to be deep asleep, but the ugly bruise on its jaw makes you arrive to the conclusion that it's been knocked out by one single punch. Its tongue is even lolling out in that slack-jawed way that punch-drunk pugilists get after being put down.

"He'll be alright, Matsuda-san," Comes a voice behind you, and you turn to see the girl of the XI Golden Weapon standing in her strange, one-piece black dress with the thick, oversized hood covering most of her face. "At least, I remember that he was. Tried to maul someone else before thinking better of it and looking for fish instead." She giggles quietly, her shoulders shaking. "Silly old bear."

[1/2]
>>
>>24376296
Well clearly they'd be tailored.
>>
>>24376299

Huh. So she punched him out, did she? You nudge at the bear's paw with a foot. It's easily bigger than your entire face, and you don't see the bear having any particular trouble of crushing your skull with it.

"Mmm! With one punch!" She holds up a gloved fist, all exubrance. "Always with the one punch that I've practiced for ten thousand times!"

. . .Well. She's certainly some kind of Magical Girl. You're not sure if you know anyone else with her kind of dedication.

How do you begin talking to her? What do you ask first?

She pulls them out, she screams SKULLS, they scream with her and everyone gets along just fine

Whether she realized it wasn't actually her own mind screaming SKULLSKULLSKULLSKULLSBLOODBLOODBLOOD is another matter entirely...
>>
>>24376658
This must happen. BUT! We need to wear Kharn's hat so we can blame something.
>>
>>24376622

Huh. There was another password given to us after the whole Siberia arc, wasn't there? I think it was "REMOV". We should try that out the next opportunity we get.

Although it would be a bit of a downer to discover that the password to remove all passwords on the smartphone app was "REMOVE" minus the "E".

Putting the fact that the person you're talking to - who seems to be only a few inches taller than Misaka, really - could knock out a giant bear in one punch, Yuu actually seems like a normal kid, or at least as normal as Magical Girls go. Quite a refreshing thing, since you've met a lot of girls that, after contracting, seemed all too willing to adopt a new personality to come with their new lifestyle.

You tell her to walk with you as you talk, and she acquiesces all too readily, keeping in step with you as you trudge through the ankle-deep snow. The powdered ice crunching underneath your soles with every step, your breaths misting in the crisp, cool air.

You open the conversation by asking her what Officio she's from. This was going to come up eventually, so you might as well bring it up in a casual conversation like this, rather than waiting for an interrogation. This might also give you a clue as to just how spread out the Golden Weapons actually are, although you remember that Pinky warned you about a particular Magical Girl having five of the things in her collection already.

"...Officio?" Yuu replies after a moment, her black, amber-pinned eyes blinking at you in surprise. "O-oh, no, I didn't really belong in one. Not like the sort you're in, anyway."

Oh? If that's the case, how'd she become a Magical Girl?

"Through the usual way, of course! An Incubator found me, and asked me if I'd like to be one. He...he was really friendly, and explained everything to me, including what happens if I don't keep up with my Grief Seeds. He told me that...that he only wanted to see me reach my fullest potential, both physically and spiritually." Yuu seems to smile behind the oversized collar of her hood. "He...he also used a lot of big words that I didn't quite get, but overall he sounded like a really nice person who only wanted me to continue my training."

...That sounds like an Incubator, yeah.

[1/2]
>>
>>24376714
I was thinking of another two passwords: LANCE and STORY . You think they might work?
>>
>>24376789

"Mind, I was in the hospital then. I had horrible asthma, and it knocked me right out if I so much as run an entire lap...but after my contract, I felt like I could do anything." She grins. "And he even offered to send me a Grief Seed whenever I needed it, so I didn't need to interrupt my training with hunting Witches. But I declined and hunted Witches anyway, or at least, whenever I could find them. I'd like to think I did well enough on that front."

You change your mind, that doesn't sound like an Incubator at all. That sounds much too nice to be an Incubator. Not even Kyuubey's that altruistic.

"Really? Well, I wouldn't know, Matsuda-san. I didn't really do much, being a Magical Girl. The odd Witch, here and there, and training. Always training." A wistful tone overtakes her voice, as if she misses it sorely. And she probably does. "I managed to travel all the way to America, too, one time! And I challenged a lot of Magical Girls there!" She giggles. "Managed to punch out one who nearly killed me with a kitchen knife!"

A...kitchen knife, did she say?

What do you ask next?
>>
>>24376790

As you shift the conversation from her training - which sounds more like something from a battle manga than anything else - to the Golden Weapon that she herself is inhabiting, it's then that the mood seems to subtly shift. "I...I got the bracelets from...from a very pretty girl. She wore this dress with a lot of frills, and she had the loveliest smile, and...and..." You see her cheeks redden slightly. "...I think I fell in love with her at one point, too..."

You let your silence be a gentle signal for her to continue, and she does, but haltingly. "...Ah, it's embarrassing, but I don't really remember who she was. She had really long hair, though, as white as snow...does that help? I know you're trying to find who's spreading them around, I'm sorry I can't tell you any more..."

It's alright, you tell her. You know how it is, when your memory starts to become unreliable. Hardly her fault, and what little she's told you can probably help in some form or other. It does confirm that someone else other than Pinky is handing out the weapons, though...but who would do such a thing like that?

You file this question away for now, and ask her about Lance Kilgore. He doesn't seem to be her type at all - how'd Yuu get mixed up with him?

"Now, that, I remember." It's here that Yuu narrows her eyes, and a frosty tone eliminates what warmth there was in her voice. "He cheated! We were supposed to have a fair fight! I needed money to get back to Japan, so I challenged him, and bet my bracelets!" She growls in frustration at this, and a clump of snow hurtles skyward, kicked up by her upraised foot. "I made sure not to use magic at the time, too! But he found out, somehow, and..." Another irritated grunt issuing from her throat, and she clams up right then and there, pouting even though her lips are hidden.

A sensitive topic?

[1/2]

"...A bit," She murmurs after a moment. "I really can't get angry. I...got a bit too foolish, too daring. I knew it was a trap, somehow. I knew he was going to try something, but I went for it anyway." She shakes her head, before looking down at her gloved hands. "Didn't even get to land a punch before the first shot took my right arm, off the elbow. Next shot went took my legs away, the third..." She tapped her forehead. "Kilgore gave that to me personally, grinning like an idiot. Before he could shoot my soul gem to pieces, though, the Blessed Lady gave me a way out, and I took it."

A way out? Like...being here, in her own Golden Weapon?

"It's not so bad," Yuu says mildly, reaching down to scoop up some snow off the ground, patting it carefully into a ball. "It's a bit boring sometimes, but it can be worse."

How?

"I...I'm not exactly sure how." The girl seems to hesitate here. "But I know it can."

Well. At least you know now how Kilgore got the gauntlets.

...She's had a rough time, still, being alone for so long. You reach over and pat her on the head, gently, careful not to make it a condescending gesture. She squeaks at this, stopping right in her tracks, and looks up at you with wide eyes.

"That...w-what did you do just now, Matsuda-san...?"

You blink at this. You...you patted her on the head. That's what you did. Is...is that a bad thing to do? You didn't mean to be inappropriate, you just wanted to--

"O-oh, I see! Um, no, it's fine, I..." She reddens from behind her hood's absurdly-large collar, and she looks down, seemingly bashful about the entire situation. "I do believe I've been here for too long, I...I forgot what it was like, having someone else around and doing that to me. It felt nice." She looks up again. "Can...can you do that again? Just one more time, before you leave?"

...Well, you don't see the harm in it, so you shrug and oblige her. Yuu makes a happy sound at this, before reaching up with both hands to pull her hood back and down, revealing her own snow-white hair.

You wonder idly if this is yet another bad decision in the making, as you spend a few moments smoothing out the girl's hair with a hand, patting her like one would a cherished pet, while she herself made some very satisfied sounds.

"...Thank you," She says after the deed is done, in a pleased and breathless voice. She pulls her hood back up, her cheeks positively glowing, and you glance down at your patting hand, mulling over the potential consequences of what you've done.

Nah. It's...no. Yuu's a nice girl. She's nothing like that.

At the very least, you're safe in the knowledge that she hasn't read any of Midori's stuff.

[1/2]
>>
>>24378130

In any case, you think you've spent long enough with her for now. You'll have to get back and attend to something else, but you tell her that you'll visit her again as soon as you can.

"I look forward to it, Matsuda-san!" Yuu says cheerfully. "Ah, the way out is through there, just keep walking and you'll find yourself back where you came from!" She points to the path ahead of you. You nod at this, and make to set off - but before you do, you ask her about the Incubator she contracted with. Did he have a name, and what did he look like?

"O-oh, um, the Incubator who gave me a contract called himself the Seventh! He looks like a white cat with long, floppy ears and really cute red eyes, like a mascot...a-and he had this really cool red scarf that had a wind effect, even if it wasn't windy!"

...Huh. Sounds like an Incubator, all right. You thank her for this, and trudge on, leaving her behind.

"Matsuda-san!" You hear her call after you've made some headway, and you turn to look at her, puzzled - before receiving a thrown snowball right in the face.

. . .why that little--

After you scrape the snow away from your eyes - intent on returning fire - it's then that you realize that you're back in the vault. No more snowy forest, just the chill of the airconditioned room and the lustre of the two other Golden Weapons in their cases.

Silly kid. If she didn't get mixed up in this stupid Golden Weapon business, she'd have made a great Magical Girl.

You managed to get some information from her, at least, so it wasn't completely wasted time.

In any case, what do you do now?

Why the fuck do people keep assuming *We* fucked up? Iori is a possessive jealous bitch. Her insistence on us some how being in a relationship , and her bitchfit after getting a reality check is what's fucked up, not anything Chiaki did.

It's like the constant navelgazing and insistence on apologising to her. We have *nothing* to apologise for.

I hate dealing with Iori`s shit but we probably at least should call her to make sure she isn`t doing something retarded that might blow up in OUR face.

Iori had her chance to be likeable and lost It.
>>
>>24378321
I'm curious why she was screaming in the call with Kyoko.

>>
>>24378321
Nigga she's a little girl who has SEEN SOME SHIT like her best friend killin herself after gettin raped and then her almost gettin raped and then her other friends getting massacred

The fact that she isn't dealing with it particularly well doesn't make her a bitch.

We don't have anything to apologize for but we should still call her soon because she's probably having some kind of panic attack.
>>
>>24378321

While I agree on that, this is still MGNOIRQuest and if we at least don`t check on her via call, she might do something stupid and we will have to deal with it. We have to get to Sayaka anyway so I guess we can call Iori on our way there, even if Sayaka is within walking distance in the building.
>>
>>24378350

I figure she heard about our 'accident' in siberia.

Mami mentioned that she, sayaka and kyoko would take turns guarding her and if they found out, she'd find out rather quickly too.
>>
>>24378363

That's a bit extreme and unkind, even for Iori. She knows Kyouko is our friend since she was our babysitter of choice during the Kirika assignment. Iori was probably just insistent on getting a headsup when we got back to Japan.
>>
>>24378373

>She wanted us so bad she masturbated to us
Then that's her own goddamn problem. Being horny for someone does not oblige reciprocation. Not in the slightest.

>>24378533

Whatever the case is, this situation still bears some investigating. While Fabiola promised not to tell Iori about our arrival here, she found out about our arrival while Chiaki was sleeping off her pancake binge. While it's likely that Iori might have heard it from Fabiola telling her master about Chiaki's arrival, or from Mami (whom she is friends with), I'm suspicious that someone might be trying to re-open old wounds for potentially ominous purposes.
>>
>>24378601

You pull out your smartphone to check the time. From what you can tell, it hasn't really been that long since you stepped inside the vault - in fact, talking with Yuu didn't seem to take nearly as long as you thought it would. This confirms that time moves much more slowly when you're taken...well, wherever it is she took you for that conversation. You keep this nugget of convenient information to yourself, before noticing that you've received no less than thirty miscalls from a certain idol.

. . .

You shake your head at this, before stuffing your smartphone back into your inventory. Not right now. Not when there are much more important things to do.

Reaching up, you take the chainaxes from their display racks, trying your best to ignore the sudden burst of adrenalin as your fingers come in contact with the handles. Kharn was painfully accurate in her description - as intimidating as they looked, touching them actually made you WANT to use them, to just attack an entire Officio on your lonesome just having the things equipped and nothing else. They wanted you to fight with odds stacked against you, because the more enemies there are, the more skulls you can offer to the Blood--

You spit out a curse as you shove Gorefather into your inventory, right after Gorechild. The chainaxes nearly had you going there for a moment - good thing you managed to get them in before you decided to make yourself retirement material. Not that it felt bad or anything, but with everything that's happened so far, you're not in the mood at the moment.

This left the Murasame, of course. The XX Weapon. Kirika's all but made herself known like Yuu did with the bracelets - as such, you're not taking any chances, here. You grasp it by the sheathe, careful not to touch its handle, and drop it into your inventory, not caring if it clattered against the chainaxes or whatever on the way. It could get lost there for all you care.

Your business done, you slide your passcard at the required slot, and the blast doors slide open to let you out of the vault. Kyoko, true to her word, is waiting for you outside, trying Kharn's Ushanka on for size.

"Oh, finished?" Kyoko says as she turns to look at you, looking utterly ridiculous with the ushanka on. She seems very pleased with it, however, even after the fact that it still smells like bear. And vodka. It smells like a bear drunk on vodka. "I'm not supposed to ask what you just did there, so I won't. Anyway, where do you wanna go? I'll drive, of course."

...Before that, you have to say that she seems really happy with the ushanka.

"Ahaha, well, it's your first gift for me, so it's kinda special! Besides, I've wanted one of these for the longest time!"

...Huh. Right. Well. She should take care of it.

"YOu don't have to tell me twice!"

Superdumb.
She called us hours ago. Refusing to tell anyone about fucking mansion going down or lives lost is beyond retarded.

I think she was just worried. Anything else could've been told to Mami
>>
>>24379893
Well, if it's REALLY important I guess we can reschedule the meeting with Sayaka

Honestly we're stuck between a rock and a hard place here. We need to talk with Sayaka, from what Kyoko's been hinting at, and we need to talk with Iori, to avoid a disaster.
Going to one while calling the other is the only way to try to get out of it intact.

"Ah, sure, I can do that." Kyoko grins as the both of you make your way back to the elevator, to return to the building lobby. "Lemme just call ahead and say you're coming over, yeah? Probably have her get coffee on the boil for us so it's hot when we get there."

You nod silently at this, and let your red-haired Eversor companion call up and chat loudly with her life partner in peace. Besides mulling over what Yuu had told you - about the Seventh Incubator, as well as the mysterious girls she'd met during her relatively short career - you can't help but think back on Iori.

...You didn't part ways with her before Siberia all that well, that you can remember. And while you're the last person to admit it, for some time, you...felt something, towards the girl. But was it really attraction, or just plain infatuation? Idols had that effect on people, after all. Mass-marketed cute personalities designed to incite protectiveness and affection, that sort of thing. Your first impression of her wasn't all that great, either, when she yelled at you for smelling like liquor the first time you met. Asking you to take a shower during guard duty, of all things.

. . .

Then again, she did start to look at you properly after that. One of the few people, besides Mami Tomoe, who could set eyes on you and not look like they're surveying a pile of garbage. One of the few people to say your name without it sounding like a curse.

For Christ's sake, what were you thinking? Were you REALLY expecting it to work? Between the both of you, a Magical Girl living on borrowed time, and her, a popular idol?

Your life isn't a third-rate shoujo novel, for fuck's sake.

As you finally get into the company car - the back seat feeling much emptier without Midori with you - it's then that you contemplate finally calling Iori. You don't even remember pulling your phone out of your inventory, but it's in your hand, now, as Kyoko begins to drive you back towards her apartment.

"Haha, I woke Sayaka up. She's kinda in a bad mood, but she's making the coffee now." Kyoko grins sheepishly at you from the rear view mirror. "Waffles, too!"

Nice. Hopefully she cuts back on the poison for your share.

"Aw, come on, Murderface!"

What do you do?

This is important. Even though we gotta focus on work stuff, we should still make time for Iori, if nothing else just cause we did kinda dick her over by suddenly not talking to her then fucking off to Siberia.
