Predator Quest: Episode 4

Previously on Predator Quest:
You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to embark on a hunt on the world of Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known to humans.

The previous quest is archived here:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24348485/

You are currently engaged in stealth on the outer edge of the solar system. After a gruelling battle with Weyland forces, you are surrounded by the wreckage of a Colonial Marines frigate.

The forward half of the frigate is barely intact, and there still signs of ferocious fire-fights happening aboard the ship.

You have spoofed a status message to the Weyland forces around Pandora, and have not yet intercepted a response.

Your ship took a few hits to the rear ablative armor, but is otherwise in good shape. Your power reserves are once again full, thanks to the resiliency of your power plant.

Now, you must decide your next course of action.

A. Destroy what's left of the frigate with your plasma bore cannon.
B. Wait until the battle aboard subsides, then attempt to board it.
C. Leave the frigate to its fate and head to the gas giant before more Weyland forces arrive.
>>
>>24370313
>B. Wait until the battle aboard subsides, then attempt to board it.

This or A, I'm a bit interested in what they were doing - but we can always trash the ship and move on.

Lets go in screw waiting if we wait too long hard shells may end up killing everyone in the know. Which means less precious info to salvage.

Can do.

Need a second, though.
>>
>>24370499
Crap meant that as Other

its always good to make sure to have the other choice up to allow different plans though.
>>
>>24370512
Just don't want any more humans to die who might actually know something. At least once we find out what they know.
>>
>>24370547
Aren't there only synthetics on the ship?
>>
>>24370611
There is know guarantee they would know some of the real juicy info. Best go in while its hot due to the fighting which makes excellent distractions.
>>
>>24370547
okay.
>>Board the ship immediately.

You scan the wreckage, and identify a suitable spot to dock your ship. You align your ship with the frigate's cross section and fire the boarding umbilical. The umbilical hooks to the bulkhead with a solid thud. You are now connected.

You put on your rebreather over your hunting mask, and proceed.

The firefight has died down somewhat, though you are still unsure of the winner.

You run through the umbilical and breach the bulkhead. You find yourself in some sort of storage compartment, with crates stacked everywhere. The room seems to be pressurized.

To your left you hear sporadic gunfire.

You engage your cloak.

Do you:

A: Examine the crates around this storage room
B. Head towards the gunfire
C. Try to make your way to the bridge

>>24370611
We have no idea. We heard intercepted some transmissions last session and some anons were using meta knowledge to say "Oh, Weyland is definitely running a deniable breeding op using androids." Our character currently has no fucking clue.
>>
>>24370683
A lets see what if they are hiding any goodies. If not we can at least get some info about what is going on from what is in the crates.

>heard intercepted

>>
>>24370710
You engage your scout mask's superior scanners and take a moment to sweep the room.

Most of the crates are still sealed. Most contain the usual supplies - rations, weapons, and munitions. There is one crate far in the corner. It has been opened and re-sealed by welding.

You detect a very faint thermal signature inside, even from this distance, it's hard to make the outline. No wonder you could not sense it from your ship.

You hear the chatter of some heavy weapon to your left.

Do you:

A. Investigate the crate
B. Investigate the gunfire

>>A. Check the Crate

You examine the suspicious crate in detail.

It's a cubic crate somewhat taller than you and just as wide.

It is different from the others in its construction. The alloy used is far thicker and heavier than the rest. Perhaps this was used to store volatile explosives.

You examine the door. It seems to be welded shut from the inside. You are sure you can open it easily with your plasma caster, but doing so will alert everyone nearby to your presence. Worse - it may ruin the contents.

You can also try to pry it open with your reflex disc. The weld does not look that strong, and you think you can open it with some effort.

The gunfire is growing louder and closer.

Do you:

A. Fire a plasma bolt at it from your plasma caster.
B. Try to cut through the welding with your reflex disc
C. Leave it for now.

>>
>>24371082
>>B. Try to cut through the welding with your reflex disc

You leap aboard the crate, de-cloak, and power up your reflex disc with a hum. The cutting field enhancing an already mono-molecular edge slices through the weld.

You carefully guide the disc along the edge of the door all the way around. It takes a few minutes, but at last the door is loose. You carefully pry it loose to swing it open.

You jump down and look inside.

You see the corpse of a recently deceased male colonial marine. There is a gaping hole in his chest.

Suddenly, something flashes out of the corner of your eye. You feel something pounce towards you from the dark depth of the crate. Your mask attempts to track it, but at such close ranges, it's not able to resolve triangulation. You have moments to act.

>>B. Bring up your claws to shield your face (Medium)

You bring up your claws in a defensive stance, and brace for the impact. To your surprise, however, it seems your adversary missed its pounce and narrowly jumps past your shoulder.

You turn quickly and see that it's a broodling of the hard-meat - a small but ferocious chest burster. It hisses at you and leaps towards you again. This time, you effortlessly snatch it out of the air and twist its neck. It shudders and dies.

You clip the corpse to your trophy belt. You turn again to the dead marine. He has a data slate in his right hand and a torch in his right.

As you proceed to pick it up, you hear a massive explosion down the hall. You quickly re-engage your cloak and see six or seven humanoids enter the storage room performing a fighting retreat against a horde of black beasts.

Do you:

>>B. Jump on top of the crate and observe

You quickly snatch the data slate and stuff it in your belt pouch. You grab the top edge of the crate and silently pull yourself up. You turn to the conflict and observe.

You are impressed by the humanoid fireteam's coordination. They cover each other flawlessly and relentlessly hold off the hard-meat incursion. They weave and dodge around the crates, and through this whole time, they are silent. Perhaps they communicate in the different manner.

Just as you think they're thinning the horde, one of the air vents above you pops open and several black-beasts drop down from the above.

One lands square on a humanoid and effortlessly tears him in two and milky white liquids splash everywhere. But in his death throes, the humanoid triggers an explosive device and kills himself, his comrade and three of the enemy.

The remaining humanoids seem to be holding there ground. Then, from the other end of the room, you something unbelievable. A black-beast (with a blue tint) the size of a runner drone explodes from another air vent and extends two pairs of translucent wings.

It swoops down through the air and decapitates a humanoid with a swing of its tail. It again takes to the air and turns towards you!

Do you:

A. Break cloak and shoot it down with the plasma caster. (DC: Easy)
B. Jump down from the crate and break line of sight.
C. Try to snipe it out of the air with your spear gun (without breaking cloak). (DC: hard)

You align your plasma bore cannon with the wreckage and open fire. Each shot cores through hull to vaporize large sections of the ship. One of your shots must have triggered an ammunition storage, causing secondary explosions to ripple across the hull.

The frigate is no more. You fly another pass around the wreckage and use your plasma turrets to shoot still living specimens floating in space.

Satisfied with the results, you engage fold-space and head for the dark side of the gas giant.

WSSV Delores: Thank you for your assistance. Our engine went critical and we have wounded everywhere. We need as much of your personnel aboard as you can spare. Please, we need help.

WSSV Delores: Yes, thank you. May we know if there are any other USMC forces in the vicinity to aid us? We have many wounded here.

USS Excella: Negative, Delores. Just us I'm afraid, but we'll do the best we can.

WSSV Delores: That is excellent. Thank you for your help. We are ready to receive your marines.

The transcript ends here.

You then sift though the images. They seem to be taken very recently, of interior of the frigate.

They all show a variety of Pandoran wildlife being subjected to autopsies and dissections.

There is nothing else of value left on the data slate.

You return to the cockpit.

You slowly creep out from behind the gas giant, and see Fey'lenn in full.

There are at least six Weyland capital ships around orbit.

Do you:

A. Try to fly closer and examine them in greater detail
B. Remain at current range and increase power to your sensors.

Well then.

I was gonna say B, but that appears unnecessary.

>>B. Remain at current range and increase power to your sensors.

You maintain your distance and begin your scan. Of the six ships, four have military-grade energy emissions and the remaining two seem to be logistics or research vessels.

You also notice numerous automated recon buoys patrolling around the moon, each constantly emitting sensor pings.

While you are confident you won't be able to be detected by one such ping, taking several at the same time might give them enough information to triangulate your position.

You will need to think of an approach.

Do you:

A. Try to formulate a distraction somehow and slip in during the chaos.
B. Try to brute force your way in by dashing for the planet at maximum speed. They have no ships capable of catching you when you are running at top speed.
C. Try to engage stealth and slowly drift your way past them, and react if something goes wrong.

A. We need to figure a way to bypass their careful watch. Merely drifting in could cause as many problems as revealing ourselves at top speed. Would the trophies be large enough to catch the ping and turn their attention to what may be left of the Frigate?
>>
>>24372781
>>C. Try to engage stealth and slowly drift your way past them, and react if something goes wrong.

You engage your stealth systems and cut your engines to low power. You begin to drift your way towards the moon.

You notice a burst in traffic, as several small craft reaches orbit from the planet heading towards the out-skirts of the system. One of the larger Weyland destroyers also change course to follow them.

They are most likely off to investigate the frigate wreckage.

You maintain your current speed and heading.

You are now inside Fey'lenn's gravity well, and the density of Weyland drones increases drastically.

A. Continue past the drones and use your piloting skills to dodge the sensor drones (DC: Medium)
B. Stay at your current location and look for alternatives.
C. De-cloak and make a dash for the moon's surface. (DC: Easy)

>>A. Continue past the drones and use your piloting skills to dodge them (critical failure)

At first, you are able to dodge them easily. But as the pings get more and more numerous, you find it to be more and more difficult.

Suddenly, your entire ship shudders as an explosion rocks your right engine pylon. You immediately realize that some of the sensors double as magnetic mines!

The explosion drops you out of cloak, and you immediately throttle up the engine. Your left engine response immediately to give you a burst of speed, but your right engine is unresponsive.

You detect the launch of several missiles in the distance, and they are closing on you fast.

With only one engine, it will be difficult for you to dodge the drones/mines.

Do you:

A. Attempt to turn back and try to engage foldspace. (DC: Medium-hard).
B. Open fire with your plasma turrets and shoot down as many drones as you can. (DC: Medium)
C.Try a risky short-range fold space jump to go past the drones, but coming out of fold in atmosphere will likely drain all your power. (DC: Hard)

You engage your plasma turrets in point-defence mode. Weyland drones around you explode one by one as they are shot down, but the volley of missiles behind you closes fast.

Worse - another cloud of drones are released from one of the ships in the distance and head towards you.

You need to make a decision.

A: Decrease power from your engines and route them to your plasma turrets to increase their firing rate.
B. Decrease power from your plasma turrets and overcharge your engine to reach the atmosphere before the missiles do.

You route power from the turrets to your engine and receive an immediate boost to your speed.

You gun your lone engine to its limit and scream towards the planet.

Your heat shield flares white-hot as it slams into the atmosphere. Your entry angle is not optimal and your speed is far too fast for your approach vector, but your ship takes the beating with gusto.

Behind you, the missiles detonate as Fey'lenn's thick atmosphere engulfs them in flames.

Let's roll D20 to see how we do:

You strain your muscles to keep the ship in control, when suddenly, a burst of cannon-fire erupts from the surface. Soon, more guns open fire upon you.

You do your best to weave through the shots, but with only one engine operational, several slugs find their mark.

Your ship shudders and groans as slugs eat away at your ablative armor. You try to line up your plasma bore cannon with one of the ground-side guns, but find it inoperational. A stream of lucky hits must have knocked it out.

You barely make it past the killing field.

You notice several contacts closing in you. They're atmospheric fighters. You need to think fast.

A. Try to land your ship in the dense forest up ahead.
B. Try to crash into a body of water and submerge your ship.
C. Try to lead them away from the ground batteries and dogfight them.

>>B. Try to crash into a body of water and submerge your ship

You aim towards a nearby lake, and run a quick scan to verify its depth. You find it to be quite deep.

You aim your ship towards the lake and cut the throttle at the last second. You shut off the already strained power plant, and crash into the water like a falling rock.

The visual displays become distorted and warped as you sink towards the bottom.

You see several projectiles streak past you, as the fighters rake the surface with their auto-cannons, but you are safe for now.

Do you:

A. Try to find a suitable place on the lake floor to land your ship.
B. Activate your aquatic engines and stay near the surface to observe.
C. Activate your primary engine to pop up from the surface and ambush the fighters.

>>
>>24373717

You spot a plateau well camouflaged by some sort of kelp, and decide it would make for a good landing spot.

You engage your aquatic engines and gently set your ship down. Normally, your ship's newest stealth systems will allow you to cloak even underwater, but you have no more reserve energy left in your power plant and must wait for it to recharge. You run an internal diagnostic on your ship and find your main plasma bore cannon and the right engine to be in-operational.

Most of your abdominal ablative armor has been stripped clean by the auto-cannon fire.

But aside from that, everything looks to be fine.

Do you:

A. Wait inside for a while and let the ship's power plant recharge, just in case you need to move quickly
B. Exit the ship and assess the damage from the outside.

>>
>>24373828

You remain at your seat and watch the energy reserves slowly climb up as your fusion generators do their work.

You take some time to look around. You notice many aquatic creatures swimming back and forth around you, many of which you recognize.

From a distance, you notice a large, aquatic fish-like beast barrelling towards you. It has a large, hammer-shaped head and rows upon rows of sharp teeth. It has a long fin on its back and a razor sharp tail.

It latches itself on to the nose of your ship and proceed to slam its tail against the ship's exterior repeatedly.

Aside from being disconcerted by the sound and vibrations, you're quite sure it's not capable of actually doing any damage.

Do you:

A. Continue waiting and leave it to do its thing.
B. Exit your ship and get rid of it, perhaps netting you a trophy.
>>
>>24373895
A) while we're no coward, we've got bigger concerns on our mind and aquatic combat isn't really our area of expertise.

B. We need a trophy to prove our story.
