Looking back on it, it seems pretty clear that the letter Maud showed us and said that our parents wrote was a forgery.

However, while she wanted to make us miserable, I still can't really picture her as being hateful enough to honestly try to get us disowned. Like fucking with our heads sure, but deliberately sabotaging things between our parents and us?

I can't really picture her going that far while still making the choice she did with the Trident.

Here's my interpretation. She blocked our letters, which led us to not following our parents instructions, which led to them getting pissed off enough to not show up when we were hurt and disowning us after the unforgivable curse.

Maud knew of their intentions to disown since the incident with Bergle and was actually trying to set up a way for us to live together, since it partially her fault that we were being disowned and she was trying to take responsibility. The letter this morning was real.

But she was still pissed off at us enough to lord it over heads when we discovered her ploy.

You thank everyone for finding it and turn your attention to Maud whilst the others talk amongst themselves.

Maud nervously bites her lip as she looks at you approach.

“Everything okay?” you ask

Maud smiles and looks to Olivia who gives a smile which tells her everything is okay. You rest a hand on Maud’s shoulder and ask everyone to come with you to the castle. The whole group gets moving and heads into the castle.

Lessons are still taking place as you all walk past the classrooms filled with students. You can’t help but feel like you’ve amassed a small army, a gathering of friends (and likewise) that have marked your stay at the castle.

When you arrive at Professor Trib’s classroom you can see her entire class is walking in the opposite direction to you. You shuffle in with your friends and find her and the headmaster, along with Nigel sitting at the front of the class in wait.

“Is what this boy says true?” says the Headmaster.

You watch something like hope flash across Trib’s horrid face.

You remember the letter you had pocketed in your robe. The one from your parents telling you they no longer wished to see you again. You take it out of your robe and place it on the table.

“Maud, would you please write the following words ‘the spaglot likes to laugh a lot in camelot’”

Maud does as she is told and takes a quill and some parchment from the desk and sees to scratching away the Headmaster’s words.

It is exactly the same handwriting as the letter.

You sigh, thankful at the very least that the whole darn mystery of it is over, despite the fact that Bergle’s motivations still remain a mystery. A part of you hopes to forget about it and never dwell on it again, another wants to see the mystery solved to its true conclusion.
You mull it over as you leave Maud with the Headmaster whilst go back to the Room of Requirement and get your things, moving it all back to your dorm, thankful everyone is still in class.
You lay on your bed for a moment with the intention of having a quick nap, instead however you find yourself falling into a deep sleep which seems like the first real one you’ve had since the whole mess began.
Several hours later you are woken by Olivia and called downstairs into dorm’s main floor. There, standing by the entrance, is Professor Trib, but not as you have known her.
A beautiful middle-aged woman with strawberry blonde hair smiles at you with tears fallings past her cheeks.

You’ve uncovered a mystery, battled a professor and fought a giant rock golemn and lived to tell the tale!

You can’t help but grin to yourself, whatever waits for you you’ll be ready for it. And you won’t be alone. Not anymore.
