Ladies and gents, you're autoimmune and arthritis plagued Doctor is back, and I welcome you to Demi Quest! Previous threads are found here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Alex%20Hanger

Last time we had a go at sparring with the other pilots, and Pitcher proved she is a veritable demon in close combat. Once done, we checked in with 098, and he explained we need to start taking missions from Retter. We immediately presented ourselves (along with Melon) and the commander explained how missions work.

Currently three missions are available. Picking herbs for the busy head pharmacist. Pulling an extra patrol for the lazy Pitcher. Investigating a small group of Ape Abominations at a possible mine for Retter. Melon largely seems to be willing to follow your lead. Which do you chose?
>>
>>24341540

A fine day in this man's Empire.

As stated last thread, we should not shy away from harsh asignments, as that will lead to faster advancement. Broach the subject of the Abominations at the Mine to Melon, and proceed with that option if she agrees.
>>
>>24341540
Welcome back, Doc.

I believe we were going to confer with our partner before we picked a mission. If Melon is fine with whatever, then I say we pick the mine clearing mission.
>>
>>24341540
>Picking herbs
in a huge meck sniper suit yes we will do that, cause we would be shit in a cave.
>>
>>24341621
>Not smoking the abominations out of the cave, then picking them off at the cave mouth from the treeline.

Do you even sniper?
>>
>>24341540
Cave it up
>>
>>24341540
What rebellion shall we crush today?
(also, testing how tripcodes work, never done that before)

And I agree with this>>24341582
>>
>>24341621

We have Melon to draw them out, if necessary.
>>
>>24341703
Ah ok, so it really IS as simple as I though. Taking the trip I wanted then.

I read over the part where melon would follow our lead, so I think we'll just go for herbs then. Patrol seems boring and cave isn't very good for our skillset.
>>
>>24341791

Will that not look like we are cowed by our previous mauling? It seems to be taking the easy job is the worst thing we could do, really. At the very least the patrol, as that does not make it seem we are using Imperator to pick flowers.
>>
>>24341827
Hmm, true. I think we do deserve some rest after the mauling, but I accept your point about the patrol. Changing vote to patrol then.
>>
>>24341540
Let's do the patrol. It's not quite as sad as picking herbs, without putting us into a situation of close quarters fighting we're not designed for.
>>
>>24341945

Changing vote to patrol to spare the indignity of flower picking with mecha.
>>
It seems like things are going in favor of the patrol? That right?
>>
>>24342021

Agreed.
>>
>>24342021
Sure, let's patrol.

I really would like to do the mine mission, but Ace and Melon really aren't equipped for it. Leave it for one of the many melee killing machines on base.
>>
>>24342045
>>24342053
"I don't think we are equipped for the mine mission, seems more of a close quarters thing." You say, taking the patrol folder. It's nice and simple, Pitcher had a patrol, but she is not really feeling up to it, so she wants to pay someone to handle it for her. A hundred Imperial, nice and easy. You take it and head out, Retter returning to his book. "Lemme see." Melon says, taking the folder and looking through it.

"Three hour patrol, watching the road leading from the base to our main water supply, a nearby lake. Lake has a constant infantry guard, and a radio for calling in problems, but it's generally our job to watch the path." She explains. You and she head to the hangar and load up.

"So what's the idea? How do we split the patrol?" She asks.
>>
>>24342208

" You lead, I follow. We take a standard path to and from the lake. Has your CQC ability improved with all this sparring? I am afraid I am still a lost cause up close."
>>

"You lead, I follow." You say. "We take a standard path to and from the lake." She takes the lead down the dirt pathway. It's just wide enough for a Demi, and the canopy rarely breaks. "So, has your CQC ability improved with all this sparring? I am afraid I am still a lost cause up close." You ask, keeping an eye out.

"Well, I think so. I'm a bit quicker, atleast. I'm going to stick from learning from the twins, I don't have the size or muscle to learn the wrestling stuff Pitcher does." She explains.

I need a Mind roll, 3 dice, for your perception.

You patrol down the road, slowly and carefully, keeping an eye out. "...Imperator, I... think there might be something out there. I'm getting something on my motion-sensor." Cheshire reports. "It's... I dunno, something is wrong. I'm picking up movement, but not a direction. What should we do?" She asks, stopping and raising her rifle.

What do?
>>
>>24342848

" Halt, prepare weapons, and scan the forest."

We should run our own sensor sweep as well, if possible.
>>
We should have gone collecting herbs. We could have combined them with blue mushrooms to make potions.
>>
>>24342869
"Prepare your weapons, and scan the forest." You order, lighting up your radar. It buzzes and flickers, and thousands of little blips show up. You can hear 098 messing with controls as he tries to make the system stop spazzing out.

"I don't like this, Imperator, my system is not working worth a damn." Cheshire says, sweeping her rifle around. You look carefully in the forest, rifle swinging up over your shoulder.

"Two little Imperial puppets." A purring, breathy female voice whispers over your radio. "I didn't expect to catch two little ones out here alone."

Your radar is still spazzing out. What do?
>>

You spot something rocket up into the sky from the right. Your focus on it and.. it's some sort of red glass arrow, with a large, round head. It sails into the sky above you, and you get ready to dodge, when it explodes. It rains little red needles down, piercing your armor and forcing you down, covering your head and cockpit. Cheshire manages better, staying on her feet and covering herself with one arm.

"Oooh, still alive after my opener? The infantry at the lake didn't fair so well." The voice muses. Cheshire spins around and you manage to swing your rifle up. A Demi Sized female form, complete with breasts, but not anatomically correct, stands there. It's body is muscled and organic, with a red glass X glowing on it's chest, reaching up to the shoulders and down to each side of the pelvis. An organic black bow is mounted ontop of it's wrist, with three red glass spikes curving up from it's back, one on each shoulder blade, and one slightly lower, in the middle of it's back. Its face is featureless, save for two glowing red eyes, and long black tendrils come from the top and back of it's head, hanging down to about shoulder level.

"Would you like to play?" It asks, one hand going over it's shoulder and touching one of the glass spikes, pulling up and drawing a glass arrow from within it to nock on the bow.

I will be rolling for Cheshire offscreen, so I need 4 dice for your dodge.

"I get to hunt and play, take you and all your camp. I already killed your men at the lake, so your water source is no longer safe. I do so look forward to seeing what you do now." A cold, vicious giggle sends chills down your back as you speed along. You meet up with Pitcher and Volunteer, who help escort you back. You're helped out of your cockpit, avoiding the enormous arrow, and trying to ignore the stabbing pain in your chest.

"I need you to tell me exactly what you saw." Retter orders, striding towards you in his Demi, the cockpit open so he can speak to you face to face.

"Our scanners were jammed as we were going down the path towards the lake, we were just scanning the treeline when it attacked us with some sort of splitting arrow launched into the air." You begin. "It showered smaller needles down into our Demi. After that, a Demi sized enemy approached with a bow, and fired an arrow which split into two in the air." You gingerly put a hand on your chest. "One pierced my cockpit as Cheshire called for backup, and upon hearing your orders we withdrew to the base." You say, and he nods.

"I would place whatever it was as some sort of Abomination-Demi hybrid. It had organic weapons and structure, but moved and fought more like a Demi than one of the animalistic beasts we have faced so far." You describe the enemy, then hesitate. "It claimed to have killed the men at the water source. I think the water there is no longer safe." You admit, frowning. He nods.

"We believe you encountered a very rare breed of Abomination, one created to try and counter Demi. I would ask you report to the infirmary for tests and a checkup while we go out to look for it." He orders, and starts out the hangar with Volunteer and Pitcher.

098 looks highly displeased with the damage to Imperator, and 511, Melon's Engineer, looks no more pleased with the needles stuck in the arm and head. Melon helps you out as you head to the infirmary.

It takes a couple hours, which you mostly spend in the infirmary being tended to and getting blood tests and asked dozens of questions, but the three finally return. The main problem is that Retter and Volunteer are carrying Pitcher, which has a spear-like arrow run through the cockpit and all the way out the back. They carry the Demi to the hangar, where you lose sight of them.

What do you wish to do? You are technically free to leave the infirmary now.

You get a move on to the hangar, Cheshire close at your side as you move. Rock and Roll join you as you move in, and you get to watch the medical crew pulling Pitcher out of the ruined cockpit along with her Engineer. The Engineer, a young female, is largely unharmed, but Pitcher is missing most of her left arm and is swearing loudly as the team lowers her onto a stretcher. You head to speak with Volunteer and Retter as the medics carry her out.

"We were ambushed. The enemy caught us with the same exploding arrow they got you with, then began firing those massive arrows." Retter indicates the cockpit. "When Pitcher went down we evacuated." He looks angry, shaking his head. "It... she, is an ambush and sniping specialist, and has a full book of tricks. I'm putting up a special mission for any willing takers." He says, and Melon snaps up.

"We'll take it, sir." She says, saluting. You quickly (though somewhat uncertainly) salute as well. He gives you both a hard look and then nods, as the twins both slug Melon in a different shoulder. She apologizes quietly as Retter and Volunteer head to the office, presumably to try to write up some sort of helpful report.

"I'm sorry, Ace. I didn't mean to do that without your say... I just can't let her get away with this." She explains, looking downwards.

What say/do? You likely have a short while before the mission is properly ready.

>>
>>24344729
Ok, serious planning time. This bitch utterly wrecked a 3 man team of decently experienced pilots who had information of her ambush tactics (kinda).

We are beyond fucked unless we think up a smart plan. We need to think of a way to draw her out into a field of fire so we can take her out. If possible, see if the twins want to assist, they could go as bait (because they're melee) and Melon can be the obvious support lieing in the wings to come help, incase the archer chick looks for a reverse ambush. Hopefully she won't look for us perched in a tree a few hundred metres away from wherever we're drawing her to, so we can take the kill shot.

"I know, and you're right, that creature will pay for this. But if we're going to do this right, I need you to have a clear head, can you promise me that?" You ask, and she nods, snapping up a salute. The curtains are around Cheshire and Imperator, and you can hear the loud buzzing coming from beyond as you call for 098. He ducks out from behind it, wielding a massive tool with a spinning disk. "We have a mission. How soon can the repair be done?" You ask, and he looks shocked, recoiling. He looks back and forth between you and the curtain, sputtering slightly, then sighs, slumping.

He rubs her face with the hand not wielding a massive buzzsaw, and signs. "Three hours. Just... go get some rest or something. Pick up the file." He ducks back under the curtain and you can hear him kick something before getting back to work. Melon returns to you. "Five Five One says an hour for us. You?"

"Three. Let's go get the report." You say, and she follows. You report to Retter and he gives you paperwork as he finishes it.

Hunting the Huntress
A-Rank
100 Imperial base, 1,000 Imperial bounty, Battle Data for Engineer usage.
Target, hereby known as Huntress, has been recorded with scanner jamming abilities, along with several different weapon abilities including a wide-area explosive, a dual splitting arrow, a powerful arrow, and a shotgun arrow. Huntress has been recorded to be skilled with ambush abilities, a high accuracy rating, and the ability to disappear when not directly looked at.
Extreme caution is advised, as a two man team is all that can be sparred. The remaining Demi will be on base, serving as a defense force.
Accepted by Hunter-Killer team Imperator and Cheshire.

Time to try to make up a plan, gents. You know the area is heavily wooded, with a large lake that may include fortified buildings that can be used for cover. Ontop of that you, of course, have all the information in the briefing.
>>
>>24345106

We still should ask what's up with an Abomination talking, over radio no less.

>>
>>24345106
Well shit.

I still think our best bet is to lure her out of cover and put a round through her chest. Alternatively, we could use our shotguns as the main weapon for this venture. Setup a obvious snipers nest in one of the armoured buildings, try and lure her into the building for close combat, and drop the building ontop of her with explosives (If we can get our hands on some)

So, any thoughts on my plan?

Some flaws I can spot with it are:

1. She just shoots her massive arrows through the walls from afar and laughs at us

which can potentially be solved by counter sniping, but doesn't really give us an advantage in the engagement

2. She just hits somewhere else when she smells a trap

3. We can't get out of there while she's still in it

And last but not least

3. She kills us inside the building before we can clear it and drop it on her

Anyone else got some ideas?

I agree the buildings are the best option. What did you think about the infantry detachment? Does not seem our opponent is selective in her targets, and I believe we can draw her out with such a force.

What would make it look like a natural troop movement?

Oh, I know!

We can make it look like they're going to grab the corpses of their fellows. If she doesn't take the bait, we at least get to bury our dead.

Have any of the Abominations we encountered before now been sentient? Oh god, what if the abominations are actually leading the barbarians through summoner representatives?

You could also try to make it look like you are trying to retake the outpost. Which does need to be done, but would probably be safer once Huntress is dead.

Well, I suggested we make it look like they seek to establish a new outpost, or as Doctor said, retake the old one. I am willing to bet she will jump right into our trap.

The way to take out a hunter is to make them think they are hunting a worthy prey, while they themselves are being hunted. To that end Melon will have to be bait.

I only will resort to this if the infantry do not tempt her. But, if it comes to it, it shall be so.

We have a duty to the Empire and our comrades to end this threat, no matter the cost.

So do we have anything resembling a plan?

Looks like some variation on using an Infantry detachment as bait, and striking as the Huntress attacks them.
