I've also been hiatus due to personal issues for a bit and run at a time that's slightly slow for the board. He was able to use a spell that most wizards would at least require a wand for by just waving his hand and without speaking. I recall Tonks talking about how her mother could do something similar but Tonks herself had difficulty with it.
To my knowledge casting magic without speaking is possible but I'd assume doing so makes it more difficult. Doing it without speaking and without a wand? Probably an order of magnitude more difficult.
He also was able to sense latent magic ability that we didn't know we had simply by looking at us for a few seconds.

But then again the headmaster of Hogwarts is assumed to be all knowing and wise so I dont think either thing is overly surprising.

On first impression he appears to be the serious and calculating type compared to the kooky silly old man thing that both Tooteledge and Dumbledore had. Future father figure for Millie?

We don't need to be all powerful and naturally better at everyone at everything or have some super special talent of our own (I know we rolled that we were good at hexes, but a mild bonus to the roll isn't quite the same thing). It's not as impressive to succeed when you're playing on a higher level playing field than the rest of the setting. Especially if you don't earn it.

That's not to say characters that have these traits can't be interesting or well done, but Millie's turning out that way without the extra window dressing.

The question about being the 'chosen one' is who's doing the choosing.
Considering that Millicent was killed and brought back in a weird dark magic ritual, and since then when upset she's able to cast destructive and downright dark spells... A pattern begins to emerge.
I think it'd be okay to give Millicent a 'destiny' so long as it's something we wish reject and fight against, and can succeed in doing so, of course.

The thought that comes to mind with that is this: duels are (theoretically) formal and one-on-one.
Though enough practice with non-lethal curses really would be to our benefit, as far as building in a likelihood to use petrify and such instead.

I've found what I plot out takes a while to get through because things take a lot of time to happen at their own pace. Unexpected things happen that I can't account for so I have a rough estimate for how long it should take.

I intend to skip a lot of time once the main plot is over, if only so I can take my time with the second year.
