been seeing a lot of these lately, but haven't participated yet. What exactly is being discussed here?
I really like Bionicle, but after the Bohrok thing it gets too contrived imo. The original adventure game playing as the chronicler (can't remember his bloody name...) was brilliant.
>>
>>24258093
Mainly we talk about our favourite and least favourite parts of the storyline.
We're /tg/ relevant because

souns nice, though it seems my knowledge of only the first arc will be madly insufficient to properly participate here. Matoran RPG seems pretty damn awesome.
>>

A lot of people in the threads only followed up to about 2002 or 2003, because they either lost interest due to getting older or due to the sudden tone shift to sci-fi, so I wouldn't worry

Don't worry, it's all saved on my computer.
The system will be skill-based and not class/level based, and will use the d20 as the main dice.
There will be 6 elements, and every element have 3 skills. In every skill, after you put x points into him, you will gain to choose a new ability. So if you put x points in earth (awareness) you could choose to get a low light vision or improved hearing. After y points in a element, you get a new ability- if you put y points in water, you could see better underwater.
>in character creation, you choose your element, which will give you bonus to the element's skills, and a unique ability.you can choose your equipment based on your element, and if you have the right skills, you can start with an animal are magical weapons.
>the elements and skills:
>fire
-melee
-blacksmithing
-leadership
>water
-swimming and sailing
-range
-sneaking
>wind
-performance
-ride
- jump
>ice

>>
>Find big ol box of Bionicle bits

>the basics of fighting:
>you attack
you roll range/melee/unarmed +weapon bonus
the target can block or dodge- block is melee/unarmed + weapon bonus, and dodge is (jump+awarness+run)\2.
>you hit
The damge is range/melee/unarmed +weapon bonus. the target armor lower the score.
if the armor is to high, nothing happend.
> you damage the target
you lower the target HP. if you remove 1\2 of the target HP in one attack, you knocked his mask off. if the target reach 0 HP and is still awake, he is now crippled/knocked out
>mental and elemental attacks
these attacks are like normal attacks, only you roll the element or the power score (if mental) aginst the target element or oppesing element (if you use fire attack, you roll aginst fire or ice) or the opposing Principle- for every element, there is a Principle (water is purety, stone is creation, ice is peace, fire is courage, wind is faith, and earth is posperity). the effect change from attack to attack
>in the end of a fight/skill test/when the GM want, you will get exp, and you could put those point in any skill you want. for every level, the price is 2level-1 (so level 1 cost 1, 2 cost 3....).
there are no coins in mata nui (as far as i know). if you want to buy something, you have to trade somthing else for it.
Finished skill trees: melee, ride, swim and sail, run and climb, ice craft, and engineering
>>
>>24258503
Levels 18-20 of every skill are the elemental level, where you get ability every level, but only matorans of the right elements (only ta-matorans can have 18 levels in melee) can reach them.

>>24258503

And how exactly would masks work, or hasn't that been made yet?
>>
Rolled 9

>>24258979
It's a matoran rpg. Mask powers are for npc only (so no)
>>
>>24259072
Hmm, that always kinda made me wonder. matorans really can't use the mask's powers right? Only the toa?
That's good to know, but then what exactly is the function of the mask to the matoran? And a system for it would be nice if we need Toa bro's or perhaps a corrupted/mindcontrolled toa as an enemy.
>>
>>24259272
There will be mask powers and toas npc's, but it will be added later (still doing the skills). Matorans use their masks as life support- if one don't have a mask on for too long, they will enter coma or die
>>
>>24258138
Wargame guy here, I probably won't have anything posted for a while (work and stuff), but that matoran RPG is looking good.
>>
>>24259272
As >>24259312 said, they go into a coma and eventually die if they don't wear a mask.

Toa aren't the only beings that can use mask powers. Turaga can use lesser versions of the mask powers they had as toa. Makuta (species) also all wear kanohi which they can use. Some other beings, like some skakdi and unique beings (like Axonn and Brutaka) can also use mask powers.
>>
>>24258221

>>
>>24259552
Let me have my insanities!
I know they changed all the names due to the whole legal trouble of trying to copyright actual words.
>>
I'm pissed off at how little the Toa Inika and Mahri resemble their matoran forms.

>Matoran Jaller - Bright red and yellow, Tahu mask
>Toa Jaller - Dull red, some gold armour, ugly mask

>Matoran Hahli - Pale blue and deep blue, Hahli mask
>Toa Hahli - Dark blue, some silver armour, mask with a big moustache

>Matoran Nuparu - Black, grey feet, orange Onua mask
>Toa Nuparu - All black, weird mask with spike mohawk

>Matoran Kongu - Bright green and turqoise, Lewa mask
>Toa Kongu - Green, weird lop sided grimacing mask

>Matoran Hewki - Brown and tan, Pohatu mask
>Toa Hewki - Dark shiny grey and yellow, probably the second least ugly mask of the Inika

Matoro was bearable. His colour scheme was roughly the same, and his mask wasn't that ugly.
>>
>>24259613
They had the same masks as the toa, which means you can't market GLORIOUS NEW MERCHANDISE.
>>
>>24259613
So, knowing that Matoro sacrificed himself and saved everyone and Jaller (who was leading the team) got captured and enslaved (along with the rest of the team), despite his achievements as a matoran:

Who's better Matoro or Jaller?
>>
>>24259664
Jaller and Jala are different people.
Jala is the best.
>>
>>24259664
Matoran Jaller > Matoran Matoro
Toa Matoro > Toa Jaller

Seriously all Jaller did as a toa was flail around a bit on Voya Nui then spint his whole time in Mahri Nui bitching and whining about being under water.

I don't like how the quality of the mask powers steadily got lower

At first mask powers were sweet but simple. As the series went on, they became either very lazy or very obscure/complicated.

Like, 2006 introduced the mask of flight even though there was already a mask of levitation.

And there's all that complex stuff like 'mask of repulsion' and 'mask of rebounding' and all these new fangled things
>>
anyway, a little update on the rpg:
range is the "mage" skill- at low level, it's just archery, but at higher level, when you get the Kanoka disks, that work like one-use spells. blacksmithing is used to make discs (and all other elemental items) and "refile" their power. there are some examples for discs here: http://bionicle.wikia.com/wiki/Kanoka
but i will make more
>>
i personally don't see anything wrong with the storyline, aside from the very end being rushed so they could start HF (there were going to be Baterra sets, and Mata Nui was going to go to Bota Magna to find the Great Beings and how to stop Teridax, and the planet would have dinosaurs)
of course, it's entirely possible that the reason i don't have the same issues with post 2003 is that i only discovered BIONICLE during the Mask of Light arc

>First half of 2003 - Fighting a group of elite bohrok called the bohrok-kal
>Second half of 2003 - Makuta makes a come back. Fighting the sons of Makuta, the rahkshi, and searching for the toa of light
>>
>>24267210
wasn't mata nui like, an island? So a moon crashed onto it?
>>
>>24267344
Mata Nui was secretly a giant robot. And the red star was his jetpack.
Oh yes, and magic is just programming.
>>
>>24267344
Mata Nui was the name of the island, and his face WAS THE ISLAND. Makuta hijacked his body and sent the Mask of Life to Bara Magna(he was on Aqua Magna), where there was another robot body for him to use.
>>
>>24267344
There's two Mata Nuis: the island 2001 - 2003 took place on, and the Great Spirit the matoran worship, who they named the island after.

As it turns out, Mata Nui is not a spirit, but a giant robot created by the Great Beings to explore space. Most of the Matoran Universe is inside him. The Mata Nui island was covering his face after he crash landed on a water planet, because it was part of his camaflouge system.

At the end of 2008 the toa woke up Mata Nui, but he got kicked out of his body by Makuta (Teridax) who then took it over. Mata Nui got expelled to another planet.

At the end of the storyline Mata Nui takes over a different giant robot and fights Makuta, still in Mata Nui's original body. Mata Nui defeats giant robot Makuta by pulling a moon into his head with gravity beams, killing the BBEG for good and putting an end to the storyline proper.
>>
>>24267314
/tg/ doesn't like Metru Nui? Weird.
>>
>>24267267
2001 - Island of Mata Nui, Toa now call the Toa Mata had to collect the masks and battle Makuta.
2002 - After the battle with Makuta, Makuta awakens the Bohrak Swarms to invade Mata Nui and remove everything on the island. Toa had to collect all 48 kinds of Krana and then descend to the Bohrak's lair to fight the Bahrag Queens to stop the swarm. After the battle the Toa fall into Energized Protodermis and turn into the Toa Nuva.
2003 - Bohrak Kal awaken and steal the Toa's Elemental Powers in order to reawaken the Bahrag. Toa stop them and the Mask of Light is found. Makuta sends out his sons, the Rahkshi, to take the Mask of Light before the 7th Toa.
Takua becomes the 7th toa and Makuta is defeated (again)
>>
>>24267369
>Magic was just programming
Not strictly true.
The powers possessed by most of the Bionicles are definetely magic or mystical in nature. Elemental powers aren't programming.

A lot of phenomena and foreshadowing was explained as programming, but no one ever said "actually Toa only have powers because of the robotic elemental motherboard in their kanohi."
>>
>>24267409
Ah, ok.
I must agree with >>24267083 then, I liked the tiki stuff more

What other islands should be on the surface of the planet if we are going to say that Mata Nui the robogod is not actually under the island of Mata Nui and nobody goes into the underdark?
>>
>>24287173
The Mata Nui robogod stuff was present from the beginning, really. It's implied in the flash game.
I was always cool with that, so long as it remained in the background.

That said: what other islands were there? The wiki is impossible to follow.
>>
>>24287475
There was Metru Nui, which was the 'brain'.
Uh... Voya Nui which apparently floats about inside the robot or something, Mahri Nui which is part of VN. Then there's um... that place where the original toa team shows up that's like the central core of the giant robot and after that we aren't on islands anymore.

I, too, am okay with robogod. But I'd prefer to have the series stay tiki tiki. And if Mata Nui wakes up and gets up, I'd like to think that he'd give plenty of warning and probably remake the island that was destroyed by his awakening because Mata Nui is a bro as has already been established.
>>
>>24276140
This, it kinda destroys that special 'feeling' the original line invokes because it's taken as a part of the whole 'saga' instead of a standalone setting.
>>
>>24287669

Voya Nui is "above" Karda Nui, which is Mata Nui's heart.

Mata Nui woke up and was immediately kicked out of the universe by Makuta, who then got off Aqua Magna, the planet the robot crash-landed on way back when he was put to sleep.

Mata Nui, whose soul was trapped in the Mask of Life, was flung across the outside-the-robot universe and landed on Bara Magna, formerly part of Spherus Magna. The Bara Magna story year was basically "we Dark Sun now", with Mata Nui adopting Toa form, doing some gladiator shit, and eventually getting hold of one of the Great Beings' discarded bodies.

Makuta, in Mata Nui's old body, comes to Bara Magna to finish everything. Mata Nui, in a damaged Great Being body, fights him. Makuta almost wins, and then has the back of his head sheared off by one of Bara Magna's moons.

The inhabitants of the Mata Nui interior come out of the wreck and make new lives on Bara Magna. Mata Nui's Great Being body gives out, and he retreats into the Mask of Life, then goes dormant, telling the Toa that they're where they belong now, his job is done, and it's time for him to let them live their own lives.
>>
>>24289192
Why couldn't they just live peacefully on Mata-Nui island ;_; ?
>>
>>24287475
Metru Nui: Highest population of Matoran, built over the CPU of Mata Nui.
Voya Nui: A piece of an unnamed southern continent that broke off and drifted to the surface.
Artidax: Volcanic hellhole island containing the prison of the first leader of the Makuta, Miserix.
Stelt: Home of the species of Krekka and Sidorak.
Xia: Home of Roodaka's species, the Vortixx. It has a sapient mountain that eats people, and the Vortixx climb it as a rite of manhood IIRC.
Atarkha: Paradise land, named after it's craftsman-king.
Karzhani: Shithole dystopia, named after its really bad craftsman-king. Was destroyed.
Zakaz: Home of the Piraka's species, the Skakdi. Mostly desert.
Odina: Headquarters of the Dark Hunters.
Nynrah: Home of the master craftsmatorans, the Nynrah Ghosts.
Karda Nui: The "heart" of Mata Nui, big place deep underground. If he is up and active, it's pretty much a perpetual lightning storm.
Daxia: HQ of the Order of Mata Nui,
Destral: HQ of the Brotherhood of Makuta.
Visorak: Land where the Visorak come from, duh.
Tren Krom's Island: Home of resident lovecraftian abomination, Tren Krom.
The Pit: Big jail where the Order of Mata Nui keeps bad guys.
Keetongu's Island: Island where Keetongu lives, obviously.

Because the Mata Nui robot that generates it was broken. Besides, a single island wouldn't have enough room for all the dudes everywhere.
>>
>>24289288
But why couldn't we forget the shitty gladiator line and just have Mata-nui remain as some un-bodied spirit which brought peace and prosperity? ;_;
>>
>>24289258

Mata Nui island is gone. It was a rock formation over the face of Mata Nui after he crashed down in the Great Cataclysm when Makuta Teridax put him to sleep.

After the Toa Nuva went back to Metru Nui, they wound up actually having to go back to Mata Nui and awaken the Bohrok. The Bohrok hive is within the boundaries of the robot itself, rather than in the island over the face. The purpose of the Bohrok was as a safeguard against Mata Nui getting embedded in stuff, like the crust of a planet. They had to purge everything on the now-evacuated Mata Nui and turn it into barren earth, then loosen that up so Mata Nui could awaken.

The island of Mata Nui was not supposed to exist, in the Great Beings' design. It formed by accident, when Mata Nui crashed into the planet and leaked energized protodermis all over his face, giving it the bizarre biomes and rich life it had.

The island has been destroyed entirely. It no longer exists.
>>
>>24289380
I know that, what I meant to say was that the whole Bara magna stuff was stupid as fuck. It would've been much better if Mata nui was just awakened and brought peace throughout the island.
>>
>>24289430

But then Makuta doesn't get to "win".
>>
>>24289461
How did he win currently? By destroying the big MN? That's quite spiteful really, and surprisingly in character.
>>
>>24289487
He "won" by succeeding in his plan, and taking control over his body. It didn't matter though because he ended up dying before he could use it to conquer other worlds like he planned.
>>
>>24289487

He won by taking over the body entirely. Mata Nui's spirit was shot into the Mask of Life and ejected from the body completely. Makuta took control. That was his plan, and it succeeded perfectly.

The only flaw was a failure to plan for what would happen AFTER the plan.
>>
I have to admit, having the Makuta actually win was pretty interesting.

>>
>>24289998
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNx-zQDXRY4
>>
>>24289998

Well, it's like I said earlier: Makuta Teridax took over Mata Nui's body, booted Mata Nui out in the Mask of Life. The Mask fell on Bara Magna, and Mata Nui tapped into its power to give himself a toa-like body.

This was after Teridax (the same Makuta we've all known since BIONICLE started) killed the entire Brotherhood of Makuta shortly before his ascension, leaving himself as the only Makuta remaining, to ensure nobody would challenge his rule. With complete dominion of the interior of the robot -- and thus complete dominion of the Matoran universe, though not the universe outside the Matoran universe -- he took off from the surface of Aqua Magna to test its limits, and realized that the Mask of Life hadn't just fucked off to nowhere, so he had to track it down and finally kill Mata Nui.

A bunch of online serials involved various Toa groups trying to stop Makuta, with no success. How can you strike down a malevolent god at full power? Makuta only beat Mata Nui through a 100,000 year long plan that slowly sapped his power without him realizing it, then finally dropping him into a coma in a single swift coup.

On Bara Magna, Mata Nui found the Glatorian and the Agori, other creations of the Great Beings. Unlike the Matoran, these life-forms were mostly organic. The Agori are Matoran equivalents, sort of; villagers on the enormous desert planet that is Bara Magna, after Spherus Magna's destruction and the Great Beings' disappearance.

Because resources are scarce but nobody wants to waste them on all-out war, villages handle disputes by having Glatorian (basically Toa, but more morally grey) represent them in single combat. Duels are typically until one yields, rather than to the death. Glatorian are well-paid for their services.

Mata Nui and several Glatorian fought to survive on Bara Magna for a while, and hunt down a way for Mata Nui to get back to his original body.
>>
>>24290384

They managed to find a prototype of Mata Nui's body, which had, unbeknownst to anyone, been scattered in enormous parts across the landscape, as big funky-shaped structures and stuff. Uniting all the villages, Mata Nui managed to put the robot back together and take control of it.

Just in time for Makuta to show up. They fought hand-to-hand, and Makuta won, but before he could strike the final blow, one of Bara Magna's moons ripped the back off of the head of the Makuta-controlled robot, and with it the control center beneath Metru Nui. Makuta was finally well and truly killed.

Mata Nui went dormant, but not before channeling the Mask of Life's power to turn Bara Magna's wasteland into a verdant paradise.

That's really the conclusion of the plot, and the line. There've been some other stories on BIONICLEStory.com, but they're just side stories with new character, expanded universe stuff on the new Bara Magna.

Guy who made the rewrite of the canon here:
My plan was that all the canon islands would be on the surface of Aqua Magna, except:
>Metru Nui, which would be an island in a huge underground sea/lake in a large cavern, converted into a temple-city to Mata Nui by Matoran who wanted to escape the harsh surface world
>Karda Nui, similar to Metru Nui but with more extreme terrain and stuff like the Codrex

Bara Magna and Bota Magna would have been very large continents, far away from the rest of the islands.
>>
>>24295193
Great Beings were retards
No it's literally canon, they made a fuckton of terrible choices

They wanted to:
1. Make a giant robot
2. Make an artificial world and populate it with beings of their own creation, to see if it would work

Then a Great Being said "why not do both at the same time?"

Hence the Matoran Universe
>>
>>24289261
I'm extremely confused about The Pit. I swear it was never explained properly.

Was The Pit on the Southern Continent, and got blasted up out of the Matoran Universe and onto Aqua Magna along with Voya Nui?

Or was it always on the ocean bed of Aqua Magna? Inwhich case Botar's teleportation ability is fucking insane if he was capable of teleporting from the Matoran Universe, in space, to another planet, and then back again.
>>
>>24296073
All the more reason to rewrite canon, in my opinion. If you like the idea that the Creators were very incompetent, then that's the kind of story you like and that is fine.
But it's not the kind of story that appeals to me.
>>
>>24296146
The pit was a jail that collapsed and flood. It's located under Voya Nui. Aqua magna was the planet which the matoran universe was on, apart from the land masses above mata nui's body, the entire planet was a single sea.

Also, the kanohi Olmak was able to teleport you anywhere, including other dimensions.
>>
>>24296583
I know this. My question is, was it always on Aqua Magna, or did it exit the Matoran Universe along with Voya Nui?

Also Botar does not where a Kanohi Olmak. His teleportation is racial.
>>
>>24296721
I think the pit remained on aqua magna until the planets rejoined, but it collapsed onto the planet during the cataclysm

And Botars species could teleport anywhere in the universe, even places they had not been before.

Seriously, what was up with the Toa Nuva masks?
And the weird rubbery material they were made out of?

I pretty much bought Onua Nuva and then cannibalised it for parts to improve the original - used the armour, kept the claws and the mask.

Which reminds me, why were there so few masks?
I'd have considered buying some of those mask packs if they were more than just recoloured versions of the Toa and Turaga masks.

If I were to run a Bionicle campaign, I'd probably make up a bunch more. Maybe some with weaker powers for the Matoran to use. They make nice MacGuffins for adventuring.

In the cannon all matoran masks were powerless. Also I'd recommend checking the wiki if you want some more ideas for masks.

Suggestions:

Toa Hordika

Sidorak's species (Stelt upper-class)

Krekka's species (Stelt worker class)

Keetongu

Generic 'titan' species, for characters like Axonn and Brutaka and Dark Hunters, who all seem to be fairly large

General rules for aquatic/amphibious Bionicle, ala Barraki, Ehlek's species, Nocturn's species

Rahkshi? Might not be intelligent enough to be players

Visorak? They were rahi but highly intelligent: they had their own language and each sub-species were good at certain things (grunt work, leadership, etc.)

Glatorian (species): Quite a lot of the glatorian are implied to be members of their own species, which are like larger, stronger agori, meaning that glatorian isn't a job title alone

No you didn't.

Toa Hordika could be argued to be their own species, but fair enough you listed toa

While Krekka and Sidorak's species haven't been named they are official and confirmed as intelligent.

Keetongu rahi are highly intelligent, likely to a point of (near-) matoran level intelligence.

Ehlek is confirmed to belong to a large species which is aquatic (or maybe amphibious, can't really remember). Then there's aquatic characters affected by water borne mutagen, but fair enough if you didn't list that seeing as it's not a true species

Rahkshi are shown to be pretty damn intelligent

Visorak are sapient, just aggressive

Glatorian are a species.

And we both forgot Botar's species (confirmed to be a species, more than one member seen) and turaga.

>>24299710
>Only one Keetongu
There is only one left by the time of the Metru Nui storyline, but there was a species. Statting one up wouldn't hurt, as their playability would depend on when a GM is setting a Bionicle campaign.

>Only one of Sidorak and Krekka's species
Only two named characters. Confirmed as species and multiple appear in character's backstories and the online/book stories.

Awesome dude, looking forward to it.

Are you statting up enemies aswell? I need some rahi to throw bamboo disks at.
>>
>>24299944
Well, I did made some enemy rahi and other creatures (I can't tell what, cause it will be a spoiler, but nothing after the bohrok kal) and some weapons, but nothing that I can show yet
>>
>>24299772
I listed the Glatorian races, you got me on sidorak, for Keetongu I guess it depends on which timeline you play in so before the Visorak invasion, Rahkshi are just kraana in suits of armor, yo got me on Botar, and I don't see how anyone could play as a Turaga.
>>
>>24300261
A turaga doesn't just have to be the village elder. He's the experienced warrior who's fought coutlless battles before or the returning hero who still has fight left in him.Although he may be as physically weak as a matoran he controls his element and has at least 1 mask.
>>
>>24300261
>Glatorian races
There are two meanings of Glatorian:
>The profession
>The species

Agori, skrall, zesk, vorox and in rare cases bone hunters can be glatorian by profession, but most glatorian belong to an actual glatorian species: all the 2009 cannister sets other than the two skrall, the vorox and Mata Nui are members of the glatorian species.

Turaga wouldn't be that disadvantaged compared to matoran. They're slower and maybe weaker, but they have minor elemental powers, noble mask powers and years of experience from their times as toa. Basically what >>24300343 said.
>>
>>24296073
>2. Make an artificial world and populate it with beings of their own creation, to see if it would work

Wait, the occupants of the matoran universe were intended to be created? I thought that when the Mata Nui robot crashed into the planet, resulting Protodermis tidal waves covered him, thus forming biomechanical islands, vegetation, and creatures/inhabitants?
>>
>>24301323
The matoran are (compared to mata nui) nanomachines that run his body.
>>
>>24298442
the pakari is probably the most overused mask among depictions of matoran and rahi. it is not unique to onua, unfortunately. including the same eye color atleast makes him accurate/recognizable

cool MOC still
>>
>>24301323
The Matoran Universe is inside Mata Nui. It's a small world consisting of several island archipelagos, a few individual islands and two large continents. Many of the inhabitants were created and put there by the Great Beings during Mata Nui's construction, while others (such as the Makuta) were created by Mata Nui himself after he woke, and some in turn were then created by species in the Matoran Universe (all rahi are created by the Brotherhood of Makuta).

The island Mata Nui is Mata Nui's camaflouge system. When he lies down on a planet to oberve it, and island or large mountain or other geographical feature is generated to cover his face. When he crash landed, the camaflouge system worked, but damage to Mata Nui meant that energised protodermis leaked onto the island. This caused the varying landscape and flora, and *some* rahi. However, all the turaga, matoran and the vast majority of rahi living on the island of Mata Nui got there by evacuating Mata Nui's body and setting up on the island.

Keep in mind that most inhabitants of the Matoran Universe didn't know they were living in a giant robot until the end of the series.
>>
>>24301443
The rahi were made by the makuta.
>>
>>24301484
Unless you count some organic sea life which seems to be native to Aqua Magna, such as the life sucking squid and other animals in the Barraki's armies.

Technically they're not rahi but they were considered rahi by characters in 2007 because they wouldn't know of anything animal-y which wasn't a rahi.
>>
>>24301540
I thought Mata Nui was created to explore and observe the galaxy?
>>
>>24302119
Yes, but he was a dual experiment.

The first purpose of the experiment was to explore and observe the universe.

The other was the Great Being's attempt to see if they could create a working world, which they decided to incorporate into the giant robot as his inner-workings, with the inhabitants of said world maintaining him.

The Matoran Universe is inside Mata Nui. All the islands are inside him, except Mata Nui which is his camaflouge system, and Voya Nui which is a part of the Southern Continent that broke out of his chest when he crashed.

he meant the individual characters
to my understanding, "toa ignika" was a toa incarnation of the mask of life, and toa mata nui was mata nui's spirit in a toa's body that happened to also wear the mask of life?
>>
>>24311973
They're sorta the same body.

Basically, imagine a brain. The brain has no body, and thus makes a body to reside in. Then his brain gets taken out of his body, and gets possessed by demons. The demon-brain builds a new body to put himself in. Are those two dudes the same?

The matorans were the best beings in the bionicle universe. They fight against mind controlled giant animals (just look at the size if a rahi vs the size of a matoran) swarm of elemental monsters that can also fly, take controll over your body and can kill you in one hit, even without their powers, and survived things like the infected kohlii balls. And the best thing? They won. Without any toa. They tamed the birds and the crabs. They made the METAL BOXORS. Dammit, seven matoran Saved the toa mata! And they don't even have mask power, or effective elemental powers.
They are the heroes of bionicle. And they get so little from Lego.
Sad, isn't it?

Hnng I wish Lego had done what they did with 2001/2002 and release two or three matoran of every element, instead of onl yone and occasionally another in a titan set.

Metru Nui was meant to be matoran central, and we only got six sets.

Mahri Nui was an all time low. Only four matoran sized set and only two of those were actually matoran. True, there were two matoran in the kahzarni set, but they're not exactly easy to obtain.

I wish in 2008 they had atleast released matoran for the Mistika rather than just the Phantoka.

I'm considering buying a bunch of Metru Nui matoran bodies and a few masks so I can make some matoran. I have plenty of Bohrok legs and those little grey legs which a lot of sets use so hopefully I'll be able to make some matoran.

Pity there's a lack of unusual colours for those matoran bodies. I know you can get silver ones in addition to the six basic colours, but it would be cool if there were colours like gold, purple and orange for the creation of more unusual elements (psionics, gravity, plasma, etc.)
>>

Technically speaking a Toa of Magnetism has appeared in set form. Toa Jovan is a toa of magnetism, and his set is made by combing Nuparu and Hewki (2006). He became the turaga of the part of the Southern Continent which would become Voya Nui, but he died in the Great Cataclysm.

Also all the matoran in 2009 are light matoran or light matoran corrupted into shadow matoran. Bionmicle just got lazy with their characters apparently.

And Toa Krakua, a toa of sound, has an official set, but it was created by a fan for a competition so it can't exactly be built.
>>
>>24318618
Then it's not exactly an official set, is it?
Obviously I didn't know about Jovan, but I stopped following Bionicle in a serious way after the Hordika thing. The only way I knew what the story was doing was because I kept getting the comics with the Lego Magazine.

so did lego ever have a justification for why the matoran of metru nui, voya nui, mahri nui, karda nui, etc had different builds? they went to a pretty big extent when the tohunga got rebuilt into their new forms, but i don't recall ever seeing justification for why the legions of other matoran had different bodies.
>>
>>24319044
The matoran of metru nui were the "true matoran" in a sense. The matoran of mata nui were mutated by being in the pods, the matoran of voya nui had been badly rebuilt by Karzhani, the matoran of mahri nui were mutated by the mutagen of the pit. I'm not sure about karda nui. It might be due to them being av-matoran, but I don't know.
>>
>>24319044
Yes, yes they did. The Metru Nui build is supposedly the original default shape. However, robots break. So they get sent to the repair shop.
Unfortunately, the man running the repair shop couldn't fix his glued-together fingers, so the repair shop became known as hell because no one who goes there ever comes back.
Of course, they DO eventually leave, but they are horribly disfigured, aka the Voya and Mahri Nui builds.
Karda Nui: no fucking clue, maybe the Light matoran just were made differently.
>>
>>24319044
True matoran are those who appear on Metru Nui. Presumabely most matoran around the universe appear like that.

The original Mata Nui (2001 and 2002) matoran appeared like that because the Makuta forced them into poorly constructed stasis pods, which made their bodies shrink.

The 2003 matoran were, as you said, the tohunga matoran rebuilt with pieces of bohrok.

The 2006 matoran had been damaged in the distant past, and shoddily repaired by Kahzarni, who had then sent them to Voya Nui to hide his shame. This is why they appeared very hunched over with gangly arms.

The 2007 matoran were 2006 matoran who had been mutated by water borne mutagen into a partially water breathing state. A mix of the mutation and presumabaly them rebuilding theirselves slightly (the Mahri Nui matoran appeared to have developed technology more advanced than that of those on Voya Nui) is the cause of their appearance.

Karda Nui matoran has a few reasons:
Av-Matoran were the matoran prototypes, hence why they were slightly different to others.
The shadow matoran were mutated by the draining of their moral light and their Makuta masters experimenting on them, causing them to mutate into their bat-like monstrous forms.
Karda Nui was full of volatile energy which caused most matoran exposed to it to grow slightly. A matoran will shrink back to the standard size after they have been away from Karda Nui for a while.
>>
In /tg/'s opinion, who were the best villains?

For me, obviously Makuta No.1, but I really liked the Barraki aswell. Mutated paranoid warlords commanding armies of sea creatures and terrified that the other five are out to kill them are awesome.

I really liked the piraka for the fact that they were honestly the first non-swarm villains that came in canisters, like anti-toa. The only others that came close previously were the bohrok-kal.

The swarm enemies were still well done, with the bohrok having the hivemind alien feel, the vahki as fanatical dystopian enforcers, and the visorak being the most insect-like.
>>
The titan villains were also always cool, such as the dark hunters that defeated toa by trolling them into play mistakes, roodaka's cutthroat rise to power and attempt to usurp sidorak, and of course all the titans who devoutly guarded the mask of life
>>
>>24320232
The barraki weren't the only ones that acted like that; the piraka did too. Also, the makutas from the 2008 arc thought teaming up was pointless because they knew teridax didnt care about them, making either course of action a lose-lose situation. I liked that reason why the villains never could hold victory for long was because they were always at eachothers' throats. they always had the power to defeat the toa, but never the unity to do it. reminds me of plato's justice argument

united villains> united toa> divided villains> divided toa, but the united villains wouldnt be possible
>>
>>24321666

My favorite was the giant dragon made from vezzon & fenrak, axxon, and brutaka.

I like them quite a lot to be honest.
>>
>>24322254

I rewatched the first one for shits and giggles a while back, and I was kinda bothered by some of the shit in the ending

>Gather the turaga and the matoran and wait for my return
>Two minutes later, all the turaga are there
First off, how big is Mata Nui again?
Second, how did they get six people from six different regions together in about two minutes?

>Later on, they enter the cave and Makuta blows the entrance
>"Lol they trapped forever here now," or something

Or they could just pick through the rubble?

>Open the door thing to Metru Nui
>Required Taka Nuva + Makuta to get it open, and killed them in the process
>Only two other matoran with them, and the turaga

So wait, are they trapped for good now? The shit.

And I recall a few lip synchronization issues in the second one. Don't remember much of the third other than Roodaka's voice.

Damn that woman's voice, gets me hard every time.
