Or Bright Quest

The Quest So Far:
A man named Bright Noah joins Zeon (For Reasons Yet Unexplored), and is promoted to Captain of the Musai class cruiser ‘Longfellow’ for his actions during the One Week Battle / Battle of Loum. Newly minted Majors Bright and Char Aznable are ordered by Dozle Zabi to perform a joint investigation of the rumored Earth Federation Mobile Suit in development at Side 7. After entering the Loum Shoal Field, and thwarting an ambush by the legitimate Midnight Insertion Team, Bright discovered the Federation is making another Experimental Mobile Suit in the neutral territory of Side 6. Zaku II pilot Kareem Councilman was sent to Pezun to bring word of this to Lord Dozle Zabi, who immediately contacted President Sherk of the Riah Republic with the request to investigate. His Riah Intelligence Agents have done so, photographing the early construction of the RX-78NT-1 Alex before returning with their findings…
Meanwhile, at Loum, the first mobility tests of the modified Zudahs were... inauspicious at best. The secondary manned tests later showed the units to be reliable, for the time being. The Zudah ‘Triple’ was also successfully tested and later manned, and might well prove a terror on the battlefield.
Currently, the salvaged Salamis has rejoined the Siegfried. The EFF prisoners are being transferred from the Magellan battleship to the two Pazok class cruisers sent from Pezun, while the Papua had a VIP: The mad scientist who got Bright into this whole testing mess in the first place, Professor Felix Ceff. Having banished Ceff to the CIC so Bright could check on Ezra Retersdorf, Bright and Ezra are subjected to a closed door Zabi conference on a hidden SD Card, in which Dozle calls Gihren an Idiot and uses Avalon Wonderland for Operation British.

That'll tell you more than you wanted to know.

Basic rules still apply (Grey Box): Roll d20: Highest dice roll out of the first three rolls is used for the Dice Check (DC), while all three rolls are averaged to determine other internal factors, if applicable. Natural 20’s and Critical Failures (1) supersede all other rolls made.

Roll d100: d100’s are used for different factors, the most applicable of which will be listed at the call for the roll. High is always better.

Rolling for Time: When asked to roll for time, the first roll response will be used, with additional rolls used as necessary. This is the only time low rolls are desired.

NewType powers, since they are plot breaking, will be based on a point system.
For every natural 20 you roll, you'll get .5 NTP. If you roll an 11 on a d20, it will be worth .25 of a NTP. Double rolls on a D100 will also garner .25 NTP.

You can exchange 1 NTP for an automatic critical success / plot breaking idea. You can also exchange 1 NTP to reduce an opposing main character's plot armor by 1/4 or 1/2 on any actions you take against them - the amount reduced will be situational, and depend on what you're planning on doing.

Ten minutes later, his prayers completed and his prayer mat once again folded crisply and tucked into his small kit bag, Kareem headed out of the assembly room which served as Pezun’s concession to the devout to see what all the fuss and bother was.

He was quickly informed Dozle Zabi had ordered Pezun’s defensive umbrella forward to cover Riah from an attack the Earth Federation was sending from Hatte, also known as Side 2. This attack seems to have been spurred due to the information delivered here by none other than Kareem himself.

Frowning, Kareem took himself to the Siegfried’s Komusai, walked past the milling pilots, and sat down by his Zaku to think.

For once, his sense of Duty and inner voice of Placement were conflicting.

Coming to a decision, Kareem carefully picked himself up off the floor and headed into Pezun’s administration block. Arriving at Colonel Hasfjord’s office, he requested of the secretary a brief audience with him, and then settled in for a wait.

It was not too long before Colonel Lucius Hasfjord granted him a few minutes of his time, and Kareem asked him simply, “If you do not mind my asking, what do you have available that can make the trip from Pezun to Riah in the least amount of time?”

Lucius cocked his head, considering the question. “That depends. Why are you asking?”

“I feel that my place is there, to help Major Aznable. If my memory serves, he is only carrying standard equipment aboard the Flamel for his Zaku twos. When I arrived aboard the Siegfried, your technicians had preloaded many different types of weapons for testing the Zudahs entrusted to us by Professor Ceff,” Kareem explained. “What Major Aznable needs to hold his position until your forces arrive is anti-shipping equipment. I wish to take this equipment to him in the fastest way possible.”

Colonel Hasfjord tapped his chin with steepled fingers in thought. “I do have something which could make it there in a few minutes,” he said slowly. “But, knowing your medical history – I took the liberty to pull your file and review it – it might well kill you. My other options include a similar machine, which will make it there in thirty minutes, or a Zudah which Ceff left here for some reason, which should make it to Riah in forty minutes. We’re sending our Musai and Chivvays forward ahead of Pezun, and they’ll arrive within an hour and ten minutes. So, my question of you is this, Sergeant Councilman: Are you willing to put your life on the line, simply to supply a man known for his brilliant grasp of mobile suit tactics?”

Kareem nodded once. “My place is there. While it would serve no one for me to die en-route, I have no reservations with placing myself at risk to get necessary supplies to the battlefield.” He gestured to the far wall, which doubled as a projection area, and asked “May I see the specifications of this machine you speak of?”

Lucius sighed, grabbing his computer’s mouse. A few clicks later and a projection came up, displaying the Bigro ‘High-altitude Grasper’s details. Kareem frowned at the indicated maximum acceleration of .6g, which was slightly over the limit of stress his imperfect body could tolerate. He then noticed something. “This unit, what is it’s intended role?”

“Blockade running, and being able to fetch a Komusai launched from Earth and retreat at speed through said blockade,” Colonel Hasfjord explained. “Lord Degawin required us to come up with something in case Lord Garma needed a fast extraction, and informed us we should work ‘with the assumption our secure low-Earth orbit zones above California and Odessa had been compromised’.”

“So, it will pair with a Komusai?”

Lucius used his mouse to rotate the schematics to show the rail system built into the bottom of the Bigro HG. “Same system used in a Musai,” he said. “But, we haven’t tested it yet. Hasn’t been any need.”

“And the Mass drivers, they are currently operational?” Kareem continued.

“Yes. Have been since the Zarn and Mua fleets stared to spread out last week. As of yet, they haven’t attempted to reinforce Hatte, or meet up with anything sent from Earthside. More or less the same thing as always, the EFF using fleet movements to make us waste time and manpower worrying about them. Why?”

A brief smile played across Kareem’s features as he asked, “Have you any SRFC’s?”

Lucius raised an eyebrow as he answered, “Of course.”

“Then we load a Solid-Fuel Rocket-Equipped Freight Container with all the Zaku Bazookas and Ammunition it can carry, fire it to Riah, alert them to its arrival and request they ferry it to Major Aznable, while I take the Komusai and eight Zaku’s from your defense fleet as quickly as I can via the Bigro to reinforce the line,” Kareem said, spreading his hands. “Simple.”

Colonel Hasfjord blinked, and opened his mouth to rebut Councilman’s ‘simple’ appellation, but thought better of it and instead pickled up his phone. “I need an SRFC loaded for Magellan and sent to Riah as of yesterday,” he snapped.

Kareem offered him a thankful bow, one arm folded at his waist, and asked “If I may be excused, and have permission to sortie in this ‘Bigro’ machine?”

“You do - and good luck, Sergeant.”

Kareem snapped a salute to the Colonel and said, “You as well, sir.”

Kareem returned to the Komusai and informed the two pilots of his intentions. Their immediate reation was one of disbelief, but they agreed to accommodate his plans, and the three of them quickly went to work. Fix, the Komusai’s co-pilot, was rated to pilot Zaku II’s, and he offered to dock Kareem’s Zaku in the Komusai while he saw about securing the necessary equipment and brief training on how to fly a Mobile Armor.

Thankfully, the instructions were short and to the point, and the controls were similar to enough to those of a Mobile Suit that he did not feel completely ill at ease with the larger machine. Rather, it felt almost comfortable.

As he proceeded with the pre-flight checks, Colonel Hasfjord buzzed him. “Your arms shipment is en-route, and Riah has been advised. Major Aznable sends his thanks.”

“Understood.”

“I’ve also ordered the boys load that Zudah into your Komusai – never know when an extra MS will come in handy. And we couldn’t ship the cracker grenades you wanted with the Mass Driver, so they’re also stowed in your Komusai. Might want to unlink it before getting into any fire-fights,” Lucius advised.

“Copy that,” Kareem said. “Thank you again, Colonel.”

Lucius adjusted his hat. “Just try not to get killed getting there, Councilman. I should have thought to order my pilots out in these prototypes, but didn’t – and that’s my failure. I’ll keep my mind open to these options in the future. Hasfjord, out.”

With that the great hangar doors opened, and Kareem eased the throttle forward. The oversized machine pulled into the void smoothly, and Kareem carefully followed the computer’s projected flight path to locate the Komusai.

The link up system went off without a hitch. Upon approach, he simply engaged the laser-lock guidance system, and the two ship’s onboard computers took over and locked the Komusai’s docking rail into the Bigro’s under slung carrier system. The computer verified the connection was secure, and a green light indicated he could proceed at a maximum of .5g.

“Are you gentlemen strapped down?” he asked of the Komusai crew.

“Punch it, sir!”

And Kareem ‘punched it’.

It felt like a mule had kicked him down a flight of stairs, and a thousand black stars swam through his vision as he labored to breathe. But he held on for the five minutes before the rendezvous with the Chivvays. The proximity klaxon came one, and he pulled the throttle down, flipped the machine 180 degrees vertically, and slid the throttle to half – hissing in pain the entire time.

But eventually, the ship slowed, until he was keeping pace with the larger red Chivvay beside him. The Bigro’s Mono-eye swivled over to eye the Chivvay’s engine block, and he moved the ship over slightly to engage the touch communications suite. “I’m looking to ferry eight Zaku’s to the Riah defense line ASAP,” he stated in clipped, pained tones. “Now is the time, should anyone wish to join the battle early.”

Shocked silence met his broadcast for a long moment, before cheers erupted, followed by the calls of the various pilot’s, each clamoring to go.

Three, however, stood out above the rest.

“Gaia! Ortega! Latch on to that Mobile Armor on the Double!”

“Roger!”

“On it, boss.”

The Riah communications officer contacted Char earlier, informing him that Pezun is sending a freight container filled to the brim with Zaku anti-shipping equipment, which should arrive in five minutes. Shortly behind it is a Mobile Armor, which was planning on stopping mid way to pick up as many Zaku’s as it could carry and drag them to the front ASAP.

Of this, Char was glad – with five Zaku’s and a Musai, he’d manage with their current equipment against two, perhaps three Salamis light cruisers. But the best reports Riah had been able to forward to him suggested Hatte had a minimum of six Salamis pattern light cruisers and two Magellan pattern battleships available to throw around.

Char had faced off with Magellan's at Loum, back when nuclear tipped missiles were still an option. He hadn’t liked facing them down then, and he especially didn’t like the idea of doing it now, armed with only a Machine Gun and a few Cracker grenades. The greater armament would be a boon, and the addition of a fast-attack Mobile Armor could prove very useful for harrying the enemy.

And of course, there was always Char’s own MS-06S Zaku II Customized Commander Type. But, other than his guile and the great speed for which his Zaku was known by enemy and ally alike, he had little going for him until reinforcements arrived.

Not much information about them on MAHQ, so here's how I'll use them.

The Public will be using Torpedoes. They do a static 20 Damage.
The outdated targeting system means they suffer a -3 to hit.

The Jicco has 7 missile launchers. Each Missile does 5 damage per hit, static.
And again, the outdated targeting system means they suffer a -3 to hit.

You can certainly relay telemetry and targeting data via Laser Comm from the Public- and Jicco-class' from the Falmel. The difficulty lies in the tech used for the weapons themselves.

Most of the tech up to the invention of the Minovsky-Ionesco fusion recator were similar to the present day systems: Smart missiles, laser guided warheads, radio control drones. The Minovsky radiation shuts all of that down. Radio waves are 'absorbed' by M-Partilces, and even lasers are degraded if the density of the particles is high enough, and the communication stretches too far within the effected area. This is why you see the various MS' actually touching the hull of the ship they wish to talk to in a battle zone - the radio's use the entire MS frame as an antennae, and the M-Particles are so good at absorbing EM radiation, that you have to touch antennae together to get signal.

So, in the case of these large, guided warheads - they lose the laser guidance, or the M-Particles interfere with internal signals (like some cellphones can with modern day Airplanes), and whatever-other handwavium happens to make the missile either miss or blow up before it reaches it's intended target.

Zeon gets around this by firing dumb fire weapons.
The EFF get around this my firing massive amounts of the effected ordinance, and hoping it doesn't blow up close to the ship.

Mega particle Cannons can use on site reconnaissance data, from either a Zaku or a Dodai fighter, to better sight in the target before firing. But all the calculations are done on ship, and you're just throwing the ordinance out there.

If my knowledge of the One Week War is accurate, The mass deployment of the Zaku II heavily skewed the battle in Zeons favor. Assuming that the Salamis and Magellan have little to no point defense systems, closing in with them will help prevent them bringing their mega particle cannons to bear on the Zakus...

The Saberfish are best at intercepting, so they can keep any balls off our ships.
The assault crafts should stick to attacking the Magellans, even if only to hinder their aim...
The Missile boats could also thin out the enemy balls by firing their missiles in a spread, maybe with timed detonations to act in a similar capacity to air-burst... If not, then they can 'spray' the Salamis with the missiles.

As for Char himself...
His mode of attack would likely see him dash between ball concentrations, taking passing shots at them while using them to prevent the cruisers & battleships from targeting him with their MPCs, then either though luck, concentrated fire or application of heat hawk, open their launch hatches and introduce much unneeded Cracker Grenades to the ships interior...

or he could preform similar assaults on their bridges or engines for similar effects.

The Salamis's AA fire is weak to the ship's underside, and the Magellan's AA fire is weak to the rear. It would be wisest to attack them from directions where they will have a hard time intercepting mobile suits or missiles.

As it comes to it, no plan survives contact with the enemy. Our current modus operandii should be Blitzkrieg tactics until our reinforcements arrive. Get in, hit them, get out. Present the lowest profile that we possibly can. We can do this simply because we are a small, dedicated (mostly) elite group of badasses.

Continue securing our objectives as they stand and have the Riah gubment keep monitoring the situation. If it looks as if the Feds will react to the Vanguard that is proceeding ahead of the main Zeon fleet, have them contact Char and we will react accordingly.

We simply lack enough information at this time to make a proper plan of action.

They rotate with the moon, as the Sides are tied into the Moon's Lagrange points. So, where they appear to be in the static images is misleading - the Earth rotates under the colonies, and the colonies rotate around the planet.

It's less 'Geo-Synchronous' and more 'These Areas are Gravitic Null Zones Due To the Interplay Between the Moon's Gravity Well and the Earth's Gravity Well'.

We should start research on a new MS. One made specifically for earth combat.
It should be larger than anything produced so far, with integrated weapons for hands-free battling. The weapons should be capable of handling all range brackets, and be the largest in their class, with some lighter weapons to back them up.
Because of its size, thrusters will be unfeasible, but its size and armor should be more than enough to protect it.

Okay, so here’s how I understand your general plan of attack (for the time being):

Equip the paired Zaku teams with 1x 360mm Rakaten bazooka, and assumabably the other gets a 280mm Zaku Bazooka.

Char gets to Dual Wield bazooka’s and carry more Crackers than a Pinata, and will attempt to earn his moniker all over again. I assume one he’s finished killing off two Salamis light cruisers, you’ll want him to fall back and support whoever needs it most, yes?

The Jicco’s will spilt and attempt to fire missile swarms into any large groups of RB-79 Balls and / or Saber Fish S3’s.

Public Class Assault ships will attempt to slip through the ensuing chaos and unload their Anti-Ship Torpedoes into any Magellan’s on the field.

The available Riah Republic Defense Saberfish S1’s will be slit between harassing RB-79 balls and / or Saberfish S3’s and protecting the Jicco’s / PCA’s.

Meanwhile, the Falmel and one Public Class Assault ship will create an ‘Absolute Defense Line’, and fire upon any targets of opportunity when not attacking ships that comes near.

Attack pattern will change as the situation warrants it.

Regardless of what the EFF decides to throw at us, we can reasonably expect their ‘Ball’ units, along with the updated Saberfish Zeon has been skirmishing with around Solomon and Side three. I would like to have your Saberfish contingent break into to groups, with the primary goal to defend you fellows, and the secondary goal to harry and destroy any ‘ball’ or ‘Saberfish’ forces you can. Try to get them to group up. Jiccos, one to each flank - when you see a massed target, take the shot. PCA’s, Two to each side."

A chorus of affirmations sounded off, and another indicator light came on. Char switched frequencies. “Yes, Slender?”

“Sir, the Rocket Docket came in,” said the Corporal. “It’s loaded with more Rockets than I know what to do with. No Crackers, though.”

“Plenty in the Falmel, for now,” Char observed dryly as he followed the beacon Slender was broadcasting, and flared his thrusters to come to a soft stop by the container. He flipped the mounting – rear switch, and the computer automatically slung his 120mm on the back mounting plate. Once the arms were free, Char unlatched two 210mm Zaku Bazookas from their moorings and gave them an experimental heft. Satisfied, he took eight additional rockets, and snapped them into place long the interior of his arm shield. After a bit of finagling, he managed to convince a pair of Sturmfausts to stick to the edge of the shield via magnetic clamps.

Oddly, there were two heat hawks inside the container as well. Seeing as he had tossed his earlier and not had time to reclaim it, Char took one and locked it into place on his Zaku’s left hip. He stayed long enough to ensure the others equipped themselves properly, before dashing off to the Falmel to fill his Zaku’s fuel reserves and load up on Cracker grenades. He was able to load two on the right hip, and another two on the exterior of his arm shield, before the Falmel’s Arms Master declared his Zaku a viable hazard and waived him off.

And then the waiting began.

Also, why do core-fighter pilots have a tendency to suicide into an enemy suit? I knew Slegger done it to disable the Big Zams I-Field, but why did the 'chocolate moose' guy (see MSGA) suicide into a Zaku? could he not have just shot it? I'm sure the Core-Fighters had at least one weapon on them...

Char had never liked waiting for an operation to begin. As he pulled into his rough position at the head of the defensive line, he lowered the volume of the communications suite, reducing the restless chatter between the RRSDF pilots to a low drone.

After twenty odd minutes of second guessing, resisting the urge to re-secure his armaments, and idly tapping his control yoke, the comm. suite flashed the Alart.

Raising the gain back up to normal levels, he heard the Komusai’s report.

“…peat – three Salamis patterns and one Magellan confirm, coming in from Field D, with Ball and Saberfish escorts, M-Particle density too high for further readings, withdrawing to Falmel, over!”

“Roger, Komusai,” Dren’s low baritone rumbled over the line. “RTB. Major Aznable, your orders?”

“All hands, combat stations. Mobile Suits and Riah contingent, engage the enemy!” Char said, and slammed the throttle forward to 3x.

The red Zaku roared into action towards the enemy forces. Field D was closer to Royal and Crown’s position, and erratic tracer fire from the Saberfish lit the void as he approached.

A Ball unit cut in front of Char’s path, chasing one of the two Zaku’s, and Char took the opportunity to kick it aside into a small group of Saberfish that were coming back around for another pass. The explosion that lit his rear camera was satisfying.

He put it out of his mind as the Anti-Air fire coming from the two Salamis intensified, more and more flack and tracer fire aiming at his suit.

And an almost… palatable sense of dread coming from the lead Salamis? What was? Char shook his head as he leveled both bazooka’s towards the vessel.

Char juked hard to the left, before cutting his thrust entirely, his Zaku’s mono-eye sensor locked on the Salamis’ main cannons. As the two that could depress to target him swiveled about, he waited until he saw the barrels ‘bounce’ slightly before hitting the thrust, flying straight up as the AkAk gunners finally reacquired him. Two lances of bright pink energy intersected the space he had occupied but a moment prior, and he dearly hoped nothing was behind him when that happened.

It was only a passing thought, as the whole of his attention was on the bridge of the enemy ship, and that his crosshairs were lined up on it.

He fired both bazooka’s at the same time – or tried, at least, the Zaku’s left hand seemed a half second slow. But no matter, as the two rockets impacted, one through the main bridge shutters and the other lower down, punching through the tower’s super structure.

Floating above the Salamis’ front AA battery kept them from firing at him, but also made his red Zaku a highly visible target. Doubly so, when one factored in the explosions he had just caused. Three Balls attempted to fire on him from behind as the Magellan’s lower front turret began to swivel his way.

Balls could raise or lower their aim easily, but had a more difficult time traversing targets from side to side. Char used that hard won knowledge to his advantage, moving laterally and deftly avoiding the Ball’s futile fusillade. As he moved, his fingers danced over the communications suite control board, firing a short laser transmission to Riah with his targeting computer’s best estimation of the wounded Salamis’ location flagged for retransmission to the Falmel.

The only good thing about fighting near a Colony, he supposed, was the better lines of communication due to the available power and surface area of the Colonies radio and laser communications relays. A loud carrier tone indicated receipt of the message, and another, higher tone indicated the Falmel was about to fire, and he was in the way.

No better time to pick another target, as far as Char was concerned.

Keeping an eye on the Magellan’s lower MPC turret, Char rolled to the right, snapping out of the roll with a hard ascent. The lower of the Magellan’s main guns fired at the same moment, aiming to where he had been. The electro magnetic backlash from the Minovsky particles blinded his sensors for a brief moment, and he heard ‘spangs’ as solid rounds hit his Zaku’s torso, followed by the sharp whistle of escaping air.

He grabbed his helmet and quickly slipped it on, using his knee to jostle the flight stick for some very basic evasive maneuvering as he reseated the seal and felt the helmet latch into place. Of all the times…

As his hands moved back to the yoke, his sensors came back online, and he realized he was scant inches from the Magellan’s top Mega particle Cannon.

He then turned, and kicked the rear of the Sturnfaust’s launcher as hard as the Zaku could before hitting the throttle to…

For as far as I am aware, from what Char has said, there are a set number of entry points, but exit can be done anywhere...

Also, based on enemy strength estimations, by pulling the majority of forces from the Side 3, A-baoa-Qu and Pezun defensive fleets, we could flank round the earth taking sides 2, 7, Luna 2 and Side 4, then a pincer attack on Side 1, thus giving full control of the colonies to Spacenoid Governments.

I understand that the flaw with this is that the EFF can deploy reinforcements from Earths surface to any orbital location, however, if this was done in conjunction with a second wave ground assault, their Ground forces should be either pushed back or tied up sufficiently for us to establish better colonial defenses...

by the way, Does Jaburo have it's own mines and resource production facilities or is it purely EFFs central command and manufacturing facility?

because if we can starve it of resources, the Assault on Jaburo should be slightly easier as they won't be able to easily replace lost equipment...

Orbital Drop Zones:
To the best of my Knowledge (IE, this is how it is in the Quest) Zeon has two that they patrol and have kept secure for the time being: the California (USA) and Odessa (Ukraine / Russia) Geo-Synchronous Orbit Drop and Staging areas. California was secured as a way to seize EFF military production facilities in the US and Mexico, so a land army could be built and fielded against EFF HQ in Jaburo, South America. Odessa was secured as a means to seize raw material, begin mining operations, and send food and mineral assets to Zeon.

The EFF doesn't need to maintain drop zones - they can launch ships whenever they feel like from Jaburo. They do try to take the held drop zones back from Zeon, in order to reduce the number of incoming Zeek pilots (CA) and reduce the amount of material shipped (OD).

Jaburo is large enough that is is assumed it contains enough raw material to produce at least half it's number of dry docks worth of new warships without being supplied. The exact number of dry dock facilities are unknown.

If I'm understanding this question correctly, it's a matter of human resources. Not every man woman and child is going to be a Soldier. And in the case of Zeon, they started the fight with a smaller population - something on the order of sixty to ninety million people. Versus the EFF's two billion. Zeon developed the MS due to this disparity. By making a weapon that has strong offense and only needs one pilot to operate effectively, this evens the playing field, allowing Zeon to field effective units regardless of the perceived lack of manpower.

You can insert from orbit anywhere you'd like with MS. Granted, the landing might be a bit rough, and if it's not friendly territory it'll be a fight, but you can insert without needing to hold the orbital location any longer than it takes to send your troops down. That's easy to do. In, Drop, Out.

Actually holding a drop point, long term, is more difficult and it would honestly surprise me if Zeon was holding more than two against the EFF. The only reason California and Odessa are being held is they have enough of a force at each one to be difficult to destroy without the EFF's remaining fleet assets fully assembling to do so. And if they do, Zeon will muster a fleet in response. Mutually Assured Destruction at it's finest.

Things did change a bit since you folks decide to use the Avalon Wonderland colony rather than Side 2's Colony 8:

The Majority of the EFF wet navy is / was intact, and provided strong resistance in taking California Base, Hawaii, and the Eastern Seaboard. The EFF still controls the majority of the USA East of the Rocky mountains.

He was trying to pull as much speed as possible from the Zaku II, ignoring the AA fire and enemy forces that followed his arrow-straight flight path as he kept a mental countdown in his head going from one to thirty.

Because at thirty seconds, the Sturmfaust’s warhead would arm and viole-

The Zaku’s frame shook with enough force to kick him out of his seat. The automatic restraint system quickly hauled him back into place, slamming him against the rubberized surface with nearly as much force as he’d been tossed out of it.

A deceptively soft crackling sound echoed in his cockpit as small fragments of the cannon impacted with the Zaku’s retreating back. He rotated the MS to both get a better look and to allow the shards to hit the suit’s left arm, which was free of munitions.

The entire front section of the Magellan which housed the MPC’s was floating away like a fresh iceberg broken off the Antarctic coastline. Blue flame licked the void where the main fusion pipeline to the cannons must have been on the majority’s side, and the smaller section was tumbling end over end, knocking a dazed ball aside and bisecting a hapless Saberfish – Riah or EFF, he couldn’t tell. With any luck, the piece would hit the Magellan’s escorts, and further damage the enemy.

my point is the greatest problem we face in regards to expanding our space operations, is that the EFFs can launch their forces from the earth to any orbital location. This does not help them when we have our forces concentrated, but since Man-Power is our greatest shortage, we don't have the numbers to secure all of the Sides, So, If we can Severely limit the EFFs launch capability, by confining them to their heavily fortified bases, we can move the units designated to keeping Drop Zones secure to acting as an Orbital Blockade, confining the Feds to the planet where our ground forces will keep them blockaded in their bases.

The problem with this strategy is even if we manage to "confine" them, their main heavily fortified base is synonymous with "impregnable fortress" and possesses the infrastructure to build, man and launch ships to orbit all on its lonesome. There's a reason why Operation British was put into motion. Jaburo remaining in operation is a deal-breaker for the whole of the war.

Once again, you're missing out on the operative word in this whole thought exercise: "If." The fact of the matter is we won't have the manpower or the material to effectively field a force on Earth that will be sufficient to force the EFF to bunker up without acquiring the additional resources from the other colonies. They probably thought that they could take over Side 6 before Zeon could get reinforcements there, hoping to steamroll the Riah defenses and preserve their Gundam project.

If they try it with any other Side that tries to pull out of a similar under-the-table deal, then that will assure that the neutral Sides will ally with Zeon. They can't put up a credible defense otherwise.

In the free moment he had before rejoining the battle, he reached down and pulled open the Birdlime canister. A large glob of tacky fiberglass sealant came free of the unit, and was immediately sucked towards the right armored cockpit hatch. Another glob sped off to the same direction, while a third sped behind his chair towards a hole in the rear armored compartment Char hadn’t known about. The forth blob came free, and after it failed to float towards the walls, he used the canister’s vacuum pump to pull the blob back into the container. Ensuring his cockpit was once again filled with a breathable atmosphere, he removed his normal suit’s helmet and took a deep breath.

Stowing his helmet took but a moment and settling his hands back onto the controls Char moved his Zaku to the munitions box floating near the PAC that remained on station with the Falmel. Golden light erupted from the Falmel, lighting the immediate area as the Musai pattern cruiser lent its firepower to the skirmish erupting in Field Q.

Topping off his spent munitions and snapping another Sturmfaust onto the top edge of his shield via magnetic clamp, Char rocketed back towards the fight in progress at Field D.

The Salamis’ must have seen him returning, as three gouts of pink energy suddenly lit the night, speeding directly towards him.

It took all of his skill to weave and doge around the massed fire – whoever was left in the first Salamis’ CIC must not have enjoyed the Bazooka round he’d put through the bridge, and was coordinating the two Salmis’ fire towards his unit at the exclusion of all else.

Which is why they never saw Royal’s legless Zaku, braced against the struts of the empty torpedo bay of a Public Assault Class, its engines burning at full to pop up and around the engine block of the second salamis, Royal unloading the full magazine of four Rakaten 360mm rockets directly into the armor above the main reactor.

The second Salamis buckled, blue fusion fire erupting from its rear as the Public sped away, backlit by secondary explosions which tore the EFF light cruiser asunder.

Using the opening provided by the second Salamis’ sudden demise, Char sped in and took aim at the CIC of the remaining cruiser and fired both bazookas. The left arm again fired late, the left round nailing the comm. antennae as the other neatly punched a hole in the glass of the main window. The resulting explosion blew the glass out on all sides, throwing light and debris into the void as the Mega-Particle Cannons fell silent.

Crown’s Zaku came in from above, firing his 120mm at a Ball unit chasing a Riah S1. The tanks holding heilium-3 gave, and as the enemy Ball exploded, Crown pulled up even with Char, Sliding another rocket into the rear compartment of his 210mm Bazooka. Char took a moment to reload as well, as Crown asked “So, do you like your Salami toasted or baked?”

“Actually, I prefer oyster,” Char quipped, snapping his bazookas shut and moving away from the Salamis. Crown fired his 120mm again, discouraging the last wing of Saberfish S3’s from strafing them as Char lined up his aim at the engine block of the crippled vessel.

Two rockets sped towards the target, puncturing the armor above the Minovsky-Ionesco fusion reactor and laying it bare for the third rocket. As the tell tale blue flame signaled the end of the cruiser’s operational life, Char considered his next move.

And with that, Char engaged his thrusters. Traveling towards Field Q required him to cut in front of the Falmel, and as he did so, he spotted the Mobile Armor using the larger Zeon cruiser as a shield while it unlinked from a Komusai.

If Char does not use the Bigro, I would suggest that Denim use it as he is the only pilot who can sortie in the MA who has Combat Experience.

Only reason I know this is that Char actively said that he put Denim with Jean in the hopes that Denims experience could keep Jean in line, though Jean wanted to be the Big Damn Hero, and attacked anyway...

As such, yes - the standard R1 is faster by a slim margin - only due tot he larger thuster ports on the legs. The R1A is faster by 400 kg of thrust.

Char's Zaku II will need to have the right armored cockpit hatch replaced, and they'll also need to figure out where that hole is in the rear compartment, as well as check for any additional damage. That will need to be done after the fight. For the time being, Char's MS-06S is at 12 of 15 HP (-5 damage, +2 healed via Birdlime).

Royal's Zaku is at 5HP.

In regards to the Zudahs, If a standard 'Ceff' Zudah is faster than Chars Zaku, does that mean that the 5xfaster trait for the Triple Z mean that it is 5x faster than the standard 'Ceff' Zudah? how does that compare to the future MS's?

The Triple is '5x Faster' [than a MS-06 Zaku II].

It is 1.5 x Faster than Char's MS-06S / an MS-06R1.

The Triple would be a match for the GP-01 in acceleration, but the GP-01 would beat it in maneuvering and braking due to placement and advancements in vernier technology.
