Freak Quest time!

In this quest, you take the role of a big armed, friendly freak, who is currently adventuring with his lizard like friend Joey.

Previous threads can be found here:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=freak+quest

In the last session, after waking from a disturbing nightmare, you found yourself in a strange bedroom with Joey. After eating some jelly, and trying to drink some of the weird drinks that had been left on the table in the room, you and Joey decided to try to spy on the older freaks who had treated you. You ventured to a strange bath room where you eaves dropped on the discussion the two older freak ladies were having. It turns out that the strange syringe is something called aromaculi, and it is very valuable. The two freaks were themselves in a situation in which they needed outside help to deliver the syringe to their masters. After hearing that they planned on using you and Joey to do this delivery, you quickly decided to act stupid so that the older freaks wouldn't realize that you were in fact aware of their plan.

After an extraordinary successful bluffing you managed to convince the two freaks to think that you and Joey were perfect for the Job. While the other freak lady prepared the syringe inside a some sort of pheromone package, the other instructed you where to take it.

>How this works:
Suggest an action and the freak will act. I will try to illustrate it as well as I can. Certain actions will require 1d10 rolls to see if they are successful. There are also slightly more complicated rules for combat:

There are 3 stats, strength, toughness, and agility, in addition to them, there are hitpoints.
All stats are capped at 10, and the baseline hitpoints of a gutterborn freak like the MC are 6.

Attacks are handled like this:
The attacker rolls 2d6.
The first roll is for the attack damage, second for the speed.
Damage: 1d6+str+modifiers (if there are any)- the foe's toughness.
Speed: 1d6+agi

The target of the attack may try to either dodge or block the blow.
Dodge: 1d6+agi vs Attack speed.
Bloc: 1d6+toughness vs attack damage.
Ties go in the favor of the attacker.

These rules are still work in progress, and I appreciate any input on them.

Here is your current inventory:
>3 empty small containers.
>1 full small containers (1 biogel dozes)
>1 medium container with 5 biogel dozes.
>1 Pheromone package. (Strange syringe, aka aromaculi)
>Cutting tools.
>Claw arm.
>Improved walking eye bladder.
>1 ration package.
>Bone armor.

You are also equipped with a bone sword.
Joey has the bone knife.

>Brief recap of the last few post of the last session:
The insectoid lady steps closer to you and says:

"Unfortunately, I do not trust that you could find your destination, even if I explained it in detail. Thus, I will show it to you."

Before you can react, she grabs hold of you with her arms and says:
"Do not resist. It will hurt less."

The vision ends as quickly as it started, and as you re-open your eyes, a sharp pain hits your head.

The insectoid lady laughs heartily, and taps your head.
"Don't worry little gutter runner, the pain will end soon. Tum, is the package ready?"

"It is, dear sister." Says the tall freak.

"Good, then we are set. Let us just hope that these little ones can do their task. Now you two, remember, that this is your special mission. Do not mention it to anyone else, understand? When you get to the temple, ask for Revered sister Siran. Don't worry about the door mistresses, they will let you pass..you are on a special mission, after all."

The tall freak presents you the package. It has a strange, somewhat sweet scent, which you can't entirely place.
"Now, treat this package with care, for your mission's success depends on it."

You have acquired a pheromone package containing the strange syringe (aromaculi).

You and Joey have now packed up your gear, and are ready to leave the two older freaks.

"Remember, your mission is very special, do not speak of it to anyone." Says the tall freak.

Is there still something you want to do, or ask from the two ladies?
>>
>>24220714
is Tum based off of a turian?
>>
>>24220784

Not really.
She originates from one of the generic freak concept pictures I drew, just like Jial.

Javak.
You do not currently know his exact location. When you woke up, Joey said that he had visited you while you were unconscious, but then left somewhere with his friend, presumably the owner of this bar, Char.
>>
>>24220779

Nod politely, take our leave, keep calm and find Javak. Once we find him, attempt to tell him about the package, to see if this chitinous skank put any kind of mind control in us.
>>
>>24220826
Alright. I still don't like being used. I think we should try to find Javak and screw these broads over. Let's get going.

As soon as we're out of earshot of the vatmothers (that the right term?) tell Joey everything we overheard from her.
>>
>>24220826
>>24220845

In which case, return to the bar? The bartender might know where he is.
>>
>>24220855
I second this. Ask Yzel.
But before entering the bar again, make sure that the Ultros clan freaks aren't there still.
>>
>>24220855
Yeah, best if we were outta here sooner rather than later.

You and Joey nod tum and Jial goodbye, and then head out of their room.
You decide to go back to the bar, to ask Yzel if he knows where Javak is.
As you walk back to the stairway, you spot two older freaks in the corridor. They seem to be just casually chatting with each other.

"Did you hear how mad Char got when he found out that Ulae had let someone into the brewery. I heard that he is gonna have his touch receptors removed as a punishment."

"Thank the maker that I didn't get any flak from that. I was stationed as a guard in the next corridor."
>>
>>24221051
Don't bother them and keep moving.
>>
>>24221051
Just keep walking. Don't forget to tell Joey what we overheard.
>>
>>24221051

Interject as you approach.

"On a related note to that, gentlefreaks, we're looking for Javak. About my friend's height, trader with one of the guilds, was up talking with your employer during that... incident. Any idea where he is?"
>>
>>24221114
I dunno about that. Any attention we can garner will, in all likelyhood, result in only more trouble.
>>
>>24221202

Probably right. Retracting.
>>

You and Joey quickly move past the two chatting freaks.
They give you few curious glances, before returning to their discussion.

As you walk towards the staircase, you can hear the two talking behind you.

"..hopefully that will teach the wall scum to learn his place."
"Should we have stopped those gutterspawn? I doubt that they are allowed here."
"I don't know, nor do I care. I am not on guard duty right now."

Will you head downstairs?
>>
>>24221315
Hrmm. There's a risk the Ultros guys are still there, but the bartender might know where Javak is. Can we find our way to where Javak was before the Ultros spy attacked us?
>>
>>24221315
Proceed downstairs. It'l likely that we'll get to meet char in person. He probably has to run damage control since our little incident. If there is any Ultros clan still there, it's fine because the area is now neutral and patrolled.
>>
>>24221315
Is something the matter with Joey? She seems upset.
>>
>>24221411
That's because I forgot to write the stuff about you telling her what you overheard.

Joey is somewhat confused by the whole ordeal, and asks if you are going to do what the nice ladies asked of you.

Anyways, it will take a moment for me to make the next scene, as I need to repopulate the bar with new freaks.
>>
>>24221432
No troubles man. Take all the time you need.
>>
Now that FQop is working so hard on the scene, it makes me feel somewhat guilty that I'm going to suggest actions to leave the bar as soon as possible. Better get the next one ready.

You descend the stairway down to the bar and peek out of the doorway.

Your ears are again flooded with the sounds of the various discussions and arguments the freaks are having.
Again, due to the general commotion of the place, you can only make out few bits and pieces of sentences from here and there.

"..are good hunting grounds for gutter bor-"
"Sssh! You know how the clanners thing of that!"
"I saw a patcher fly the other day, horrible creatures."
"..some say that the Bulwark has been overrun by aughounds.."
"Well, what do you expect when Lienis can no longer.."
"The well will only bring problems here! No matter who holds it!"
"..ooh..naughty one you are?.."
"..gonna drink that or not!? You have been sitting here for hours, staring at that cup!"
"..from the Bazaar. The prices are atrocious though."
"Yeah, they take your arm and leg with them."
"..sucks! We have been waiting for Lekha for hours now! He probably ditched us for a night with a whore upstairs!"
"Yeah, let's go! Well come back tomorrow for him."
"..so, what else would you suggest for drinks than this?"

>brb, dinner.
>>

What are you gonna do?

You ask Yzel if he knows where Javik is.

"Hmm, he hasn't returned here since he went upstairs the first time. I recon that he is still with char. Either in the lounge or in Char's personal chambers. Do you want to go to him?"

"Hey, Yzal! Tell Lekha to meet us in the Begred's place if you see him." Yell the two passing freaks.
>>
>>24222677
"Yes, I do want to see him."
>>
>>24222677
The air of the bar seems much less hostile than before. There are no Ultros enemies to spot us. No creepy freaks are leering at us or Joey. What would be the harm of grabbing a solitary table or corner and waiting. I also want to overhear more pieces of barroom chatter.
>>
>>24222677
"Yes"
Go with Yzel. Keep an eye out in case of anyone following us. Be prepared this time. Ask if Joey can have a drink.
>>
>>24222729
>>24222811

Yzel can't actually move, as he is kinda anchored to the dispenser things on the wall.
He can however, instruct you where the Lounge or Char's chambers are.

>>24222756
This is also an option.
>>
>>24222811
Just moments before our talk with the two freaks who gave us the aromaculi, we let Joey BATHE in a tub FULL of bloodlike liquid. Joey has had Enough for awhile and giving even more is spoiling for trouble.
>>
>>24222888
I was not aware. Perhaps we should linger. My only fear is discovery by the Vat Mothers, though I think the likelyhood of that happening is slim.

There's my vote. Wait with Ivas. Explain what we overheard to Joey.
>>

Retracting this, going with >>24222756; Javak's likely going to exit through here first anyway, and getting more of a feel for the kind of society we'll have to deal with seems like a good idea.

Also because that poor guy nursing a drink in the corner looks sad. He needs a hug.

"Well, Char's chambers are upstairs. Directly from the end of the staircase, take a turn to the left. At the next intersection, take the left path again, and walk to the end of the corridor. The door at the end leads to his chambers.
You can find the lounge if you take the path to right at the end of the staircase. There is a big door that leads to it.
Of course, you aren't really supposed to go to the upper floors, but I can smell that you already somehow gained the scent. I would advice you to stay far away from Char."
>>

The fact that this is gigerworld can be a hinderance sometimes. In most anyother setting a bar is the perfect place to find NPCs with random fetch or hunter quests to earn minor rewards. Those two ideas don't seem to mesh well with our current situation. We do have the interesting journal objectives, but nothing to directly "gain +1 stat point" or "you will receive 5 health potions."
In GIGERWORLD, to open the locked chest you have to do crazy shit like rip an augment out of another freak's arm, swallow it along with 3 dozes of biogel for 2 days, then finally vomit upon the receptacle on the chest for it to open. If we were part of a clan like Ultros, we might have opportunities for simple "collect protection money" or "defend gang turf" side missions that are done quick and easy.

I want to wait inside the bar, no drinking, no fighting, just wait. Catch the local chatter and leave with Javak when he finally comes.
>>
>>24223787
Perhaps we should move on to meeting Godal? It was Javak's intent in the first place.
>>
>>24224111
Ivas knows the way. Ivas travels with Javak. Javak is still inside with Char. If we see Char, he will be mad at us.

"Oh, hello there children. Got fed up with the bar I take?"

You tell him that it got a little distressing and you wanted to get out for a while at least. However, you offer to go back and get him a drink.

"Thanks for the offer, but I am afraid that the liquids sold in Char's bar are not nearly strong enough for a freak of my size."

You also ask him what it is like working for the Golbax guild.

"Heh, working..well, could be worse. I do not really have a choice on the matter. The augments that made me into what I am now weren't free you know. I am valuable property of my guild, which of course, means that I tend to be protected well. So I would say that it has it's perks."

As time passed, they put more and more augments into me, so that I could carry and transport things even better. You start digging trough the refuse pile.
Most of the stuff here seems to have went trough some sort of partial digestion thing, as they are all mushy and partially dissolved.
The pile smells disgusting.

The small freak keeps yelling behind your back to stop digging trough his pile.

Roll 1d10 for finding the corpse you seek.

Does that sound good? Because if you don't want to bother with this guy, I suggest we keep an eye out for ways to purchase an aughound. Maybe even tame a wild one from the Bulwark, since that place is overrun with them, according to the bar gossip

That's not how aughounds work. They're freaks that have augmented themselves too much and/or too quickly. Not the result of eating a lot. They become nothing less than monsters. Lots of eating probably just results in a fat freak.
Even if struck down, the augs harvested from one are unusable without driving the new owner insane as well.

You pack your stuff and climb aboard Ivas as you prepare to leave.
You also chide Joey for just attacking and killing the little freak unprovoked, and say that either one of you could have been in the receiving end of such a situation.
Joey is somewhat annoyed by your criticism.

"I musst eat too! How else can I eat, if not by killing little and weak thingss? The wallss aren't tasty at all! And if someone tries to eat me, I run away. Thiss one was dumb! It wassn't even prepared to fight! Someone else would have eaten it soon!"

"Are you two ready back there? Well, even if you aren't we are leaving now! Yeees! Next stop, Yellow Bazaar!" Javak yells.

As you head out, you start feeling sleepy. The travel will take many hours, so you have some time to rest now.
Joey follows suit, after eating her kill.

Your body continues to grow and develop. The mushy biogel rich tissue in your body specializes into more and more developed tissues and organs, as your body continues to mature into it's final shape.
>You have 2 points to freely increase into any of your stats, hp or energy bar.

Joey's massive indulgence in the blood fluids in the bar, have given her body more material from which to further develop. Much like in you, her body too continues to mature.
>Joey also has 2 points to freely allocate to her stats, hp or energy bar.

I am gonna end the session here, as it is almost 5 am here. Sorry if this session was kinda sub par.

Alright, going with this one.

Here is your current stat picture.

>>24229866

It's pretty high.
For newborn gutterspawn, the avarage stats all hover somewhere around 0-2, depending on their mutations. As they grow, their stats increase too, of course.
However, there are many "tiers" of freaks, that can have higher strength than you. The armhead bodygurad creature for example, has a strength of 6, though, to be fair, they aren't normal freaks. They are guardian drones.

Anyways, I need to get to sleep now. It's over 5 am here. As always, feel free to offer criticism, or any other kind of input.
Also, if you want to keep a track of what to do in the next session, suggest what I should ad to the journal.

I'm going to bump this thread for a bit with art from Clive Barker's two Abarat books. This is Mater Motley, caretaker of the creepy antagonist Christopher Carrion, living on the island of midnight. She has created and sewn together a shawl of flesh from the bits her crows bring her. The mouths whisper secrets of the future to her, which she begrudgingly tells to Christopher to aid his twisted goals. She is manipulative, with words and her dexterous fingers.

Up next is John Mischief, a friendly red skinned fellow who is a strong fighter and clever thief. He is techically John Mischief the VIII, since he grew from the neck of the previous John, his brothers are now his antlers, all still living and talking. One day his next brother will grow and for John VIII will become an antler. He now owes money to a rough group and has to do their dirty work, despite being a very kind man.

His notoriety is such that the nursery rhyme "scaryman, scaryman" is about him.

And finally here is Christopher Carrion, the lord of midnight. As a corrupted noble, he commands great power and old world influence. He once set rumors upon his castle staff workers, and in the paranoia he spread, two brothers came to see each other as a murderous stalker. One night they donned masks and faced each other, thinking to end their potential killer. After one slew the other, and removed the mask to discover his own beloved brother, Christopher's response to the entire scene was, "A decent relief for my boredom, but the weeping became tiresome at the end." The apparatus he wears syphons the nightmares of his own mind into the amniotic fluid around his face, letting them flit in and out of his mouth for a taste.
>>
>>24232932
I want to continue bumping this until Sunday
People should discuss what we should try to do.
What are our main augment goals? Should we save most of our biogel for combat damage we take or can we make a large purchase with it? Joey and Javak and Ivas have all eaten another freak for sustenance, will we ever do the same? What will the voices whisper to us the next time we consume a load of biogel?

The most important this is that if we graft too many new or replacement parts to ourselves, we'll be reduced to monsters.

On multiple occasions, we've tried to help freaks in need, often with no explicit reward. We grabbed Joey while escaping from Uzal (a.k.a. Super Vagina). Helped Javak get back to Ivas. While it ended badly, we retrieved the spine for the freak in the wall. And most recently, we made sure that the little guy didn't get eaten by the street cleaner, although Joey did to him after.
We are a protector.

oh man, lets not. I can't say for 100% certain but I bet this is what gets injected in the victims. So that nobles can have unquestioning loyal servants. I've also see indications that it MAY spread virus like. Vat mothers would know the tricky part 2 to actually take advantage of it.
>>
>>24239624

And this is why I think we need to learn more about the syringe, and the best way to do that is to go through with the vatmothers' quest. Even if we lose this syringe, we might get another one later, or something even better. Besides, vatmothers are masters of grafting and augumentation, getting on their good side would mean we could benefit from their mastery rather than relying on eating biogel and stapling looted augs to ourselves randomly.
>>
>>24239624

Someone speculated that the syringe actually allowed it's users to emit some sort of pheromones specific to the house of the syringe.

most reasonable thing to do is to find out exactly what it does. if it is worth so much to the vat mothers, imagine the value to ultros, or one of the guild leaders. While the goons of ultros are assholes so far, the ideal behind the united gangs was to change the status quo, and they seem to be against abusing the wallborn which is us, from what bits of conversation we picked up from javek and the bartender. unlike whoever the bartender was allied with, which gives me the impression that they juice little freaks.

Now there no doubt are groups of these runts that search trash piles and live in the alleys. They have a better value system because they work in a team and likely look out for one another. Little Mr Mypile was solitary and dumb. I'd like to see the disorganized order of a runt group, possibly even large enough to be called a swarm. All of them small and weak alone, but together....
>>
>>24240330
Now you've got me wanting to befriend a swarm such as that, to give us a safe place to hide. Only a big guild would invest the resources needed to deal with a runt-swarm, and only if we really pissed them off
>>
>>24240700
