It's early-spring as you look out over the usually barren Nevada, but a recent rainstorm had transformed the landscape into a galaxy of pastel-colored flowers and grasses. To some it would be beautiful to behold- but for you it just meant that your quary's dust trail would be almost non-existant. So instead of looking for the usually tell-tail sign of the opposing tank, you casually scan the horizon watching for movement that might betray a hopefully-unwary foe.

"Black Jack", the forty-six ton M26E1 Pershing heavy tank lay silent below you, aside from the quiet putter of the auxillery engine. Pulling the binoculars away from your eyes, intending to sink back into the turret, you just happen to catch a glimps of movement. Excitedly putting the binocs back to your face, you finally spot your opponent. "Contact! Ten'o'clock!" Dropping back into the turret and slamming the hatch shut. You immediately take control of the commander's turret override. "Rose, bringing you onto him! You shout into the intercomm as you press your face into scope and bring the turret around. "Rich, get the engine warmed up. Roy- load Ay-Pee." As you finally get the scope on the tank in front you, you get a pretty good look at it as it pushes itself over a low hill.

Long and low, with a boxy turret and distinctive all-around tracks, its immediately recognizable. "Late-model Churchill. Range about..." You do some quick mental calculus "...Nine-hundred yard. Got him?"

"Got him. It's long shot cold bore, should we wait for him to get a bit closer?" It's a valid concern, but a trade-off. You're hull-down below a small hill, but you're far from hidden. A shot now is sure to have the element of surprise. Waiting for the Churchill to get closer means they may spot you, and you'd prefer not to get into a shoot-out- while it's 75mm is dwarfed by Black Jack's 90mm main gun, it's deadly accurate at range and more than capable of scoring a lucky penetration.

"Take the shot, Rose." She's the best marksman you've ever met, if anyone can make a shot like this it's her.

"Got it." A few seconds later you can feel the turret move ever so slightly, the weight of the barrel shifting Black Jack's center of gravity as she makes fine, manual adjustments to bring the gun on target. You watch from the commander's scope as she moves the gun up to correct for distance and shifts the aim out in front of the still-moving Churchill. "Ready Ay-Pee, Roy" She remarks quietly to her twin brother in the loading seat beside her. "Firing."

The baited, Red October-esque silence is shattered as the Black Jack spoke, sending a 90mm shell arching across the desert, the travel distance so long that you can visibly see it moving through the air before it impacts in the dirt just below and in front of the Churchill. "Miss! Correct up 4 degrees, left six degrees. Fire when ready." Before you even complete the sentence you hear the clank as the casing is ejected to the floor of the turret.

Meanwhile, as you peer through the telescope at your adversary, you see him come to a stop before rotating his turret to face you. The gun elevates until you swear you can almost see the 75mm round at the other end of it.

"You think he saw us? I think he saw us." You hear your radioman, Patrick O'Leary, remark dryly over the intercomm.

Currently everyone is jizzing over E-100 and T57 combo that won the recent tournament. 750 gold round damage with that 1600 damage-capable drum both with decent armor. Even on the low end of damage, it'll remove a typical 10 that isn't a 2500-3k hitpoint tank.

Speaking of Girls and Panzer, I had a weird dream this morning. Girls and Panzer related. Sort of.

Like all of the tanks + girls were hiding out behind this huge wall in an old city or something and the sun was setting. We had like, 2-3 squads of GM Quels and other grunt suits like Jegans hiding out, crouched to get under the cover of the walls. We were prepping for battle. And for one big push.

And I was like, "Make sure we have someone manning the Anti-Mobile Suit sniper cannon and another one on the beam sniper rifle"

And then everyone did the power walk. In tanks and mechs. TO OUR DESTINY.

The Power Walk, man. Dat slo-mo unflinching power walk.

T57, T110E5, T110E4 are the top wanted US tanks. T92 will always have a spot in clan war. M48 Pat is a spotter and if played well, its higher than average Damage/Minute shines. Currently E50M and T62A are wanted more often. T62A mostly though, it has insane damage per minute ratio.

Batchat25t is a given. Everyone wants at least 1-7 bat chats for their strategies in larger maps.

"Paddy, if you've got all the time in the world down there to mouth off-" You begin as you watch the Churchill's barrel flash. "BRACE!" You watch as the round zips towards Black Jack's turret, but windage causes it to drift slightly off-target- a problem your heavier 90mm round didn't have. You resume your previous statement. "Perhaps you'd like to man that goddamn Fifty-cal and be an actual, useful member of the crew."

Your words are strained as you watch Rose move the barrel to what you hope is the correct position. Almost on queue as soon as the barrel stops moving you here Roy shout "Up!" to signify a round was loaded and ready in the chamber. It's still a long shot, even with corrections- maybe you should have Rich, your driver, try to move Black Jack to a closer position- You see a stand of rocks about thirty yards to your front- they're just high enough to hull down behind, but you'd be out in the open for several seconds getting there- long enough for the Churchill to get two or three shots off at you.

The AMX 13 75 is pretty fun, but in the few games I've played it I prefer the T71. Mostly has to do with it not having a horrendous vertical traverse. And I'll have to save up for the 40/43, I just spent most of my money on the T71.

>>24211869

I honestly didn't find it that bad. Just don't play like a tank, play like a TD. It has more fire power and front armor than most Tier 4 meds. That said, it has less armor and/or firepower than most ACTUAL TDs in the same tier, but it makes up for it by having fairly good mobility. Stay put and shoot when you can pen them from the front, but if you can't, try to get an angle on their sides or rear.
>>
"Rich, when Rose fires how fast can you get down to those rocks?" You ask with a bit more calm confidence that you would've thought you could muster. Something about being in command of a near-fifty ton steel behemoth tended to bring out your inner Chuck Yeager.

Another 75mm shell impacts the hill a few dozen yards to your left before your driver responds matching your calm, confident demeanor. "Pretty damn quick. They might get a shot or two off, but their gunner doesn't look like he knows what he's doing." It's true that the Churchill's gunner isn't exactly gifted with a marksman's touch- but that won't stop a lucky shot. Still, getting to the cover will give Rose a flatter trajectory on the enemy tank.

"Make it happen. Rose: Fire."

The turret explodes with sound as the 90mm reports, you watch as the round arches out and impacts the Churchill along the top of one of it's armored track-wells. The round deflects upward, the force rocking the entire British tank downwards. "Go, Richard! Go!"

Black Jack's engine roars as it climbs over the hill before tipping down against and racing down the hill. The tank is shaking and moving too much to get a decent look at what the Churchill's doing, but you hear another 75mm round impact the hill- Rose's bounce had either thrown off their gunner's aim, frayed his nerves, or both. Another shot lands closer before Rich coasts the tank to a halt behind the rock. Once Black Jack stops rocking you're able to reaquire the Churchill in your periscope before bringing the the turret back around to face it. "Target front! 750 yards!" You're not that much closer, but

"Up!" Roy sounds.

"Fire!"

For the third time Black Jack's gun sounds. You watch as the round lances out and impacts squarely on the Churchill's right track-well, blasting through the armor and severing the track beneath- the Churchill wasn't down, but it was hamstrung and almost completely immobilized. "Hit! Roy, HVAP!"

"Up!" Roy sounds a few second later.

"Fire!"

M3 Lee is one of the few tanks I got my best kill count in (9). Treat it like a tank destroyer, but don't try to hide with it. Peek around objects with it, mostly buildings and rocks. Peeking either way as long as it angles your armor.

Good thing about M3 Lee is that it trains you for the later tanks. Side armor for late US tanks are soft, and angling the front armor is key.

The top gun for M3 Lee with gun rammer, 100% crew, and vents will push its gun over 2000 damage per minute. Tank destroyers run about 1400 at tier 4, unless they're firing 105mm with HE/Heat.

You get medium tank hitpoints with a "tank destroyer".
>>
>>24212178
Nah. Just makes your tank incapacitated.
>>
>>24212178
Nope.
Handwavium lining on the tanks, plus league-approved shells designed not to actually penetrate, and a bunch of other elaborate shit that only really gets explained in the manga. Suffice to say that "kills" are not literal kills.
>>
>>24212178

>>
>>24212265

>>
>>24212265
I think the manga focuses more on Miho as its Heroine than Yukari... or the other way around, not sure.
>>
>>24212288
I think it's the other way around, that is, the manga came before the show.
>>
where can I watch this show anyway?
>>
the general concept is that a little white flag pops up when the tank has sustained 'Critical/Lethal Damage', as in during real combat situations either the tank would have been scrapped or the crew killed, or a combination of the two.

If the tracks get damaged, they can be field repaired, meaning that an immobilized tank can still continue fighting... I believe this also applies to the turret ring... there was one bit where the rotation mechanism was damaged, but the tank still operable...
>>
>>24212300
Nope. The manga entered publication a few weeks before the show aired, but it's based on the show. That's not a very common arrangement but it does happen. Only other example I can think of off the top of my head is Evangelion.
>>
Time slows as you watch Black Jack's third round float lazily through the air before arching downward to strike the Churchill almost precisely where Rose had aimed. The Churchill bounces downward, the force of the impact knocking it back. It was silent before a series of blue flares fired through a port on top of the turret.

A smile spreads across your face. "GOT HIM! NICE SHOT!" You can't help but yell, forgetting that the turret's interior not only didn't require that kind of volume, but had a tendency to amplify it. Looking down you see Rose moving her jaw while she massages her ear.

You hear Patrick over the comm. "Judge is confirming it. Kill is clean; the round is ours." He reports. "And I didn't even get to shoot my machinegun..." He remarks with false lament.

"Patrick, you're doing that talking thing again with your mouth. Stop it."

Two hours later you're back at the large parking lot/campground just Reno. The tournement was small and largely for charity- the entire festival was put together yearly by the Reno Armored Warfare Museum and Restoration Facility- it tended to attract the small number of students who still practiced Tanking for a short tournement, while enthusiasts from across the western United States brought their reconditioned or kit-built armored vehicles. It wasn't large, but it was still a hub of what had been at one time a hobby as American as baseball and apple pie.

Over the decades interest was lost in tanking- it had almost died out completely in the 1973 Oil Crisis, when the fuel required had shot up in price- it could still costs upwards of three-hundred dollars in fuel to operate a tank for only a few hours, not to mention the cost of ammunition, repairs, transport and safety modifications. It had taken an act of Congress to set aside funds to help with the costs and maintain the military's most consistent source of skilled armored vehicle operators.

But all this was pretty far from your mind as you attempt to fit your entire mouth around a large and overpriced chili dog. Looking around, you could easily find most of your crew- Roy and Patrick were in line for corndogs, Richard was nursing what seemed to be a small keg of soda while scanning the crowd for attractive women and Rose...

You look around a second before spot her underneath a tent speaking to a woman you've never seen before. The woman is tall for an asian, and despite her business-like attire her posture and short, bobbed haircut screamed "military officer".

Dammit- you'd heard of this happening. Some young tanker shows a bit of talent and the military swoops in to recruit them for some JROTC academy that fed straight into the the Armored Corps.

Rose knows better than to break up the team, even if she's probably the best at her job on it. The fact that her twin brother Roy would be left out in the cold inforces this idea in your head- she might leave you and Rich and Pat out to dry, but her and her brother were as close as, well, twins. So you watch, casually glancing over every few seconds. You can't quite make out what the woman is saying, and Rose isn't facing you, but you see her head nod every so often.

"Who's the broad in the suit?" You had been so intent on watching the unfolding conversation that you hadn't noticed your grandfather pull into the seat next to you. You turn to look at him finishing a mouthful of chili dog with a gulp of Coke.

"Military recruiter is my guess. Probably thinks that Rose'll jump at the chance to go to some two-bit military academy." You try to grin non-chalantly. "Not a chance in hell."

Grandpa seems to only half-hear your statement as he stares at the military woman, but his eyes definately aren't on her face. "Oh come on! She's young enough to be your daughter!" You say with exasperation. "Maybe even your grandaughter!"

"That's the nice thing about them Jap women- they stop aging at about sixteen and stay that way until they're fifty!" He says enthusiastically. Right on time, Rose turns around and meets your eye and nods you over.

"Stay here and try not to stare a hole through her blouse, would you?" You say getting up.

"Believe me, I've already tried."

You wipe the chilidog from your mouth and take a final swig before standing up to approach your gunner and the... interloper. "Afternoon. Can my gunner or I help you with something today?" You ask the tall, dark haired temptress.

"Ah, then your are this young woman's commander?" She says with a short, polite bow of the head. Her English is pretty good, but it's obvious she's not a native speaker. And while the Army and Marines were always hungry for bright young tankers, you're pretty sure you've never heard of foreign militaries recruiting out of America. "She's had nothing but praise for you, and I'm sure you are proud to have such a skilled gunner among your crew."

"Very proud, Ma'am. But I don't believe I caught your name..." You say casually, trying not to give up how off-guard this situation has you.

"Oh, how rude of me. I am Captain Ami Chono of the Japanese Ground Self Defense Forces." She offers her hand to be shook and you accept, introducing yourself in turn. "You command quite the powerful and relatively rare machine..." She continues.

"It's a family heirloom." You say flatly. "Captain Chono, I'm quite aware of my gunner's skill..." You add just a bit of emphasis on the 'my'... "...but I wasn't aware that the Japanese were recruiting foreign nationals, especially high schoolers." For a moment the woman seems taken aback, studying you intently before releasing a hardy laugh. "I'm afraid you misunderstand, young man. I was hoping to purchase your tank."

You take a good five seconds to mentally compose yourself and, through force of will, prevent yourself from telling this Ami Chono off with every colorful word you've ever heard your grandfather say. "Ma'am, allow me to be blunt. Black Jack got my grandfather over there through Korea. If not for that tank I likely wouldn't be standing here talking to you. So believe me when I say you'd crash your little island's economy before you scraped together enough yen to put my tank on display in whatever little war museum you've got over there."

As your tirade comes to an end, you notice that she's still looking at you with that intent, piercing stare, but then it's gone again. "Oh, I assure you that Black Jack would be put to far better use than a museum piece." The light finally comes on in the back of your skull. There only a few places where tank-based sports were still popular, and Japan was one of them, though for some reason it had evolved into a largely feminine activity in their culture.

"Point still stands. I ain't letting you take Black Jack and put a bunch of schoolgirls in him, just so you can show some other school you've got the bigger gun. No deal. I'm keeping Black Jack and there isn't any amount of money you can bring to the table to change that."

She looks at you for a few seconds longer before frowning. "I see. Would you excuse me for just a moment?" She walks away and pulls out a cellphone.

"I don't think you had to shut her down that hard." She tells as you start walking back to the table.

You let your anger slip. "Black Jack's practically a member of my family, Rose. We abandoned him once, I ain't doing that again."

"It's a lot of money though! How much does our school spend keeping that machine moving and shooting. Five hundred dollars for a tank of gas. A hundred and fifty dollars per round fired. Sure the government helps out but for what?"

You sit down angrily. "Because... Because it's my family's tank and I say we're not selling him."

"Listen to yourself, would you? The kind of money you could get for our tank would put every one of us through college with plenty left over. Not to mention not having to have half the town blowing money to sponsor us." You look over at the Chono, talking into her phone and catch her eye. You drill into her skull with every ounce of steel that you can muster and she glances away, asking something before turning away again.

You take a breath and cool yourself down. "Rose, you're a hell of a gunner and probably the one person I'd trust on something like this, but believe me when I say I would be selling my ass before I sold 'Jack. It isn't even up for discussion and I would appreciate it if you kept this entire thing about selling him between us." She knows you well enough to see that you aren't going to budge on the issue and deflates.

"You know she wanted to recruit me too?" Rose tells you. "Said I was one of the best she's seen. That I already knew that gun better than anyone."

"Figured as much. Though I figured it was for some military academy- for what it's worth I don't think you'd look right in a Sailor Moon get-up." You smile wryly.

"...I will hurt you."

"Though I don't think Rich'd mind. He'd probably sell Black Jack just for the pictures."

"Seriously, I'm going to start hitting you and I'm just not sure if I'm gonna stop." Before you have a chance to see just how far you can push the issue without having actual violence visited upon you, you notice Chono giving a final nod and closing her phone before walking towards your table.

It's true, JFC Fuller and Liddell Hart did write the book, but it was Hobart who acted on them.

They may have had an actual prototype by then, so yes, if they allow prototype tanks in late WW2 the only viable option in High-School league would be to spam nothing but T54s, what with it being able to outclass most anything in the same era and common enough to procure in large numbers.
>>
>>24215851
>And that he was awesome for invented it.

that he was, but using that as a large part of your argument for why he should be considered as the guy who invented successful tank warfare doctrine is not the greatest of plans considering tanks do many other things much better and more important.

my point is that comparing the invention of flamethrower tanks to the invention and correct application of maneuver warfare and combined arms strategies is not all that brilliant

As Chono returns you force yourself to keep your temper down, but that doesn't stop you from giving her a good hard glare. "Can I help you?" You say with an edge so sharp it could cut leather.

"I believe I might have underestimated the..." She stops and searches for a word. "...the bond you share with your machine. Allow me to apologize if I offended you with my offer. I did not know that it meant that much to your family." She bows her head with her apology. "May I have a seat with you?"

You look at her for a second, and decide to give her a chance. "Go ahead," you respond politely.

"You might be aware that I originally came here not just to acquire your Pershing, but to recruit your gunner. I am here representing Ooarai High School's Senshado program. As I said, I came here to recruit your gunner, but she refused to leave the rest of her crew, and since she will not leave your crew, and you will not leave the Pershing, I believe that it would be best to invite your gunner, yourself and the rest of your crew to attent Ooarai High School." Her speech finished, she sits and waits for your response.

You open your mouth.

You close your mouth.

You think of something to say and then lose it.

"I can assure you that this would be a very rare and unique experience." She continues after it's obvious that you aren't capable of rational speech. "It is not often that foreigners are recruited for Japanese Senshado, but I believe that your crew would be of great use to the school, and you would have the opportunity to train with and compete against some of the best in the world."

I'm waiting and seeing how they actually are instead of blindly making myself look like a dumbass.

Odds are it'll be some redhaired tsundere or whatever girl throws themselves at anon first. Just ask Minna and Katya.

That and i doubt there'll be much subtext remaining in this if any considering the author is a SWQ fan.

With the addition of a Pershing, Ooarai's lineup is gonna be pretty solid. Already, they have

Team Anglerfish: PzIV Ausf. II
Team Hippo: StuG III
Team Turtle: Type 38 (t)
Team Rabbit: M3 Lee
Team Anteater: Type 3 Chi-Nu
Team Leopon: Porsche Tiger
Team Duck: Char B1

Combined with Miho's TACTICAL GENIUS, Ooarai is gonna one tough team to beat.

Also, just what animal will our team take? Team Eagle? Team Possum? Team Moose?
>>
>>24216633

The Lee might be gone, as with the, um...well, I think the Lee should definitely be gone by this time. Maybe the Chi-Nu? What other 6-crew tanks besides the Lee were available during WW2?

>>24216808

Noted. Here's the updated roster:

Team Anglerfish: PzIV Ausf. II
Team Hippo: StuG III
Team Turtle: Hetzer
Team Rabbit: M3 Lee
Team Anteater: Type 3 Chi-Nu
Team Leopon: Porsche Tiger
Team Duck: Char B1

And, with our addition:

Team Eagle (which is apparently the most popular name): M26 Pershing

With an 8-tank team, I think we're rivaling the numbers of St. Gloriana, if not Saunders, with lots of firepower to boot. This only makes me wonder what the other teams will have. What are the chances of Pravda now having IS3's, or Saunders using Easy 8 or Jumbo Shermans?

Also, just realized that Team Duck and Team Mallard are separate from each other, with Team Mallard using the Char B1, and Team Duck using the Type 89B.

Instead of 8 tanks, that brings the potential roster number up to 9. Still quite the versatile lineup, still able to toss out a lot of steel, still one of the crazier teams, what with the Student Council's shootiness--or lack thereof, depending on who is playing gunner and who is playing loader--and Team Duck's GUTS.

We're trying to represent for MURRICA here--well, try to represent more than Saunders already does, anyway. Turkeys, as great as they are, just aren't as majestic or recognizable as a crying bald eagle when emblazoned on the side of a tank's turret. That all being said, I do think that the turkey would make a good second choice, with maybe the possum in third.
