You all know what time it is, so let's not waste any more time than we have to! I have a gamon steak on the grill; a head full of evil plans; and a thread. All I need now are you platers!

You are the Long Fangs tribe, a primitive tribe of peoples on the cusp of the Bronze Age. With the assistance of your heroes and the guidance of your gods, it falls to you to guide your people through the ages, steering them through good times and bad, towards their eventual, far-off destiny. Do you think you are up to the task? Can you (to steal a phrase) build a civilization to stand the test of time?

Previous thread is here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24149618/

B. Derrik with the hunt, Rina with the fish.

E. As part of finishing up our apiary research, have some tribesmen use our new found knowledge to collect a hive and begin making dat honey.

H. Load up a wagon of supplies, furs and a few other trade goods with a few guards down to the spray folk to trade. Also send a a couple rafts and coracles down the river as well in case the land route becomes somewhat difficult to pass.

If need be, stop in to trade for some food from the River Bros.
>>
Running late guys, mý boss is making me stay late at work, will be with you asap. Love jackov.
>>
>>24190617
this but swipe the honey with stone walls
>>
>>24190645
We just recently had a breakthrough on the stone wall and switched to building an apiary since we won't lose any forward progress in masonry.

Another breakthrough would probably be another several turns away on that front but apiary can be finished within the new two turns if not this turn itself. And besides, a new source of food can't be a bad thing.
>>
>>24190617
Seconding this, but send the new priestess of Hrunti for the hunt as well.

>>24190695
>>24190645
Also waxworking and honey products could prove beneficial in trading.
>>
>>24190932
Ditto. I can't remember the new Priestesses name so I keep forgetting to add her into the hunt.. Ah well.
>>
>>24190617
Rina and Derrik both see to their respective areas; the river and the forest, aiding the tribe's fishermen and hunters and ensuring a bountiful haul.

The tribe is EXTREMELY reluctant to mess around with the bees any more than is needed, but a small handful of the Tillersfane are found who are agreeable to the idea of risking repeatedly being stung. The three individuals in question actually discover the smoke is at least mostly effective and the full-body clothing helps the rest. The sedated bees are tipped into the wicker hives and places a goodly distance from the village, for fear of the insects being angry when they recover. Despite some initial scepticism about the wisdom of beekeeping, nearly everyone in the village instantly shuts up when the honeycomb from the old hives is delivered and rapidly becomes a favourite food, if in short supply as yet.

A wagon is considered for the trip to the Spray Folk, but given that previous expeditions failed to even reach the city, the idea is quickly discarded. On the other hand, a raft and a few coracles seems a much more acceptable idea.
>What supplies will the trading party load?
>There, I stopped you losing supplies to send a cart off pointlessly. Aren't I nice?
>>
>>24191392
Obviously bring the furs they are interested in, trinkets and... well.

I'd like to trade some honey or wax, but we obviously don't have enough yet. Is bringing them a sample for finding out their interest in it a good or bad idea?
>>
>>24191392
Obviously them furs. Fox, beaver, deer and such.

We still produce musical instruments and trinkets even if they are considered "adorably quaint" by the Spray Folks so they still might fetch a small trade somewhere.

But mostly furs.

Ref said last time that we had a bear pelt and I'd like to believe him on that so I'd like our villagers to give that to the Bronze Smith who recently left.

And while there, perhaps our people could try and find out about this new material and maybe where we could procure more on our own from him.

If not, any information about enhancing our farming techniques and such would be excellent.
>>
>>24191392
Any furs we have, as well as trinkets, I think we should visit the earth smashers on our way and give them a few trinkets as a tribute.

>>24191488
I think we shouldn't tell them about the honey, instead we should simply ask if they know about bees, in a off hand way, eg,'Yellow and black animal sting me. Is annoying.' Just to see how they react, if they know about honey then that's fine, but if they don't we are going to be able to set and price we like on it next visit.
>>
>>24191556
>I think we should visit the earth smashers on our way and give them a few trinkets as a tribute.
I think we should dedicate a full expedition to them, not just stop by and give them some of our admittedly shitty trinkets.

>we should simply ask if they know about bees, in a off hand way,
Can agree on that. Indeed no need to spill our possible trump cards.
>>
>>24191604
Sorted then.
>>
>>24191556
The expedition takes plenty of food to keep everyone alive, as they leave downstream, the raft and coracles heavy with the various furs and a few trinkets from the village, mostly bone and copper jewellery.

The traders head downstream easily, quickly passing the River Brothers village and journeying on, through the long-neglected pine forest. It has been a long time since the tribe mounted an expedition so far from home and many of the Long Fangs first long-distance traders are nervous about leaving their families so far behind. Emerging from the shadow the pine forests, the traders pass by the Earthsplitter village, as the river widens out. The estranged tribe looks to have prospered somewhat, their fields being large and expansive and a strong, wooden palisade standing atop and earthen ditch and rampart, surrounding their village.

Food starts to run somewhat low, as the traders press on, but they are emboldened by the fact that the Spray Folk can manage it themselves, so they must be able to! Pushing on, they finally catch the first sight of the Spray Folk village and an unfamiliar scent is suddenly blown into their faces, fresh and tangy and strangely free. The first smell of salt instantly raises the spirits of many of the expedition.
>cont.
>>
>>24192528
The village is even more extensive than the Lang Fangs, or the River Brothers at their height, though composed of only a few more people. The bulk of the village itself is on the bank of the river, ringed off by a ditch and rampart, a wooden palisade at its top. Jutting into the river are several wooden walkways, against which, the familiar boats are moored. Most impressively, beyond the village, there reaches a HUGE body of water, the likes of which, the Long Fangs have never seen before! The expanse is so vast, that the other side is not even visible to the eyes of the slack-jawed Long Fangs!

Once they have got over their awe, the travellers pull up to the shore and elect to set up a small camp just outside the walls, spreading their goods out for viewing, the same way the Spray Folk did when they visited.

Spray Folk village:
Sells - Bronze tools; fine pottery; crude silverwear; silver; bronze; cloth; rough wine

Goods on hand to trade:
20 furs
15 Bone jewellery
5 Copper jewellery

>Select goods to trade for and a roll will be made to determine the goods lost and acquired

Also, the traders may take one of the following actions:
A) Spy on a secret (specify)
B) Investigate the village
C) Gossip with the locals
D) Try to meet someone in authority
>>
>>24192722
I don't really care what we trade for, but I suggest as our action we gossip with the locals, it will give us the chance to find out anything of interest that is going on, and we should drop the questions about honey.
>>
>>24192800
This is me.
>>
>>24192722
Trade errything

C) Meanwhile, talk with the locals. Gossip always leads to something interesting. We should try and learn about their gods and boats above all else.
>>
>>24192800
>>24192722
Brit, could we also get some idea of how advanced the Spray are in terms of society, thank you.
>>
Could you also tell me whether or not we had that bear pelt that Refrek thought we had.

Giving that to the bronze smith would be a fantastic gift idea and might help us with our bronzeless problem
>>
>>24192889
I like this idea.
>>
>>24192889
Seconding this. Visiting the bronze smith was one of the main reasons for this trade expedition in the first place.
>>
>>24192865
From what the traders can observe, they are not terribly dissimilar, in terms of 'refinement' to the Long Fangs. Finer clothes, dyed various (weak) colours, seem to be commonplace among them and copper jewellery is displayed readily. Their homes look neater than the Long Fangs, but not altogether less sturdy, though they do sport thatch roofs, rather than turf, as the tribe does. Other than that, there is little that can be observed about them.

>You guys still need to select what you want to BUY from the Spray Folk. Naturally, everything you brought is on sale, but what in particular do you want to get in return?
>Still counting votes for the other action.
>>
>>24193071
Does visiting and gifting the smith count as an action?

Also, can we try and trade for knowledge with what little we have?

If not I'd say go full on bronze tools with perhaps some cloth and samples of their wine.
>>
>>24193071
Thank you Brit.

Trade everything we have, and buy some bronze as well as silver. If we are gonna make Trym our chief lets at least build him a silver ring to pass down when he dies.
>>
>>24193071
Seeing as how we no supply of tin, or ever how to make bronze, we should get as many broze tools as we can.
>>
>>24192722
I know it seems kind of random, but fine pottery might not be a bad idea. We don't really have much cultural development in terms of trinkets and trophies and such, so it could probably help us exponentially should we ever feel the need to spend a turn or two trying to advance that. And it would probably sell the cheapest, we may even be able to get a lot of it, and share it with the neighbors as fancy gifts. Whaddaya think?
>>
>>24193129
Hm. It sounds somewhat reasonable, but I'd rather buy small samples of their shiny stuff and try to remake it at home, and use our trade potential for bronze tools, as that will help us in pretty much any respect.
>>
>>24192722
Trade for Bronze tools and Cloth. We need not eating utensils and we can gather berries for liquor this coming turn. Plus we make our own pottery.

Gift that bear pelt to the bronze smith and see if he may share some secret as to where we can find that new material we found in his hut.
>>
>>24193120
No, visiting and gifting the smith is a free action. I'll be nice.
>>
Alright, I'm posting it now so that we won't forget.

And idea to keep theme with my "priests need a role".

This winter, we need to throw a festival. It will be a time to remember the bad and the hard times, and a time to help people with their struggles. A time of charity and gift giving. This festival will be for Khoine, and also for the fallen Prince Svell. In recognition of how Khoine came to our tribe, gifts will be given throughout the days of the celebration just as Micky gifted the goddess of snow with the neckless of Ermetha. Those who wish to take up Khoine's cause will become the charitable helpers, custodians of the weak and downtrodden, helping people in their time of need.

Also, in this same spirit, it would be wise to reconcile things with the Earthsplitters and River Brothers
>>
>>24193165
This, but can we please get some silver to make a ring for the chief.
>>
>>24193167
Alright then.

C. Gossip with the locals. The more we can find out without tipping off the authorities by acting suspicious the better. Idle conversation never hurt anybody, right?

>Loose lips sink ships.
>>
>>24193181
Whoops, phone ate my trip
>>
>>24193181
Seconding my own idea. This will help our inter-tribal relations a whole lot.
>>
>>24193186
Agreed. I'd rather not snoop around their village, that could only go wrong.
C)

>>24193165
Why not try and aquire small samples of at least the pottery so it might give us a boost if we tried to improve our own?
Otherwise seconded.

>>24193181
Yes indeed.
>>
>>24193165
Don't trade for the cloth, trade for the Flax, that way we can make our own.
>>
>>24193181
The Longfang Christmas Special: A Very Khoine Christmas
>>
>>24193286
We don't have the required machinery to turn the flax into cloth, however.
>>
>>24193332
Te people who lived with the Spray Folk should know enough about how to do it though, Britfag said so last thread.
>>
>>24193349
I am finally here!
>>
>>24193323
And, with the help of Yeneth, it will be a very white Christmas.
>>
>>24193349
Indeed, and the people who lived with them know where to find flax as britfag also said last turn.

That concluded, we know where to get flax and how to create the stuff required to make it. Why trade for it?

I only put cloth in there because I assumed it was dyed and we do not know how to dye things yet.
>>
>>24193392
How much flax do we have around our village though?
>>
>>24193386
That's lewd.
>>
>>24193426
No idea. We've never looked.
>>
>>24193430
Oh yes.
>>
>>24193426
We didn't know to look for it. We can do so now though.
>>
The traders show a surprising degree of acumen, drawing upon their experience with the Spray Folk themselves, the traders get a surprisingly good deal. All but 4 units of the furs are sold and in exchange, the tribe gains 20 units of bronze and 8 of silver. The metals take the form of fairly even bars, each three knuckles long, by two wide and one deep.
>One bar is not one unit, just to note

Some of the traders pay a visit to the bronze-smith who stayed with the tribe for so long, gifting him the bear pelt as a belated parting present. The smith is over-joyed with the gift and is more than eager to speak with the traders a long time. Speaking together, they learn much of the Spray Folk, including several aspects of their food. Apparently, the smith greatly missed his people's 'bread' and 'salt' while he was staying with the Long Fangs and he invites his guests to sample some. Both are met with a great deal of approval by the traders!
>The tribe may now trade for foodstuffs and salt on their next trip.

After they have loaded up the rafts, the traders depart home with their bounty. Though most are happy to be home, many of them have acquired something of a taste for travel!

That's what the new planned Priesthood to Khione is supposed to help bring about, actually. We're viewed as a warlike tribe and not entirely too well loved. With the annual salmon run, Rina is again called upon to assist the village. Thanks to her blessings, the smoke house is soon filled with plenty of fish, being stored for the harsh, winter months to come.

The wise ones return to trying to figure out a way to work stone more efficiently, but their progress seems to have almost hit a standstill. Without decent tools for the job, there is only so much they can do! Progress continues, but it is slow.

The scouts of the village are sent out, into the forest, with one specific order: Hunt down blue flowers, like the ones the Strangers tended in the Spray Folk village; and and bring them back.

The Tillersfane family spend this moon bringing in the harvest.
