You are Ssen, a Lamia raised by a human Paladin who adopted you after killing the ones who birthed you. You are grown now, and Father has passed on. After a great deal of work, you have become a Paladin like your Father, and now take up his duties.

You are accompanied by your best friend from childhood, the insect druid Tricia; Mage, a magic user who ran away from his family of cannibal raiders known as the Ghouls (Yes, his name is Mage. It was his idea); Persephone, a 22-year old thief/ex-guerllia fighter (She goes by Peri), and Mari, a 13-year old prodigy scholar/now sniper, who has her mind and soul trapped within Peri's body; and Lea, a deeply religious musician/martial artist, trained by her father, a famous trainer for arena fighters, she's covered from her mouth down in bandages to hide the horrific state her body has become thanks to the 'cures' that saved her from cancer.

Your journey continues...

Your talk with Tallow was illuminating, for both of you. Turns out that your father's oracle was able to speak to the Fifth because when he wasn't consumed with clinical depression, he consumed copious amounts of drugs. Your presence and spurring has galvanized him to at least get out of his therapy bath, and back into the fight. He also advised you about how the Lantern Coins are 'wrong.' Somehow, they've been corrupted, but that was all he was able to understand from the unfortunately vague visions the Fifth granted him.

There was a brief interlude with Robin goodfellow. He's been hired to kidnap you and bring you before Queen Mab. Apparently the Queen believes that she is the same Queen Mab, reincarnated, and that the Paladin Serpent knows something about the disappearance of Princess Thistledown, who vanished during the First Age of Citadel. Goodfellow, of course, knows that he has a better chance capturing a rampaging manticore than kidnapping you, so he made some polite conversation, some offers were made and declined, and he and his two partners in crime went on their merry way.

You also met up with Crazy Ted, who wasn't exactly what you expected. Short, wears a stupid fur hat, and his collection of trophies are other people's kills. He's just a taxidermist, along with being a boar and dragon hunter. It also seems that he doesn't plan on killing Old One, but rather that he just wants to see it. Also, for some unknown reason, he can understand and speak the tongue of the dragons. A language only, you, Granny, and the sane lizard people of Stone Hall know.

After a slightly uncomfortable/VERY comfortable night shedding with Tricia's help, you have collected the newly remade Beacon and Clang, and are following Theodore Katushka out onto his boar hunting trails on your way to the Bear Shrine.

WOO! Lamia time!

Damn you Echo, just when I'm going to bed!

The charms that Ted gave you are doing the trick. You aren't cold that you feel your teeth chatter involuntarily, your insides grow cold or have uncontrollable shivering. But it's still utterly, miserably, stupidly cold, wet, damp, and your new scales are just getting filthy with the snow and mud.

"So, let's see..." Ted looks at the ground. "We're in luck, it stopped snowing and looks like it's not going to snow for a few days." He points at the clear skies. "Course, knock on wood, right?" He raps on his head. "Anyway, you said you were a hunter and tracker back at your little home village, right? You ever do snow hunting?"

A little, yeah, but mostly you didn't go outside when it snowed. Cause it was snow.

"I think I've got some boar tracks to follow, but I never say no to some extra eyes." He smiles at you. "You in?"
>>
Hooray, echo is back!

I've said it before, they may not be cartography-as-art like you'd find in the front of a fantasy novel, but they *are* the kind of on-the-ground useful map an adventurer would draw for themselves while adventuring, and that's what we care about here.

Your world map (and Echo's OK of it) really gave this world much more concrete spatial relations, made it feel more real, and helped us get oriented.

>>24116650
>I like to think I am pretty quiet

On fresh snowpack, feet crunch through snow making a decent amount of noise; spreading weight across a broader surface and moving with a continuous slither seems likely to make much less noise.

Downside: like a snowplow, you'll have more effort required to move as snow builds up in front, since you need enough force to move it aside rather than stepping over it.
>>
>>24117133
"Ah, I've found something. This way, I believe. Look for more visible signs. Also it smells like orange oil."

Ted nods at the way you point. "I thought I saw something that way...oranges though?" He shrugs as you all hike your way through the snow. "That's strange, there's some Frost Cherry trees that grow here and there, but Oranges are grown in Stone Hall or in the Sunrise Isles. (They're to the south and a little off of the East Coast, mostly jungle, no Tribes, there's some Citadel fishing villages and pirates.)

You keep walking, it's a truly beautiful sight, the mountains are gorgeous, a string of white caps and deep dark blues, purples, and silvers. The sky is clear and the sun is glorious. It's still too damn cold though.

Ted even points out the valley that starts the Dark Peaks, wow, they could not make a more foreboding looking black, the mountains are all jagged, there's fog choking the area, and you swear that the snow looks black.

"Okay, lets see if we can't find our succulent little friend." Ted says. He starts to scan the horizon.

Random thought: orange oil is a common natural method of pest control for certain types of pests.

Could we please keep an extra-close eye out for any kind of trap?
>>
>>24117374
Or not! Damn, I was hoping the dice would work with my joke.
>>
>>24117317
You've got the boar's trail with Ted's help. That orange thing has vanished though.

You head down to the lower cliffs on this range. The mountains here are covered with tunnels and small caves. The wind blows through them, almost making music with it.

"Impressive, isn't it?" Ted asks with a grin.

"I'd like it more if it weren't so cold." Tricia replies.
>>
>>24117443
Give Tricia a quick wrap-and-hug, purely for warmth of course. "Warmer now?"

Can we take a moment and take 10 for picking up the orange scent again? Not like we're in a rush.
>>
>>24117443
""I have to admit, it's quite the view. Though, being reminded how cold it is doesn't exactly help."

Then do that thing where shivers go up your spine and you're all Bbrrrrr before continuing on. I don't know how to adequately describe it, but I am sure you know what I am talking about.
>>
>>24117496
Well, we ARE at an intersection of all sorts of breezes. If we're finding it again, here would be as good a spot as any.
>>
>>24117496
You wrap and hug Tricia briefly. "Warmer now?"

"Thanks, but not now." She says, pushing you off.

You take a deep sniff and take your time looking around. You aren't bothering about the boar now, Ted's got that pretty well in hand. Taking your time, you without a doubt pick up that smell and twinge of oranges again. Of course, with all the winds and crossbreezes from all the different holes, you have NO solid idea on where it's coming from...but you can try at least.

Mage nods and looks at the others he holds up two fingers and points one forwards and one behind you.

The others stare in confusion. "What?" Peri asks.

Mage rolls his eyes and whispers in her ear. "Ohhhh," Peri does another set of hand gestures. Apparently Tricia and Lea get those.

"We can follow the boar down into the caves, or go up and see the Bear Shrine ascent." He suggests. As he says that he unhooks one of his axes at his side. He's actually asking you about where you want to go to deal with your 'friends.'

Everyone nods and Ted leads you down into the inside of the mountain, after a few turns and twists, it's clear that the orange-clay pair have been forced to follow behind you two as they can't get in front of you any more. They're following you closer now though.

After a moemnt, Ted stops, you're all inside one of the more open caverns. It's a oval-ish room that's about the size of a basketball court there are stone pillars of fused stalagmites and stalactites scattered about.

On the plus side, you've also found what is unquestionably the boar's nest. It's a big old beast of a thing. Good eatin'. It's sleeping in its little warren that's one of the holes in the walls.

On the down side, this place is a dead end.

<Best place we could hope for even footing.> Ted says. He chuckles. <So, I'm guessing we have a few minutes before our followers get enough courage to attack, so...go ahead and ask, Beautiful One.>

This.

Then spread out and prepare for ranged combat, using the stalagmites for cover. They're limestone so movies to the contrary they should be rather sturdy. Us, Mage and Mari prepare to focus fire on the choke point when whoever enters the room. (Assuming Ted doesn't have any ranged weapons) We'll have a brief window to identify them and/or strike first.
There's a chance it might be Robin's idiot underlings, if not could be someone worse.

>How large are the stalagmites? Anything we (or the smaller members of our party) could hide behind?

The stone fused pillars are big enough for the others to hide behind, not you or Mage.

>How large, well-positioned, and fragile are the stalactites? Anything we could drop on their likely entrance?

Mage can try like he did before in the Underwasp Queen lair. Remember how well THAT worked.

>Any other holes in the walls? Any of them us-sized?

Plenty, this place is swiss cheese nearly. You'll have to search for one that fits you though, and there's no way to turn around or see where they come out, or if they warp as you go further in.

Different kind of Dragon. Those worshipped the Dragon Who Was Of Shadow. Ted's of a Slave Race that was created through training, eugenics, and magic.

OK. Get everyone capable of fitting behind one using one for cover and prepared to snipe away. Mage and Ssen should back into some of the dark holes in the wall, close to the entrance. Dim all light sources to near-nothing, and have Ssen be prepared to use Beacon to blind them since they've adapted to the darkness.

All that said, don't attack until we see who or what they are.

Are we getting attacked by puppets or statues? I don't like how this is going if that is the case.
>>
>>24118789

Either those things at the entrance are wearing extremely insulated leg/arm armor, or they may be some type of flesh golem. Or floating limbless horrors that vomit lightning.
>>
>>24118789
Huh. Are lamias and nagas cold-blooded? (In which case maybe they're only keeping their upper bodies warm, and their lower bodies are snow-chilled?) That doesn't *feel* like the right answer here, though.

>>
>>24118861
True on all counts, but let's not have *that* conversation right at the moment. Right now, we just need to tell everyone to can it, prepare, and not get an itchy trigger finger on the off chance our luck isn't the usual and they're friendly.
>>
>>24118861
But he's also the one leading us around right now. If we want to snark him we can do it once we're safely back on a trail we know.
>>
So, wagers on what the heck is following us?

It's got body heat and porcelain and no limbs. I am thinking maybe some kind of golem-mechs piloted by cripples.
>>
>>24118885
The boar is alive, but sleeping very deeply, filled up on fungus and lichens. It's used to Ted's little 'incidents' in this cave, so unless you wake it directly it'll stay asleep.

>>24118862
"What fresh darkness is this? Something strange comes, fellows. We'll argue later." You say. <And let me make this clear, Theodore. They are NOT my servants, and no one /owes/ you respect!>

"Ssh!" Lea says.

"They came down here." A voice says.

You can see them more clearly now. Two people dressed in black robes, and they have blank white masks that just have eye holes in them.

"Are you sure?" The other says. Both voices are female. Also there's this strange clicking noise as they walk.

"Yes...I think." The first one says.

"You will be unloved if we fail."

"Please don't say such things. Anyway, we're the Shadow Sisters of fame and glory. We are always loved within the walls." The first says.

"We are only the Sisters until we fail. Then the Sisters become those who have not failed, and we become corpses." The second says. "Keep looking."

They're in perfect position. I mean it, they could not have picked a better spot to pause at.
>>

Arrow them. What do we roll?
>>
>>24119245

>>

>>
>>24119307
They're following us surreptitiously. We can talk to them *after* we make sure they can't hurt us. No sense losing our element of surprise.
>>
>>24119307
>Maybe we talk after capture.
This. Until we know they aren't going to attack us, whether because their intentions are benign or they're tied up, its too much of a risk to let them know we know they're here.
>>
>>24119245
Question before we attack: do they look familiar at all? Do they look like ghouls (and what ghouls look like to us in infrared)? Or like anything we've seen before? The cold-lower-body thing is strange.
>>
>>24119417
honestly I am worried about wrapping them. they're probably spiky as fuck under those robes.

But the chances of that are so low, it's just my paranoia. Hence why I suggested wrap in the first place.

>>
>>24119878
"How about what you wanted from us, then? Depending on what it is, we might or might not be agreeable."

"Again, we refuse to answer."

You take your Medallion and hold it up against the mask. The Sister tries to pull her head away from it. "Please cease with that action. It is upsetting." She's starting to breathe heavily.

"Yes...put...put those away." The other Sister says. "Now." She's flinching at the sight of the other Medallions and Lea in general. "This is upsetting."

<Why do I smell goat blood?> Ted asks.

You take off the sister's mask.

Well, now you know why you only saw the torsos and the heads of these two girls. Because they don't wipe their mouths after a meal, and they ate recently. Also you know why they wear masks and full coverings of black in the middle of the day. And you would have also known, had you visited the Goat Sanctuary, what had happened to the four missing goats, with one found drained completely of blood.

You have also found out that startingly beautiful vampires are crazy strong and can force their way out of your coils with astounding ease.

>>24120172
Good news, Ted's going for the vamps only, he wouldn't dare hurt a Beautiful One.

He goes in a choppin at the one who isn't constrained. He's using his axe with the silver coated edge. He assumes the other sister is the same as the first with the blood smeared mouth, and he smells blood. He's not stupid.

Tricia also swipes at the same vamp with her sickle. The amber sickle is magical in nature and life-based so it's good against undead.

The vamp that you have is trying to escape from you. She only needs an 13 or better to escape, due to the fact that she's a bloodsucker and recently fed.

>>

But my reality has hot vampire makeouts in it. Why would you want to leave?
>>
>>24120376
>>24120353
>>24120340
That's three (the first three, even) for firing up a glowing Beacon; we just need to agree on what spear action to take.

Constriction seems unhelpful; we want to take advantage of our agility since we don't have a strength advantage on them.

So: spear sweep plus tail attack.
>>
>>24120376
Just as a note, double attacks with your tail don't cause Beacon to gain points to its Light. Only single attacks with Beacon, damage, or blocks with Clang (I.E. hits that WOULD cause damage without Clang) cause Beacon to shine brighter.
>>
>>24120433
The attack from Beacon does, though, even though the secondary attack doesn't, right? So we might as well use the tail rather than leaving it idle. Unless using our tail at the same time reduces our accuracy with Beacon?
>>
>>24120428
Ssen/Tricia makeouts are much hotter. Evil isn't sexy, or haven't you heard? You're so outdated.
>>
>>24120433
So let me get this straight...
>Single attacks with Beacon
>Damaging with Beacon
>Blocking with Clang
These three give points to Light?

Regardless, I vote for a single attack with Beacon to build it up, we can start doubling up once we've got some bonuses going.
>>
>>24120465
No, that second one is damage to *us*.
>>
>>24120433
OK, I just reviewed our available attacks; changing my vote to an armor-piercing Beacon attack.
>>
>>24120444
No it's still +2, but a successful solo attack with Beacon gives you two points. Just so you know.
>>
>>24120430
spear and tail, sure.

Mage misses, and Ted staggers back as his face is now sporting some nasty claw marks.

Lea does her usual punch to the lungs to stun a person. Normally that wouldn't do anything, but when Lea pulls her fists away the Vampire is busy howling in pain and slightly smoking.

Ted snarls and tries to chop off the bitch's hand.

Tricia goes again to rip out a vampire's throat.

The vampire you and Lea are fighting is too busy trying to get accustomed to the pain of Lea's Holy Strike.

You swpie and you just barely miss slashing at the vamp, but something does happen with Beacon. The light seems to now be a bit brighter that it was before. Not dramatically, but noticable.

(That's one off of a hit. I'll give you one point to the Light.)

"You're outnumbered." You say. "Surrender and you can walk away from this."

"Again, we must decline." The Sister says. "Shadow Sisters never fail, are never defeated, and never die. That is the Truth, and Truth is Beauty."

Mage shoots another fireball.

The other Shadow Sister Vampire continues to try and kill Ted.

Peri goes out a slashing at the one you and Lea are fighting with Alchemically Enhanced blades that will hurt vampires. (Wolfsbane coating)

Lea attempts to kick the Vampire's chest hard enough to break a bone. (Lowers AC if connects)

Ted works all night and chops all day at the vampire.

Same with Tricia.

Your vampire tries to swipe at you.

Ted is not having a good day. That one got him square in the shoulder. There's a lot of blood dripping down his nice wooly shirt. He swings blindly but misses.

Mage is once more having trouble aiming...maybe you should get him glasses one day.

Peri didn't see a rock and stumbled to the ground faceplanting herself. "were okay!" They mumble.

Tricia connects nicely with her sickle right into the Sister's shoulder. She yanks it out with a clean pull and a triumphant HA!

You vamp tries to swpie at you, but you're faster than a regular human as well and easily dodge.

Bam, right in the side and you pull out clean as well, you see a lot of black blood drip out from that wound as the Vamp howls in pain.

Becaon's glow is now considerably brighter. There's enough light in here to make it look like the city of Bronze Peak.

The vampires are wincing a little and trying to not look at your spearhead.

Mage takes a breath and tries once more to set P/M and Lea's vamp on fire.

The vampire you stabbed has forgotten all about Tricia and lunges at you, arms aimed at your neck. "Stop it!" She shrieks. "Nothing is beautiful in all that light! Nothing!"

Peri gets back up and steadies herself.

Lea aims another rib-cracker kick to her Vampire.

Ted takes a moment to get out and drink a potion he had in his pack.

Tricia keeps doing what she does best.

The other Vampire tries to claw Lea.

"This...is...my...trick!" You gasp and shove Beacon into the vampire's stomach.

She screams and lets go of you as she pushes herself off of the spear.

Beacon is glowing like crazy, it's as bright as high noon on a cloudless day in the cave. Also, you notice that there's light coming off of Tricia and Peri/Mari's medallions, Mage's wristband, and Lea's shoulder where Gregory stitched in a Caligo Clarus star. The spear's honestly humming in your hand a little.

Mage frowns and fires a spell at the ceiling. "Wait for it!" He shouts.

The masked vampire tries to just attack you.

Peri does a double slash on the bare-faced one.

Lea goes for a straight punch to the face.

Ted downs another bottle from his pack.

Now the mask-less vampire WOULD have had her hands around Lea's neck, BUT seeing as that Lea just broke the bloodsucker's nose, cracked their jaw, and ruined about 400 gold worth of cosmetic surgery with one single smite of a punch, the vampire is a little stunned. Make that a LOT stunned. Ow.

1) Slam Beacon's end on the ground tip pointing up and bathe the area with His Light.
2) Point it at a Target and let Beacon shine upon them.

Three for the slam, okay.

This is not apparently the offensive move. This is a move that helps the party. Now, when Father did it, he was a protector, and a caretaker. He cared for Tallow and his people and the Order.

You are not. You are many many things, but you cannot deny that you are a Lamia. You are a predator a killer...but you also are a leader, and a true predator leader ensures that her pack is victorious.

Beacon opens up the room to His Light, and your companions, your friends, your lover, your family all succeed. How could they not, with you showing them the way?

Mage's spell works like a charm, his rock to mud at one spot causes a stalactite to fall and slam into the masked vamp's head.

Tricia then does a stab into the vamp's chest, twists her blade hard, and rips it out, taking the blackened lump that was her heart with it.

Lea kicks the other vampire in the chest dead on center that you can hear at least three ribs crack, and as she staggers back, Peri effortlessly does a blade twirl that severs her legs from her body, then Mari come up and fires a crossbow shot perfectly into both of her wrists that pins her to the wall.

Ted howls and covers his eyes at the amount of light that fills the room. But it doesn't seem to be bothering you five/six in the slightest.

Slowly it dims and Beacon's glow returns to normal. Everyone's symbols also stop glowing, and you feel...well for a moment you didn't feel like you were just a lamia, or a lamia trying to be a person, or even just Ssen. You were...a part of something greater, something that was at everyone's side showing them or helping them...and that felt wonderful...but now it's gone and you're back to being Ssen, and for once you are truly content with that.

(The Vamps were on their last HP each. It wont be as epic every time.)

Ted pushes himself against the wall of the cave. <What ARE you?!> He asks.

That explains why you deferred resolving everyone else's actions until we chose what to do. I take it that that move will cause everyone's current action to succeed (just succeed, or crit?) regardless of roll?

> Tricia then does a stab into the vamp's chest, twists her blade hard, and rips it out, taking the blackened lump that was her heart with it.

More ingredients for Mage.
>>
>>24122021
Still curious what effect the general glow on everyone else had, when Beacon hit 5. Would be good to know in the future, in case we'd rather have a sustained buff as a third option.
>>
>>24122087
Nononono. The boar has to sleep right through this whole fight. You can't wake this boar if your life depended on it.
>>
>>24122117
honestly, I prefer the sustained charge. S'badass. We should discharge only if we gotta.
>>
>>24122190
Depends on what we're trying to do. A sustained buff could be useful, depending on its effect, but a guaranteed success on a party's worth of actions is potentially battle-ending, as it was here. Especially if they're trying to do something unusual other than combat.

All three choices seem handy to have available. A mechanics discussion can wait until it won't distract from the flow we've got going, though.
>>
>>24122218
I meant thematically badass, not mechanically.
>>
>>24122061
"A Light that shines in the Darkness." You say. "...are your eyes okay?"

Ted just nods, mouth still agape. The sleeping boar next to him lets out a little grunting noise and turns over in his sleep.

"That was...something." Mage says. "I feel tingly." He looks at his fingers. "Course that isn't an odd feeling." He smiles kindly at you. "Thanks for helping me hit something for once." He punches you softly in the shoulder. "Big sis to the rescue."

"Holy..." Peri shakes her head.

"Yeah, just Holy." Mari says. "I think we need to sit down. Yeah."

Lea has dropped to her knees and is going through a full blessing to His Light. Thanking him for allowing her to be his instrument. There are tears of happiness in her eyes.

Tricia runs up and kisses you for a long long time.

"I love you." She whispers to you. "I love you I love you I love you...you don't know...you don't know how much it means to know that you truly do too." She kisses you again. You nod as you kiss her back. That feeling when you were with Tricia, helping her core that bitch...that was something special. It was just a moment as you were distracted by everyone else, but...yeah...that was special.

"No...no more...all ruined...all ugly...so bright, so horribly bright." The vampire pinned to the wall whimpers. "This can't be the Truth...this is the wrong Truth. Truth is Beauty...and I'm supposed to be Beautiful...so why? Why do I only see age?"

Her beautiful face and elegant arms are now withered and dried. She's an old hag now, and you've seen people who were still pretty even when they were ancient. She is not. Lea is prettier than this thing on the wall. She tries to not even look at you. "No...go away...you're not supposed to be like this." She whimpers. "Let me go back to the darkness where it's pretty...please."
>>
>>24122227
Ah, I see. In that case, I've gotta disagree; thematically, being the momentary embodiment of the Light and guiding the entire party simultaneously beats a glow anytime.

Speaking of which, Echo, nice thematic choice to send vampires after us in the first battle after we have the new Beacon. "Then we have a goat or two, come back, and Master lets us rest within the Love that is given to us. Soon he'll command it, once he takes up the Mask." She looks at you dreamily. "He knows the heart."

OK, the Mask is obvious (Sandover joining the Dramatae). The Heart is probably Citadel, but:

"The Heart? And who is 'he'?"
>>
>>24122444
>once he takes up the Mask
Sandover.

"What is the name of your Master."
>>
>>24122466
I, uh

Think she's just talking about the human heart there.
>>
>>24122466
First, say the prayer to bind the eyes and ears of darkness.
>>
>>24122444
>"Follow anyone who talks to Tallow."
That's not good. I'm hoping they just followed us, and nobody did anything to Tallow. Otherwise, we should invite the woman at the Healing Center desk along to see a smiting.

>>24122475
Could be; that'd fit with her comment about Love and her "dreamy" expression.

In any case, this is more direct:
>>24122467
>>
>>24122444
"Goats, eh? Never any people? Just... goats?"

This is an important thing to ask. If these vampire hookers are only eating goats, they aren't really all that bad. Just mindbrainwashed. Though, rehabilitation might fail, since our light-based techniques seem to damage them.
>>
>>24122492
Nah, let's just not ask about the heart after all. We don't need more about Citadel.
>>
>>24122444
Who is the master?

finish up with this:

Will you confess poor woman, and walk in His Light to find true beauty?
>>
>>24122444
Oh, one more important question, if we want to pin this on Sandover: "What were your names, before you became what you are now?"

Perhaps these are two of Sandover's "employees", and perhaps they have family that wonder where they've gone.
>>
i wonder how many vampires Sandover has under his control.
>>
>>24122444

"He is a deceiver, a being of darkness to keep you from the light. Giving you lies and scraps to keep you as a tool for his machinations. But the light is not without mercy, and not without forgiveness. If you ask for it."
>>
>>24122499
"Goats, eh? Never any people? Just... goats?"

"Not supposed to get people, unless they say it's okay." She says. "Bloodless people cause questions and people put things together."

"What is the name of your Master? He is a deceiver, a being of darkness to keep you from the light. Giving you lies and scraps to keep you as a tool for his machinations. But the light is not without mercy, and not without forgiveness. If you ask for it."

"Jeremy. Jeremy, please...tell us...tell us how we can always be loved and pretty." She moans. "Jeremy, I don't want to die. I don't want to die! Please, help me Jeremy."

"What were your names, before you became what you are now?"

She shakes her head. "Sister, sister dear...tell me that there's nothing to fear...sister, sister dear, the three of us are perfection clear...sister, sister dear..tell me that there's nothing to fear..." She slumps down unconscious.

"Poor creature." Lea says. "Poor girl."
>>
>>24122603
Yeah, I think booklearning is going to have to wait. We got to take the vamps back to the Occuli Mansion and get Balles to raid the fuck out of Sandover's place.
>>
>>24122603
OK, if she's that willing to say what she just said about "Jeremy": is there any way we can keep her alive, or is she a goner at this point? If we can drag her back to town and get her to repeat that, that's some rather more impressive evidence to make an even stronger case than just having a Paladin and entourage and Crazy Ted say it.

But if there's no way to save her at this point, then say a quick prayer for the souls of her and her sister, and move on towards the Bear Shrine.
>>
Poor girl indeed. Bind her wounds. I think our trip to the shrine is cancelled for now.

Also theres a third somewhere.
>>
>>24122603
Ok, staunch the bloodloss and save her if we can, we can bring her with us to the Bear Shrine and back to Bronze Peak once we finish there

keep an eye out for her third sister, 2 guards posted and rotated through the night.

"Well, Vampirism could possibly be cured...but I doubt that two chopped off legs have such an easy cure." Mari says. "We'll have to fix her up and bundle her up as well, or wait until nightfall."

<You can't be serious!> "I mean you can't be serious. She's undead! An abomination! There's only one..." Ted shrinks at the glares from the Dawnchasers and goes back to sitting next to the sleeping big. "This is why we need to find a proper Master, King Ceasar. People who serve Beautiful Ones go crazy." He says to the pig.

"Hold on...three sisters." You say. You shake her a little. "Hey, where's your third sister?"

The others draw weapons and wait for an attack.

"Sister One and Sister Two, were supposed to follow you, Sister Three is supposed to look, and find Jeremy his Dragon Book." She says. "Big red cover, with words of cold, and etching of a dragon in iron cold. That's the book that's in Shrine above. Bring it back to be filled with love. Sister One and Sister Two, the snake and her friends are ugly true, kill them all and with glee, but be sure to keep them from Sister Three." She babbles.
>>

Looks like we're not headed to town after all; to the Bear Shrine, double-time. I don't suppose Mage's haste spell works on people?
>>

That's more than a little creepy, especially with her so sleepy. Let's get going to the shrine, and we'll catch up with sister thine. But what shall we do with sister two? She'll die like this, but we've running to do.
>>
>>24122768
"Look Ted, she's a vital part of pinning all this on the one responsible. In addition to that, she's a prisoner in our care, and a possible ward to be healed under us, light willing. There's plenty of reason to take her along. Less weight, even, without the legs. We'll be able to catch up to sister 3 while she's tangling with the librarians.

And they're still more my friends than my followers. I guess you and that pig are in cahoots? Mind leading us on the fastest route to the shrine?"

"With us? Par for course." You say as you start to pull the items Mage needs.

"Please don't hurt King Ceasar." Ted says. "He's been a part of this mountain as much as I have."

"Then why did you lead us here to him?"

"I wasn't leading you to him, he's got like countless bastard sons all over these peaks." Ted shrugs. "He's a Dragon of Boars...how can I not admire that shred of nobility?"

The Occuli guards at the Bear Shrine aren't quite sure at what they're seeing.

A boar about as big as a horse, but slowly shrinking, is charging towards them. He's harnessed to what looks like a canvas sled. There's an elf-ish woman, a mummy with a twitching torso tied to her back, and a man with a stupid looking fur hat hanging onto the shreds of the sled.

Hanging onto the legs of the man in the hat is a lamia, clinging to the lamia for dear life, is a girl with a large floppy hat, and hanging onto the lamia's tail as they all get dragged through the snow is what looks like a spellcaster with a staff chained to his arm.

The boar skids to a stop about ten yards away from them. Shakes off the bridle like it was nothing, and goes to munch on a lichen clump as it slowly shrinks down to a size that's bigger than normal for any boar.

The pile of people and monsters just groan as they lie in the snow.

"Never...again..." Mage mumbles.

<I will see that you are all made to scrub the kennels and eat the scraps of scraps for this!> Ted says. <My soon-to-be master will...will not stand for...this...undigifi-ulpp.>

He vomits onto the snow away from you all.

"What." The utterly confused Occuli guard asks.

"Par for course." Peri says with a grin before burying her face in the snow.

You hold up a finger and turn to vomit a bit. You turn back and wipe your mouth, maybe showing a tad more fang than usual.

"To be more serious, we were attacked by vampires on the trip here. The one who survived the encounter, that's the thing in that twitching bag." You point.

"Anyway, she said there was a third who was seeking to steal a book. We need to talk to the head of sercurity and the one who will recognize it by its description."

"Uhhh." He looks at the pile of you, at the paper, and then back at you. He surrenders to the easiest followed protocol and stands aside as he salutes the Paladin.

"OK, everyone, if you have any more of your breakfast you don't plan to hang onto, please leave it *outside* the shrine."

The others all gather themselves up. Crazy Ted mutters curses at you as he checks on King Caesar.

"Well, we'll begin our investigation then. Can you point me towards the head guard, or whomever is locally in charge?"

"Lower floor." He says. The other one points.

To say that the Bear Shrine is just a shrine is a misnomer. It's an actual temple. Stone buildings, lots of bear carvings, and a large empty room that must have been a prayer hall. There's a large stone slab at the front of the room, more bears carved into it. Apparently a statue was here long ago, you still see half of a paw and indentations of where it stood. It's a very beautiful place, if you like that solemn quiet beauty of by gone ages. Proof that history makes ruin of us all and such. Maybe that's why Citadel keeps it around, to show people that this is what will happen to their great and 'eternal' civilization if Citadel's Blessing was to stop. Ash, rust, and ruin with only the guesses of what could have been and only the silence of snow to answer.

The library entrance is in a room that's behind the prayer hall. It's a small little hut with a cellar door. It's a setup that reminds you of River Crossing's root cellars, honestly.

Only River's Crossing didn't have the doors wide open and a groaning Amber Occuli holding a bloody rag to his neck, trying to pull himself out from below.
>>
>>24123515
Take a moment to survey the shrine, until you notice the wounded oculi.

"Man down! Threat in the library! Two two, come with me, I need you to stabilize your friend and watch the door."

Make to run for the library. We're kicking in some doors. Except not. It's already open.
>>
Well, good news is that we aren't too far behind her. Bad news is she is bloodied. Down those stairs. Lea is quicker so she can help him out and do some quick first aid so he doesn't bleed out. She should also for the gaurds at the entrance to come tend their fellow so she can join us.
>>
>>24123515
>Only River's Crossing didn't have the doors wide open and a groaning Amber Occuli holding a bloody rag to his neck, trying to pull himself out from below.

How in the world did she slip past the guard outside?

"Umm, whatever you say Beautiful One...it doesn't involve any more of your 'special' plans, does it?"

"No promises." Mari says.

"Fine."

The Amber grabs your wrist and shakes his head. "Vampire's not alone. She's got my entire squad enthralled...but she has someone else with her. A man. He's got this weird mask on. He's...I don't know what he did...but he's the reason why my men bowed before that fanged bitch." He sighed. "Good luck. Wha?" He looks at what you are. "Blood loss...go, try to keep them alive. Please." He closes his eyes. He's not dead, just out cold from blood drain.

I can't either for the first few hours, sadly.

For whoever's around to contribute to the early parts of the battle: we really want to avoid killing the enthralled Occuli, though knocking them out or incapacitating them seems fine. Bonus if we can do so using Beacon; I wonder if hitting someone with the flat of the blade still makes it glow? (I wonder if Beacon will get upset about being used against corrupted innocents?)

This seems like the kind of battle where we rush straight for the boss, and when we're done with the boss everyone else drops like their strings were cut.

Remember what we learned about spell reversal: I wonder if Jeremy Sandover is his True Name?
>>
>>24123756
>is jeremy sandover his true name?
