http://tgchan.org/kusaba/questdis/res/69289.html#69425

You are a human-form gargoyle crafted of marble set to protect a small town on the frontier of the wild darkness. Your people are still ignorant of what you are, and rightfully so.
Knowledge of what you are would simply prove that they fear you or the monsters among them tempt your destruction.

Last night: You were informed of a recent development of the village by Pastor Clegane.

He spoke to you of a shipment that had been delayed, inciting the fury of the town's resident noble, Victora Manse.

As the day went on, you took notice of an unnatural snow in the mid of summer. Father Clegane had said that the village had not had snow during summer in any of his years, you suspect foul play.

With the onset of night, you met the nightly guest of the church, the young witch by the name of Alice.

Alice appeared nervous before you, having heard tales of your kind. However, you swore to her that she was under your protection as well. The noble guardian angel of Hearthson shelters all peaceful beings under its watch!

With the night, a blizzard rolled in that impedes your path to the west.

You encountered frostbitten, gaunt white monsters in the cold of the mountain's blizzard.

After witnessing a Black Gargoyle Vanquish the apparent home of the Wendigo.

You meet a clan of gnomes, the leader of which informs you that Wendigo are demons that enter humans that have partaken in cannibalism.

You have faced off against Half-Wendigo men and buried their leader in an avalanche only to incur the wrath of the Black Gargoyle. After losing your arm to his might and magic, you pummeled him into submission only to be attacked by the Greater Wendigo.

Awaken Gargoyle, the night is dark.
>>
You notice a shadow from the corner of your vision and swing your remaining arm while enhancing the block with your wing.

You slide back a few feet this time from the strike of a bony tail.

The Greater Wendigo, having unburied itself in the fight between Gargoyles roars with anger enough to cause a second avalanche had there been enough snow.

Your right wing has thick chips taken off of it along with the bony tail of the Wendigo Lord.

You are robbed of your wind control as the anger of the monster unfolds, monstrous winds whipping across the land, robbing evergreens poking through the snow of their needles.

It appears you have offended this monster and it wants to see you shattered.

The Obsidian Gargoyle is nearly destroyed from your bludgeoning, and lies in the snow, motionless with what's likely the last of his spark.

You are missing an arm, grounded, and have deep cracks in your body that are healing slowly.

How are you getting through this one Angel?

These are the likely the most efficient builds that your current exp can buy.

>1. Shadow master: 2XP shadow forge (always armed), 3XP shadow hounds (we win action economy and can hold back a horde of enemies while we focus on one at a time). 3xp shadow step.

>2. master of elements: Primal heart 4XP, earthen 1XP, natural 2XP, 2XP earth or 3XP lightening or 2XP fire hands. - magic good.

>3. Melee master: dense marble 2XP OR beastly strength 5XP, force 1XP, wolven agility 4XP.

I'm seeing little in way for exp buy.

Consensus so far has been to attack, specifically by moving and striking opportunistically.

Any other suggestions?

Lightning.

Fry his ass.
>>
>>24062351

So.... I'm thinking our best bet right now might be to finish off the Obsidian gargoyle, take whatever EXP we can get from that and then fall back. I don't think we're in any position to stop the wendingo lord right now and he isn't either.
>>
>>24062671
I'm gonna stick with buying lightning. To me, it seems that it would go against the wendigos ice element, and it would allow us to attack from afar, without being impeded by our missing arm.

Plus I really like the concept of an angelic figure striking from the shadows with fucking lightning.
>>
>>24062734
Would you be against getting frenzied regen as well? Would help to not need to find all the chips buried in the snow
>>
I think we should spend some XP before this battle.

>>24062629
I would love to get frenzied regen before it disappears off of the chart (special bonuses unlocked via eating a unique opponent slowly go up in price and disappear after 10XP)
But other combat builds are probably better.

I am most enticed right now by the shadow master build (winning action economy via our own minions) or the master of elements build (weaker in combat, but the most utility).

>MrTT: does earth shape only give utility or can it be used to fling earth fast enough to be used in combat.
>Stone Mason: With enough proficiency... such as Primal Heart and Natural, you could make remote Earth- Spikes. I'll work on an overall profiency/ powerscaling sheet when I have some time.

So for primal I think the ideal build is :
Primal heart 4XP (comes with free earthsense, a 1XP value), earthen 1XP, natural 2XP, 2XP shape earth
We could use earth spikes attack at this point and do so at a +35 bonus to attack roll.
Furthermore we might be able to shut down enemy control over magic the way it is currently shutting us down.
>>
>>24062761
While that's true, I don't want to trade combat regen with limb regeneration.

The way I see it, the point is to -not- get hit and lose limbs.
>>
>>24062726
Consuming XP takes time and soul eating can be interrupted, the obsidian golem cost us 2 wendigo souls by hitting us with a fireball as we started eating them 2 threads ago.
The wendigo lord WILL cause us to lose the obsidian gargoyles soul if we try to eat it now AND it will not provide any XP in time for combat.

We do however have 10XP ready to be spent at will
>>
>>24062803

I hadn't caught that. Ok. Let's go with spending some EXP now, then.
>>
Whoo, gargoyle quest.

Sheeeit I missed us fighting the obsidian gargoyle. The fuck?

>>24062694
>>24062734
>>24062761

Lightning + frenzied regeneration seems like an excellent choice right about now. We need a powerful ranged attack and some sort of health/defense upgrade.

As for our action, keep our distance and shoot lightning.
>>
>>24062793
its worth noting that as long as we can reclaim the shattered fragment of our magically imbued marble we will be able to use them to regenerate. Limb regeneration would help if we somehow lose access to the material. Which could very well happen eventually.
>>
>>24062726
While I hate that obsidian bastard as much as anyone, I don't think it's a very good idea to kill him..There's clearly some kind of unspoken rule that we broke.

Probably a stigma against eating human souls period.

'Course, there's no telling if there's an actual rule, or every gargoyle operates as a free agent. Which would explain why most of the people privvy to the Night were surprised that we werent...you know, a horrible monster.
>>
Lightning and Frenzied Regen seem to be of the highest trend.

I'll need two seconds for it.

Lightning, as a spell does require clouds in the sky with increased difficulty based on cloud absence. Due to the current blizzard weather the Greater Wendigo has caused, this is not currently an issue.

>>24062878
Only way to find out is to let him live, right?
>>
>>24062878
I agree and want to nurse him back to health while talking and hopefully making an ally or at least learning more...
I was just pointing out strategic issues (it will be interrupted) and rules misconception (it does NOT give instant XP, we must wait to "digest" it first)

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24043677/#p24047917
This is worth reading about frenzied regen.
>>
>>24062901
Oh hells yeah.

We should find a copper pipe and carry it around as a lightning director.
Or a copper cross, we could wear it as a necklace. That would be awesome
>>
>>24062849

It's in the thread from yesterday.

Angel caused an avalanche to bury the Wendigo and the Lord along with the caravan and the trade route. The Black Gargoyle attacked from what's presumed to be the fact that the souls absorbed earlier were not fully demonic, and from the fact that Angel effectively blocked the trade route.

He took Angel's left arm and Angel broke his face.
>>
>>24062947
Oh, frenzied regen is an improved version of werewolf regen. I was confusing it with the one we got from the troll.

I'll go for frenzied regen in addition to the lightning.

I don't like the idea of investing too heavily in one tree, just because we can't be too sure of how it affects us...While we know that using traits causes some of that creatures mental traits to manifest in us, we don't know if abilities will do the same.
>>
>>24063069

We can go for depth after we get delicious Wendigo exp. I'll vote for dense marble + primal heart.
>>
>>24063157
As marble we get a huge penalty to demonic magic, a small penalty to fae, and the ability to buy marble related upgrades to primal for a +10 bonus to rolls (+15 on earth manip)

cuyrrent vote is 4 for lightening + regen
2 for ,Primal heart 4XP (comes with free earthsense, a 1XP value), earthen 1XP, natural 2XP, 2XP shape earth
>>
>>24063157
i´ll prefer to invest all in one tree first , jack of all traits master of non sorta thing , but i see what you mean
>>
>>24063186

I'm about to lock it. It's worth mentioning that in combat limb regeneration from Frenzied regen isn't really possible. it still takes time.
>>
>>24063222
It's still superior to what we have. So long as we can have our head roll away from a fight, we live.
>>
>>24063222

Understood. We need those deep cracks to start healing, we can get our arm later.
>>
>>24063252
If we lose the enemy is almost certain to shatter us dead rather then let us crawl to safety.
If we win we can collect our fragments and heal fully with current regen.
Frenzied regen does slightly help in combat... but mostly its for when we escape with a critical injury.

Anyways, I don't see us getting 3 votes needed to swing this so I am throwing in the towel.
Lets have frenzied + lightening
>>
Rolled 53, 2, 59 + 20 = 134

With your adversary before you, the Greater Wendigo, its eyes red with anger and nearly frothing from its mouth in its rage, you take a look at your own body, displeased with the state that it's in. You channel the power of the half wendigo souls you've recently absorbed and tap into the power of the Troll from the past night. You feel old, and full of life as you tap into the power... Like something ancient as you feel your body begin to repair itself at an even faster rate, even the marble of your missing arm beginning to manifest out of what seems to be thin air.

You see the Monster move to lunge at you!

Reaction roll vs, you'll gain lightning in the course of the counter.

Lord Wendigo Terrain bonus. +20. Lord Wendigo's condition down from 110 max roll to 100.

Angel's condition is improving, yet not quite there. 1d80 for defensive reaction and counter.

A reminder of the Foe.

And you can now see that its overall condition is still quite high, the Avalanche did a little in way of slowing it down, yet not much.

As a side note, I looked up Avalanche injury for shits n giggles. Most deaths from avalanches are not from the trauma but asphyxiation. The Lord Wendigo is mostly unscathed.

Frenzied regeneration (faster regen + can regen body parts without collecting them) and lightning magic.
>>
The Lord Wendigo lunges at you, a large bear-like paw coming at you from the side.

You duck and hear the air ripping with a gusting blow.

You retailiate with an uppercut into the human-like face upon its torso, giving it severe pause and causing it to stumble back as you unsheathe one of your silver daggers with your remaining arm and stab it directly into the same human-like part.

The silver sinks in and causes a burning ignition of mystic fire causing the monster to roar in pain before bringing both of its paws down upon you with such force that it forces you into the snow and with a twist of its arms, it grips your wings and tears them away.

The monster growls over you, causing the very wind itself to rumble.

The human-form in the torso rips the dagger out of its eye and roars at you with a horrid screech.

With your knees stuck into the snow, you tap into your remaining power and knowledge to master the next closest thing that can save you.

The Sky.

Casting lightning VS Wendigo and its dominance over the weather.

Base DC for lightning in this weather is 10. VS the Wendigo's dominance it's increased to 60.

You have healed to light cracks. You are missing both wings.

DC is 60, and it's holding a silver knife.

With likely the last movement you may ever make, you raise your remaining arm as the Greater Wendigo looms over you, trying to break through its mastery of the weather for your own purposes...

The Winter Demon growls out words to you, its anger having come to a pass as it composes itself, "Pitiful.. A demon in stone and a demon in glass. I... Shall free you." The monster raises its mighty paw for the finishing blow.

You feel a connection with the sky at the last moment. As it brings its paw down, you bring down the lightning, striking it through the silver dagger it holds, you see only a blinding flash and hear a thunderous boom that causes the monster to fall forward into the snow over you.

It still moves slightly..

70% positive, 20% negative, 10% neutral is bad odds?
>>
>>24064745

I was willing to gamble when we needed a boost in a pinch, but we've won the day. Long term, I think we're better off keeping ourselves presentable so that we can win allies for the no-doubt tougher battles that lie ahead.
>>
Also, of note. exp from a soul will always be less than a whole trait.
>>
We need to get back to the church NOW. Remember we don't have wings right now, and can't move during the day. Must get back before dawn.
>>
>>24064785

You didnt write anything for 4, and 10 is normally choice.

Guys, negative traits NEVER GO AWAY. (we were explicitly told this)

Hungering for human flesh or going nuts and attacking innocents are unacceptable... especially not for saving a few XP which we get anyways fast enough.
>>
>>24064861
But we have to keep in mind that the bad is REALLY bad. One takes control away, the other turns us into a fucking canibalism virus.

>>24064883
But positive traits don't go away either, and these are fucking amazing. One allows us to control the wind better, and mask our presence. One automatically gives us a huge strength boost and 3 abilities. One allows us to deep freeze enemies, and gives us freezing weapons and defenses.

>>
You take in the Lord Wendigo's soul, taking in its power and knowledge. You feel as though it enters you, kicking, screaming and roaring. You... Don't feel quite right as you begin to incorporate it into your power.

You clamber out of the snow and to stand and revel in your victory for the moment," Oh demon of twisted flesh, I'd give your soul freedom but... It is mine now." You feel a chuckle begin to come from your voice.

You sense around under the snow, looking for the other Wendigo. You feel nothing. There is no further life under the avalanche. Your left arm has regenerated up to the elbow now and your wings have begun to return, though they are still only like buds.

You walk over to the obsidian one that has since risen from your bludgeoning, it regards you with only one remaining Garnet eye, its demonic features scowling with your approach.

"You... Hungry one... aren't you? It will be your undoing... As it... is mine, gravel. Do you seek to finish me?" It clenches its staff and invokes flames upon its body, you sense a disruption in the air as once more, a greater dominance undermines yours.

"You have fractured me, however I will shatter you, should you continue your traitorous ways."

The Black Gargoyle seems to have some regenerative abilities, yet he is still thoroughly cracked.

What will you do?

You keep on calling me a traitor. Tell me, how could I have saved the half transformed wendigo?
As for the accusation of blocking the pass... the snow will melt and I shall clear the rest.
The wendigo lord was searching for something specific in it, he could not have been allowed to acquire it.
>>
>>24065424

Don't be retarded. We're regenerating faster, and this is a chance to gain valuable information about ourselves that we are sorely lacking.

[X] Speak to him.

"I do not seek to harm another of my kind. Why did you attack me? What have you done to yourself?"
>>
>>24065371
"the hunger from before allowed me to call upon the power now that killed the Wendigo. Without that, my charges, myself, and you would be dead by its hand. it may be evil, but it does more good than harm for now. If that changes- and do make certain of it for once- you have my permission to strike me down." bow out, grab a trophy of the Wendigo and walk off to try and reattatch our wings and get home before dawn.

>>
>>24065519
True. Thing is, even if less than effective after we fractured him he has been integral in preventing the mountain range from being overrun by monsters. We don't want this place to become a breeding ground for new threats to our town when we still have so much to do in other areas.

This is concerning. Did we just bite off more then we can chew?
Does each individual monster consumed increase our corruption somehow? Because that could throw off the risk v reward analysis we have been doing when choosing to not roll.

We decided to do that before we even killed him though.
Also, if this really IS the case I think we could come up with a solution where we sacrifice more XP to properly cleanse the souls before claiming them.

Alternatively, we could perhaps slow down the rate of our consumption and spend time focusing on already claimed souls to fully subdue the captured souls and strip out their faults. We should try it during the next day, spend the entire day wrangling the souls within us.

If you guys really wanted which you apparently do which is to talk to the black arse of a gargoyle, we can both get what we want through a compromise.
You can talk to him and ask many questions and then when we're done we can kill him. I didn't care about talking to him and still don't but since the rest of you do care we can compromise and everyone gets what they want.

You reign in your burgeoning hunger and savage impulses to deal with the black one with as much tact as possible.

"Elder, I am four nights old.. I know little of our kind, or the taboos associated with our defense of..." Your mind wanders a moment as you imagine biting down into flesh.

"You are feeling it now... Aren't you Gravel...?" The black one's voice whispers into the air, sounding less like a demon than even moment ago.

"What do... What do you speak of?"

"We gain power from the souls of the monsters we destroy... Yes... However we can only eat so much while staying in control."

"What?"

"You may not have the hunger of that monster... yet.. but it is within you. Here is the truth. We are demons. Fleshless monsters infused upon the plane of mortals. The magic of the earth gives us our bodies, the Fae gives us our minds and... allows semblence of control. Yet our core is demon. We hunger for the souls of all things."

You are silent as the Elder Gargoyle tells you things that you... you understand to be true. It is the truth.

You look to the black one and snarl," I am not a monster! I am a Gargoyle, an Angel! I am the Angel of Hearthson!"

"And I am the Shadow of Evidas.. Yet Gargoyle, Shadow, Angel, or monster. We are all of these. Do well to understand. And keep your hunger in check. You have taken many demons this night. Do well to not act like one yourself."

The Black one's flames disappear fully and you see that his cracks are gone, even his other garnet eye is back in place.

"Do well to not endanger humans in the future. I will not spare you a second time."

The Shadow of Evidas spreads its wings and takes flight for the West, speeding off into the black and slowly clearing blizzard.

You feel a compulsion to dig into the avalanche. To look for what's within the caravan.

Sit down and meditate doing nothing except turning your FULL ATTENTION to wrestling down the souls you have recently consumed.

he is worth an amount of exp if we kill him. if we leave him alive protecting this mountain range he keeps us from being attacked on ALL sides at least. and I am sure the laws of thermodynamics apply when eating souls to, so he is probably more experience walking around protecting our flank than he is in our belly. and he can grow separate from us(exponents!), if he can figure out how to not roll fucking traits all the time.

it is mathematically best to keep him alive and freindly or at least neutral.
>>

>>24066088
He explained that the uncontrolled desire to eat is from the demon magic in us, while the self control is from the fae... so perhaps we could acquire or design such traits if we start eating fae and gain fae magicks and traits.

Also, doesn't soul syphon do that already? as it reduces the chance of a negative trait when consuming enemies.
>>
>>24066117
Sorry, thought anon was specifically referring to the mental influence consumed souls seem to have on us.

He was, so was I... Let me clarify this miscommunication:
The "he" who said about our hunger coming from our demon part, our body from primal magic, and our control from our fae part is "the Shadow of Evidas".
The anon I was replying to was asking if we could design a trait to improve control. I was suggesting that the path to learning such control is in pursuing fae magicks. Or perhaps the mind magicks branch of stealth.
>>
The compulsion to seek the item within the caravan overcomes you.

You bend down to dig, forgetting about your broken wings in the snow or even the fragments of your arm.

You get down and you dig with your remaining right hand and the stub of the left.

Only momentarily does sanity find you as you seek the hole that the Greater Wendigo rose from, delving down into the partially collapsing snow to get closer to the source.

You keep digging and searching through the caravan with all of your senses, seeking out the origin of the strange impulse.

'Where is it? I must find it. What is it even?'

You keep digging until you discover the frozen corpse of a human. In your daze, you recognize it as one of the half-wendigo that had been with the lord. It appears that it died from the avalanche. Nothing remains within.

You move the corpse to the side and keep digging through the night.

The sun rises while you are buried underneath the snow, by the time, you have regained your left hand and both wings.

The thought still burns within you.

That you must find it even as the day passes.

Your fixation continues into the night, digging and searching for what calls to you.

In the middle of your fifth night, you find an odd ring with engravings etched into the side along with two concentric overlapping circles with markings within and around the design. The ring is composed of what appears to be gold, yet you can feel that there is something more. With the ring finally within your grasp, you begin to relax, only to realize that you've spent nearly twenty four hours digging.

The Lord Wendigo Settles within you, though you still fieel its strange influence on the fringe of your mind. 'At last, I have found it... I... Must take it to the masters...'

You gain 5exp.

You feel a bit more composure and push that odd thought out of the way. You realize that you must return to your post. No doubt Pastor Clegane is concerned that a Gargoyle is gone... Hopefully no one has noticed.
>>
>>24066215
So we just need some more Fae in our diet and less demons. Sounds simple enough, when we design these traits I wonder if they will be tacked on to the Fae tree or just under the Special tree?
>>
>>24066239
Are we fully regenerated?
>>
>>24066239

>you've spent nearly twenty four hours digging.

Holy shit.

If we fail a mental check while we're talking to someone, we're so fucked.

We need to see the pastor immediately, inform him of what's happened, and get his help to control ourselves. If we don't have control we can hardly expect to help the town.
>>
Go back to town, have the father examine the ring while you sit still at your perch and wrestle down those demon souls until you are fully back in control or the town is attacked.

Also, lets spend that XP
>>
Rolled 83

>>24066239
At least now the Lord is settled, and we can spend a day digesting it.

24 hours of digging means it's almost sunrise again.
>>
You grip the ring tightly, not wanting to let your prize go. Climbing out of the snow, you look up to see the clear sky and the waning Gibbous moon of your fifth night.

You retrieve your dagger properly from the monster and cut off its head which has been rather well preserved by the snow before flying off East to return to your post in Hearthson.

With a tailwind on your wing, you make it back in under an hour.

You see that the town has gone to sleep and seems rather peaceful overall as opposed to prior nights.

There is no ice or snow, yet the grounds seem to be fairly wet from the melt.

You get a kind of feeling... as though it's good to be home again... It's good to be home after so long away...

What.. what are you thinking? It's only been one night.

You have landed at your church and you sense two lives within the building. You would suppose that it's Pastor Clegane and the Fae-witch, Alice.

The gift that the Pastor left for you is nothing but burnt tatters at this point...

We could permanently relocate our perch from the top of the church to the inside of the church. People will assume the pastor moved us (especially if he confirms as such). It makes no sense for him to move us down for a day then put us back, it does make sense for a long term move to the inside of the church.

I may be reading too literally here but this is what says in the discussion.

>Control: Reduces the madness induced by berserking to allow differentiation of targets.
>>
>>24066602
>>24066583
Thought so. In this case it is pretty useless because we don't want to berserk. Only if other compulsions were better controlled by it, would it help us.
>>
>>24066602
I am thinking it reduces madness in general and it just so happen to reduce it to the point where we can differentiate targets in a berserk, for example, but also control other things... but maybe not...
Will control help with self control in general?

Also, is it just me or is the marble tree basically primal magic, the stealth fae magic, and the brutality demon magic?
>>
>>24066645
It isn't just you. Marble is better geared for Primal magics.
>>
The marble tree does indeed end up that way.

Three magics compose gargoyles.

The body is Primal.
The Mind is Fae.
The Soul is Demon.

And Control will offer some assistance, though the discipline trait is far superior.
>>
>>24066673
to get Discipline we would need 8xp whereas we only have 5xp
>>
>>24066673
I thought discipline required stalwart which requires knight of slaughter (branches out from "start" point)

So, while he is working on that. How about we try to reach a consensus on spending that 5XP?

So far there are several calls for Primal Heart (+20 to primal magic rolls, costs only 4XP for now, gives a free 1XP ability Earth Sense)
Dense marble (better defense, better damage, can hide wings)
And either mind-link or control.

I am fine with all of them, but I think dense marble is the lowest priority of that bunch since its price doesn't go up over time. Also offense is better then defense.

I would really like to get earth manip right after we get primal heart, it would allow us to build and teardown things (walls, a high tower to perch on, a fake hollow thin duplicate of us inside which we perch IF we make it back in time (if not it sits there hollow, we earth manip our way in and out), detect hostiles better (via earth sense).
>>
>>24066902

If by Earth Manipulation you mean shape earth...that costs 2 exp.
>>
>>24066902
Primal Heart and Control sounds like a good use of XP.
>>
You enter the church, reigning in your control to think clearly. It hasn't been quite as bad since you've claimed this ring. Or perhaps the soul within you has simply settled down?

Who know?

You see that the inside of the church is indeed lit, and you see a third person within that you could not detect.

The woman looks over to you as you stop , stunned like some kind of animal.

You do not know this woman, nor do you sense her. You feel Alice resting in the other room, likely sleeping in the church for the night.

Pastor Clegane looks to you, dispassionate and mildly grumpy, yet that's likely just his usual self when composing around you.

The woman with him wears frivolous clothes, a long embroidered dress with what is like to be black gold, several necklaces of gold and silver with many gems studding the chains, and her hair, many curled locks of a deep raven that fall along the sides of her face and down her back.

She has makeup like some kind of clown, red lipstick giving her a permanent smooching look.

Just who..

"Ah, the guardian has returned." Pastor Clegane says calmly.

The woman puts a fan before her face and eyes you up and down with some scrutiny," My, my... Nothing but the best for my little town here. Such fine craftsmanship... and the power pouring off of it right now... Somewhat to be desired, sure.. But a young Gargoyle is a young Gargoyle."

The Pastor bows ever so slightly to you," This, this is Lady Manse, the noble patron of Hearthson. She is the true head of this town, the voice of the ruling nobility."

"Quite so, and I need not your introduction Father Clegane, though I do cherish it deeply. So Gargoyle, what news do you have of the shipment, what of my... Hmm.. Luxuries?"

What will you say to Victora Manse and Father Clegane?

>[] Write in.
>>
>>24066965

"The blizzard was caused by a mighty Wendigo Lord. The men hauling the shipment were already possessed by demons. I was able to slay the creature, and its underlings, but it was a difficult battle. The trade route is buried by the snow, along with the caravan itself."

Speak of the ring only to Pastor Clegane once she leaves, along with your own internal concerns. We don't know her, we can't trust her.
>>
>>24066902
Voting for Primal Hear and control. Mind-link would be cool as well, but not I'm more concerned about our own mind (or rather soul) at the moment.
>>
We could so use mind whisper right now (to telepathically converse with the pastor and ask how reliable she is).

>>24066965
"Waylaid by a large group of wendigo lead by a wendigo lord. 15 of the caravan guards were converted into wendigo as well, all have been destroyed but the caravan was buried under an avalanch... the Wendigo lord however was compulsively searching for this ring for mysterious "masters""

Alternatively if we want to keep the ring a secret from her for now:
"Buried under the snow which was brought by wendigo, they have been destroyed so the snow will soon melt".
>>
>>24067060
"As such, a team can be sent out in the next few days to recover the 'luxuries', but a new source is going to have to be sought out."
>>
hold up the piece of wendigo we took as a trophy. "I am afraid the fight with the canibal demon and the thralls it made of the men of the caravan involved an avalanche. I dug to the caravan so a party should not have to much difficulty retrieving it so long as it was not overly fragile. now I am terribly sorry but the Wendigo leader has given me much that I need to discus with the pastor."
>>
>>24067039
Looking over it again, to hear what someone thinks we need mind peer, so that is 5XP not 1XP...
As such I am seconding your spending suggestion of Primal Heart (4XP) + Control (1XP).
Anyone thirding it or offering an alternative?
>>
>>24067168

Thirding Primal Heart + control

The control side of the Brutality tree is really solid. Knight of Slaughter gives us weapon knowledge and better general combat ability. Stalwart makes us impervious to flinch/stun from physical attacks; we can't get knocked around or thrown. Finally, there's discipline, which gives us strict mental and physical control.

We need the primal abilities and shadow magic, but we should be eying those carefully as we get EXP.
>>
>>24067168
I will third the primal heart control deally.
>>
You hold up the stag-head of the Lord Wendigo for the two of them to see. Lady Manse regards it with a keen interest while Pastor Clegane's expression does little in way of changing aside from scowling a touch more deeply.

You begin,""The blizzard was caused by a mighty Wendigo Lord. Fifteen of the caravan guards were converted into wendigo as well, all have been destroyed but the caravan was buried under an avalanche.

I dug to the caravan so a party should not have to much difficulty retrieving it so long as it was not overly fragile, and the snow should melt within a few days.

If you would excuse me... Lady Manse, I have things that I must discuss with the pastor." You notice that this woman has not flinched even once at your unearthly voice.

As of now, Lady Manse nods, closing her fan and putting it to her side with a haughty, yet condescending smile," Well then, carry on, I'm supposing you found something interesting?" She's not leaving..

>[] Leave, you'll just come back later.
>[] Insist that she leaves.
>[] Carry on with what you must discuss with the Pastor.
>[] (Other)

You may write in for any of these.
>>
>>24067277
Time to misdirect. She suspects we have the ring.
"The most interesting thing of all. Information about myself and Gargoyles in general. I'm sure you already know the basics so this would only bore you."

If she insist on staying here imply that you don't feel comfortable talking about yourself around her. You don't yet trust her enough.
>>
>>24067277
"Lady Manse. What sort of 'interesting" thing would you expect from the caravan?"
>>
>>24067320
Given how we barged into their conversation it would be rude to suggest she leave. If she wants to stay she can, we will simply discuss whatever we want later, when she is gone.
>>
>>24067320

>"The most interesting thing of all. Information about myself and Gargoyles in general. I'm sure you already know the basics so this would only bore you."

Perfect.

Also add that the so-called "Shadow of Evidas" seems rather unstable - that's what you wanted to discuss with the pastor.

That's all.
>>
>>24067332
>>24067349

These.
>>
Carry on with what you must discuss with the Pastor.

1. Our absence was likely noticed, it can be easily explained if we relocate inside the church during the day. We were simply "moved" by the pastor.
2. Apologize about the robe being destroyed.
3. You encountered an older gargoyle, he advised that consuming too many demons consecutively without first wrestling each soul into submission can cause a gargoyle to lose control, that after consuming the demon lord you were overcome with the absolute NEED to recover an item for "the masters" from the caravan, which means someone sent those wendigos after it.
4. The elder gargoyle explained about the makeup of gargoyles, a demon soul, primal body, and fae mind. To that regards you would like to consult with him about methods to reinforce the minds control over demonic taint and perhaps with any contact he has that is knowledgeable about fae magic on reinforcing your mind's control of your demonic soul.

This last point is important, we know he has alice as that but we want to know if he trusts the lady with knowledge of alice's occupation.
If he does then I suggest we then go on to point 5..

5. The ring we found in the caravan, the item the wendigo lord was compelled so strongly to retreive.
>>
>>24067396
PS. if he does NOT reveal alice then we COULD leave without mentioning the ring...

However:
1. We cannot sense her yet we can sense him and alice, i bet she is a really powerful mage.
2. It IS her magic item, we should not steal it without due cause.
3. She IS the official ruler of the town and we should not be so quit to alienate them.
4. If she is evil, pretending to be duped by her would let us find out more about her plans then being hostile and prickly.
5. She could very well sense the ring's presence in here.

For all of those reasons I believe we should address the issue of the ring in her presence.
>>
don't forget we felt more at home here than ever after eating the wendigo
>>
>>24067396
>[X] Carry on with what you must discuss with the Pastor.

This seems like a good order of operations, though parts three and four might be moved up so as to seem like we aren't dodging her question.

"I found that the mountains, or maybe the caravan, if that is what you are getting at, are guarded by another gargoyle, who does not like others encroaching on his territory."
Then segue into what we learned, and the rest of the list.
-number five, we could leave before talking to her about that, or have her leave so we can talk about 'maintenance and such'.
>>
>>24067451
Could just be the missing 24 hours, or the caravan guards. Also the lord would have been noticed in town, what with causing winter. Besides which why would she attack her own caravan?

>>24067460
I don't believe we could get her to leave believably. If we decide to not discuss it we simply leave with the ring without mentioning it and discuss it later.
However I seriously doubt that a mage so powerful as to be invisible to our life and wind sense is going to not notice the powerful magical item we are carrying in our hand... also she is going to be smart enough to notice we are "hiding" a small object in our hand.

>>24067252
Great, that is 3 v 0 votes for primal heart + control.
I think that is enough to implement, yes?
>>
>>24067505
Yes, it's been marked, will write it in shortly.
>>
>>24067505

You've convinced me that we can't directly lie about the ring.

Let's go with that plan then.
>>
>>24067505
And now I'm wondering about the possibility of using Earth Shape to hide objects inside our bodies, say during the day.
Specifically, the knives, so we don't have to leave the church decrepit and sure to be empty at night so we can deposit and reclaim them without notice.
>>
>>24067563

That's not a bad plan, but we probably shouldn't hide silver knives inside our demonic body.
>>
I am heading to bed as I feel rather ill...
Goodnight gentlemen
>>
>>24067617

Goodnight, get better.
>>
>>24067589
>The body is Primal.
The Mind is Fae.
The Soul is Demon
>>
>>24067617
night, get better.
>>
Seems legit to hide the ring, but I get this horrible feeling we may turn into some kind of superpowers stone 'golum'

Is Stone Mason punishing us for consuming souls when we didn't know the risks? Some kind of hard lesson to be learned? Either way if we don't find some means of controlling souls consumed things gonna get BS real fast
>>
>>24067717
From what I understood from what we were told by the other gargoyle, its OVEReating that is the problem (or rolling and getting a bad trait). We are getting the souls under control, you lose control when you eat too many/too powerful souls in one night. The souls we have fully suppressed are not going to suddenly stir up.
>>
You look to the woman and feel... unsure of her presence. Due to your inability to sense her, you presume that she is definitely someone of notable power... and not just of social standing.

"I...encountered an elder gargoyle within the mountains."

The pastor puts a hand to his slight beard and rubs it with some interest," Oh? I'm guessing it must have been the Gargoyle of Evidas?"

"Yes, it is known as the Shadow of Evidas."

Lady Manse chimes in," Oh, and they take up names... Well.. I've heard that Gargoyles take the names that the people give them. . ."

"Yes my lady..." You ignore her condescension," I am the Angel of Hearthson. Someone called me that, so it is my name."

Lady Manse smiles a bit at that," Well, that is.. rather fitting... I suppose I can agree. Carry on." She puts the fan back up to her face.

"Shadow told me of the Gargoyle's make. Demon Soul, Primal body, and Fae mind... As well as how we lose control when we... Eat too much. Is there... Perhaps any that you would know to help me reign in more control, Pastor?"

Clegane raises an eyebrow," Hmm, why yes. Lady Manse could possibly help you with that... Or perhaps Alice."

"Oh? That homeless Witch of yours Clegane? Wonder how she would assist 'Angel' here?" She chuckles and sense some sarcasm in her voice.

Clegane gives her a sharp stare.

"Now now Gargoyle, these are things we already know. I'm sorry I haven't assigned any to take care of you. I will have the Father here do it. And if you have need of settling demons, he shall deliver your request." Lady Manse's lips curl into a fox-like smile and she holds out a dainty lace-gloved hand.

"But first, you shall give me my ring."

She knew.

>[] Hand it over post-haste.
>[] Refuse.
>[] Ask her to explain what it is.
>[] Grovel for her to explain what it is.
>[] (Other)
>>
>>24067717
We gotta get the ring away from us.
The Windego Lord was just a really powerful demon, and a demon's power usually comes from the possession of a host. We happen to be possessing this one (demonic soul), so IT can't take our body, but it looks like it can at least remain coherent enough to leave feelings, like the increased familiarity of the town, and the Need for the ring. Until we're in complete control of our body, it's more legit to give the ring to someone who doesn't have a demon inside them.
>>
>>24067772
>[X] Hand it over post-haste.
>>
>>24067772
Ask for an explanation.

"How did you know I had it Milady? And what is it actually? I had a strange sensation when coming into contact, and possession, of it."
>>
>>24067772

Hand it over, but ask her to explain what it was, saying that the Wendigo was hell-bent on finding it.
>>
>>24067772

Hand it over. "I'll assume that you know how to handle this thing safely, because I don't."
>>
>>24067772
"Of course, but explain to me why The Lord wanted to find it so bad, and who is the 'master' it mentioned?"

She played her hand early so now we play ours
>>
Hand it over post-haste. AFTER handing it over:
"So it is yours then? I was going to hand it over and ask you to examine it for me... you see the wendigo lord had a very strong compulsion to acquire this ring and deliver to some unknown "masters"; obviously those who orchestrated the attack to steal it from you in the first place; until I fully dominate his soul I am better off away from it until I fully subdue his soul"

Also #1 from:
>>24067396
>>
>>24067772
"I fear my judgement concerning the ring is clouded. Truth be told I am split between getting it away from me as soon as possible and holding on to it right now. Before I recovered it I was overcome with the compulsion to seek it out. On the one hand I want the object of this compulsion to be far away from me. On the other hand I am concerned it might start again as soon as I relinquish it. If you don't mind I would like to improve my self-control first, so that I don't become obsessed with hunting down the ring when I give it away.

This might be as easy as waiting for a day to let the Wendigo soul be completely subsumed.
>>
>>24067888
>>24067888

This so much.
>>
"So it was yours" hold out the ring flat on the palm of our hand while asking "any idea why did the wendigo wish to deliver this to some master so badly that it effected me when I absorbed him?" if she tries to snatch it before we are done speaking, just close our, hand, hopefully we can be the sensei with the pebble.

>taunting a powerful mage

Let's not.
>>
Unwilling to let the lady wait on her ring, you set down the Greater Wendigo's head and hand the ring over to her.

With the same fox-like expression, she observes the ring carefully.

Father Clegane's eyes go wide as she regards the object in the candle-light,"Lady Manse, what is that?"

The women appears coy for a moment, however she decides to take him seriously," Father Clegane, you should know of this ring quite well."

You speak up, curiosity taking hold," So it is indeed yours. I had intended for you or someone else trustworthy to examine it for me. The Greater Wendigo had a very strong compulsion to seek this out for its... 'masters.' Might you be aware of-"

"Why yes... How interesting... Seems that demons do indeed seek this ring. Well, it is in the proper hands as of this very moment." She flashes a disarming smile, "You haven't the slightest thing to worry your little marble head over 'angel,' keep up the excellent work, aside from allowing Pastor Clegane the grace..." The Pastor's expression deepens even further into a scowl, it seems he does not like this woman..." Of being your caretaker, I will bestow upon you a boon of your choosing. Granted, you are not a human, I may still fufill at least one of your desires, oh 'Angel of Hearthson." She says almost mockingly, yet it seems that she's serious about a boon...

>[] What will you request?

>[] And what else will you say?
>>
"I would very much like to not be forced by the souls I absorb to dig for a things I know nothing of until dawn. Pastor Clegane seemed to believe you could help me with this?"
>>
>>24068157

She's already agreed to assist with that. Alternatively, you can seek aid from Alice.
>>
>>24068083
If you would help Molly with her nightmares, that would be appreciated.
>>
Honestly we have little to ask for at the moment. Save for perhaps a magic item, knowledge, or contacts.
We could ask to save it but I don't know how long it will be available for, so I think I would opt for knowledge.
Info about human mages, info about the type of monsters one might encounter, info about our own makeup, info about other towns, info about who makes gargoyles...
Info about HOW gargoyles are made.

>>24068185
No. If it is supernatural then this is something we will discuss with the pastor, and if it is not then we are not going there.
>>
>>24068185
I feel it would be wasted. We will most likely be able to help her ourself within days. I honestly can't think of anything good to ask her though. We can gain power easily, we know so little that it would be wasted to ask her about most things. There is nothing immediate we know of and can't do anything about.

We could ask her to teach us something? We are a construct of primal, fae and demon. There are surely some things we could learn that are not immediately obvious?
>>
"Milady, might I be able to request this boon in a later night if need be?"

The woman flips her fan open and peers at you with scrutiny befitting of a noble, "Hmm... Yes... If that is what you wish, You may arrange this boon from me for another night. That is, if you cannot decide on anything for now."

You see the Pastor look to you, his features softening somewhat. He seems unwilling to speak freely...
>>
>>24068226
>>24068239
I'm trying to think of something inconsequential to ask for. We don't need anything, we're a rock. But just denying the favor would be rude, and letting a little girls's nightmares continue for even a few more days while we grow in power is a bit hard for me to just accept.
(didn't consider the nightmares being supernatural, if that were the case we'd have no problems with it, but I'm hoping to get her the psychological support she needs to come to terms with her mother's death)

Or we could defer the favor until we need it.
>>
>>24068288
Thank her. Bring up relocating to the inside of the church to cover up missing from the roof for 24 hours. And then take up a pose and focus entirely on wrestling the new souls until she leaves, at which point talk to Clegane and Alice more freely.

>>24068289
I am thinking there is a hostile fae that lives IN the dreams themselves, we would need dreamwalker to fight such a being.
If her nightmares are mundane in nature then the pastor is a better candidate to solve them then the local nob.
>>
>>24068289
I think she already gets psychological support from the pastor. I was thinking about buying Mind Whisper, Obfuscation and Mind Peer with the next chunk of exp. All of these are useful on their own and it's just another step to dreamwalker from there.
