Good evening /tg/! I hope you're all ready to rock and roll, because I am! It's time for your regularly-scheduled, often-mimicked, never-duplicated Civilization Quest!

You can now applaud and/or cheer wildly.

You are the Long Fangs tribe, a primitive tribe of peoples on the cusp of the Bronze Age. With the assistance of your heroes and the guidance of your gods, it falls to you to guide your people through the ages, steering them through good times and bad, towards their eventual, far-off destiny. Do you think you are up to the task? Can you (to steal a phrase) build a civilization to stand the test of time?

Just realized that we're out of booze.

C) Gather fruit from the flowing glade, make booze.

That's all I've got. Anyone else have a need?
>>
>>24056829
I think we still need to finish that farming clan's hall out in the fields and we wanted to improve our housing quality / carpentry.
On the other hand we started looking into masonry right now, so perhaps we should stick with that for now and just

C) Gather fruit
G) Finish the famer clan's hall
E/G) Look into masonry / try to come up with a way to build a stone wall / attempt it.
>>
>>24056928
Seconding this, we need more booze.
>>
Yo brit, mind tossing us some hard stats? We're trying to compile some spreadsheets and shit that has all the info about the tribe.
>>
>>24056928
I'll second this. Let's see how long it takes the wisest men in our tribe to figure out how to make something two years olds construct with building blocks.
>>
>>24056928
Actually, scrap that fruit gathering, as it is currently winter.

Somebody else got a better suggestion instead? I'd suggest either trying to gather more stone for research purposes or getting normal / tall timber for future construction.
>>
>>24056928

B. Have Derrik and his scouts begin winter "training" by hunting mightier beasts in the forest. I.E. Bears and Boars. He is the wolf god, makes sense that hunting while becoming attuned to his gifts would help them along. And provide some meat and furs, eh?

E. Have the wise ones, in an attempt to speed up their research, look into the possibility of shaping stones into more easily buildable blocks. Perhaps by breaking them with other rocks of different kinds and then attempting to use their tools to shape them even more finely.

G. Continue work on the Tillersfane hall since its just only turned winter and it probably isn't too terribly cold.
>>
>>24057315
Seconding this.
>>
>>24057315
Seconding because this is a good idea selection.
>>
>>24057315
Seconding this now. But just as a reminder, Derrik said that Hrunti's order won't become too big, so we should stop seeing them as the basis for our soon-to-be spec-ops and instead create one around the actual hunters or from scratch.
Perhaps use Hrunti's order as advisors to them in the future.
>>
>>24057351
Or we just keep Hrunti's Order, and the Spec Ops tied to it, Small
>>
>>24057351

Of course. I was just looking at it as more of a way to gather furs for future trades and such. They are a priesthood to a wolf and all, I figured it would be marginally safer to send them than it would be to sent regular, ungifted hunters.
>>
>>24057368
Still, will that even work? Right now we have 5 people around Hrunti. If we don't want to risk the actual shamans then that would leave us with 3 people, because a senior shaman should have an apprentice.

Will 3 spec-oppers be enough? I kind of doubt that. If at all, I think we should keep those as the squad leaders. If we at some point turn into a city state with some thousands of inhabitants, we need more spec-ops than those 3 guys IMO.

>>24057386
Agreed.
>>
>>24057117
Hard stats like what?

>>24056928
Realising the shortage in the berry liquor, some of the tribe venture out to the fruit glade, in the hopes of finding something usable. To their frustration however, they find that with the onset of winter, the fruit that is gone from the trees, rotten to uselessness, or else eaten by the animals of the forest. They return empty-handed.

The Tillersfane family hall is finally completed and the entire family moves in, the building being easily large enough to house them all. The other families grumble somewhat at the new household, wondering why they do not also get such preferential treatment.

The wise ones continue to look into using stone to construct more sturdy walls, but as yet, have no results to show for their experimentation. They seem to be on the edge of a related breakthrough however...

B. Have Derrik and his scouts begin winter "training" by hunting mightier beasts in the forest. I.E. Bears and Boars. It will provide some meat and begin their initiation into the "elite" hunting squad.

E. Have the wise ones, in an attempt to speed up their research, look into the possibility of shaping stones into more easily buildable blocks. Perhaps by breaking them with other rocks of different kinds and then attempting to use their tools to shape them even more finely for a more precise fit. We have some experience with stone cutting so moving up in size shouldn't prove too much of a task, I hope.

I. Lets continue to try and train those damned wolf pups. I feel like they'll be a big help in the future so yeah. Keep at it.

Also, have Perwans priest seek guidance in regards to potentially bringing back fruit trees and bushes to grow in our tribe.

We tried this before to less than spectacular results but perhaps Perwans presence might help us with that.
>>
>>24058048
F) Have a feast with our large amount of food, and at it announce that we will begin building dwelling for each of the clans. The Tillerfane received their's first because they were the only one to be built outside the wall. Every other may bid for their right to go next. This bid can be in any form and must be presented to the wise ones.
G) Begin constructing the house of the clan who wins.
E) Research masonry further.
>>
>>24058260
I have to argue against this, hunting bears and boars are dangerous at the best of times. During the winter this could only end badly.

Also, we will have a moral drop if we don't start building halls for the rest of the clans. I think my idea for having them bid for their dwellings will go over well, and a feast for a moral boost would do us good after the fiasco with the spray folk.
>>
>>24058289
seconding this
>>
>>24058311
I agree with the first part.

But bidding for the halls sounds like trouble waiting to happen. Also who would they bid to anyway?
>>
>>24058349
The wise ones. I can not see this ending good if we choose a clan either. We need to handle this in a way they think is fair, bidding is the most fair I can think.
>>
>>24058289
Bears are hibernating at this time of the year. I'll remove boars readily enough but I think it still stands as a fairly safe option, especially for those blessed by Hrunti.

What would they bid? And why spend several turns working on each individual dwelling when we could simply state that they have taken on a specific role and building a hall for them in the middle of the fields increases their efficiency in raising crops for the tribe.
>>
>>24058388
I see your point. Of course one could argue that people will be pissed either way, because they will of course feel that their own bid is the worthiest.
Oh well, we never miss an opportunity to step into shit anyway.

>>24058415
Fair enough.

>>24058260
Seconding this, but don't hunt boars.
Remember when Derrik said we were lucky with losing only 1 guy to that other bear?
>>
>>24058260
BRITFAG! Remove the hunting boars idea and just keep the bear. They're hibernating and should be fairly weak from that. Plus I'd imagine 5 followers of Hrunti could do fairly well against a groggy bear with their bows and arrows.
>>
>>24058565
I don't want either Derrik or his followers dying on us though.
>>
>>24058603
So we should coddle them and turn them into the safest people of our tribe? We live in a forest filled with beasts both regular and magical, I think hunting a sleeping bear at least has the benefit to taking it by surprise at least. There is danger in everything we do.
>>
>>24058686
We shouldn't coddle them, but hunting boars in the winter is dangerous as fuck. We have had men die doing this in the past, and the bear killed three in one go.

Though a bear pelt would make an excellent gift to the leader of the Spray Folk.
>>
Hey Brit, when is Gerin getting back?
>>
>>24058260
Stuck with nothing to do in the winter months, a band of over a dozen of the bravest hunters nag at Derrik until he finally agrees to take them bear hunting. The result is entirely less than ideal. Tracking bears for some time through the winter snow eventually leads the hunters to a likely cave, but they severely under-estimate the power of their quarry. Bows and arrows seem only to infuriate the beast and while they do eventually bring it down, no less than four hunters fall beneath its mighty paws and three more are badly wounded and require medical attention.

The wise ones achieve a minor breakthrough in their endeavours to work with stone! Their simple innovation is the idea of digging a ditch before the village's palisade, piling the dirt on the near side, to exhaust and slow attackers trying to claim the walls!

The pups, despite growing rapidly, are actually starting to become quite affectionate towards their bold handlers. Even the adults are starting to become slightly more accepting of the humans, although no-where near the level of the pups.

Re-focusing their attentions away from the walls for now, the tribe wisemen instead look into fixing up the village's houses. No immediate breakthroughs are made however and it may take some time before their shift in focus yields results. Meanwhile, impetus towards their neglected project ebbs away...

Two of the hunters wounded hunting the bear hunt make a full recovery, after they are tended to by the wisemen. One sadly succumbs to his wounds and dies.

Some of the villagers are quite alarmed to see the wolf pups loose now! Their handlers have them following them around the village freely, getting them used to large numbers of people. By the time the snow begins to melt in the spring, they are fully domesticated, playing with the village children and following their new owners loyally. Strangely, the Wolfsbane family want nothing to do with them though...

If we really get to constructing forge works, I don't think we'd lose much of our progress in masonry... I don't think we'll forget how to dig ditches, and if we practice our newfound knowledge with building forgeworks, I'd feel safe to say we won't lose much progress. And carpentry is more important right now in my opinion.

E. Back to the stone masonry.

G. Begin construction on a forgeworks.

I. Prepare an exploration mission out towards the plains. Send ten people with a wagon of supplies. Also send instructions to bring back samples of things that they find when possible and search for traces of other inhabitants out there. Use their best judgement about contacting new people.
>>
>>24060939
I think defense is more important than the comfort for our people. Our moral is fairly high and not giving us trouble at the moment.
>>
>>24060939
But the wolves! If we can train the wolves to retrieve and help us hunt, we'll have our food absolutely set forever.

Not to mention that the value of the wolves will increase, and down the line we can sell our famed retrievers to the Spray Folk for lodsemone
>>

Oh shit, just realized my I option should be an A option. Its been forever since we explored obviously.
>>
>>24060958
I can get behind this actually. I will put my support here instead of felling trees. We should still have a lot of lumber from our deforestation earlier.
>>
>>24060958
Exploration is good, so I propose this...

A) Prepare an exploration mission out towards the plains. Send ten people with a wagon of supplies. Also send instructions to bring back samples of things that they find when possible and search for traces of other inhabitants out there. Use their best judgement about contacting new people.

I) Begin training the domesticated pups for offensive combat porpoises and general guarding/hunting

G)Construct the Forgeworks, it will use the new stone forge designs and have an attached hall to it similar to the one the Tillerfane's have.
>>
>>24060958
I like this a lot. Seconded.
>>
>>24060964
Stone walls will take quite some time to research and build with our limited knowledge right now. And I doubt anybody has the equipment to tear down walls right now. A bigger threat to our defense would be our shitty "gate".

>>24060980
20 eurodollars say that the first thing our "trained" wolves will hunt is our sorry asses
>>
>>24060958
I will second this, I feel exploration is needed. Although we should take some of the pups, this will be a good chance to test them and build the bond with their masters.
>>
>>24061038
The wolves can wait. We don't have too many of them at the moment. How about next we build kennels?
>>
>>24061078
Good call, sir.

BRITFAG! Have one or two of those ten people be a person who trained the wolves. This will be an excellent chance to train them even more out in the field.

Obviously bring a couple of the wolves too.
>>
>>24061073
The gate can be handled if we get trading off with the Spray Folk. Start buying straight bronze bars from them instead of tools.
>>
>>24061078
Oh man, I like this as well.
>>
>>24061078
I like the sound of this, we could totally make it full of the FEELS.
>>
>>24060958

>>24061114
Well, I stand by my point that the gate is our biggest safety hazard right now.

And about the bronze and learning it by ourselves... well. I don't think it will be that easy. Perhaps we can trade that knowledge with the ES soon instead and not have too many research projects at once
>>
>>24061178
That's what I'm saying, trade enough bronze and make a bronx gate.
>>
>>24061212

>>24061258
Bronze... what ever. I don't know why it would autocorrect to Bronx.
>>
>>24061427
>gangsta phone
Anyway. I could see merit in both options.
1. We acquire bronze and try to figure it out on our own. Perhaps it takes long and we fail. Or we figure it out better than the other guys that did it and end up with superior products.

2. We trade for the knowledge. It's fast, we don't have to spend time and resources on it. On the other hand, perhaps there's a better way of handling the material and we will never know because we grow lazy and don't experiment on our own.

I'm probably putting too much thought into this.
>>
>>24061525
I'd prefer us figuring it out on our own. Inject our own style into it.
>>
>>24061548
We shall create long fang bronze! Much like Damascus steel but much, much shittier.
>>
>>24061639
So like Damascus Bronze that was forged in Tahiti?
>>
>>24061639
Well, more our own forging and metal working style. I am sure we make things a particular way. I mean, we are the only ones to construct scale armor.
>>
>>24061813
I like the idea, actually. Anything that helps expand our culture cant be a bad thing, I don't imagine.
>>
>>24061929
Also, making our own weapons. Gerin already wields a warhammer, I don't think any other tribe has been seen using war hammers.
>>
>>24060958
Realising they're not going to make any headway in carpentry any time soon, the wisemen return to their research into stone-working, rather than split their efforts.

Seeking to take advantage of the new, stone forges, some of the tribe's more enthusiastic coppersmiths start work on a dedicated forge. In a moment of inspiration, some of the builders investigate the bronze-smith's old residence and make some interesting discoveries from what he left behind...
>Special project available: The abandoned bronze forge

An expedition is put together of the bravest members of the tribe! Their mission; to explore the strange, uncharted plains; to seek out new tribes and new civilizations and to boldly go where no Long Fang has gone before! Ten of the best the tribe has to offer, a cart laden down with food and supplies and three of the fast-growing wolf pups set out to the open fields, perhaps never to see their homes ever again...

Work progresses on the idea of using stone to build. Between the construction of the forge however and the difficulty of building on such a scale, progress is exceptionally slow.

Rina and Derrik both see to the fishers and hunters respectively and their guidance and magic, both parties return a healthy amount of food for the village's stores.

Though much of the bronze-smith's belongings and secrets are long gone, the villagers looking over the abandoned hut do discover something quite interesting. The design of the abandoned forge gives them several pointers for their own construction and forgotten in a corner, they discover a few pebbles of malachite ore and a strange, different substance they cannot identify... There is a little suspicion however, that it may have something to do with the secret technique of bronze-forging.
