Ladies and gents, welcome back to the next installment of Demi Quest! I finished watching the entirety of M*A*S*H to prep for life on the base.

The previous threads can be found here:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Alex%20Hanger

LAST TIME, we arrived at base and helped fend off an attack, then pulled guard duty while waiting for the commander to return. On his return we were assigned our tent (which we share with our partner, Danny Melon), and told that our first mission would be tonight. After dropping off our gear at the tent we went to look around, getting something to eat as we met with the rest of the cast. We were shooed back to our tent, where we took a nap.

We awaken with the sun near setting. Melon is asleep on her cot, and you have an hour or so before our mission.

What would you like to do?

A fine day in this man's Empire, gentlemen!

Let's wake up Melon and grab some food, no soldier fights on an empty stomach!
>>
>>23999699
We ate just before our nap, I think we're okay.
>>
>>23999714

If so, I suggest we wake Melon and set about pre-mission preparation.

Duty demands diligence beyond what is merely asked for!
>>
>>23999743
Fair enough. Wake Melon up, prepare ourselves, then go check in with 098 and ensure our Demi is all set and ready to go.

While we are here, have some art I had a drawfag cook up of intrepid young Alex and Imperator.
>>
>>23999838
Awesome.
>>
>>23999604
Waking her up sounds like a good idea.
>>
You decide to wake Melon, shaking her shoulder lightly. "On the bounce, Cheshire." You idly remark.

You barely make it out of the way as she flies out of bed and salutes. She looks around and slowely lowers her hand. "...that happened." She says, coughing lightly. "I might be a little... Excited. Yeah, let's go with excited." She admits, as she follows you out.

"Don't worry. I am too. It's our first reall mission." You admits, grinning. "I was planning on grabbing a quick snack, then visiting the Hangar to make sure 098 and Imperator are ready. You in?" You ask, heading towards the mess. She nods, following you in.

"I wonder what we'll be doing. Do you think they'd actually give us anything important for our first mission?" She asks, and you both grab a light meal, biscuits with cheese.

What do you want to do? Tell her what Pitcher thought your mission would be?

>>23999838
Holy shit, draw-faggotry of Demi Quest? Well, that made my day.
>>
>>23999838
Ace looks like a pretty cool guy there. Though I didn't know our Demi had chicken legs.
>>
>>24000120
Sure, talk about what we heard from Pitcher while we eat and get ready.
>>
>>24000120
Tell her that being ready for anything is a good trait to have going into a mission.
>>
>>24000120

Inform her of what we know, no secrets between partners, we need absolute trust from so close a comrade.

Admit that despite our nervousness we are looking forward to further proving ourselves.
>>
>>24000120
Don't see why we wouldn't tell her. The more prepared we all are the better
>>
"I'm nervous." You admit. "Excited. But I'm looking forward to another chance to prove we belong here. Prove we've got the skill and talent to succeed." You say, devouring your meal. You sit back as she nods. You think for a moment. "Hey, you remember I mentioned talking to Pitcher?" She nods, humming around her biscuit. "She mentioned that when she, Volunteer, and Retter were out, they spotted a rare breed of Abomination."

You explain her thoughts and reasoning as you both head out of the mess. "Makes sense. We're a sniper and a spotter. Having us hunt down a potential threat would be a good test, as well as just a good idea." She explains. "I had 511, my Engineer, pull my radar and replace it with a motion-sensor. I figured with all the trees, a radar wouldn't do much good." She says.

"Nice. I had 098 modify my optics with a low-light system, night-vision." You explain. She hums. "Clever." She admits, as you enter the hanger. She breaks off to visit Cheshire and her Engineer, while you head to the still curtained Imperator. You can hear a loud whirl, then a BANG, every couple of seconds.

"098? Everything ready over there?" You call. He peaks out over the curtain, with a large, tube like tool in his hand. "Five minutes, I'm attaching the temporary optics enhancer now." He signs, slipping back below.

He can hear you, obviously, if you want to talk to him while you wait on him to finish. Or you could check on something else.
>>
>>24000424
Check up on our weapons.
>>
>>23999838
where are Imperator's built in wrist guns and rifle other than that this is great.
>>
>>24000424
While I think 098 is moe, he's busy right now.

Did we ever get a sidearm?
>>
>>24000700
It is stored in Imperator's cockpit, under the seat.
>>
booyah, I finally get to participate in one of these. Been an avid archive reader so far.
>>
>>24000424

>>
>>24000424
doesn't look like we can be of much use at Imperator. Go check on cheshire. I don't believe we've actually taken the time to properly check it out so far, now would be a good time (though do correct me if I'm mistaken on this).
>>
>>24000830
>>24000883

Seconded/Thirded.

We should not interrupt our Engineer's duties, time would be better spent discussing procedure or building rapport with Melon.
>>
You decide to go ahead and check on Cheshire and its crew. Cheshire is a thin Demi, with thin iron armor. It's proportions make the chest, where the cockpit is, seem large, along with the hips, so as to help support it's weight. It's legs are digitigrade, with two large front toes and one large back one, and it's arms end in five fingered hands. It's face has two orange eyes, and a thick disk is on the back, presumably the new motion-sensor.

"Everything alright, Ace?" Melon asks, turning from her Engineer. You nod. "098 is busy, so I figured I could check up on you. Is everything good?" You ask. She nods. "511 got the sensor finished, and all the weapons are loaded and ready." She muses.

"Awesome." You admit. You spend a bit talking to her, until 098 motions you over. "The temp rig is ready." He motions to the head. It has a large monocle placed over the eye, bolted to the sides of the head with a great deal of wires coming out of it to the back. "It's not pretty, not in the broadest sense, but it works, and it will hold till I can make it an internal system." He explains.

If there is anything you want to ask, explain, order, or look over, now is the time. Last action before you have to mount up and report to Retter at the edge of camp.
>>
>>24001081
I'll say it again we should check our weapons. Double checking equipment should be standard practice.
>>
>>24001081

Note to 098 that the monocle is a classy touch, and we approve greatly.

Go over our weapons one last time before the call.
>>
>>24001081
I would suggest adding a top hat while we're at it.

No, not really, it wouldn't fit the quest, but if it had been a sillier take, hell yeah.

Maybe just check out the night vision, calibrate it to our liking or whatever has to be done.
>>
> It's proportions make the chest, where the cockpit is, seem large, along with the hips, so as to help support it's weight.

Girl robots for girl pilots?

"Not pretty? Oh Ninety-Eight, you could affix it with twine and I wouldn't know the difference. Thank you for your consideration." Let's go hook up with Retter.
>>
>>24001173

Nonsense, the monocle is classy and he should know his fine Patrician taste is noted!
>>
"...actually, I like the monocle. It's classy." You admit. He shrugs. "If you like, I could reinforce and modify it so it will be permanent instead of internal." He signs. You think on it.

"Our weapons ready?" You ask, going around to the side and check the shotguns. He nods. "Fully loaded. Fifty rounds for each arm, twenty for the rifle." He explains. "There is an ammo-box on the lower back, I can reload it if we run out and we can get a quiet moment." He explains.

You nod and chat with him a bit more as you load up. I need a Soul roll, 2 for Soul, +1 for 098 helping, and +1 for you getting used to it and getting better at it.

You connect with your Demi, breathing deep of it's breath, your chest beating with its power. No feeling compares to that first step as you move down off the rack. Your weight, great as it is, is easily supported by your might. Rounds for your weapons slide down into place as you walk out of the hanger behind Cheshire.

"Imperator, everything good on your end?" Cheshire asks, rolling her shoulders and depositing her gun on her back. "I feel great." She... purrs? It's something akin to a purr, atleast. "Something feels different about this connection. I'm liking it." She says.

"I feel good. I always do." You reply, flexing and stretching. You approach Retter, who leads you to the forest's edge.

"Your mission is to go hunting. Spotted on our mission was a rare breed of Abomination. Quadruped, structure was a cross between a man and a cat. It looked to be a close combat type, large claws. Typical white skin of an Abomination, no eyes. Your job is to hunt it, kill it, and then find the summoners or summoner and execute them." He explains, motioning to the jungle. "It was spotted five miles out. If you cannot find the target you are to return at sunrise."

Any questions?
>>
>>24001188

I was trying to get across, that he could have half-assed it and we wouldn't have a clue. The fact that he's concerned about it shows some actual effort went into it.
>>
>>24001518

" I don't imagine we will need it, sir, but is there any support available should the situation become more than Cheshire and I can handle?"
>>
>>24001518
If we find other targets do we engage?
>>
>>24001287
I have a multi part mechanics question. 1 If melon had the motion sensor on her craft from the start would it be the same point value?
2 if it is the same point value did it cost her xp to change it or just time? If not why is it better as opposed to differently as good?
3 What are the rules for taking out a system we spent xp on? Do we get all of it back, some of it, none of it? What would undoing a change like that cost if we don't get all of the xp back?

There is obviously a time cost to any of these options.
>>
>>24001518
>>24001556
>>24001547
these then we are good.
>>
>>24001582
It cost XP, and is better than radar. The motion sensor can pick up a lot more than the radar could, and can't be baffled quite so easily. Taking out a system XP is sent on supplies you with half the XP spent on it, and it can be replaced at any time for the same amount. Example: Your Night-Vision would give you 1XP if it is taken out, and could be put back on for 1XP.
>>
>>24001631
cool that makes sense one follow up if we took out the night vision now before we get any other bosses to our sensor suit would it cost 1 xp or 2 to add on say the extra sight range?
>>
>Quadruped, structure was a cross between a man and a cat.

Is it a sphinx? Do we even know what a sphinx is?
>>
"In the off chance we require it, should we expect support of any sort?" You ask.

"Send out a mayday on all channels, we'll have any available assets send to help you." He replies. "But you will be a long way out, so do not expect an immediate response."

"And if we encounter additional targets, should we engage?" You question.

"Avoid it if you are out-numbered, but otherwise you're cleared for all combat you believe is required." He explains.

With your questions answered, you set out. Melon follows close behind.

YOUR MISSION: Bring down the Rare Abomination, and execute it's Summoner or Circle. You have roughly ten hours from dusk until dawn, then must report back to base.

How will you handle the hunt? You have only a broad area where you believe the target may be, so this will require some thinking.

>>24001735
One.
>>
>>24001847

First order of business is locating high ground, and exploiting it to reconnoiter larger areas than would other wise be possible. Due to the nature of the mission, sending Cheshire too far ahead is inadvisable. We should stick to a close formation.
>>
>>24001847
Use a grid searching pattern with Chesire coming in from one end and us coming in from the other. If anyone finds anything they are to radio the other immediately.
>>
>>24001947

I am opposed to this, if we run into a CQC expert combatant without immediate support, it will go poorly for us.
>>
>>24001947
We shouldn't split up, that's a bad move.

You decide it wisest to move to a high point and exploit your sniping specialty. You head towards the operating area, eyes peeled for motion. The jungle is quiet, feeling empty, fauna likely driven away by the heavy steps of the war-machines. You check your maps and networking, and decide on a large tree for your nest.

You boost Cheshire up to a massive branch, and she ducks down to help you up. It's nice and simple, you help her, then she helps you, until you are halfway up the redwood-sized tree.

"We should be good up here. The paint and foliage will keep us good and hidden, and we've got a good view of everything." Cheshire notes, drawing her rifle and setting her sensor wide.

I need a Mind roll. 3, +1 for your sniper specialty.

You keep your eyes down, watching the trees below. You can't find anything, as you watch, and wait. You know something has to be out there, the prey you're after. It's go to be there. It takes time. Time more than you wanted to spend, four hours toughly, before you spot a hint of white slipping between trees.

A low, slick, white, shape slips between trunks, just barely in sight. You lose sight of it as it ducks further into the jungle. You alert Cheshire, who hums. "We could wait for it to show itself again, and wait for a shot. Or we could be more active in hunting it." She muses.

Action?
>>
>>24002375

" Go hunt, I know you want to. But stay in range of Imperator, I want you to flush it so I can make a shot."

Send Cheshire to flush the creature, but ensure that Melon does not move too far out of sight.

"Yeah, no, yes... ah, I don't know. I can't continue like this." She groans. "I can't..." She sighs.

She's probably feeling a little lousy about getting so heavily damaged on her first mission...

"Don't feel bad about it, things went bad and we pulled through, we're both alive, and we get to pay those fuckers back another day."

Aside from that, stay alert, last thing we need is to get ambushed with Cheshire shredded.

" Melon, this is on me. I failed to see where the foe was coming from and you paid the price. I don't want you thinking you did anything wrong. My plan, my responsibility, unfortunately your price to pay."

"Melon, let Five-Eleven know I'm sorry for all the work he'll have to do re-enclosing the cockpit."

511's a guy, right?
>>
"This is on me, Melon. My plan, my responsability. I failed to see the enemy before it got to you, and you paid the price." You say, sighing. She sighs. "Not just you. I wasn't watching as close as I should keeping my eyes ahead too much. When it proved too strong for me, I should have fell back for you to get a better shot." She reasons.

You both argue back and forth for a bit, trying to talk out who's fault it is, and how it happened. Eventually you agree. Things went bad, on everyone's part, but you pulled through, and you won.

"And uh, tell 511... Well, sorry for all the work he's going to have to do." You say. You hear her laugh loudly. "Oh man, you should have seen his face just now! Oh, I'm sorry 511, I didn't mean to mock you." She apologizes.

You head back, tired, angry, but satisfied. First mission was a success for the most part.

And... I hate to say it, hate hate hate to say it, but I've been sick most of the day, and this seems like a decent point to stop. Wednesday, same time, and hopefully my illness will not be acting up.

Good news, that was almost an easy win against a boss monster. So you guys get 2XP. Think on what you want to spend it on, eh?

So what upgrades should we get?
>>
>>24004328

I suggest some sort of aiming aid, an attachment for our rifle perhaps.
>>
>>24004376
the range sight upgrade will do that in a lot of cases and other things besides.
>>
>>24004623

Then I suggest that. More rolls for Sniping will be much appreciated.

do you guys like the Gilly clock the perceptiveness sensors or the other sensor thing i cant remember something else or to save the other point?
>>
>>24004794

I would be fine with anything that improves our aiming rolls.

Also, can you please use punctuation? I do not mean to be snobbish, but it can be very difficult to read your posts and that can be easily remedied by a comma here and capitalized letter there.

Sorry I will try to do better.
