The parade began, as all parades do, with a bellowing of trumpets and horns, every loudspeaker set up in the last four hours thundering triumphantly as your men assembled in their battle dress. The feudal peasants, standing in large crowds to the edges of the street, stared in awe and no small amount of fear as your vehicles rolled past them. Your mighty tank in particular drew awe, and several reached out to try and touch it, only to be held back by the soldiers standing at attention, holding the crowd in order.

Your ring translates their words of awe, which serve to inflate your ego. You are Oberst Hans Landa, civil engineer and Oberst of the Third Reich, sent forth by means of a magical gate into a land of magic and monsters. A land of apparent fantasy, but the violence and depravity of which has assured you it is very, very real.

You stand now atop your command vehicle, the armored truck rolling along in the extensive convoy towards the front gate of the keep, where Knight Commander Beregen stands with several of his fellow paladins. Paladins of the various gods, apparently, at least according to Siegfried.

The nobles and aristocracy stand off to the side, surrounded by two squads of your men, the soldiers standing vigil over the various merchants and aristocrats that now stand silent, not daring to murmur as your exotic melody sweeps across the city with near-deafening power.

The banners of the Reich flutter freely, the flags flowing in the breeze as the skies overhead begin to show the first signs of impending snowfall. Your men have discovered a number of tailors and similar clothing stockpiles that could be improvised into winter gear, albeit mismatching winter gear. The clothing looks almost Russian in nature, but that's hardly an immediate concern.

For you have arrived at the quickly erected stage, your officer's sword in hand as one of the men, equipped with your third translation ring, speaks into the microphone.

Find the Magi Arthur and bite him, bite him to death.

>Please pardon outdated image due to LAPTOP OBERST

"And this, new citizens of the Reich, is the exchanging of swords." He states, "Signifying the mutual bond of arms our people shall share in!" His voice booms across the gathered crowds, thousands of people staring at you as you draw your sword, presenting it hilt-first to Knight Commander Beregen. The man returns the gesture with his own mithril sword. You both clasp the other's sword in one smooth gesture, the man's sword, while much less elegant, almost as light as a feather.

And just like that, to the applause of your men (and stares of the crowd), the ceremony is complete.

Leaving you simply to ascend the keep, and take a seat within the throne therein. As you return swords, the nobles and merchants seem more restless than ever with each step you take towards the keep. Gunther is currently on a break, enjoying some fine wine liberated from the keep's cellar, but is keeping an eye on both you and the nobles, his men presenting a solid protective detail between the two.

Redding will soon be entirely under your thumb.

However, as you approach the keep's entrance, you see Siegfried emerge from the tower, a rather awed look on his face. "Oberst!" He manages to hiss, as your procession continues to the heavy wooden front doors.

"A machine-- a massive machine! I've found details to it within the laboratory the former Magi were based out of." He murmurs, speaking in hurried tones. "Something massive-- something grand. Incomplete, but grand indeed, sir."

Gunther speaks up as well, "Some of the locals are going to want to talk to you soon, sir. After you take that throne, of course." He adds, shooting a glare back at the crowd of nobles and merchants barely contained out in front of the gates.

The machine clearly needs our immediate attention. SHINY THING!!!!

The petitioners should be seen in the order that they arrived in. Notably, NOT in order of rank. Efficiency will be rewarded. Let's Vetinari this up a little and let them sweat for a few minutes.
>>
>>23997626

Yeah it's on suptg.
>>
All right, in this order - speak with Sigfried, then with nobles, then with merchants/artisans.

Finally with the Knight Commander, on where he and his paladins stand. I mean we know about the Town Watch - but not about them
>>
>>23997643
I sort of agree, allow them to organize themselves. Simply allow them to send forth themselves in whatever order they prefer.

Will probably be quicker, and without messing to many egomaniac feathers up.

I do agree with your point on the shiny machine. Dispatch engineers to check it out, with Siegfried ofcourse.
>>
>>23997643
The machine is not going anywhere, lets have a word with the nobles/merchants to get a hold on the political situation, we should look for collaborators.

Then we will turn our full attention to the Wündermaschine!
>>
>>23997720

Again, let them sweat for a few minutes - THEY see us at OUR convenience. And there's a shiny thing!

One thing that is important is making sure we stay on Gunther's good side: the man is an irreplaceable asset and his squad DID have to slog through shit. If any nobles proved less than cooperative and had to be put down, which is the case, they should at least get some spoils.
>>
>>23997584
the machine is nice, but first we need to firmly establish control in the region,
they may be plotting against us as we speak
>>
>>23997757
Seconded.
>>
>>23997775
Oh, so if we ask them immediately "Are you plotting against us by any chance?" They will say anything except No sir, not at all. They can wait a bit.

This.
>>
>>23997792

>>

We had our 150 kg killing machine break into their dwellings, rounding them up and listen to some strange foreign music, while seeing somebody in strange clothes take over the city they live in.

I think they have a good idea about who´s in charge.
>>
>>23997841

Well, changes in management tended to leave the nobility and city fathers alone. We need to make sure that this isn't just "You pay taxes to Lord Hitler instead of Lord Fancypants now, other than that business as usual"
>>
>>23997757
>spoils
Give them medals, soldiers will fight long and hard for a bit of ribbon. But anyway we need to increase our resource production, the Reich needs rare-metals, iron, oil, food and valuables to trade.
>>
>>23997915

Sending back some magic items and some mithril is paramount. HQ will wet their pants if that stuff is any good back home. If not, we should call this an oil operation.

Actually, one thing to do would be grabbing a random peasant and chucking them across the Gate.
>>
>>23997894
Perhaps starting a school would be nice, the children of the land could be of more use when indoctrinated and further trained to be a skilled workforce instead of using the plow
>>
>>23997915
Do we have the authority to? At the very least they should get first pick of any spoils from the nobles who resisted. The rest should be sent back up the chain of command, at the very least, it's foreign art with a completely unknown style and someone high up will appreciate it.

We can not give him a medal for this. All he did for capturing Redding was scouting, waiting in the sewers and then rounding the nobles up. If we give him a medal for this, we will start like the commies, pic related. I believe that lauding his efforts instead is better.

You speak with Siegfried as you enter the Keep doors. The interior of the Keep is lavish, not as lavish as Magi Arthur's tower, but lavish enough that your feet walk across silken red carpets, the banners of the old Baron still hanging proudly. Your men will set to work in removing those soon enough.

A large granite statue, depicting a man in his mid-fifties, stands proudly in the center of the keep's atrium. Stairwells spiral up around the statue, which serves as a fountain as well, the man's crown having several small holes from which the water cascades down his short-cropped head of hair. The detail on the statue is rather impeccable, and you notice a faint resemblance to the youthful looks of Baron Farnsworth.

There's no plaques on the statue, however, so you move onward. The nobles are escorted in your wake as you ascend the stairs, your thoughts darting about as Siegfried speaks with you.

"It's some sort of machine-- I am not certain," He remarks, "It doesn't appear to be complete, but its elements are strewn across the facility in question, alongside what I believe to be incomplete blueprints. They were attempting to develop some sort of..." He gesticulates animatedly, "Guardian! A protector... But made of stone and metal. Magic. I am uncertain," He remarks, "But it seems they were close to fruition."
>>
>>23997991
And this is worth a lot. We can make sure that everyone who is able to read our blueprints is indoctrinated enough that he will hardly rebel. And without those guys, technology will fail sooner or later.
>>
>>23998009
You simply nod as you arrive to where your men told you to go ahead of time: A main hallway, secured by two portcullises that were now opened, that led directly to a massive throne. The painted tiles of the floor were a trenchgun blast of colors, and your feet squeak quietly across the immaculate tile. Servants flee into the various side rooms at your approach, the nobles and merchants getting more and more unruly as you near the wood-paneled, velvet-cushioned seat.

"You can't do that!" One noble calls out, "You're not of royal blood!"
"He's a foreigner! He can't just--"
"... What will it mean if he does?"

You catch something out of the corner of your eye: What look to be twins of some sort, dressed in demure dress attire, something not entirely unfit for what you might see back on Earth, but clearly of a local merchant styling. A male and a female, both with brown hair and green eyes. They seem to be conversing candidly, oblivious of your soon-to-be-seating upon the throne.

The merchants and nobles increase the fervor of their words, "We're next in line for the throne! How can he so blatantly trod on lines of succession?"
"... He'll nullify our trade agreements if he sits on the throne!"

So on and so forth do they carry on, right as you sit on the verge of, well, sitting.

The point is that feudalism was, for the most part, about loyalty to a sovereign or to a bloodline.

We want to make it clear that while nobles are welcome to keep their fancy titles on their calling cards, the worth of any new citizen of the Reich is essentially proportional to what they do for the fatherland. Once we're estabilished, we should make it clear that the lowest peasant can rise to command a brigade or a factory if they are smart and tough enough.

"A golem?" You ask, thinking back on ancient Jewish mythology.

"Possibly. Mention to such things has been made before, but it is not any golem myth I have heard of." Siegfried replies, "And it appears... incomplete. Disassembled, rather, though I have seen many components to it strewn up across the lab."

You pause in thought, "Can it be converted to our use?"

He contemplates it, "... Perhaps. I will require many minds beyond my own to investigate it properly. Once the science staff arrive... though Hans appears to have ideas of his own." He adds.

The twins, in the background, look towards you at your inquiry.
"Diplomacy." The woman remarks.
"Lines of succession." The man adds.
"Succession, or secession?" She remarks to her counterpart.
"Could be both." He adds with a wry smile.

They both look away from you in unison, as you're confronted with the blathering hordes of the nobles and merchants before you, kept in check by your men.

True, but at the same time, they have to understand that this is not an ordinary change in management; this is a chance in management STRUCTURE.

"Tell me-- Those twins. What language are they speaking?" You ask, the soldier glancing over in the direction of...

And they're gone. Had they simply walked off into one of the side rooms?

"What twins, sir?" He asks, looking slightly confused.

You simply turn back towards the natives. "I'll have a desk and chair brought forward-- and push the throne back." You state simply, "We will not rule as previous methods. We will rule in a manner conductive to business." You assert.

"We are certainly no kings, nor can we just take a throne." You remark, smiling, as your audience stares warily at you. "Sitting on that throne will tell you that we have the same form of government-- that things will be the same as they have been before."

You slowly shake your head, smiling broadly as the looks of the various persons before you become laced with confusion. "We do not. So! You had best be getting used to the changes." You state, several servants hurrying out with a rather nice-looking desk. Apparently it once belong to the city's bursar.

Not anymore! The lacquered oak desk, with its dedicated inkpot and numerous drawers, plus the rather comfortable high-backed cherry wood chair, are now firmly situated in front of the throne that sits empty.

"I am commander Landa of the glorious Wehrmacht-- and by refusing to throw away your lives when faced by our superior teutonic might, you have joined our Reich! Much like the Romans, our ancestors, allies will be treated well-- enemies, mercilessly. Those conquered shall be treated as a resource." You announce.

The room is silent for a split second. It is then that the most enterprising individuals speak up, lesser nobles that see a chance for higher status when they know it.

"House Londo shall ally with the Reich!"
"House Winterhold will ally with the Reich!"
"The Guild of Artificers shall gladly join the Reich!"

These concerns would surely matter if I had the intentions of ruling as your traditional rulers do. I am no monarch and I have no such aspirations. The throne only represents the idea of power to me.

As you settle into your desk, watching the affirmations of loyalty roll out, you debate the merits of assigning spoils to your men, particularly in the form of local womenfolk. Though not to the standard of German women, they might suffice for the purposes of comfort for the men... but then, you hear a lone voice amongst the crowd. Then another, then another... and a third.

Three lone voices call out,
"Where is your sense of national loyalty?" One remarks, an apparent lordling of some note judging by his attire.
"Where is your ethical fortitude?" A merchant thunders.
"Your pride in the Empire?" A second noble chirps. Words that echo throughout the room in contrast with your own.

Words that fall on deaf ears, as the majority of the nobles abruptly turn in place, either swayed by your words or swayed by what your words offer them in terms of advancement.

"Our loyalty belongs to the Reich." One of the first to speak announces, "For it shall give us what the Baron never could!"

While the supermajority support is reassuring to your future rule, you still have three dissenting voices. Three factions within your city that seem to be heavily inclined against your rulership.

Just how shall you deal with them?
>>
>>23999348
It's obvious the Empire will eventually know we have taken their town.

I say offer these nobles who still swear faith to the Empire the chance to leave. They know nothing of our magic or technology, simply our show of force and our ideals.
>>
>>23999348
Have the all the men of their families shot, and their women the first prizes for the soldiers.

>>23999104
>It sickens me that such weak people can assume to power

That ought to make an impact.

Also, we will subdue them economically till they relent, clearly showing that whoever allies with us will see prosperity and those who not will only decline.

Merciless to our enemies.
They are not our enemies, they are surrendered. Treat them as you would want to be treated, with respect and the honors of war, and the empire will hear of our merit.

It will give us a better chance at convincing other towns to surrender and diplomacy with the empire as we buy time for more weapons and resources.
>>
Look, now while I like us being semi Cartoon Nazis - you know - goose march, turning a castle into our HQ, conducting weird nazi SUPASCIENCE and all, I don't like to see us turn into Nazi cartoon villains. No rape and other shit. Let them be, even if they stay or they leave. They are LESS dangerous than the ones who openly displayed loyalty in a matter of seconds - same people could change sides again tomorrow. Now if we can turn in time the people of conviction...our rule will be solid
>>
>>23999348
Ask them how much such thing really matters, would they follow incompetent leaders who send their children into certain death, fated to lie in a shallow mass grave as dogs. Would it be worth to sacrifice loyal servants to a cause that only views you as pawns, to be sacrificed when it is convenient?

Ask them what the empire could possibly offer that would be worth to march into oblivion.

Because we cannot possibly conceive anything like that, other than insanity. We ourselves would be glad to give our lives for the Reich should that moment come, but it is not something we are looking forward too, and neither would the Reich see a reason to throw away a loyal and competent asset for a lost cause.
>>
>>23999440
It leaves an example. Fill their hearts with fear, their minds with images of what happens when you try to sabotage the Reich's mission. We need to contrast the generosity with which we treat those who work with us against those who work against us.

Do you want to be Americans fucking up in Iraq for years, or do you want to be Germans who occupied France in a matter of days and still managed to win a war against the rest of the world for years?
>>
>>23999481

Your thoughts swing wildly. Murder! Executions! Confiscation and brutal tortures upon their families and their houses, to emphasize just what scale of threat you present to those who mistreat you.

As you debate just what to do with them, you speak up.

"What is it that binds your loyalty so closely to the Empire, as compared to the rule of the Reich?" You ask, gesturing calmly from your seat, arms folded together on top of your desk.

"The Empire is vast-- it is powerful." The noble states simply, "Its armies will wipe away your conquest here in due time, regardless of whatever tools you may wield."

The other lord speaks up next, "My brother speaks true. Not only is the Empire far stronger than you, but it also has much more to offer. Your tools and golems may look impressive, but you still seek to undermine our status, our very way of life! We will not forsake all that we know for the sake of what we might potentially gain."

The merchant seems slightly less convinced, speaking up, "The Empire is very severe on those it views as traders. I would be deprived of my livelihood and my business-- I would also stand to lose my fleet." He tells you simply, "I am invested in more areas than Redding alone, especially in Swordhenge."

To the nobles in that order

1 "That is probably correct - I shall not boast, proclaiming our superiority, but rather let action speak for itself. Empires rise and fall. However, we did not came here seeking conflict - conflict was visited upon us in the shape of the Baron's army forcing us to retaliate. Hostilities need not continue.

2. What you say is true - especially for the reasons you said. This is why I'm not having you executed, exiled or worse. You are men of with pride, belief and conviction - the ideals that we seek ourselves.

3. Risk is part of a trader's life. True, you may lose your fleet, you may lose many of your holdings, yet you may be among the first to reach a market that has never heard of your WHOLE world. Consider the gains - to be one of the privileged few, to that of being one of the many.

Look at the third party "You will be glad to know that Swordhedge is next on our list. Wouldn't it be glorious if the takeover would go as smoothly there as it did in Redding? No losses, no burned fleets and businesses?"

To the second, "I do not seek to undermine your way of life. I already promised Herr Knight Commander Beregen that as long as the people do not violently oppose me, we will not touch the nobles, the guildhouses and the temples. Rest assured, whatever your business in this city is, it can only strive and prosper when allied with the Reich and it will be mutually beneficial alliance. Please, just see what we can offer you before you make harsh judgements."

To the third. Smile more viciously right now. "The power you saw, the incredible golems you saw, the amazing weapons and disciplined soldiers you saw? An amazing sight, right? A grand, incredible army?
Well.... I would like you know that what you saw is such an insignificant part of the entire Reich's might, that if my force were completely eliminated, it wouldn't even put a dent in the entire German force. Oh, thats simple. whip out a map and a few battlefield propaganda films and explain that to call our current forces a fraction of German might is a laughable understatement. Heck we slaughter the barons forces near effortlessly while outnumbered, since then we have been heavily reinforced and we shall only grow more numerous and powerful. Were the full might of Germany directed against the empire it would be conquered or rendered a wasteland within the year. We,(gesture to the men) are merely here to explore a curiosity. Were we an army of conquest we would be half way to the capital on a road paved of shattered armies.

To the merchaint, explain that if his investments in Swordhenge are so vital he should wait a month or two and rethink his stance. An empire is built by armies but it is the merchants that hold it together and Germany knows this well.

A race of midgets? That's objectively inferior.
>>
>>23999967

We should show one big parade on some large bedsheets in a piazza at some point.

And battleships. If there's something awe-inspiring to someone who has seen what a tank can do, is something that is obviously the same concept, at sea, five hundred times the size.
>>
>>23999975

They are manly as fuck, work insane hours because they WANT to, are master metalworkers and hold their drink better than most anyone.
>>
>>23999975
A race of midgets alone yes. If the dwarves were just some dirt in a hole dwellers certainly.

A race of intelligent, hardworking midgets, stronger than their size, who build monoliths and forge great works and marvels of industry?

Inferior by blood, but not by merit. They are honorary Aryans.

For the recalcitrant nobles, they're civilians, we can't stop them from leaving, but they should know any attempt to combat us will put them in the "enemy combatant" column and be dealt with accordingly. Should they wish to leave, per our laws of conflict, they'll be required to surrender all war materiel besides that required for immediate self-defense and any military personnel with them will become prisoners of war.

In other news, I made thing for what I hope will be our force strength in the months after Swordhenge, any questions about it?
>>
>>23999902
We should put efficiency before racial politics. If it interferes with our interests, ignore it.

I like this.
>>
>>23999984

I mean get a video of battleship of course. If we need an ironclad we can probably build one when we need it (or at least an armored barge to put a tank on).

Basically, when we get propaganda material, we should recommend "Easy on the speeches, plenty of Albert Speer buildings and marching warriors".

No flying things yet though, let's keep that in reserve. This gives us an irreplaceable chance of a second culture shock when they've gotten used to tanks and artillery.
>>
>>23999997
>>23999996
They are basically Jews. Jews are plenty industrious, but that's not a good thing. The dwarves are a bunch of big nosed midgets that would backstab us at the quickest opportunity.
>>
>>23999984
>>24000025
They could just call it an illusion on whatever we call a crystall ball.

Nah, just ask them to stay for a month. By then we'll easily convince them with a better standard of livining.

Show them the luxuries they can afford with their wealth, that will pacify them.
>>
>>23999998

This, those who leave, leave empty handed. However, we do not want people to say "They didn't want to kill them so they left them to the wolves", there's no loss on our part to leave them mount and blade. What are they going to do, charge at us?
>>
>>24000025
Hey, that's an awesome idea.

We have the propaganda team set up a screen and a projector right in this room and show them the latest Wochenschau. This should do the trick.
>>
>>23999938
There's a difference between "they're going to attack this city" and "if they are going to continue their conquest, this city will be next". If the enemy is unsure of your intentions, they must split their resources more broadly in case of the unexpected.

Hell, we might not even want Swordhenge yet. We might decide we want to sit and build up for a few months before doing anything. Remember, our goal here in Fantasyland is to provide resources for the Reich in its war on Earth, not conquest. Don't overextend.
>>
>>24000044

That's possible. But they stay as prisoners, of course. They'll get two/three meals a day and a cot, but no more.

The most hardworking Jews and Jews in HQ were already granted honorary aryanship. It was the non industrious ones, the beggars and the poor, who were cleansed.

But all the dwarves here are hardworking, and not poor. Can we just stop talking about it until after we defeat the Empire?

I semi-agree. That just means that they'll betray when someone makes a better offer. We want to build loyalty.

We promised a fair but stern treatment.

How about we leave them a choice -- leave with your pockets full, or remain as prisoners for a month, with the understanding that then you will be released and allowed to work to regain your position.

Much as I still think the tripartite choice should be in force.

To be a monster, or to be a saint. You look to Siegfried, then to Gunther, the men standing to either side of your desk.

The air becomes palatably colder as you look towards the men speaking their objections. The crowd parts but for those three, the some hundred-strong group splitting cleanly in half at your gaze.

To the first: "That is probably correct - I shall not boast, proclaiming our superiority, but rather let action speak for itself. Empires rise and fall. However, we did not came here seeking conflict - conflict was visited upon us in the shape of the Baron's army forcing us to retaliate. Hostilities need not continue. However, if we must, then we shall annihilate them over and over again. Keep in mind that you have not yet truly seen what powers we wield, and what progress our rule brings. How many of you died through diseases, hunger, bandits, and battles? What could you possibly reach in your lives, if you continue to serve the Empire? You finally elect on your course of action, just as you consider how to best impress the locals.

"Very well, then." You state simply, reclining in your seat. "Know that while we are but a fraction of the full power of the Reich, and that even if we were to be destroyed, our loss would be nary more than a footnote in the greater numbers of our nation," You assert for the second noble's sake, "This city shall come to prosper. It shall prosper vastly, and beyond any other city. Our sciences will revolutionize what is had here-- and while we will be fair in trading our goods for your coin, we will not tolerate a derisive presence within our walls."

Your words ring final, "I cannot expect to sway your loyalty instantly, but I will not allow you to undermine the Reich's rule. If you insist on doing so, then you shall be exiled, left with naught but a mount and sword to carry you where you shall go. You will leave this city empty-handed."

And just like that, the merchant and the lesser noble step aside back into the crowds. The senior aristocrat simply stares at you before slowly shaking his head. "Traitors, one and all!" He barks out, heading towards the door, clearly intent upon leaving the city.

Your rule of this city has been solidified. The nobles and the aristocrats that remain of the city stand before you, ready to, at least in the interim, obey your orders.

A city of fifteen thousand under your thumb. What shall you desire done now?

OP, you take so long with updates that i don't even remember what we were going to do.

Lets see, we must expand and upgrade our barracks back at the camp (hot showers and such)
We must set up garrison in the keep, upgrade it to modern standards.
Determine what assets we have, speak with each guild and faction leaders to see how best we can work together.
Set up administrative bureau, our officers will have a lot of work
Have Siegfried search for anything magic related in the city including the magicians. Have him purchase interesting stuff we might need, recruit the magicians, set up an order. Then he should study the magic contraption and find a way to re-purpose it to power the gate.
Send out our engineers and civil workers (with escort) around the town with translation rings to determine where we should start upgrading the town.

>>

Basically.

I will admit that I've been thinking more like a Roman Tribune than a Wermacht Officer: build infrastructure, civilize the locals that want to be civilized, annihilate the ones who don't.

This is a slightly adapted list of actions that should be done now.
1) Secure Redding (i.e. transform the Keep into a local garrison, co-op local nobles and guilds, and begin some minor hearts and minds improvements) And finish the survey of local materials and buildings.
2) Build a Fertilizer factory
3) Locate and expand mining operations with our technology. Dirt roads with outposts leading between the city, the gate base, and the mines (if they don't already exist)
4) Expand magical capacity. Investigate if magic works the same on our Earth. Research methods to keep the gate more stable and open for a longer time frame.

I'm not going into details but let me go OOC here for a moment:

I had two grandfathers on opposite sides of WW2. They got along much better with each other than they did with younger people who did not see the sheer scale of horror than they did. Was one side the bad guys? Yes. Was the other side forced to be almost as brutal to win? Yes. Were there good men on either side? Yes. Let's be happy that it's 70 years later and we are far removed from this stuff enough that we can write silly fiction about it.

We can't secure Swordhenge with even ALL our current forces, much less a detached group. We'll need at LEAST a month's supply if we're lucky, and if not 2, and we're also waiting on the Jager recon to get back.

As for the industry, good idea, but we'll also need to trickle in civilian managers and instructors for the factories over the next couple months.

We'll also want to see about getting a pioneer squadron through, with an attached geomatics troop for mapping.

That way we'll hopefully have 4 troops of engineers available, plus 1 mapping the area.

It does nothing tactically, but finding out whether magic items work on Earth is of paramount strategic importance.

Imagine an army whose medics can cast even Cure Light Wounds.

Even if it takes a portable generator to provide enough electricity for a wand of CLW to work...

More engineers certainly never hurt, but you already have farmers on-hand well familiar with the soil. By improving current production techniques, you could likely achieve the same effects without withdrawing expert hands from Earth.

A fertilizer factory is also doable. Depending on if you enlist local labor, it could even be done in a very rapid timeframe.

>>24000568
You currently have hot showers at your barracks back at camp, but you can improve capacity in it.

A garrison in the keep, up to modern standards, would work best with specifications. Are you looking for a full range of medical facilities, fortifications, an operating theater, internal electricity/plumbing, and housing?

Determining your assets will take some time, as various leaders and organizations collaborate to meet with you and your men. The arrival of the Gestapo, though not fluent in local tongue, should slowly speed things up a bit once translation is handled.

Where do you wish for this bureau to be established? In the city, in the keep? Back at your main outpost?

Siegfried will collect the local mages, as well as investigate all magical leads feasible. He'll also continue study on the contraption, though he has informed you it lacks a power source, and appears to be disassembled. It may be able to be completed and powered, if you wish to dedicate resources.

Your engineers can take one of the translation rings, but you currently only have three on-hand. Siegfried has one, you have one, and Gunther has one. How do you wish to redistribute them?

1) Secure Redding (i.e. transform the Keep into a local garrison, co-op local nobles and guilds, and begin some minor hearts and minds improvements) And finish the survey of local materials and buildings.
2) Build a Fertilizer factory
3) Locate and expand mining operations with our technology. Dirt roads with outposts leading between the city, the gate base, and the mines (if they don't already exist)
>can we make paved roads? we have concrete and tar and such
4) Expand magical capacity. Investigate if magic works the same on our Earth. Research methods to keep the gate more stable and open for a longer time frame.
>don't forget the lighting rod tests
5) Begin the indoctrination of local children by building a school to teach them German and the glory of National Socialism.
>we still need to decipher the language, and build schools, and make sure the kids aren't needed at home to work
Work with the local mages if possible, promising them positions of importance should they prove competent.
6) Potentially send a military force to Swordhenge to rescue Eric and secure the town.

While we wait for the reports on industry, food, and magic to collated by the watch commander and Siegfried, we should take a quick walk around of the castle to determine how long it would take to bring it up to modern standard (Running water, power, heating, sanitation, proper kitchen facilities, garage area, supply dumps, maintenance area, etc), and whether just building a new garrison elsewhere would be easier.

Train lines will require extensive resource investments, as well as manpower. Do you wish to draw from the city's reserves? Phone lines can be established in four days, however, if you dedicate your unoccupied men and a team of engineers (with equipment) to the task.

>>24000681
You can visit the mines in person if you desire: A quick inquiry has you notified that they're only a day's travel in the northern directions, near a particularly rich yet small range of mountains.

>>24000774
A number of these activities depend on whether or not you include the local populace into a conscripted or paid labor force for your projects, before appropriate estimates can be made. Materials are also required, which can be procured from local warehouses under similar methods.

>>24000841
Entirely doable, though it may prove tricky to build the necessary crane to get your flak weaponry atop the keep.

>>24000851
You may store your precious materials in the keep's vault if you desire, but some of your men are currently trying to figure out how to access it. The current thoughts seem split between blasting it open and rebuilding it, and attempting to have some mechanical engineers try to figure out the locking mechanism.
>>
>>24000853
>A garrison in the keep, up to modern standards, would work best with specifications. Are you looking for a full range of medical facilities, fortifications, an operating theater, internal electricity/plumbing, and housing?

Y-yes?

>Where do you wish for this bureau to be established? In the city, in the keep? Back at your main outpost?
Somewhere in the noble district.

>Your engineers can take one of the translation rings, but you currently only have three on-hand. Siegfried has one, you have one, and Gunther has one. How do you wish to redistribute them?
Take the one that Gunther has and give it to the engineers (with escort). Gunther is now on a break.

Also, we should talk to Siegfried about the weird twins we saw. Probably magicians.
>>
>>24000853

We are head engineer, so we should go with the engi team.

A fertilizer factory would be fantastic but it will not pay off for months if it's November. If we are to prove our peacetime superiority the mines come first as those operate year round.

Our original base is better defended; if we set up our bureau there, it has tactical advantages. But then there's an ant-line of people going back and forth... Best to set up "court" such as it is, in town, I think.

>>24000894

I'd like to vote against train lines for now. Maybe a line between mine and town; historically that was the first use of rails anyway.

>>24000851
We should have Siegfried go to the mages guild, and report back after looking around and asking some questions that don't expose our utter lack of knowledge. Stuff like "How is the supply with magic materials going?".

Yes. We will include local paid workforce. Hopefully we can teach them stuff on the work site though it will be hard due to the language barrier.

That's why I recommended the Windbuchse - it's basically a technological dead end. In addition, it needs either a long time to hand-pump or pneumatic recharging stations that we can keep control of. And its bullets are (1) completely different than firearm bullets (2) very easy to make as they're basically just lead pellets.
>>
>>24000894

We'll have to lay phone lines as we build the rail line. We can being a survey along the road when we leave, using one of the engineer sections.

For the locals, ask the watch commander how many are generally used as day labor and how they're paid, we'll likely need many men and possible even women to work building our transportation and manufacturing centers. They will, of course, be paid, but we do not know what currency the world uses and we doubt Reichmarks would work.

Fools we neither have the manpower nor the time and knowledge to start anything overtly hostile.

They need further convincing? Fine. Why don't we ask that little kid with his army what happens with people who opose us? Ask Gunther to bring that brat in. They are either afraid of Gunther or have to pick a little kid over a conqueror.

If they need further convincing fine. Everyone of them not with us will be imprisoned (house arrest). As soon as we take swordhenge they will get a frontseat to see our weapons in action. Then they will have to make a choice. Be allowed to go free or work with us.

Remind them that their estates and funds stay however. Yes even a noble is just a pompous guy without money. if they stay or ally with us they keep what they have. We are interested in manpower and resources not taxes at the moment. I'll guess the Baron can't beat that. Especially in wartime a Baron wants his nobles to deliver troops not to beg for food.

If they decide to leave, fine. Nothing better to spread terror into enemies then survivors.

Another Idea. That paladin tried to see if we where bluffing as we where first meeting him. Ask him if detects now any form of subterfuge/lie.

>>24000987

We're already at war, but we are understrength, we don't have the men to do anything now but fortify our positions, build infrastructure with local assistance, and wait for reinforcements. We should start subtly devaluing the meaning of hereditary nobilty -- those who do not sign up wholeheartedly get to keep their title and nothing else. We will be unfailingly polite with words, and ignore them in fact.

>>
>>24000963
Ahem for auxiliary troops, I believe we agreed on bringing as much information(books, designs) on medieval arms and armour+ if possible an expert. We still get an advantage for our supporters, while maintaining same technological gap.

Agreed, but at some point it will be expedient to have "trade guns" around. Tech will eventually leak out; we can choose which, so let's.

>>24001040

If anything, local auxiliaries would be trained as infanterie, assuming HQ approves it, since any territory we recruit from would be part of Germany. Why? Because it fosters the image that we're in this together, we're equals, and that they aren't beneath us.

(Although whether we could actually train these people into proper troopers is another question)
>>
>>24000987
We didn't manage to convince only one person..... which we let go with a horse, which was a bad idea, imo. We should have put him under house arrest and had our officers work through him for a month, letting him see our way.
As now it stands, he is going to inform the empire about us and we'll lose our great advantage.

.... Unless we intercept him and kill him on the road, making it look like bandits got him!

Yes! No one will know! I suggest we do this as soon as possible, we cannot let Empire retaliate yet!

>>24001051
Guns are worthless without ammo, and they will hardly find out how to reverse engineer it. The windbüchse can be manufactured by an able blacksmith.

We should send gunther to kill the aristocrat who left, once he leaves the city, and to bury his body. We should not let him alert the Empire to our presence so earlier.

Farnsworth?
Well, if you insist. When came to he was indeed quiet as other reports had said, something akin to shell shock or trauma, I'm not too familiar with that branch of medicine. He never said a word for weeks.

Anyway, out of some sense of fear or self preservation he did his duties quickly and quietly, whether it was cleaning latrines or sweeping the floors. He seems to be getting a basic grasps of German, or at least gruff commands, and almost likes being ordered around.

I suspect that a strong parental figures was something he lacked, and wanted.

He also takes a great liking to newsreels, especially of other hitler youth and the Fuhrer. I think that's the political officers intent.

I'll gladly continue to monitor his situation.
>>
>>24001051
So what if it does? Dude even if they capture a tank, no one can reverse engineer it. The gap is too big. There is no tech to leak out. They'll need years just to understand the principles, then even many more to advance the industrial base to the level where it can produce the tools needed to build the tools to actually make a crude copy.

Now making some techno-magical contraption? Yeah thats more like it - they can try to copy us this way even without looking at the internal workings, just the effect.
>>
>>24001089

That's a point - the Empire doubtlessly has agents keeping an eye on the local nobles and at least one ran off, we can't surround an entire city. But we don't have to.

>>
>>24001108

True, but "firearm" is a fairly simple concept. The windbuchse would be something effective for a rifle, nigh-useless for a field gun if it was scaled up, and a way to DELAY reverse engineering due to misdirection.

So, for the Swordhenge attack, I've highlighted the troops I believe we'll need, at minimum, to secure the city either via peaceful occupation or by storm, any thoughts? (It's 3 companies of infantry, 1 of mechanised infantry, 1 panzer platoon, and 1 artillery battery)

As for tasks to be done now, I suggest the following:

1) Finish a survey of Redding's industrial, food production, and magical capacities.
2) Survey the keep for a timeframe on a proper conversion
3) Hire the local mages to help charge the gate and make more translation rings (Pay with Quartz, probably by the ounce)
4) Bring in the engineer truppe to help build the new factories in the town, and survey the road for the future rail line
5) Get back to base with the troops and await the recce to report back
6) Begin building rail stock and other necessary parts using local industry

While language is a major barrier at this point, assessments can be given off of available information.

Securing Redding is a simple enough task, which your troops are currently rushing around to both secure, fortify, and asses the full assets of.

A fertilizer factory, with current manpower, would take approximately four days to build, and require access to some means of disposing waste, be it dumping downstream into the river or finding a suitable swamp to dump it into.

Expanding the mines should prove of little difficulty. You have some mining equipment amongst your construction gear, which you can dedicate towards the mines, though nothing particularly dedicated in that area.

Dirt roads are feasible, and interlinking all of those areas with dirt roads will take a week and a half. Three weeks for paved roads, as you need to extract the tar in question and incorporate it into the mixture utilized.

The lightning rod test and research should prove simple enough, especially with Magi Arthur's ritual having been captured for future research purposes. You will be unable to test until the Gate opens again, however.

5) Indoctrination will require language to be breached, but your Gestapo and other political officers can begin on the youngest children. Dedicated teaching staff may prove more efficient, however.

Working with the local mages may pan out, though motivating them may prove tricky, considering that you have need of them, but no apparent vice-versa.

The building itself can be brought up to running order with little difficulty: Perhaps a week, two weeks in order to establish running water, power, heating, and all the amenities of a full fortress. Having fuel on-hand for the power and heating and food preparation may prove a bit of a vulnerability, but you could amend that with either fuel storage on-site or a pipeline.

A garrison, under current manpower abilities, would require a week to two weeks for the full range of capabilities. Likely a week and a half to be safe.

Situating such a bureaucratic office, assuming it is built from scratch, will require four days and an existing structure to be removed. Renovating will require only two days to set up, but require your political officers to remain on-site.

Gunther, relieved of duty and his ring, elects to explore the keep on his lonesome at the moment.

As for the twins, what do you wish to discuss with Siegfried about them?

>>24000960
Local paid laborers will increase your active workforce to approximately three hundred city workers in addition to your soldiers. If you wish to force the vagrants and homeless to work, however, that number will skyrocket to 1,500 workers.

The dead and exiled nobles appear to have estates worth approximately five million "Gold coins". Silver appears to be the currency commonly used, with most day laborers earning two silver per day, at an exchange rate of one gold coin to one hundred silver coins, or ten mithril coins. >>24001250

Seize the dead and exiled noble's assets, we'll use them to pay the local workforce. While we can't force the homeless or vagrant to work, offer 4 silver per day for 8 hour shifts building. >>
>>24001376
We could have the loudspeakers announce that starting tomorrow at sunrise, the workers should assemble in front of the town to be told what they should do for the rest of the day. We should give the commander of the engineers a translator ring, so he can brief the skilled workers, which will command the homeless and vagrants.

"In the German Reich, everyone has a right to work so he can pay for his living costs, but also, every adult should work at his best capabilities. We offer 4 silver coins a day to the skilled craftsmen, and 2 coins and food to those who are not."

True, but that's a one-time windfall. I vote we leave it alone for now.

>>24001372
You could pay the vagrants if you so desire, though a good number of them already make a living as beggars. Not a glorious one, but a living all the same.

In terms of liquid assets, you have one million gold coins, ransacked from paintings, furniture, and other feasible items. At the expense of a million, you could convert one of the fantastic estates into a rather lavish administration bureau, requiring zero downtime to do so.

Unnecessary - if we need currency we can just order another truck of quartz.
Ahem now - the vagrants we can turn into a worker brigade - construction first, since everyone knows how to hold a damn shovel. Factory later, once we get some of those.

However, not all of the vagrants will be suitable laborers. I propose that we build an orphanage/home for street urchins, and turn it into combined home/school/propaganda house. Its a good investment - we will look good in the eyes of the locals, and in time, we will get Hitlerjugend v 2.0 ready for any duty that the Reich needs.

You elect to go with a policy of not forcing the vagrants and unemployed to engage in civil works projects, but also inducing criminal penalties where those who refuse to engage in some means of employment can and will be sentenced to forced labor without pay.

As such, though it may beleaguer your criminal justice system somewhat, you have gained a twelve hundred person strong workforce to employ at your beck and call. Untrained labor, but able to (roughly) follow directions, thanks to your engineers improvising a bit with signing and nonverbal language.

Just what will you put these workers towards, however?

>>24001646
The expense goes into repairs for the estate itself. It wouldn't require much time for laborers to repair, but the money lost is both money lost from the sale of the estate, as well as money lost in terms of repairs due to the fighting.

That's a good start for teaching German actually.

First instructions like "Dig!" and "Heave!" and so on.

Out of 1200 people, a few who are quick on the uptake will start learning German and find that they are put in charge of small work gangs and spend a bit of time translating and less time breaking their backs.

This generates an excellent incentive to learn the language better than the next guy!

(This has been done in the 70s and 80s in Kuwait with Pakistani workers and was explained to me by an engineer who worked there, in so many words. Except Arabic rather than German.)

We'll build the bureau into the Keep, and when we need to expand to a non-keep garrison the Keep can become our admin center for the town.

For now, put them to work building the factory, upgrading the keep, and laying the foundations of a steel mill, smeltery, and machine shop. Have a few groups start building dirt roads to the mines, and get base to send in some trucks to help supply them (Have the trucks bring spare ammo, fuel, some rations, and half-track and truck parts for the garrison)

My plan to deal with a major Imperial army has always been that, if we can't stop them using diplomacy, we crush it using all the heavy weapons in our arsenal. I mean bombers, artillery, tanks, mayber even chemical weapons. Thus, I don't actually fear them since we will destroy them with long-range weaponry before they pose a threat.
>>
>>24001800
I'd rather keep the Keep to military matters and simply bulldoze one of the noble houses to make room for our admin centre.

Then we can make it out of concrete with glorious pillars and inbuilt swastikas; something that'll impress the locals.
>>
>>24001965

You're missing the point that there's probably already locals on the way, and given the Baron's army I doubt the empire can spare that many.

Plus, we now have artillery. We can engage in a mobile defense using our panzer and half-tracks, with artillery bombarding for hours every day, whittling them down on the march to contact.

PLUS, by the time they get any army on the way, we'll have, hopefully, at least a battalion of infantry, at least a platoon of panzers, if not a company, and at least a company of mechanized infantry, in addition to our artillery, which is currently 1.5 batteries in strength.

With the current labor pool, the roading can take place in the span of four days.

>>24001875
Such can be arranged in the keep if you so desire, requiring less than a day's efforts, though one of your science teams will need to be present to monitor its growth and horticulture-related data.

Let's build the factory. Mithril is too valuable to ignore. How much is the current output?

Punishments for the most parts.
Vagrancy laws, job laws, merchant licensing and trade rules, how their court system works, generally improtant things that may or may not need to be touched.

IS there such a thing as magic oath bullshit? It behooves us to find out. Magic works in its own country.

Let's make the railroad bed first -- it'll be a better road than half of what these people have, I bet.

>>24002274

Improving the mine is good for production and also good for propaganda. Also, let's make some Davy lamps, firedamp isn't exclusive to coal mines.

I think that figuring out comparative crop yields is a tiny cost now with a potential huge payout later. If we have good horticulture data before planting season, the next harvest will be a greater weapon than an infantry division.

Damn it, I thought we only said that they could leave...
Oh well, I hope he won't come back with an army or some shit. He is definatly a man of conviction (Stands up against a foreing army that decimated the barons army and made knight commander yeld while all the other nobles bow down in submission.) so he is EXTREMELY dangerous foe later on.
>>
>>24002338

True. But that is the attitude we want to cultivate in our new fellow citizens, so we should respect it in an enemy.
>>
>>24002353
Let's just hope he ain't as charismatic as we are...
>>
>>24002268
>>24002274

Fertilizer factory first off. Get the roads to the mines up, have the engineers look to see if a rail route is useful too.

Convert the keep to have power, plumbing, heating, proper sanitation, hygienic dining and food prep facilities, a proper garage and maintenance area, secure storage for munitions, supply areas, proper living space, etc.

The Steel mill and smeltery need not be massive, only enough to work with the projected output of the mines we have after modernisation with a little extra, so they aren't working all-out all the time.

We'll use the keep as a bureau for now, once we have enough troops to warrant a separate garrison the keep can be given to full-time admin duty.
>>
>>24002268
First things first, let's upgrade the keep to military standards, build an underground pipeline here from our refinery and construct that admin office in the noble quarter after destroying an evicted house.
>>
>>24002377
You can't beat Nazi's for charisma
>>
>>24002385

Undeground pipeline would take too long, as would a fuel pipeline. We'll have to rely on weekly convoys for now, it won't be too much of an issue anyways, and eventually rail transport.
>>
>>24002392

Well, you couldn't at the time, anyway.

>>24002379

That stuff scales up well. Let's ask what the smiths can do now, and offer to triple it. For us that's probably not that hard.
>>
>>24002379
Fertilizer is unnecessary at the moment, it is November. I'd improve the mines first and build the road later, and the noble's house should be converted into an administrative building.
>>
>>24002414
Actually good point, a pipeline would be redundant when our railways are complete.

Focus on the other two + upgrading the mines I guess.
>>

Agreed. Fertilizer manufacturing will require letting SOME locals see some of our science: we should pick the elect carefully.

For the language barrier, would it be feasible to assign a ring to our linguist, hire a literate local, and tell them to write down specific words? That way you could create a sort of German-to-Whateverthelocallanguageis handbook. It wouldn't do much good with ordering illiterates, but it could be a base to learning to translate any books we capture. They could also tell the local we hire to read the word if we point at it with the ring off, and then write what they say as a pronunciation guide.

Most punishments are rather barbaric under the Empire, intended to set an example rather than correct a wrong. Thieves often find their hands chopped off, liars their tongues cut out, and hanging, the giblet, and other such punishments are quite popular. Traitors are usually drawn and quartered.

Courts seem to function on a European standard: Lawyers, a judge, but no presumption of innocence before guilt.

Siegfried looks clearly tempted to make some sort of joke when you call him down from whatever it is he's up to up there.

"... Well, sir," He begins, "I would imagine that such might exist." He remarks, "Binding oaths and all that business are quite popular in mythology. As it is? I would say there's nothing to worry about that unless you specifically agree to it."

>>24002379
The steel mill and smeltery will each require a week in that case, and each will require a workforce of one hundred persons to effectively operate it. Not necessarily educated persons, but persons that can do as instructed.

There are supposedly stocks of mithril in the city's warehouses, intended to be forwarded to Swordhenge. They will be inspected by your scientists when they arrive in the next day or two.

Alright, here's where we can make a big difference. First of all, thieves will now fined and need to pay in either forced labor or forced military service, not mutilation. Liars, and other nonviolent crimes will also be fined and treated such.

IF we absolutely must have flying things, let's use airships: they can do recon and light bombing. Once the Empire develops a countermeasure to them, THEN we introduce them to modern aviation, so that the time and effort they spent on their countermeasure is most likely wasted.

Current plan of action:
1) Secure Redding (i.e. transform the Keep into a local garrison, reward loyal followers, and begin some minor hearts and minds improvements)
2) Send a recon force to watch over Swordhenge
3) Expand mining operations with our technology. Dirt roads with outposts leading between the city, the gate base, and the mines (if they don't already exist)
4) Expand magical capacity. Investigate if magic works the same on our Earth. Research methods to keep the gate more stable and open for a longer time frame.
6) Next supply cycle
7) Find out what High Command actually wants from us.
8) Build railways from the Mines to Redding and then to our Gate Base to allow for a movement of labour and resources
9) Build up our local industrial capacity to make us slightly self-sufficient (Coal power plant, ore smelter, steel mill, chemical factory, munitions factory)
10) Begin the indoctrination of local children by building a school to teach them German and the glory of National Socialism. Work with the local mages if possible, promising them positions of importance should they prove competent.
11) Complete the star fort

Resupply list:
>6 Opel Blitz light trucks carrying food, ammunition, railways and medical supplies.
>Mechanized Company of Wehrmacht Soldiers riding in Sd.Kfz. 251s
>A company-sized detachment of SS political officers, linguists and German educators (including a history and medieval weapons/armour professor) + Left-over Nazi statues and flags.
>Several locomotives, flat-beds, armoured cars, cargo cars and various spare parts.

Portal Base Build Orders:
>Star Fort Foundations [20 days]
>Barracks upgrade

Redding Build Orders:
>Upgrade the Keep to German-military standards (hygiene, electricity, security, motor pool, etc)
>Demolish an evicted Noble house to make room for a political/administration office made out of concrete and prominently featuring Nazi architecture
>Upgrade the local mines

And we can probably get them earlier if we go "Hey HQ, we need our LeFHs to be more mobile. Think you could stick them on a tank or something?"
>>
>>24003365
Pumas, no.

But the current Sd.Kfz 221 and 222 models are excellent for our needs.
>>
>>24003371

As a reminder, a truck chassis CAN be used to pull mine carts if the track is reasonably flat. We can just take a truck and convert it to rail at some point, when it's expedient.
>>
>>24003387
As long as we modify the tops to be covered and protect from arrows as well.
>>
>>24003387

At this stage I'd be more interested in something like a Unimog truck that can be fitted with a modular cargo box for various duties. Riot-quelling steam sprayer, mobile pillbox, flak cannon, mortar platform, cargo. None of this stuff has to be built to WW2 standards either, civilian trucks would do.
>>
>>24003389
I guess most of our trucks are expedient. We should do it as soon as we finish the tracks.
>>
>>24003378
It is November 1939.

The Wespe did not happen until 1943.

And the idea of chopping up PzII chassis, in 1939 when they compose the majority of our nation's armoured forces would be ludicrous to HQ.

Towed guns are fine for our needs.
>>
>>24003389
We do have an abundance of trucks, 30 Opels and 10 Protze's.
>>
>>24003424
>Towed guns are fine for our needs.

Any obsolete equipment that is just sitting there in the Fatherland is worth gold to us. Even a WW1 style tank (with newer engines maybe) can make for a useful thing -- it can look conspicuous and distract from more lethal vehicles, be impressive as a command car when we drive it up to a city, be used as a tractor...
>>
>>24003450

I think making METAL BAWKSES for them that infantry can fire out of wouldn't be bad. Shit, against arrow they can just be thick wood.
>>
>>24003456
>Any obsolete equipment that is just sitting there in the Fatherland
Thing is, there *isn't*. All of Germany's kit got scrapped post-WW1 and we were forbidden from developing new shit until we threw that out with the treaty in '33.

Excluding a few old SCW-use aircraft, and Panzer I tanks, everything is brand new.
>>
>>24003465
As a short-term solution, this isn't too bad.

Moving on, how do we wish to reward the three brave factions of Redding who stood forward first to support the Reich, Herr Citizens?
>>
>>24003509

Brave or opportunistic?

Well, a few nobles just DID renounce their estates... we won't have time to do the day to day running of them.
>>
>>24003509
Find out what they do, what holdings they have, and if competent appoint them as capitalists-esque owner/managers in those fields?

I dunno. see what they've got first.
>>
>>24003424
It's January 1940 bro.
>>
>>24003509
I would think: High ranking administrative/status jobs for the Nobles. the Guild is likely outside of that system altogether.

Landed titles, a classic but it works.
Making up new fancy sounding honorifics, always a crowd pleaser.

But really, the easiest way is education.
Allow them the chance to become one of us, assimilate and absorb them. A great honour for them, a great oppertunity for us.
Teach them german, give them clothing akin to ours.
Allow them to leave behind what they were, and take up the mantle of men of the Reich.
>>
>>24003527
>>24003529
I like the sound of both of these; but we do need more information about what they have first.

I do like the idea of giving them preferential treatment, as its in line with what the Party did with big business conglomerates in Germany proper.
>>
>>24003539
Last thread it was Nov '39. It hasn't taken that long to give a speech.

Irrelevant either way, since the Wespe is still 3 years off.

>>24003527
Better to integrate agricultural or manufacturing holdings with the other crown lands we just seized.

Physical estates like houses, keep on hand to either liquidate for cash later or convert into admin or public facilities, like libraries, schools or hospitals.
>>
>>24003509
The Artificer guild can get some new tools. About the both houses, I dunno.
>>
>>24003484

Heh, point there. That said, even farm tractors would be very useful. Especially if they run on wood gas.
>>
>>24003574
>>24003539
Ther are two different dates mentioned this thread and last thread, we need OP to clarify.
>>
>>24003575

This is imperative.

1) Find out if they are still making screws by hand.
2) If they are, offer them all the screws they want.

Just this will be a mini-revolution of the same scope as fertilizer.
>>
>>24003574
>House stuff

This. Also keeping what are probably nice examples of local architecture and culture is probably going to be appreciated by posterity later, and anyone with taste now.
>>
>>24003604

Just simple wood screws. If they are being made by hand, machine-made screws would change EVERYTHING for most skilled trades.
>>
>>24003604
You are a damn genius.
>>
>>24003604
>revolution
>Screws

ISWYDT
>>
>>24003604
Depending on if they are using magic or not (likely).

Platinum, quartz, marble.
Promises of more platinum quartz and marble.
Looking like you are horrifyingly and incredibly rich is always a good thing in a feudal society.

Naturally, we offer the same to the magicians, but more as a business model then the reward the guild is given.
>>
>>24003604

Be casual about it: ask the metalworking guild master if we can see some fine work, and mention screws. If he sees them as something to that takes a long time to do, ideally, have a camera on hand when we tell him that we can make the things by the thousands.
>>
>>24003604
*clap* *clap* *clap'
Good idea. Very good.
>>
>>24003588
Last few threads mentioned Warsaw surrendered and Poland is ours along with the soviets.
I'd think it's 1940.
>>
>>24003654
...don't just tell the guy, though
>>
>>24003604
that's going to screw over some specialised artificiers, but is probably worth it.
>>
>>24003654
What if.... what if they don't use screws at all?
>>
>>24003672
Which is still '39. Poland fell by late September.
>>
>>24003677

Just get a box thereof out of a spare parts bin and let him examine them. Remind him that no magic was involved.

>>24003693

That's possible: in that case just call one of our workers over and have him demonstrate how much easier it is than doweling and how much stronger than nails.

Shit, just machine-made nails would do it I bet.
>>
>>24003693
Then they're screwed, mechanically speaking.
>>
>>24003672

pretty sure it's first or second week of november 1939
>>
>>24003702
>>24003672
Also the Admiral Graf Spee sinking the exeter. the ajax, and the achilles.

Really, I'm nuetrual to something as insignificant as a four month difference.
>>
>>24003733
Yeah, it's not that big a deal. late 1939/early 1940. If you want to be anal about it, ask OP when he gets back.
>>
>>24003733
4 months could make all the difference in the world.

Imagine the difference in the Battle of Britain if there's 4 extra months worth of mithril-armoured fighter/bomber production smashing up Pom airfields and planes?
>>
>>24003742

We should know about potatos and grains before planting season is in.

Once the next harvest is in, if we play our cards right we can go from having 80% of our population work the fields to, say, 30%. Everyone else can goosestep all over the known world.

>>24003753

Agreed. Or, mithril-hulled zeppelins. Of doom. With extra doom sprinkles.
>>
>>24003771
>zeppelins as a world war 2 weapon on earth
Space Core, please.
>>
>>24003808

How about the Saenger Antipodal Bomber then? Mithril hulls would make it a feasible design.
>>
>>24003771
>Agreed. Or, mithril-hulled zeppelins. Of doom. With extra doom sprinkles.
Um. I know that's intentionally a touch facetious, but Zeppelins don't work that way. Or have Hulls, as such.

Good humour is cool and all, but there are dickheads in these thread who'd take that as gospel.
>>
>>24003808
On earth yeah that's just silly.
Here, not so much. How flame/claw retardant is mithril against dragons?
>>
>>24003854
...Let's concentrate on actually winning the war, preferably in '41-'42 like we need to, first.
>>
>>24003854
We're still in the infancy of rocketeering and jets. V1's are a good four years away.
>>
>>24003866
It's metal.

The operative problem is that metal hulls on an airship's skin really don't work.
>>
>>24003899

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N38oSFwlYhE The design is from 1935.
>>
>>24003894
>.Let's concentrate on actually winning the war, preferably in '41-'42
In west europe and africa. Possibly then helping our Japanese allies in China, or seeing if their oriental fantasy gate is going well
>>
>>24003753
Mining mithril and sending the raw stuff back to Germany should be our number 1 priority right now!

>Assuming mithril works in our world like it does in fantasiland.
>>
>>24003935

Send a sample back ASAP. Also, weak magic items of various types.
>>
>>24003894
>>24003911
Let's hope it goes that way, we win England and Europe is in our grasp. Japan focuses on winning China and we help them. Then we can both target the true red menace together. and unite the eastern hemisphere (more or less).
>>
>>24003935
Supported.
>>

http://www.mayofamily.com/RLM/txt_Clarke_Superiority.html A quick reminder, to myself as well as to my fellow questers, to not go Wunderwaffen crazy.
>>
>>24003971
Agreed, once we know how valuable some fantasyland stuff is, we can go about exploiting the land for what we need.
>>
>>24003971
I support this plan of action, we need to know what works in our world before we drive towards it in fantasiland.

Also, this thread has been archived, vote it up Herr Reich Citizens!
>>
>>24003981
We've got a lot more to do if we want to win England and Afirca.
We'll need to carry out operation Felix and control Gibraltar, subsequently help the Italians take and hold the mediteranean.

Thankfully, the Italians are somewhat competent in this timeline.

>>24004067
>Thankfully, the Italians are somewhat competent in this timeline.
What have they done that we know about? I forget.

One thing is crucial: We do not have penicillin/antibiotics. IRL this was a big advantage the Allies had.

We must find Wands of Cure Wounds, and make them work on Earth, if it takes strapping a generator to them!

Our medics will be unstoppable!

>>24004080

I'm italian.
>>

>>
>>24004100

It's possible that for morale reasons we may not be told everything.
>>
>>24004121
Please, about the italians, it'd be a waste of potential morale for us not to laugh at their monumental failures.
>>
>>24004100

umm, IRL Italy remained a non-belligerent until June 1940
>>
>>24004205

True. The problem we (italians) had in WW2 is that we were horribly unDERPrepared and Mussolini was being told what people thought he wanted to hear, rather than what was there, so we did a lot of strategically idiotic things.
>>
>>24004080
>>24004205
I guess we'll have to wait and see then. Let's just hope Mithril or magic gives us the extra oomph in the war for now.
>>
>>24004224

If not, we still have a land to conquer -- it just means this new front will have to provide the Fatherland with oil and grain instead of shiny things.
>>
>>24004224
Who knows, we might be able to get Paris a few months before June of next year.
>>
>>24003753
>>24003742
>>24003702
>>24003672

The OP of the previous thread put the date at 1939. November 5th. 7 AM. So yeah.
>>
>>24004296

So for now what's the plan?

>>24004409

Excellent. We can get a lot of stuff done before planting season.
>>
>>24004432
Set up mining, organise the workforce, Find out if Mithril does what we want it to, begin EFFICIENT GERMAN ENGINEERING.
>>
>>24004432
>>24003100
This is the plan yes?

Along with
>getting Gabriel and Farnsworth to make that dictionary, and linguicists and teachers to perpare a school
>Figure out how to reward (or if) to reward the loyal nobles
>Send mithril back home to experiment
>Still need the lighting rod test
>Have a plan for aircraft

>generally help however we can the Fatherland's blitz to paris and dunkirk

I think that sums up everything in between then
>>
>>24004480

Sounds good to me.

The loyal nobles are rewarded with being allowed to keep their stuff and partake in the prosperity which we will bring.

Our strategy depends on mithril and magic items working on Earth a lot.

jokes aside, if magic items can be imported on earth and there's mithril to be dug here in decent quantities, we should fortify this area and become a trading power for a while. I suspect making this foothold into a city-state will be just as hard as BLITZKRIEG.

Of course, the Reich needs a seaport in these lands. Let's see where we can go get one.
>>
>>24004528

Aircraft can for now, we need more troops.
>>
>>24004480

you forgot flirting with Gabriel
>>
>>24004555
>you forgot flirting with Gabriella

yes this is an important part of learning the local languages, we must be able to flirt in their tongue
>>
>>24004555

>Gabriella
fix'd
>>
>>24004580
Wait, isn't Gabriella one of our scientists?
I forget.
>>
>>24004580

We must learn their language.

But all the new construction, development, technology, chemistry -- shall be in German.

In a generation even our enemies will have to speak our language if they are to compete economically.
>>
>>24004599

She is.

And I'd be more interested in playing the local field....

In seriousness, we must talk to the local madams/pimps.
>>
you know, having us(our little chunk of germany) has a lot of strategic implications. If the main army falters and the allys look to be winning the best and brightest of germanys might can retreat to the fantasy world and consolidate their strength. Then provided the ally's remain ignorant of the gate germany can prepare a devastating counter offensive at their whim provided the gate is properly powered.
>>
>>24004641
Gate doesn't have enough bandwidth for a realistic strategic retreat, unfortunately.
>>
>>24004641
Relax, the war against the allies goes well and I don't expect an easy defeat if at all.

We're winning the atlantic, which is a good sign. And we're going to conquer europe before fucking with Russia, just like the Japs are going to finish China first.
>>
>>24004641

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9znvFMfJBU

It has the bandwidth for a followup Nazis FROM fantasyland quest later though.
>>
>>24004675
Not to mention we're going to help them win China after europe and africa.

Maybe push into the middle east and meet them somewhere in the middle like anon said earlier. Or realistically just send them supplies.
>>
>>24004657
OP says provided enough power it can run indeffinately.

Killing a heap of people near by can power it. If say a death camp were relocated to sufficiently close to the gate then the slaughter could allow for mass transit.
>>
>>24004738
It wasn't really killing more than it was Siegfried absorbing the lighting attack of the two mages.
>>
>>24004738

Meep. This... worryingly... makes wholesale POW slaughter have a valid pragmatic reason.
>>
Remember how each OP post was a month and now a whole day took two threads?
>>
>>24004760
We won't have to slaughter POW's, they'll join the penal forces.

Untermensch on the otherhand are in endless supply, here and on earth.

But yeah that probably wasn't the reason, it was electricity >>24004753
>>
>>24004767
This was a VERY busy day.

Also, it took as awhile to agree that we hold of the eugenics program for now.
>>
>>24004721

Germany in China is going to be weird as fuck.

We're going to need a bigger gebirgsjager corps.

Or tell Hitler to stop being a cocknob and allow large-scale Fallschirmjager drops again.

And make the HG Fallschirmpanzerdivision an actual Airdroppable panzer division. Glider-deployed PzIIIs anyone?

>>
>>24004806
For now...

On the matter if death camps though, when the Holocaust gets underway in Germany proper, we should tell them to locate the camps near the portal. We never did work out if it was mass killing or the electrify trick that worked wonders on the portal.
>>
>>24004883
Agreed.

Like others have said now is not the time, but we will need to cleanse this land of life unworthy of life eventually.
>>
>>24004883
It was the death, not the electricity. the juice was adsorbed via platinum.
>>
>>24004883

We should experiment with that. And by experiment I mean that the next asshole who gets a deserved death sentence will get it near the portal, not that we're killing some random person.
>>
>>24004837
I meant more like the Tetrarch Light tanks the British deployed via Hamilcar Glider.

But instead of a questionably-useful 7t tank, we deploy very useful PzIII Ns via Me321 Gigant gliders.
