So Pacific Rim has me hyped as shit. Monsters, giant robots, international figting team, and a big dose of humanity, FUCK YEAH. Are there any games or systems that would let me pull off some kind of cross of XCOM and Pacific Rim? A team of soldiers and/or mecha pilots must fight the giant monsters and their alien overlords?

Also, just check out the kill count for the Australian mech, holy fuck. The Japanese one has 2. How do you out-mecha Japan?

Japan built the first jaeger. Australia's is the newest. Also, Australians have always been fighting monsters so it's understandable.

I really like Japan's Guncannon though.

If the question is Giant Robots, the answer is BattleTech.
Always.
>>
>>23990688
from my understanding, Battletech is pretty lore intensive, right? I tried getting into it once and the feel of it was rather dour, like a 40K mecha game. Nothing wrong with that, but not exactly what I'm looking for.

Or I could be entirely wrong and a faggot

so wait wait wait.

are you really going to sit there and tell me that a giant robot prototype ISN'T better than the ones that come after it?
>>
>>23990728
Battletech lore is kinda all over the place.
>>
>>23990800
Nah, don't worry man. The whole premise of the movie is that a grizzled veteran about to retire, and the brand new guy have to pilot the legendary but outdated mecha to victory.
>>
>>23990728
You don't really need to know the lore to have giant robot battles. The rules are also pretty great in that while you can do fucking anything you want with them, you can still have a very entertaining and fulfilling game at even the most basic level.
I also wouldn't describe BT as very "dour", or at least not in the same way as 40k. It's mostly just... fucking huge, and there's always a war (or 20) going on.
>>
Jesus Christ 11 fucking kaiju when Japan has 2?

how the hell do they get there so fast? or are kaiju just inclined to go to Australia or something?
>>
>>23990849

The Australians had to use the robot on some of the native wildlife. They then proceeded to count this as legit kills.
>>
>>23990800
That's a fair point. Prototypes are ALWAYS better. so even though>>23990823 is correct it doesn't explain why Japan is doing so bad.

I am now of the belief that Japan has been beating the shit out of the kaiju and Australia, purely on virtue of their speed, has been stealing their kills. It seems like something Australia would do towards Japan.
>>
>>23990844
I'm probably just remembering wrong because its late and it was years ago when I looked into it. Battletech is the wargame version and MechWarrior is the RPG, right?
>>
>>23990849

>>
>>23990849
these are not all the jaeger, giant mech, that have existed, the few images that have been leaked about the pacific prequel graphic novel show jaeger that are neither Coyote Tango nor Gipsy Danger (or any of the newer ones)
probably both CT and GD came late to the party before the next gen was launched (Cherno Alpha, Crimson Typhoon)
then the world decided Russel Crowe cannot hold the tide of kaiju alone with just tugga by his side, and build Striker Eureka as his new partner
>>
>>23990800
Your picture is kind of a special example, the guys that made the Tallgeese were told make the best fucking thing you can, here's all the money, get to work. They came back with something so overpowered that no ordinary person could pilot the damn thing without killing themselves. So OZ took the design, revised it, and made the much less powerful as well as far easier to mass produce Leo. Most Gundam series have valid excuses for why they follow the super prototype trope, that being that most of the said super prototypes are crash programs utilizing experimental technology that is not duplicated in the mass produced models because it would too expensive to do so.

Yep. MechWarrior is also the computer games, and the newest iteration of BT RPG is actually known as A Time of War.
Actually, you know what? If you are just in this for monster-fitan in a giant mech, maybe something else would be better. I remember how overwhelming BT was at first, and it was basically just my love of the fluff (and the concept of giant robots shooting and beating the shit out of each other) that made me power through it all. I mean, it's still an option, it's just I don't want you to think it's the only one.

Hrm, some of these Jaegers are equipped with missiles and cannons. Britain is not a country situated on the Pacific. Nothing else is relevant. And this is coming from a Brit. In a movie called 'Pacific Rim', I'd raise an eyebrow at a britbot being shoehorned in for no reason. As the fellow Anon said, let the Aussies carry the flag, at one remove.

The rest of the world, most likely, is providing logistical support for the pacific nations anyway. After all, if they fall, the Kaiju attacks could spread further putting everyone else in danger.

Battletech, dour? What on earth?

Do you remember the BattleTech saturday morning cartoon? That's in-universe canon. It gets treated as anti-Clan propaganda, and even Clanners watch it and get their roffles from classic moments such as "CURSE YOU ADAM STEINER".

There's a canonical mech unit called Ace Darwin's WhipIts, it's led by a guy named Ace, he pilots a Panther which is a generally crumpy old light mech, and wears a completely pink paintjob on it. The whole unit gets promptly Darwinized when ambushed by a whacked-out rage frothing Jesushead mercenary unit called the Waco Rangers.

There's a mercenary unit named Reed's Brew, whose mainstay is brewing beer, and derping around combat areas in APC's converted into "party boxes", consisting of a heavy beer payload, an expandable dancefloor with loudspeakers and discoballs, a pizza oven, and other stuff.

Cameo personages in the lore of BattleTech include Seymour Skinner, Char Aznable (reportedly killed in action, but suspiciously served in the Zeta battallion), Madoka Kasuga, Benton Frasier, a planet named after Captain Harloc, the entirety of the cast from Buckaroo Banzai, Hardy HarHar, and an entire mercenary unit named Canned Heat.

Also, kaiju. There's a mercenary unit that specializes in making a side job of propping their mechs up as giant monsters and then rampaging in life-sized props for kaiju movies.

>Also, just check out the kill count for the Australian mech, holy fuck. The Japanese one has 2. How do you out-mecha Japan?

Because Australia. Their normal buigs and beasts already terrorize humans, imagine what their kaiju are like.

Japan having a low kill count is just because Godzilla's a fucking killstealer.

Yeah, I suppose kaiju-on-kaiju violence around Japan really crimps the JDF's style.

>fucking Mothra, flying in and ganking my ace kill for the fifth time in a row

On the other hand, it probably has an assist line longer than can fit on the mecha.

I actually bumped into her last week when i was training at a nearby mountain.

She seemed cool, but her mum still comes across as a bit of a bitch.

If you had as many fanboys sniffing around and making bad ray-slaying jokes, you'd get crotchety about strangers too.
