You are a Magical Girl, and after spending two very eventful weeks in Siberia, you've finally returned to Mitakihara, Japan. Midori, the girl who saved your life by jumping into two overlapping Witch Barriers, woke up just as the plane touched down, and had immediately grabbed on to you, a panic-stricken look on her face as frantically asked if the both of you were out of the barrier already.

You reassured her that you are, and to prove it, you waved your copy of Miracle Midori x Murder Mayumi in her face, allowing yourself a small smile when she immediately got flustered and told you to put it away.

She also went off to gently wake Misaka up for your disembarkation, as well as to help her put back the tools she used in tinkering with Tiny Pete's AI.

...You'd find this situation amusing - the way Midori chided and fussed carefully over Misaka reminded you of a mother with her child - if it weren't for the fact that you just had a nightmare where you got your throat cut open by a girl who called herself Wendy. A split second before you shot her in the face with the Golden Desert Eagle.

Not to mention Pinky's cryptic warning, delivered after one of her trademark tantrums. Something about Tomoe Mami dying, unless you killed someone called 'The Prophet'.

...You can't take it easy like this.

You can't take it easy like this at all.

You disembark a few minutes later, with a loading truck and a company limousine parked just beside the plane's staircase itself. As you descend, you notice a familiar figure waiting for you, in her dark red Magical Girl costume - Kyoko, with her sword guard eyepatch and everything. She's wearing a rather fluffy-looking woolen blue scarf, and what could be an expression similar to a kid just raring to get at her wrapped Christmas presents.

. . .Kyoko can really be transparent, can't she?

Behind you, Midori is carrying the over-large piece of luggage that bore the golden weapons. She's having a hard time with it, but even when you volunteered to carry it yourself, she shook her head and valiantly pushed on. You've stashed Malal's package in your inventory, just to make sure it's in a safe place.

"O-oi, Murderface! Welcome back!" The red-haired Eversor greets you loudly and energetically as your heeled feet finally hit the tarmac. She holds out her hand to you, grinning all the while.

You look down at the hand, before reaching out and clasping her wrist, as she does yours. Typical salute between Eversors, but something that Kyoko always made whenever she met you. ...You remember Sayaka doing this, too, way back then.

"I'm the one driving you back to Headquarters -- whoa, what's with the new hair?! How'd it get so long so quickly?!" Her one eye nearly boggles at this. "Is this an image change? Did you break up with someone or what...?"

How do you respond?

1) run a database check on any megucas with prophetic powers and ask QB about this;

Anything else?

"Oh, classified information, huh? Well, fair's fair. I won't ask anymore, unless you really feel like talking." Kyoko nods in understanding. It's then that she looks over at your two companions.

"Ahaha, welcome back too, Misaka-chan, Midori-chan! Hopefully Murderface didn't give you too much trouble!...Wait, why do you have bandages...?"

"Big Sister Murderface didn't make trouble...!" Misaka lies in the sleepy yet cheerful way that kids always do when they're tired. "A-and, um, Misaka fell down some stairs! Was accident!"

"...Yeah, okay. Sure!" Kyoko seems to buy it, although her one eye focuses on you for a split second, before it gets closed again in her cheerful grin. Midori, on her part, is being wisely quiet about this - although you figure it's her straining with the luggage that's got her occupied.

"A-ah, let me get that for you," Kyoko hurries forward, taking the luggage from Midori. The Callidus looks over at you for a moment, as if to ask permission, and you nod. Kyoko would be fine just carrying it - Kharn did verify that it was safe to carry something that contained the golden weapons, so long as there was no direct contact with them in the first place.

"You'd better get in, then," The Eversor says as she places the luggage in the trunk, soundly locking it after shoving it shut. "Kyuubey wants to get your full report on what's happened back there. Mami-san's waiting for you, too, along with a few VIPs." You could almost hear the smirk in her voice. "Oh, and...blue roses? Well, er, there's a flower shop on the way, I guess we can get some there." She blinks at you once more. "Didn't peg you for a flower person, much, Murderface, but I guess people change."

...Yeah. They do.

But isn't a surprise more fun than always knowing?
>>
>>23975509

With the rest of Tiny Pete offloaded into the truck and Misaka parting ways with you here - giving you and Midori one last hug goodbye - it's rather wearily that you and Midori pile into the back seat of the limo, while Kyoko herself gets in behind the wheel. Midori immediately falls asleep, clearly still exhausted, leaning her head on your shoulder.

It's...a bit strange, being physically close to someone like this all the time, but...it's not too bad, you gather.

The car rumbles smoothly into life, and you watch as familiar civilization whips past you. Cars. Buildings. Mitakihara's nightlights, lighting up the dark.

It's good to be back. Relatively speaking.

...You could really use a cigarette.

"So, how was Siberia, Murderface?" Kyoko says after a moment, seemingly intent on small talk. You catch her questing gaze in the rear view mirror, her one crimson eye twinkling. "You don't hafta talk about anythin' classified if you don't want to. Just give me some bits you could let go! Like, how was it trainin' with the Betrayer an' such?" The Eversor grins at this. "Ah, what I would've given if I got the chance to do something like that!"

How do you respond?

Clearing your throat a couple of times, you give Kyoko the summarized version of events that happened in Siberia, redacting the details you're not quite sure you should be spreading around just yet (at least, not without Kyuubey being told first, as much as you dislike the furry little bastard). You do this in an uninterrupted stream of words muttered deadpan, and to her credit, the red-haired Eversor keeps quiet throughout the entire thing, her one eye focused on the road yet wide in wonder. It's at the last bit - where you tell her about getting her a furry hat - that you reach into your inventory, grab it from the box it was stored in, and toss it onto her lap. The black bear-fur ushanka making a rather heavy noise as it drops.

"A furry hat? O-oh, wow, I...I've always wanted this, I really wasn't expecting you to get one and WHAT THE HELL KHARN'S PREGNANT?!"

You wince at the shout, and nudge at the back of the driver's seat with the toe of your shoe. You grumble at her to keep it down, Midori's sleeping.

"S-sorry. I...really, thank you for this thing, it...it still smells like bears, hahaha! Oh, man, everyone's gonna be so jealous back at the Officio!" Kyoko guffaws, taking one hand off the wheel to hug the strange headgear to her, much like a child cherishing a stuffed animal. "Hehe, wait'll Sayaka-chan sees this!" There's a moment, before she narrows her one eye at you. "B-but, about Kharn, you're shitting me, right? About her being pregnant?"

...No. Maybe. Well, you're not too sure, but you have your suspicions.

"...Man. Who'd have thunk it. I mean, I'd have put my money on Mami-chan first, but Kharn..." Kyoko shakes her head slowly. "Whoever got her knocked up must've been SUPER hardcore."

An image of the reedy, white-haired young man scowling at you in a wrinkled lab coat comes up in your mind, and you smile slightly at this.

Heh. Super hardcore. Right.

Kyoko is being a huge gossip at the moment, but you find yourself not minding too much. It's...Kyoko, after all, one of the few friendly faces you've grown accustomed to having around. You can indulge her curiosity for now, at least.

You look out the car window as you try to describe Souji as charitably as you can without lying your ass off. You end up telling the red-haired Eversor the bare specifics about him - his white hair, how he wore a coat most of the time, and how good he was with his hands. Oh, and how he's on Kyuubey's payroll strictly because of how smart he supposedly is. In any case, you didn't spend a lot of time with him, so you can't really form a complete opinion about him just yet, nor explain the attraction between him and Kharn. But you trust the former Warmaster to be enough of a big girl to make her own decisions based on her tastes, despite her rather disappointing track record about making choices.

"Hah! Yeah. I don't know if you remember, but Kharn made some really bad choices, back when she was still new at this. Malal, that aide of hers, took care of everything after that, and things went over a lot more smoothly since then." Kyoko shrugs at this. "Not her fault, really, since Warmasterin's got two sides of the job - the side where you kill lots of important people, and the side where you talk and deal with important people without killin' em. Load of bull if you ask me."

Yeah. You're not exactly looking forward to that bit.

"Oh, hey, speakin' of which! Is that offer still on the table, and stuff? Like, you want me to be your aide and such?" Kyoko turns to look at you while the car's stationary at a stoplight. "Me an' Sayaka's talked it over. I want to, anyway, but she wants to talk to you personally first before I make a decision." A moment. "I-it's not that I don't want, ya know? But she wants to hash some things out with you personal-like, before anything." Another moment, this time much more awkward than the first. "Just...don't kill each other when you do meet up, alright?"

You'll...try your best not to. You only hope Sayaka would do the same.

[1/2]
>>
>>23976276

"Ah, you know how she can get. I'll try to be there in case it gets too hairy, but I don't think she'll actually do it."

...As much as you like her, sometimes, Kyoko can be stupid too.

Well, anyway. What's this about Mami being pregnant?

"Ohh, nah, that's just a pool that's gettin' tossed around the water cooler. Some girls gettin' boyfriends, doin' stupid stuff without protection, that kinda thing. Kyuubey had Mami talk to the entire Officio about that during the last all-hands meeting. Completely red in the face throughout the entire thing." Kyoko laughs at this. "But, uh, yeah, rumor has it she's got a boyfriend, some dude in college. But that ain't the only rumor, of course. Some are sayin' they spotted Mami hanging out with a really stylish-looking girl, gothic lolita as all get out. Had an American accent too, at that."

How do you respond?
>>
>>23976289

As for aides? I say we skip Kyoko and Sayaka. Kyoko is okay, Sayaka is just begging for trouble. When we need them, we give them a call and conscript into our entourage. The rest of the time they can be the top Eversors of our Officio.

An American girl? Anyone catch her name?
>>
>>23976331

>>23976289

I think, I *think* we shoudl wait until we've talked to Kuubey forst on what is and isn't kosher to say.

*then* we get the posse together - Midori, Mami, Sayaka, Kyoko, whoever else is useful - and tell them whatever we know anyway.

Over drinks or something. And after we've gotten ourselves that new outfit.

We're srs bzns Chiaki now, and we should look the part.
>>
>>23976289
"I'll have a chat to her, no problem. I need practice at being civil anyway."

Wasn't the plan to make Kyouko the social/PR aide, Midori the administrative and 'personal' aide, and bump Sayaka up to head Eversor? 'cause that works for me.
>>
>>23976289
"College guy and a gothloli, huh. I'll add them to the list."

Maybe we've gotten enough of our personality back to make a joke like that.

(May not be a joke.)
>>
>>23976289

"...Looks like I will have a talk to Mami too"

Then change the subject

"What sort of VIP's are we going to meet?"
>>
>>23976364

I believe its a together or nothing thing.

Sayaka as full bodyguard/devil's advocate detail. She'll be the first to voice out if chiaki is doing something stupid.
>>
>>23976338
We already have Midorin to keep us on a leash. We don't need blueberry going batshit on us the moment a witch chomps off Kyoko's arm or something. She's too involved and too unstable to be of any use whatsoever.
>>
>>23976331

I'm sure we told them of the 'witch' already.

Kyoko is trustworthy. Chiaki should be able to tell her about the warning. Another person keeping a lookout would be good too.

>>
>>23976289

"Anyone heard a name of this girl Mami is hanging out with....Never mind, let me know after I've spoken with the cat. By the way: who are the VIPs?"
>>
>>23976442

Quite sure kyuubey said he was fine with it when we phoned him in Siberia.

Also Kyoko specifically asked that Sayaka come along since she doesn't want them to be seperated.
>>
>>23976461
Well, then why not make them all a Special Operations task force, to deal with this Golden Weapon problem? Warmaster, Aide, two top Eversors, and a top Vindicare seems like an appropriate force to handle a problem of that magnitude.

Wonder if we can get Yuma on the team too.
>>
>>23976485
This is a great idea, actually.

Also, we should pry about Mami. Given we're concerned she might, like, die. What if this gothic lolita is the Prophet or something? Maybe she's the reason Mami'll get killed.
>>
>>23976485

So, on the table, but pending modification and approval by the cat?

Works for me.
>>
>>23976485

We'll be lucky if we only have to deal with that.

A storms brewing. One that smells of the 9th Officio vs the 10th.
>>
Well, Sayaka's in line for Eversor Rank Leader, probably the best choice for the job now that Kirika is dead. If she has a problem with her girlfriend working directly with us, we should listen to her seriously. We're going to be running the whole Officio so we should at least keep a cordial, working relation with the girl in charge of our shock troops.

If that means telling Kyouko that we'll have to rethink our offer, then I think we should. Kyouko is mature enough to deal with it.
>>
>>23976485
>Warmaster, Aide, two top Eversors, and a top Vindicare

Chiaki, Midori, SauKyouko, Mami, and maybe a Yuma?

Pity whatever's on the recieveing end of *that*.

The warmaster's entourage does whatever it wants.

As long as they're assigned to Chiaki's staff, its a go.
>>
>>23976538
"Special Operations Task Force" sounds a lot more professional and OPERATOR than "Entourage", though. That just sounds like they're groupies.

Plus, Kyuubey's more likely to OK us monopolising than many resources if we dress it up all businesslike.
>>
>>23976560

Point.

We should tell kyouko to detour and find a place that sells business girlsuits before coming to see QB.

>>
>>23976560

>>
>>23976560

Retinue, then.

>>
>>23976572

>>
>>23976519
It was also mentioned that it might be worth creating a position of responsibility for Sayaka that allows her to be close to Kyouko. Something like a vice-war master who would carry out important duties and work closely with the Warmaster's aide.

This is assuming that we appoint Kyouko, though.
>>
>>23976592
It won't be too bad if we have a nice military greatcoat over the shoulders over the suit.

We need to do the ponytail, though.
>>
>>23976289
"Huh.

>>
More to the point, did we miss an all hands meeting while we were in Siberia?

I wonder what was brought up.
>>
>>23976596

Eversor Rank Leader is already a position of authority that allows her to be close to Kyouko.

I'm just saying we should listen to what Sayaka has to say before making a decision on Kyouko.
>>
>>23976314 >>23976364 >>23976496

You tell Kyoko that the offer's still on the table, pending some modifications and approval by the mutant cat. And since she brought Sayaka up, yes, you'll be consulting her chromatic opposite about the matter - so long as Kyoko doesn't get angry at you just in case you need to shoot off Sayaka's legs just to make her listen.

Kyoko makes a face at this. "What, like you did to Midori? Aw, come on, Murderface. You know I hate seein' the both of you at each other's throats like that. Just...I don't know, shoot her on the shoulder or judo chop her into unconsciousness or somethin'." The stoplight turns green, and the limousine moves on again. "Not like you can't do those things, you've done them before. Didn't like it one bit when you did, I gotta tell ya, and I came close to guttin' you for it, but she was kinda baitin' you. So I couldn't exactly blame you. But still..." Her voice gets that pleading note that only Kyoko could pull off without sounding like a total git. "Just try to be civil for me, okay, Murderface? I'll count it as a personal favor if ya do."

You did say you'll try, didn't you? She should stop worrying too much, it doesn't suit her.

"Hah! Well, I made you promise, at least. That makes me breath easier." Kyoko beams.

...Anyway, does Kyoko have any details about the people Mami is supposedly seeing? The college dude and the gothic lolita with the American accent?

"Eh?" The Eversor blinks at you from the rear view mirror. "Oh, er. Not...not particularly? I can hunt around for you, though. Send it to your cellphone when I get 'em. Or you can ask Mami-san yourself if ya want, she's waiting for you back at the Officio anyway." She grins, again. "Hah, I shoulda taken a picture earlier. She spent her lunch hour grocery shopping for pancake supplies. In her OL outfit, at that. Never looked so much like a housewife." Kyoko cackles at this.

"Why? Oh, because the pancake maniac's comin' home, that's why! She wanted to make 'em fresh for you the moment you got home!"

That's...that's great. Yes. Best news you've gotten for a while.

Mami's pancakes. After for so long...

She couldn't drive any faster, could she?

"Hell no I can't! I already got enough demerits on my license!"

Useless.

"Hey!"

Is there anything else you'd like to ask Kyoko? It seems that you can ask her something else - that, or just sleep on the way back to the Officio.

At this point in the conversation, you'd normally have shut up, unable to talk about anything else. It's not that you've ever been socially awkward - it's just that you've never really considered social stuff as...well, important. It wasn't a priority. And you avoided it whenever possible. Only Mami, and to a certain extent, Kyoko, could force it upon you and not expect more than a grumbled expletive and the cold shoulder as a rebuke. Anyone else, well, you glared into silence or simply did away with force.

But you find yourself...well, wanting to keep the conversation going. Making this probably the longest conversation you've ever shared with the red-haired Eversor. At least, without the influence of alcohol.

You ask her about...well, anything else she can tell you. How did Kyoko fare in the two weeks that you were gone? Any other gossip she could share with you?

"...Well, aren't you chatty," Kyoko notes, displaying her tendency to be unexpectedly sharp every now and then. "Don't know what happened back there in siberia, but whatever it was, it kinda loosened your tongue a bit." She turns towards you momentarily, grinning. "Kinda like it, to be honest. Didn't really like talkin' to a wall and such."

She shrugs as she watches the road. "Eh, nothing much, to be honest. There was that one time when Sayaka was on recon and she disappeared for a couple of days. Said something about a library, or what. I was worried sick about her, but she came back okay, so...all's good there." Despite her conversational tone of voice, you couldn't help but see the usually-cheerful Eversor's expression darken for just a moment. "I didn't see any one of them Pleiades Saints that you warned me about. Made sure the other Eversors looked out, too, but not a hair of them popped up after you called."

[1/2]
>>
>>23977435

Well, that's something. You make a mental note of this, before asking Kyoko about Yuma, the last Culexus. Does she know how to get in contact with her? It seems that Malal left Kharn a package for the succeeding Warmaster, and it needs to be put back together by a Culexus. That's according to her own instructions.

This gets you a rather uncomfortable period of silence from Kyoko.

"Huh, well. That's weird. But I guess if it's from Malal..." The red-haired Eversor says, slowly, giving you the impression that she's picking her words with care. "I just...well, I don't know if she'll be up to talk to you, you know. It's not a personal thing, but...the kid never really got back the same way after..." Kyoko's voice trails off into silence as she frowns. "...Well. After her entire unit died."

...You don't blame her. No one really comes out intact after something like that.

"Anyway, sure, I'll try my best. She should be okay with you, at least, moreso if it's Malal who did the askin'. That kid really liked Malal." A moment. "And boy, did she ever hate Kharn's guts."

Not much of a surprise there. Kharn's an easy soul to like, but at the same time, very easy to hate, too.

"I could get that, yeah. But we Eversors? We adored Kharn. She still got her share of fangirls even after she got sent to Siberia." Kyoko grins, before suddenly easing the car into park, right beside what appears to be a flower shop. You glance out the window, and...see a familiar face. One in a maid costume.

Fabiola...? What's she doing out at this time of night?

"Right, here we are. Flower shop." Kyoko undoes her seat belt. "You want me to get your blue roses or you wanna do it yourself?"

It's possible that the gothic lolita that Mami is hanging out with is Oriko, girlfriend of Kirika who we killed early in the quest. In the manga, Oriko has the power to see the future which would make her the prime candidate for being "the Prophet" that's supposed to kill Mami. And given that she's likely seeking revenge for Kirika, she has the motive for trying to kill someone close to Chiaki.
But then again, I don't recall Oriko having an American accent. Regardless, I imagine Oriko will show up to cause problems sooner or later.

You glance at the still-sleeping Midori by your side. You know she'd been sleeping the entire way from Siberia, not to mention a full night's sleep before that - but she seems to still be sleep-starved even then, enough that she's even snoring lightly here. Running around in overlapping barriers must have worn her out more than you thought.

Another look at the flower shop just outside, and it's then that you make your decision. You'll get the roses on your own. Not much sense of sending Kyoko over to get it, and you could use the opportunity to stretch your legs after the flight. Besides, there's something you need to ask Fabiola.

"Fabiola...? Oh, you mean that maid back from that gala thing?" Kyoko blinks, before following your gaze. "Huh. Didn't even recognize her." The Eversor shrugs. "Alright, go ahead. I'll wait here, keep the engine running." She presses a button on the dashboard, and the door on your side unlocks. "Don't take too long, alright? We got a schedule. Mami-san's going to scold me if we get there with your pancakes already cold."

Yes, yes. She doesn't have to remind you.

You carefully extract yourself from Midori's grasp before getting out of the car, reaching up with a hand to irritably flick some of your long hair that's fallen over your shoulders.

...This'll take some getting used to, to be sure. You idly wonder when you'll be able to get it cut short again.

Pushing the car door closed, you make your way inside the flower shop. It's an old-fashioned one, but with some modern improvements here and there - some of the more expensive flowers being stocked in sliding-door refrigerators, to keep them fresh longer. A bell hanging over the door rings as you push your way through, alerting the senior shopkeeper there and netting you a greeting. You return it as well as you could - and your voice, despite you keeping it low, makes the only other customer in the shop turn at your arrival.

"...Pretend Magical Girl," Fabiola blinks in surprise. "Ah, I do apologize. I forget myself. Pretend no longer. But...hmm, you're different from the last time we met."

Yes, yes, it's the hair. You get it.

"...Well, I was going to mention your eyes. They're a slightly darker purple, with keen crimson pupils." She smiles.

Huh. Well. That's...a thing. Not even Kyoko noticed. But anyway--

"They're beautiful. Much more beautiful than I remember." Fabiola smiles just a bit wider, a pink tinge blossoming on her cheeks.

...

I agree it'd be a bad idea on several levels to encourage any sort of shipping with Iori, but on the other hand it wouldn't be right to give her the cold shoulder entirely. We are trying to become a somewhat less dysfunctional human being (or pseudo-lich or whatever you want to call what we are -- person, anyway), and we were making some decent progress toward that end with Iori. We don't want to drag her into the mess that is our life, and she's pretty well out of the question for shipping stuff aside from that, but that doesn't mean we can't still maintain a friendly and professional relationship.

You try your best to ignore your own cheeks heating up as you tell Fabiola, in the same deadpan tone of voice that you've always spoken to everybody - that the line, as it was, forms to the right, and it's quite a long one. You also ignore the smile that the maid makes as this, quickly following up the retort with a query about what's been happening in the Garcia Household.

"Hoh~ You don't need to be so nervous, Magical Girl. I have no interest in...falling in line, at the moment. I am content to simply admire from afar. Although, I do remember that you still have to collect the payment I owe you." The smile turns into a rather rosy one, and she bows. "You are free to ask me of anything you wish, whenever you wish. For that, at least, I am at your service."

...Are all maids like her? Seriously?

"No, I do not believe so. We of the Garcia Household are one of a kind, trained by the Head Maid to be the most efficient and capable maids there are." Fabiola smiles the kind of smile that makes you wonder if she's being truthful at all, or simply jerking you around. "As for your question, well...everything is as it should be, at the household. There has been little excitement as of late. Minase-sama has been safe behind our doors ever since you left her in our care, and remains safe up to this day." A moment's pause, here. "She and the young master has been getting along quite well. She rarely cries about you anymore."

That's...well. You look around the flower shop a bit uncertainly, before nodding. That's...good to hear.

"I believe so, too." Fabiola isn't smiling now, rather studying you carefully.

...Yes. Right. You remember something about the Head Maid acting strangely. Does she still need your help?

"The Head Maid seems to have calmed down a bit, when she saw the young master being preoccupied with Minase-sama. She believes that Minase-sama's company is doing the young master good, getting him out of his shell."

[1/2]
>>
>>23978637

The maid hesitates a bit. "Although...it is not with a small amount of wistfulness that she talks about this, of course."

That's something to take note of, at least.

"The Head Maid has always been mysterious, at least to me. She is honest and hardworking, but she keeps a side of her hidden, even to the young master. We do not pry or question, what only matters is that we serve as well as is expected of us. And the Head Maid had served beyond expectation, every time." Fabiola seems to be careful in her words here, and you decide not to pry any further. She knows how to reach you, anyway, in case you're needed.

What about her? Why is she out so late at night, buying flowers?

"An order, direct from the young master. A surprise for Minase-sama, for tomorrow. The exact details of it I'm not aware, but I am reliably informed that an expensive dinner and a night out in the town is involved." A wistful smile. "And you? Surely you did not simply stop to just talk to me, Magical Girl?"

...Not exactly.

What do you do next?

>>

Then we put it in her hair. Or behind her ear. Mixed signals ho.
>>

Pinky already HAS said something about it.

She respects Midori enough that she'll compete for Chiaki's affections fairly and with honor.
>>

I do not think that is possible.

But yeah Pinky might get jealous.
>>
>>23978949
Pinky already said her part. Midori will get a fair fight.
>>
I dunno, I think it'd be kind of out of character for us to get Midori an overtly romantic gift like that at this point.

Some manner of thank-you gift, yes. But a flower strikes me as not being very appropriate for Chiaki. It should be something decidedly more awkward. Something really brash that we'd like, not really realizing that it might not be the most appropriate thing. Like a bottle of whisky or something.
>>
>>23978976
Yes, but what constitutes a fair fight in Faust's view? Because just because she said it'll be a fair fight, doesn't mean that Midori will be able to come out of it alive.

>>
>>23979109
I didn't really think she was
She dislikes violence but when it is necessary will use it. As a callidus she would obviously rely more on her illusions to avoid combat and control opponents

She did do quite well with the machine gun we handed her against the bears
>>
>>23979149
She's never killed a person
>>
>>23979163
We could give her an air pistol with tranquilizer darts.
Or maybe a dazzler-type laser weapon (even if they are banned by the Geneva Convention).

Doesn't have to be a lethal option.
>>
>>23979163
But tried to sex another girl with a lot of random man in the room raping another girl at the same time.

Also, nothing wrong in the idea of pacifistic killing.
>>
>>23979195
Admittedly a low point in her career
>>
>>23979163
Never killed a person =/= pacifist.

Pacifism is an ideology. Just because you've never done something that ideology denounces doesn't mean you adhere to it. And given that her role is based on subterfuge rather than combat, it's fairly plausible that she's simply never been in a situation where she needed to kill someone.
>>
>>23979163
Pacifists generally don't kill at all
You might claim extraordinary circumstances but really Midori isn't a pacifist.

There is a difference between avoiding/disliking violence and being a pacifist. The former is a reaction while the second is a decision
>>
>>23979163
The barrier in Siberia was also her first Witch-related mission, despite what she told Chiaki during the takoyaki making. Might need to talk with her to reconcile facts with stuff said under duress.
>>

After a moment's thought, you shake your head, allowing yourself a small, yet brittle smile. No, you tell her. Not just to talk to her.

You turn to the shopkeeper who seems to be keeping himself busy behind the cash register - you'd caught him ringing up Fabiola's order - and ask him if he has any blue roses available. The shopkeeper nods, gesturing to the sliding refrigerator display at the farthest end, saying that he has a dozen left. You nod at this. You'll take them all, you tell him.

"...Blue roses?" Fabiola asks, her eyes widening slightly as she receives her receipt, before the shopkeeper himself goes to fix your own order in a proper bouquet. "I...do you have any idea what those mean in flower language, Magical Girl? Or is it simply one of your customs, the significance of which is kept secret from the rest of the world?"

They're just flowers, you tell the Maid as you hand over your debit card to the shopkeeper. She shouldn't read into it too much.

"...Yes, well. I am sure that what they mean in the language of the flowers does not figure into you buying them. Yes. Of course." Fabiola replies after a moment, as she watches you receive your order. It's a tastefully-done bouquet, and the flowers themselves have quite long stems with the thorns shaved off. You get your card and your receipt a moment later. "Well, it appears that you're in a hurry. I will leave momentarily, so...it has been good to see you again, Magical Girl. Do you have any message you'd like for me to convey to Minase-sama?"

You shake your head no at this, but much too quickly.

You're just happy that Iori's happy, you tell her. And this conversation never happened.

"What conversation?" Fabiola smiles innocently. "Goodbye, Magical Girl. I hope we meet each other yet again in more favorable circumstances. Maybe...I will take a place in the line after all. Or take a number."

...You shake your head at this. You bid her goodbye, and make for the car. Kyoko had stepped out, industriously chomping on some Pocky.

"Took your time, there." The Eversor remarks, before holding out the half-empty box to you. "Want one? And what's the flowers for?"

You take one of the chocolate-dipped sticks. You just felt like buying them, you explain without going further. Which is...practically the truth, but not the complete truth. You wonder if this was what Kyuubey felt like.

"Yeah, okay. Sure." Kyoko shrugs. "Get in. We're still in schedule, I guess. I'll have to floor it for a bit, but we'll get there in time." She grunts as the both of you get in your respective seats, Midori still fast asleep. You place the bouquet on your lap, before allowing Midori to once more lean her head on your shoulder.

"So what did you guys talk about?" One of the few friends you've got asks as the limousine barrels through the road once more.

Maid stuff, you say, and leave it at that.

Yeah. Just maid stuff.

The rest of the trip back to the Officio is rather uneventful. With it being after dark and everything, it's not as active as you'd like, although you look up at the building with a sense of...nostalgia, you suppose. You missed it. It's only been two weeks, but those two weeks felt like months.

The guard stationed for the night doesn't seem to recognize you, blocking you and Midori access after allowing Kyoko to pass through - and she gets an irritated, if half-hearted scolding from the Eversor for this. You tell Kyoko to let her be, she was just doing her job - and it's not her fault you look barely recognizable at the moment. You probably don't even match your ID picture right now.

"Yeah, alright," Kyoko grumbles, carrying the luggage containing the Golden Weapons one-handedly, as if it weighed little. "Sorry. I guess I got a bit...well, I got reminded of how Yuma got really screwed up by what happened. Mind, she's improved a lot since then, but..." She shakes her head. "Ah, nevermind, we'll talk about it later." She glances at Midori - you've managed to wake the Callidus up after a few moments' shaking, and you'd held her hand the moment she stepped out of the car. The bouquet held carefully in your other hand, resting on your shoulder.

"Here, is she going to be alright?" The Eversor asks, concerned. "She was saying some stuff in her sleep earlier, back in the car. Somethin' about you needing to come back to her, stuff like that."

You glance at Midori, before turning to Kyoko and nodding. Midori has...had a hard time in Siberia. You'll tell her all about it after you report to Kyuubey, you promise. But Midori should be fine, she just needs more sleep.

"Alright." Kyoko's eye narrows slightly at you, before she turns away. "Just tell me if you need me to take her into sick bay or somethin'."

You nod at this. Beside you, Midori yawns, before shaking her head.

[3/4]
>>
>>23979821

"I-it's okay, sempai. I'm fine." The Callidus slurs, her voice still thick with sleep. "Just need a bit more shut-eye, and I'll be okay."

You're worried, but...well. You need sleep yourself, so you can understand her, at least.

With that, all three of you make your way up to Kyuubey's Office.

Pity. You were half-expecting a grand welcome, but...well, them's the breaks.

The doors to Kyuubey's Office open to reveal none other than Mami, slumped in front of Kyuubey's desk - seemingly having fallen asleep on her arms. A plate of still-steaming pancakes placed on the table beside her, along with a clear crystal pitcher of syrup and a pre-sliced stick of butter on a saucer. The smell makes your mouth water as soon as it hits you, but even that goes out the window as the blonde lifts her head slowly to blearily blink up at you.

She does so once, twice. And beside you, Kyoko muffles an awkward cough with a fist, before breaking the silence with a greeting. "Er...yeah, Mami-san. I went and fetched Murderface from the airport, just like you asked." She smiles. "She's still in one piece, and she still remembers us."

Mami's eyes go wide at this - and you note with some horror at the hint of eyebags underneath the blonde's amber eyes - and she murmurs your name with the same kind of desperation that you'd heard Midori whisper yours in her sleep. Another moment, and she'd walked around the desk, and you see her office lady suit wrinkled and rumpled as she steps towards you.

"Chiaki-san...Chiaki-san!"

You drop the bouquet - and Midori's hand - as Mami suddenly pulls you into an embrace, a warm, soft one, smelling of honey and pancakes and sweetness and tears. Dimly, you feel her crying into your shoulder.

"I...I heard what happened! Souji-san called us, briefed us about the situation...! I thought we'd lost you, Chiaki!"

Where did this come from all of a sudden?

all the bits about pulling the MiGs out
>>
>>23979905
Souji probably mentioned the memory loss we had after the procedure, and Mami was worried we forgot everything again.

Should we throw something in about remembering a little more than we did?
>>
Random question, but did we (the readers) ever find out Kharn's father's name at any point? I need to know for a little something I'm working on.

>>

Thanks, I appreciate it.

>Chiaki? Well, It's not so good. She KIND OF lost her memory. What do you mean by "again?"
>Jesus, please, don't cry on me.
>Yes, yes, everything is proceeding without further complicatons. Her memory? Same as befor- Please, do not cry, my heart can't stand It
>What? Chiaki? Fuck, I don't know, the whole base is on fir- I mean everything is fine please don't cry, please I SWEAR everything is fine and not on fire

And that was the last time Mami called. Must be tough having so strong motherly instincts
>>
>>23980251
And she was away for only 2 weeks. Look at what happened. Mami can't let her eyes off Murderface even for a moment.
>>

>Should we get a steamroller at some point?
YES!
Best use for it is to be dropped in timestop.
I'm almost certain one of our eldritch friends would find the scene very fitting.
>>
>>23980206
After skimming through Kharn's flashback and using Ctrl+f for "Valnikov" and "Father" individually, I could not find a name anywhere.
>>
>>23980367
I'm almost certain she'd help out.
>>

"Can't get rid of me that easily," you find yourself replying deadpan, even if you felt tears springing to your own eyes as well. Mami cries even harder at this, hugging you a bit more tightly.

It's...strange. Always has been. You've seen strange things, disturbing things, things that shouldn't be. You've managed to stare at them without so much as flinching. But the sight - and sound - of Tomoe Mami crying was not something you could bear so easily. What made it worse than everything you've seen so far? You have no idea, and yet you feel repulsed, infuriated even, at the mere thought of it. It meant a grave injustice has been done, fueling your knee-jerk response for reparations made with force. Someone made Tomoe Mami cry, and therefore that someone needs to die.

...Whoever this prophet was, they were dead. You'd sooner burn this city in flames than allow harm to come to Tomoe Mami. You'd have hoped that what you did to Kirika would have served as a warning. Apparently, you need to make a second one.

You let Mami cry for a bit more before you...well, you do your best to awkwardly return the hug, your own arms coming up around her and clasping slowly. She shivers slightly at this, before drawing back and placing a quick kiss on your cheek, one that makes your own tear-stained cheeks redden once more.

"I knew it, though. I knew that...that Chiaki-san would fight to get back to us. She'd do her best or...or destroy the entire world trying!" Mami reaches up to wipe at her eyes with the sleeve of her uniform, before pausing and pulling out a handkerchief instead. "We...we've been worried sick ever since Souji-san alerted us about the situation. Kyuubey-san in particular, he was...very concerned."

What? The mutant cat? But--

[1/2]
>>
>>23980395

"Yeah, he was pretty upset too." Kyouko grins. "Just like a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Oh, for the record, we still don't know what happened, but we kinda inferred some of it. If things get bad enough that even the mutant cat gets distressed, well, then it's bad." It's then that Kyouko slaps you on the back, making you wince. "But hey, you're back, right? S'all that matters!"

...Yes. You suppose.

Of course, erm. You look back at Midori, who's visibly trying to stay awake and look a bit miffed at the current situation - and you take her hand and pull her forward. Back to your side.

You tell them the real reason you're back and in one piece. Midori, who jumped in two overlapping nightmares to rescue you. The only person who went in without a moment's hesitatioin. Without her, you wouldn't even be here talking to them.

"...Yes, of course, we know that," Mami smiles through her tears, and she steps forward to pull Midori into a hug as well. The green-haired Callidus squeaks at this, although she seems to fall limp in such an embrace. "Everyone in the Officio will know her name, of course. The girl who saved the future Warmaster of the Ninth. There will be awards, I'm made to believe. And it should be right." She lets go of Midori. "...Thank you for bringing back Chiaki-san for us, Midori."

"It's...it's alright," Midori mumbles, swaying slightly on her feet. This gets a concerned look from Mami. "Midori-san, are you alright?"

"M'fine, really," Your Callidus replies, her brow furrowing, before all but collapsing in your arms. The luggage crashes to the floor as Kyoko rushes forward to help out. The both of you hoist Midori back to her feet, while Mami looks on worriedly.

"I think we should get her to sick bay now, yeah? Just to get everything checked out." Kyoko says. You nod at this, and make to leave with her, but Mami places a hand on your arm.

"I'll take care of Midori personally, Chiaki-san," Mami replies firmly. "...Let us take care of the rest, for now. She's done enough. You've done enough." A smile breaks her professional expression. "The both of you need rest, and while I can see that you're concerned, it won't do if you're there in the room while she's being checked. It's probably nothing, but the moment something is found, we'll notify you right away."

You nod at this. You...well, you're not sure at all at the moment, but Mami knows what she's doing, right?

"I'll come back for you once we've made sure Midori-chan is in the sick bay and getting the care she needs. In the meantime, you can enjoy the pancakes I've made for you, Chiaki-san." she gestures to the table, where the nearly-forgotten pile has been left steaming. "I made sure to make them special for the occasion. I hope you like them."

You...you have a feeling you will. You nod again.

Say, where is Kyuubey, anyway?

"He was called to an urgent meeting with the Incubators, a few hours before you arrived. He'll be arriving shortly, I believe." It's then that Mami nudges you towards Kyuubey's desk. "Now, go on, Chiaki-san, before they get cold. Midori is in safe hands." A moment. "Oh, and please don't touch Kyuubey's computer."

They leave before you could say anything else, leaving you alone in Kyuubey's office. With the golden weapons. And a pile of pancakes, made specially by Tomoe Mami.

After a while, you make your way behind the desk, settling in on the high-backed leather chair. Swiveling it a couple of times, before pulling it forward to get you nearer to the desk. Sliding the plate of heavenly delight towards you, so it's right in front.

You pour a healthy amount of syrup, place a square of butter on the uppermost cake - and then, with fork and knife, begin to feast.

You could cry. You really could.

And you do so.

You're home. For what it's worth, you're home.

So we're to make It TWO weeks?

Are we going to get some unrelated sidequests during next few sessions or are we getting some short healing time and plot-diving?

awesome, i half expected the entire officio to come welcome us and be stunned that we've changed so much in 2 weeks

enough time to surprise people next thread.

>"He was called to an urgent meeting with the Incubators, a few hours before you arrived."

Looks like it is, I doubt anything good is being discussed at the meeting.
>>
>>23980540
Who wants to bet that it's about Chiaki and the incubators are not happy that another MG came back from being a witch.
IIRC, Juubey said the other incubators weren't very pleased that Kyubey kept Kharn.

I have a feeling that using Mirai's soulgem as a house for Midori's soul may be having some negative side-effects.

We should ask QB if there's any truth to what Jyuubei said, about the 9th being out of sorts with the other Incubators, and if he's heard about the Magical Girl with the 5 Golden Weapons.
>>
>>23980786
>>23980490
Say, shouldn't we have 5 weapons too?
Or did Kharn not give a fuck about the golden staff in her flashback and just left it there?
>>
>>23980825

I'm guessing that one of her bad decisions was about what to do with the staff.

Trophy?
Glorified paper weight?
just left it there?

who knows?
>>
Thinking about it. If we encounter another Ahriman or at least, someone who is fanatical towards the blessed lady. We can troll them by saying

"You claim to be so devoted to the Blessed Lady, but I doubt she's even told you her true name."

Given Kharn's general attituted it probably depends on how suitable thing's shape and size was...

Malal was probably sensible enough to store it somewhere safe.

Hopefully.
