http://tgchan.org/kusaba/questdis/res/69289.html#69425

You are a human-form gargoyle crafted of marble set to protect a small town on the frontier of the wild darkness. Your people are still ignorant of what you are, and rightfully so.
Knowledge of what you are would simply prove that they fear you or the monsters among them tempt your destruction.

Last night: You were informed of a recent development of the village by Pastor Clegane.

He spoke to you of a shipment that had been delayed, inciting the fury of the town's resident noble, Victora Manse.

As the day went on, you took notice of an unnatural snow in the mid of summer. Father Clegane had said that the village had not had snow during summer in any of his years, you suspect foul play.

With the onset of night, you met the nightly guest of the church, the young witch by the name of Alice.

Alice appeared nervous before you, having heard tales of your kind. However, you swore to her that she was under your protection as well. The noble guardian angel of Hearthson shelters all peaceful beings under its watch!

With the night, a blizzard rolled in that impedes your path to the west.

Channeling the primal knowledge of the Forest troll, you awaken to a command over the winds, overpowering the winds of the blizzard and even increasing your speed!

In the western mountains, you sense human-like life... yet when you turn to seek it out... it vanishes... The blizzard rages on, and you are but one gargoyle, how will you ever solve this by dawn?
>>
You find that it is most prudent to investigate the life-signs. You turn, finding that the closest among them are actually the ones to your rear, eastward as you remember it.

You begin to walk though the thick snow, soon finding that you feel eyes upon you. Eyes that you yourself cannot yet see.

The human-like life signatures disappear. You can no longer feel them, yet the awareness of you... that remains...

Do you... continue?

Repeat of last nights suggestion, I can't think of anything better.

We can feel that the magic is much stronger here. Strong enough to overpower our own wind control.
See if we can track it to its source.

Cast Dominance and Gust. See how strong the resistance is.

Move a few hundred meters and try again.

Is the resistance stronger or weaker?

Head in the direction you feel the magic is strongest.
>>
>>23932710
Have we tried simply calling out to and greeting whoever is generating the blizzard? Perhaps they are only doing this because we are an unknown, uninvited intruder?

[X] Continue Eastward, then.
>>
You proceed cautiously through the snow, heading towards the last trace of that human-like life, going east, from whence you came. You periodically attempt to control the winds, still finding that your magic is muddled and subverted by the oppressive craft of whatever's out there.

Your body sinks heavily into the snow as you tread, the ripping winds making it difficult for you to fly.

You hear another inhuman, howling shriek echo through the mountains. The source unidentifiable.

As you continue, you pick up more traces however they disappear. You still feel like you are being watched, despite lacking the ability to see in these low visibility conditions..

Just.. what is out there?

You stick by the road, and you have yet to find any trace of the missing shipment heading towards the village.

>[] Continue on eastward, you must find what's out here.

>[] There are more pressing matters to attend, head westward to seek out the supplies.

>[] Give up the search and continue east, returning to the village on a tailwind.

Your casting of gust has shown that whatever is watching you is indeed nearby, you are close to the source.

It's a distraction, clearly.
>>

Our path westward is slowed by the blizzard. Progress will be slow and on foot.

Giving up and returning to town will not solve anything.

>you are close to the source.
[x]Expand our senses as far as they'll go. Search outward in a spiral pattern.

Ignore the 'human-like' life signs that keep appearing from nowhere then vanishing. I suspect they are just a distraction to lure us away.

You stop for a moment, gathering your wits about you. The human-like signatures that appear just as quickly as they disappear... This is like to be a distraction, however that alludes to an intelligent creature. You draw your daggers of iron and silver, feeling quite wary of this... With your path impeded, you open up your senses, seeking out life that may be a little less human, and not quite as fleeting.

You detect something that remains a constant and plow through the snow to seek it out. You will not be outdone by a creature of these mountains.

As you pass beyond a tree, you see the outline of a human-like creature and pursue it as it flees.

There is indeed foul-play here on this mountain. It plagues your town and you will see to an end of it!

Gradually, as you chase the creature West now, you find that it has stopped. It turns to look at you, and you an make out a gaunt white body. Mostly humanoid in shape.. however its eyes... its eyes are yellow and pale, glowing like the moon when it is full.

You sense many more of these creatures looking upon you, as many as ten, perhaps more that have not revealed themselves.

You hear one from beyond shriek out into the night, and the one before you growls low. Low and angry. It grips a club in one of its hands composed of a stick with a stone at the end.

What are these things, savages?

You wrap yourself in darkness, deciding to obscure the vision of the Wendigo, as they have done to you.

As you do so, you hear one of them howl into the night and feel a sharp blow to the back of your head as one of the creatures has taken the initiative to strike you.

The marble of your body fractures from the brutal blow, yet you seek out the creature's hollow life with one of your daggers, catching nothing as it leaps out of the way.

You feel that it is prudent to try casting Gust to allow flight right now, and the spell calms the wild winds, as the creatures' horrible eyes pierce through your veil, One charging at your front.

Your dagger finds flesh in the cut, stabbing it deeply into its emaciated stomach, the creature howls as the silver pierces its flesh, and it attempts to flail its club at you regardless.

You cut into its arm with your second dagger and proceed to cut at its throat, putting the creature out of its hungry misery.

You see more eyes piercing through your veil and a cacophony of angered howls ring together with such an explosion that you feel the fracture in your head vibrating even as you are healing.

One of the angered creatures leaps from the snowblind and you direct the daggers into the creature's heart.

A second monster falls and you look about, the rest seeming restless, yet they do not retreat.

You had though to simply wound these creatures, however it does not seem that you will be able to get away with that...

eight monsters remain, they have grown more cautious. Either they are as savage and animalistic as you have seen, or you only killed the stupid ones.

You hear a far off roar, unlike any monster you've encountered yet. You sense the sudden spoke of wariness in the monsters before you, yet they remain before you, slowly surrounding you.

I suspect that's the source of our trouble. Keen an eye out for this new life-sign. We don't want it sneaking up on us while we're bogged down in Wendigos.

Also, make note of the direction. Once we've cleared up here, we'll probably have to go that way.

You spread the influence of your shadows, increasing the range of the screen, yet it is to little avail as you sense the creatures organizing themselves about you.

Three dart in from all around, pinpointing you despite your shroud.

You manage to block the one of the creatures before you, even catching the flesh of its arm with one of your daggers.

Your reaction to the ones that attacked from your undefended side is not quite as great however, their clubs come down, one to your wing, causing a critical fracture and the other sweeps your leg, causing you to fall with a hairline crack.

You attempt to get up as the others descend upon you, their clubs raining down a hammer of blows, causing parts of your wings to fall off as you defend yourself, other blows sweeping into your arms and legs, further fractures and chips coming off that barely hold themselves on. The things hit hard with their clubs.

With a sudden surge of anger, you roar with the rage of your demonic nature, giving the beasts pause and you take flight abruptly, forcing a powerful gust to knock them aside. Targetting two that have been blown together, you descend upon them with your knives cutting deep into their ghoulish flesh.

You absorb the souls of the fallen four, and you feel the hungry beast awaken within you...

The remaining monsters glare at you and slip away into the pitch black blizzard. They scatter in every direction, not one goes the same way as another... It will be impossible to get them all.

4/10 slain.

You hear the roar from the west call out again, louder and angrier than the last.

Wendigo Traits.

10 is player choice.

1 Savage: You are closer to the nature of the demon, finding polite etiquette more difficult. Prone to displays of extreme violence.
2-3 Hunger: You have an odd taste for human flesh, forcing you to will it down lest you find that you need to feed..
4: Cold Aura: The air around your body is chilling, even in the midst of summer. It an unnatural sensation.
5-6 Voice of the Wind: You have the ability to detect life on an increased scale. Regardless of visibility or even magical protection. The winds themselves betray the secrets of your enemy.
7-8 Demonic Agility: You have the lithe grace of the wendigo on the prowl. You are stealthier and more agile despite your stone body.
9 Demon of Winter: You have the ability to wield the cold as though it is part of your form. Enhancing all of your attacks and your steel with the horrible bite of frost.
>>
>>23935191

Demon of Winter also allows augmentation of relevant Primal skills.

On the aside, Wendigo are brutal creatures of demonic origin. Along with the troll, it has reduced the cost of all Brutality traits by 1 point. No further reductions are applicable.

>>
>>23935191

>>
>>23935225

4 isn't really that bad, and I think we can counteract 1-3 with later purchase of the discipline abilities. I say we go for it, the good abilities are worth the cons.
>>
>>23935141
Once the Wendigos digest, we'll have at least 7XP.

Assuming this big thing is worth at least 2, we could have 9XP.

If the Wendigos settle in time. We could buy Soul Syphon /before/ we kill this other thing and gain even more XP from it.

Although, we may want to spend some of our XP for the fight. This thing seems like it could be a Boss level monster.

If that turns out to be the case, we can spend 3XP now and should still have enough to get Soul Syphon tonight.
>>
>>23935191
Actually, most of those are fairly helpful with the exceptions of 1-3 and to a lesser degree 4. As awful as getting a taste for human flesh or goretastic murder would be, I say we take the risk and go for it.
>>
>>23935252

Here's an idea. We roll for the Wendigo traits. If we get something good, that will help our defense against the boss, and we can spend on soul siphon.

If we get something bad, we can purchase burning hands to ensure our victory, and we'll still have soul siphon by the end of the night.
>>
>>23935191
Just take EXP.

We can buy any positive traits later without the risk.
>>
>>23935287
If we get something bad we risk going crazy and eating a villager when we get back to town.
>>
>>23935238
But the good ones are a serious boon--Demonic agility, plus our shroud, plus our regeneration turns us into the fucking king of the shadows.

Voice of the Wind would make our job a hell of a lot easier, too. Nothing can hide from us.

>>23935252
That's a good point...soul siphon lets us pick traits from high level monsters as well, doesn't it?
>>
>>23935191
That's worth rolling for - only 3/10 chance of something genuinely bad.
>>
>>23935315
But having soul siphon lets us get the exp to buy the traits we want later.

Take the gamble for power now, or take the safe bet for power later?
>>
>>23935287
If we take the Wendigo traits then we can't save the EXP for Soul Syphon.

If we get something bad it could permanently gimp us.

Do you want to hunger for human flesh? That could fuck up our whole job as protector.
>>
>>23935313

It's changed slightly, it descreases the chances for a bad trait to be rolled. anything 4-10 becomes positive.

>>
Just so you guys know, there are 4 souls to work with.

You can take just 1 for tait if you'd like.

As a note, monster traits are inherently more expensive than their exp yield.

For instance, Demon of Winter is 7 exp trait.
>>
>>23935338
>>23935308

My point is that we may not be able to defeat this monster without an upgrade now. If we can get that through a roll, then I'd rather take the chance than spend exp on Burning Hands. Then we can spend it on Soul Siphon and get super-exp from the boss monster.

>we eat one human

The solution to this problem is to avoid humans for a little while; wait until sunrise then fly back to roost just as we're solidifying. Then immediately leave town again, at least until we can control ourselves. And really, Stone Mason said we'd get an urge, not that we couldn't control it.
>>
>>23935315
Or, we can just take the EXP and buy good traits without the risk.

It's pointless taking the risk for no reason.

This is a good chance at a high level ability with a smaller chance of getting something that isn't even that bad.
>>
>>23935388
Interesting. How much experience points do we have now and how much do we need for Soul Siphon? We might be able to grab Soul Siphon with the three experience from the other wendigos and then roll for traits with one soul with bettered chances.

Focus on healing up, we took some heavy blows and I don't want to risk cracked wings in the blizzard. Use our newfound senses to pinpoint the enemy.

The souls need to 'digest'.

We'll see if we can get it before the fight or wait 'till after.
>>
>>23935814
Well that went very well. Oh, I meant to ask if we at some point acquired the troll version of regeneration, would that stack with or replace our current regen ability?
>>
With this lul in combat, you sort out the four new souls within your body, you have taken time to look over your damages, collecting and replacing your chips and fractures with your natural regeneration.

You are still fairly cracked from the assault, however you could have turned out much worse had you not been so solid.

You tap into the nature of one of the four souls, drawing upon its latent abilities as a demonic creature. You feel tinges of hunger, tinges of savagry, yet you push them to the back of your being.

Soon, you feel the call of the wind whipping around you, everything becoming so much clearer. You can sense the Wendigo even as their life signatures vanish, the wind tells you their location.

The roar echoes in the distance and you take wing to seek out this new threat, finding that opposing primal magic or not, you have mastery over your own wind.

You seek out the source, and feel tremors pounding through the air from explosive flashes in the direction of the triumphant call.

You've found one of the bigger fish in the mountains.

The winds tell you that it is mighty, imposing, and nearly savage.

You barely dodge an incoming fireball from your position in the sky, and another thunderous roar echoes through the mountains.

Initiative is lost, it senses you somehow.

Don't try to hide, that already failed with the Wendigos. This thing is bigger and badder. Also, could have sworn this thing was an ice monster.

You dive down low, speeding your progress with a quickly cast tailwind.

You spin out of the way of a fireball and see a few more explode in the dark.

You detect the flickering lives of four Wendigo as they seem to be fighting with this other creature. You hear anouther thundering roar as it directs another fireball towards you, finding a tree in the way of the attack.

You slip about the forest as lightly and nimbly as your body is capable.

You detect that the creature is heavy, as though it's not made of flesh. The thought crosses your mind... You have gone some distance from your own town... Perhaps..

In your thoughts, you suffer the blast of a nearby fireball, singing your robes, and getting knocked back into a nearby tree as another roar tears through the night. The intense flames that have been hurled around grant some light for sight.

You only now notice that the wind around this monster is rather calm... in fact, it seems that a good portion of the Blizzard is absent from this area.

The form of the monster you have approached is a shiny black, as the flames caomes off of its claws. Its eyes are burning red gems, and its form is betwixt that of beast and man with the wings of a demon.

You have encountered another Gargoyle.

The wendigos retreat from the beast and you see that it launches a hellish fireball from its claws before snapping out a claw that delivers a spark, causing another of them to convulse in pain, howling at the monster.

It seems that it is not differentiating you from the Wendigo...

You decide to enter the fray, slipping along through the winds in your shadowy form, you catch a pair of steadfast Wendigos by surprise that had actually done well in casting some kind of magic to nullify those harsh fireballs.

Just as you begin to take their souls, you feel a fireball explode against your form, knocking you back and burning the front of your robe.

Cracks run across your surface from the direct hit and you shake it off, standing up and preparing to yell at the offensive gargoyle for its mad behavior only to have a pair of Wendigo strike you from behind and use you as a shield for another incoming fireball.

The heat passes over you and your robe has become nothing but cinders.

The pyromaniac Gargoyle closes in, fires burning hot as it glares at you savagely with its ruby eyes, Sending two fireballs over your shoulders to do away with the Wendigos attempting to use you as a 'human' shield.

The rest begin to flee into the snows.

The temperature difference in hot and cold causes the cracks in your body to run deeper than you would have liked.

The demonic, black Gargoyle snarls at you in an almost savage rage, its voice thick with demonic overtones," You.. You are in the way. Return to your own territory before I shatter your pathetic body, gravel."

You see that the demon-like Gargoyle is not only composed of responsive- black obsidian, but it also wields a staff of what appears to be bone and charred wood.

You notice in its flames that there are various fractures across its body... It seems that it hasn't come out unscathed from the Wendigos... or whatever else this night.

>>
>>23936879

Seconded. Let's just leave.

Well, we need to ask him if he's the source of the blizzard, and if he is, if he could lift it.
>>
>>23936813
Great, this thing is boarder-line rabid.
>[x] Say nothing, and flee.

Fall back to the edge of sense range and the wild Gargoyle continue its hunt.
We will watch from afar and judge the best time to swoop in.

Also, will Shape Earth work directly on a Gargoyle?
>>
>>23936896
He's using Gust, or a similar power to keep the blizzard away from him. It's probably coming from the Wendigoes, winter-powers are thematically appropriate for them.
>>
>>23936914

The magic that animates other gargoyles would make them extremely resistant.

>>23936893

I don't want to fight him right now but I don't think we should just leave either.
Neither the Wendigos or the Gargoyle seem to be the source of the blizzard. He's already damaged, he may not have enough left for the Boss-Fight.

I say we let him continue his hunt and jump in if needed.
>>
>>23936813

"This blizzard is unnatural, and I seek to destroy its source. If that is your goal as well, we should join forces. I will stay in the shadows, out of the way, and assist if you require it."
>>
>>23936893
I like this, but we need to play up the fact that we have a legitimate concern - the missing shipment of goods - for being here. If one caravan goes missing more will follow and the quicker we can resolve this mess and the one that brought us here, the faster we will be out of elder brother's hair facsimile.
>>
>>23936952
>It's probably coming from the Wendigoes
We got a list of the Wendigos powers when we ate their souls.
They don't have anything on this scale. Maybe if a large number of them were acting together? Maybe?

Either their is a FUCKHUGE number of Wendigos creating this huge blizzard somewhere, or there is a Boss Monster about somewhere.
>>
>>23937084

Add this. He's sober enough to recognize that we aren't here to hurt him and stop attacking us. Make the subject about defending our charges to get him on board.
>>
You have in mind to offer assistance for a moment, yet you feel that this Black Gargoyle would not take too well to that based on what he's said and how.

You sheath your daggers on your belt and holsters, backing off some distance, you do have a couple questions," I will leave for now. Though I must know..."

"You waste my time." The Black Gargoyle launches a fireball at you as it continues on after the Wendigos.

Use of your enhanced Gust allows you to divert the trajectory, despite increasing the size. The explosion occurs in the mountaniside behind you and the Black One turns after flicking yet another fireball at the scattering Wendigos.

You call out," What is the source of this blizzard!"

"Gravel, are you so blind that you cannot see? These monsters are the cause, do not be fooled by their... hnng!"

A lance of ice tears through the dark and his obsidian body is chipped by the weapon, the Black one elicits an angered howl," Their savage nature!" as he sets his claws aflame and whips another fireball in your direction, Diverted slightly, yet it explodes without contact, knocking you into the snow, your cracks reopening from previous regeneration.

The Black One is felt through the snow and wind of the mountain...

You feel that you had best let him be... But perhaps some time to recover may be prudent...

[X] Return to the road, staying away from that other Gargoyle, and seeking the lost shipment.

Hmm, I guess their power over cold can do a lot if enough of them work together.

>[x] Take time, waiting for regeneration to take hold...
He is already damaged and still charging strait in. Considering how rabid and reckless he seems to be, he's probably going to get himself killed.

>[x]Track him from a safe distance.
Let him hunt the Wendigos and kill all he can. If/when her falls, we can swoop in and finish the job.

If he doesn't fall, fine. We both go our own way.

>the lost shipment.
If the shipment is even in the mountains, it's stuck in the snow right now. We help them by stopping the blizzard.

>If he wants to be a faggot and get himself killed, I say we let him.
I'm all for that. My only concern is, him being a faggot will leave the job incomplete. If the blizzard continues, our town could die.

Working together would have been the best option but, y'know, he's a faggot. That means it'll probably be up to us to finish the job.

We need to track his progress from a safe distance so we know when to jump in and finish off the survivors.
>>
>>23937466

I'm 100% on board with that as long as we take a moment to regenerate first.
>>
You take a moment to let yourself regenerate.. The most recent damages have left several cracks thoughout your body. You focus on the deep cracks within your wings first to ensure safe flight.

You figure that you'll let the regeneration continue as you get out of this battlefield and back to the road.

As you take flight, you feel the rest of the Wendigo souls settle within you, providing you with a total of 6 exp.

You use your new found senses over the winds to find the road in short order.

You sense the presence of a few humanoid lives to the west along with the presence of several large carts... It seems that you have finally been able to locate the shipment but...

Something doesn't seem quite right... There are no animal signatures... and the humanoid signatures... Don't feel like they are entirely 'there.'

You proceed closer to your original goal and see the ones at the site of the wreck are indeed human, or at least, they appear to be.

You see the people ... numbering six, with weapons in their hands... two of them have maces, three have swords, and one has a greatsword...

You channel the knowledge into the dark part of you that feeds upon souls... You feel a keen emptiness that needs to be filled as you unlock the limiting magic within you and refine it further.

You have gained Soul Siphon! 1 exp bonus per monster!
Numbers 4-10 on trait rolls will be positive effects.

You back off a bit from the people of the shipment, they seem fairly desolate and stand among the cold winds without moving..

The whole scene is rather... Odd. They just keep staring at each other. Some take minor movements, primarily towards what you make out to be the dead, yet otherwise it seems that they are fine... as they are.

You note the direction of these wagons and fly off to the north, keeping the black gargoyle at the frige of your senses. You soar near a peak. Seeing rapid explosions of fireballs now and again... Your... Rival? Seems to still be ticking strong...

Another thing I greatly enjoy are the suggestions by the way. Not once have those shallow, edgy dumb suggestions I abhor so much been dominant, waifus where never sought, even our interaction with Molly was in-character. All in all the Quest is well-made and the suggesters are of the rare reasonable breed.

You even followed my suggestion of making a discussion page on tgchan, which no other quester has done so far. I hope you like having a dedicated space for discussion and even a wiki page.
