You are a Magical Girl, and you're on your flight back to Japan, after a rather rough week in Siberia.

...Yes. It's only been a week. More or less. Even though it felt like half a year. It certainly seemed that way.

You even have the hair to show for it, a long thick mass just hanging down your scalp, down your back, making your neck feel a bit too warm despite the air conditioning. You probably should've tied it back, or something. You thought about getting it cut right there and then, but Midori was quite insistent that you wait until you get back to Japan, at least. She sounded like she was planning something, despite sounding very, very tired. Misaka seemed to like it, anyway.

You glance at the night sky outside the window of the private plane. Narrowing your eyes slightly at your faint reflection.

You're going back home. Back to everyone.

All thanks to a certain green-haired Magical Girl who is snoring in her seat beside you. Both her arms curled around yours, her face nuzzled into your shoulder.

...You're just not sure if you're the same person she rescued, or something else.

...

You could really go for a cigarette right now.

Or some water.
>>
>>23871034

It's pretty quiet, here, inside the jet. Misaka seems to still be awake - she'd joined you in the return trip, despite seeming like she'd stay back, at first. ...It's obvious that she's not too pleased with what happened with Souji and Kharn, but you did see her give the former Warmaster a grudging hug before dashing up the stairs leading up to the plane.

In any case, she's doing work with Tiny Pete, it looks like. Or what appears to be just a part of him and his helmet - she'd said it was his AI core, where his machine spirit lived, or something. It looked much like a large silver sphere with a lot of wires, the entire thing attached to the inside of the tusked helm. The rest of the giant was stashed in the cargo bay, disassembled and packed into crates.

...Speaking of luggage, Kharn had sent you home with quite a bit. The first was a large metal case, easily as tall as her - the golden weapons, or at least the one not currently in your inventory. Her chainaxes and Kirika's sword. You found the Desert Eagle, funnily enough, hiding inside yours - even though you don't quite have any memory of putting it there in the first place. The bangles are there too, and you remember the conversation you had with the soul residing inside them. Kotaro Yuu, or something...maybe you could talk to her a bit.

The other piece of luggage was a smaller one - in fact, it's only slightly bigger than a shoebox, made of cardboard, and taped shut rather securely. It's a bit heavy, to be sure - but it's not clicking or ticking, at least.

...Unlike your shield, of course. Which has been ticking ever since you got back.

What do you do?

You know, I wonder if the pain is still there.

Anyways if we want to talk to pinky how about we move into the toilet first, shut the door, and the turn the shield.

Nor so much worried about Chiaki as Midori and Misaka. Pinky was rearing to kill them the last time we talked to her and this probably got even worse over the course of Midori's rescue mission.

You glance at your phone, specifically the diary app that's proven to be a bitch to unlock the entries in. You'd expect it to be a bit more accommodating now, seeing as you've gone through so much shit in the past few days - but it's still disabled, greyed out and unable to run. You grumble underneath your breath, completely disgusted at the app's temerity, before shoving the device back into your inventory. Stupid thing.

Well, at least you can still check on something. The clicking on your shield, for one. You can do something about that, although you'll have to be careful about it.

You turn your wrist slightly to look at your shield. ...It's still got its scar with the jagged edges on it, that's for sure. Nothing seems to be new. You can still see the gears whirring and spinning inside the thing. ...Of course, you don't quite remember most of them being gold. Or maybe...maybe they were to begin with? You're not sure.

You shake your head at this, before carefully, gently, removing your arm from Midori's embrace. The green-haired Callidus mumbling slightly in her sleep as you do so, deigning to embrace your arm a bit more tightly to her before finally relenting - albeit, with a small frown on her face. You find yourself murmuring an apology, before patting her hand and then rising from your seat. Wincing slightly as various aches and pains come to the fore at the movement.

Taking care of the clicking on your shield is easy. At least, you think it should be. You just have to make sure you're in a safe place to do so, away from both Midori and Misaka. An enclosed space, where at least you'll have a chance to cancel the time stop in case it got out of hand.

...The private jet's lavatory should be alright for that, or at least you think so.

>You probably should've tied it back, or something. You thought about getting it cut right there and then, but Midori was quite insistent that you wait until you get back to Japan, at least. She sounded like she was planning something, despite sounding very, very tired.

See, now i'm envisaging Midori setting up an awesome entrance for us to return with.

And it involves a hime-ponytail, and a Balalaika outfit replete with cigar and the Warmaster coat.

"Ah, Big Sister Murderface!" Misaka chirps cheerfully as you pass by her. She's sporting a couple of bandaids and bandages on her face and hands - it appears that she got a bit banged up while piloting Tiny Pete - but she's chipper as ever, sitting on the carpeted floor of the plane with tools and various fragments of Tiny Pete scattered around her. The AI core of the hulking murderbot on her lap, the various wires connecting it to the tusked helm on the floor twitching in random intervals. "Going to bathroom?"

...Yeah. Something like that, you reply, reaching out to ruffle the girl's hair, making her giggle and grin. As if she hadn't almost died trying to rescue you.

What do you do?

Hello, everyone!

>>23871450 >>23871457 >>23871462

You'll talk to her later, you decide. Besides, she'd pick up on the fact that you stopped on the way to a bathroom break, and figure out that you're doing something strange instead of attending to nature's call. Misaka's always been sharp like that.

"Okay! Make sure Murderface washes her hands! Murderface sometimes forgets!" She replies, before going back to whatever she was doing with Tiny Pete's core. Immediately preoccupied with her tools, in that intensely-focused way that children can disturbingly switch to in a drop of a hat.

You get to the private jet's lavatory without any other issues. It's...a bit bigger than you thought. It even has a shower, and a small tub. Nothing like the cramped, one-person stall that you once had to hide in during one escort mission, while terrorists hijacked the plane you and your principal had switched to at the last second. You remember the entire flight crashing, and...Malal suddenly appearing to whisk you and your principal out of it before it went up in flames.

You glance at your reflection on the lavatory mirror above the sink. You...look like you've always looked like. Well, except for the long hair. And the fact that there's a tiny dot of crimson in your eyes where your pupils once were. The rest look normal at least - the irises a dark purple, the whites...well, white, if a bit bloodshot.

You take off your glasses and rub your eyes a bit. You should probably look into getting more sleep.

The shield on your right arm is clicking. Louder, faster this time.

[1/2]
>>
>>23871716

You take a deep breath, before grasping the edge of the metallic disc and pushing.

The gears of your shield giving a grinding shriek, as if protesting loudly at the rather rough treatment - and it's then that the color of everything immediately fades into black and white. Time is now yours, free to be bent over a barrel and have your way with.

. . .

Wait, where's Pinky?

This is...disconcerting.

She's not around. Pinky - Faust - Madoka is nowhere to be seen in the small lavatory. You even checked behind the shower curtain, just to be sure. Nothing there, although you found the thought of seeing her in the shower momentarily entertaining, a small grin curling your lips.

...No. No, what are you thinking? This is Pinky, here. Get your shit together.

You call out her name, half-expecting your voice to be muted while speaking during a Time Stop - but your voice is clear, or as clear as it can be, what with your throat ravaged by too much alcohol and cigarette smoking. No response. You give everything another once-over, before you decide to step out of the enclosed space you wanted to confront her in. Maybe, just maybe, she's outside - which meant that Midori and Misaka were precisely in the situation that you didn't want them to be in.

Shit.

You all but tear out of the lavatory, nearly tearing the door off its hinges as you make to rush out of the door - when suddenly everything goes dark, courtesy of two gloved hands clamping over your eyes, slipping under your glasses and pressing your eyelids close. The smell of something cloyingly sweet tickles your nostrils, spiced with the scent of fresh blood. Sharp claw points distressingly pressing on the delicate skin of your eyelids, making them itch.

You immediately freeze in your tracks, quite unwilling to have your eyes torn out.

"Guess who, Homura-chan," whispers a lovingly-sweet voice in your ear.

How do you react?

Is it Hanako-san of the Toilet? You ask this as you try to calm your racing heartbeat, quelling the compulsion to reach up with both your hands and pull her hands off of your face. You...you're not frightened, not as such, but she did get you good there, you have to admit. At the very least, you know she hadn't been messing about with Midori or Misaka, or anyone else in the plane. You satisfy yourself instead by letting out what sounds almost like a mildly-annoyed sigh, and adding that you don't really believe in any ghost who chooses to spend her time haunting school toilets.

"Hanako-san...? Oh. Oh! Hee, you're such a kidder, Homura-chan! Wrong guess, though!" Pinky giggles in her usual airy way, before mimicking the sound of a buzzer. "Buuu! You lost your one chance at a special, one-of-a-kind treat! And I was really looking forward to give it to you too!"

It's with another giggle that she removes her hands from your eyes - and you blink them open, before re-adjusting your glasses. You turn around immediately to find Pinky standing behind you, and she's...well, strange. She's holding her hands behind her back, seemingly fidgeting on the spot while studying you with her sunless eyes of hers - much like a child debating on whether or not to confess to something naughty.

"Well, um...welcome back, I guess," Pinky suddenly says, bashfully. "I...I was worried when you got sucked into that Barrier. That wasn't supposed to happen." The pink-haired horror looks away. "I...I thought I'd be able to rescue Homura-chan myself, but I needed THAT thing's help anyway." She pouts as she looks at something over your shoulder, and you turn to follow her line of sight. Midori. ...You don't have all the details from the Callidus yet, and you don't quite remember EVERYTHING about what happened, but...for Midori to work with someone like Pinky to save you, well....

I... What?
>>
>>23872357

"Don't worry, I didn't do anything to her," The pink-haired girl suddenly snaps at you, and you realize that you'd been staring at Midori for far too long. "I'm not that kind of person, Homura-chan. Sure, I'd pull apart anyone who wanted to steal you from me, but she helped me, too. So I'm going to fight fair with her, at least where you're concerned."

...That's comforting, at least. You're really not sure what's going on here, but--

"Ah, Homura-chan, you're stupid!" The tip of Pinky's shoe cracks against your shin, and you wince at the sudden stab of pain. "You're supposed to be put together back again! Why are you still being stupid about a girl's feelings?!"

In...in your defense, you were hoping to see her in the shower...? Was that what she wanted to hear?

"Idiot!"

Well, here you are, then. You're some couple of hundred feet over ocean, inside a self-propelled flying aluminium coffin, having stopped time itself to have an awkward conversation with a pink eldritchian terror - who is blushing and pouting at the same time, in what could be in a cute way (if one found completely-black eyes and sharpened teeth cute). Sometimes you don't really get how you manage to throw yourself into this kind of situations.

...You take her pouting a bit harder at you as a sign that you should continue the conversation, and you do so - asking her about what really happened in the barrier. Yes, you're put back together. That much your remember, but everything else is a bit spotty, even after hearing it from Midori.

"...Midori-chan was really brave," Pinky says after a moment, eyes downcast, grinding the toe of her shoe into the carpet. "She saved me from the scary Homura-chan, the one with the ugly armor and teeth and spikes and all that. That Homura-chan was mean, really," She looks up at you with a child's distressed expression, both gloved hands reaching up to pat at her eyes. "Stuck both her thumbs into my face, screaming about how I should stop acting like a brat and stop making people suffer! The nerve! As if she'd forgotten just whose fault everything is, really!"

...Yes, well. You can see how that might sour her mood.

"I...I don't remember much about what happened after that, to be honest," Pinky says after another period of awkward silence between the both of you. "Well, u-um, Kharn did help me get to a safe place, but everything after that..." She shakes her head. "It's just a blank, really..."

[1/2]
>>
>>23872743

But why go through all the trouble, then? The both of you know that...well, it was your fault in the first place, what happened to her. What happened to everything. Wouldn't it have been convenient for her to just leave you there to die?

Pinky looks up at you, her sunless eyes wide in horror. "W-what? I...I'd never leave you in a place like that, Homura-chan! A-at least, not before throwing you in there myself!" She shakes her head in abject denial, both clawed hands reaching up to clamp over her ears. "N-no, no, shame on you for even suggesting such a thing! I'd never stoop to something that low, Homura-chan! Perish the thought!"

Then why--

"Because I GET TO KILL YOU MYSELF!" The sudden scream rocks you back on your heels, and it echoes inside your mind like a screeching wail. "YOU DON'T GET TO DIE, NOT THAT EASILY, WITHOUT BEING REMINDED OF YOUR MISTAKES!"

For the briefest moment do you see Pinky's face twist into the monstrosity that you'd encountered, on that abortive elevator trip down the Siberian Base's depths - insane, murderous justice given form of a twisted, malevolent goddess. A moment more, and her visage flickers back into the smiling face of Kaname Madoka.

"Besides, you haven't gotten all twenty yet! Four is a nice number, though, very lucky!" Pinky giggles, all smiles once more.

. . . You probably should abandon this line of questioning. Yes, fine.

What about that treat, then...? What did you just miss out on?

"Oh, that!" Pinky blinks. "Um, well...I guess it's a warning, I guess? A hint of a sort! About Mami-san!"

How do you react?
>>
>>23872756

>>

A warning about Mami...? If this is about her whisky pancakes, then you don't really need to be warned away from them, no. You appreciate the thought, though.

"W-what? Whisky pancakes...? Er, no, that's not what I'm supposed to warn you about..." Pinky's brow furrows. "Wait, Mami-san can make whisky pancakes? You can make pancakes with whisky in them?"

...Sure? You mean, no, you don't really know how to make them yourself, not the way Mami makes them, but if she could do that and have you end up in the Silent Room going cold turkey for weeks on end...then you're pretty sure that they can be made.

"I'll...probably have to look up on how to make them, then..." Pinky murmurs underneath her breath, before shaking her head and stamping her foot. "W-wait! The hint! Yes, it's not about those stupid things! I'm supposed to warn you about something that'll happen to Mami-san soon, but since you didn't guess who I was earlier, you're not getting it!" She sticks out her tongue at you, which would have been cute, if not for the fact that the gesture doesn't really translate when the one doing it has blood-pinked, pointy teeth. "Nyah, nyah! Stupid Homura-chan!"

You frown at this. You're...well, you realize that you're at fault of all this, somehow, and that if you step one wrong way here, you could very well get your heart torn out. But she can give you a break, can't she? Can't things go your way just once?

It's then that you decide to throw caution to the wind and offer her a deal. What if you give her something in exchange for the treat? A treat of your own, in fact. Something she'd probably like, and something you should've given to her long ago.

"Eh?" Pinky blinks at this, suddenly puzzled. "W-what would that be, Homura-chan? I--" Her words trail off into silence as you step closer to her, a small smirk on your face, and for once you realize that you're a bit taller than her, from the way she's looking up at you, her black eyes completely wide. "Homura-chan...?"

You give the pink-haired horror a hug. Embracing her smaller, slightly-warmer frame against yours, despite feeling every cell of your body reflexively flinch at this, despite her sweet-smelling, cloying perfume filling your lungs and nearly making you choke.

You thank her for saving Midori, and...well, yourself, too. While you're under no illusions of what happened between the both of you - the heart-ripping and face-shooting and so on - that doesn't mean you can't be civil like this every now and then.

Pinky squeaks in your grasp, wriggling slightly - and it's then that you feel her hands alight gently on your shoulders. For one terrible moment you imagine her claws suddenly sinking deep into your flesh and then ripping downwards, but all she does is to push you back slightly, her shoulders shaking.

Is...is she crying?

"...Too nice," Pinky sobs. "You're...you're too sweet, all of a sudden, Homura-chan...! You're not supposed to be like this to me! You're...you're supposed to hate me! I don't understand...!"

She pushes against you, again, a bit more firmly, this time, and you let her squirm out of your grasp. The Shield on your arm suddenly clicking again, quickly, furiously. You glance down at it, frowning at how ill-timed it is - and when you look back at Pinky, she's wiping away the tears of blood tracking down her cheeks.

"The...the hint is that..." She hiccups loudly, squeaking as she did so, and she shakes her head in irritation. "Mami-san will die unless you kill the Prophet first!"

The...the Prophet? What's that?

"I don't know! S-someone! And this time, it's not my fault, too!"

I still believe that an incubator being able to instantly make Megucas Witch-out by pressing the Self-destruct button might be some kind of a big deal in this setting.

Speaking of juubey, isnt the killing of our personnel, the attempted destruction of a secured facility and the attempted murder of a former Warmaster and the current warmaster in training should be sufficient provocation and reason to declare open war.

"Is that so?" Misaka blinks at your rather sheepish explanation, before she nods - but not without a frown. "Mmm, okay. But, ah, Misaka does not like it when Big Sister Murderface is smoking, you know? Smoking is bad for you, even if you're a Magical Girl! Misaka says this because Misaka looked into side effects of nicotine on someone's respiratory system!"

But she didn't mind at all before, way back then. What changed her mind now?

"Because Murderface is Misaka's big sister, now! Murderface now more important to Misaka than ever before!"

You grin at this, before walking toward to her and ruffling her hair again.

Despite the fact that you'd just gone through another one of Pinky's heart-racing tantrums, Misaka still could make you smile like nothing happened. She's a special kid, you'll admit that.

"Midori-chan doesn't like Big Sister Murderface smoking either, you know." The brown-haired russian arms dealer resumes work on the AI core on her lap. "She says she plans to hide Big Sister Murderface's cigarettes in places where she cannot find them!"

...She said that, didn't she? Well. You'll have to see about that, then.

It seems that you can talk to Misaka for a bit, here. You can also rifle through the box Kharn gave you, which is stashed under the seat you left earlier.

What do you do?

[]Talk to Misaka.
[]Go back to your seat and investigate the box's contents.
[]Go back to your seat and sleep the rest of the way. Everything else can wait until you get back.

Beats me. Twitter is fucking weird. Sometimes it seems like it'll only update if I open it, click over to another tab, and wait for the tab bar to show a new post. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME HEALING!?
>>
>>23873672 >>23873687 >>23873712 >>23873718

You decide to leave Misaka to her work. She looks like she's well and preoccupied with Tiny Pete already - and while the sight of her in bandages and such isn't all that nice of a sight to begin with, she seems chipper enough. You give her another affectionate pat on the head, before walking back to your seat, intent on finding out just what kind of package Kharn gave you. You pull it out from under your seat, before placing it on your lap just as you sit down.

A nagging thought pricks at the back of your mind as you try to find a tape edge to worry with a fingernail. Pinky's warning, as cryptic as it was, couldn't have been more direct. Tomoe Mami would die unless this Prophet died. Which meant that you needed to kill someone to ensure the survival of someone important to you. That was simple enough, nothing you haven't done before.

But who? What kind of prophet? Did she mean a Magical Girl with...with precognition, perhaps? You've run into those sort of Magical Girls before. You faintly remember a Haruka, one with blonde hair, but that was a long time ago, and-- oh, for fuck's sake.

In frustration, you pull the combat knife from the sheath strapped to your ankle - and with the point, you carefully slice through the tape adhering the lid onto the box. Kharn must've used an entire fresh roll of the stuff on the damn thing!

After a few more moments, you finally get the lid off. You pull it away and peer into the box's contents, curious as to what needed so much taping up. The former Warmaster did say that it was the package that Malal said to keep for you - along with a few additions from Kharn herself.

. . .

Well. This is...a surprise.

There is what appears to be a disassembled skull inside the package. It doesn't look like a real skull - you're pretty sure the normal skull isn't supposed to have tabs and slots and such, the sort you find in a plastic kit. A skull also isn't supposed to have something resembling a cybernetic eye implant poking out from its sockets, or an antennae, or such. Or inner machinery. Or a slot for triple A batteries. Or a Made in china stamp at the bottom. And the word REMOV scrawled on its forehead with permanent black marker.

...Did Malal leave you with a skull servitor toy? This was all the rage back then, and you faintly remember Kharn having one for a while. ...On second thought, you also remember that she did in fact name her skull servitor toy Remov, and you've stumbled on her using it as some sort of vocal diary, so--

Before you could continue your train of thought here, you see a piece of paper folded and stuffed into one of the skull servitor's eye sockets. You pull it out - it's been folded that way for a long time, by the look of the creases - and you read the short message written there.

>You'll need this, someday.
>Fill in the missing blanks and all.
>Kharn's thoughts, along with my own.
>Have Yuma look at it and assemble it for you. It needs some fixing.
>Take care of yourself, and don't drink too much.
>Malal

The only other item from the box - at least, from what you can tell - is Kharn's old Warmaster Cap. The golden piping has a few parts where it's stained red with blood, but...it's the real deal, that much is obvious.

You take it out of the box and turn it over. There's a note folded inside it, too, and you unfold it to read. What you see is rather careful, if stilted handwriting - the kind of stiltedness that comes with writing with blade for hands, most probably.

>Much better to die for someone rather than for yourself, I think.
>You are Warmaster now, and I will always be proud to have had you as my friend.
>The Blessed Lady protects! Oh, and visit when you can, yes?
>Ekaterina Valnikov

>P.S. It cannot fit here in box, but I am also giving you my own ushanka as souvenir. You can keep it, Souji says he hates how it smells of bear all the time and it is not a hat for a mother. Do with it what you wish.

Heh. Kharn.

...Well, that's handy. You could give that to Kyoko, Sayaka did ask you to get one for the red-haired Eversor, didn't she?

That seems to be everything inside the box, though. Unless you'd like to rummage around more?

[]Look inside the box for a bit more. Maybe there's something hidden in there? Malal's a tricky one.

>>
>>23874303 >>23874307 >>23874307 >>23874308 >>23874313

You rummage around the box for a bit, while being careful with the more delicate-looking pieces of the disassembled skull servitor toy. If you remember correctly, Malal has a penchant for...well, hiding stuff for you to find later, things that you may find handy at one point in the future. She had that kind of mind that would think about every eventuality, narrow them down to which has the highest probability of happening - as well as the lowest - and prepare for those. She was never caught unaware.

...well, except when she died, of course. You don't remember much of that, yourself, and Kharn was pretty mum about that. She didn't even spill it the night before you left, when you and her got horribly drunk. The both of you giggled and laughed and cried and cursed about everything, and nearly got into a fistfight, but just before the both of you staggered back to your quarters, she mumbled an apology about being such a horrible person - and you only reached up and gave her a pat on the head. Sure, you had to stand on your tiptoes to do so, and had her slouch a bit for you to reach, but there it was.

In any case, your further squirreling about the package reveals what looks like a small white envelope, unsealed. Inside is what looks to be a small wallet-sized picture of a girl with pink hair and crimson eyes, wearing a magical girl costume that was very, VERY familiar. It was obviously a self-taken photo, seeing as the girl was holding a smartphone up with one gloved hand - the other holding a sideways V sign with her fingers over her right eye. A forced smile on her lips.

You turn the photograph over, and you see something written at the bottom.

>No one must know my secret.

>Kaneda Madoka

[1/2]
>>
>>23874743

...Did you just get a photograph of Malal?

There's something else inside the envelope, too. Some kinda strip of fabric, folded carefully.

...It's a pink ribbon. Nearly red, in fact. The same ribbon that the girl is wearing in the picture.

Huh. There's a thing.

You place the ribbon and photograph back in the box. After a bit more searching, you come to the conclusion that there is nothing else hidden, and make to close the box.

Your eyes fall down to the Warmaster cap, the embroidered skull on its face grinning almost cheekily at you.

Well, why not? Just for a bit. You're not ratified yet, yes, but you're NEARLY the Warmaster. Surely there isn't anything wrong if you wore the thing for just a few minutes.

You lift the hat of authority carefully from the package, dusting it off, before placing it on top of your head. Pulling down on the sides gently. It's...well, it's a perfect fit. A disturbingly perfect fit. Yet another precaution of Malal's, perhaps?

You turn to glance at your own reflection on the nearly-reflective surface of your seat window.

. . .Not too bad, you decide. It clashes a bit with your costume, but...you could see yourself wearing it. Maybe with a greatcoat, like Kharn's. With the epaulettes and everything.

You face forward, addressing an imaginary squad of Magical Girls.

"You, get me something to drink." You growl at one, pointing at her. "You. Get Mami over here, have her make me pancakes. You. Fill Sayaka's locker with toothpaste." A grin bares your teeth. "You, take your clothes off--"

You stop at that last thought, before reaching up and ripping the hat from your head.

...You're tired. Yes. That wasn't Kharn's eccentricity bleeding out into the hat and influencing whoever wore it. You're tired, you need some sleep. Maybe you should get some rest.

You stuff the hat back in the box, jam the lid on the top and slide it back under your seat. Your motions making Midori squirm beside you, her arms seemingly curling around yours once more. You let her - she'd deserved that much - and you pull off your glasses and lean back, closing your eyes.

Sleep comes disturbingly easily, but it's...strange. As if it'd been waiting for you all along.

. . .

You open your eyes again, and...this time, you find yourself standing inside a bar. It looks like Charles' bar, but different. For one, the lighting's bad - it's faint, not illuminating so much as making the darkness dirty. It smells faintly of blood and death and stale whisky, and you've the slightly sinking feeling that there are bodies strewn around the floor or lying propped up in corners, with flies buzzing around them. Some of them are wearing Magical Girl uniforms, each one recognizable.

You take a step forward. The sticky crunch of broken glass drowned in blood crinkling a merry tune underfoot. At the noise, the bar's lone occupant turns to look at you. A young woman, probably your age, with tired eyes and brown hair that looks as if it'd been braided tightly before but had only been untied now, as if deciding that she's much too old for them. She's wearing a pink longsleeved sweatshirt with a checkered pattern at the chest - and what appears to be a horrendous amount of blood splashed on her front. Her skirt, a dark maroon, is torn and ripped, but she doesn't seem to mind.

"...Hey." She murmurs, her voice managing to sound much more...ravaged than yours, despite being quite clear and free of any damage sustained by drinking or smoking. "Wasn't expecting you this early. Can I buy you a drink?"

You glance at the bar. There doesn't seem to be anyone staffing it, but the bottle racks are full of Kong bottles. ...As for the girl, she seems to be drinking a tall glass of the stuff. Beside her glass is an ordinary-looking kitchen knife, the surface made dull through years of use in the kitchen. It doesn't even gleam, but it does look sharp.

You take a seat on the bar beside her. Sure, you reply, after getting yourself settled. Anyone can buy you a drink. But they should at least have the courtesy of telling you who the hell they are, and where you are right now at the moment.

"...Wendy." She replies, a small smile on her face. Her accent is...strange. Fluent Japanese, sure, but with the sort of hesitation that Americans had. "When they told me the new Warmaster of the Ninth had a mouth, I wasn't expecting this. Anyway, hold on." She turns towards one corner of the bar, where...a shadowy figure seems to be, where it wasn't a moment before. The girl whispers something to this shadow, and it disappears.

You blink at this, and it's then that you realize that you've been holding a glass full of Kong Whisky all along. ...You don't even remember picking it up from the counter, where its paper coaster is.

"Freaky. I know. Don't think too much about it. I don't." The girl murmurs, before knocking her own glass back, downing it like a champ. She exhales as she places the drained glass down. "You're in a dream. More specifically, you're in my head. Or...or maybe I'm in yours. I'm not clear on that either." She nods at you. "But this isn't the first time we met. I bet you don't even remember who introduced us, do you?"

...No, no you don't.

"...S'okay. Not your fault." She holds out her glass to you, as if asking for a toast - and you oblige her, your full glass and her empty one clinking together. You take a sip from yours, wincing at how it tasted like...like...well, whisky.

"Don't stress out over it. It doesn't matter, much." Wendy swirls the...what appears to be blood in her glass. "What's going to grind your gears later on are the questions that's been bouncing around in your head for the past few weeks. Which are...well, what I've been wondering about too."

Really? What questions are they?

"Oh, that's easy." She seems to smile a bit tiredly at this. "The first one - do you like hurting other people? The second - who's left all of those diary entries in that smartphone of yours?" She places her glass down on the counter, and picks up the knife. "...And finally, the third - why are we having this conversation?"

Silence, between the both of you.

And then--

The Golden Desert Eagle is in your hand even before she started moving. A flurry of movement, your glass ending up smashing on the floor into a thousand bits and pieces - and you feel the stinging kiss of a well-honed blade cutting a millimeter into the skin of your neck, just as you press the barrel mouth of your gun against her forehead.

". . .The Blessed Lady protect you, Kong," Is all you hear from her, right before she slices your throat open with one quick flick of her wrist. Her face disintegrates into a meaty hole a split second after that, the rest of her body flying back and smashing into the flicking jukebox in the corner.

You grasp at your throat, the Desert Eagle slipping from your blood-slickened fingers and thudding heavily onto the floor. You can't breathe no matter how hard you try, and the wound's just too big to try and clasp closed. ...She probably sliced you open near to the bone...

You collapse to the floor, choking all the while, trying to pull breath into your lungs with sickening futility.

The moment that you die is the moment you wake up, again. Back inside the plane, beside Midori.

A quick glance at your smartphone says that it hasn't even been ten minutes since you last checked it.

. . .

God dammit.

>>
>>23876244
Getting Kyoko is not a bad idea. Getting Sayaka is fucking retarded, beyond retarded even.
Do you really want us to have a aide that will question us every turn? That's what we do not need in subordinates. Will give a bad example in front of other girls and make us seem lesser in front of our peers.
>>
>>23876244
Even after we give her girlfriend a sweet hat?

If we can actually sit on our overwhelming sarcasm gene and memetric hatred of her, we can probably get her to come around on most things, honestly.

If all else fails, at least she could be useful in a "she would fuck someone up if they were a threat to Mami" scenario which is fast approaching.
>>
>>23876244
>Sayaka is going to be a problem.
Haha no. We just need to act like a cold superior.
>Miss Miki, I believe that comment was unnecessary.
>Miss Miki, I don't think that's the tone to use when dealing with. your. superior.
>Miss Miki, I believe I gave you an order. Something you value SO MUCH.
>>
>>23876294
a contrasting point of view could prove useful
as long as sayaka follows orders to the letter it doesn't matter if she hates our guts.

I have a feeling she wouldn't appreciate us monopolizing kyouko either, gotta take both or none.

do we even have any other aide candidates?
>>
>>23876294
I would say having an aide that will question us is probably not a bad idea, actually. Also, archive's up.

>>
>>23876343
But we already have Midori as the voice of reason
>>
>>23876331
As long as she doesn't object and question us in public and in front of other girls then I can live with it.
But if she does, then she has to go.

Though I think she's professional enough not to do that....
>>
>>23876354
There will be too much workload for Midorin to handle on her own. She's good but she's no Malal
>>
>>23876354
we need a opinion with no rabu-rabu bias
>>
>>23876379
This Wendy girl seems like a real up-and-comer.

Let's get her.
>>
>>23876294
The only thing worse than an aide who hates your guts is a cabinet full of grovelling yes-men. We may not get along well with Sayaka, but as long as she can keep things professional it will definitely pay to have someone around to play the devil's advocate.
>>
>>23876379
>>23876411

That's what QB is for. Honestly, we're not building a nation here. If Kharn managed to be an awesome Warmaster, I get the feel the job involves a lot of murdering and little to no issues where having an aide that hates our guts would be beneficial.

Sayaka is too much trouble to be worth it.
>>
>>23876379
we need an opinion without hate-hate bias?

Really, 3 aides, isn't that a bit excessive? Usually a warmaster has just one, having 3 of them would just tell other offices and warmasters that our office lacks skilled magical girls.
People should think of ramifications of their choices instead of trying to build a harem everywhere.

Personally, I think just Mami would have been the best aide
>>
>>23876302
>If we can actually sit on our overwhelming sarcasm gene and memetric hatred of her, we can probably get her to come around on most things, honestly.
I agree. IIRC, relations between us were actually starting to warm up a bit before we left for Siberia. I imagine it would be quite feasible to get at least to the level of a civil working relationship, even if we may not ever call each other "friends".
>>
>>23876411
Russia's average govenment would easily prove you otherwise.

Chiaki has /tg/ mind.
Now we only need some not retarded mascots
>>
>>23876424
I honestly think Malal was actually running the Officio while Kharn did all the awesome stuff Mami would be a good choice, but I got the impression she was closer to a secretary for Kyuubey already, and wouldn't be interested.
>>
>>23876433
>I think just Mami would have been the best aide
I agree, however, she seems to have already been taken by QB as his personal secretary.
>>
>>23876473
>>23876498

Hmm, I guess QB wouldn't appreciate us stealing his secretary.... sigh

Gaiz, what about Yuma?
>>
>>23876528
Who?
>>
>>23876528
We know she's apparently mechanically inclined, since Malal suggested we have her fix the servo-skull. But beyond that, and her being a Culexus, we don't know much about her.
>>
>>23876536
The one who will put our skull together.
>>23874262
>>
>>23876528
That...might be a good idea, actually. I hadn't thought about Yuma, but it would be a good position for the Last Culexus anyway.
>>
>>23876556
Oh, okay. Must have missed it.

Have we had encounters with her before?
>>
>>23876571
We're about to. And Kyoko knows her well from the QB contracting and Christmas specials. So for all we know (and are about to find out), she's a good girl.
>>
>>23876528
Didn't Malal explicitly take her as her protege?

it was kinda implied in the christmas special
>>
>>23876370

Midori seems to have a lot of potential, given Malal's wholehearted endorsement and the whole Sibera arc stuff, but that's also a potential weakness for her: she's inexperienced. She doesn't seem to have a lot of experience in dealing with people, and will certainly be thrust far outside of her comfort zone if she formally becomes Warmaster's Aide. I don't doubt that she'll help Chiaki grow immensely both as a Warmaster and as a person, but she doesn't necessarily compensate for many of Chiaki's weaknesses. Not to mention the possible backlash from appointing her as an aide; I'm sure the rank-and-file may be OK with that given their infatuation with the Magical Midori series, but it may further inflame Jyubey and make irk a few other Officios. Not to mention that she's been part of the Officio for barely a week. If she gets appointed, she will need to learn quickly and accomplish much to prove that this was an unconventional but great idea.

Kyouko's probably the best choice, professionally speaking, but Sayaka needs to be placated or dealt with. If Malal's tenure was any indication of how an Aide will work, then Kyouko may as well be Chiaki's shadow. There was talk of creating another position for her that won't effectively demote her from Rank Leader while allowing her more time with Kyouko. Perhaps something along the lines of a Vice Warmaster? If she thinks that she can do a better job than Chiaki, then she'll get a chance to move up to a more influential position within the Officio and prove it.

As for Yuma, we don't know much about her other than that she's apparently good with machines and is a bit of an otaku.
>>
