Freak Quest time!

In this quest, you take the role of a big armed, friendly freak, who is currently adventuring with his two friends, a lizard like freak named Joey, and a merchant named Javak and his steed Ivas.

Previous threads can be found here:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=freak+quest

In the last session you and Joey ventured to the upper floor of the bar. There, after some brief pheromone manipulation on a wall freak, you found out the location of your merchant friend, and ventured trough a large brewing chamber to reach him. In doing so, you inadvertently eavesdropped on a heated argument that Javak and the owner of the bar Char were having. Before you managed to announce your presence, you were ambushed by an older freak, who had been stalking you two all the way from the downstairs, using his chameleon like skin. In a quick and brutal struggle, you managed to slay the freak but also alarmed a guard drone of Char to your presence. You and Joey quickly ran, with the beast in full pursuit. Thankfully, another freak invited you two to hide in a side chamber, and thus allowed you to escape. However, at this point, your wounds overcame you and you blacked out.

>How this works:
Suggest an action and the freak will act. I will try to illustrate it as well as I can. Certain actions will require 1d10 rolls to see if they are successful. There are also slightly more complicated rules for combat:

There are 3 stats, strength, toughness, and agility, in addition to them, there are hitpoints.
All stats are capped at 10, and the baseline hitpoints of a gutterborn freak like the MC are 6.

Attacks are handled like this:
The attacker rolls 2d6.
The first roll is for the attack damage, second for the speed.
Damage: 1d6+str+modifiers (if there are any)- the foe's toughness.
Speed: 1d6+agi

The target of the attack may try to either dodge or block the blow.
Dodge: 1d6+agi vs Attack speed.
Bloc: 1d6+toughness vs attack damage.
Ties go in the favor of the attacker.

These rules are still work in progress, and I appreciate any input on them.

Here is your current inventory:

>3 empty small containers.
>1 full small containers (1 biogel dozes)
>1 medium container with 5 biogel dozes.
>1 strange syringe of unknown purpose.
>Cutting tools.
>Claw arm.
>Improved walking eye bladder.
>1 ration package.
>Bone armor.

You are also equipped with a bone sword.
Joey has the bone knife.

Introducing abilities and the energy bar. The Energy bar represents the amount of biogel, regenerative substances and bio energy the body of the freak has. Using abilities drains this bar. The bar also has another function, depending on how full it is. When the bar has green in it, reaching 0 hp halves the stats of the freak, and all additional damage is taken to the energy bar, but doubled. When the bar is yellow, 0 hp causes the freak to be incapacitated, and unable of combat. If the bar is red, 0 hp results in either extremely severe injury or death, depending on the situation.

Suddenly, the pulsating stops, and you find yourself standing in an eerily silent tunnel, bathing in red light.

You also ask about Javak.
"He was here few hours ago, but he and his friend left. He said that he would come check on us when the time to go comess."

You then ask about the "Nice Lady", what she did to you, and about the syringe.

"She was real nice! She said that she would save your life! The scary ghost that attacked poisoned you, so she took away the poison and fixed you up! I was so wor...I helped her! She used her funny head arms to tie your wounds and she put all kinds of fixing things on you, that made your wounds heal!
And all she wanted was the stupid thing we found that didn't even do anything. She was so exited when she saw it! She must have thought that it was pretty! I allowed her to take it because she was so nice to heal you."
>>
>>23860459
Yup. We have a Vatmother on our hands. I'd suggest we buddy up to this vatmother. She could provide the protection we need, still being gutterspawn. They could also give us goals. Lets talk to Javak about this, see if he can give us any advice on what to do.

You ask Joey what's wrong.
She glares at you angrily, and says:
"You! You almost got killed! You are reckless! The creepy indivisible bad guy had poison! The Nice Lady said that it would have killed you if she did't give you antidote! I could have stung the bad guy with my stinger and he would have died! You fight without planss and almost died! What would I do then!? I can't follow you if you are dead!"
>>
>>23861002

You are still inside the bar.
The last time you saw the red orb, it was setting, so depending on how long you were passed out, it might be quite late.

Tell joey we love her too. Then, fade to black as we make the beast with two backs
>>
>>23861023

>If my memory ain't playing mind tricks on me...we did mention (once) for Joey to sting him...

Well, Look down for a bit, head down too "...I'm sorry... He just kept on saying you were his..."
>>
>>23861023
"Look, Kid... I'm sorry I guess. I will not be so reckless in the future. But I HAD a plan, it just didn't include big or creepy things jumping me one after the other. Don't!....just don't worry so much."

yeah, what's up with that, did you ever know that guy or who Mr. creepy mouth worked for?

Welp, girl's got a point.

"You're right; I should've paid more attention when you said your ears were tingling. Probably could have dealt with that arsehole... you know, before he jumped us. And probably should've just let you sting him; my plan wasn't all that smart. Satisfying, but not smart."

"...But the stuff he was saying, about him taking you? You now "being his"? That made me mad. So, so, MAD."

You apologize her, but say that things didn't exactly go as planned in there, and that you were only trying to protect her from the creepy stalker.
"...you can't protect me if you are dead.."

Your words seem to have calmed her down.
"...I am sure that the Nice Lady won't mind if we eat some of her jello.." She whispers and smiles.

Well might as well gorge ourselves

"Are You sure" If she really thinks that smile back and take a bit.

Otherwise "Then lets leave it for now"... joey wont mind a pat in the head right? OH, and don't forget smile!

apply jello to joey via mutual feeding. maximum cuteness.

For other players. I'm passing out, but if we encounter this vatmother, get the scoop on the following information

1. what was in the needle.
2. What we overheard in the last session about gutterspawn being turned into biogel or something.
3. Can she make that armor we have fit, because that would be great.
4. What does she know about javek and his people.
5. "thanks."

Joey says that the nice lady went trough the door behind the bed. "The lady said that she will go to talk with some of her friends."

(Damn, I am getting pretty tired. Would you guys hold it against me if I ended the session around here. The MC and Joey just sitting and eating jello seems like a perfect place to end and to start a session. It might take many hours before we reach a similar spot. I am sorry if the dream section stuff was lame or otherwise un pleasing.)

That was all an "Oh god FML" moment. But i liked it

Don't worry FQ, you draw stuff for this quest and thats A LOT, and it is a good spot to stop too.

Good to know.
Feel free to make your plans for the next session, like the suggestions posted here:

Comments, criticism and all other kinds of input are appreciated, and this time, I may stick around to chat for a while. Usually I stop when it is around 4 am here, and I am dead tired, but now I can still stay up for a while to chat.

I had to learn how to make giffs for this session.

Seeing how the thread is still around, I guess that it can be used as a Gigerworld general thread.

potential suggestions include

A journal page:
full of notes that players have suggested regarding quests and objectives, as well as in game discoveries

Example

Mysterious syringe
-what is it?
-Find someone to identify it.
-It was taken, what does it do?

Person who healed me
-who is she?
-what faction
-What does she know about javek

Javek
-What was he talking about with the gutterspawn and biogel?

and then even non quest items like

-maybe buy that regenerating drink
-get armor sized to me
-find out what happened to corpse of invisible freak, can we get that augmentation?
-maybe buy slime aug for joey.

this gives players just joining guidance, as well as those from the past a little help remembering what is going on. It would not be a mandated thing, more a collection of information guiding towards suggestions.
>>
>>23871622

That's a very good suggestion, and I will most likely implement it in some form.
It would help people keep track of the things they have planned on doing and so on.

This quest is turning out to be much more "gamey" than spider quest was.
>>
>>23871738
hell you made an entire system for this quest
>>
>>23872511

Well, it is pretty bare bones, but it (hopefully) will work well for this quest.
Though, one might be able to run a simplistic combat game with numerous freaks in the party, using this system.
>>
>>23870900
As someone who was only around for the first thread and hasn't been up to date since, is Gigerworld an established setting, or one that exists just for this quest?
>>
>>23872808

Gigerworld is a setting that /tg/ came up with about a year ago. I took part in creating the setting, which is why I wanted to run this quest.
Here is a link to the archived threads:

>>
>>23872772
on the subject of combat, how does the gigerverse handle projectile weapons/ attacks. Is it kept out of the game for the most part?

Acid spraying organ, or some sort of combustible flame?

Is flame a nonpoint due to the setting not having much that relilably burns with it all being fleshy and alive and flame doesnt seem to be used within the city.

Electrical eel type organs?
>>
>>23873217

Well, when the setting was created, there was talk about projectile weapons as being part of it.
Acid spitting organs are good example, along with some sort of spine launchers and such things.
However, I have no solid idea on what sort of rules they would need to work in the quest. The projectile augs are quite advanced, so I haven't yet introduced them, and before I do, I need to figure out their rules. Any ideas on this subject are welcomed.

You are right on the fact that there isn't that much flammable stuff in the city. The city is very humid place, and things don't tend to be very dry. I guess that fat could be used to burn things, though that practice isn't very widely spread.

Electric eel like organs are definitely in the setting, though they are probably quite advanced augs, and thus, not very cheap or easy to find.
>>
>>23873290
you seem to have a theme of simplicity, so you could have degrees of difficultity to your rolls represented by +1 increases to the challenge to hit modifier based on GM determined distance

Point blank- unless the aug is such that it is unwiedly at close range, you treat it like melee. opponent has an extremely difficult dodge chance.

Close- you do not have to roll to hit, but your opponent does have a challenging roll to dodge.

Moderate- roll to hit, modifier against you to hit, bonus to oppoents dodge
Far- as above but +1, -1
Extreme- as above +1, -1

catching someone "looking" away or unaware negates their dodge chance, depending on projectile speed as determined by GM, and freak's sensory/ reaction abilities.

these are just examples to help out. Things that spray obviously will hit in a wave and be much harder if not impossible to dodge at their optimal range.

lets take a low tier weapon and work with it, Sub sonic spine launcher
compare to an "ok" bow and arrow in terms of speed, so you need a grasp of FPS or feet per second. a paintball travels usually around 200-280 fps when the gun is adjusted for most fields.

A crossbow will fire at around 270-300fps, there are extreme models that fire at much faster then that, but the mentioned range is suitable for hunting and killing.

Compare to the exiting velocity of an m16 @ 3,110FPS, or 948 m/s (meters per second)

also fps can be called ft/s
>>
>>23873448

continuing on, lets take a shitty aug that some gutter spawn found or was born with.

spike launcher- single.

Fires a single spike @ low speed, (200fps the rough FPS of an arrow from a longbow primitive bow. im being a little generous with that)

due to its low speed, it has low range, and can only hit at pointblank-moderate. at moderate it would have a very hard time hitting accurately, so the difficulty would be based off of it's own stats for ranging calculations.

the slow speed allows it to be silent, or perhaps since this one is shit there is a tell tale cough associated with it, or sneeze noise.

next, the slow speed allows a freak at moderate range to see the other freak, and have a much easier time dodging it, but getting hit would still cause injury.
>>
>>23873484
If the characters come into the position to craft one thing that could be interesting is upgrading augmentations with more augs instead of the character, or even other things.

I know the sword is not attached to the MC so lets start there. If the sword is bone, and living with a marrow core, perhaps installing a poison gland would be possible.

As for the MC's armor, is that a permanent attachment, or no?
>>
>>23873448
>>23873484
>>23873499

Hmm, I like these ideas.
Basically, shooting would go like this:
Roll to hit (1d6+weapon's accuracy stat + the range modifier)- opponent's roll to dodge.

I think that the ranged weapons will drain the energy bar, seeing how they are quite advanced augs whose functions require loads of energy.

As for crafting, stuff like that is definitely possible in the setting, though it may require either acquiring special skills or visiting certain people with those skills.
>>
>>23873499

I forgot to address your question about the mc's armor.
It is "permanent" in the way that anything else attached to your body is permanent. Which in this setting means that it is not.
The armor plates can be removed almost as easily as they can be attached. In general, removing augs costs some biogel, but not as much as adding them (The biogel is used to heal the wounds that are left by removing the augs.) How easy the aug is to remove depends on the aug itself of course.
Simple bone plates like the one mc has are easy to remove, as they are just attached to the body with strong bonds of sinew and flesh, but there are augs that bond with the freak using them far more deeply and in some cases, removing them is extremely hard.
Some augs may not even be able to be removed. There are things that can alter the body of the freak deeply and permanently. Things like mutagenic viral injections for example.

I am wondering if I should develop some basic skills to help to deal with things like crafting augments and so on. (If I am not careful, I might accidentally develop a full rpg system here.)

Anyways, do you guys have any more ideas?
>>
>>23874015
rolling for levels of difficulty regarding crafting augs, along with modifiers based on what sort of tools you have.

A really rough mod to an aug might be "killed this freak with a retractable blade arm, but not hand, however this other freak has a nice claw hand." the poor mans way of doing it would be to rip out the retractable blade and tissue, then slash open the arm, and put in the bloody mess then dump biogel on it until it takes. This will work, but will result in a lower grade/ messy aug that was cost ineffective, might be ugly/ scarred/ feels weird to use/ stiff/ lacks a range of motion.

So "dump biogel on whatever you have mangled until it works"

Next up you have tools. Tool kits allow you to actually do something right and come in tiers, or perhaps upgrades to existing kits.
A dagger or even sword could count as a simple tool with zero modifier to salvaging augs
A flaying knife +1
Basic surgery kit +2
Complex surgery kit +3

so on.

You also need knowledge, everyone can cut something off a freak, but it takes a little know how to know which gland or organ is good to grab, unless you take them all and hope for the best. Though this could be easy enough to learn.

So implementing skills in addition to augs and traits.

Crafting
a level of knowledge + surgical "equipment"+ roll vs difficulty = quality/ biogel needed

It would be near impossible to fail an effort if you have at least some knowledge, but the result could be very, very poor. you could then attempt during the crafting phase to raise the level of quality with a considerable amount of biogel. all depends on what it would be worth to the player.

new mechanic: Biogel storage: either by buying or crafting many freaks who are established carry a canteen/ canister/ flask/ satchel of some sort that contains a measure of biogel. (this could be displayed on the inventory screen next to what would eventually be currency, or this could be currency, just in a smaller amount such as 1 dose
>>
>>23874160
vs .1 dose. measured amounts. The previously mentioned chips that the merchant used in the bar could be dried biogel or infused blood. anything really. just ideas.

A freaks ability to store biogel externally could be reflected in the quality/ size of their container.

loosing it could be detrimental, or costly and opens up further consequence to loosing a fight, seeing someone walk away with all your hard work as you pass out.
>>
>>23874160
>>23874171

I'll think on these ideas, as they are pretty great.
I don't want to make the stuff too complex tough.
Thus far, the biogel has been used as simple currency. One doze of biogel is pretty small amount of it actually. Probably around one deciliter of it. The medium container houses about a half a liter of biogel.
The reason why biogel is an universal currency in the city is because everyone needs is and can utilize it in some way. I have a hard time coming up with another type of currency, as there economy in the city is heavily based on simple bartering, and servitude.
