You are Ssen, a Lamia raised by a human Paladin who adopted you after killing the ones who birthed you. You are grown now, and Father has passed on. You have decided to see the world, and possibly become a Paladin like your Father.

You are accompanied by your best friend from childhood, the insect druid Tricia; Mage, a magic user who ran away from his family of cannibal raiders known as the Ghouls (Yes, his name is Mage. It was his idea); Persephone, a 22-year old thief/ex-guerllia fighter (She goes by Peri), and Mary, a 13-year old prodigy scholar/now sniper, who has her mind and soul trapped within Peri's body; and Lea, a deeply religious musician/martial artist, trained by her father, a famous trainer for arena fighters, she's covered from her mouth down in bandages to hide the horrific state her body has become thanks to the 'cures' that saved her from cancer.

Your journey continues...

okay, time for HARD DECISIONS: the executioning.

Shit, I've gotta decide between this and watching Princess Bride.
>>

princess bride will always be there.
You need to BE HERE to help us with this critical executioning. The plot could get fucked in so many ways if we fuck it up.

It took some doing, but you were able to rescue your friends from the seductive grip of Citadel's mind control.

You had plans to escape the city the next day, possibly with Isen the Audacious (A.k.a. Prince Itzak Newgate) right after your ceremony inducting you as a Paladin.

That plan fell apart when you awoke to find that Citadel was throwing a giant celebration, the occasion being the public execution of the so-called 'conspirators' behind the assassination plot against Isen.

The people who are about to die are the Fey Court thief-for-hire Robin Goodfellow, the tailor Gregory Garish, the tinker/inventor Barney Pits, and the bookseller/historian Ambrose Trapp. You know that they're innocent. This is just Citadel's way of finally eliminating some of the few people within its walls that have resisted having their wills broken.

Time is running out, and soon they will be lashed to stakes and beaten with an iron bar until dead. Citadel, and all its people, are watching, it might take a miracle to save these poor men.

Need to find discrepancies between Bobbi's story and the story of the peps being executed. I'm about to head out, so I'm just putting this out there.

Rolled 24

Man, we're really gonna stick it to this stupid city once we get our party back in order. and begin re expanding Caligo Clairus.
>>
>>23830404
This is what you have discovered so far:

1) King Newgate wants to end this whole affair and feel safe again, he wants someone to blame and their blood. Today.

2) Paladin Odette is on the ropes, her reputation as a Paladin is hanging by a thread due to you not dying and saving Isen's life while she just stood there. The execution HAS to go perfectly, or she's screwed. The stress has gotten to her.

3) Uncle Julian has said that Odette submitted 'classified evidence' to the Conclave that he didn't see. Technically it's a legal move, but he's not happy. If there's a way he can step in, he will.

4) Her Illuminated Self, leader of the Cathedral of Light, isn't happy with this barbaric practice being brought back to Citadel. She's voiced her displeasure, but bloodlust is overriding piety right now.

5) There's an old legend/miracle on the books known as the Mercy of the First Leaf. If an execution fails three times, then the condemned get a second trial/acquitted/exiled.

6) Gregory's sister just began to manifest mage abilities. She's ran off and she took a pistol that Barney had in his pile of inventions. Gregory hired Robin to find her, and the other two were helping.

You have 4 units of time left before the executions begin.
>>
Well shit, missed most of last thread. Was going to suggest kidnapping his royal audaciousness, getting made a paladin then fleeing to the phoenix kingdom.
Then I read about the dream and everything else happening.

Also, thread always running when away. GOD DAMMIT.
>>
>>23830497
Is it 3 miracles per prisoner or 3 for all together?
>>
right, this was my plan from last thread:

Ssen and Lea shall go to the prisoners, using Ssens clout and maybe permission from Isen to get the prisoners confession using the info we overheard earlier then give that and any proof we can dig up using their story.

Tricia and Mage will search for Gregory's sister uysing bugs and magic. They are to try to calm her down.

Tara and Mari\Peri shall go heckle Odette to get her to lose her cool.
>>
>>23830497
Gregory's sister needs to be our next priority. If we fail to remove her as a threat (peacefully) then she can screw up any 'miracles' that we plan to interrupt the execution. We may even be able to get her to help us save her brother and the others.
>>
>>23830497
So our plan from last time includes:

1) Termite to weaken the platform, causing it to collapse. - Miracle 1

2) Grease the bars to slip out of the executor's hands - Miracle 2 (Uhmm... I am not sure if this will work)

3) Find little sis before she kills Isen

4) Make Odette look bad (why are we doing this again?)

5) Get nightmare as it may be part of the three baka's plans
>>
>>23830572
give proof to Julian

I think we'll roll on the Heckle Odette gamble and use the auto-success on the other two.
>>
>>23830607
Then why are we sending two to do these tasks? Auto-win will work just as well with one person.
>>
>>23830619
you need two people to get an auto success in two units of time.
>>
>>23830595
>>23830572
Odette is near to crumbling. People want to push her to advance our agenda.

I believe it is immoral, but I am here to clarify.
>>
>>23830654
I think she will lose her position anyways if the execution fails.
>>
>>23830632
Ahhh Ok.
>>
>>23830654
Let us seriously consider whether we want to do this. This is... somewhat dickish.

Remember, enemies of yesteryears are allies of tomorrow.
>>
>>23830668
which will be her hoisted entirely by her lack of judicial ethics. As opposed to driven into cracking in a public manner.

Like I said though, I am clarifying here. I believe I was the one who first pointed out the possibility last thread, even if I disagreed with it.
>>
So, I'm going to assume everyone in agreement with the Confession plan and the Bug/Magic search plan. But I still am hearing dissent in what Tara and Peri/Mari are doing, bother Odette, or get the Nightmare?

Here's some more info. Remember it's a ways away from the stables to the market. You can send one person to get the Nightmare, no check needed, but they wont get back with it until just before executions start.
>>
>>23830719
how about this, they talk to her, and tell her they know she fabricated evidence/lied to the Conclave to get the outcasts arrested, and the elf is not the assassin.

i really think the Nightmare is a red herring, the only mention is that the elf keeps trying to steal it.
>>
I want to nail Odette to show that she's not an impartial paladin. We weaken the prosecution, we weaken the case against the accused.

Also, if Julien tags along with Tara and Mari/peri and hears Odette's rant, then would that be lucky that we have a trustworthy witness.
>>
>>23830763
yeah, okay. They can tell her we know. It's only fair.
>>
>>23830767
I don't think the crowd cares at this point. Even if the tribunal rules that they are innocent, the crowd wants blood.

I say for Nightmare. If nothing else, it can help us to escape.
>>
>>23830786
yeah, if we're escaping, we need the nightmare and possibly the cart even nearby.
>>
SO. ARE WE ROLLING IT OUT FOR TWO TIME UNITS? We were mulling over doing that last night. Then we use our last two time units for guarunteed success.
>>
>>23830819
We should prioritize our escape over ruining the bitchy paladin's life.
>>
>>23830767
Okay, so...is Tara going to get the nightmare and Mari/Peri tries to heckle, or visa versa? Or are they both going for Odette? Because sending both to get the Nightmare and Wagon aren't going to change how long it'll take.
>>
>>23830572
>>23830595
I don't think we need to go to much trouble about Odette; after all:
>>23830497
> 2) Paladin Odette is on the ropes, her reputation as a Paladin is hanging by a thread due to you not dying and saving Isen's life while she just stood there. The execution HAS to go perfectly, or she's screwed. The stress has gotten to her.

So, if we save the day, she's screwed already. We can talk to her if we need to get information from her, though.

Also, some other possible execution failures:

Red-hot iron bar, too hot to hold.

Sting the executioner with something that weakens muscles to the point of collapse, though not necessarily life-threatening (though, hey, he's an executioner).

I agree with the first two parts of redaeth's plan: Ssen/Lea talk to the prisoners, and Tricia/Mage find Gregory's sister. However, I don't think we should waste time on Odette this round; can we get Julian on our side instead?
>>
>>23830923
If we send just one person to do something, and take the two time units for automatic success, will they still succeed?
>>
Why are we not planning for the three miracles? We clearly need them. And we got none. We can only hope to pray for one.
>>
>>23830953
In the case of they're the only person there because the other is getting the NIghtmare, then yes it's an auto success. But no, you can't split up Mage/Tricia in their search for auto-success.
>>
>>23830923
>>23830936

Tara get the Nightmare and wagon, Peri/Mari to tell Julian that the outcasts employed the elf to find the missing sister.
>>
>>23830936
Julian is on our side. The prisoners wouldn't talk about what they hired the elf for, which is KEY to this case.

Send the last two members to go talk to julian and tell him we overheard what they were hiring the bandit for, recovering an item that was taken from him. We can describe it, or even name it if we know it's a pistol.

Sound good?
>>
>Remember it's a ways away from the stables to the market. You can send one person to get the Nightmare, no check needed, but they wont get back with it until just before executions start.

Guys, Lea is the only one the Nightmare wont give any trouble. If it decides to be uncooperative with one of the others it could take a fair bit longer to get back.
>>
>>23830497
>3) Uncle Julian has said that Odette submitted 'classified evidence' to the Conclave that he didn't see. Technically it's a legal move, but he's not happy. If there's a way he can step in, he will.

Very likely the information about the pistol, claimed part of the conspiracy against Citadel.

>4) Her Illuminated Self, leader of the Cathedral of Light, isn't happy with this barbaric practice being brought back to Citadel. She's voiced her displeasure, but bloodlust is overriding piety right now.

Hmmm, is she around? Could we talk to *her*, or are we better off talking to Julian? Or can we get the two together and talk to them both at the same time (ideal)?
>>
>>23830977
>>23830985
yeah, we need to tell julian about the story with the sister. Not the gun, we don't quite know that yet IC.
>>
>>23831008
we know its something dangerous, and it was taken, thats enough.
>>
>>23830987
>Guys, Lea is the only one the Nightmare wont give any trouble. If it decides to be uncooperative with one of the others it could take a fair bit longer to get back.

Don't worry about that. You dedicate one person to getting the horse, it'll arrive.

>>23830998
>Hmmm, is she around? Could we talk to *her*, or are we better off talking to Julian? Or can we get the two together and talk to them both at the same time (ideal)?

Yes, HIS is here, and you can try for an audience, to get the two together would take some doing, even before you gave your argument.
>>
>>23830977
This, though I'm still unclear why we need the Nightmare and wagon. That whole line of thinking started because we guessed that the thing the prisoners or others were looking for might be the Nightmare, which turned out to be false, and then we kept it going on the theory that we might want an escape plan. If things go right we don't need an escape plan, and if things go wrong they'll go wrong enough that running out of town won't help.
>>
>>23831045
> Yes, HIS is here, and you can try for an audience, to get the two together would take some doing, even before you gave your argument.

Getting Her Illuminated Self to come to where Julian is seems non-trivial, but Julian trusts us; any reason it would be hard to get him to follow us over to where HIS is?
>>
Pray tell, anons, what is our plan for the prisoners? Even if we give the evidence to Julian, the crowd will want to kill them all.

No, we need the miracles.
>>
Clarification: we're sending Tricia and Mage to find *and help/stop* Gregory's sister, not just to find her. Wouldn't want to end up with 2 time units left and all we've done is *find* the sister.
>>
>>23831062
>any reason it would be hard to get him to follow us over to where HIS is?

Her Blue Occuli bodyguard. Same reason it took time to talk to Isen.
>>
>>23831095
>Clarification: we're sending Tricia and Mage to find *and help/stop* Gregory's sister, not just to find her. Wouldn't want to end up with 2 time units left and all we've done is *find* the sister.

Ah, no. You don't get Find AND Stop. You JUST get Find.
>>
>>23831075
We absolutely need the miracles to win over the crowd. However, we can win over Julian and Her Illuminated Self, and that'll make things much smoother when we need to stand up and cry miracle.
>>
>>23831099
So, we can definitely take 2 and get through to her; can we take 2 and get Julian to her, or does that expect too much of an auto-success?

>>23831112
Oh joy. OK, find then. Let's hope we can pull off "stop" in the last two time units.
>>
>>23831075
I really think the order should be this.
Executioner weakening
Iron Bar heating
and all the while the termites work on the platform.
The confusion from the first two would give the mites enough time to do it while being subtle.
>>
>>23831131
Agreed. Start the executioner weakening right *now*, if Tricia can kick that off in parallel with going to find the sister. Get Mage thinking about how to toast the bar. And ask Tricia if there are termites around, but don't start them until next action.
>>
>>23831129
>So, we can definitely take 2 and get through to her; can we take 2 and get Julian to her, or does that expect too much of an auto-success?

Take 2 and you'll secure an audience with both of them. Then next turn you'll be able to make your case.
>>
>>23831162
If we take 2, can we get an audience with HIS alone, and still have time to actually talk?

And, would that take two people or one to do?
>>
>>23831144
>Agreed. Start the executioner weakening right *now*, if Tricia can kick that off in parallel with going to find the sister. Get Mage thinking about how to toast the bar. And ask Tricia if there are termites around, but don't start them until next action.

You've already dedicated her to finding Sophie. If you want to drop it down to just one turn with both of them looking, you'll have to roll, but you'll get a bonus.
>>
>>23831181
>If we take 2, can we get an audience with HIS alone, and still have time to actually talk?
>And, would that take two people or one to do?
Yes.
Two people, unless you're doing the Nightmare clause.
>>
>>23831162
Wait. So we are betting whether Mage can roll high enough on his love roll to convince Sophia?

This is bad. Perhaps we should just roll to find her and use the 2 to convince her.
>>
>>23831189
I don't think we want to chance failing to find Sophie; we need this 2 to find her and next 2 to stop her. Of course, if Tricia takes part in both the finding and stopping, that'll cause problems for her ability to help with buggy miracles. Likewise Mage and hot iron bar miracles.

Things we need to do over the next 4 time units (2 guaranteed success actions):

Find Sophia (ideally needs Tricia and Mage)
Help/stop/whatever Sophia (takes whoever went after her, and they probably can't multitask much if at all).
Three miracles (right now we have 2 possibilities involving Tricia and bugs, and 1-2 involving Mage)
Possibly convince Julian and/or HIS to help us or at least go along with whatever we pull off.
And doing *that* may require talking to the prisoners.
Optional: Nightmare.
Optional: Get information from Odette.

Anything I missed?

Now, how can we get the critical paths on all of these done within 2 guaranteed successes?
>>
>>23831268
If we are going to use 2, why not stick Mage and a random party member on it, freeing up Tracia for miracle work?
>>
>>23831207
>This is Bad
We almost need a diagram to keep track of who needs to go where for this operation. It may not be Ocean's Eleven but we should make sure to get this right.
>>
/tg/. Totally incapable of making a work schedule.
>>
OK, Mage's hot iron bar theoretically doesn't require any actions during the 4 remaining time units; he just needs to heat the bar at execution time. So he and anyone can take 2+2 to find and talk to Sophia. Tricia and anyone could prep her two buggy miracles in the next 4 time units, taking two for each. And that leaves two other people to either prep backup miracles or talk to Julian/HIS.

I assume, here, that we can't have one party member find Sophia and the other one stop her.

Mage and Anyone: Take 2 to find Sophia, take 2 to stop/help Sophia.

Does Tricia need a partner to guarantee success at prepping two miracles in the next 4 actions? If not, let her do that alone?

Then we can have one preparing backup miracles and two talking to HIS/Julian.
>>
>>23831321
A step up from being totally unable to decide on what dress to wear.
>>
>>23831321
Oh, you guys are amazingly efficient compared to my old group when I put them in a similar scenario. They created their own threats, and there was a near table flip.

It didn't help that I was playing a cd with a clock tick on it in the background.

Will the collapse of the execution area stall us for more time? Because the most overt will be the hot iron bar. It might be cutting it close but...
>>
>>23831458
>Will the collapse of the execution area stall us for more time?
Yes, but there's a difference between a stage collapsing, and a stage collapsing when an executioner steps upon it to kill an innocent man.
>>
>>23831458
Good point. A weakened executioner and a collapsed stage could happen naturally, and people will overlook them at first. A red-hot iron bar is clear intervention. Let's do that one last, and then we jump straight into our big crowd-control speech.
>>
>>23831488
I assumed we were going to "perforate" the stage, so that it looks normal but collapses the moment someone steps on it.

>>
Is it bad I am seriously considering spending time praying for a miracle?
>>
>>23831506
Ah, well...that would stall things, yes. I thought you mean that at Turn 2 the eniter stage just collapses.

It'll buy you a little more time, but the execution will still be happening as soon as whomever falls into the hole pulls themselves out.
>>
>>23831488
Aye, but what I'm thinking is in the confusion mage can target the bar. Since it has to be done last he can't really prep it, this SHOULD give him enough time to take care of the girl
>>
>>23831547
Okay, so...in the hopes to keep this moving, this is what I'm seeing so far.

Ssen and Lea get an actual confession from the prisoners.

Mage and Peri/Mari find Sophie

Tricia and Tara sabotage the stage.

You're taking the double turn to make sure that everything goes through.

Is this right?
>>
>>23831546
We should for our last miracle.
>>
>>23831575
I like it.
>>
>>23831575
Yes on all counts. Tricia and Tara need to make sure that it won't collapse under the prisoners, just under the executioner. Think carefully about who will be where on the stage.
>>
>>23831581
The Light helps those that help themselves; let's pray, but let's also plan at least three miracles that require no genuine divine intervention (other than perhaps holding off Citadel's malicious intervention).
>>
>>23831639
That is my plan as well. It is our forth miracle.
>>
>>23831575
Yes. we need to SECURE a REAL confession from the prisoners, so we can get julian in on this shit. My god I hope we have enough time. We also need to find the runaway sister to convince her to corroborate.

The miracles, I hope, work.
>>
>>23831795
My only concern is Echo's cryptical warning that using up time will be bad for us. I feel like something is going to blow up in our face soon. However, what needs to be done needs to be done.

Let us just get on with the story.
>>
>>23831820
well goddamnit this is the first time anyone asked me to do THREE miracles in under TWO hours.

>>
>>23831620
"Now, you know the executioner will, umm, be standing there, right?" Tara points.

"Yes, I know." Tricia whispers, "He'll also be carrying a big iron bar. A very heavy iron bar. Just make sure no one's looking at us."

"Everyone's watching the play, it's the one where the two girls who are bakers are up lat-"

"I've seen it." Tricia says as she blushes. "Come on little guys, hurry up."

* * *
"I don't see her, Mage!"

"You're supposed to be our deadshot, Mari!"

"Well, I can't see a target that isn't there!"

"Look, I can sense the mana pulses off of her, and I'm telling you, she's over there!"

"She's not!"

"Well, she's going all crazy with magic, maybe she's doing an illusion, or changed into an animal, or flew up in the air, I don't know!"

At the 'flew up into the air' bit, Mari looks up. "There!" She points at the roof of a bakery that overlooks the square.

Sophia is sitting against the chimney, the pistol in one hand, and both arms wrapped around her ears, sparks of blue light are coming off of her. She's rocking back and forth, shaking her head and muttering 'stop it, stop it, stop it' over and over again.

"Good, now how do we get to her?" Mage asks.

"That flying idea still an option?"

(More coming)
>>
>>23831855
It means you are not researching theology enough!
>>
>>23831861
"Everything was fine, until a few weeks ago." Gregory says. "She's always had headaches, and those little zaps happen all the time to tailors. I never though those were mage-signs." He sighs. "That's supposed to show up when you're a baby!"

"She started having Nightmares, poor girl." Barney said. "Came to ask me for earmuffs and other noise blockers. Claimed that 'He wasn't protective anymore, now that she was old enough that He wanted her too..." barney cleared his throat. "So, after Gregory and I had a 'discussion' and I found out she wasn't talking about him,"

"Which took two torn jackets and a black eye."

"What was I supposed to think?!" Barney said. "We went to see Ambrose if he could help, when we got him back to Gregory's, little Sophie had run off."

"I was the one who thought of hiring Robin." Ambrose sighed. "I had seen him in Widdy's store, buying things a while ago. I asked him why an elf went to the worst fruit seller in town..."

"Widdy's things are fine. The smell's not his fault at all." Gregory says.

"Anyway, I asked him and he laughed and said he prefered a place that smelled as bad as he thought Citadel was. We became friends."

"I told him I was a hunter and a tracker." He sighed. "I was nursing my wounds at a tavern when Barn runs in looking for me. He takes me back and Ambrose tells me what's happening. Greg's coin is good, and I'm not gonna let a kid be in a lurch, so I put your job on hold and went to look for the kid."

"We were comparing notes on our search, when the door bangs open, that crazy lady storms into my shop," Barney says. "Grabs two of my models, and has us arrested! They weren't even important things, much less dangerous. A water pump and my card maker!"
>>
>>23831861

Echo, you are a master of "No battle plan survives contact with the enemy".

If we don't find Sophie soon, she'll kill the king (or if the citadel assumes control, which is probably unlikely, Isen). Everything goes to shit. Basically, we have less time then we think.
>>
>>23831910
If a kid is under age then she's helpless and defenseless and needs to be protected...and then when she comes of age...well Citadel's priorities shift on what a girl's role is.

Okay, so Mage and Peri/Mari do their little flying trick to get to Sophie and try to talk her down.

Ssen and Lea confront both Julian and Odette about her "evidence."

Tricia and Tara prep getting the executioner stung and weakened.
>>
>>23832114
We need a wordsmith to make a great argument to calm Sophie down.
>>
>>23832114
I agree with this. But we need details on how we can do both Odette and Sophia scene.
>>
>>23832057
OK, we have one miracle: a collapsing stage. We need at least two more, preferably three or four more. Mage can pull off another miracle at execution time, with a red hot iron bar, or perhaps one that floats away into the sky, or becomes slippery, etc; we don't need to spend time on that right now, except that Mage needs to start thinking about which possibilities have the best shot at success. Tricia, with Tara as backup, needs to start on the third right now: weakening the executioner. Ssen and Lea should go to either Julian or Her Illuminated Self with everything we know about this situation (we only have time for one, and I don't know which it should be; Julian is more likely to believe us but not quite as powerful to help once he does). Mage and Mari/Peri need to get up to Sophie *and* stop whatever out-of-control magic is happening, perhaps with magic, or perhaps with the magic of romance; we need a reliable way for them to get up there, though. Any obvious way Sophie got up there?
>>
>>23832125
>>23832134
well, get to writing suggestions. I'm currently deleting things at a rapid rate in my attempts. Fuck. Shit. It's all garbage.
>>
>>23832148
I like it. And finally, we will be praying to the Light and hopefully it will give us a fourth miracle.
>>
Okay. What do we have on the sister? Someone mentioned romance? Could you explain that to me? Who, why, when, what for...
>>
>>23832125
Words will help, but remember that His Light does a really good job of keeping Citadel at bay as well, and Citadel is causing much of the problem with Sophie right now. As for words, I think we need to get to her, see how she reacts to us showing up and starting a conversation, and then tailor our response accordingly.
>>
>>23832057
Do we even have control over our allies' actions now? I mean the ones who aren't near us. We're Ssen and no one else. We can only control our team by speaking to them to give orders. All we can do is deal with Odette and Julian.
>>
>>23832183

Not necessarily romance, but Mage had to deal with the exact same magic shit she's dealing with right now.

Plus, he can tell her that WE know they're innocent and we're trying to save them right now, but the pistol is not the answer.

"Believe in Ssen."
>>
>>23832198
Ssen is not the only source of ideas, and the rest of the party is capable of thinking for themselves too. Tricia and Tara know they need miracles and presumably talked about what to do before going off (we certainly laid out a plan beforehand). Mage and Mari/Peri know they need to stop Sophie.

Oh, idea: Mari/Peri also has a good way to talk to Sophie: she's both a young girl and an adult woman simultaneously.
>>
>>23832198
>Do we even have control over our allies' actions now?

Assume you regrouped and then split up again
>>
>>23832125
Mage needs to be there, as does Ssen. Ssen to bless her with the light's protection, Mage to get her back in gear. We don't have time for an autosuccess here.

As for words: Explain to the king that the Dramatae have basically gone nuts and are corrupting the Citadel. Purple Sands, Stone Hall, his own son. They're trying to force a Lightbringer to appear by creating false enemies and disasters. It's the Dramatae who caused this, it's THEY who need to die.
>>
With that confession I think Lea and Peri can go present the evidence to Julian . That should get him working on getting this farce of a trial done with.

Ssen and Mage should deal with Sophia. Ssen to help ward off Citadels influence and Mage for trust,

The rest, I think can continue to brainstorm miracles. Maybe Tara will have an insight we haven't thought of
>>
>>23832245
Got it
>>23832244
Mage should work the sympathy angle, starting with, "I know you're not crazy, and I know you're scared, but I've been there, etc."
>>
>>23832237
Yeah, intentional action with the pistol should be easy to stop: "We know they're innocent; they were just looking for you, and got mistaken for doing something against Citadel. We're going to save them, but if you do anything with that pistol then we can't save them."

The bigger problem is getting through to her, and helping her control her magic. That's where Mage comes in. He's been there, he has had powers he couldn't easily control, he has the staff that will hopefully help, and it takes serious effort for him to be vegetarian as a Ghoul.
>>
>>23832261
look back to the previous thread at the list of our group's abilities. Mage had some spells I know we still have not used.
>>
>>23832254
>As for words: Explain to the king that the Dramatae have basically gone nuts and are corrupting the Citadel. Purple Sands, Stone Hall, his own son. No. This is a terrible idea. We're just asking for Citadel to shank us in the back.
>>
>>23832261
Oh, if we can have a different group go after Sophia, then definitely Ssen and Mage.

Tricia still needs to weaken the executioner, and whoever we send with her should be someone who could start on another miracle of their own.

And yeah, Lea and someone else could go to Julian or HIS. But which?
>>
>>23832276
I like it. Also throw in a trust in us. Just as we trusted your father when we walked into your shop, trust in the Light that watches over us.
>>
>>23832254
Really should be namefagging, we need all the rerolls we can get.
>>
>>23832302
Mira got a smart brain on her. She should be able to figure something out. Something historically important and poignant, that evokes the rich history of Citadel, that calls out to the heart of the people.
>>
>>23832302
I think Julian would be better at working the legal angle. HIS is a spiritual leader and wouldn't really have much say in the matter.

We need to get Julian and Odette together, and press Odette that we know the whole thing is a farce and use the confessions as proof. In her stressed out state. Worst case, she does something desparate and stupid that will mess up her credibility and Julian can step in. Best case, Julian gets the evidence he needs to stall or call off the execution.
>>
>>23832342
Then we will use the next turn to approach HIS.

Is HIS different from the dragon daughter?
>>
>>23832354
I believe so. But Citadel probably has strong influence over her.
>>
As form miracles, we have tricia, mage, and ssen. Tricia has weakened the stage, may find a bug to weaken the executioner. Mage can heat the rod, possibly weaken. Ssen can pray.
>>
>>23832354
Okay, so Ssen and Mage to get to Sophie and talk her down.

Tricia and Tara to give the executioner a nasty little sting.

So we have Mari/Peri and Lea left, and you're still discussing.

Is this correct so far?
>>
To get her attention, just call out "Sophie?"

We need two lines of conversation: one to deal with the pistol and one to deal with the magic. Start with whatever one seems most urgent (the pistol if she seems like she'll intentionally use it, the magic if she just seems out of control, panicked, Citadel'd, etc).

For the pistol:
>>23832308
requoting to put it all in one place:
>"We know they're innocent; they were just looking for you, and got mistaken for doing something against Citadel. We're going to save them, but if you do anything with that pistol then we can't save them."

For the magic, I just realized something possibly important: what if she's the female Lightbringer we keep seeing visions of?

In any case:
"I know what it's like to feel all that power and not be able to control it. You had a comfortable life before it came along, and Citadel felt warm and inviting and happy. But then something changed...". (And if it turns out Citadel is pushing her towards romance, which it wants any girl to do in its story, Mage should play along and oblige, *if* that's what Sophie wants.)
>>
Mari/Peri and Lea should head to Julian to present our findings. With that evidence he should be able to get the ball started on shutting this thing down.
>>
>>23832391
I think general consensus is to have Lea and Mari/Peri get Julian and Odette together and confront Odette about submitting fake evidence and using the confessions as new evidence.
>>
As we go about our business, like while slithering around, we should take just a second to give our medallion a squeeze and ask ourselves, "Father, is this the hard part? Because it sure feels like it."
>>
>>23832410
oh, no. It's when we FUCK THIS UP that is the hard part.
>>
>>23832408
For extra irony, we have Julian submit the confessions as additional "confidential evidence".
>>
>>23832391
>Tricia and Tara to give the executioner a nasty little sting.

Not something acute like a stinger; that would have to wait until right before the execution. And that's actually a good idea as another backup.

We need some kind of muscle weakening toxin, or paralytic, or *if* those aren't available then harsher things (he's an executioner, and I can't summon up the sympathy to do more than *try* to come up with a plan that won't hurt him much).
>>
>>23832409
Yes, this. But talk to Julian first and present the details.
>>
>>23832423
>We need some kind of muscle weakening toxin, or paralytic, or *if* those aren't available then harsher things (he's an executioner, and I can't summon up the sympathy to do more than *try* to come up with a plan that won't hurt him much).

Tricia can come up with something. Don't worry about that. It will take up the rest of her time, of course.
>>
>>23832440
OK. Tricia and Tara work on the second miracle, then. Mage and Ssen stop Sophie (Ssen for prayer and to get them up to the roof if needed, and Ssen and Mage for talking), and Mage starts running through spells in his head to decide what miracle to pull off. Mari/Peri and Lea present evidence to Julian and possibly the three/four of them go to Odette or HIS (based on what Julian says).
>>
>>23832393
Hahahaha. I feel so bad for mage if she is the female light bringer.
>>
>>23832419
I like it.
>>
One more alternative: Ssen can always offer to take a confession, if Sophie seems receptive.

And we can tell Sophie about the miracles; we don't have to say we're involved.

Oh, and last: if we absolutely have to, and we're short a miracle at the last moment, we could always shoot the executioner and claim he was struck down by a bolt from the clear sky. :)
>>
>>23832517
No. Bad idea.
>>
Oh, I just remembered a key spell that Mage can cast reliably: transmute! He already used it to collapse a mountainside. I can see any number of ways to use that to stop the execution.
>>
>>23832544

Transmute the bar of steel into something symbolic and dramatic. Or cause it to rust at an alarming rate until it corrodes away into nothingness.
>>
>>23832517
Okay, so...

Ssen and Mage go up to talk to Sophie.

Lea and Mari/Peri do the Phoenix Wright thing.

And Tricia and Tara poison a guy for just doing his job.

Right?
>>
>>23832589
Yes, that's the plan.
>>
>>23832544
one miracle: The iron bar becomes heated and the executioner drops it...

another: he picks it back up after a few awkkward moments of unease in the crowd and it becomes a serpent (or similar radical transformation. Not aware of the bounds of the transmute spell)
>>
>>23832603
Okay, you'll have to talk Sophie down, but the other two first. Long posts coming.
>>
>>23832589
Yup, this.
>>
>>23832609
>Not aware of the bounds of the transmute spell)

Mage can reliably and easy do Stone To Mud.
>>
>>23832620
Ah, argh. OK, what other spells can Mage cast reliably, and what can he cast somewhat reliably?

(The 0-time-left miracle implementations will be where we burn any rerolls we have to.)
>>
>>23832589
We can cure him later.
>>
>>23832620
When en route to Sophie, do we have a moment to ask him how quietly/from how far away he can cast that spell?

>To liquify the cobblestones beneath the stage unevenly, throwing the executioner and crowd off balance.
>>
>>23832658
That's also assuming Tricia can't come up with something non-permanent to begin with.
>>
>>23832667
If the stage collapses when he does that, that'll burn two of our miracle preps for only one miracle.
>>
>>23832620
How about Iron to Rust?
>>
>>23832675
not if he does it after the hole-in-the-floor bit.
>>
>>23832609
"So, what kind of a bug was that?"

"That Tara, was a Citadel Whistling Moth, a Risialotta Lepidoptera Insectica. A beautiful creature known for the soft whirring that it can make when feeding on its diet, wool and other fibrous plants, it also has one of the most agitating secretions known to man. I have him land on the man's bare neck and let it shed just a little. The resulting histamine reaction will be extremely potent, and it wont take effect instantly. Plus, while the effects are dramatic, they're non-lethal, and the swelling will go down eventually once all the pus drains."

"Oh. Okay." A pause. "So...what kind of bug was that?"

(More coming)
>>
>>23832678
Or for that matter, how narrowly does stone-to-mud define "stone"? Because trying to hit someone with a bar of mud doesn't work so well either.
>>
>>23832706
Poor Tara, Poor Tricia.
>>
>>23832706
Echo, you write the best NPC banter.
>>
>>23832706
OK, that's two miracles down, some vague plans for Mage to pull off a magical miracle but no specific spell nailed down yet, and Ssen praying for a true miracle from both His Light and any reformed dragons or close relations in the area. Can we come up with anything else?
>>
Right now, Stone to Mud on the road seems most likely. In Stone Hall, that was enough to actually sink ghouls down into the road and incapacitate them, so that ought to work.
>>
>>23832706
"And you're saying that these devices are harmless novelties?" Julian asks.

"Yes, here...one of them makes these." She shows him the card. "The other is apparently just an ornate water pump."

"Odette has no idea what they're for. They were conspiring, yeah, but to find Gregory's kid." Mari says. "And if the child was acting as irrationally as they said, they didn't want to risk Occuli getting hurt, or hurting her."

Julian nods. "It does make sense. But, how are you so certain that they're telling the truth?"

"Ssen asked them to." Lea said.

There's a pause. Julian nods. He turns to his Red Occuli. "Go get Paladin Odette's 'weapon evidence.' I want to see these things myself."

"Sir, they're supposed to be kept classified so the Conclave can inspect them before dest-"

"That is an ORDER, boy!" He barks. "If they aren't here by the time that this is over, you will find out how hard I swing the iron bar of justice!"

The man gulps, salutes and runs.

"Ladies," He nods. "Thank you for informing about this..." He looks at the scene. "I'll see what I can do." He heads towards the Newgates.

"This is not what I had in mind, when I said that I'd be willing to do anything." Mage grumbles as he hangs onto you, with your tail wrapped around his ankle.

You are shimming up the second chimney of the bakery, it being low enough for you to climb up and then wrap around. Pulling Mage along for the ride.

You both walk over to Sophie, she's huddled into herself. "Don'twannadon'twannadon'twanna..." She looks up and points the gun at you and Mage, alternating back and forth between you. The blue sparks increase.

"Sophie, you're safe now. I don't want you to think about us or that feeling in the back of your mind. Think about your brother, Gregory, who loves you with all of his heart. We know that he and his friends did nothing wrong; they were just looking for you." You say.

Sophie looks at the thing in her hands. "I saw Mr. Pits use it. It made a loud noise and broke a bottle..." She sniffs and puts it on the ground. "It's scary, but it made me feel safe when I held it."

>>23833337
yes, now pray those 'miracles' work.
>>
>>23833337
yup, we did everything we could to prepare. Julian is revisiting the evidence. Miracles are a go. Sofia is safe and not going to shoot anyone.
>>
>>23833363
We got the bugs under the executioner's clothes, the rotten away stand, the heated pole, and the transmogrified holy symbol. Rigght?
>>
of course we just have to wait for something to blindside us since we missed two hints at the start of this.
>>
OK. Possible miracles, which we need to put in order:

Executioner stuck in the mud. But not permanently, because if they switch executioners our stinging doesn't work.
Executioner collapses.
Stage collapses.
An attempt at transmuting the iron rod directly.
A sting by something fast-acting, if we have to.
Odette's medallion melts into mud, but that only works as a miracle if people are looking at her. If we have to, we could draw the crowd's attention to her ("Look at that, it's a sign!"), but that's really forcing it.
Ssen's prayer for a real miracle, from His Light, the dragon, or the dragon's daughter, whoever is listening.
>>
>>23833367
Also, we should raise sofia up above the crowd on our shoulders and call out to Gregory. We want the crowd to see the relief in a "guilty" man's eyes when he finds his little sister is safe and sound. We want them all to see his lack of concern for his own life.
>>
>>23833386
Er, not "executioner collapses"; just swells up and recovers. So that'll be fine any time before the stage and sticking in the mud.
>>
>>23833386
Not the dragon's daughter. Dragon is with the Light, and you don't pray to angels.
>>
>>23833401
I like this.
>>
>>23833401
I am behind this man.
>>
>>23833401
Yes, this! If Mage can do it, let him, otherwise have Tara do it. (Ssen could do it, but she'll need to be free to work the crowd.)
>>
>>23833422
Yeah, we'd be the best for it, what with height and strength, but we have other tasks to which we must attend. Tara is strong though, and taller than Mage (I think).
>>
>>23833441
Tara duty for this, then, until we can rescue Isen.
>>
>>23833422
Tara would be best for this as she is probably stronger then us, mage has to be casting remember.
>>
>>23833447
Also, she has handlebars.
>>
>>23833447
Yeah, one issue for later: if these aren't the assassin, then Isen's assassin is still out there, so he'll be under even tighter guard until we (heh) stop Peace.

>>23833454
Oh, right, I'm an idiot. Yeah, Tara.

>>23833461
I so want art of this.
>>
>>23833322
You reach the others as the last of the men are lashed. You can see Julian yelling at the Blue Occuli, they're refusing to let him through to King Newgate...and you also notice that they have a glassy look on their faces, like they aren't totally there, but know to NOT let Julian to the King.

The men see that you have Sophie and Gregory relaxes for a moment. Then he remembers that he's about to be beaten to death and finally starts to look worried about himself.

Lea holds onto Sophie tightly as she tries to get to her brother. "Trust in His Light, things will work out...and he works in mysterious ways. But not deadly ones, I hope." She looks at Tricia.

"Of course not! What kind of person do you think I am?"

Lea raises an eyebrow.

"Okay, fair enough." Tricia sighs. "But don't worry. It'll just look bad."

Odette walks up to the stage. She shoots you the nastiest, most vicious, smile that you've ever seen cross her greasy snake-like face.

Too bad the little viper just messed with a Queen Snake.

"BEHOLD THE FATE OF TRAITORS!" She yells.

The crowd cheers as the Executioner steps forward, holding the metal rod up above his head. He takes one step towards Robin...and crashes through the floor of the stage. The rod landing with a CLANG.

There's some gasps, and some laughter. A little bit of murmuring in the crowd.

Paladin Bobbi Odette looks at you with a glare. You just calmly look back at her. She goes to help the executioner up from the pit.

The large man in the leather hood get back to his feet, and collects the iron bar. He hefts it again, and the crowd applauds a little. It's not as loud as it was before though.

He walks up to Robin and takes a position. Readys himself for the first blow, and then drops the bar as he drops to his knees trying to claw at the back of his neck.

He rips off his hood to reveal that all of the back of his head is red, swollen, and oozing pus. He's clawing hard enough to draw blood.
>>
>>23833469
OK, that's two.

Get up in front as fast as possible, point at Odette, and:

"Hold! It's a Miracle! Praise His Light!"
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0fuYY39Tmrl
(Thanks to the current Vocaroo thread for the help.)

Then Mage turns her medallion to mud.
>>
>>23833487
That's sort of obvious. and sinister.

Actually really sinister.

Does Ssen just always sound sinister? Should I be reading her lines sinisterly?
>>
Now we pray
>>
>>23833469
This gona be good.gif
>>
>>23833502
Yes.
>>
>>23833487
wait. the hot rod comes next.

then we, in the wake of the 3rd miracle, propose the men's innocence and demand Odette clarify the charges. as she stands before the crowd to do so, THEN her medallion melts.
>>
>>23833487
Too obvious, we may as well just get up on stage and demand a stop to this execution.
>>
>>23833510
I like this, but we should pray as well.
>>
>>23833510
We don't know that we *can* heat the rod, though Mage should certainly try.

And Ssen should start praying now, yeah.
>>
>>23833518
What if we fail, and the Light intervenes?
>>
>>23833469
Cock an eyebrow at Odette.
>>
>>23833407
>Not the dragon's daughter. Dragon is with the Light, and you don't pray to angels.
Not directly, but angels are pretty effective at carrying out the results. We'll take what we can get.
>>
>>23833518
We ought to pray for the men who hold back Julian, for they know not that they are acting against the Light they seek to serve. Pray that their minds be cleared.
>>
>>23833469
Lea give Tricia a look. Tricia shrugs. "Non-fatal! Blood's his fault!"

"It is a sign! it is a sign!" Her Illuminated Self cries out. "Stop this! Stop this now! This is an act unseemly in His Light! Stop this now!"

The crowd mentality has splintered. You can hear a bunch of different conversations and a lot of murmuring. A few people have gotten to their knees to ask for forgiveness. Some still want the execution to continue, but most are a little nervous and are looking towards Odette.

You see that Julian has gotten through the Blue Occuli and is taking to King Newgate. The king seems very disturbed by what has happened. He's nodding at Julian's words.

"No...no, no..." You see Odette mutter under her breath. She glares at you. "This is your doing...you..." She pauses and tilts her head. "Yes...yes. I hear you! I HEAR YOU, PRAISE IN YOUR GLORIOUSNESS!" She screams she grabs the metal rod and runs up to Gregory. "I SHALL DO THIS IN YOUR NAME! I SHALL SAVE CITADEL! MAY THOSE WHO WOULD DESTROY IT BE MADE CLEAR, AND SUFFER IN HIS LIGHT!" She screams as she raises the bar.

"Ssen!" Mage says. "I have an idea!"
>>

Let us pray for Odette that, through this trial may she be broken in all the bent and twisted places of her soul and that, with the patience and forgiveness of those around her, she may grow strong in the broken places.
>>
>>23833562
"Do it!" You yell over Sophie's shrieks.

No one's looking at Mage as he taps his staff on the ground. They're all looking at Odette.

That's why they all see Odette's medallion bubble and hiss upon her chest, melting into mud and staining her armor.

Odette drops the bar in shock.

Almost the entire crowd is on their knees now. HIS is openly praying for forgiveness and mercy.

Julian's Red Occuli are advancing on to the stage.

"No, no...this...it's a trick! All of it! I'm telling you!" She points at you. "It's HER! SHE'S DOING THIS! THE SERPENT IS TRYING TO FOOL YOU!"

"Are you accusing the Hero of Citadel, the woman who saved my life, of being a fraud?" Isen says as he stand up from his seat. "I see a shining Medallion upon her neck! You I only see black, dark, mud...and only someone trutly wretched could make mud on a lady totally unbecoming."

Odette back away. "No...no...wait...wait...I can hear Him...tell me...tell me what you want! I am here to serve you! I have always been here to serve you! Tell me! Tell me what's going on?! What's been causing everything to go so wrong?"

The Red Occuli seem uneasy upon approaching the crazy paladin with the sword.

"Yes...yes...I will. I WILL! The Tainted Order shall be destroyed! They shall be no more!" She laughs as she runs off of the stage. The crowd parts to let her pass as she runs through, drawing her sword and screaming.

"SAVE CITADEL! KILL THE CALIGO CLARUS! I'LL DESTROY THEM ALL! FOR HIS GLORY, HIS LIGHT, FOR CITADEL!" She screams as she runs towards the Cathedral.

Everyone looks at Mage.

"Hey, I only melted the amulet. I didn't do anything to her brain." He says.
>>
>>23833654
Oh, absolutely. This farce of justice is mostly Citadel, with Odette as the instrument. But that little speech we overheard from Odette, against elves, dwarves, us, and anyone not human? I think that was more her than Citadel. And at Stone Hall, when she wanted Julian to break his word given to the lamias as a Paladin? That was all her.
>>
>>23833681
oh no oh shit oh fuck

We just bellyflopped into a thick soup of beesnests and beartraps.
>>
>>23833681
Pray for her. Then approach her calmly.

/tg/, should we use the Light to save her from Citadel's voices?
>>
Pray for Odette. Pray that she will be safe in His Light.

Then wrap her once she is close enough. Don't kill. No one shall die today.
>>
>>23833681
YOU SAVE THAT LADY

YOU SAVE THAT LADY THIS INSTANT
>>
>>23833701
If you want to do that, you'll have to catch her first. She's booking towards the Cathedral, screaming about destroying the order.
>>
>>23833701
>>23833703
Yes. She is lost in darkness, afraid and panicking. She's not our real enemy and we know that.
>>
>>23833681
Stop her, she will probably attempt to destroy Father's Statue, the Caligo Clarus book etc if she reaches the cathedral
>>
>>23833681

Could she be heading toward the "Upper Cloister" in the Cathedral to demolish the statues?

While it's a vastly symbolic gesture, I have a feeling that allowing this to happen might have negative consequences. Should Ssen & Co. give chase, along with any other willing Paladins?
>>
>>23833681
Tackle her.
>>
>>23833703
This (with the prayer that drove out Citadel's influence before), except that she isn't running towards us, she's running towards the cathedral. And she's talking about destroying the Caligo Clarus. I think she's going to destroy something crucial, like the book and statue.
>>
oops, misread that last bit yes go catch her.
>>
>>23833681
Welp, it looks like she's off to demolish our father's statue...

Let's make sure Julian and Isen can handle things from here. Drop some suggestions that they commute their sentence to exile and then lets go save Odette from herself.
>>
>>23833716
Quick prayer as we run. Silently. This is not a time to show off how devout we are. It is a time to truly seek the Light's favours.
>>
>>23833701
>Implying a Paladin might ever choose -not- to offer their hand to one in need.

NO ONE is every utterly beyond redemption. Love her, forgive her her faults, and lament the goodness she discarded over her life while cherishing that which remains and nurturing that which she may regain.
>>
>>23833723
>Could she be heading toward the "Upper Cloister" in the Cathedral to demolish the statues?

Yeah, she didn't exactly understand the message that she got from Citadel. So she's going to 'destroy the Caligo Clarus' and she doesn't see YOU as a Paladin, of course. So...
>>
>>23833716
"She needs to be stopped! Preferably unhurt!"
>>
>>23833738

After her! With haste!

We don't have to stop her, but we have to get her to stop herself!
>>

>>
>>23833740
"She needs to be stopped! Preferably unhurt!" You shout at the others.

Sophie has run up onto the stage to hug her brother.

Julian is ordering his men after Odette, but they seem to be having trouble understanding his orders, or they look dizzy.

You can feel it, in the sparks and the shadows. It's reeling in confusion, and...not pain...but it's upset and hurt that its not getting what it wants.

Roll 1d20 to try and catch up with the crazy bitch.

You guys still need to GET to her. She's inside the Cathedral now, you hurl open the door and follow her. You start going through the prayers the moment you get inside.

The walls of the cathedral are now covered with a rippling layer of shadows and sparks, the glass is cloudy, and the windows of the lightbringers don't show them victorious...but show them being dismembered, and houses, towers, and streets, being forged from their skin, blood, body, and soul. Odette is kneeling in the center of the room. The door slam behind you. You hear your friends, banging on the door trying to get inside.

"You...Ruined...Everything..." Odette says. She gets up from her kneeling position and turns to face you. Her sword pointed at you. Her eyes are gone, now just pools of shadow, with sparks flying off of her. "This...isn't...what...I...want." She says. "Monsters are monsters...and things MUST BE..." She blinks and her regular eyes return. "No...no...please...I was right! Why couldn't you just see that I was right!? It's so cold." She blinks again and it's the shadows. "Mistake...mistake...mistake...FIX mistake..."

>>
>>23834021
Draw our own blade, finish prayer of clarity, and prepare to defend.

Bring this woman to her senses.
>>
Remember, she hasn't killed anyone. She rounded up some folks for a lynching, but we saved them. A girl went off with a gun, but we saved her too. She shot at us with a ship's cannon, but we lived.

And even bigotry can pass, with clear thought and reason.
>>
Remember folks: The last citadel possessed we came up against died. Terribly. This is our chance to do it better!
>>
>>23834074
Who was possessed by Citadel?
>>
Key detail: the Light opposes Citadel, and our medallion helps protect us. Odette was on the precipice already, and we destroyed her medallion. She needs a shield; we need to talk her into letting us get close, and share our medallion's light with her.
>>
>>23834081
The ghoul leader. We had planned on killing him, due to his unrepentant nature, but we would have probably at least tried to talk to him a bit.

He exploded when mage undid the enchantment controlling him, as he also did the enchantments he had forming his body, causing meatsplosion.
>>
>>23834021
"Everyone makes mistakes now and again, Odette. All is not lost so long as you wish to once more find the light, and I know you do." Grasp our medallion and channel a bit of father's strength. "Light stay the hand of your lotal servant, for her unwavering devotion has become unquestioning. Grant her the serenity to learn and the courage to then face the change she discovers and, in turn, we shall lend her our strength whenever her courage may falter, as all ours must at times."
>>

CRASH! CRASH!

Two of the Lightbringers on the stained glass windows break away from their displays and land on the ground. They reassemble themselves and point their 'swords' at you. The Shadow-Spark aura is clear around them.

"Kill her, in the light's name!" Odette yells as she runs for the stairs.

The door's been opened and the ladder's dropped down. The rugs and prayer blankets have been tossed aside, one has landed on the ladder giving you a ramp.

She's already smashed four of the old statues. She's about to start on the fifth, when she turns to look at you. Her eyes are normal now, and her body isn't giving off Citadel Smoke.

"You." She says. "You...you are an insult to everything this building stands for."

>>
Alright speech time.... I got nothing.

Odette. A monster is defined by its actions. Not its form. Not its past. Not its species. Its their dedication to doing right. Or their dedication to destroying what is good that differentiates a man from a monster. You tried to hurt good people Odette and I saved them. In this case YOU were acting the monster.

But you don't have to be. Confess and repent. See the error you have devoted yourself to. Welcome his light into your heart once more.
>>
>>23834555
You've seen the justice here. That might not be wise.
>>
"Odette, you have been listening to Citadel for too long. His Light does not destroy. You spoke of a mistake earlier. What was it, Odette?"
>>
>>23834580
Confession time!
>>
>>23834574
I like this, if she doesn't listen, perhaps His Light can show her the truth.

Press the symbol of the caligo clarus to her forehead.
>>
>>23834568
"There are none so blind as those who do not wish to see. Please, Bobbi, I only want to help you!"

She says nothing.

"There is still time Odette, You can still change your path and walk in the Light again."

Nothing.

"Remember who you are, -Paladin- Odette."

Nothing.

"Odette. A monster is defined by its actions. Not its form. Not its past. Not its species. Its their dedication to doing right. Or their dedication to destroying what is good that differentiates a man from a monster. You tried to hurt good people Odette and I saved them. In this case YOU were acting the monster." You take a breath. "But you don't have to be. Confess and repent. See the error you have devoted yourself to. Welcome his light into your heart once more."

She looks at you with a dull hate and says nothing.
>>
>>23834618
"Look back on this day, Odette; you would have executed four innocents. Only by the grace of His Light was that travesty stopped. You can still be saved, Odette. You can still be forgiven. You say you don't want to be saved by a monster? I'm not the one doing the saving here. His Light offers forgiveness. You only have to take it."
>>
>>23834618
Then if you will not repent we shall take you to your former peers to be judged for your actions this day. For lying. For attempted murder. For betraying his Light that you swore to uphold.
>>
>>23834618
"Then... it will be what it will be."

Say nothing after this. Just wait for some people to arrive.

Hope people arrive before statues.
>>
>>23834617
You press the symbol of the Caligo Clarus to her head.

She tries to shake it off. "Just crush me, or eat me, or kill me. I am ready to enter His light." She closes her eyes, too proud to repent, to arrogant to see her wrong. She was driven mad by Citadel, but now, here, it can't reach,a nd you see a woman who was convinced that she was always right, and she knew best, and now she's beaten...and it still isn't her fault.

>>23834674
"No, I don't think I could have. You guys are life savers."

"I was in a rush, trying to stop this." You point at the crushed statues.

"Oh, the Light show this woman forgiveness for her foolishness and mistakes." Lea sighs.

(She broke the blank ones)

"Damn, now that's a shame." Tricia sighs. "The guys are fine, by the by. Royal pardon and everything."

"So, what are we going to do with her?" Mari asks.
>>

>Forging evidence, attempted murder x3, etc

>>
>>23834739
I like this. If she continues to refuse to talk, then "Let the Paladins judge her", but I want to see if this'll get her to speak.
>>
>>23834754
Perhaps, but I don't see a swinging iron bar in her future, just a lot of stationary ones between her and sane people.
>>
>>23834744
This. Attempted distruction of historical items and slander of an aspirant had ought to go on there too.
>>
>>23834754
okay, nevermind on my dialogue then.
>>
>>23834735
"She is, or was, a Paladin. Let the Paladins judge her."

Odette snorts. "Another farce of a trial? Fine. It doesn't matter. I will die and leave this world of sin behind me, and I will go to His Light and be taken to my just reward." He looks at you. "They think it's a miracle what happened...I know it was you. How does it feel to have perverted the faith of all of those who worship the Light? They will thank him for the miracle, when the only thing they'll be thanking is you...you've damned them all."
>>
>>23834771
"Another farce? Had some recent experience with one of those? And don't think I'll let you get a farce of a trial, Odette. I won't stand for a lynching, not by you, and not of you."
>>
>>23834771
Its only a farce if those who preside over it do not seek the truth.
>>
>>23834771
"On the contrary. Today, this flesh had the honor of being the tool through which the will if His Light was exerted upon our world in order to see true justice done. What I and mine accomplished, what we prevented was very much a miracle, by the grace of the strength He granted us."
>>
>>23834779
"Another farce? Had some recent experience with one of those? And don't think I'll let you get a farce of a trial, Odette. I won't stand for a lynching, not by you, and not of you."

She scoffs and looks away. Lea shakes her head. "How lost you must be."

"Spare me," She closes her eyes. "Take me to your so-called Paladins, and they may execute me and doom us all. The Last Paladin will die with her dignity, at least."

Can we move without letting go of Odette? If so, drag her out. If not, uncoil just enough for someone to take her sword away before doing anything else.
>>
>>23834853
and yes I saw it too. These poor people. So many sacrificed for its appetite. So many eyes blinded because of it.
>>
>>23834844
That seems like the best plan right now. Any chance of getting someone with manacles up here a bit quicker?
>>
>>23834866
best to leave this until we leave.
>>
>>23834844
> "Oh, uhh Lea kept insisting that the Cathedral looked weird...but it doesn't now."
> "I saw this place for what it was...we need to be out of here as soon as possible."

Need to talk with Lea about this at some point. How she saw that the Lightbringer stories are really just a sacrifice to feed Citadel.
>>
>>23834866
Don't bring this up any more until we are out of citadel please.
>>23834844
"That was the plan, unless you want to help me disarm her yourselves"

>Odette
>>
>>23834859
You wait until finally Julian and his men arrive. "You captured her...in an unusual way." He sighs. "You need to let her go."

"What?"

"His Majesty is in a forgiving mood. He has pardoned the four men, and Paladin Odette. We have all been led astray, and the best way for Citadel to return to its peace is to forgive and forget. So he has decreed. This day has never happened."

He looks at you. "You need to let her go."
>>
>>23834910
"Gladly. I'm relieved to see that Citadel and its good King are as able to forgive her as I am.

Let her go, mindful of her sword-arm.
>>
>>23834910
"I'm actually quite relieved."

Uncoil and depart from her. Smoothly and quickly.
>>
>>23834910
"At the very least strip her from being a paladin!"
>>
>>23834910
No trail, no punishment, just ... go? That's it? Truly, justice roots away here.

>No don't really say this.

I think we really should take that book with us if can. Really don't think it's safe here anymore.
>>
Julian, she will try to do such again. Her mind is blinded by hate.

Loosen your coils. Be prepared to defend yourself if she strikes at you.
>>
>>23834922
I second this. While mentioning that someone should keep an eye on her, just in case.
>>
>>23834927
Not so fast. Remember that only His Light is perfect. Even its servants are human.
>>
>>23834938
yes take the book to our paladin appointment and ... forget to return it afterwords
>>
>>23834910
Take her sword, she doesn't get to wield it so close to the prince.
>>
>>23834910
"His Light offers forgiveness, but one cannot forget, only forgive. This day most definitely happened. But I have forgiven her, so it is just as well that others have as well."

But, tell Julian what she said about the "Last Paladin" and about wanting to die and meet his light. Make it clear that you want to disarm her before releasing her.
>>
>>23834938
>trail
>trial

I need sleep.
>>
>>23834949
>>23834938
Yes, take the book with us.
>>
>>23834961
Only if you want to go out there and be like "Well, now that that's over with, I believe THIS was next on the schedule!"
>>
>>23834922
"Gladly. I'm relieved to see that Citadel and its good King are as able to forgive her as I am." You begin to uncoil.

"Mindful of her sword."

Julian nods and pulls out her sword and hands it to an Occuli.

"So," Odette says as she steps back from you. "This whole day has never happened?"

Julian nods. "Yes. Though there will need to be a re-examination of your investigation into this incident. You made some well intentioned mistakes, mostly dude to pressure."

She nods and takes another step back from you and your group and nearer Julian's side. "Yes," She says. "Anything else?"

"You will not be present tomorrow when Paladin Ssen is given her confirmation into the order." Julian says.

She nods. "I understand...so, this thing is becoming a Paladin?"

"Her name is Ssen."

"You can name a dog, but that will not make it anything more than a dog." Odette says. "Lizard people are lizard people, humans are humans, and monsters will always be monsters."

"That is not how things are anymore." Julian says. "Things are changing."

"No, things are being destoryed and corrupted...and I do not wish to see that world."

She turns and jumps at the window.
>>
>>23834990
DIVING TACKLE!

We've done it before, we've done it again! I hope maybe an NPC reacts first, but goddamn our snakelike reflexes are good.
>>
Rolled 2

>>23834990
Tail grab. Not going to be that easy. I hope.

Bet we can't save her.
>>
>>23834990
>>23835004
This. She doesn't deserve to die, even by her own hand.
>>
>>23834990
Tail grab.
>>
>>23835005
>dice
>all of my hate
>>
>>23834990
Looks like Odette gonna destoryed in both literal terms.
>>
>>23835005
Not with that roll you cant;
>>
>>23835004
Okay, you are quick enough to try and tackle her.

Bad news is that Citadel wants this, so she's giving off a Citadel Aura.

Roll 3d20 to hit target number
>>
>>23835005
You know what, I'm almost willing to burn a reroll on this. After all, she didn't *want* to be saved by a monster, but...
>>
Rolled 7, 16, 1 = 24

>>23835019
>>
Rolled 13, 9, 6 = 28

>>23835019
>>
Rolled 7, 12, 10 = 29

>>23835019
Pray and try.
>>
Rolled 2, 1, 10 = 13

>>23835019
Fuck
>>
>>23834990
>>23835004
assuming, of course, we don't tackle her out the window.

Or if we do, we have a good thing to grab onto with our tail
>>
>>23835005
Sad fact of the world: You can't save someone from herself.
>>
>>23835027
Nope.

Play 'Green Bird' from Cowboy Bebop here.
>>
Rolled 5, 8, 6 = 19

jeesh, nothing over 30
>>
>>23835040
We can try, but that is all we can do.
>>
>>23835019
If it burns like before, hold on anyway. Don't flinch away.
>>
>>23835040
Amen to that.
>>
>>23835010
Eh, she's earned the right to land in a hay bale, then have an amusing series of failicide-related adventures.
>>
>>23835041
one minute.

Oh shit, that's the right music.

Good job.
>>
Rolled 9, 13, 19 = 41

what was our target?
>>
>>23835041
Do we have a hope if we reroll? Because if so, it's worth it. Reroll.
>>
>>23835041
>>23835051
oh, and to continue onto that, this scene is now in slow-motion in my mind.
>>
>>23835049
Heh, nice. But Citadel wouldn't allow that.
>>
>>23835054
No she'll just loathe us more and swallow her tongue if she has to.
>>
>>23835054
no, we don't. the next like three rolls are the same or worse.
>>
>>23835054

I wouldn't waste the reroll if we have one.

Give it one try and that's it. And we failed. Not all can be saved. Something we need to face.

Mage, stone-to-mud, ground below, now.
>>
>>23835083
The impact would still kill her.
>>
>>23835041
You all run outside. It's sickening...not because there's a mess, no Odette landed and died in one perfect piece, and worst of all. She's got her eyes closed and her smile is one of a person at perfect peace.

Julian shakes his head. "May you find your way in His Light." He says.

"Suicide is the highest form of arrogance and pride." Lea says. "It will take a long time for her. I would be lying if I said she didn't deserve it."

"No." Julian said. "This day does not exist, remember? Paladin Odette, merely died in her sleep." He motions for his men to take the body away.

You can feel Citadel in the back of your mind.

It is content.
>>
>>23835091
...everything that happened today, and *that's* one of the most disturbing sights.
>>
>>23835091
Seeing my foes driven before me is not as satisfying as was advertised.
>>
>>23835106
I don't want to hear the lamentations of our Mage-folk.
>>
>>23835091
>"No." Julian said. "This day does not exist, remember? Paladin Odette, merely died in her sleep." He motions for his men to take the body away.

"Forgiveness and forgetfulness are two different things. Say it all you like, but this day happened."
>>
>>23835091
"When will the funeral be held?"
>>
>>23835091
A reckoning will come one day, Citadel. Just you wait.
>>
>>23835091
And with that, I have to call it a night. Next thread 3-23-13, 7pm PST
Hoped you liked today, major kudos to the one who came up with melting her amulet. Brilliant move. Tomorrow is Ssen's comfirmation, followed by Operation: Get the High Holy FUCK Out of Here NOW!
>>
You know, content or not, I feel like this is the closest we've come to a victory over Citadel so far. We saved almost everyone except its rather willing instrument, and rather than thwart us, all it can do is flip the table and retcon. So be it.

I sort of hope ssen gets a bit of a break until at least we get our paladinhood. She's had a hard first-three-days-out-of-a-coma.

oh noooo
>>
>>23835192
As I said before, I will try my level best to never say no to you guys, to let you run the game as however you will and free reign to be as pious or destructive as possible.

That said, I will also try my level best to make your lives hell at the same time.

Oh, and I want to make something clear, because I see some people don't understand.

Those visions of the Lightbringers are NOT metaphors. That's actually happening.
>>
>>23835184
>>23835192

Oh, there ain't no rest for the blessed.
Salvation don't grow on treees.
I got hands to lay,
I got prayers to lead,
And ain't nothin' in His Light for free.
>>
>>23835216
Echo, you bring some glorious hell indeed.
>>
>>23835216
B-b-b-but we JUST dealt with this whole execution thing! In two hours! How fast can horrible things possibly pile up!

I had to rewrite that to make sure I didn't ask how things could possibly get worse.
>>
Am I the only one that wants to find the dragons not out of desire for the blood to fix the damage Though that would be nice but rather for finding out how this fucking citadel came to be, and how to stop it? Imaging what goes through its mind if the damn thing is sapient when we just come up for stories.
>>
>>23835257
That is my entire objective once we get out of citadel, finding the MOST ANCIENT creatures and records possible to understand what we are fighting. But quickly, since we have to be back and with isen or a suitable king on the throne and the real lightbringers saved before they die. [/spoiler[
>>
>>23835227
Love it, I actually have been working on theme songs for some of the people. We have the theme song, and of course the song for the moment that just happened.

Tricia's Theme - Flight of the Bumblebee

Citadel Daily Life Theme - 'Little Boxes'

Lea's Theme - Baba Yetu

Isen the Audacious' Theme - Sexy and I Know It (LMFAO)

Any other ideas?
>>
>>23835254
Well great, now you asked the awful question AND let Citadel (Echo) smell your fear.
>>
>>23835269
Lots of stuff from Bastion would be fitting. Especially given the whole "Break the cycle" bit we have going for us.
>>
>>23835269
Peri/Mari - "Bicycle Built for Two"
Mage - "Baby Elephant Walk"
>>
>>23835216
I'm not going lie. Do hope Ssen does get a break here soon. Some time for shenanigans would be nice.
>>
>>23835299
>>23835216
Maybe we'll get a break once we get outside of citadel.

Just dealing with some like, bandits or werewolves or something. That will be nice.
>>
>>23835307
That's not really a break ... nor shenanigan-y ...
>>
>>23835329
>that's not a break
At this point I would consider some banditry a nice break.
>>
>>23835329
>>23835335
though, I would much prefer some simple downtime, but I doubt we'll get it.

Maybe paranoia flavored downtime at absolute best.
>>
>>23835346
Once you escape and go back to Stone Hall you'll have plenty of time for the breather episode, go on a date with Tricia, ab/use your Paladin authority, and other fun things. Maybe even that harem scene I always keep threatening to write.

Stone Hall, thanks to the trauma of the attack and the generic screw up of the Humors, isn't part of Citadel anymore. It's a safe zone like the Caligo Clarus attic.
>>
>>23835364
yeah, I sort of expected that. I doubt citadel is going to be anything but a gauntlet for us until we leave.
>>
Alright thoughts for today and tomorrow.

Get the four who were about to be executed onboard for our escape. Citadel just tried to kill them. It won't stop at just one try. Though this should be much easier with Sophia agreeing with us. They're going to need to pack up and arrange transport so we need to tell them about our plans ASAP.

Isen. We need a way to grab him afterwords or during the ceremony and actually escaping.

... and thats all I can think of for right now.
>>
>>23835411
Perhaps we can legit get isen to go with us. The paranoia seems to have broken.
>>
>>23835420
Simple. Relief aid to stone hall, get them out of there and to a safe haven. Isen can come under "goodwill of the king to ensure stone halls reconstruction." I'm certain we can get a proper caravan going after all this shit for their things.
>>
>>23835460
theres a thought. Look for other misfits like these four. The way Citadel treats them makes it pretty easy to spot. That fruit seller they mentioned for instant.
>>
>>23835460
>>23835477
yeah. We should be doing this on our time between now and our paladin coronation. Looking for people who are in danger here.
>>
The more innovators we can snipe from citadel proper, the more assets we have. I'm sure the dwarves would love to have a looksee at all the stuff the inventor had but had materials issues making.
>>
>>23835364
What about Bronze Peak? I won't hope that it's completely free of Citadel influence, but can we at least escape its active oversight there?
>>
>>23835509
I am hoping stone hall is on the way to bronze peak, since it is a dwarven sounding town.
>>
>>23835509
I hope so too, one city like citadel is bad enough but more than one? fuck my life with a pogostick.
and here I was a few threads ago thinking this place couldn't be that bad...
how wrong I was
