In a world where monsters roam and go bump in the night, it is known by simple townsfolk that the only way a town can live and prosper is with a proper Gargoyle statue situated in some part of the town.

They know not the dark truth of these effigies, coming alive in the night and lurking, cleansing the folk of monsters and creeps, human and non-human alike.

Superstition, witch burning, and paranoia, the townsfolk are rarely ever ready to accept such magical things as a whole.

They believe, of coursem they believe all too well.

I am carving you for a small new settlement situated on the fringe of the frontier.
[Gargoyle Creation]

{You have a total of 15 points to make your base gargoyle, I will take you through each part in turn. Should you run low on points, certain options will simply not appear. Do not worry though, you will be made strong enough for whatever trouble you need encounter. Oh yes, and should I not add something now, your hunts should give you the power and traits you need. So fear not.)
>>
Material

Obsidian 4: Cut from volcanic glass, whatever cutting implements you employ are razor sharp, capable of cutting through even bone. An expensive material to be made from, townspeople are often superstitious and scared of the black glass. You will be but a shadow on moonless nights. Vulnerable to blunt attacks. Resistant to hostile magic, bonus to channeling magic.

Marble 4: Carved from white marble, you are a beacon of hope for the town, you are not necessarily the sturdiest material, nor does your form hold an edge, yet you do well with bludgeoning the creatures of the night into submission.
Townspeople revere this material.
You are not feared, yet watched very closely.

Iron 4: Forged of Iron, you are resilient and sturdy. You command a great weight when you are animate and can make excellent use of your form for Cutting, Piercing, or Bashing attack methods. You can not fly, even if you have wings. You are vulnerable to rust. You sink in water. Townsfolk find your form a bit unnerving.
Excels at Fae-slaying.

Silver/Brass: Molded from Silver/brass, you have a slightly lighter frame than Iron. Your cutting and bludgeoning capabilities are not as up to par, however you do conduct magic rather well.

Granite 3: Carved of Granite, you stand out far less than other materials. Your cutting abilities leave something to be desired, yet you have adequate capability in bludgeoning. Townspeople mostly ignoire your daytime form, thinking little of it.

Wood 3: Carved of Wood, you are blessed with an affinity for magic, however you aren't quite good at bludgeoning, cutting, or piercing. You have a light agile body. Vulnerable to fire, and rather inconspicuous.
>>
>>23814803

Silver and Brass are 4 points. Ah, I am so sorry, my dear Gargoyle. I mustn't confuse you.
>>
Let's go with marble. We can always find a place to stash weapons and increase our capacities.
>>
Marble.
>>
Obsidian, because we a real pimp nigga gargoyle. Them bitches gotta know who they dealin wit.
>>
>>23814872
>>23814873

Is this true, I will make you of Marble?

True, you may not have the sharpest points, however you certainly can crush those that threaten your stead.

Your people will think highly of you in your daytime form... Yet it may be difficult to move about in the night...

I simply need confirmation.
>>
Iron within, iron without.

There's a good reason swords are made out of metal, folks.
>>
>>23814906
Do it.

If there's a church, we might hoodwink them all into thinking we're its divine guardian in time.
>>
>>23814935
Iron, especially medieval-grade, is pretty shitty. Typically, soldiers could break iron swords easily enough.
>>
>>23814950

You imply the purity of my iron is poor?

My, my, I'll have you know that you'll be quite solid, firm.

Have no doubt, that with proper care, you will stand the test of time.
>>
I'll give you a few more moments to decide...

It seems you have two inklings toward Marble.

An inkling for Iron... Hmph!

And a desire for Obsidian.
>>
>>23815013
The handicap of not having wings and sinking in water (and that of rusting) is too high a price for iron.

And blunt force trauma is better, usually, than slicing things with obsidian shards.

Marble it is.
>>
>>23814992
>My, my, I'll have you know that you'll be quite solid, firm.

Sounds hot.

Is the iron hot?

Or at least warm?

Because if it is I'm all for iron.

If it's cold, eh, we can heat it up and I'll still be up for it~
>>
>>23815048

You can have iron wings...

Why wouldn't you be able to have wings of iron?

Just because you can't fly with them...
>>
>>23815083
Not the guy you were responding to, but what good is an animate building protector that dwells on a rooftop during the day and is awake at night that can't fly?
>>
>>23815083
Yeah, we'll need to fly, I expect. Nix on the iron.
>>
Marble master race.
>>
>>23815104

Not everyone puts their protector upon a roof...

If you want to fly however, I shall make it so when we get to that part!

Speaking of which,

Seems you are right set on Marble... Well, I suppose...

Very well, I will chisel you from Marble! Let this white stone be a beacon of hope to your people!

I do so hope you become a guardian worthy to them...

... I must decide upon a form for you... Whatever shall it be?
>>
Appearance

Humanoid 4: When animate or not, you have the appearance of a human, man or female. This visage will make it easier to move around at night, often disregarded as another person. Lacks claws, fangs, and tail. Has the ability to grip, allowing use of swords, maces, cudgels, etc.

Demonic 3: Your appearance is betwixt that of Man and Beast. Townspeople fear may fear you as a demon, yet in your hunts, it is effective. You have claw, fang, tail, and a mighty body. This form may gain access to advanced dark magics magics in the reign of their guardianship. May also crudely use human weapons.

Beast 2: Your form is that of an animal, yet to be determined. The Townspeople tend to disregard you somewhat based on this. Depending on your form, your weapons will vary. Can not articulate any kind of weapon well. Can gain special traits based on form.
>>
4/15 points spent by chance!
Be wary, my creation!
>>
>>23815166
>>23815173
How many categories do we have to go through? It's unclear if we can get away with a lot of 4 options at current.
>>
>>23815166
Yeah, if we go with the game-plan of using weapons to improve out effectiveness we should go humanoid. Also helps offset our shining white marble makeup - we can just wear a cloak.

Pretending at albinism might even work.
>>
>>23815166
Beast.

Housecat.

We shall be the White Cat of Good Omen.
>>
>>23814803

That's terrible, don't go housecat. Why are all quests weighed down by retarded choices out the gate.

>>
>>23815193

this
>>
>>23815198
This, but maybe we could be like one of those Chinese tiger statues instead? The ones guarding entrances?
>>
>>23815184

There are things that will challenge you.. I will subtract points from them... You may take on as many as you like... However I am not sure that I can make you strong enough for them all.

Let's see...

We have your form here...

Then your Specialty.

Then Traits! Traits will be where you may need more improvements...
>>
Humanoid seems the best bet. Voting for having opposeable thumbs.
>>
>>23815256

Demons have thumbs as well.
>>
>>23815268
Does beast form make it impossible to talk?
>>
Demon might be the best option here.

Marble gives us awesome bludgeoning attacks, right?

Could we be some kind of FISTS demon?
>>
>>23815193
>Also helps offset our shining white marble makeup

I caught the pre-quest thread yesterday. We'll have magic stealth options later that will make that moot.

I vote for a Demonic form. Gain physical advantages and magic bonus. Also, Human form would lack wings which would gimp us massively.
>>

>>
>>23815282

Certaintly not! You are a gargoyle, not a cat!
>>
>>23815250
Additionally, to what degree does choosing Demonic blur the line between man and beast? Could we be reasonably disguised as a human if we're careful to keep our distance and are thoroughly costumed?
>>
>>23815295
Would human form lack wings, OP? If so, changing my vote.
>>
>>23815310

You may have wings, however that may offset the purpose of being covert. They need to be fairly large for your flight after all!
>>
>>23815295
I was there too. I don't see where it says that human form lacks wings, we could roll angelic in this motherfucker.
>>
>>23815256
Another for humanoid.
>>
>>23815282
Ability to speak is an option we'll have to spend points for. Regardless of our build.
>>
>>23815356
OP, you'd best clarify this in regards to >>23815299

If the anons in the pre-quest thread have it right, tell us. Otherwise you're gimping us out the gate and that just gets you player remorse later.
>>
>>23815356

What the fuck, we're going to spend points just to get a character that talks? It'd be one thing if we just started mute or didn't, but having to BUY the ability to engage in dialogue seems shitty.

>>
If it is of any note, I am not quite sure how well your town will be...

I see that you have interest in their weaponry, however it may not be quite good enough..

>>23815373
It is true, you may expend points to start with the ability to speak.

However, you are a guardian that will indeed evolve.

This is not even your final form after all! Words will come to you now, or later!
>>
>>23815407
Do we get more points as we level and shit? 'Cause otherwise it's kind of retarded.
>>
>>23815300

Within reason, you may be mistaken in the night if you cover your form in one way or another.

Demons tend to be as much beast as man.

>>23815418
Yes, I believe that's what I've said.
>>
>>23815387

I remember it said something like "Ability to speak right away."

This implys we might be able to learn this over time as we gain skills even if we don't spend point on it right away.
>>
>>23815407
Fuck it, we'll get them to FORGE us weapons. A note left on the blacksmith's doorstep in the morning and a bag of gold might net us a nice badass sword.
>>
>>23815453
I think it'd be best to go stealthy while we're weak. Humanoid form + marble buys us more chances to hide ourselves, and we can try and keep the wings under a big-ass coat or something.

I mean, unless they're like the size of a small ultralight aircraft, but then we wouldn't be able to fit through most doors.
>>
>>23815455

You tell it true!

So then... It seems that you have your heart set on appearing human... Now the question is, will I carve you as Adam, or perhaps as Eve?

I pray that you do not choose Lilith... Oh ho.. hmmm..

I intended as such either way, what need does a guardian have for such parts?

I only intend to shape your cuts and curves.
>>
>>23815300
>>23815332

I vote for Marble Demon and suggest we select the magic stealth option later to of-set the disadvantages of these forms.

Physically tough and powerful. Natural weapons (claws and teef) and limited tool use. Also, magic bonus.
>>
>>23815520
>>23815533
You know, in this context androgynous/genderless is actually appropriate. I'll second it.

Specialty

Dream-walker 4: You are able to enter people's dreams and influence them.
In the beginning, you have to physically enter the persons dream to affect it, later on, you can do that from your safe house at any distance, as long as you have a link to that person.
While in the dream, you can sustain damage as if you were attacked physically, but you can recover faster from it due to magic being more easily channeled.
You can't, however, physically attack the dreamer - at first, you can comb their dreams for manna and information, while later on you can mess with their heads, leave behind ideas, drive them to madness or even possess them.

Bound Spirit 4:you're able to talk to the Spirit that surround you and live in the various objects around you. Depending on your interactions with them, they can either be helpful or harmful (a fire spirit that's good with you will try to avoid dealing damage to you as much as it can, while the same spirit in a bad mood will try to hinder you any way it can). As your power progresses, so does your rating in the Spirit world - lesser spirits will automatically do your bidding, while you're becoming able to talk to the greatest of them (for example, talk to the Spirit of the City).

Eldritch 3: Easily learns new spells from Tomes. Begins with knowledge of offensive spells. Poor at Brutality.
-Curse of Pain: Living target begins to feel increasing pain until the curse is lifted.
-Burning Fingers: Gargoyle cloaks their hands in flames.

Dark Guardian 3: Has a knack for stealth and subversion, always drawing less attention to itself. Poor at items concerning Brutality. Begins with Dark Magic spells of:
-Sense Life: Allows Gargoyle to detect the life force of nearby creatures.
-Cloak of Shadow: Gargoyle can use this spell in a dark area to hide more effectively.
>>
Demon-Blooded 3: Has the ability to go berserk, attacking all targets in the area with a bestial ferocity. Poor at Subtlety.
More adept at using claws or human weapons(if applicable)
-Berserk: Sends the gargoyle into a murderous frenzy, attacking human and monster alike.

Neglected -1: (Cannot choose along with Isolated) You are not well taken care of by anyone, your form will deteriorate with time if this is not amended.

Violent -1: Gargoyle has a tendency to partake in the overkill whenever possible. Executions tend to be much messier.

Aggressive -2: Gargoyle has a tendency to be aggressive towards villagers and monsters alike.

Leaking Aura -2: Your magical nature leaks from your form. Most humans are not privy, however it unnerves and startles animals.

Beacon -2: Monsters of all sorts are drawn to your town due to your presence, this implies that there will be more to feed from, more to kill to protect.. However, you will be considered bad luck should you fail in your guardianship.

Isolated -2: You have been installed in a place not too often frequented. You cannot listen to the whispers of villagers by day, nor do they see you enough to become superstitious and scared. Monsters become harder to discern due to lack of whispers, you are prone to neglect, and the very same monsters may stumble upon your lair..

Guardian of the Seal -3: You do not only guard a simple village, you guard the location where a long dead Necromancer has been sealed. Monsters

The beauty of being revered by people is that we'll probably be able to sort out good relations with the villagers. Then, we might quickly find out if there's a monster interfering in their dreams faster, and kill it to try and get the trait.

It helps to be a marble humanoid that can talk. And the wings may not be that great, but hiding them may be an option.

Traits there are those among here that may certainly be acquired in your guardianship.

Night-form 4: Your form changes during the night. Your enemies and dependents will not recognize you from day to night.

Siren Song 4: Taken from sirens, the Gargoyle has the ability to calm humans by singing. By day, previously affected humans will hear it and feel relaxed. ** May be misconstrued as witchcraft. **

Soul Siphon 4 Points: Absorbing the souls of the murdered yields more "Sustenance."
-exp increase.
-"Power Pick" from Powerful Souls. You will select three traits from a powerful soul and then have attain one of those traits based on chance.

Gifted from Afar 3 points - You have been given to the church as a gift from someone rich. You can either be stored away or be on full display, depending on the clergy that is taking care of you. You are often under constant observation - while you will be taken care of, you can't risk breaking the illusion of being an immobile statue. (if neglect or Isolated are taken, you are stored away instead.)
>>
Wings 3 Points: You have been carved with wings large enough to fly.

Unnatural 2 points: There's something... odd... about you, that makes everyone around you feel uneasy, even when they're not aware of you. You can more easily channel dark magic, but everyone gets a bad feeling even before you enter the scene.

Speech 2: You begin with the ability to speak. This may be acquired later, my dear creation.

So, you shall be given the wings of an angel, and a voice to match! Your body will be that of a man, though immaculate.

You are cut from Marble and have learned the secrets of shadows to move without attracting or arousing much suspicion.

You are neglected by your townsfolk they are superstitious in the practice of keeping a gargoyle, however they are not keen on your upkeep, though some look up to you and revere your magnificence.

You are placed upon the outskirts of town, atop the steeple of an old, now rarely visited church.

It is currently day and you are inanimate. You sense a small body near the grounds of the church, alone, and... sad? If you focus more closely on it, you might be able to listen.

From the old church, you can see that the town is awfully small, yet you feel close to it. You awoke with this place at the beginning of your life, and you feel an urge to... protect it.

You can only feel presences so far, yet you can see much of the town.

The day is soon coming to an end...

Either way, see if we can find out what's making it sad.
>>
Appear before the kid.

In a thunderous voice, ask "WHAT TROUBLES YOU, PUNY HUMAN CHILD?"
Just kidding don't do that.
>>
You focus on the small life-form and you can feel it's sadness ever so slightly. The small heaves as it draws a sad, sobbing breath. The tremble of its small, scared form.. is it fear?

You make out words... Your maker had taught you to listen, that had come with speaking... Yes.. Speaking.. That's what it is doing.

"Oh... *hic* God... Where did you take mommy? Daddy said that she's with you in heaven... Why did you take mommy?"

It keeps saying that, what a sad little creature. . .

You feel a larger presence come forth from the road.

"Molly? Molly? Whe- there you are! Come on Molly, you can't spend all afternoon at church, your teacher gave you homework, didn't she?"

The voice is gruff, and masculine. You feel the presence's eyes upon you for a moment.

"Geeze, why'd we have to get one? We've been doing just fine setting this place up... I swear, these things, Angel or demon... Give me the creeps... Molly!"

"Y-yes daddy!" The small body gets closer to the larger one. You can see them both now. A large man and a small girl. Perhaps they are Father and Daughter? The mother... is gone?

"D-daddy.. God won't say anything.. You've heard God before, right?"

"God can't hear you all the time Molly, He's a busy man."

In silence, you observe the pair a while longer.

"Molly, are you still having those dreams?"

The small one does not respond.
"Molly?"

"Y-yes." An answer is choked out.

"The one where-"

"Y-yes Daddy... the one w-where mommy..."

"Shhh, shhh, it's ok... When God talks to you, ask him if mommy's doing well, alright?"

"Uh, huh. I'll do it..."

The two walk off down the road until you can no longer sense them.

You scan the horizon of the town.

The face of the church sees the East, so you can only feel the sun setting upon your back as you look over the front of the church.

As you had noted before, the town is fairly small... Yet it is your current home..

The Town has another church in the center, facing east as well as is traditional. The church is the town center and right next to the square.

The town is currently paved in crude cobblestones.

There is little lighting at night as there are very few lanterns installed in the street.

The town is close to a lake that feeds into a river, giving the people fish and trade. The rest of this frontier town is surrounded by thick woods.

Nothing seems amiss from so far... During your hunt in the night, you will need to scour the area.

Nothing new comes your way, so you rest until nightfall.

Awakening in the darkness, you move about from your position near the steeple, stretching your marble form and examining your well-crafted angelic wings.

Start from the town centre and fly in a circle pattern around the town, expanding outwards.

It's a small town, we should be ably to give it a sweep for anything obvious or in the open an short order.

You step into the empty air before you, dropping down slowly with your wings extended. Touching the ground with grace, you open the door to the abandoned church carefully, observing the effigy of Christ nailed to a cross.

Humans are such odd creatures a part of you wonders. To revere the suffering of another one such as themselves...

You investigate the insides of the church, determining to find something to cover up your marble form.

Take the sheet, we'll put it back if we can.

Investigate the church further. See if you can hear or sense the inhabitants, if there's a live-in priest in the rectory, but try not to disturb anyone.
>>
You do not detect anyone within the confines of the church, yet you remain careful in not making too much noise.

Examining the inside of the church, you see that many of the pews are covered in dust and cobwebs, the stained glass windows don't show an image beside a good layer of dust, and many of the boards tend to creak when walked upon.

You do find a walking staff after some examination around the abandoned living quarters. made of wood, it feels good.... yet brittle in your marble hands.

You take a further look around, examining various items closely.

You see a few books dropped onto the floor of a small room, likely a study.
The books read,
"The Holy Bible"
"God and Magic"
And then a scarlet red one...,"Magic Bound in Blood."

You find many places where things should be, only they have been removed, likely moved to the new church.

You find a fallen candle-holder in one of the pews. It's overall length makes it quite similar to a staff. One end has four prongs for standing, the other, a nice little cup for a candle.

You can take it with you or leave it.

What's the candle-holder made of?
If it's out of wood, we can use it as a staff. If it's metallic, it'd draw attention to us.

We could use the sheet as a cover, so let's take it.

After that, return on patrol.
>>
>>23817606
We should really get to patrolling. Who knows what could be out there? We can examine the books and perhaps clean the church later.

>>
>>23817606
Take sheet, patrol.
>>
>>23817658
Ah. We should leave it behind, then.

Anyway, just curious, could we perhaps later on upgrade the church or something?
That'd help us in learning more about those we need to protect, since a nice church would attract more people.
>>
>>23817683

You can restore this church if you'd like. I'm leaving it available to you guys.
>>
>>23817706
Right on, we might do that if it seems like a good idea.

Hopefully the priests at the new church are nice to us.
>>
You decide to leave the candleholder alone, yet take up the dirty sheet.

After beating some of the dust out of it against one of the pews, you wrap it over your form like a cloak.

You feel a need to get on with your duty and head out of the church, closing the door behind you.

With your humanoid form, you slip down into the town from the hillside church. Opening your ability to sense life, you are not surprised by many of the humans in this town sleeping.

Your footsteps on the cobblestone are silent due to your knack at such subtlety.

You sense the presence of two forms on the street, and near the town square, moving at a steady, yet slow pace.

In the distance you hear a resounding howl that may chill you to the bone if you actually had any.

The life signatures paused when you heard the howl.

>>
>>23817790
And afterward, we'll keep patrolling and investigate the howling.
>>
>>23817766
Assess what the two in the street are doing, if they're town guard or vagabonds or something else (unlikely). Then, investigate the woods.
>>
You pull up your make-shift cloak and close in on the two life-signatures. Finding it odd that that anyone would simply be walking around this night... after getting close to the two of them, you duck into a dark spot between lanterns and cast a spell to conceal yourself.

"Townsguard... Oi, I should have stuck wit' me family and been a farmer... This is bloody terr'fyin. Been hear'n the howls... Hear'n... wolves get closer to us... Yes, they're just wolves.."

The other signature closes in on the one under your supervision," Hey,. what're y' doin' while out on patrol?!"

"Clear'n me head, sir!"

"Dom't sir me you damn brat, just make sure that all the streets are accounted for... I've got to keep this torn safe, right?"

"Right!" Both signatures walk with renewed vigor, parting ways.

You slink off after they leave, cutting through an alley-way. With a look at the wall of a building, to your own hands, it makes you wish you had claws to scale this... Oh well, you can do it, right?

After some time of using your wings to get yp top, you find that you have a decent view of the are once more.

Homing in on the small girl's presence, you find that she's in a house with a dark red roof. It's a simple house, and right across the Town Square from the church.

You adjust your cloak so that your wings have room to fly properly and take to the air, the cloth and your wings making a bit of noise as you fly.

You note that the presences from before stop, likely to take note of the noise you're making on this quiet night.

You land near the side of the house, away from the window to avoid prying eyes. With a peek, you see that Molly kneels by her bed, with a single candle for light. Her eyes are closed and she seems to be saying something.

She stops speaking, and with a peak, you catch that she's looking up.

You feel that her father is asleep, and her neighbors are as well.

The two presences from before seem to be heading in your direction, although slowly.

Another distant howl rings through the darkness of the town, another replies, and a couple more echo.

There's a distant scream from the direction of your dilapidated church.

Setting yourself for the direction of the church, your flight is furious to come to the defense of whomever it may be.

You sense no life anywhere in the vicinity of your church. It seems that the ghostly woman is the source of the screams... You remain atop the church for the moment, watching the woman carefully.

As the mist rolls down the hills, she slowly advances, moving as though she's floating.

You cannot abide by this, you cannot let this creature pass.

You wing yourself down into her path of mist, spreading your wings wide from your dirty cloak.

The woman gives pause to her "march," slowly removing her hands from her eyes, she regards your form, tilting her head slightly.

You shout with the voice of god or perhaps demon that your master bestowed upon you," You... Shall not pass!"

The woman wails out into the night before screaming at you, different from all the other times. You feel your form vibrate and threaten to break apart at the force and frequency of the scream.

You bring your wings down in front of you to assist you in bearing the assault of her lengthy scream.

You make some steps towards her, still feeling your form ripple and still only threaten to break.

With some time, the scream finally ends and the apparition stares at you with sad, red eyes.
Moving back into a more regal and forthright position, you feel cracks in your body that the scream inflicted... They should repair themselves in the next day.

"Baen se! I am the watcher and guardian of these people. I bear you no ill will, woman of the sidhe, but I cannot let you harm those under my protection. Please... Leave!"

The banshee advances forward at your voice, her mouth slightly agape as she draws another breath, you hear a whisper," Need... their life... Hungry.."

She doesn't seem to be listening, though it seems that she can speak...

>[] Continue to reason with the creature. (Write in)
>[] Strike at the ghost.
>[] Flee for her next scream.
>[] Use Cloak of Shadows to escape.
>[] (Other)
>>
>>23821919
>[] Strike at the ghost.

She is driven to feed. We musn't let her. End her now.
>>
>>23821919
Try to reason with her again.
"Woman of the sidhe! I repeat again - I will not let you harm those who have taken cover under my wings. I do not wish to fight you, but if you continue, I will do whatever is in my power to stop you. So listen to me - I offer you a deal. I will give you the lives of the wolves attacking my flock, if you leave this place and never return."
>>
>>23821968
Why would you try to reason again...?

>> Need... their life... Hungry.."

She cant help it, she will kill them all. Destroy her
>>
>>23821998
We're shaped like an angel, aren't we?
We offer salvation with one hand while keeping the other on the hilt of our flaming sword.
If she will not listen to reason, she will listen to power.

Also, if she accepts, we can take care of both her and the wolves at the same time.
Unless we ran into a werewolf.
>>
>>23821919
Time to strike. There's no point in attempting to reason, and as a protector of the village it would be best to keep our flock safe by not allowing her to escape and perhaps return one evening.
>>
>>23822015
We are shaped in a humanoid form with wings. We aren't an angel, we are a gargoyle. There is a difference.
>>
>>23822015
Not to mention, angels aren't all about pussy footing around. Many angels simple smite and destroy evil and threats. There is even an angel with that *specific* job
>>
>>23822030
I know that. Still, we can be angelic if we want to.
Then again, we can also be a body snatching, soul devouring, dream walker.
And there's nothing stopping us from striking on her from behind.
>>
>>23822052

Here here, we are not some bloodthirsty cretin. We reason with the creature, mercy is offered before the sword is grasped.
>>
>>23822093
Mercy has foolish been offered. Now is the time to strike.
>>
>>23822093
Pick up thine sword and smite this foul wretch who dares tread upon that which is ours.
>>
You step in, before the woman has a chance to scream you apart, and deliver a righteous palm into her abdomen, the blow passes through her, and you stumble to keep yourself from falling due to the lack of a solid thing to strike.

You turn to see that she recoiled slightly from your blow and holds her body in a slightly pained fashion. Your physical form did nothing to her, but the magic that moves you seems capable of at least touching her.

The woman floats around you, backing off into the graveyard, she unleashes a shriek and ghostly children begin crawling out of the mist, desolate red eyes regarding you as they defend their "Mother."

The mist begins to thicken around you, and a howl rings back from the town.

The wolves are on the prowl.

>[] Enter the church, perhaps something inside can assist you?
>[] Continue to wage battle on the Banshee and her children!
>[] Retreat from the Banshee, you must deal with the wolves!
>[] (Other)
>>
>>23822157
>>Enter the church, see if we can find a bowl of holy water. Churches usually have a largish bowl of that on hand. Perhaps it will help?
>>
>>23822186

It's a deserted church. There's nothing like that left.
>>
>>23822157
Wasn't there a long, stafflike candle holder and a copy of the Holy Bible in there earlier? It's not much but perhaps we could do something with those.
>>
>>23822209
Well shit.
>>
>>23822157

Alea Iacta Est.

Slay the beast, lest it bring ruin to us and this town!
>>
>>23822227
I must agree. Let us do battle and remove this blight from our lands. It seems we are able to cause pain, so let us continue to provide suffering.
>>
>>23822221

Yes, you did find those things.
>>
Protect.... Villagers...
>>
>>23822259

Wolves may be stopped by the guards.

This creature is far more, something only we can stop.

The only recourse is violent, decisive action.
>>
Kill....
>>
>>23822277

Hush now, we are a guardian, NOT a predator.

We must nurture the better angels of our nature.
>>
All creatures have baser instincts... You included
>>
>>23822275
This. The guards can deal with a small wolf incursion, if there was one. The creature we're facing down now is obviously supernatural and malignant, at that.
>>
>>23822319

It will take more to wear me down than you.
>>
>>23822157
>get bible and candle holder
>impale banshe to the ground using the candle stick
>smash its face with a fistful of bible
>>
Fuck fuck fuck.
We messed up, didn't we?

Go to the villagers, help as much as you can.
The banshee moves slowly, we can prevent unnecessary deaths and still make it to stop this bitch.
Grab that candle holder and hurry to the village.
>>
>>23822355
Conviction, friend.

If we spend all night running between two threats look a confused dog we will do no good at all.
>>
>>23822420
Indeed, lay your fears to rest. This cowardly beats is no match for our might.
>>
Your instincts scream at you to deal with the wolves down in the village, yet you have a malevolent force before you to deal with as it is.

The Banshee moves slowly, and you manages to cause it at least some pain as it is now. The mist surrounds you completely, impairing your vision.

A child-like apparition leaps from the mists, mouth open and aiming to bite you with razor sharp little teeth.

You react, naturally moving out of the way and swiftly dealing a blow to the back of the creature's neck, only feeling air as it convulses slightly from your magical touch Another flies at you, and the struck one begins to get up. You spin, wings wide, battering them away with some of the ethereal mist.

Your attacks seem to do only minor damage to their ethereal forms, only batting them away or causing them a bit of pain. They remain whole and unphased.

You find yourself wishing you had a weapon of some sort, claws, magic, or anything that could aid you in this seemingly futile skirmish.

You have lost sight of the Banshee in the mist, you see only her suckling babes.

The snarls of wolves are heard in the town, mixed with their whines and the screams of men. At a far greater distance, a howl greater than all the others rings out.

>[] Search for some kind of weapon.
>[] Seek out the banshee, she's their source.
>[] Flee from this battle and aid the villagers.
>[] (Other)
>>
>>23822436
>>23822420
Fine, then. I still say that we need to get that candle holder as a weapon, perhaps check out that bible for some blessing that'd deal holy damage to these monsters.
>>
Ahem, this is where you find out that this gargoyle has very low natural combat abilities.

All gargoyles are stronger than men, yet the creatures of the night can be stronger still or are weakened by particular materials.
>>
>>23822525
What are our powers, again? Stealth and soul siphon?
>>
>>23822543
We got wings and speech.
>>
>>23822543

>>
>>23822471
get the bible and candle holder as a weapon, maybe the silver end could do some damage or even reading a passage from the bible even?
>>
>>23822525
get the silver candle holder, silver is traditionally a great weapon against the supernatural, especially ethereal enemies.
>>
With a tumble, you disengage from the children of the sidhe, opening the doors to the dilapidated church with your unnatural strength. Rooting about the church as the mist and the children creep in, you find the candle-staff that you had found earlier, the top tipped with silver, the four "feet" capped the same, and along the whole of it, tarnished metal. One of the children leap at you as you retrieve the makeshift weapon from the pews. You swing the pole at the creature and see that it goes down, screaming. The tarnished metal of the staff seems to bear glowing with the creature's residual essence.

Hearing the pain of her child, the Banshee floats into the dark church, the only illumination being the glow of her own mist and body.

Taking a deep "breath", she wails into the church, causing the wood to splinter, you defend once more with a wing, feeling cracks begin to run through it.

At the end of the assault, her other children attack you in a frenzy and you swing the staff, knocking more around that go to the ground hissing, screaming, and vanishing. The banshee's beautiful face, contorts and she rushes in, screaming out words this time," MY BABIES!!!"

With a swift swing of your newfound weapon, she goes down writhing.

>[] Offer the creature pardon in exchange for her leave.
>[] Finish the witch and absorb her soul.
>[] Other

You hear that thunderous howl once more, and from the town.
>>
>>23822471

I say we should aid the villagers. They may be superstious, but an "angel" saving their lives in the dead of night may work in our favour. We Do have speech, so we can reason with them. And the only two people awake are the patrol, so there would not be mass hysteria.

I wish I was here earlier. I have no idea why people wanted to go see Molly. I was voting for the woods/howls. Werewolves ain't no joke.
>>
>>23822864

Lol nevermind.

I vote pardon. Only because it may be Molly's mother and there may be a way we can use her later to gain a caretaker. The only thing we would be absorbing would be a little exp, but we can get that from the wolves if WE WOULD HURRY UP AND DO OUR JOB.
>>
>>23822864
I say we finish the banshee, absorb her spirit, and quickly move on towards the howls and the screams coming townwards. Keep the silver staff on hand, however, we may need it tonight and on nights to come.
>>
>>23822864
We already gave her a chance, finish and absorb
>>
>>23822941

To mention, in taking the soul of a powerful creature such as her, you would have the option of either converting to exp or rolling to gain a negative or positive trait relevant to the creature.
>>
>>23822864
"Do you hear me now, women of the sidhe? I offered you a chance to leave and never return, but you didn't listen. This pains me, but you are a threat to those I am protecting, and so, I have no other choice. Forgive me."
Finish her quickly, absorb her soul, and head to the village. Keep the silver and the bible at hand.
