You work out some of your frustrations on the bag which is, as of yet, still intact. You head down to the kitchen to start thinking about what nice thing you want to do for your dad. You get a nice big drink of water while you're down there.

What nice thing are you going to do?
>>
>>23793405
Give him a handjob.
>>
>>23793459
no Liz would not like that plus it would just teas that he couldn't fuck us.
>>
Does anybody actually have any idea of what we can do for him?

Sex is out, his duties as far as maintaining the tower we can't really give him a break.

He can probably cook a million times better than us. I get it's the thought that counts, but mushcakes aren't exactly stellar.
>>
>>23793459
Nope.
>>
>>23793514

Get him a baseball and a pair of Mitts, he may not have been around to play catch with us as a kid, but that doesn't excuse him of the requirement.

and the chance to do something that he had previously missed out on should make him feel better.
>>
It sucks, but we might actually want to ask Lin if she has any ideas, she's spent more time chatting with him than we have, since they have all those historical stories we weren't around for to bond over.

I don't think anything fancy is in order. Lets just spend some time with him. I propose we make some smoothies or something and go play with him and Selene. When she gets too tired we can just talk to him for a bit. Get to know him better. Tell him about our life before the scholomance.

we could cook something it is more the thought that counts.

We can alcamize him a tie it is the symbolic bad fathers day gift and if he gets the joke he will know we love him but dont know what he wants.
The pattern on the tie can be I love you Dad in the word.
>>
>>23793538
Well how about this.

We could suggest taking a father daughter vacation somewhere together, after the Paris trip.

His choice where he wants to go.
>>
>>23793405
Guys. He wanted to FUCK his DAUGHTER. Not exactly number 1 dad stuff here.
>>
>>23793538
But he has to constantly refresh the wards. He can't go on a long vacation.

The people saying make him something, take a look at what just happened with the collar. Look at our strain values. Nothing's getting made fast.
>>
>>23793569
Isn't he planing to play with Lin once Mulan ends and Breakfast can watch Selene? You seriously want to cockblock dad tonight?
>>
>>23793607
and Max kind of wanted to fuck him, remember, he is an incubus, and apparently that stuff is more common in incubus families. We can't really fault him for it.
>>
>>23793607
To be fair his daughter also wants to fuck him and he and his daughter are both sex demons
>>
>>23793602

If we can find a way to keep the wards up while he's gone, I think this is a very good idea.
>>
>>23793615
To be honest, I think he'd probably enjoy spending time with us over giving Lin the dick.

He can do that whenever, and his relationship with Max is clearly very important to him.
>>

something praising him is condescending but something that is in the pure I love you vain like >>23793586 or >>23793581 may work.
>>
>>23793602
This is a good idea, we could even suggest working on summoning and binding a more powerful spirit to the wards so he can go on vacation as a shared activity.
>>
>>23793641
Easiest way is to bind a powerful Spirit entity. Any of our classmates meet that description?

You decide to bake cookies for your dad. After all, what better to have for discussions? Beers, maybe, but you don't exactly have time to make beer.

Important question, though.

Do you cook with a recipe, measuring, and planning, or do you cook with love, soul, and by taste?

You end up cooking to taste using the ingredients you have on hand. The result is a full plate of soft, crisp, buttery sugar cookies. They turn out great. You take the plate and climb down to Selene's room, where your dad, Lin, and Selene are still watching cartoons together. When you walk in, Selene turns towards you, sniffs the air a few times, and asks, "Wat dose, mama?"

What do you tell her?

"They're cookies. I made them to apologize to grandpa for hurting his feelings," you explain. "If you ask him really nicely, he might let you have one, though."

Selene immediately turns to her grandfather. "Pleeease can I grandpa?"

"Okay, sure," he says, smiling at both of you. "Go ahead."

Selene runs up smiling, grabs a cookie, and sinks her teeth into it. As she chews it, her face quickly goes from a look of excitement to a look of disgust. She sticks her long-ass tongue out, still covered in half-chewed cookie, and says, "It's bad! It's really bad!" She starts pawing at her tongue, trying to clean it all off.

"I guess maybe cookies aren't for you, don't worry sweetie, I'll get you some burger later."

Hopefully Selene's bad review won't put Dimitri off.
>>
>>23795342
Yeeeeaaaaaah. Ask her if she'd like a burger instead.

I really hope this is just her dryadness and not us accidentally dropping a gymsock in the batter.
>>
>>23795342
Try one ourselves to make sure, and not just that Selene doesn't find cookies to be edible.
>>
>>23795342
Get her some fertilizer water.
>>
>>23795342
Mmm, I guess she just doesn't like anything non-meat. Oh well.
>>
>>23795342
Aww, I'm sorry honey, that's because you're a little different from me and grandpa, want me to make you a hamburger to make up for it?
>>
>>23795342
"Sorry sweety, looks like I'll have to make something special for my special little girl."
>>
>>23795342
Tell her not to be so rude, but say it nicely.
>>
>>23795391
This works for me.

>Limiting yourself to one weapon.
>Needing a handful of bound elementals rather than one.

The dice are fickle, a simple machine has less things that can go wrong.

I imagine that rolling a 1 with the original idea would cause a portable hole inside a portable hole type explosion due to the number of portals + all the complex alchemical thingamabobs.
>>
>>23795398
Don't say that. If something tastes really bad to her she should tell us so we aren't forcing her to eat things she hates.
>>
>>23795342
looks like I will need to make you some special cookies want to help?

do what we just did but add some blood instead of butter that should help them hold together
>>
>>23795431
That wouldn't work, and we'd need a ton of blood. We'll get her some meat when we're done making up with dad.
>>
>>23795398
I wouldn't scold her on this one. She's not being mean, the food just doesn't agree with her.
>>
>>23795342
I just realized that if everything goes to plan Selene will be one classy lady. Then when a guy asks her out to dinner and she says yes she'll order the biggest steak the restaurant has rare. Then eat the whole thing. None of the I'll just have a salad foolery her dates reaction will be hilarious.
>>
>>23795431
Before even attempting this, does she even eat plant? I think her diet is UV light, mineral rich water and meat.
>>
>>23795464
And then she'll drain her date twice on the way home.
>>
>>23795431
That won't work. That's not how cookies or blood work. And there's other ingredients she doesn't like in them.
>>
>>23795464
>Guy
Selene will be dating women if she plans on taking advantage of her incubus powers.

And then peg him at the end of the date.
But its more likely to be what >>23795540 said and she will take after us and be the man in the relationship.
>>
>>23795540
Like her sisters?
>>
>>23795540
That is of course assuming she ever gets over her dryad crush on Max.
>>
>>23795540
I'm sure given her physiology that she has the potential to want to fiddle around with either gender.
>>
>>23795561
I'm kind of hoping Selene will attempt to emulate Max, and when the sisters are all grown up, she will assert herself as the Dom of the three.
>>
>>23795458
you only use to sticks of butter thats less than 1/2 a cup its not much at all

It would totally work ?

>>23795431
do this

>>23795512
do you even bake/cook butter is a binder to make everything stick together

blood works the same way hence gravy just bake it at like 280 instead of 350 take the time up to like 22-25 minuets shit would be fine for our vamp/incubus/dryad daughter
>>
>>23795566
In fact, if she ever gets over that dryad crush of hers, she might potentially fuck every person in the tower at some point or another.
>>
>>23795574
It's gonna be funny because I assume she will be the smallest when fully grown.
>>
>>23795342
Well, I would suggest we take her up to the kitchen and teach her how to make a spiced meat dish (I have a very specific form of meatballs in mind but can't remember if the recipe is purely carnivorous). She'd probably enjoy helping mommie cook. Hell, we could ask dad to help if we want to get in more family time.
>>
>>23795586
Well the tower does kind of promote that mindset.
>>
>>23795473
She has had bacon which is smoked and ham-steak which is usually cured in a surgery brine. But i dont know maybe we should make meat loaf with breadcrumbs and egg and see if she likes that.

>>23795460
>>23795458
>>23795431
If we make her cookies lets thaw a fer ounces of hamburger mix in about a table spoon of sugar and a dash of vanilla and pan fry it for her that is a Selene cookie.
>>
>>23795592
Of course, the scene where she ties up, spanks and fucks the musclegirl jotunn/druegr dryad twice her size will be glorious!
>>
>>23795593
We should actually let dad try the cookies first, rather than running straight off for more Selene-time mid making up with him.
>>
"Oh, it's okay, sweetie," you say, helping to wipe her tongue off. "I'll make something else for you later." You finish off the cookie she had just a bite of, just to be sure. It tastes fine; she must just have an even stricter diet than you though. "You want one, dad?" you ask.

"Sure, Max," he says, walking over to take one. He takes a bite and smiles at you. "It's really good. Thanks for making these." You get the impression that he's more trying to express that he isn't mad at you over before than that he's necessarily happy to have cookies.

What do you do now?
>>
>>23795646
Read the last sentence.
>>
>>23795592
I don't know i think the Jotun dwarf will be as smart but more bookish and mechanically inclines where as Selene is a socialite.
>>
>>23795676
I said smallest, not smartest.
>>
You know, when you think about this Quest, the most minor questions have the most major results.

For example, if you remember back to when we first got the Dryad seeds, it was a fluke. Fem wasnt even planning to have the Dryad die until people started worrying that she would. Or you think back to Quest I, when we picked the random girl in the back over the flight attendant or whoever. Fem later said that each of them were special, so we defined the story with that choice.

Just food for thought, I suppose.
>>
>>23795669
Suggest that the two of you could work on summoning up and binding something powerful enough to keep the wards going indefinitely tomorrow.
>>
>>23795669
ask if he wants to help us and Selene invent a cookie she can eat.
>>
>>23795669

Nod and smile. "Well, I figured you deserved something nice. You've helped all of us out so much, and don't get a lot back. I was thinking about the two of us going out sometime to try and remedy that fact; got someplace you want to go, but haven't had the chance to?"

Yeah, he's a fucking ancient fallen angel, but maybe he's never been to Disneyland or something.

Thanks for being here, Dad. And then hug and no boner, damnit.

Being able to roll with unexpected and minor events and turn them into interesting parts of the plot is one of the most valuable skills a GM/quest runner can have.
>>
>>23795705
Most of your choices, even the seemingly trivial ones, have had an impact on where you are now. I feel like that's pretty much the only way to not-railroad. Not sure, though. Thoughts?
>>
>>23795669
Suggest sorting out a permanent power source for the wards, and then the two of you taking a day trip out somewhere in a couple of weeks.

Anywhere he wants.
>>
>>23795723
You and I both know that Selene's ideal cookie is made of ammonium nitrate and bacon. We don't need help to figure that out
>>
>>23795744
Zero railroading results in retarded quests which burn out under the weight of their own LOLRANDUM.

Too much railroading makes people abandon the quest as they feel that their choices don't matter, and they needn't be there.

Since neither has happened, I think you're doing just fine.
>>
>>23795744
Keep being awesome, that is what I think.
>>
>>23795744

Maybe not the only way, but definitely the way that gives us the greatest agency within the world. Thanks for doing this for us and providing such great fun.
>>
>>23795705
Really doubt we'll be able to, and it sounds like the kind of thing that he'd just call too dangerous, but we should offer to help with setting up a more permanent power source.

well life is like that though this exaggerates it due to conservation of detail. It seems to work. I doubt it is the ONLY way to not railroad but it is one way and it is hard but straightforward.

Maple bacon.

She clearly doesn't like some of the stuff in cookies, maybe we could just kind of eliminate bits of it by having her taste a little sugar, butter, etc., and see what ingredients she rejects.
>>
>>23795831
That is one of them but another is that to do that you are virtually guaranteed to take the challenge out of the game. Even if the players want what they get. This way makes you work for it.

>>23795895
I think all the not meat will be rejected in isolation like most people hate straight vinegar but will use it in things.

Just bacon, she didn't react well to the cookies, so I think we should leave out sugar.
>>
>>23795930
I get that, I can't eat sour cream unless it's been well blended as an ingredient, like in beef stroganoff. But what we have right now is "this combination of ingredients doesn't taste good to her" and no idea why.

You give your dad a big hug. "Thank you so much for being here for me," you tell him.

"It's no trouble at all, Max," he reassures you. "Really."

"Hey, I had an idea," you suggest. "What if we collected a whole ton of foci tomorrow and made a point of summoning a truly powerful spirit to run the tower's wards? That way you wouldn't need to keep stopping what you're doing and summoning new spirits all the time."

"That could be a good idea," he agrees. "If it's going to be a powerful spirit, though, it should be one whose true name we know. The powerful ones are almost never mindless, so it's good to be able to keep them from resisting. The idea I've been playing around with, though, is making an entire spiritual ecosystem inside of the powering circle - one with enough minor spirits that, as long as we make sure the ecosystem is balanced and healthy, none of them will be permanently damaged by the drain. Think of it like a fish tank or terrarium for spirits. I'm not sure if it will actually work in practice, but it's an idea I'm really interested in."

What do you say?
>>
>>23795731
There will be boners when both individuals are attracted to each other.

All the boners.
>>
>>23796002
And they just passed a law that's causing Magpul to give the state a huge middle finger and find a new state to locate itself in.
>>
>>23796010

Fuckawesome idea! So sort of a sun-spirit providing power to some plant spirits, each of which contributes a little bit of power to the wards? I like it!
>>
>>23796010
That sounds really interesting, and would be good conjuration practice for Max.

Tell him his idea sounds great, and we want to help him set it up.
>>
>>23796010
"Oooohhh, that's even better. Any books you think we'll need on the idea?"
>>
>>23796010

(think a moment)"We should try summoning Saburo back. If we got him, then we have a better guess he's REALLY gone. But if he's NOT....?"
(pause, beat)"...are you really okay binding someone else down there?"
>>
Not only does the spirit fishtank sound cool it also feels way less unethical than binding an intelligent powerful spirit to serve as a crappy magic battery for eternity. Let's do it.
>>
>>23796010
"Also, I really like that idea. I bet the librarian can help with that.... any idea what she actually WANTS? aside from, ahem, a good dicking?"
>>
>>23796083
Indeed, considering that Max is a potential battery for some other asshole using conjuration, and she knows it, she should probably be reluctant to bind intelligent spirits if she has a choice.
>>
>>23796010
that sounds like something lunch was using to power her base.
>>
>>23796010
Well unless he knows the true name of a powerful spirit off-hand, that's probably better. Won't we have to create the whole ecosystem all at once though?

>>23796031
Yeah, but what can you do? Emotional gun control nuts are everywhere.

Would it just be her normal name or does she have some sort of spirit name?
>>
>>23796010
Great idea. Much better than imprisioning one of my aunts.
>>
>>23796091
We didn't get much Jotun, but we did get a full duergar femur, we should have a bunch of that left, I think.

But we should be careful about handing out bribes until we really need to. We got the sensory possession book by getting her sympathy, for example.

I just don't want to waste a potential bribe and end up in the position of sex with a woman THE incubus shuddered at the memory of.
>>
>>23796010
Lets make a fish tank also lets ask about whether we have a true name and away from Liz and Selene ask how to find it or what it is.
>>
>>23796160
We can pick her up some fancy wine when we're in Paris.
>>
>>23796179
I think we should just stockpile a cabinet with the sign "BRIBES" on it so everybody can pocket something to carry there just in case they need to gift her something for her cooperation.
>>
>>23796179
And dad can pick up 2 book scanners when he goes shopping.
>>
>>23796179
Also when we return books but dont need anything new we should bring her things like fresh home maid bread and cookies to show we care but not actually spend anything.

Yes, because us knowing our true name would have been very useful if we'd been successfully kidnapped by a spirit binder. Or anyone who can read minds.
>>

>>23796179
we should also revisit that emergency sanctuary we found in the library and set it up as such with liz one day. the books in there could be worth something if we fix them.

>>23796228
yes do this. asap that way we can scan the dryad book
>>
>>23796258
well we could do another Blood oath to never tell anyone our true name because of the effects of mind control or mind reading. Then no one can find that out. Plus i dont see how that could come back to bite us.

The spirit fishtank idea sounds awesome. Let's give it a go.
>>
>>23796160
>But we should be careful about handing out bribes until we really need to. We got the sensory possession book by getting her sympathy, for example.

Actually, she wanted to see the spell we came up with - if we give it to her, we can build up our rapport with her, and maybe get on her good side to the point where the word Bribe doesn't come up EVERY time the word 'librarian' does.
>>
>>23796179

This is a fantastic idea.

We could bring her some cookies, too.
>>
"I really like the idea of the spiritual ecosystem," you say. "But would we need to summon them all at once?"

"No," your dad replies. "We would summon them one at a time and keep them bound in the inbound summoning circle. They would stay inert until it was time to release them into the power circle. That way we would know we would have enough of each type for it to be both balanced and thrive."

"Huh. That makes sense," you say. "How many of these would we need to put together?"

"Oh, no more than a few hundred minor spirits to get it started," he says casually.

"A few hundred?" you ask. You had hoped that you would be able to set this up in one day.

"Well, yes," he says. "For proper environmental diversity. Probably about half of those will go extinct in the circle in the first year, but that should be about the amount we need to guarantee its balance. Most of them will be extremely minor, mindless spirits. The most significant will be small, barely-aware spiritual predators that eat the stationary ones. Probably the trickiest to get will be a minor solar spirit - the largest too, though completely mindless."

"And you've never done anything like this before?" you ask.

"Strictly speaking, no," he says. "I've never worked to tailor spiritual environments outside of the dream web before. So, what do you think? Should I get started on it?"

What do you say?

>>
"I can help, right?" you ask.

"Of course, Max," he says. "This will be helpful for me in designing the spiritual ecosystem - but the repeated summonings should be incredibly useful for you in learning more Conjuration. It would make for a nice project to do together when I'm not working on extending the wards or getting ahold of my next granddaughter's fertilizers."

That's where I'm going to end it for tonight. I'm very tired.

I wanted to chime in on this: You've done a fantastic job making sure our actions have consequences - and also keeping track of how one different thing affects others. Its kind of a ripple effect.
Don't stop doing it!

Though i do kind of wish you could reconcile that kind of detail oriented world development with the fetishist blatant disregard for subplots and details - things like following up with the librarian, or making sure our dad's getting the personal time to himself he asked for, or basically any idea for making custom/unique/special foci that's come up in the past ten threads - kind of gets put to the wayside, even as you remind us that being prepared is ESSENTIAL to surviving scholomance. Its like max isn't taking those essential lessons to heart.

I mean, sure, I like what we're doing and making that thing for liz is SUPER sweet and touching, but its not our tattoos or that energy battery, or making gavvy better.

Do you think next timeskip choice we get, that you could give us two entries for Social things and two entries for Mechanical things? Seperate the two a little bit?
