Freak Quest time!

In this quest, you take the role of a big armed, friendly freak, who is currently adventuring with his two friends, a lizard like freak named Joey, and a merchant named Javak and his steed Ivas.

Previous threads can be found here:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=freak+quest

In the last session you arrived at the alleyways, and traded some of your gear with a local merchant, after which you entered a bar of sorts with Joey and Javak.
Javak bought you and Joey some drinks, and told you to wait for him while he attended some business with someone named Char that resided in the upper floor of the bar. You chatted with the bartender, trying to learn more about various subjects, and also listened to the general chatter going on in the bar. Unfortunately, you seemed to also attract the attention of a creepy mercenary, who kept staring at you and Joey.
Things got even worse, when another, this time more familiar mercenary, entered the bar, and started retelling the incident that happened with your gang and her at the pumping station. This tale angered one of the brutish clan Ultros members, and things started to get quite heated. Thankfully, the argument allowed you and Joey to slip into the staircase to upper floors, and thus hopefully avoid being detected by the familiar mercenary.

>How this works:
Suggest an action and the freak will act. I will try to illustrate it as well as I can. Certain actions will require 1d10 rolls to see if they are successful. There are also slightly more complicated rules for combat:

There are 3 stats, strength, toughness, and agility, in addition to them, there are hitpoints.
All stats are capped at 10, and the baseline hitpoints of a gutterborn freak like the MC are 6.

Attacks are handled like this:
The attacker rolls 2d6.
The first roll is for the attack damage, second for the speed.
Damage: 1d6+str+modifiers (if there are any)- the foe's toughness.
Speed: 1d6+agi

The target of the attack may try to either dodge or block the blow.
Dodge: 1d6+agi vs Attack speed.
Bloc: 1d6+toughness vs attack damage.
Ties go in the favor of the attacker.

These rules are still work in progress, and I appreciate any input on them.

Here is your current inventory:

>2 empty small containers.
>2 full small containers (2 biogel dozes)
>1 medium container with 5 biogel dozes.
>1 strange syringe of unknown purpose.
>Cutting tools.
>Claw arm.
>Improved walking eye bladder.
>1 ration package.
>Bone armor.

You are also equipped with a bone sword.
Joey has the bone knife.

Also introducing the minimap (still work in progress)

You and Joey are currently inside the staircase to the upper floor.
You can hear loud arguments from the bar bellow you and the booming voice of Yzel, the bartender, trying to call his customers down.

Joey is slurping on your drink that you gave to her, and following you contently. It seems that something in the blood drinks that you two had goes to her head, as she seems to be acting somewhat dizzy.

You can't see anyone in the aisle ahead of you, but your viewpoint is quite limited from the stairs.
>>
>>23593610
take point, bony arm forward, and proceed with caution. Joey should stick to the ceiling for surprise back up.

You cautiously enter the second floor.
There doesn't seem to be that much activity here, right now at least.
You can see a small freak waddling in the corridor to your left, and a larger freak, leaning to the wall at front of you. It hasn't noticed you yet, and seems like it is almost asleep.

There is a wall with a closed door at front of you.
To your right, the corridor splits into two paths and a doorway where you can hear some ambiguous mumbling. To your left the corridor also splits into two paths, that curve out of your field of view.

joey can evesdrop on the conversation and stay out of sight, while we wait for the large freak to fal asleep, then we catch up to joey

You are about to tell Joey to move to eavesdrop the conversation coming from the large room to your right, but you suddenly hear a small voice.

"pst! You two...hey, you! You aren't supposed to be here.. Upper floors are restricted to workers and members only.."
>>
Was about to say, today seemed like a slow day for quests!...well it is, only seen freak ques t so far( not counting Succubus Lord Quest wich is simply getting bumped).

You notice the wall drone gesturing a you.
"..explain yourself! Why are you here."
>>23594060

You whisper to him that there is a bar brawl brewing and that you came here to get away from it.
You also ask him what is up here, and if he has seen your friend.

"This is a restricted area gutterspawn! Only paying customers or servants of Char are allowed here! I am the door keeper here, I am responsible for managing who passes trough here. I should raise an alarm on you for trespassing...but..I may allow you to hide here, for a reasonable fee. I may also know where your friend is, but that will also cost you..nothing is free here."
>>
>>23594232
...kay... we got money? or anything that might interest him?
>>

"What do you want?" alternative: if his demand is unreasonable, punch him in the big hole as hard as we can.
>>
>>23594339
...yeaa....no punching...
>>
>>23594295

You present him the stuff you have.
Only the biogel manages to catch his interest.

"Hmm...let's say that I shall allow you to stay here..for 4 dozes of biogel..? I will also reveal where your friend is for another 2?"

Joey frowns as she realizes how much biogel the wall dude is demanding.

"Take it or leave it! I am the master here!" Says the wall freak.

Just ignore him. If he could have summoned help, he would have when we threatened him. Let's just look for our trader pal.
>>

Is it not normally screw ups who get put in the wall. at least that is sort of the impression we got from the last wall freak.
>>
I think we should ignore him. We tried to be polite and trade and he got greedy. Attacking someone on our friends turf is a bad idea so thats out. Maybe ask the guy leaning against the wall in the corner there.
>>

this seems legit

Could Joey's pheromones help in this situation?

Rolled double of the target number!

It only takes few moments for the pheromones to kick in. You can feel them seeping into your mind, and causing you to feel strangely affectionate and compliant towards Joey.
However, it seems that the wall freak is even more affected.
He seems to be extremely confused, and his previous confidence has all but vanished.
"..what..what..is going on?..you..what do you want..I am pleased to meet you..most pleasing indeed."

Joey nods happily to you and says:
"He much more pleassant now..right big friend?"

"Biogel good...helps to cope with pain..they brew the drinks in the brewery..I guard the brewery..I control all doors of this floor...many closed doors.. pleasure chambers..storages..the brewery...drone barracks..so many doors..."

Unfortunately, the extra pheromones seemed to have no effect, and the wall freak begins to regain his coherent mind.

"oh..alright..I will..will grant you passage in these chambers..and tell where your friend is..for 1 doze of biogel...and...if you will smear it on me."
The wall freak points at Joey.
Joey is not very intrigued by the idea.
>>

the freak is still looking pretty drugged up still. What if we ask him to close his eyes as it is more thrilling, then MC uses his little hand.

"Oh..that's it..just smear it over my little wiglets inside my belly..oh yes..."

This whole thing disturbs you deeply.

"..hmmm...yummy.. precious nectar..now..for your pass scent.."

Suddenly, the tentacles inside the belly cavity of the freak convulse and start excreting green slime over your arms.

"Do not forget where your loyalties lie Char! Without us, you could never sustain this place. Do not double cross us!"

"I am not double crossing you! I am just trying to rake in greater profits!"

"Then why are you selling our merchandise to Ultros forces for cheap!"

"I am not selling them so cheap we would be making losses, if that's what you think. I am just offering a discount-.."

"That is not at all what I think. If you were stupid enough to make losses out of our merchandise you would have been replaced long ago! I just want to know the reason why you are offering these "discounts" to our enemies!"

"I..I just thought that.."

>>
You two continue to listen to the argument, waiting for a proper opportunity to announce your presence.

"I..I thought that.."

"What did you think!"

"I thought that if I sold merchandise to Ultros cheaply, he would be less suspicious about my operations, and thus less likely to find out about my deals with your guild."

"Do not forget your place or the purpose of this front operation. You still belong to the Golbax guild, this place has always been ours, even before Ultros rose to power! Your task here is to weaken him, not sell him valuable merchandise cheaply!"

"I just don't understand why your are so averse to his rule..I mean, people of the alleys still come to Yellow Bazaar to trade, and he even allows your caravans to pass trough and trade in the alleys..nothing has really changed.."

"Are you blind?! Before Ultros united the gangs of the alleys under his banner, we made massive profits supplying the warring factions waging for control here! When Ultros rose to power, we lost the war market here, and were faced with Ultros and the despotism of his "vision".

"But still, they still trade at Yellow-.."

>>23599258

"That is irrelevant! Are you really so short sighted to not realize that this isn't about the current markets! This is about long term profits. Do you honestly think that Ultros will stop here? He is a naive fool, who thinks he can change things. He will try to fulfill his "vision" and spread outwards from the alleys, and thus destroying our markets. Nothing ever changes in this city, changes are bad for business. And even if he would stay content at ruling the alleys, he would still set up an example for others of his kind, who think that they can rise up against the system and make their own rules! Ultros and his dream must be extinguished, even more urgently now, as will most likely soon be able to wrestle away the new nectar well from Lienis. We do not want the Great Houses to intervene here!"

"..I see your point.."

"You better, or what do you think will happen to your little brewery when Ultros takes over and expands his ban of utilizing the gutterspawn everywhere? Without our spawn deliveries, you would be out of business already."

"I know that..but.."

"Shut up. Is your task here clear to you? You are to stop selling merchandise to Ultros with discount prices. You will continue supplying rebel groups with gear and merchandise and giving mercenaries incentives to betray Ultros forces if they are hired by them. In exchange, guild Golbax will continue to covertly provide you with support and merchandise, along with regular shipment of gutter spawns. You just keep your cover up. The new Well has already destabilized the situation here considerably."

It seems that their argument has quieted down somewhat.

"My ears tickle more and more!" moans Joey.

You hear a silent chuckle.

You feel the fingers of the larger freak on your shoulders, and it's hissing breath at your ears.

"You know...I should actually thank you two..I originally was just hunting for this little lady here...it is rare to encounter someone..who appears to be so.. compatible..if you catch my drift...but it appears that you two led me to an ever greater catch..I am sure that Ultros would love to hear the stuff your merchant friend and Char were talking about..."

The freak chuckles again, and tightens his grip on your shoulder.

"Now..listen to me..both of you. Very Carefully. No sounds. You will follow me back...down stairs. Resist me, and I will hurt you....I am sure that there will be loads of interest in your parts Big Arm..as for you little lady...you are mine. Now..any objections?"

in for a wild wild ride aren't we...

>>23599708
Lets do this
>>
>>23599708
>>23599742

Could you elaborate. Joey's tail is currently underneath the freak's foot ( I intended to state this in the post but apparently forgot.) Do you mean that you want to hold him down?
>>
>>23599815
yes use the adrenaline gland and overpower him
>>
>>23599659

Turn around, as if to comply. Then, whisper to him;

>"You know that row downstairs? The one about the Ultros Praetor, killed by a pair of lowly Gutterspawn?"

>"Guess who."

Then elbow him as hard as we can in the gut, with The Arm.

You activate your adrenaline gland, and feel the sudden surge in strength and aggression. It is as if time slows down as the hormones pump your body to be ready to fight.

Str 3+1
Agi 1+1

>>23599902

You slowly turn around to face the freak who ambushed you and say few decisive words, informing him that you were indeed the gutterspawn who killed the Ultros praetor.

Using the resulting confusion to your advantage, you smash the freak with your arm, thus releasing you and Joey from his grip.
The freak does manage to slash you with it's tail as it falls backwards, causing 1 point of damage.

Combat Start.
You have the initiative.
Joey is still confused and scared, she can't fight during this turn.

You can roll to attack the opposing freak according to the rules described here:>>23593579

Basic combat structure:
1st Your turn (attack/ability))
Opponent may try to dodge or block.
2st Opponent turn, (attack/ability)
You may try to dodge or block.
>>
Rolled 2, 6 = 8

>>
Rolled 4

>>23600250

Your attack does 6 damage and hits at speed of 8.
The opposing freak is still confused, but he tries to dodge your attack.
1d6+4. If the dice is 4 or lower, he will fail the dodge attempt.

Boom baby.

You send the freak flying with one devastating smash of your armored fist.

He takes 6-( 1 tough)= 5 damage, from your strike.
He tumbles to the ground, somewhat disorientated and definitely very confused.
"..waht?! How can...strenght and speeed..!?. am I this weak?!...screw this!!!"

He jumps up, still disorientated and suddenly, he seems to start fading away.
>>

Have Joey keep track of him while you finish him off while he is still disorientated.

>>
Rolled 3

>>23600615

The freak tries to flee.
1d6+4
(Rollan)

Roll for 1d6 for speed to see if you can catch him before he flees. You have an agility of 2 due to the adrenaline gland so your roll + 2 needs to be higher than the fleeing roll of the freak.

>>
>>23600698

You need to get a higher number than 7 in order to catch him.
Also, for clarity, in combat phase, I only count the first roll after my post. In normal rolling the highest of first 3 counts.

Success, you manage to grapple the freak before he manages to completely disappear.
He however, tries to struggle away, beating at you with ferocious speed.
1d6+ 2str. (attack damage)
1d6+4agility (attack speed)

You can try to block the damage, or dodge it, but both options will release your grapple. You can also just take the damage, and hold him down for this turn, allowing you to do an un avoidable 1d6+4 attack on him next turn.

(I am coming up with rules for grappling on the fly right now, sorry if they suck. I am not very good at this. I have no idea how to make escapes from grapple possible for example.)
>>
Rolled 4

>>23600853

Spewing sonovabitch wanted to rape our friend. I say tank it and wreck his shit next turn.
>>
Rolled 6 + 4

>>23600853
With rolls like that you can easily tank it
>>
>>23600853
opponents shouldn't damage you while grappled unless they are spiked or have free limbs such as tails

the grappler would roll to keep ahold of their victim doing crushing damage or peircing damage if they grapple you with their mouth

the grappled can either make an agility roll or a srength roll in order to escape
>>
>>23600853

The freak pummels you with it's claws, gauging at your flesh and causing numerous wounds, none of them immedeatly lethal, however, they need to be tended quickly as you are bleeding quite severely.
You take 3 points of damage, leaving you with 2 points of health.

You take the pain the freak inflicts upon you, until it is exhausted. Then you become anger and fury and everything blacks out.

Combat over.

When you regain your consciousness, you find yourself kneeling over the broken body of your foe, his face reduced to red mush and bits of bone from repeated strikes from your fist.

Joey stands few feets away from you, clearly still in shock.

You also hear a loud voice from the nearby room:
"What's going on there!? Goa go check it out!"

Chug some biogel, call out to Javak that you just had a run in with an Ultros spy.

The freak howls at you fiercely.

"What?! Inside the brewery?! Kill them!" shouts Char from the other room.

You yell out for Javal, but you can't make out if he responds from the intense howls of the guardian beast.

You could either rush back the way you came, or go to the room next to you. It seems that the guardian beast has some problems with doorways, as it is quite large, so it has to almost crawl trough them.
>>
>>23601408

"Your beast killed the intruder this fast?"
"I am not sure..why would this mercenary even be here, and most importantly, how did it get in the brewery?"
>>

Continue yelling.

"I do not know! Call of your beast!"
"It won't stop that easily, especially when it has seen it's prey! Your servants need to keep running if they want to survive!"

You know... you are the best quest GM in /tg/, hands down.

Last summer, I moved into a new country due to work. I had nothing to do, and only had internet but no computer to play with or anything. So I read Spider Quest with my PS3 and with my smartphone. It was the best entertainment I could have asked for with the minimum means to enjoy it.

Dude, thanks.

Go to the guy, be prepared to smack his shit if he's about to attempt kidnap. We have had enough of that for one day.
>>
>>23602102
This guy looks cool. Sort of insecty. If he isn't a friend, I'd like to paste his armor looking stuff onto us. We can do that right? Just attach limbs and stuff to us?
>>
Op, your simple yet vibrant artstyle represents everything that makes quests great.
>>
>>23602165
This guy's plates are too tiny for us. Joey might fit them...

Anyways, I've still got faith in freakmanity, even though we are already thinking of disemboweling and cannibalizing this new stranger who is offering us help in a dire situation out of the goodness of his heart.
>>
>>23602165
Maybe Joey would fit but were BIG by gutterspawn standards.

Let's follow Mr.Bugger.
So far we HAVE seen that there are good freaks out there, and whatever he's packing can't be worse than the elephant freak trying to eat our faces right now.

You rush inside the chamber where from the Freak was yelling to you, without much questions.

As you and Joey enter the chamber, you feel your exhaustion rushing down on you like a raging torrent.
Everything starts to fade black as you pass out.

Now concludes this week's session of Freak Quest.
Input and comments are always appreciated, especially suggestions for the combat rules I use, as I am not really good at rule sets.

Sorry that I have to end this session in another cliff hanger, but it is extremely late here.
I will have to go to sleep soon.
>>
>>23602316
thanks for the thread today.
areyou posting tomorrow as well?
>>
>>23602351

Unfortunately not.
These threads require quite lot of preparation, and staying up this long is quite taxing.

I had to come up with a basic layout of the whole upper floor, as I at no point had any intention of forcing you guys to go trough any route. I have a bunch of background pictures that I didn't get to use, as you guys didn't go to those places.
>>
Thanks for the quest FQop, loved the rage mode moment.
>>
>>23602470

No problem, I aim to please.

Anyways, I am gonna go to sleep now.
Feel free to post suggestions, ideas, criticism and general input, as it helps me to improve.

Hopefully you guys had fun.

I might not be around but we need to get afew things. That freak we killed has primo parts if he can do optical camouflage like the predator. That is good parts for us and joey. See if our merchant can help us out. Next, collect reward from retard bar tender. Also. Good game folks. Gutterspawn nation up in this bitch.
>>
Things to remember for next session:
1) We have some sort of a rage mode. This might be the onset of becoming an aughound or something else. Must investigate further.

2) Our beloved Joey just watched us crush a freak's skull in with our bare hands. This freaks chicks out (and the cops, fucking pigs.) We are going to have to talk to her about it.
>>
>>23603039
Hopefully she understands, it's a nasty world. She's killed before too.
