>Behind you, Einstein hovered. You could check his data at any time, you knew: http://pastebin.com/CaAF0yS8

You're sitting in the cockpit of the wyvern, with Einstein and Anna at your side.
As quickly as possible, Anna pulled back on the auxilary thrusters, coming in for a proper landing.

You, and the ship, were on the road in front of Alex's apartment, and you didn't feel anyone inside of it.
The red-haired girl with a knife had just smashed out of the apartment's window, legs bleeding and cut from the glass. She hadn't seemed to care.
She didn't care about anything, you felt, as she ran into a nearby alleyway.

There was a scrape as the Wyvern hit the road, and as soon as you did, Anna pulled a switch, and with a hiss, a hatch opened.
"What's the plan?" Anna said, her voice calm and cold. "I can pick her off with the lasers from the air."

You were pretty sure that invalidated some sort of UPA treaty about not using space-based weapons planetside.
>>
>>23561604
"Isn't that like super illegal? Or is that one of the legalities your ship is immune from?"
>>
>>23561604
"Oh dear. I don't know. Can you get a clear shot?"
>>
>>23561604
I think we should just get to her and taze her.

Einstein, follow me, keep a line with the Wyvern open.
>>
>>23561604
"We should probably focus on getting to Alex before she does. I kind of worry about the collateral damage the lasers could do."
>>
>>23561662
That assumes we can catch up with her though.
>>
>>23561690
well we can jump out of the wyvern ahead of her, if we have to. Ion boots, and all.
>>
>>23561604
Don't kill her. She felt weirdly emotionless. I don't think she is fully aware of what she is doing
>>
>>23561713
Did we bring them?

>>23561604
"Something... wasn't right about her. I'd rather not do that if avoidable. I'll go after on foot, you do overwatch?"
>>
"Isn't that like super illegal?" You ask, and then shake your head.. "Something... wasn't right about her. I'd rather not do that if avoidable. I'll go after on foot, you do overwatch?"
"I can try." She said. "But if you're getting out, it'd be best if you got out now. It'd be a waste to make another landing."
"Einstein, follow me." You say, taking out the taser Anna had given you.
Then Anna tossed you a reload for more projectiles.
"We should probably focus on getting to Alex before she does." You say. "I kind of worry about the collateral damage the lasers could do."
"The answer is a lot." She said, as you strapped on your mostly-completed ion boots, giving the redhaired girl chase. "It's designed for ship hills. In atmosphere, it may as well be a pillar of fire. Burn away the smog, though."
As you gave chase, another person entered your awareness. Before, isolated on the station, you hadn't realized how great your telepathy had gotten.
"I see someone else." Anna said, "Climbing over a chain link fence. He's limping, and there are three other people on the other end of the alleyway."
>>
>>23561752
>ship hills
>Hulls, even. More proofreading, Exa!
>>
>>23561752
Use the ion boots to catch up with them.
>>
>>23561752
"That's Alex!"

Use the boots to try and get to him before the knife chick does and before he gets to the people at the end of the alley. Who are probably not friendly.

>>
"That's Alex!" You cry, and lean forward... and lean on your ion boots, and they shot forward. You blasted toward the redhaired girl-
And then the right boot burst, ionized phaeron gas blasting out in all directions.
You went careening into the wall of the alleyway, and with telekinesis, shielded yourself at the last moment.

Wheezing from the drain, dust surrounding you, the rest of the wall started to crumble as you got to your feet again.
"Run, Alex!"
You cry, stumbling to your feet as you ran, kicking off your other ion boot.

"That's what I'm fucking trying!" He responded, exasperated.

Ahead of you, as you ran barefoot, subconscious telekinesis guarding your feet from broken glass, you saw Alex finally make it over the fence, limping - and running facefirst into the other three men. They were all drastically different builds, and the same 'thing' was moving beneath their skin.
The redhaired girl started climbing the fence, determined to get to him, and you sprinted forward.

Soon enough, she - and the other three men - were in taser range. Though, if you had an idea of what you wanted to do, you could also use your psionic powers. But you were drained, from protecting yourself from the wall.

You raise up your taser in both hands, and then you pull the trigger. She collapsed, twitching to the ground, arching her back.

One of the scrawny men turned to you, and charged toward the fence.
You tazed him, too, and one of the men holding Alex. He bolted down the alleyway, running, and the man started chasing him.

So you raised your taser, and knocked him down with one final shot.
The tazer beeped, signaling that it was out of the strange sticky projectiles it fired, and the girl started climbing to her feet, her arms and legs still twitching.
"He's coming down the alleyway, but the rioters on the other end of the street all went quiet! Now they're just staring at the alleyway, quiet." Anna's voice came from einstein.

"Alex! Get back here!" You call, and then walk toward the redhaired girl, pressing the end of the taser into her spine. She collapsed, twitching, and the taser started to grow warm under your hand.
Alex skidded to a stop... and then ran back, huffing and panting as an entire riot full of people came barreling down, eyes empty.
"Anna! Land!" You call to Einstein, as Alex made his way over the fence. "Something is very wrong here, Anna. Whatever is effecting the girl is also effecting the other three guys I shot, and she's still getting back up."
Limping, Alex ran almost into you, breathing heavily.
"So." Alex said, panting, as you reloaded the taser. "What a coincidence that we ran into eachother."
You reach out to lift Alex -
And you can't lift him at all. Your telekinesis... refused to work on him.

"Oh, fuck." He said, turning back to see the horde start to reach the fence, and tapped you on the shoulder and started limping to the other end of the alleyway. "Run, Heather. These guys are insane."

"Alex, do you have any idea what's happening?"
"No clue." He said, panting, as you grabbed and started to pull him. "First the government shut off the extranet, then - whoop-"
He tripped over one of the bricks that had fallen out of the... crater you'd made in the wall.

"Then." He huffed, as you caught up to him and pulled him to his feet, dragging him toward the ship.. "Then people started to turn into these *things*."
The two of you made your way out into the alleyway, and the Wyvern was sitting there, the door open. Anna stood in the doorway, still in her jumpsuit, and the horde chased you.
"Come on!" Anna said, lightning dancing between her fingertips. Your hair stood on end when she started to manually taser the horde, slowing them down.

Eventually, you two made your way into the ship, and Anna bolted toward the cockpit, pushing up on the auxilary thrusters. The ship shook, and soon enough, you were above the horde as they spilled out of the alleyway.

Alex wheezed, and leaned up against you for a moment, as the door hissed shut.
"So." He said, and then closed his eyes, losing consciousness.
While he was there, you reach out toward him, and while you could sense his presence... his mind was a brick wall - no, more than that. Like a featureless, indestructable sphere, his secrets and thoughts hid within. It wasn't subtle, but it was invulnerable.

>>
"Einstein, send a message to Max, Borer's World needs an Exterminatus."
>>
"I don't know." You say. "Something seems... strange about his mind."
You press your hand up against his neck, and you feel his pulse beating strongly, in the way that only someone who'd been utterly exhausted could. You give him a cursory examination, and there wasn't anything out of the ordinary except a simple brace around his leg, holding it tight - he didn't even have a cast.
"He seems alright, but my psionics won't affect him for some reason."
"Really?" Anna asked, and the ship shuddered again as she came back. She knelt down, and appraised him with a look. "... You're right. I can see that he's there, but I can't... Let me try something."
She touched him, and her fingers sparked - and the spark glided across his skin, refusing to touch it, as it bounced to you, zapping you.
"What." She said, then shook her head. "Okay. I don't have unlimited ion thrusters here, so I'll pull us into orbit. He seems okay, but we can stuff him into the bed for now. You need to strap down."

"Can we lock the bed on the inside?" You ask, and carry him into the bed, closing it.
"Not really." She said. "Too much a risk, since I sleep in there most of the time."

You strap yourself into the chair, and Anna started piloting. You were shoved back into your chair as she pushed herself forward, sliding out of the atmosphere, spiraling around the planet as she spiralled outward. While she did that, you held Einstein tightly, narrating a message out to Manus and Max, informing them of the situation.
"Okay." Anna said, almost half an hour later. "We're in a stable orbit."
She took a deep breath, and then let it go, and turned her chair, facing you.
"... What do we do about him?" She asked. "I expected that we'd just have to find the girl and stop her, but... they were all chasing him, did you notice? They didn't even glance at me or you, except the one that you tased."

>>23562824
>>23562839
There was still the girl involved. Plus, Alex may only be immune to direct psionics.
>>
>>23562788

friend and classmate of mine had a dream about a girl with red hair stabbing you and with the extranet down on the entire planet i couldn't get in touch with you.

this is Anna by the way, i met her at the station, we're friends! she provided a VERY fast means of transportation.
>>
And then Anna is the best of the best of the best of the best Saints. Better than Saint Dave D. Davidson. Maybe. Very close.
>>
>>23562852
It is targeted to area/people where bad stuff happens, but it wasn't directly affecting Alex.
>>
>>23562788
"This is Anna by the way. She is also awesome."
>>
>>23562824
>"Oh wait. You can't be *Completely* immune because Damien's ESP worked!
he didn't realize it was a vision though, like he normally does
>>
>>23562880
How do you know that?
>>
>>23562883
definitely this.
>>
"One of the other students there, Damien, who can predict the future. He had a dream where you got stabbed by the girl. She was your girlfriend, right?"
"Uh, if she's not insane, I think she still is." He said, and grumbled something like 'couldn't she have waited an hour before turning'.
"Did she hurt you? Are you alright?"
"She hit me with her car a few weeks ago." He responded. "But other than that, no. She went all black eyed and started talking about... I don't know what. Just babbling. They were like that for a few hours, and then the news talked about a bunch of other people babbling, and then suddenly riots, she grabbed a knife, and I ran. You know the rest."

You nod. "This is Anna, by the way." You say. "I met her at the station. We're friends! She is also awesome."
"Hey there." Alex said, grinning at her.
She gave him an appraising look, and then a slight nod. "Hi."
Then she turned to you.
"Well, we'll probably be late to our first class." She said.
"Wait. you come across the galaxy, soar down in a military spacecraft which I don't recognize, shoot lightning at a horde of mindless zombies, I'm some void or whatever, and you're worried about classes?"
"Yes." She said. "Get back in the bed, since we don't have an extra seat for you."
"Can I keep the shutter open at least?"
You could tell that Anna wanted to say no, but just shrugged.
>>
>>23562887
But it still happened is the point, even if it was garbled and wrong.
>>
>>23562901
Most of it is evident from what we know. It's targeted towards bad things happening, at least some of the time, which is shown by the fact that he keeps on seeing things he can't help with.

And Alex is immune to direct psionics, the psychic lightning bounced off him, we couldn't use telekenesis or telepathy.
>>
>>23562924
"You might fall out."

If Anna wants to talk privately, hold her hand so we can talk like the Nagala and zap each other.
>>
>>23562924
"Well I guess we could. Hey Einstein any word from Dr. Manus yet?"
>>
>>23562952
>hold her hand so we can talk like the Nagala and zap each other.
hm if Anna can do that ok. We could just use telepathy.
>>
>>23562924
"You could fall, pinball and hurt yourself. The docs in the Academy will want to have you in one piece."
>>
>>23562924

"might be better if you keep it closed, wouldn't want your sleeping ass floating around among all this highly sensitive and beautifully made tech."

she could still be your girlfriend if somehow this situation resolves itself and everyone is back to normal.

although i did kinda zap her pretty hard...
>>
"You might fall out." You say.
He sighed, and climbed in, closing the shutter, and then Anna pushed up on the thrusters. You were pushed to the back of you seat, and soon enough, you were slung out of orbit. Anna hit the bubble drive again, and the projector went green.
"Hey, Einstein." You say, to the orb in your lap. "Any word from Dr. Manus yet?"
"No messages recieved." He said.
You sigh, and then grab Anna's hand so that you can talk like the nagala do.
She jumped, and pulled her hand away. "What was that for?" She asked, the normally-invisible scar on her face getting more visible as she blushed.
"Are you guys done with the moving around yet?" Alex asked. "This thing is pretty cramped."
>>
>>23563037
whisper "Can't you use electricity to talk like Nagala?"
>>
>>23563037
"I was wondering if you could do the Nagala talking thing with me.

We're pretty much done moving, you can open it up."
>>
>>23563037
telepathy <It seemed to me that you wanted to talk privately so I figured you could talk like a Nagala.>

look anna in the eye hold a finger to our lips then calmly grab her wrist and think 'can you hear me now?'
>>
>>23563037
"Get some rest, I'm sure you need it."
"Shh!" "Use your lightning."
>>
>>23563059
The question then becomes why we bother with that, considering we're TELEPATHS.
>>
>>23563037
"Just thought that you'd want to talk in private?"
"No, it might take a while, besides you look dead tired, you should take a nap."
>>
>>23563037

just try to get some rest, we'll be there before you know it.
>>
>>23563037
> Hey Exa, since we are now out of immediate danger and it has been bothering me since yesterday: the speed of the bubble drive seems kind of slow, since driving at 200c for a day would not even let us travel a full lightyear, which would be a quarter of the distance from our solar system to the nearest star, Alpha Centauri, so you might wanna slap a K after the 200 so that we can actually travel significant distances. (I know we are going at the speed of plot and that it does not really matter, I just had to point it out) Anyway, you are doing a great job, rock on.

"Let's schoot Damien a quick message, that for once his precognitions saved someone"
>>
>>23563086
>You can't talk wordlessly yet. You've accomplished it once, with Sarvesh, but you're not quite sure how. You can sense people now, which you couldn't before, (you can even sense Alex), but you can't talk with it reliably.

"Just try to get some rest. we'll be there before you know it." You say.
"Oh, alright." He grumbled.
You turn to Anna, whispering. "It seemed to me that you wanted to talk privately, so I figured you could talk like a nagala."
"Oh!" She responded, as if it hadn't occurred to her. "No, I'm fine, unless you want to talk about something."
>>
>>23563136
"Thought you'd want to comment on me dragging you hundreds of light years to save my strange Void friend from a horde of mind controlled zombie people."
>>
>>23563136
Hug her. "Thank you. Really. For everything. I'm sorry. I owe you. Really big."
>>
>>23563136
"Oh, you just looked like you wanted to talk."
Blush a little.
"Sorry."

"We're not moving about now."
>>
>>23563136

"I'm going to build you the best personal drone you've ever had!"

and if by chance she says she has never had one

"best, ever."
>>
>>23563136
"Oh" be awkward for a second, blush.
"Let's go then."
>>
>>23563136
"We're going to be late, so might as well practice doing something psionic."
>>
"Thought you'd want to comment on me dragging you hundreds of light years to save my strange void friend from a horde of mind-controlled zombie people."
"Void doesn't seem like the right word." Anna mentioned. Then she shook her head. "I thought you'd comment about the surgical scars, or the mercenary tattoo." She responded. "Seemed improper to ask my own questions."
You pull her into a zero-g hug, which was almost more like a tackle.
"Thank you." You say. "Really. For everything. I'm sorry. I owe you. Really big."
"Well, I do have that favor... But you're welcome." She said, with a slight grin. Then she shrugged. After you let go, she simply leapt into her chair, laying back, and pulled out a book, as the bubble drive slammed you forward at 200kC.

Time passed.
Halfway during the trip, during which Alex had slept and awoke and lost eight times to anna in Futurecraft, Einstein suddenly spoke up.
"Max wishes to enter a call." He said.
>>
>>23563353

put him through, Einstein.
>>
>>23563353
"It would probably be best to accept, wouldn't it?"

Well, let's take the call.
>>
>>23563353
well open it "sorry got caught up attacked by zombies we are on our way home "
>>
>>23563353
"Put him through. I probably should have updated him earlier, come to think of it."
>>
>>23563353
"Patch it through Einstein. Man I just he won't yell at us."
>>
>>23563353
Answer the phone.

"Hey Max. I'm bringing a friend back with me, hope you don't mind, he's a psionic null, or something like that, psychic stuff doesn't work on him.

And all sorts of stuff got weird and messed up on Burer's Glyph."
>>
"Put him through, Einstein." You say, and slip on your glasses, pulling down the earbud and microphone out of it.
"Hi, Max. Sorry for being late to class; but I did bring you a surprising individual."
"Yeah, I heard." The synthesized voice responded. "Me and the researchers have been talking about what the existence of your friend means. But we've found no evidence of your, uh, mind controlled zombies, on Burer's Glyph. The rioters got what they wanted, and the government is now paying them a half again of their minimum wage. I expect they'll have higher taxes to pay for the damages for a time, but we haven't found anything. Anyway... we're cancelling classes for today. Mostly since all of us are going to be brainstorming and theorizing for a time."
>>
>>23563467
No evidence? But there were still riots when we left! Einstein has footage and everything!
>>
>>23563467
"Well that is certainly not what we saw on the ground, but let's save that for when we are back at the station."
>>
Rolled 33

>>23563467
it might mean whatever forces were at work saw no point in maintaining the riots...
>>
>>23563467
"No offence Max, but where are you getting your info? It's a bit surprising that this has blown over now that we've left, not to mention we *both* witnessed it with our own eyeballs."
>>
>>23563467
"No evidence, I was there. Alex was there.

It was not simple rioting, they were pursuing Alex and I suspect that some psychic mindcontrol or something like that was afoot.

The extranet was cut before everything went to hell."
>>
>>23563467
"I don't know about rioters, but something was definitely Weird on Burer's Glyph. Black eyes, moving... strangely, all of them focused on the same thing. I even tasered Alex's girlfriend and then she started getting back up again, almost like it didn't happen."
>>
>>23563467

this news is slightly disturbing.

Einstein has footage of the event.
>>
>>23563467
"Good thing I've got evidence then. Einstein has video footage of a horde of rioters acting strangely, and I personally noticed several individuals that appeared to have something moving beneath their skin unnaturally.
My current theory is that they targeted and attacked my friend due to their inability to control him."
>>
"No evidence? but there were still riots when we left! Einstein has footage and everything!"
"Well, we do believe there are riots, of course. They just broke about an hour ago, so it's all still breaking news. Details are sketchy. What time did you set out?"
"Two hours ago." You say.
"Then they continued to riot for about an hour after you left." Max's uplift interface synthesized.
"It was not simple rioting." You say. "They were perusing Alex, and I suspect that some psychic mind control or something like that was afoot. Einstein has footage of the event. They were acting strangely, and I personally noticed several individuals that appeared to have something moving beneath their skin, unnaturally. My current theory is that they targeted and attacked my friend due to their inability to control him."
Max was silent for a moment.
"We have no records of mind control." Max said, finally. "We've had subjects for Jilly to try it out on, and it's theoretically possible, but we've never seen it. Do you mind emailing us the footage?"
>>
>>23563577
"Of course not.

I'll give you and the scientists all the footage I have and answer any questions I can when I get back.

This was not some random riot."

Send him all the footage relevant to the event.
>>
>>23563577
"Of course not. Send the footage of what happened on Burer's Glyph, Einstein."
>>
>>23563577
"Well of course I will send it to you. I can't figure out what it is alone."
Send him the footage
>>
>>23563577

I'd rather deliver it personally when we get back.
>>
>>23563577
"I will send you what I have."

Alex said that his girlfriend's eyes went all black and she started babbling and then a few hours later everyone like that all started rioting all at once.
>>
>>23563577
Maybe the mind-controlled are disposing of evidence of their existence. You can't leave out that possibility.
>>
"Of course not. Send the footage of what happened on Burer's Glyph, Einstein." You say. "I can't figure out what it is alone, and maybe the mind-controlled are disposing of evidence of their existence. You can't leave out that possibility."
"You're right, we can't." Max said. "We'll need to add this to our deliberations." He said. "Well... just be careful with your friend, for now, and travel safe."
Then he hang up, and Alex just... slumped.
"Ten losses. Zero wins." Alex told you. "I'll just... pout in the corner here."
Anna gave you a silent smile, and pulled open her book again.
>Anything to do while you ride to the institute?
>>
>>23563577
"Of course I mind, there's no guarantee that it won't be tampered with, and obviously they/he/she/it is getting rid of the evidence."
>>
>>23563800
"Two versus one? I think that'd be fair odds."

let's try to make contact with Einstein through our psionics.

>>
>>23563800
"Just to make you feel worse, I only introduced her to the game yesterday."
>>
>>23563800
Fix the boots, also make sure to prevent them from exploding again.
>>
>>23563800

heh this.
>>
"I taught Anna how to play yesterday. Aren't I the best teacher?"
He let out an audible sob.
"She's amazing." You say, as Anna grinned, reading her book.

You float your way into your seat, and pull up the ion boots, examining them. The left one still works properly, but the right one had a loose bolt, causing it to wobble when you'd pushed the thruster too hard, and a magnetic plate had twisted out of alignment in the wrong way, causing the thrust to go everywhere, sporadically.. Biting your lip, with a few of the tools you keep onhand for various reasons, you disassemble and reassemble the boots again, making them functional once more. You find that it's actually very easy to work on something in zero-g while using telekinesis. You still preferred the workbench, but zero-G was almost as good.

Making sure to bolt everything as tightly as possible, you tested the boots out, flying out of the cockpit to the hallway and back, and it didn't seem they were as malfunctional, anymore.
"How come all the cool stuff doesn't work on me?" Alex asked, suddenly, looking up from his personacom.
>>
>>23563984
"Are ion boots not cool?"
>>
>>23563984
I have no idea, but if your list of cool stuff doesn't include ion boots then you are my friend no more.
>>
>>23563984
"Because you are a butt. Or maybe you do have psionics and specialized in blocking things out for some reason. Or something. I'm not an expert, y'know."
>>
>>23563984
"That's a mystery. But don't worry the doctors will probe you very closely to find out" Say this with a very dark grin
>>
>>23563984
"I dunno, ask the scientists when we arrive."
>>
>>23563984

i have no idea, it's like your mind is encased in a very hard layer of 'can't touch this'

kind of like the old song that one guy plays when he wins matches with no loses.
>>
>>23563984
Put on a super serious face.
"It's a mystery to everyone."
>>
>>23563984
"Probably because you're so much thick headed that nothing can get through to you, not even psychic powers.

Or maybe it's just empty in your skull, nothing to use psychic powers on."
>>
>>23563984
"You're a Voidy psinjik."
>>
"Are ion boots not cool?"
"No, I mean the wonky brain stuff." He said. "Anne tried her zappy thing on me while we were playing, but it just kind of... bounced around me, in a way."
"That's a mystery." You say. "Maybe because you are a butt."
"Maybe that's it." He said, with a chuckle.
"It's like your mind is encased in a very hard layer of 'can't touch this'." You say. "Or maybe it's just empty in your skull. Nothing to use psychic powers on."
He frowned.
"That's not it, not it at all." He said, and chuckled.

More time passed, and eventually, Anna put down her book (which was about some sort of fantasy creatures, and dragons, it looked) and buckled herself into her seat.
"We're coming out of bubble soon. Strap yourselves in, you two.
"I... don't have straps or anything." Alex said, as you buckle yourself in.
Anna just smirked and nodded to the bed.
Your friend sighed, and crawled in, closing the shutter.
Anna slammed back on the thrust, back on the bubble drive, and you were almost tugged out of your seat as the great blue sun appeared in front of you. Adroitly, much more comfortable out of atmosphere, Anna whirled her ship around and thrusted on the ion, as the station got closer and closer, a great, wheel-shaped station with solar panels sticking out of almost every possible place.
Anna leaned her chair forward and then slowly, carefully, she closed the distance to the station.

>Field too long!
>>
With a shudder, everything stopped.
"We're here." Anna said, and unbuckled herself, pulling open the shutter. "How good are you in Zero-G?"
"Uh... not very?" he asked.
"Okay."
Then she grabbed him by the shoulders, and flung him down the hallway.

She grinned at you, and started climbing up to the hub.

Once you were there, you saw Max, and a scientist you didn't recognize.
"Hello, my name is Max." Max said.
Alex didn't seem to understand him.
Max sighed, and looked to the scientist.
"Don't worry." the scientist told Max. "I'll take care of him. "This way. We'll be able to explain a lot of things. We just need you to answer a few questions.

Alex and the scientist left, while Max continued floating there.
"We've decided something." Max said. "If he is, uh... antipsionic, then that suggests a few things about the nature of our powers. So... well, for the time being, I suppose that if he agrees, he'll be a student here with you."
>>
>>23564250
So his mind is an MC Hammer song?
>>
>>23564258
That would be great! You're the best, Max!

Do you have futurecraft lessons? I think Alex could use some.
>>
>>23564258
"Cool. It's strange though. I tried talking to him psionically and it just sort of...bounced off his mind. Anna couldn't affect him with her thermokinesis either.
>>
>>23564258
"That'd probably be for the best.

It's odd, I couldn't use telekinesis or telepathy on him, and Anna couldn't zap him with electricity, but Damien managed to dream about what was going to happen to him."
>>
>>23564304
yes, this. Damien vision thing must be noted.
>>
>>23564304
And telepathy still passively sensed that he was there.
>>
>>23564258
Anna couldn't shock him with her pyrokinesis either, even though that is a physical effect. It's very strange.
>>
>>23564258
"How was the video data?"
>>
>>23564258
"I couldn't use telekinesis to move him out of the way either."

"Oh, here's a copy of Einstein's footage by the way."
>>
>>23564258
"Will he have some kind of contract too?"
>>
"That'd probably be for the best." you say. "It's odd. I couldn't use telekinesis or telepathy on him, and Anna couldn't zap him with electricity, but Damien managed to dream about what was going to happen to him, and I still can passively sense that he's there."
"... Perhaps clairvoyance works properly on him, but telepathy and telekinesis does not." Max said, thinking.
"How was the video data?"
"We still have some people reviewing it." Max said. "We didn't notice any of things moving beneath their skin, but they do seem like rather determined rioters.
Then suddenly, a powerful tail wrapped around you and Anna, pulling you both close.
"You're back!" Jilly zapped, her voice squealing with glee as she flashed bright yellow. "Summer and Damien were really worried, but I wasn't, I knew you'd both be okay!"
>>
>>23564380
"Yep! And Damien was wrong!"

>>23564380
"Jilly!" Give her a hug.

"If they're worried I should go tell them we're alright at once!"

"Damien's going to be so happy to meet Alex."

"Jilly!" You cry, and hug her. "If they're worried, I should go tell them we're alright at once.
"They're in the cafeteria right now." Jilly said, tugging you to the elevator, her wings flickering.
"We saved the guy Damien dreamed about!" You tell her, grinning, as the three of you walk. Jilly was holding both of your hands as you walked. "His name is Alex, we'll introduce him once the scientists are done with him. Damien was wrong. Maybe we can tease him about this."
"Yeah, let's tease him." Jilly said, and you made your way into the cafeteria.

Summer, Sarvesh, and Damien were there, sitting, having dinner, and then Jilly gave off some sort of .. mental cheer, prompting them all to turn.
"You're okay!" Summer said, her manifest pulling you into a hug. Sarvesh went still, his mandibles twitching, and Damien was eating more goop.
"How did things go?" Damien asked, his voice kept very neutral.

Summer clapped, and Sarvesh buzzed, and Jilly flashed yellow.
Damien nodded. "Good. That's good. I'm glad I was able to help."
Then he walked past you, and out of the cafeteria. His sugary goop was left untouched.
Jilly's eyebrows met, and she zapped you.

It was only a day. It's important that Anna gets real food, but we'll be fine.

He didn't even let us hug him.

"Hey, Damien! Come back! You left your food here!"
He just raised an arm and waved, as he walked.
"He didn't even eat all of his goop." You say. "I wonder if he's okay. But first, I'm going to get some real food in me."

Some time later, you'd collected heaps of various meals, and started eating. After eating nothing but rations, you were *starving*, as usual after using too much telekinesis. Essentially inhaling most of your food, you told your story to everyone, taking a seat next to Sarvesh.

"So, you believe that these things are mind controlled?" Sarvesh asked. "By whom?"
Anna shrugged, eating yet another ham sandwich (that you'd made for her), while Summer kept asking questions about Alex. Jilly, for her part, was constantly holding or touching Anna.

Well their minds felt empty and thoughtless, but their bodies seemed full of... something.

I don't know what was happening, I just had to save Alex.

We are going to throw out all of your rations Anna, I don't care if their wasted. Nobody deserves to eat like that.
>>
>>23564785
"No spoilers in psijinkery, except Prometheus but he doesn't count, you're more awesome than Saint Dave D. Davidson. Maybe. Close. Very close."
>>
>>23564785

i have no idea, the rioting stopped nearly an hour after we picked up Alex and flew back here. scientists are picking at the video i recorded with Einstein.

the rioters, their mind felt empty and i could see something underneath their skin.

i don't like it one bit.
>>
"Well, their minds felt empty and thoughtless, but their bodies seemed full of... something." You say. "I don't know what was happening, I just had to save Alex."
"I wasn't able to see them very well." Anna said. "So I don't know. I didn't see that 'something' Heather keeps talking about."
Sarvesh gave a long, slow nod.
"That doesn't sound good." Sarvesh said, buzzing.

Soon enough, Summer made her own way out of the cafeteria to go back to nap, and Anna was dragged off by Jilly, and you'd eaten all you could. Once again, you had free time. You could see what's up with Damien, go wherever Jilly was dragging Anna, stay here, with Sarvesh and his fish, go talk to Summer... or maybe you could even find Alex somewhere.
>What do?
>>
>>23564785
I get the feeling we said the wrong thing to Damien.

"That, Sarvesh, is the million-dollar question. I honestly have no idea."
>>
>>23564969
Check to see if Alex is done in the lab.
Then nag him to come hang out in the workshop with us while we build that drone for Anna.
>>
>>23564969
I think probably we should go talk to Damien. If he doesn't want to talk to us, head to our workshop and work on Anna's drone.
>>
>>23564969
Alex, then Anna.
Make another ham sandwich as a present for Anna when we get to her.
>>
>>23564969
>you could see what's up with Damien,
>>
>>23564969
Go with Jilly and Anna. May want to start on Anna's drone.

Also, maybe the thing under their skin is actually somekind of biotechnology? Thats why it seems Heather is the only one to see it.
>>
>>23564969
Hang out with Sarvesh, see if his crabby wisdom has any insights on the situation, either with Damien walking off, having our friend here as a null, this whole mind-control mess.
>>
>>23564969
Talk to summer. I like summer.
>>
>>23564969
Lets talk with sarvesh. He's a cool guy.
>>
>>23564969

voting Damien because he's acting really oddly.
>>
>>23564969
Check on Damien, then if shit is cool with him >>23564989
>>
>>23564969
>Damien
he's acting odd, we should see whats up
>>
"Hey Prometheus, what's up? Did they fix your face yet?"
>>
>>23564969
Go see Anna.
>>
You give Sarvesh a goodbye, and make your way down to the dorms. This time, instead of going directly to your room or your workshop, you closed your eyes, and looked outward, into everything.. and felt Damien in one of the rooms. You reach up to pull open the door when Damien opened it.

His room, you were suprised, was plastered. With paintings. With art, and some scribbles, some with watercolour... one of a moonrise on what you suppose is haegoth, with forests and seas on the moon and the atmosphere dribbling off...
And then he twisted around a seat from in front of an easel, giving you a place to sit, and sat on his bed.
"Yeah?" He asked.
>>
>>23565172
Sit down on his bed facing his chair.
"You're being a butt! Why?"
>>
>>23565172
"What."
>>
>>23565172
"You feel okay bro?"
>>
>>23565172
"Ooh, those are pretty. I like your artwork.

But as for what I came for, penny for your thoughts? You saved someone, you're the reason my friend is alive, but you really don't look so good right now. What's wrong?"
>>
>>23565172
Realize you made a mistake and go to Jilly and Anna.

or just ask what is wrong with him, and get this over with
>>
>>23565172
you all right?
>>
>>23565172
"What's up?"
>>
>>23565201
Don't be so antagonistic. Even if its in jest, he likely to take offense and make things even worse.
>>
>>23565201
facing him*
I r gud at speaking.
>>
>>23565172
"Are you alright? Did I say something wrong?"
>>
"Ooh, those are pretty. I like your artwork."
"Especially good if you consider that I'm technically blind." He said.
"But as for what I came for... penny for your thoughts? You saved someone, you're the reason my friend is alive, but you really don't look so good right now. What's wrong?"
"Think about it this way." He said. "If you had the ability to save someone... would you? No, I know how you'd answer. But what if you had two people to save, on opposite ends of the galaxy? Or four? Or eight? Or sixteen?"
He closed his eyes. "Every single person in harm's way is someone I could possibly see. Every single moment I'm not working to save someone, I'm wasting my time, I'm letting people die. A billion people die every day. And I could, at any moment, see them before they do and save them."
Then he shrugged, and leaned back.
"But I want to be me. Not a morality-fueled future telling superhero. I don't want to kill myself trying. But I can't not."
>>
>>23565327
You're not letting them die. Not at all.

People have to die sometime, that's the way of life.

You're just giving some people a second chance. A way to continue.

And I want to say thank you for saving Alex.
then hug him
>>
>>23565327
"Thanks for saving my friend"
give him a thank you hug, not a big one mind you. Don't want for him to get ideas.
>>
>>23565327
"Damien, most people never even get a chance to save even one person like you have, you've saved more than one.

Lots of people are in harms way, you're not letting them die any more than you would be letting them die if you didn't see them.

You can't save everyone, you have to be yourself first."

Then give him a hug

"But you saved my friend, one of the few I have, and even if you don't save anyone like that again you'll always be a hero."
>>
>>23565327
The galaxy, no, the universe is big. It is vast, and complicated, and ridiculous. And then there are times, just, you know, sometimes, very rarely, impossible things just happen. And people call them miracles. Or Psijinks. Wait, forgot what I was going to say. Anyway, people are born and die, planets come and go, stars perish, matter disperses, then coalesces and forms into other patterns. Other worlds. Nothing can be eternal. And... Just because you can do something, doesn't mean that you should always do it. I forgot what I had for a point."
>>
>>23565473
>Nothing can be eternal.
I think you meant "Nothing is forever. Except diamonds, for some reason."
>>
>>23565327
"If you didn't have your abilities they'd still die, and look what you've accomplished. You've managed to save one of my friends."
>>
>>23565327
"Everyone's like that, to an extent. We could spend every waking second helping people, but we don't."
>>
"Damien, most people never even get a chance to save even one person, like you have. You've saved more than one. Lots of people are in harms way. you're not letting them die any more than you would be letting them die if you don't see them." You say, slowly. "You can't save everyone. You have to be yourself, first."
Then you pull him in a hug, and he was silent for a time.
"But you saved my friend, one of the few I have." You say, quietly. "And even if you don't save anyone like that again, you'll always be a hero. Thank you."
"... I knew exactly what you were going to say." He said. "But it had a much large effect on me than I thought."
He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath, and then nodded.
"You're right." He said. "It was just... a shock. To find that I actually could have saved the people I'd tried and given up on." He shrugged again.
"You know that first person I saved? That person was... actually Max. He says it was the little girl I saved, but it wasn't. He would've knocked her out of the way and gotten hit himself."
He sighed.
"And now that I did that, I'm here, and you're here, and you saved your friend, and he's going to go on to do so many more things. I... I can't get over the enormity of what I can do. When someone looks at telepathy, or telekinesis, or Anna's fire, or Sarvesh and his teleportation, or even Summer's creation of matter, they see something big. Mine's so big, so massive that nobody can even see it, and... and I don't know what to do with it."
>>
>>23565619
"That makes it all the more impressive."
>>
>>23565327
"You can't save them all. Not even if you cut yourself into many pieces. People have to die so other can be born and taught the lesson these people died for. Your gift is a rare one Damien. You have the gift to change the fate of those you care about. Don't save them all. Save all who you care about."
>>
>>23565619
Poke his head. "Oh surely you do know."

Let's go see Summer.
>>
>>23565619
"You're playing the long game, Damien. You've got the power to manipulate things in the here and now that will change things greatly."
>>
>>23565713
seconded.
>>
>>23565619
"And whatever you do to change things, we don't know what ripples it'll bring about.

It's big, bigger than anyone can see, so don't worry about the big things, worry about the little ones, do what you can to help those you care about, and the rest will take care of itself, hopefully."
>>
>>23565619
"It's Ironic. You are blind, yet you see more than any sentient being ould ever dream of. Maybe that's why your eyes are sealed forever so that you can see more with your inner sight"
>>
>>23565619
"You're a smart guy. I'm sure you'll figure something out. If it were me, Id win the lottery and live the life.
>>
>>23565619
Others have the power of here and now, you, you can change the Universe, or even universes if the theory's right - no spoilers. I know. I know that not I, not anyone really can truly get it.
>>
"And whatever you do to change things, we don't know what ripples it'll bring about." You say. "It's big, bigger than anyone can see, so don't worry about the big things. Worry about the little ones, do what you can to help those you care about, and the rest will take care of itself, hopefully." You say.
You get to your feet, and shoot him a smile.
"You're a smart guy. I'm sure you'll figure something out. If it were me, I'd win the lottery and live the life."
He thought about it for a moment. You started to make your way out of the room, and he got to his feet to walk you the very short distance. "By the way, Heather." He said, and chuckled. "Three. Four. Twentysix. Thirtyfour. And one hundred and sixty seven. Try the Veritas Lotto. You're welcome."
Then he closed the door again, and you heard the sound of something scratching - he was sketching something.

You make your way to your own room, and Summer was sitting there, her manifestation laying on the bed reading, while her actual body was curled up on the floor, wearing a pile of blankets and pillows.
When you came in, her ears twitched, and her head popped up.
"Hey, Heather." She said.
>>
>>23565885
WE GOTTA BUY A LOTTERY TICKET!
>>
>>23565885
Snatch a pillow and sit on our bed hugging it.

"It all worked, it was amazing, I feel like a superhero!"

Thanks for believing in me Summer.
>>
>>23565885
Einstein get that lottery ticket, pronto!

"Hi summer!" Pet the kitty.
>>
>>23565885
Lay down on the kitty and pet it.

"Hey Summer.

I got lottery ticket numbers from Damien, and I saved my friend from certain death. Best day ever."
>>
Rolled 78

>>23565885
>>23565918
I'm gonna laugh when it's a dud ticket...
>>
>>23565885
Get the lottery ticket.
Then turn to Summer : " So what was happening while I was trying to save my friend?"
>>
>>23565950
If it is, we frame it and give it to him.
>>
>>23565976
...as a reminder that the future isn't always set in stone. That's brilliant.
>>
When is the Electric one going to do the dance floor and coil/railgunnes?
>>
>>23565950
It doesn't really matter with what we're paid. This would just mean we don't have to save up for a couple of weeks before starting to build the best spaceship ever.

Got it wrong kid, it's "The boys and girls"
>>
>>23566020
If you'd be so kind.
>>
This Voidy guy is going to be the Null cipher on how psijinks work.
>>
"Einstein, purchase that lottery ticket." You say, and Einstein chirped.
"Please verify." He said, so you pressed your hand up against a small scanner on his side, and he chirped.
"Hey, Summer." You say. "I got lottery numbers from Damien, and I saved my friend from certain death. Best day ever. It all worked, it was amazing. I feel like a superhero!"
She grinned, and then the manifestation set down her pad and gave you a hug.
"That's awesome!" She said.
"Thanks for believing in me, summer."
"Well, next time." She said. "I'm coming. While you were gone... look what I figured out how to do!"

She screwed up her eyes... and suddenly you smelled rust, and metal.
"My lady!" A hoarse voice said, and there was suddenly a knight in full plate, standing there. "I am the knight of burgandymoor, at your service!"
You giggled.
"Yeah, he's from a kid's story, but the sword works! And he can protect people, and if I focus..."
A second knight appeared, doing the exact same thing... and the two eyed eachother warily.
"You cur! you are not me, you imposter!"
"Wait, wait, stop!" Summer said, as they started to argue. Eventually, she sighed, and they vanished.
"... I need to work on that more." She said, pouting.
>>
>>23566200
So. Cool.
Not as cool as Anna.
Braindoohicky, scars, merc...
Everything that a Project Manager could ever wish for.
>>
>>23566200
'You are not me, you imposter!'

>my sides
>>
>>23566200
"That's so cool! So they're controlled subconsciously?"
>>
>>23566200
"Still really cool!"
>>
>>23566200
"That is so very AWESOME! You just make things, people, with personalities of their own."
>>
>>23566200
"That's so cool! In time you could do remakes of historical battles! Except all would be real."
>>
>>23566200
Continue to build the droid for Anna.
>>
>>23566200
It's time to giggle uncontrollably.

"You could run a theatre, all by yourself."

"Can you make me a fluffy pillow, so I can sleep as comfortable tonight as I did last night?"
>>
>>23566200
Those knights are awesome, Summer. The smell made it.
>>
"That's so cool!" You say. "So they're controlled subconsciously?"
"I... don't know how they're controlled, really." Summer said. "They just... control themselves, I guess. That's different from what I do with... her." She said, and eyed her manifestation.
"That's so very *awesome*! You just make things, people, with personalities of their own."
"They always react weird when I make two of them, even when I try to make them not notice eachother. They just focus on eachother constantly." Summer said, and pouted.

A knock came at the door.
You make your way to it, and pull it open, and Alex was there.
"Hey. They let me out of their interrogation, and did you know they pay us ten thousand a week just for going here? That's probably better than the brainpowers!" He said, grinning.

"Ooh, is this the new person?" Summer's manifestation said, peeking her head around.
"Hello." Alex said, and held out a hand. "My name's Alex. You'd be Summer, Heather's roomate, right?"
"Right!" Summer said, and he and the manifestation shook hands.

Then... something twinged, and the manifestation disappeared, clothing falling to the ground.

There was a moment of silence.
And then suddenly Summer pounced on Alex, pulling him close into a large, fluffy hug.
"She's gone!" Summer called. "You finally got her to go away! Thank you, thank you!"

"... What's she saying?" Alex asked you. "All I'm getting are meows."

>End of thread!

She was annoyed by her manifestation? Da fuq is dis?

Well, ain't that something.

Maybe it was a manifestation brought about by subconscious guilt over Winter dying somehow, or something along those lines.

Okay then. Well next thread should be fun.
