Freak Quest time!

In this quest, you take the role of a big armed, friendly freak, who is currently adventuring with his two friends, a lizard like freak named Joey, and a strange merchant named Javak and his steed Ivas.

Previous threads can be found here:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=freak+quest

In the last session, you, Joey and the merchant embarked on your journey towards the Yellow Bazaars, riding on the merchant's steed. You mostly just chatted with Joey, and asked some questions about the world from Javak. You also got to examine a map of his, but unfortunately, it proved to be quite hard to understand, as you lack the ability to read.
Javak and Ivas decided to take a small detour to a place they called Alleyways, as they hope to gain some more information about the biogel boil that sprouted up there, and what effects it has had in the area. According to them, their master, Godal, would value the information highly.
Before you reached the place, you and Joey fell asleep however, and you two are currently sleeping soundly inside the shell of Ivas.

>How this works:
Suggest an action and the freak will act. I will try to illustrate it as well as I can. Certain actions will require 1d10 rolls to see if they are successful. There are also slightly more complicated rules for combat:

There are 3 stats, strength, toughness, and agility, in addition to them, there are hitpoints.
All stats are capped at 10, and the baseline hitpoints of a gutterborn freak like the MC are 6.

Attacks are handled like this:
The attacker rolls 2d6.
The first roll is for the attack damage, second for the speed.
Damage: 1d6+str+modifiers (if there are any)- the foe's toughness.
Speed: 1d6+agi

The target of the attack may try to either dodge or block the blow.
Dodge: 1d6+agi vs Attack speed.
Bloc: 1d6+toughness vs attack damage.
Ties go in the favor of the attacker.

These rules are still work in progress, and I appreciate any input on them.

Your current inventory is this:

>4 empty small containers.
>1 medium container with 4 and a half biogel dozes.
>1 compound eye.
>1 strange syringe of unknown purpose.
>Cutting tools.
> 2 Claw arms.
>Improved walking eye bladder.
>6 eye balls.
>Tentacle bundle.
>Bone armor.

You are also carrying a bone sword.

As this is a drawn quest, updates might take some time. Usually, my update speed is about 10-20 minutes.

I usually run this quest on Saturdays, but due to certain circumstances, I was unable to, and thus, I run this today.
I will probably be able to run this for about 4-5 hours or maybe more.

Anyways, here we go!

You are suddenly waked up by the merchant, who states that you have arrived in the alleyways.
Joey also wakes up besides you.
You can smell strange scents coming from outside.

What shall you do?
>>
Anyone here?
>>
>>23483886

I guess that people are not interested in this quest today.
>>
>>23483886
Well, I for one am interested. Just needed to boot someone out.

Collect our stuff, give Joey a reassuring pat and see what the alleyways presents.

You pack your stuff, and jump out of the shell of Ivas.
The merchant detaches himself from his steed, and rises up.
"Yees, the alleys! Unruly place, where loads of profits can be made!"

The few other freaks outside are quietly monitoring your group, but the merchant doesn't seem to be worried about them at all.
>>
>>23484862
Can we get a look at our inventory again? I think we picked up a few augs that we haven't used, right? Might as well offload them.
>>
>>23484938
Disregard that, I suck cocks.

See if anyone wants to buy our spare bits.
>>
>>23484862
Without losing sight of our merchant friend, go talk to the freak in the stall. Tell them we have need to trade goods.

I sense a good chance to use Joey's pheremone augment coming up.
>>
>>23485025
Yeah, probably need some working capital. Lets do this.
>>
>>23484938
>>23485025

We need to get the items identified too, some of them we still don't know what they are or what they do.
>>
>>23485378
nah man, just sell it at a sucker price, don't need to get anything appraised.
but keep the syringe, that's gonna be fun times in the future, I just know it.

You go to the stall with your stuff.
Javak tells Ivas to stay put, and guard their merchandise while he attends some business.

As you 3 approach the stall, the armored freak standing guard before it steps forth and says:
"What do you want here, merchant? Are you here to trade?"
"Yees, we are here to trade Khatr..well, my two little friends are, I need to talk with Char."
"Well, Char is inside the bar, unfortunately, our stock is quite limited, but I am sure that Jyz can take a look over your merchandise."

The one eyed freak looks at you and Joey and says:
"Well, what would you like to trade younglings?"
>>
>>23485606
Can he tell us what that tentacle-bundle is/does?
>>
>>23485606

I think we better have Joey handle the negotiations, since she's bound to get better prices. Let's present our items (sans syringe) and get them appraised.
>>
>>23485606
"I have a pair of Pincer Augments in good condition, they are not tainted, and this bundle of assorted eyeballs. Would you be willing to fill 3 of my cups with biogel in trade for them?"

I think we should hold the finely made bone armor until the yellow Bazaar. even though it doesn't fit us.

Were you the same guy who did the Flesh Quest way back in early 2012?

That was from Aether. OP did participate in it though.

I think those first three replies covered everything for now.

You and Joey present your stuff to the trader, while he lays out his inventory.

>>23485632
You ask about the tentacle bundle. He says that they are just normal manipulative tentacles, pretty standard stuff.

>>23485634
You tel Joey to start discussing the trade, hopefully using her pheromone glands to her advantage.

(roll 1d10 for charming the trader. Number to beat 6.)

>>23485880

The Trader states that he is willing to trade one pincer and all the six eyeballs for 4 biogel dozes, and thus filling your 4 small empty containers.

>>23486077
I didn't run that quest, but I did participate in it. I played Styx.

Sorry this took this long.

Joey manages to charm the merchant enough, for him to give you this bargain:
Instead of the claw arm, he is willing to fill all your biogel containers for one of the claws.

>>23486556

It is an augment gland. It generates mutagenic hormones that transforms sweat glands of the user into slime glands. Slime makes the user slippery and harder to grab for example.

Sorry, I should have added the names to these things the first place.
>>
>>23486694

Just noticed a fuck up in the paragraph.

I meant to write this:
Instead of the claw arm and eyes, the merchant is willing to fill all your biogel containers for just one claw.
>>
>>23486694

those claws seem to fetch a pretty good price, I'm not against this trade.

i think we'll have to get some rations so we don't drink all our biogel.
>>
>>23486694

Think it'd be possible to get the stingers and some leather, and mold it into the arm with a leather flap covering it so it'd be a concealed whip on the massive arm for our freak?
>>
>>23486828
We should trade the claw, get the hand and the knife. Then we attach the knife to the bag with an eye and have it stab things.
>>
>>23486926
Woops, attach the hand to the bag and give it the knife. Unless we could just attach the knife to it. Then we don't need the hand.
>>
>>23486694
>>23486828
Trade the Claw arm, we now have full biogel containers, that should give us 9 doses. I want to continue to trade the eyeballs, the bundle of tentacles, and whatever biogel necessary to gain the rations and knife. Should we make any other purchases?
>>
>>23486975
>>23486694
That slime gland seems like it'd be a great addition to Joey, given her hit-and-run style of combat.
>>
What do the pair of Jugs do?
>>
>>23487047

Also it would mean that she comes pre-lubed.

Although in all seriousness, I'm a little leery of adding too many more augs to either ourselves or Joey just yet; gotta take this shit slow, lest we turn into Super Vagina. On a related note to that, nice doorway in >>23484862 FQop.
>>
>>23487118

>suggestions everywhere.

we're still fairly low of augs but you're right, acclimatize properly to new augs so we don't go murder-vagina on everyone.
>>
>>23487199
>>23487118
That's why we want the knife out of this transaction. It's not an augment but can still give us additional damage. We also need 3 freshly oiled rolls of leather, so we can be preeeeeecise.
>>
It seems that the consensus is that one claw will be traded, which will grant you full biogel reserves of nine dozes.

>>23486922
That could work, though you would need to ask Javak to do the actual grafting work, as you are not yet experienced with it enough to do that complex grafting.
That would cost you 3 biogel, 2 for the stingers and 1 for leather.

>>23486926
>>23486947
That could be possible, but again, you would need the help of Javak to graft the arm in the bladder thing.
It would cost you 3 and 1/2 biogel dozes.

>>23486975
You could trade all the eyeballs, the compound eye, tentacles and 2 units of biogel for one knife and one ration.

>>23487047
The slime gland ads 1+ to dodge rolls in combat, and it, like the sensory hairs, have out of combat uses as well.

>>23487102
The Ku Jug contains a hormonal beverage that slightly bolsters the natural regenerative qualities of most freaks.
The Uz Jug contains another hormonal drink, which increases the adrenaline production of the user temporarily.

So, what trade shall you make?
>>
>>23487278
>>23486975

Think I'll go with knife and rations. Not sure why we need the leather, what am I missing here?
>>
>>23487313

Are people ok with this transaction?
>>
>>23487549

Go for it.
>>
>>23487313

Leather for bandaging purposes, I'd assume? Or maybe it's just to fashion some clothes? I dunno, it's probably the equivalent of a swiss army knife in this setting.
>>
>>23487549
I'm set. Lets go into the bar with merchant and try to listen for rumors about what house Lienis is doing with the new Nectar Boil.

You offer the six the claw, six eyeballs, the compound eye and the tentacle bundle for the knife, rations and some biogel.
This transaction leaves you with 7 dozes of biogel.
The merchant asks you if you want to keep the two empty small biogel containers, or would you like to trade them to him. He could give you a piece of leather in exchange. (Joey's charm is still having an effect.)
>>
>>23488110

So, do you want to sell the biogel containers for a patch of skin or not?
>>
>>23488110
I think keeping them for now would be best. Thank him for the deals.
>>
>>23488511
Actually, changed my mind, lets give up the spare biogel containers for now.
>>
>>23488476
>>23488511
Yes keep our empty containers and give our new knife to Joey. Let's go to the rumor mill and have some fun. Challenge someone in the bar to arm wrestle. InB4 we wind up tentacle wrestling.

You decide to keep the containers, thank the merchant for the deals, grab your purchases and head into the bar with Javak leading the way.

As you enter, you begin to hear the sounds of freaks talking and rhythmic noises that seem be coming from deeper the tunnel.
Finally, you reach the bar chamber itself.
Your entrance goes mostly unnoticed, and those who pay eye to you, only quickly examine you 3 and then return to whatever they were doing.
The merchant begins to self assuredly stride forward in the chamber.

You can hear arguments and discussions going all around you. The large armed bone headed freak standing at the table near you seems to be agitated about something, you can only pick up few sentences over the over all noises of the bar, such as:
"..noble scum..claimed the boil.. battle brother dead.." and so on.

The merchant approaches the large freak standing behind the stall at the end of the bar.
"Greetings Yzel, how's business?"
"Javak? What in the makers name are you doing here?"
"I am here just to talk with Char, I need to gather some info for Godal, about the new boil."
"You are at risk, especially now, Ultros and his rabble are at an all time edge, they don't take the Lienis presence at the new boil lightly."
"No worries, I can fend for myself."
"No doubt..who are these two little gutter runners you have with you? Slaves?"
"Not exactly, I picked them up from the gutters near the plaza entrance. Godal could get good servants from them."

The large freak shrugs and continues to chat with Javak.
"Char is upstrairs, if you want to go to talk with him, the appearance of the boil is shifting the balance of powers here, and I think he will be pleased to talk to a friendly face."

The merchant nods and turns to you two.
"Do you younglings want anything? I can buy you a drink while I go handle some business with Char."

Wow, first off great art. I want this whole scene expanded and hit some fine detail. It's the bloody mos eisley cantina of gigerworld.
>>
>>23489138

Get a drink, ask Javak for drinks recommendations. Avoid talking to the bone headed one, as he's probably Ultros. If he comes over and says that he doesn't like us, hope to fuck the merchant has a laser sword somewhere.

Javak gives the bartender a couple of orange tinted translucent chips and tells him to give you two simple blood drinks.
"The younglings don't need stronger stuff..Yees, not healthy. You two stay here until I get back, ok? Stay near Yzel and you'll be fine."

You and Joey pick up the drinks. The thing is basically a chitinous shell, from which a long, tendril like proboscis that one can drink trough.
Joey begins to drink the stuff eagerly.
"You two are ok now?" Says Javak, as he begins leaves trough the doorway to the upstairs.
>>
>>23490161

Avoid eye contact with the hungry looking freak in the corner. If he's not busy, strike up some small talk with Yzel; rumours, gossip, some more information about the world, and so on.
>>
>>23490373
Maybe starting with something like asking how long he's known Javak? Might get a couple good anecdotes about him.
>>
>>23490463

I like the way you think, good sir.
>>
>>23490161
>>23490373
No no, we'll be fine. This place seems great. We should totally chill back and listen to the conversations going on. If anyone approaches, begin lying about where we are from and where we are going. We are just business friends taking a break in our travels.
>>
>>23490494

Listening in is a good idea, although I still advise caution; Gigerworld is Darwinian up to 11, and we are pretty low on the food chain.

You lean to the stall, and begin to listen to the discussions going on in the bar.
Most of the stuff being talked here, you do not really understand, you hear stuff about nobles, gangs, skirmishes and other stuff. Most talk seems to be focused on the plaza and the new boil however.

"-the noble bastards have taken the nectar well already we can't-"

"-commands them. He is gathering forces outside of plaza right as we speak. Any able bodied freak should-"

"aughounds in the rift, beyond bulwark. The nectar is drawing them near. Pumping station will soon be over-"

"-servants are on the move. The witches are already scheming something and if Ultros doesn't put an end to it-"

"-if Lienis can't hold the well, the Great houses will intervene! That will mean the end of us!"

"The great Maker is drawing near! The avatars of the Father of Bones are coming to restore this place to it's former-"

You also ask Yzel about Javak and how long he has known him.
"Oh, well, I have known him for couple decades..yes he is a decent and honest merchant of Golbax guild. This place used to be by all rights theirs, before Ultros clan rose to power. After that, the guilds of the Yellow Bazaar have not been that welcome here. And now, with the new nectar well, I don't think that Ultros will tolerate any interfering factions in his alleys. Bad times are looming ahead of us..hmm child..why are you with Javak? You can't be older than few cycles. I can tell it by your scent."
>>
>>23490930

"We all got caught up in the fighting over the well. In the end, the only ones left alive were us and Javak; well, Ivas too, but he'd gotten injured. We three chose to work together and find Ivas; safety in numbers and all that."
>>
"Really?"
Smell self after asking. After, give a short explanation that you two helped him out a bit when was in a "vulnerable situation," so to speak. Sure, it was a bit of a rocky start, but things seem to have worked out.

Also, glance over in the direction of the freak who's just been staring at us for what's probably been a couple minutes now.

When you get to the part about the boil Yzel suddenly shushes you up and begins to speak with a low voice.
"Shhh!! It would be wise of you not to mention your involvement with the boil..unless you want to draw unnecessary atenttion to yourself child. I don't know how much Javak has told you about the world you live in, but know this: All attention is bad for you. Gaining a name for yourself, grants you the attention of those, who would either kill you or exploit you."

Suddenly, you begin to hear argument from the bone head's table.
"-lost you honorless mercenary whore!"
"Make me! In my experience, you Ultros goons are all talks and no action!"
"What! How dare you!"
"If Za-Khelan is a prime example of your might, then I have nothing to fear from you!"
"..What?! You insult one of the preators! How dare you!?"
"Your precious preator got ambushed and killed by a bunch of gutter runners earlier today! He hired me and Ealk to kill some carriage drone, but we fell into an ambush and he and Ealk got killed."
"...what..Liar! YOU LIE! He would not have fallen to some gutterspawn!"
"Believe what you want, I just thought to tell you, the gutter runners are still probably at the pumping station, feel free to scour for his body there."
"...then how did you survive?"
"I ran. I know when to flee when I am losing a fight."
"COWARDLY WENCH!!"
"I owe no allegiance to you and your clan!"

The argument seems to have caught the attention of most of the bar for now at least.

I am afraid that I'll have to end this session now.
I know that it is a shitty cliff hanger, but unfortunately, it is already over 3.30 am, and I really need to sleep.
I will continue the quest next weekend.
I apologize for the way how this and the previous session have been kinda shitty.
I will try to improve the next session, and get the story going forward again.

Once again, input and comments are appreciated.

Door now, Door door door, now now now go go go.

Chill out time is over and we are terribly sorry but we must be going. Find Jarvak and stay together in a group. Also, my goodness does Joey get this ditzy everytime she uses the pheremone gland, making her think nothing could wish her harm, or does she like sipping drinks THAT much?

Dangst man.

Can you or someone else at least archive it? I have much fun reading our adventures in the land of the freaks.
>>

Still been pretty good dude.

Also, this is something that I've wanted to mention for a while; it's not a criticism, nor is it really a suggestion (as the artwork is top notch anyway), more like an observation.

When we were all first working on Gigerworld, one of the things that stood out to me the most about the initial artwork that you did was the way in which nearly everything had something about it that was "human". Despite how horrifically deformed some of the creatures were, there was still usually a distorted human-esque face peering out at the world. For me, that ended up being a key component of the horror of the setting; that these abominations were humanity's legacy, and that in each of them you could see just a tiny aspect of humanity being swallowed up in biomechanical monstrosity, giving that whole Promethean vibe to the denizens of the world. It's not something I've seen so much in this quest, in that most creatures look much more like expressive animals than uncanny valley not-humans. This isn't a bad thing (as I think it's definitely made it easier to relate to the characters), and, as I've said before, this isn't a request to change how you're drawing this; just felt like it was something worth noting.

Thanks for the input.

I am actually quite aware of that, but unfortunately, due to the quite simplistic style in which I draw this quest, I can't really ad that much detail that would make the human likeness very apparent in these freaks.
As the canvases I use are only 600x800 pixels large, the detail I can ad to them, especially in large scenes, is quite limited.

If I were to draw these things more realistically, they would surely have more human like traits, facial features resembling humans, ears, noses and other clear indicators of their hidden humanity.
Another thing that limits adding the human like features is the speed at which I need to draw the pictures. In order to keep the pace of the quest at least at acceptable levels, I don't tend to ad that much unnecessary detail when I am running the quest itself. Figuring out how to ad the human like features to the freaks makes drawing them considerably slower.

In short, I realize the point you are raising, and I have acknowledged it myself, but unfortunately due to the nature of drawn quests on /tg/ I can't really implement the more detailed, human aspects to the appearances of the freaks, without detrimental results to the quest itself.

Also, here are some stock freak characters I managed to prepare yesterday.
Anyways, I gotta go to sleep now.

Fair enough; sleep well FQop, may your dreams be full of mead and buxom wenches.

im late to the show, and i missed freak quest again. the story is always awesome, but I would like to leave in my move for the next time the game starts. Ask Joey how she would feel about having head tentacles.

Well, you can always ask that, but you did already sell the tentacle bundle to the trader outside the bar.

Here is your current inventory:

>2 empty small containers.
>2 full small containers (2 biogel dozes)
>1 medium container with 5 biogel dozes.
>1 strange syringe of unknown purpose.
>Cutting tools.
>Claw arm.
>Improved walking eye bladder.
>1 ration package.
>Bone armor.

You are also equipped with a bone sword.
Joey has the bone knife.

Also, does anyone have any ideas on how to improve this stat/inventory picture? For example, what should I ad to the epty upper right area of the picture.

Maybe some kind of quest tracker of sorts? Listing objectives and stuff, etc.
Or maybe the map of the currently known region?
>>
>>23501827

Hmm, good ideas. Thus far however, you only have one "quest", so there is not much to keep track off.
The map of the whole district you are in is pretty massive (2500x2500), so I would have to resort to some sort of mini-map. I'll experiment on it.
>>
>>23501888
mini-map is fine, just show general blobs of where things are.

Well, here is a quick mock up.

I need to come up with easily identifiable icons to indicate stuff on the map.
>>
>>23502098
a cup for the bar, sideways bump for the boil, landmarks, etc etc. Maybe change the map when changing regions? Kinda like, say, STALKER maps. Maybe also the gangs' and groups' symbols to indicate areas with heavy influence?
>>
>>23502246

Sounds good to me.
I'll have to work those things out this week.
>>
>>23502098
looks good. perhaps attained through an in game interaction. Could potentially just show dots indicating you and party members in one color, points on interest in another color, and off map locations as a triangle facing in that direction at the edge of the map. This what if we end up taking work we can navigate to it.
>>
>>23502342

Sounds good.
The map should be easily readable. I added the red "blur" on it, to indicate fog of war basically.

Any further ideas?

Seeing how this thread is still around, we could use it to discuss general stuff about the gigerverse.

I recall that there was a google doc made about the setting, but I can't find it anymore. Does someone have the link to it?
>>
>>23504791
That should be found in the old archived gigerverse threads.

Links for everything about the setting.

Hahahahaha

Are there any people still interest in discussing this setting in this thread, or should we allow it to die?

I could probably post more stuff tomorrow, maybe even continuing your adventure.

then it must LIVE!

Also, since we are talking, what recommendations are there for the side quest game, improvements, critiques, damnations, general comments?
