(3 Fate Points)

We are Millicent Fauxly. Young witch newly accepted into the prestigious Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

We are in Ravenclaw house. Mum and Dad are furious. Our relationship with our rival Maud, a third year Slytherin student, has taken a turn for the better.

Traits:
Near-Death
>A fear of large bodies of water and being unable to stomach foods with obvious fish.
Hexer
>Natural aptitude to hexes, but not trusted by others because of it.
Supernatural Luck: Able to refresh a Fate Point on an 8, 9, & 10 on a d10.

"I don't know, I have discovered a few useful things here and there, but Sam's actions have occupied me recently, to be honest." You say.

Tooledge gives a thoughtful nod, clasing his long vainy hands together.

"Terrible business" he says, silence ensues until you think he's done with you "I'm rooting for you to win the contest. The trident will have to be taken to the ministry for evaluation and brought back here for safe keeping. Such a find however will most likely assure the house cup for this year's house, if the information you have given me is correct a student from each house has been chosen to take part in this contest."

Talk about it, surrender it to authorities.

You nod, smile and leave, a new energy fuelling you to be the first to find the Trident before the others. You descend the stairs about make your way to double muggle studies class.

Professor Orchard, a little balding man with a fat belly, hardly notices you enter his class late. You take a seat at the back and watch on as the Muggle monetary system is explained to you as well as charming little things called "Telephones" work.

I think it's suspicious that right after we say that Sam's actions have troubled us, that he says "Terrible business", pauses, and then tells us to win the Trident. And that whoever gets the Trident will in all likelihood win the House Cup for the year.
Taken by itself, Sam's poisoning of Slytherin to gain back Hufflepuff's glory doesn't make sense. But add in the context of the contest, of bumping off competition, in a contest that will win back glory for the House by acquiring the House Cup, and it makes more sense.

"I'm..I'm sorry, but I'm not very good with parties."
Leave it open that we might be badgered into it.
But we must have been forced to go to social gatherings and parties by our parents before Hogwart's; this will be just like them. We'll be badgered into going, we'll go, make the necessary and absolute minimum required social interaction as befits our social station, and otherwise be in quiet conversation with Elise.
We don't like most of these people, but we know when we are expected to suffer for the purposes of social expectations.

Reading up on the Trident there is a listed event of when it was used in Hogwarts. According to a very old book you found detailing the history of the Slytherin house, Rowena Ravenclaw had the Trident stolen from her possession by Salazar so he could covet her knowledge.

As for the Mannequin you get very lucky. You discover that it is possible to capture spirits and other otherworldly ethers in crystal balls. What's more the entity inside the ball has a degree of control over it...muggles have been known to find these crystal spirit orbs and use them for theatricality.

If you were to build a clockwork mannequin with an orb heart in the middle you might just be able to give Nathaniel the body he desires.

They act as if all of the students can simply resleave themselves from memory backups if something goes wrong.
>>
>>23385818
Well, in their defense, magical healing is available and easy. If it doesn't kill you immediately, it probably won't at all. Not that this is a good excuse for such negligence, mind you.
>>
>>23386172
>Not that this is a good excuse for such negligence, mind you.
Actually, when you think about it, such a casual disregard for safety, combined with the easy availability of effective magical healing and the kind of knowledge being imparted, it makes sense and is actually kind of a good excuse.

They're showing how carelessness, combined with the powers and magical creatures that even First Years wield and interact with, can result in painful injuries and even near-death.

Because, aside from the Professors, I don't recall any Wizard or Witch being so careless outside the walls of Hogwarts. Maybe it's all part of a very hands-on and direct policy of showing students the consequences of negligence in the wizarding workplace.
