Hello, /tg/.
I've had a day to rest and plan some more, and I promised I would run today.

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Digimon%20Quest

The true reason for our partnership shakes Zoe, I can see it. This is a huge turn of events, who wouldn't take pause? Aslan, however, simply looks more resolute; I get the feeling he didn't need any more reason to protect Zoe already, and this just gives him one more.

The mention that there are other partner teams out there, though, seems to put Zoe's mind at ease, if only a bit.

This gives me an idea, though;

Zoe and I had trouble already, and there's no way that had to go undetected. If I'm right, others should have similar occurrences. And everyone knows everything strange gets put on the internet, one way or another.

opening the computer, I begin to search for strange events, specifying them happening recently, or locally.

As expected, I get a lot of results. Too many to search through one by one.

I narrow the search down, adding the word "Monster" in.

Only a couple hundred, and there, on the first page, is an article about my hometown.

"Unidentified machine causes multiple explosions at local high school: 10 injured."

Despite my initial fear, it's not my school, but the other school, across town. Apparently, something resembling a metallic beatle showed up, and witnesses claimed it was fighting..something They couldn't identify. Once the police showed up, both disappeared. Interestingly, none of the explosions wounded anyone; all the injuries sustained were from the other creature.

mulling over this, I show the article to the others.

Zoe frowns, not particularly pleased that others were hurt, even if no one died. Sally's expression remains neutral, while Aslan growls to himself. Sighing to myself, I...

>And once more, I forget my name. Ugh.
>>
[X] Stand up, grab Sally's hand, and head to pack, with our partner's help. We need to be prepared.
-[X] While packing, check out the digivice, together with Sally.

I don't think calling the parents will help, here (certainly not calling Zoe's parents who, from what I can tell, are never around)

Also, hey, Gale - does Wayne know how to make any apple-related food?
If we get some really big victories, I think we could do with some celebration, and Sally said she liked eating apples before.
>>
So, we know there is at least one other fellow around who has a digimon.
That's pretty good news, isn't it?

And, here's the Evolution Path.
Hey, Gale, how many points do we have, right now...?
>>
Heh, seems Zoe is a fan of C. S. Lewis.
Glad to see one of the suggested names got picked.
>>
Hm, say, can Sally use her wind magic to help us pack?
Because that, or her large hands (which were still quite agile, given how she unbuckled herself from her broom), seems like it'd be really helpful in packing.
>>
>>23341176
Clarifying, I meant can she use her wind magic to help us pack, by moving multiple things around at once?
>>
>>23341014
So hey.
Anyone else ok with this option?
>>
>>23340902
Heh, I was searching for 'Gale' on the Archives, so i'm glad you posted with your name now.
Anyway, I do think we can set up multiple things at once. Maybe not talking to the parents, but I think that we can definitely afford to pick both the digivice and packing options, for instance.

Zoe probably shouldn't pack, though, since she's ill
>>
>>23340887
So, no picture of the digimon fighting the giant beetle one, then?
Damn, that's a shame. If we could've gotten a picture, Sally or maybe Aslan could've identified the one who was hurting others. Ah well...
Also, how're you doing, Gale?
>>
Hm, packing and generally preparing seems to be what we're aiming for, here...
>>
>>23341085
>I haven't tallied up the seventh thread's points yet, but as of the sixth, you had 305.

>>23341014
>If wayne doesn't know any apple-related recipes, then you can spend some time learning them...

>>23341403
if Zoe doesn't pack, will you?

>>23341469
>Very well, thank you. And you, anon?
>>
>>23341509
Yeah, if Zoe doesn't pack, we definitely should - I like the idea of packing together with Sally.
>>
>>23341509
305 points?
Nice!

And, if we go with my plan, I vote we tell Sally we're going to learn some apple-related recipes.
Should brighten her day, I figure.

Speaking of, I think the plan to go and pack while checking the digivize when we've got the time is ahead?
>>
>>23341045
Thining about it, it's only good news if the partner of that big beetle is a friendly type...
>>
>>23341014
Forgot to ask...
Gale, would my free response thing work?
I remember people talking about making Zoe jealous, and, well, this seems to fit in with that, while also getting us more time with Sally
>>
>>23340887

Go to the nearest location of a monster attack. Scout for recruits. It there are more of us, we're going to want to know who they are and that we can get a hold of them. Zoe and Aslan can pack while we're gone.
>>
>>23341745
Hm, I wouldn't mind this idea, but...
We're going to need to travel with Sally, since we'd be heading into a place where there might be hostile digimon.
Won't that bring attention upon us?
>>
>>23341810

Not if she loses the hat. If we can find her a coat to hide the freakishly large hands, then we can just carry the broom and hat.

Granted, she'll still look like a crazy cat lady, but that's a step towards normal, at least.

>>
>>23341865
Hm, true...
And it would let us get some information out to others, as well, which can be vital for this.
However, Zoe is ill, and Aslan doesn't strike me as that good with packing - how about we pack, and then we and Sally go out?
>>
>>23341959
...Oh.
Right.
Er, yeah, she should pack that kind of stuff on her own - and we can pack everything else.
>>
>>23341959
Hm, maybe a round of packing for everyone because i don't want to subject Wayne to trying to tell Zoe she should let him pack certain stuff belonging to her, followed by us and Sally going out to see about what other people with digimon could be doing, as >>23341745 suggested?
>>
>>23341959

That's more or less what I was thinking. I'm just not sure how leaving the hat and broom behind would work, assuming it would at all. This whole having separable bits thing Sally's got going on is really weird.
>>
>>23342087
We can ask her, though, can't we?
Or test it out, if she wouldn't know, by picking her cat-part up in our arms, and walking a bit away from her, see how that affects her.
We should walk very slowly, if we do that, obviously.
>>
>packing it is, then.
>Afterwards. we can decide whether we want to investigate the school, fiddle with the digivice, or what-have you.
>>
>>23342168
Hopefully packing with Sally!
And, yeah, after that we've got that choice, and I think I for one have become convinced by >>23341745, so we should probably head and investigate.
>>
>>23342168
Packing is good, though I'd try and cool it with Sally slightly, at least around Zoe and Aslan.
I'm not saying that we should treat her any less nicely, just maybe refrain from overt flirting.
I really hope they don't make talking about Sally and us behind our backs a habit.
>>
>>23343192
That wouldn't be pleasant, yeah - but we can't exactly expect them to just sit and not do anything while we move about.
...If we notice them talking bad about us a lot, though, we could just 'happen' to walk in while they talk at some point?
We know Aslan doesn't really like us or Sally.
>>
You know, eventually we really should try and tell Aslan to back off on us, a little.
We've been nothing but friendly to Zoe and him.
>>
Did Gale get distracted by something...?
>>
>>23343710
However, I do think Aslan might have a point when he said the only thing Sally gives a fuck about is us.
Like the way she heard about that article about a digimon battle and didn't really seem to care could be seen as troubling.
>>
I stand, and stretch briefly, feeling my joints protest at the movement so suddenly. It's time we packed. I've been putting it off thise whole time, believing that thwere would be time enough for it, but now that I know more about the situation, I know we have to be prepared.

Sally stands as well, somehow sensing my intent.

"We're going to need to be ready, everyone." I turn to Zoe and nod off in the direction of her room. "You might wanna go pack; that's what I'll be doing, anyway." She blinks, then looks at me questioningly.

"Pack what? All that's here is what we bought-" Then she remembers the bags my dad brought over. "Oh."

"Yeah, those." Pick one of them up, finding it not even half-filled. Check inside, I find the food I had packed, and some of the survival tools. The gear we bought at the store can go in here, I reason, while our clothes can go in the other one. Handing the other bag off to Zoe, she heads upstairs to pack her own things while I begin to try and arrange the things we picked out in the best way. There's a lot of stuff for this one duffel bag, and if I want to fit it all, I'm going to have to get creative. Especially when it comes to carrying it, and that tent.
>>
>>23344050
Once that particular issue is resolved, however, everything else fits easily enough. The bag itself comes out weighing quite a bit more than I thought it would, but at the same time, it's lighter than it *could* have been. Setting the accumulated supplies back down, I sit in one of the chairs, thinking.

We have proof that other digimon are not only out there, they're causing a good deal of trouble- us included.

There doesn't seem to be any sort of pattern to these outbreaks; the Bakemon at the sporting good store were there for a while, apparently, and the school incident is not only all the way across town, it's far more recent, and only involved two from what I read.

I can hear Zoe still packing upstairs, with the house as quiet as it is, and Sally's still beside me, her gaze not unsettling, but not exactly calming either.

Aslan, on the other hand, is taking turns glaring at me and Sally at a time, obviously on guard. I know he doesn't like Sally, and that's somewhat understandable, given his apparent need to guard Zoe, but I'm not sure what his deal with me is.

Talk to Aslan.

I say we just flat out ask him why he doesn't like us.
>>
>>23344060

Fiddle with the digivice unless Aslan doesn't give it up. If that's the case, we go the direct route. "What is your problem?"
>>
>>23344060

let us take this time to examine the Digivice.

i fear that going to help Zoe will result in us entering as she is deciding what undergarments to pack, and will cause her to emit a brief yelp of surprise summoning Aslan to rush to her, who will be followed by Sally then we will all be in her room looking at her undergarments that she would still be holding, forgetting to put them down due to her surprise. she will then get really embarrassed and Aslan will like us less for it...
so yeah, DON'T do that...
>>
>>23343815
He disliked her before that, though.
He's kind of pushing it, far as that goes, since we really haven't given him any reason to dislike us.

OK, he is right about Sally only caring about us, but it's not like he can complain, given he certainly doesn't seem to give a damn about us, for one.
>>
>>23344150

......... I know what you are trying to do here.

and damn it it's working
>>
>>23344060
[X] Smile at Sally
-[X] "I was thinking of learning how to cook something apple-related at some point - would you mind helping me, when I do?"
[X] Eventually, turn and look at Aslan, as he glares at you, while Zoe is gone
-[X] "...OK, what is your problem with me? I have been NOTHING but kind, and doing my best to help my friend, Zoe, even going so far as to help you meet her in the first place."

Sally > Aslan.
We should talk to her first.
>>
>>23344150
Plus, going after Zoe means we can't confront Aslan about why he apparently thinks we're evil personified, or something.
>>
>>23344060
I have a question for both Sally and Aslan.
Somehow they knew that those ghosts we fought were called 'Bakemon'.
Based on the descriptions in the article, do they have any idea what those two digimon who fought at the school might be?
>>
So, we've got a basic idea of talking to the digimon, right?

I motion for Sally to sit beside me, moving over to make room, and she does so happily, making sure her large claws and the blades on said claws never come near us. I have to smile at her enthusiasm.

"I was thinking of learning to cook something with apples at some point- would you mind helping me when I do?" I ask, and she nods emphatically.

"Of course!" She answers. I can still feel Aslan glaring at us from the other side of the room, at which point I turn to the irritable lion, bearing a frown of my own.

"Alright, Fuzzy- what the hell is your problem?" He blinks, seemingly surprised that I even addressed him, and I press the advantage. "When have I ever done anything to you? I've been civil and kind this entire time, and even went out of my way to help you meet your partner, who happens to be my best friend. I'm just a little confused, you see, as to why my partner and I are the ones who have to deal with this."

Sally's not smiling anymore, and I can feel her tense up beside me. A hand on her shoulder gets her to back down, but she doesn't relax just yet. Aslan, for his part, isn't done either.

"You're both potential threats, as things stand. You," He looks at me, "You, I don't know enough about, and Zoe trusts you far too much. That kind of trust can get someone killed, and from what I hear, Digimon have it easier than humans in that respect. And You," He full-on glares at Sally. "You're worse. You only care about Wayne, and not the damage you do when fighting. Your powers are destructive, and are no longer holy, and you still claim your bond to be sanctioned by the gods." Aslan turns and begins walking in Zoe's direction, glaring at us over his shoulder. "Zoe being around either of you can only end badly, and I will not allow anything like that to befall my partner." His peace said, he plods up the stairs, his steps silent.

Looking at Sally, I can only manage a "Huh."

I say we leave a note and go investigate that metal bug. There's been far too much time between actually doing something and just talking.
>>
>>23346427
We need to get Sally to evolve to Angewoman just once to rub it in his little face.
>>
>>23346427
Whoa, Aslan's is way more abrassive when Zoe's out of the room
>>
>>23346427

Oh, good. Religious indignation. That never goes poorly. Maybe we can find one of the guys from the school attack and trade Alsan for them.
>>
>>23346427
So, the cat doesn't think our union is sanctioned by the gods anymore, does he?
Dude shouldn't complain about only caring about someone, though, seems kind of hypocritical.
Eh, whatever.

[X] Reach out and hurriedly take cat-Sally onto your lap
-[x] Scratch behind ears, to calm her down.
-[X] Comfort your partner, she is the most important.
-[X]"Screw the jerkish things Aslan said, alright Sally? Dude obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. We're partners, you and me."
-[X] Write note, telling Zoe we're going out to check up on the other digimon.
-[X] "Hey, Sally, from these descriptions, do you think you could tell me who the digimon in the news were?"

This seems like the best option - it calms Sally down, comforts her in case she's got any doubts, and gets us started on finding out about the other digimon.
While also getting us away from Aslan for a while, letting tempers cool.
>>
>>23346436

"You make a fair point. In so far as Sallys Destructive capabilities. If trust is such a terrible thing, then, by your own logic, why should Zoe trust YOU, someone she has known for little more than one day!? And as far as Sallys 'sanctioning' by the Gods, If something is threatening both them AND the Digital world, do you really believe that You Alone are capable of saving them!?"
*take a deep breath*
"You may not trust me or Sally, but I assume that you do trust your partner, Zoe. If so, then why can you not trust her judgement on the situation. If not, then I apologize for having the pleasure of being friends with Zoe."
>>
>>23346590

>>
>>23346590

This sounds very good. Lets head off
>>
>>23346631
I'm just trying to calm her down - she got tense when we started arguing with Aslan here.
We saw her feel better after we scratched the cats ears, as it calmed her down.
And she sure seemed overjoyed at the partnership being sanctioned by the gods - having that be insulted doesn't strike me as a terribly smart move, so comforting/calming Sally down seems like a good idea, given what can happen if she's upset.
>>
>>23346436
Ask Sally to elaborate on what 'holy' means in this context?
Like why did she have it when she was a Salamon and not when she's a, whatever she is now (I don't think we ever talked about what this form is called yet?).
Also tell her we trust her, since we still have no reason not to.
>>
There's a very simple way to gain the lion's trust. Tell him that if Sally ends up hurting Zoe through carelessness Wayne will end himself. That makes her more careful about her attacks, and has her looking out for Zoe.
>>
>>23346780
Or we don't let the little cat control how we interact with Sally, because that frankly is none of his business.
I like Zoe as much as the next person, but I do not want Aslan to get his way by insulting us, Sally and our bond with one another.
>>
If we leave a note, let's make sure it's politely worded, not mentioning any argument.
Zoe might find out about it, sure, but it's not going to be from us telling.
I do think it'd be kind of funny if Aslan turned out to be horrible at keeping a secret from her, so she finds out that way
>>
>>23346821
What do you mean his way? Both Wayne and him want to keep Zoe safe. If it takes a compromise to get the team working well then so be it.
>>
>>23346681
Hey, glad you agree.
Anyone else fine with it?

I explained my reasoning behind it here >>23346685, and it seems like a decent plan to me.
>>
>>23346870

No we can keep Zoe safe without letting the little furball get his way like that. But that could be saved for later either way.
>>
>>23346870
Yeah, we want her safe, but not to the point where we create a permanent threat to our safety that Sally will always have in the back of her head.
That has got Aslan sour like this, who knows what it'll do to our companion?
>>
Actually...
How's Sally looking after what Aslan said?
Because, I got to admit, I like this >>23346590
idea for getting us to move (and if she looks upset it seems like an even better idea to try and calm her down before writing the note and heading out).

Sally, for her part, is handling herself well.

I think.

Her claws are tensed, and the blades on her wrists have extended a good deal further than they were previously. She's shivering, slightly, shaking with repressed emotion. The cat on her shoulder has gone still as well, its eyes fixed on where Aslan was before. Slowly, I place a hand on her shoulder, the contact seeming to break her from the anger-inspired trance she was in.

"C'mon, Sally. Ignore him. He's being a snob, and a hypocrite. We're partners, and nothing a stuck-up cat like that says is going to change that. I trust you."

She doesn't say anything in reply, but she does calm down, taking deep breaths, before adjusting her hat. Turning back to me, she smiles apolegetically.

"Okay," I let out a sigh of half-relief, before turning back to the computer. "Based off of the description alone, do you think you'd be able to identify the digimon this is talking about?" She thinks about it, looking at the article, but with the lack of pictures, she's forced to shake her head 'no.'

"Not with this lack of actual detail. If I could see the digimon, maybe, but I think it'd be most effective in person. Things like that just seem to...click with me."

I nod, kind of expecting this. It's not like I can identify just any human based off a few scant details. Why should Sally be able to do the same?

...aside from being magical. That apparently helped.

"Alright, then." I begin, closing the laptop after getting the address down. Jotting down a quick note to Zoe about going to check out the school that was attacked, I unlock the door, allowing Sally out before me. Her Broom is back in her hands, I notice, and idly I wonder if she can call it to her, or if she'd always had it with her.
>>
>>23348719
It's still very early out, and there aren't many people out and about, thankfully. Still, it's slightly chilly, and Sally's wearing a sleeveless dress, so I grab one of the coats on our way out and drape it over her shoulders, finding it just the right length to cover her arms and the broom she's carrying.

With that settled, we set off for the school.

It's not as large as mine, is my first thought.

Then again, some of it is missing, so that may have been a contributing factor.

There are multiple craters, the ground scorched wherever one of the dips pops up, the cracked earth a charred black compared to the asphalt gray around it.

Some of the police tape is still up, but for the most part, it's empty.

I'm guessing it was cleared out earlier, because there aren't even any teachers here. No police, either.

Looking at Sally, I can see she's tensed up again, this time probably spoiling for something to take her frustrations out on.

I...

"Keep calm," I tell her, "There's no telling what we might run into, and it might not be an enemy. If it is, feel free to send it straight to digihell." I pause, and think. "There...is a digihell, right?" Sally sends me a strange look, like she doesn't know what I'm talking about.

"...nevermind. Anyway, let's just be calm while we do this, alright?" She nods, and takes another breath.

"Right, Wayne." She pulls the coat tighter around herself, doing her best to look, at the very least, human.

I can see the building consists of two levels and a roof, much like my own, but there are no side buildings, and the field is much smaller. No- wait, there is a side building, but it's around the back, not the side like ours.

true. ask Sally her opinion.

To the roof. It provides the best vantage point, and it will allow for Sally to get a better 'reading' of the grounds.
>>
>>23349175
Ask Sally is she can sense any digimans around.
>>
>>23349278
That sounds like a good idea to me.
But is today a weekend or something?

>>
head to the roof, at the very least we get a better idea of the layout of the school
>>
>Today is a weekend, yes. There won't be many witnesses if you start something, but there may still be enough people to convince authorities they aren't crazy.

"Sally, can you tell if any other digimon are around?"

She tilts her head, as though listening for something, but somehow, subconsciously, IC an tell this goes beyond sound. She's feeling for other digimon with every sense she posesses.

After a short while, she shakes her head.

"I can't get a proper feel of this place. It's like something's keeping me from sensing things here. Maybe if we were high up, I'd be able to bypass that, but down here, no."

Alright, so we simply need to get higher. I look back at the school, and take in the details.

Several walls were blown out by explosions, and the front of the building is an absolute mess.

Whatever fought here, it had no problem endangerous others.

Stepping carefully through one of the holes, then helping Sally through next, I take in the first destroyed classroom.

Whebn I say destroyed, I mean it.

This place must have been in total flames earlier, because there's practically nothing left of it all.

Desks are melted, the blackboards blackened further, whiteboards are slag, and the projector is a useless heap of plastic and metal and glass.

Looking into the hall through the shattered door, I can see evidence of a far greater struggle; the lockers lining the halls are shredded, and some of them have holes punched clean through.

It's like someone took a tank to the school.

Looking around, I feel I should...

move up to higher ground to let Sally get a better sense of the area. though we should also try to determine what kind of attacks may have been used during the fight.
Melted desks suggest non-combustion based heat, as they melted as opposed to burned, though the carbonation of the blackboard would contradict that as carbonation is a by-product of incomplete combustion...

I do think we need to confirm to Sally that we don't give a damn what anyone says, we're partners and we're meant to be on each others side.
The best way to do that, I think, would be to make some apple-related food with her.
Both working together with her to make something, as well as provide her favorite food.

Also, it's not like LadyDevimon would be hostile to us, or something (seems like the opposite is rather more likely, given the path we're going on) - or maybe I misunderstood what you meant

assuming that we don't get overly riled up and demand that she Digivolve or vent copious quantities of negative emotions through her...

maybe we should take up meditation or some such to help allow us to keep calm, even in the most dire of situations... Zoe may be liable to have heavily emotional reactions to the sheer number of distressing things that we may see in the Digital world, thusly we need to be an emotional anchor that she can retain her base personality and sanity though...

Plus, if we do get into a dangerous situation, leaving room for our partner to freely fly around and use her powers seems like the best option.
Especially if we get lucky and any hostile attacker can't fly.
>>
>>23362527

That could end very poorly. Either we're left next to the target, which is obviously bad, or we're sitting on the broom with Sally, meaning we're literally on top of a target. We need to count on both of them flying at a safe distance from squishy little us.
>>
>>23362617
Hm, true.
I do think we'd be safest with Sally, since she's a fast-moving target who can move in 3 dimensions, but you're right in that it's probably something we shouldn't risk if we've got another way.
>>
The Second floor seems like a better bet. At first.

Cautiously climbing the stairs, I notice that not even this part of the school was spared from the battle that occurred here.

Chunks of the stairwell are utterly destroyed, and the landing feels uneven as we edge along, avoiding the more obviously damaged parts and skirting along actual holes in the stairs.

Whatever fought here had no compunctions about endangering others, or spared no thought about the damage they were causing.

Upon reaching the second floor, I can now see why there was so much debris on the first; there are numerous craters and gaping holes in the floor, and even the ceiling is cracked and damaged.

Metal piping and reinforcing bars jut out from some of these holes, and the two of us are forced to wind our way through a maze of what amounts to spikes to get to the other end of the hall, where the next flight of stairs is.

There are burn marks here, too, and some of the lockers are also melted, though the burns are much more focused now. Rather than just the sign of an explosion, it's almost like something incredibly hot was stabbed into the metal rows. Something with two prongs, from what I can tell by the warped locker.

Moving on, I can see furrows carved into the ground, as though something were dragged, or torn, through the tile and concrete, and from the size of the trails, it was something big.

I still can only piece together a small bit of this, and, looking to Sally, she can't help much either.

We do make it to the rooftop exit, eventually, and upon opening the door, I'm surprised to find the roof itself is mostly untouched. The fight never made it up here, apparently.
>>
>>23362724
Sally passes me, striding out to stand in the center of the roof. Closing her eyes again, I can tell she's reaching out, trying to sense other Digimon, or perhaps get a "feel" for the battle itself.

Then her eyes shoot open, and she whirls to face me, eyes wide and body tensed. I can hear my digivice in my pocket emitting a odd beeping noise.

"One of them is still here."

I follow Sally's gaze, looking into the dark of the stairwell, and not seeing anything. That really should scare me more than it does.

Sally looks like she's about to leap back into the building, but she stops once I hold up a hand, asking her to wait.

"Whoever's in there, could you please come out?" I ask, projecting my voice slightly, so that while not raised, my question does carry.

There's no immediate response, but someone-or something- does move. Taking that as a sign to continue, I keep speaking.

"Please, I can promise you; if you come out, and we speak civily, then I will have no reason to try and attack you." I then spared Sally a glance, who seemed to be doing alright, at the very least keeping her impulse to fight under control.

There's silence for a short while, but then I hear something.

Footsteps.

They grow louder as whoever it is comes nearer, and Sally tenses again, this time on guard.

We're both surprised when a teenager steps out onto the roof with us.

He's only an inch or two taller than I am, and I estimate he's around my age, but his build resembles that of an athelete. He's most likely in some kind of contact sport, judging by the cord-like muscles I can see in his arms.

He's wearing very simple clothes, just a tee and some jeans, with simple-looking sneakers, but the way he carries himself, he wouldn't look out of place in something more formal. His dark-nearly black- hair is cut short, but not close, and his eyes are a clear blue.

He appears relaxed, but I can see from the way he stands that he's just as ready to move as Sally is.
>>
>>23365125
I hold up both my hands as a sign that I mean no harm, and he looks me over, studying me just as I had him. When he speaks, it's with a faint, but still present Russian accent.

"What are you doing here?" His words aren't accusing, but they still carry an edge of uncertainty. Doing my best to keep my voice level, and surprisingly succeeding, I answer,

"We came to investigate what happened here. I was worried..." I pause, thinking my next words through. "I was concerned that whatever did this would come back."

The Russian boy sends me an odd look, and nods slowly.

"The police were all over this place. What did you think you would find that they did not?" I narrow my eyes at his tone, suspicious and somewhat mocking, but I keep my cool and stay polite.

"That may be, but my friend here is very adept at finding things." She found you, after all.

He frowns, and looks behind him, before suddenly grinning, and turning back to face the two of us.

"Your 'friend,' she is one of them, right?" Sally stiffens, on high alert, and he nods, before digging into his pocket.

"Ja, I thought so. So, that would mean you have..." He pulls his hand out, holding something silver and blue. "One of these?"

In his hand is a digivice, just like mine.

Behind him, I can see something vaguely-humanoid, short and with two large ear-like protrusions from its head. That must be his digimon, then.

The boy takes a step forward, and holds out his hand, still grinning.

"Daniil Kravec. I just transferred in a couple of weeks ago. This is my school."

Slowly, I reach out, and grab his hand, shaking it.

"Wayne Rogers. I go to the school across town."

He then looks over my shoulder at Sally, and his smile changes.

"Then this is your partner, ja? I must admit, you did not do badly, Wayne Rogers."

Sally lifts an eyebrow, and I myself am not sure how to respond to that.

Adk him if he also got the message, and if he wants to team up for the upcoming fights.

Ask him to introduce his partner first off, I suppose.

"Ask him" is what I meant.

Add a pic of the digimon in question!

If this guy just moved here from Russia, whatever you do don't smile.

Then introduce our partner and ask him if he knows what happened.

i second the motion of introducing Sally, asking about the battle that occurred here and asking him about any communication he may or may not have had with the Digi-Gods.

It is best to not ask him to join us just yet.
Having multiple teams embark upon the mission should increase the rate at which we can gather information.
Trading contact information should be sufficient for this time; assuming that he is willing to do such. Maybe the Digivices could assist in this endeavor.
>>
>>23365161
It's the russian guy talked about while the basic ideas were added?
Holy shit, I'm SO glad we didn't attack.

[X] Feel...unhappy at anyone looking at Sally this way.
-[X] She's YOUR partner.
-[X] "...Right, uh, so, did you get a message about what was happening? Because we got one, and besides talking about this Gate everyone is going to walk through, it also said some disturbing stuff.
Maybe some notes can be compared - do you have a cellphone number you can give me?"
[X] "Also, the fight - what happened, there, if you don't mind me asking?"
>>
>>23365161

Compare notes. Before we go anywhere, we find out who his partner is, and what he knows. If what he knows fits with what we've found out and his digimon is cleared with Sally, we call Zoe for a group meeting somewhere relatively private and very much not her house.

I don't think we can gain Aslan's trust.
He seems set to think the worst of us.

Anyway, can I suggest we also distract him from Sally?
Don't want to risk pissing off anyone by having him leer at our partner.

See, this is great!
If we can get friends with him, that really helps our odds, because now there's 3 of us, that we know about and hopefully soon 4, if the Swedish guy talked about in the decision threads for this Quest joins up as well

The way this Daniil is looking at Sally, it makes me... I'm not sure what the word for this feeling is, but I do not like it. Frowning, I clear my throat, and he looks back to me, his expression confused, and I force myself to stay at least somewhat neutral in tone.

"I'd really appreciate it if you didn't...stare at Sally like that." He blinks, then nods as a look of understanding dawns on him.

"Oh, I see. Then she is your-"

"She is my partner," I say, cutting him off. "And I don't really like the idea of people ogling my partner like that."

Daniil shrugs, and nods.

"I think I can see what you mean. I would not like that if my partner was as-" He trails off, keeping in mind what I just said. "Right, right. My apologies."

Coughing into my fist, I try to start over.

"Well, then. Let's try that again. I'm Wayne, and this is Sally." He nods, and then indicates his own partner.

"Daniil, and this is my friend, Impmon." The digimon takes this as a cue to leave the safety of the doorway, and I can now see just what is is that Daniil got as his partner.

The little creature is about the size of a small child, with purple skin, clawed feet and hands, a tail, and two horn-like ears. His posture and expression suggest a mischievious personality.

The creature spares Sally and myself a curious glance, but doesn't say anything.

Focusing on Daniil again, I indicate the digivice in his hand.

"So, you got chosen, too? I take it you got a message as well?"

He nods, and pulls out a smartphone, opening a window and handing it to me.

"Right here. I don't know what it's all about, but it looks serious."

Scrolling through, I can see that he had the same idea I did, and tried to communicate. The questions and answers went much the same as mine, though it took him several more tries to get them right.
>>
>>23366373
Handing it back, I next wave my hand in the school's general direction.

"So, what happened here?" His expression darkens, and though it's not directed at me, something about the other day's events definitely pissed him off.

"It was a monster. MY partner's good, but that thing was absurd. It was like some sort of troll from a fairy tale, and just as thirsty for blood." He shudders, and the little creature beside him growls, touching a spot on its arm where a red bandana is tied. From the way the cloth is knotted, I can see it's meant to be a bandage rather than a fashion statement. Daniil continues, his voice just as bitter.

"The beast was strong. Very strong. It had this...this club, with spikes, and horns longer than my partner is tall. All that damage, that was not caused by fire? That was him. Impmon can throw fireballs, but they just weren't enough." Then his expression changes to something a bit more satisfied. "Impmon got him good, though, before he was knocked out of the fight."

Something about the story, and the carnage downstairs, doesn't fit. There were two different kinds of heat damage, but if what Daniil says is true, Impmon uses only fire.

I look to Sally, and the hesitates, before nodding. They may not be allies at the moment, but they're not the ones we're after here.

Hehe...
Seems Daniil understands what's up way better than we do.

>>23366384
Let's ask him if he knows the name of the enemy he fought.
Could give us some extra info.

[X] Do you know the name of the one who fought you, then?
>>
>>23366384
That is worrying me, as well.
However, there is apparently two different kinds of heat damage here, so that could explain it.
Let's give the guy the benefit of the doubt here.

For what it's worth, I do think we should ask about the other source of heat damage, see if there was any other digimon fighting.
>>
>>23366382

[so ogremon confirmed opponent. he Does have some heat based attacks...]

ask if Daniil knows of any other 'chosen', and what happened to the digimon they were attacking. mayhap regale our tale of dealing with the Bakemon, excluding details about Zoe, just referring to her as 'our friend'...
>>
>>23366382

Priority one shifted. If they didn't get rid of the thing that did this, it's still out there. We will bond like men. It is time to hunt.
>>
>>23366382
"So what are the two of you doing back here anyways. Do you think it might have come back?"
>>
>>23366612
Oh hey, you think the one who fought the metal beetle is an ogremon?
That seems like it'd make sense, to me - and getting into a fight with that one would be interesting.

especially if Aslan finds out we just fought down an ogremon, and he wasn't there because he was a jerk
>>
>>23366670
Ask the name first, though - if we can get that, Sally could maybe know who it is.
And info is key.

Also?
It really amuses me that we can become bros with a guy who has a digimon with an evolution path to another Great Demon Lord
>>
We seem to have a basic idea of what to do, then?
>>
>>23366742
You know if we bro it up with impmon then it will give alsan more ammo for the whole unholy thing.
Not that we should care.
>>
>>23366818

I'm not inclined to care much about what Aslan thinks, after the way he insulted our bond with Sally.
Not to mention saying he just flat out won't trust us.

>>23366818
>>23366885
It might be possible to bro it up with him, you know. He just needs the right...push.
>>
>>23366923

Perhaps down a flight of stairs.
>>
>>23366971

[while looking up data regarding Impmon, one of his possible Digivolutions IS Ogremon...]

{he could also Digivolve into Wizardmon, so possible team-attack with Sally there...
>>
>>23366923
Clearly, we must save Zoe from something.
>>
>>23367018
Ogremon?
Could we be in the process of being suckered?
Should we ask the guy about the metal beetle thing?
>>
>>23367078
Gee only now do you think something is off.
>>
>>23367078
It's what I think we should do - getting any information we can here is important, and if there's some inconsistency...

I hope there's not, because I kind of like this group

>>23366923
What could work, then?
We gave food, we helped get him to Zoe, hell, we protected Zoe from the Bakemon.
Or is it more that we have to save her from a direct attack?
>>
>>23367078

Remember, Meta knowledge is Meta.
I can convey speculation regarding the data Gale provides, but this speculation utilizes information that Wayne does not have access to.

Wayne Could inquire about the metal beetle that was seen. Though IF his impmon can divivolve into Ogremon, it could be that his partner was reverted back to it's child form to hide it from the authorities.
>>
>>23367125
To be fair, they've been pretty ok with us thus far.
But yeah, as has been said, info is key.
>>
>>23367171

While we have no reason to think he's trying to screw us over, it would be entirely reasonable to ask about the beetle thing we read in the papers about. I mean, that is what brought us here in the first place.
>>
>>23367171
Let's check to see if our Digivice has any kind of SCAN function like the D-Arc from Tamers. We could try to narrow down some stuff in that manner.
>>
"Do you know what you fought, exactly?" I ask, and Danill scratches his chin, thinking.

"Impmon did not know what it was called, but that does not mean your Sally might not know."

I'm about to ask him more, when a thought strikes me.

"Daniil, just what exactly happened to the digimon you fought? You didn't defeat it, right?"

He shakes his head, looking rather pained as he does so.

"That is why we came back. If it was still here, we would have tried to ambush it, finish what we started."

I have to concede that it's what I'd do if it were me. Hell, it's what we're doing now, and we weren't involved before.

"So, do you think it's still here? Or could it have escaped?" I ask, and then Sally speaks up, her tone serious.

"What color was this digimon?" When Daniil just looks at her in confusion, she presses the question. "This is important."

The Russian boy thinks to himself, then looks to Sally.

"Red. It was red. Like dried blood, or sand in one of your deserts."

This information seems to satisfy my partner, but at the same time, she doesn't relax.

"Do you know what it is?" I ask, and she nods, her expression twisting into a mask of displeasure.

"A Fugamon. They're a branch of the Ogremon species. Fast, dangerous, and very strong." Daniil snorts.

"We could have told you that."

I hold up a hand, asking for quiet. Thinking to myself, I recall the details of the article, comparing them to the story Daniil's told us.

There's one major inconsistency.

>oh, there it is.

"The beetle." Both the Russian boy and his partner now have their eyes locked on me. I keep speaking, looking the other human in the eye as I do. "There was another digimon mentioned by wtinesses. A large, metallic beatle. Now, I don't know how far along your partner can digivolve, but I'm not going to just let that slip. Was the other Digimon an ally in your fight? I'm going to assume he was, since you'd have mentioned him when I asked who did this, and there is literally no reason to keep an enemy secret from a potential ally."

He shrugs, and nods, as if to say "you got me."

"You're smart, Wayne Rogers. Smarter than I gave you credit for." He sighs, and points to his partner. "Impmon's at his latest level, right now. We haven't been able to find a way to make him stronger." Now, the digimon speaks up, for the first time since we've met.

"The digimon you're talking about is a friend of ours. He helped us out when I started to lose that fight with the..." He tests the word out, savoring the name of his enemy. "Fugamon."

Sally looks at me, and beckons me closer. Leaning in, she speaks quietly.

"I don't think they're lying to us, but they're still not telling us everything." Judging from her expression, I get the feeling she's not too keen on trusting these two, or their friend, but I also get the impression she's leaving the choice to me.

I should...
