The system:
See Image or the Pastebin for a detailed ruleset. pastebin.com/e3q4q0MP
That'll tell you more than you wanted to know.

Basic rules still apply (Grey Box): Roll d20: Highest dice roll out of the first three rolls
is used for the Dice Check (DC), while all three rolls are averaged to determine other

internal factors, if applicable. Natural 20’s and Critical Failures (1) supersede all other
rolls made.

Roll d100: d100’s are used for different factors, the most applicable of which will be listed at the call for the roll. High is always better.

Rolling for Time: When asked to roll for time, the first roll response will be used, with additional rolls used as necessary. This is the only time low rolls are desired.

NewType powers, since they are plot breaking, will be based on a point system.
For every natural 20 you roll, you'll get .5 NTP. If you roll an 11 on a d20, it will be worth .25 of a NTP. Double rolls on a D100 will also garner .25 NTP.

You can exchange 1 NTP for an automatic critical success / plot breaking idea. You can also exchange 1 NTP to reduce an opposing main character's plot armor by 1/4 or 1/2 on any actions you take against them - the amount reduced will be situational, and depend on what you're planning on doing.

NTP Talley:
Bright Noah now has 6 NTP!
Char Aznable now has 2 NTP!
Amuro Ray now has 2.5 NTP!

Gihren Zabi now has .5 NTP!
Garma Zabi now has 1 NTP!
Kycillia Zabi now has .5 NTP!
Dozle Zabi now has .5 NTP!
Sleggar Law now has 1 NTP!
Sayla Mass now has 1 NTP!
Lalah Sune now has 2 NTP!
South Burning now has 1.5 NTP!
Cima Garhou now has 1 NTP!
Argile Delaz now has 1 NTP!
Anavel Gato now has 1.5 NTP!
Shiro Amada now has 1 NTP!

Here's the general gist of what we're working with:
Bright Noah joins Zeon instead of the Earth Federation (For Reasons Yet Unexplored), and is promoted to Captain of the Musai class cruiser ‘Longfellow’ for his actions during the One Week Battle / Battle of Loum. Newly minted Majors Bright and Char Aznable are ordered by Dozle Zabi to perform a joint investigation of the rumored Earth Federation Mobile Suit in development at Side 7. After thwarting an ambush by the legitimate Midnight Insertion Team, Bright discovered the Federation is making another unit in the neutral territory of Side 6. Kareem was sent to Pezun to bring word of this to Lord Dozle Zabi. Mobility tests of the modified Zudahs ware... inauspicious at best.

--------------------------------

Bright sighed as he flipped through the damage report. The Zaku Aron had smashed into a building would need some time on the maintenance slab before it could be considered combat worthy, mainly to double check the verniers and ensure there were no fuel and coolant leaks. The Zudah, on the other hand, had suffered a bit of damage. One of the girders from the radio tower had punctured the backpack unit, going straight into the left fuel canister. The verniers on the left side would need to be replaced as well, and some of the armor had been breached on the left back and left thigh areas, where the impact had been greatest.

“Just perfect,” Bright said.

Christine, who had handed him the reports, started to reply, but then closed her mouth abruptly. Bright’s tone hadn’t been of frustration, or annoyance. It had been something else, something… “All according to plan?” she finally asked, a hint of bitterness in her tone.

“Plans, plural, actually,” he said, then looked at her. “What?” He asked, noticing her angry expression. “Did you honestly think we could claim we just happened to ‘find’ a pristine unit? Or that any sabotage your techs did on the machine would be undiscovered? Oddly enough, having Aron beat this one up is beneficial to our plans,” He slapped the clipboard onto the desktop, which clicked into place via magnets, before eh continued, listing the items off on his fingers, “One, there’s legitimate damage- something your folks would probably avoid if they attempted to sabotage it. Two, it’ll require some time to fix, but not much, and it’s been my experience that engineer’s everywhere want to get their hands on a new piece of tech, broken or not. Three-“

“We have footage from the black box showing it being damaged and the Ball coming in to ‘recover’ it, and real damage furthers the cover story,” Christine finished for him, still looking sour. “Just because it makes sense doesn’t mean I have to like it.”

Bright shrugged. “It is what it is. What about testing the Triple?”

Christine shrugged. “While the length of the tether was measured for the Siegfried, we can adjust for using the prow of this Salamis, no problem. Just find me a pilot, and I can start up the testing in twenty minutes.”

Bright requested a laser communication link to be placed to the ‘Siegfried’. A minute later, Mohai appeared on the Salamis’ communications screen. “Bret here.”

“Noah. Are Captain Seabooke and Lieutenant Hatzenbuehler fit for duty?”

Mohai passed the request, and listened to the reply. “Yes sir. You want me to send them over in the Magellan’s capsule craft, or that MS oh five Airborne unit?”

Bright paused. “Is it even operable?”

Mohai nodded. “It needed a few minor recalibrations to the verniers and replacement fuel. The anti-radiation I-field unit was pulled, something about it was messing with the engine. Other than that, it’s combat ready, but…” Bright waited a moment, but Mohai shook his head, and gave Bright one of his ‘this is serious, so pay attention’ looks.. “She’s space worthy, sir. You need to have Ezra look her over.”

Bright quirked an eyebrow.

[X] Send them over in the capsule craft.

“Have Seabooke and Hatzenbuehler transfer via capsule craft, if you don’t need it for anything… And I know Ezra’s our resident Oh Five specialist, but why have her look it over?” Bright asked.

“You know how she named her first Zaku One ‘Elsa’?” Mohai said.

“Yeah?”

“Do you know why?”

“No.”

Mohai looked torn. “Well. Ask her if you get the chance. And tell her ‘Elsa came home’.”

A few things suddenly clicked. Jean calling over the radio that a unit of the 185th being found, Ezra insisting on piloting a Zaku I throughout the entire tour of duty at the California HLV depot, Ezra’s sudden need to step out of piloting duties. “This is going to be one of those conversations no one likes having, isn’t it?” Bright asked.

“Aye, sir.”

Bright nodded. “Thanks for the heads up, Mohai. Noah, out.”

>[X] Call Ezra to the Captain’s Quarters for privacy.

He turned to a crewman and said “Find Corporal Retersdorf, have her report to the captain’s quarters soonest.”

The Crewman snapped a salute and they both exited the bridge. Bright headed aft to the access corridor that lead down to the CIC and attached captain’s quarters. He pulled the bottle of 0075 single malt whisky from his desk drawer and two of Jane’s ‘space mugs’ and placed them on the table near the far wall. He sat down at the desk and waited, wondering how best to-

The door chimed. “Enter,” he said.

The door slid open and Ezra stepped in, shutting the door behind her. She looked very nervous, and extremely worried. She saluted crisply, saying “Retersdorf, reporting, sir.”

Bright stood up, and walked over to her. “At ease, Ezra. I called you in here because Mohai had a message for you.”

Her face went blank. “Sir.”

“Elsa came home.”

She was silent a long moment, but then drew in a long, shaky breath, letting it out again with a hiss. “Oh god damn it,” she said, with a waiver in her voice. “I promised myself I wouldn’t cry, but… damn it!” She nearly screamed the last, her hands coming up to claw at the empty air before her. She started to shake, but then froze, every muscle in her body tense. Another sharp inhalation, and then she slowly relaxed, twitching a little. “okay. Okay. I’m good.” She looked back to Bright. “Will there be anything else, sir? If not, I’d like permission to crawl into my bunk and cry for a week.”

Bright nodded. “Granted, but I can only give you a day or two. My apologies.”

“Understood, sir.”

“Mohai also said you need to look that Zaku over. If you’d like to transfer back to the Siegfried to do so, Jean and Lourie will be here in ten minutes and you can take the capsule craft back.”

“I- I would, sir. Thank you.”
>>
>>23340335

Bright nodded. He then saluted her. “My sincerest apologies for your loss, Ezra. You are hereby relieved of duty for twenty four hours. Dismissed.”

Ezra Retersdorf turned on her heel and strode out the door.

Bright turned to the desk he’d set the single malt and opened the whisky, pouring himself a generous dollop before placing the cap back on the bottle. He lifted the glass, and toasted to the 185th before slamming it down. “God, but I’m terrible at this….”

>>
>>23340639

>>
>>23340639

pshah... that's not interesting...

it having a kick between thruster settings is interesting.
could be explained as each engine going full burn at different times. gives an interesting measure of speed; at one kick, it travel at maximum Zaku speed, at two kicks, it travels at Chars Zaku max speed, at three kicks...

but, this is your prize. enjoy it, as it never lasts long enough...
>>
>>23340854
I was thinking something similar to that before the 2nd post, but couldn't word it out and thus scrapped it for the better safety idea.
>>
How about this: A couple of Pezun techs have been fiddling with the Triple and have made a major breakthrough in the gimbal system. The Zudah's three thrusters can move independently, acting in concert with the suit's AMBAC to give the Triple unparalleled maneuverability.

Of course, since it has so much raw engine power, a pilot who is unfamiliar with its characteristics is likely to make themselves sick if the try to do any exotic maneuvers.

Buzz kill. It needs zazz. It needs... that Zeon flare for exploding violently. No. We need the triples quirks to be it it's as reliable as the Zaku, faster than Char's Zaku 2 while still being far more maneuverable with the extra verniers, and it learns from its pilot. True to Bright’s word, the capsule craft docked ten minutes later, and left with Ezra aboard.

Lourie went after the Triple test immediately, and Jean joined Bright on the bridge. “Something happen with Ez?” he asked.

“Personal matter,” Bright returned. “I take it Lourie’s in the Zaku already?”

“Yuuup.” Jean said, leaning against the concave area by the main lift. The Zaku in question was soon seen towing the Triple towards the prow. Chatter between Christine, the other Pezun technicians, and Lourie soon filled the comm., and the two ball units quickly mounted the Triple’s mooring tether’s at special re-enforced points installed during the earlier tests.

“What do you mean, I have to stand the Zaku on the other side of the hull?” Lourie gripped.

“Do you like the idea of being roasted alive? We have no idea how much output this thing has. It could potentially drag the entire Salamis behind it. And you want to stand there? Really?”

There was a brief pause.

“Fine, I’ll stand on the other side,” Lourie grumped, making the Zaku II sullenly stomp across the hull, over the edge, and reappear on the camera view of the bottom hull, trailing the umbilical cable. “Can we start now?”

“Blast shutters down!” Bright snapped. “All ball units, to the rear of the ship! Stand by for emergency assistance!” He stood from the captain’s chair, and threw a hand out towards the main window. “Zudah ‘Triple’ engine stress test, begin!”

The camera showed the Zaku II and the Zudah take the same pose as Lourie shouted “Up, Up and AWAY!” slamming the Zaku’s thrust control to the top, snapping the thin wire that separated ‘Max Thrust’ from ‘Emergency War Power’.

For a brief moment, nothing happened. Then the Zudah leapt from the deck riding a glare that by all rights belonged to a newborn star. The tethers twanged taught in an instant, and the entire light cruiser lurched as if hit by an asteroid fragment in the engine block.

And slowly, inexorably, the ship began to move forward. “Readings!” Bright snapped.

“Manifold pressure at twelve ninety! Fourteen hundred! Fifteen!” Christine replied, before a brighter flare lit the cameras, and the ship began moving faster. “Holy… Pressure climbing, twenty three thous-“ and the flare up occurred again. “Oh, god damn it, Ceff!”

“Lourie was simply laughing like a madwoman. Bright gestured to cut her off until she said something relevant, and turned to the sub monitor that showed Christine. “Can you translate that to something I actually understand?”

“Probably not,” she conceded. “But on a scale of one to explosions, we’re pushing fifty! I don’t know WHAT Ceff did, bu-”

Another flare, this one brighter than the previous three combined, and the Bright had to grab the captain’s chair to steady himself. Jean was thrown to the floor with an indignant squawk.

“Reverse thrusters! Reverse, damn it!” bright ordered, followed by “Christine!”

“I don’t even know anymore! I know nothing! Why the hell hasn’t this thing exploded yet!”

“BECAUSE IT’S AWESOME!” Lourie yelled over the comm.

Bright shot the operator a look, but the fellow shrugged. “Sorry, sir. She stopped laughing a minute ago, so I turned her back on.”

“DAMN STRAIGHT I’M TURNED ON!”

“Well turn her OFF and get that damn thing back here before *I* explode.” Bright grumbled.

MEANWHILE, ON SOLOMON

Dozle Zabi contacted the communications center on Solomon, and when the comm. officer came on screen, told her he needed a laser link with the leader of the Riah Republic immediately.

He proceeded to drum his massive fingers on his desk, waiting for the diplomatic bullshit to let his call through. Ten minutes later, and he was connected to Clinton Sherk, President of the Riah Republic. “Good morning, Lord Zabi. As always, it is good to hear from our friends from the Archduchy of Zeon. To what do I owe the pleasure of this call?”

Dozle eyed him for a moment, before sighing. “I am not a diplomatic sort, President Sherk, so please, let me be blunt.”

Clinton spread his hands in a magnanimous gesture, smiled his ‘I understand you’ smile, and nodded to the other man. “I have the utmost respect for your mining and military background, Dozle. As long as you’re not calling to rattle sabers, I’m happy to use informal language. What’s on your mind?”

Dozle forwarded the schematics and the supporting documents that placed the RX-78NT-1 project at Side Six, Bunch 6, Colony 2. “One of my ships had a run-in with a Federation light cruiser, and we found this after capturing it. You’ve got an EFF installation on Libot, sir. I felt you should be informed as soon as possible.”

Clinton blinked, and then read through the documentation when his computer received it. He ran a hand through his steel grey hair, and used it to rub his neck as his features contorted with worry. “Son, I don’t have time for practical jokes, and even less to spend on-“
>>
>>23341273
Without the reaction speed granted by Newtype space magic, using this thing at third kick in the debris field would be a fine way to kill yourself.
>>
>>23341552

“This is not a joke,” Dozle interjected, cutting the other man off. “As far as I know, this information is legitimate, and is a clear violation of the EFF towards your Terms of Neutrality. I would appreciate it if you would send some of your Internal Affairs people to look into this…” Dozle brought the documents up on his own screen and scanned for the name, “'United Steel' building that they're using as a base. If you would like my people to do it, I can send a Musai and have it available to you within the hour.”

“No, no… that won’t be necessary at this time,” Clinton said. “I’ll send my people to Libot and see what the hell is going on. But I warn you, Dozle – if this is a hoax, the Riah Republic will be less than pleased.”

“If this were a hoax on Zeon’s part,” Dozle returned, “I’d let my Sister, or Gihren do the talking. They’re the smart ones. The worst that happens is the information is incorrect, or purposely false, and is meant to mislead Zeon into attacking our friends in Riah – a situation we would both like to avoid, I believe.”

Clinton nodded. “I’ll keep you posted, Dozle.”

“I’ll keep a Musai on standby, in case you decide you need the assistance,” he returned.

President Sherk hung up on him, and Dozle leaned back in his chair. As he settled back, he realized the aide was still in the chair he had deposited him in. He stared at the other man for a moment before asking, “Are You Finished Here?”

“Yes, Lord Zabi, Sir! Unless you need me to run a message for you?”

“No. You Are Dismissed!” Dozle said, pointing at the door.

The aide ran out as fast as his legs would carry him.

Dozle crossed his arms and blew a breath through his lips, and heard a giggle. His eyes shot to the side, where Zena was leaning through the door, still holding his darling little girl. He waggled his left eyebrow at them, and Mineva giggled again. Dozle smiled.
>>
>>23341572

“Is everything alright, dear?” Zena asked as she approached and held Mineva out to him. He took his daughter in his arms and poked her gently on the nose.

“Just Another Day In The Office, My Love. Good News, Watered Down By Politics, Which I haven’t The Head For. And That Bright Fellow, Might Have To Promote Him Again.”

“I told you he’d be a good choice for this mission,” Zena chided.

Dozle barked out a short laugh, which made Mineva laugh, so he did it again, this time directed at her. Mineva bopped him on the nose, and he grinned. “Yes. You Did At That,” he answered. “Thank You, Dear.”

Zena, former ZIRCON Chief of Staff under Zeon Daikun, smiled. “As always, you’re welcome. Now, let me put Mineva down for a nap, and I’ll go over your problem with you.”

He watched as Mineva yawned, and nodded, handing her back to her mother, and brought up the documents once again, humming the lyrics to an old miner’s song quietly to himself. ‘…keep your hand upon your wages,’ he thought along with the tune, ‘and your eye upon the scale…’

Did you know that this proposed design appears in Gaia Gear?

I kind of wish we could hook up extra coolant tanks to the Zudah to stop it from exploding.
>>
>>23342969
That certainly looks impressive.
>>
>>23342994
It isn't a coolant issue. It's more of an insulation issue, because it's an imbalance in the pulse generation that causes a runaway cascade effect.

Don't tell me that Ceff is going to upgrade the Siegfried with Zudah based technologies....
>>
>>23343367

"...and I've added these power converters to the docking cradles. With all the Zudahs slotted in, we can redirect the energy from their onboard reactors into the main capacitors, reducing Siegfried's main cannon cycle time to a mere fifteen seconds. There's very little risk of blowing up the ship, too."
>>
>>23343398 >>23343367

Professor Ceff's main contribution to the Siegfried was the Zudah bay, which is a bastardization of the Big Rang's Oggo Refuel Repair Rearm conveyor system.

You folks already went to full burn, and left an EFF ship in your wake before it could notice you in part 5.

--------------Side Six Omake: 4th Entry--------------

“What are we doing, exactly?” Asked one RIA agent to the other. They had requisitioned a Public-class transport to travel from Riah, 6/1/1 to Libot, 6/6/2.

“Looking for a supposed EFF installation on Libot,” the second agent said in a bored monotone.

“Tip from Zeon?”

“Yep.”

“What a wonderful way to waste our time,” One griped. “Thanks Zeon!”

“Just shut up and drive,” Two said.

An hour later, they pulled past the civilian traffic and carefully docked with a maintenance access block. Two eyed his map carefully. "Why," he asked, "Are there two access blocks here? The map only shows one."

Agent One set the magnetic clamps, unbuckled his restraints, shrugged, and went aft to pull a pressure suit out of it's locker and began pulling it on. "Maybe our supposed Feds installed it?"

Two put his phone away and joined One in donning a pressure suit. They then gathered their gear: binoculars, handguns, and two small wireless scouting units, one aerial, one ground, with camera and video functionality.

They checked each others suits, and once satisfied, cycled the small airlock at the rear of the craft, allowing them to exit. One fired a zip-gun, anchoring a line to the access block. Two fired his own zip-gun, and attached a safety line to the public class transport. A minute of dangling in the inky blackness of space, and they were on the deck of the maintenance access block. Two punched in his access code, clipped the safety line to the guard rail, and entered the air lock with Agent One. Once the green light was on, they removed the pressure suits and entered the maintenance tunnels. Only to be stopped by a large, red barrier shutter labeled '10 BL.'.
>>
>>23343688

"What the hell is this doing here?" asked One as Two tapped the surface of the barrier.

"That's not standard shutter material," Two said at length. "And there isn't any console on this side for emergency bypass."

One scowled. "Well. That's a three hundred Hite fine for a safety hazard, at the very least.

Two made a note in his smart phone, and then brought up the maintenance tunnel maps. "Let's try junction two-twelve, see if it's blocked off as well."

Five minutes later, they ran into another red steel barricade labeled '12 BL'. Going even further around led to yet another barricade.

"Someone doesn't want anybody to see what's in this block, do they?" One groused.

"Uh huh," Two grunted absently, running his hand across the uneven surface of this latest barricade, labeled '5 BL'. Several flecks of red paint came off, and he used a white kerchief to clean his hand. "Powder coat," he said. "Hasty job, too. Paint and the shutters," he clarified.

One pointed back the way they had come. "Back to the transport?"

"And to that other access block," Two agreed.

Several minutes spent walking back to their entry point, and re-donning their pressure suits, and the two RIA Agents were once again in space. "Mind the coriolis effect," One cautioned, aiming his zip-gun about a meter to the right and half a meter above the deck of the access door. He fired, and the magnetic grapple flew along the distance, securing nearly dead center on the yellow airlock door.

Two followed suit, his grapple hitting a bit lower, but still in a good position. Another minute spent dangling over the black abyss before their boots clamped down on the deck. “I hate doing that,” Two muttered.

“For a spacenoid, you don’t really like space much, do you?” asked One as he punched his code into the access panel.

“You get lost in it once, that’s all it takes,” Two said darkly as the access panel cleared them, and they air lock cycled open.

Again they removed the pressure suits once the green oxygen light came on, and One straightened the tie of his business suit and grabbed the satchel containing their gear while Two popped open the top hatch and peered around. “All clear,” He said, and moved up.

One followed him, and asked, “Which way now?”

Two pointed at a wire mesh cover on a ventilation duct. “According to the map, that leads into the main proceeding facility. Get the ground drone in there; I’m going to check on those shutters.”

“And if someone comes by?”

“Shoot them with the tranq gun,” Two answered.

One pulled said weapon out of the satchel and set it on the deck beside him as he removed the ground drone next. It was a sophisticated piece of machinery that could record video, audio, and still photographs, was about the size of a civilian radio controlled 1:43 scale minivan, and had strips of electro-magnetic material in the tires to allow it to hang upside down or scale ventilation junctions. Video signal was sent wirelessly to a visor unit to allow for beyond lone of sight operation. Agent One removed the screen and set the little machine down in the vent. “All right, you dirty rat, go sniff out their secrets,” he said quietly to himself, lowering the right eye piece of the visor and activating the video uplink.

With a small whine, the machine took off down the narrow vent with ease.
>>
>>23343716

-------------
Agent Two stopped, and eyed the rear of the ‘10 BL.’ Barricade. He pulled his phone out of his pocket, and began taking pictures. He then set it to record video, and began annotating his findings. “No access panel for emergency bypass, either side. Seams wielded on rear face, leaving front face of shutter appearing as if it can be retracted. Small triangular makings denoting the location of wield seams. Material appears uneven, and power coat paint flecks in areas. Appears to be illegally erected,” he finished, turning off the video recorder.

Two then went back the way he came, and after a few minutes of walking, whistled the ‘all clear’ tone before coming around the corner where Agent One was located. “You found anything?”

“Affirmative. You?”

“No console or manual bypass on this side of the panel either,” Two answered.

One poked a button on the side of his visor unit and passed it to Two. Two brought it up to eye level, and saw what appeared to be a large metal framework. “Is that a leg?”

“I think so, press the down button twice.”

The picture changed to that of a roughly head-shaped framework looming over some people working on it. Optical systems were obviously being installed, and there were crates labeled MRX-071 VULCAN off to the side. Two whistled again. “Where’s the Rat?” He asked, referring to the ground based surveillance system.

“Left it in the vent, near what looks to be an officer’s mess with the audio recorder on. Transferred the video data to the head unit, we can leave any time you want,” One answered.

Two jerked a thumb over his shoulder.

Satisfied the Triple wasn’t about to explode any time soon, Bright authorized Lourie to pilot the unit directly, which she gladly did. Meanwhile, Bright sent a message via laser comm. to send Wyatt in the remaining ZZ unit, using the Magellan’s capsule as cover from prying eyes, to the Salamis for engine endurance testing.

>[X] Test Pilot Bright: Go out in the remaining Solar Job Zudah yourself

“Jean,” Bright said, turning to the 2nd Lieutenant, “You’re in charge.”

Jean cocked his head to the side, “What?”

“I’m going to try one of those Zudahs,” Bright said, heading towards the lift.

“No, wait, you can’t be serious!” Jean shouted back, a strange mix of apprehension and horror painted on his face. Bright just waived as the lift doors closed, leaving Jean behind.

It was a simple matter to get suited up, and soon Bright was following the guide lines which ran from the above deck airlock to the prow of the ship. He could see the techs from Pezun going over the damaged ZZ unit, making sure it was lashed to the hull properly for the trip to Side 7. His attention shifted upwards, as the Triple zoomed past far overhead, doing several aileron rolls before pulling straight up, inverting, and reversing direction at full thrust.

Bright lost sight of the unit as it sped below the ship, and instead turned his attention to the Zudah he intended to try. The unit’s tower shield was an imposing sight, glinting in the wan light that filtered though Loum’s debris. The blue paint was only bright in the deck lights, and faded to a darker hue towards the head. Bright pushed off the deck and floated gently towards the open cockpit, the lights inside spilling out into the void.

He grabbed the side of the cockpit hatch and pulled himself in. The pilot’s seat was empty, and he slid into it, flipping the switch to close the hatch and bringing up the comm. “Bright Noah, Zudah, reporting,” he announced.

The comm. chatter between Christine and the techs came to an abrupt halt. Silence fell across the air. Bright cleared his throat. “Bright Noah, Zudah, requesting permission to launch. That’s your cue, Jean.”

“Um, right… Just be careful and don’t kill yourself, okay? Mohai’d never let me hear the end of it if you died while *I* was in command,” Jean said sourly.

“Well, it’s either you get used to it or have Lourie take the helm during the infiltration OP,” Bright said, releasing the magnetic clams and letting the Zudah float above the deck.

“Why’s that, now?”

“Because Mohai’s a dead ringer for that Captain Sharp fellow. I’ll need him to play commander when we infiltrate,” Bright said. “Launching!”

The Zudah’s engine flared up, launching him into the dark, ignoring Jean’s sudden bout of angry swearing.

The acceleration profile was a rough thing, Bright thought, adjusting a sew dials and getting used to the controls. Overall, it handled like a Zaku I, light and responsive… but the acceleration was a full kick in the ass, and the plethora of maneuvering thrusters meant it turned on a pinhead.

That was the main issue to overcome, he realized as he put the machine through its paces. It wasn’t the overall speed, but how that speed interacted with the sudden changes in direction. One had to stop thinking in aerodynamic terms, fewer curves, and be willing to think in angles of attack, diagonals, sharp lines.

After a few minutes, he had the basics down. “Seabrook! Where’d you get off to?” he asked, checking the radar. It was very fuzzy, probably from the m-particles released by the Triple’s earlier test.

Without warning, the Triple slid into a parallel course with his machine, facing it head to head. “’Sup, Cap’n?”

Bright Peeled away, or at least attempted too, but the Triple kept pace with him, matching his movements back, forwards, and rolling, still staring his machine down. “By Zeon’s Beard, that machine is fast,” Bright whispered.

“Damn straight it is. Wanna play?”

“Hide and seek? Tagis right out, as the SJ isn’t as fast as your machine,” bright countered.

“Fair enough. I’ll give you a minute to hide!” Lourie cheerfully called out, turning her machine away and rushing off into the distance.

The next hour was spent playing hide and seek in the Loum Shoal Field. Bright managed to evade Lourie four times, but she found him more often than not. After the tenth game, Bright called it quits, as his fuel reserves were getting low. “How are your tanks holding up?”
>>
>>23359880

“About half,” Lourie said. “I’ve been kicking the thrusters into high and then shutting them down to coast. The verniers on this sucker are more than enough for course corrections.”

-------------------

Back on the Salamis, Bright stopped in the pilot’s locker room, and stripped down. He opened the sealed door to a shower room and flipped on the hot tap, letting the heat steep into his tired muscles. He closed his eyes and enjoyed it for a long moment.

He opened his eyes as the shower room door clicked shut again, and Lourie floated in as if she owned the joint, her only concession to decency a long towel draped over her shoulders. “Heya Cap’n. Good job out there!” she said, pulling herself into the stall next to Bright, and closing the door. “I honestly didn’t know you could pilot!”

“I’d been a while,” Bright said, closing his eyes again. “But you have to pass basic competency to graduate from ESCDATA.”

“What year were you in?”

“Seventy Nine,” he said. “They passed me early due to the war starting up, so that technically makes me class of Seventy Eight.”

“Did you know Garma?” She asked.

“Yes, actually. He and Char were on campus at the same time I was. I accompanied Garma Zabi every now and again,” Bright said. “He can’t cook to save his life.”

Lourie laughed, and then stuck her head out of the stall, eying Bright speculatively. “So, you single? Want me to join you?”

Bright shook his head. “Sorry, Lourie, as much as I believe I’d enjoy your brand of ‘After Action Reports’, I think Jean would shoot me if I got you before he did.”

“Seriously?” She said, raising an eyebrow. “Jean’s that into me?”

“You might want to check on that,” Bright said, shutting off the tap and stepping out. He let her get as much of a look as she had given him. “If that doesn’t work out, ask me again. And we’ll see what happens.”

“Fair enough, Cap.” She said with a grin.

Bright left the showers and retired to his quarters to take a nap. Sleep had been a little lacking lately, and he was more than willing to leave Jean in charge for a few hours, just to annoy him.

His sleep was interrupted by a phone call. “Bright.”

“Christine here. Captain, the Siegfried reports two Pazok class transports and a Papua have arrived from Pezun to transfer the EFF prisoners. And they apparently had a VIP aboard.”

“Who?”

“Felix Ceff,” was all she said.

It took him a moment, but when the realization hit, Bright threw his sheets off and shouted ‘Get us back to the Siegfried NOW. I don’t want that madman on my ship without proper supervision!”

“Roger! Uh, Helmsman! Get us back to the Siegfried, double time!” Was the last Christine said before Bright hung up the phone in search of pants.

Additionally, we can't have our MS squad leader emotionally worried over information that the Siegfried is under attack when push comes to shove. It would potentially ruin possible tactical genius scenarios.

>>23360351
So, seriously. Is he going to try to add the Zudah thruster and supplemental reactor systems to the Siegfried to make it into a ship that can maneuver like a Mobile Suit?
>>
>>23360858
Dear god, I hope not. That would sheer the ship in half.

Dressing quickly, Bright made it to the bridge severely annoyed with EFF Ship layouts. He stepped in and Christine relinquished the captain’s chair to him. “Where’s Jean?”

“Uh, Captain Seabrook showed up in a towel and drug him off somewhere,” Christine said.

Bright paused, thought ‘Hot Damn’, then shouted “Status!”

“Ten minutes out to the Siegfried, sir,” the helmsman replied.

Bright was tense the entire duration, so much so that it wasn’t until the docking tuobes had been connected that he thought to check on the status of the Zudahs. Luckily, the Pezun techs had covered the ZZ with a tarp, and the two Zaku’s were boxing the other Zudahs in, also covered with tarps.

Once the docking tubes were set, Bright tore through them, finding Mohai on the other end. He stared at the larger man, simply asking “Where is he.”

“Zaku hangar.”

Bright took off like a shot.

The scene he came upon was about what he had been expecting (or fearing). Ezra was in the cockpit of the MS-05 Airborne, holding Ceff at bay with her service pistol, shouting “This was my sister’s machine, you egghead! I’ll never let you touch it!”

“But, I just want to-“

“No!”

“Attempt to modi-“

“NO!”

“Just a little?” Ceff asked.

The gun shot rang in the small space, the bullet ricocheting between Ceff’s legs and lodging into a parts container behind him. The old man held his hands up and slowly backed away, towards where Bright was standing at the door. “Okay, Okay. I can see you’re upset. I’ll ask later.”

“Try ask NEVER, you ass!” She said, slamming the cockpit door shut and locking the outside world out again.
>>
>>23360858

Bright grabbed Ceff in a head lock, and hissed “What are you doing on my ship?”
