>Sorry, guys. My Internet went tits-up last weekend.

You are Roa Koo’lade, a thirteen-year-old Zabrak girl. You are the Jedi Apprentice of Council Master Plo Koon.

Not much happened last time. You ate breakfast, listened to gossip from a group of older Padawans, and got your first mission alongside your Master from the Council. Somebody has been stealing hyperdrive parts from Fondor, a world renowned for its shipyards, and these thefts have incidentally caused multiple hyperdrive failures on starships crossing interstellar distances. You and Master Koon are to investigate these thefts and figure out who is committing them.

>Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Jedi%20Quest

>A warning: I’m a fucking slow writer.
>>
“Master Koon, have you ever been to Fondor?” you ask.

The two of you are standing before a huge transparisteel viewport that wraps around the entire spaceward wall of the orbital dock’s VIP gate. In the silent void outside, tens of thousands of starships of all colors, shapes, and sizes flit to and fro like metallic fireflies among dozens of other docks just like this one in Coruscant’s high orbit. The flat darkness of outer space has almost completely vanished under the glow of countless sublight drives and running lights.

“Once, with my own Master,” Plo Koon answers. “We were there to investigate the disappearances of two Republic Judicial officers.

“…were they ever found?”

“They were.”

Before you can get anything more out of him, you glimpse the distinctive vertical-hammerhead profile of a Consular-class cruiser slowly come into view around the gleaming curve of the orbital dock. The diplomatic vessel’s three primary drives cut out as it draws near the extending airlock, and the pilot uses simple maneuvering thrusters to guide the ship into position. There’s a gentle clang as the hull’s airlock connects with the protruding chute.

“Let’s go, Padawan,” Koon says, striding towards the airlock entrance.

You heft up your traveling pack from the floor and follow him. The pack contains several changes of clothes, some emergency credits, female hygiene supplies, and a few other knickknacks. All the important stuff like your commlink and ration capsules is clipped to your utility belt.

Oh fuck I've missed a thread
>>
A brown-haired Human woman, clad in the blue uniform of the Judicial Corps, greets you on the other side of the airlock.

“Master Jedi Koon, I presume?” she asks. “I’m Captain Gardann. Welcome aboard the Estrella.”

“Well met, Captain,” Koon replies. “This is my Padawan learner, Roa Koo’lade.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Captain Gardann,” you chirp.

Gardann looks a bit surprised at your age, but she quickly recovers. “Likewise, Padawan Koo’lade.”

She turns back to your Master. “I’d introduce the rest of my crew, but I was told that you want to get to Fondor as quickly as possible. Well, that’s certainly understandable.”

“Thank you, Captain. I have every faith in you, your crew, and your ship.”

Gardann nods and taps a wall-mounted communicator. “XO? The Jedi are aboard. Make clear of the dock and head for open space.”

[Yes, ma’am.]

The ship rumbles beneath your feet as the primary drives power up. The deck shivers under several hundred gravities of acceleration.

“I’ll show you to your quarters,” the captain says. She motions to the door. “This way, please.”
>>
>>23329609

>No, last time I forgot to put up the title.

You and your Master share a double bunk bed in an unoccupied crew berth—Koon has politely declined the offer of the VIP quarters. The captain estimates that the trip will take a day and a half at the ship’s best speed, so you know you’ll have to get used to the cramped conditions aboard sooner or later.

But for now, Gardann is taking you and Master Koon on a guided tour of the Estrella. It’s a small, speedy vessel, slightly over a hundred meters long from stem to stern. There are four other crew members besides the captain herself, including her first mate/pilot, the chief and lone engineer, the medical officer, and the security/communications officer.

“Here we have engineering…”

A Neimoidian—you’re surprised by that—standing at a computer station waves the back of his hand at the three of you.

“The medbay…”

The white-walled, almost organically curved-looking room appears to be empty, but then you see the multi-limbed body of a surgical droid hanging from the ceiling.

“The galley…”

It’s actually empty. You see that the galley has a small kitchenette, dominated by a reheater and a relatively large refrigerator.

“And finally, our bridge.”

This room is occupied by two crew members, a tattooed Zabrak male at the helmsman’s station and a reptilian alien that you can’t identity. The reptilian has a holstered blaster mounted on its hip visible under its seat’s armrest. The Zabrak turns at the voice of the captain and sees the three of you at the entrance, his eyes widening in surprise and interest when he notices your horns.

“We’re almost clear of Coruscant’s gravity well, Captain,” he reports. “Thirty more seconds to go.”

“Very good, XO,” she replies. Gardann takes her seat next to him. “Lieutenant, do we have clearance to jump?”

“Yes, ma’am,” the (presumable) communications officer says.

“Very good. Master Koon, would you and your Padawan like to observe the hyperspace jump?”

“Certainly, Captain,” he replies.

You’ve never seen a hyperspace transition before. Nobody says a word as the captain and the helmsman press buttons and tap commands into the veritable forest of controls on their consoles. At last, a complete silence fills the ship as the hyperdrive charges.

“Jump on my mark,” the captain says. “Three. Two. One.”

The stars outside distort into lines of pure white light and space itself seems to blur until it becomes a smooth dark grey. There’s a faint tearing noise as reality momentarily splits asunder, and you feel an invisible force tugging you backwards as the ship leaps into hyperspace.

It’s simultaneously thrilling and anticlimactic. It was over faster than you thought it would be, at least.

“We should reach Fondor at around 1800 CST tomorrow evening,” Gardann says, checking readout on her console.

“My thanks, Captain,” Plo Koon says. “Well, we won’t bother you any longer. Come along, Roa.”

Several hours pass in the blink of an eye. You’re back in your quarters, and your Master is off somewhere meditating.

What do you want to do?

>Talk to the engineer. You wouldn’t have expected a Neimoidian to join the Judicial Corps.

>Talk to the pilot. You don’t know all that much about your own race’s culture, nor do you have the tattoos you’ve seen on other Zabrak Jedi.

The sight of the Zabrak pilot has piqued your curiosity. You know very little about Zabrak culture yourself; you only know a bit of biological information, that the homeworld is Iridonia, and that many Zabraks are Force-sensitive.

You go back to the passage leading into the cockpit and rap your knuckles against the wall. The pilot turns around and waves at you.

“Permission to step onto the bridge?” you ask.

“You don’t need to talk like that,” he says, clearly amused. “But yes, permission granted.”

As you enter, you notice that the reptilian communications officer has already left. The pilot follows your gaze.

“Staarl went to go check on the maintenance droids,” he explains. “I’m Lieutenant Commander Zur Yinter. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Apprentice Jedi.”

“Likewise,” you say. “I’m Roa Koo’lade.”

“Roa?” Yinter says. “Nice name. A Roa is a bird of prey native to Iridia—it’s small, but it has powerful wings and it flies fast enough to stun herd animals it crashes into claws-first. I got attacked by one when I was your age. That was a bit of fun.”

“Are you from Iridia?” you ask.

“Yep,” he replies. “I see you have no tattoos. I wouldn’t suppose you know why?”

You shake your head. “No. I was brought to the Jedi Temple when I was very young. I don’t know what my planet of birth was. I don’t know much about Zabraks, either.”

Yinter taps his chin. “Well, I can’t tell which planet you’re from, either. You’re all Coruscanti, now—accent, mannerisms, posture.”

“I don’t see how that’s a bad thing,” you say defensively.

“Never said it was,” he says, holding his hands up in the universal gesture for peace. “So what would you like to know about Zabraks, Miss Koo’lade?”

“A lot,” you say. “For one, what are the tattoos for?”

“Well, young Zabraks get these as part of a rite of passage in their adolescence,” Yinter explains. He runs a fingertip down one of the thin, inked lines on his cheek. “They can represent a lot of things—family lineage, planet of birth, personality traits. My father gave me mine when I was fourteen.”

He traces each of his tattoos as he continues speaking. “This design represents duty, this one cunning, this one pragmatism, this one decisiveness, this one confidence. They all mix and overlap to form different messages.”

“So I’ll get mine when I’m older?” you ask. You can’t, for the life of you, distinguish the individual designs from each other. All you see is a strange network of lines as inscrutable as a Celestial ruin.

“Probably, though I guess you’ll have to carve them yourself.”

“And what about my last name?” you ask. “Roa means crash-bird, I get that. What could possibly go with a name like that, though?”

You’re at a bit of loss about what to ask next. Then Yinter’s ‘traveling musician’ comment gives you an idea.

“What’s Zabraki music like?” you say. By this time, you’ve taken to leaning against the back wall of the cockpit, next to the entrance. “What kinds are there?”

“There’s quite a few,” Yinter says. “The most popular I know of are the traditional hunting drums, communal string playing, endurance drumming, and the diaspora music, which was created in celebration of our colonization of other planets. Zabraki music in general is heavily focused on string and percussion instruments. It’s said that the ancient Zabraks didn’t want to waste their breath on music in case of threats appearing during a celebration—they needed that air to fight or run. Well, I can believe that. Outside of the cities, Iridonia is a savage, savage place.”

You nod. “I hope I can visit Iridonia someday.”

“Definitely. It may be a dangerous world, but it’s beautiful, and it is the homeworld of our species.” Yinter leans back in his seat. “Anything else you’d like to ask?”

“You mentioned celebrations,” you answer. “What are the traditional Zabraki cultural festivals? Do you—we—celebrate High Day and Republic Day?”

“Of course we do,” he says. “Iridonia’s a Republic world, isn’t it? As for traditional festivals, most of them aren’t celebrated anymore by most Zabraks outside of the desert tribes. We celebrate Landing Day, of course, when colony ships landed on our first offworld colony. There’s also the New Autumn Festival, which historically was meant to celebrate our survival of the scorching hot summers and the yearly volcanic eruptions. It’s mostly a commercial holiday in modern times, though, which is a real shame. The last major one is the Ceremony of Passage. That’s when adolescents receive their tattoos. The Fullgrown’s Ceremony is a sort of sub-celebration meant for those teenagers who manage to successfully tattoo themselves without any external aid.”

He glances over at you. “I suppose you’d be included in the Fullgrown’s.”

“How do I carve the tattoos?” you ask. “Do I use ink-needles, or a knife to make scars?”

“Usually a master tattooist would do it for you,” Yinter replies. “My father was one, actually. The tattoos are incredibly complicated; a student can take decades to learn all of the designs. The ancient Iridonian nomads developed them as a sort of special identification for tribe members. Each tribe had its own unique style and designs. Each design signified a Zabraki word that made up a person’s given and clan name, plus myriad personal details.”

“That sounds like a pretty handy way of preventing identity theft.”

“Very handy. Only members of a given tribe could fully identify that tribe’s style of tattoos, based on depth, width, coloring, whatnot.”

He pauses for a moment to check his displays before turning back to you.

“To answer your original question, the master tattooists used bone needles and inks created from certain flora and fauna. Each tribe had its own traditional inks, too. My father used sterilized metal needles, though. He thought there was no need to cause infections.”

“I think I’ll know what I’ll use, then,” you say dryly. “And how would I go about learning the designs?”

“You could ask a master tattooist to teach you or you could ask a Zabrak Jedi. I’ve met a few.” Yinter gives you a long, piercing look. “Self-tattooing is extremely difficult, though. You have to ink the tattoos just so, with the designs perfectly symmetrical. The designs may look random, but even a rotation of a few degrees or too much of a curve can make one look like another. The ‘cunning’ design, for example, looks very similar to the ‘untrustworthy’ design.”

“…why would there be a design for untrustworthiness?”

He shrugs. “Your guess is as good as mine.”

He nods. “You can ask Captain Gardann about that or old Morse down in engineering. I think the skipper’s doing paperwork in her cabin.”

“I will. Thank you.”

You straighten up and head out of the bridge. A central corridor runs down the long, slim length of the ship’s prow and branches out when it reaches the flaring middle section of the hull. You recall that one passage leads to the engineering compartment, and the other leads to the crew quarters.

To the engineering deck you go. You pass the diminutive form of an astromech droid trundling along as you walk. The droid looks like the R2 model, but you’re not sure.

The engineer is just as your little tour group left him earlier on, typing into a computer station set into a compartment wall. As you halt at the entrance to engineering, you scan the interior of the chamber and see the glowing, pump- and wire-laden pillars of the central reactor and hyperdrive, which rise up from the floor to connect with the ceiling. The two massive machines are attached by a central pipe that leads to the far wall, presumably connecting to the primary thrusters beyond. A low, powerful thrum and the faint odor of ozone pervade the entire room. You can feel static electricity prickling your hair and scalp.

Engineer Morse finally notices you standing there. “Oh, hello again. You’re one of the Jedi. I guess that”—he nods at the lightsaber missing on your belt—“you’re the apprentice?”

You nod. “You’re Mr. Morse?”

“I am. Do you need anything?”

“Well…”

Your questions exit your mouth like repeating-blaster fire.

“What’s it like to live in a starship? How many droids help out on the ship? How long have you been on this ship? How long have you been in space? What's your favorite ship? Have you been to many worlds? Did you ever get spacesick?"

Morse holds up a hand. “One at a time, Miss, one at a time.”

“Starship life is about ninety-five percent boredom in cramped confines with nobody else around except your shipmates who you may or may not like. If it’s the latter, it can get very unpleasant very quickly, but it hasn’t happened on Estrella yet.”

“And the other five percent?”

“Absolute terror. There be monsters out in the black: pirates, raiders, mines, random singularities, the odd warship of an expansionist nation, and so and so forth. We’re a Republic diplomatic vessel, which protects us from most marauders—and those are rare on these routes anyways—but it can happen. It already has twice. We got away clean both times but I get the feeling our luck’s running out.”

“I joined the crew of a freighter when I was nineteen or so. Fun times. I saw the sights—our route spanned both ends of the Duros Run, nearly every commercial port in the Mid Rim when you include the Trade Spine and the Hydian. Eventually I got myself a recommendation to the Judicial Forces, and now I’m here.”

“I’ve been on this ship the longest out of the entire crew. Estrella’s my baby, my dear and adored, and there’s not another ship in the galaxy I’d rather be on. Engineers get especially attached to their ships. The captain and pilot may drive them but the techs are the ones who take care of them.”

“Droids help out a lot on this ship. Consular cruisers generally have minimal crew to not disturb overmuch any distinguished guests we might be ferrying. Right now, we’ve got a medical droid, a couple of protocol droids, and a dozen astromechs.”
>>
>>23342701

“Did I ever get spacesick? Well, that’s an odd question, and the answer is yes. Almost everybody does on their first space trip.”

“How does a hyperdrive work, exactly?” you ask. “I know some of the basics, but I’d like to know more or less how it works.”

“It’s a fairly complex system, so I’ll just give you the summarized lay version. Around the outside of the hull are a couple of metal poles”—he waves his hand around to indicate the general locations—“designed to gather gamma radiation. This is the field guide. Those g-rays are transferred into a couple klicks of superconducting wire and amplified by the hyperspace motivator. When a ship’s ready to jump, the horizontal boosters energize the ionization chamber to release all that radiation in order to form ripples in space-time. With me so far?”

You nod, although your head spins and your eyes begin to glaze.

“So then a ship rides those ripples into hyperspace. There’s no tear in the space-time continuum; hyperspace isn’t some separate dimension. In my opinion, it’s more like an alternate mode of existence, but I digress. Anyways, inertial dampeners kick in to smooth the transition for the crew and passengers, and the null field generator stabilizes the hyperspace tunnel.”

As Morse dumps information, your brain feels alternately squeezed by a giant fist and stretched like taffy.

“Shields keep stray particle impacts from ripping the ship apart, and the hyperdrive regulator does the same thing for the forces present in hyperspace. There’s a hyperspace-attuned stasis field to keep relativity from messing with time onboard the ship.”

You’ve learned some physics from lessons at the Temple Academy, so you have at least a vague idea of what the last part is about.

“Was that too much?” Morse asks.

You nod, somewhat embarrassed.

“Don’t sweat it. You just pick that stuff up as you go along. I’ve got the equivalent of a Master’s in hyperspace physics, but I learned all that stuff over three and a half decades.”

“Alright,” you say haltingly, your brain still trying and failing to make sense of all the technical jargon he mentioned. “So, uh, do you have any tips on how to make fix basic mechanical issues, Mr. Morse? Like faulty wires, or burnt out circuits, stuff like that?”

“Ah. That’s a much simpler topic.” Morse scratches his chin for a moment. “What’s always worked for me is to know which parts of a machine belong to which system. That way, if, say, the display screen of a datapad isn’t working, you can check its components in the most efficient order—the screen’s power couplings first, then the central processor, and finally the hardware pixels themselves.”

You nod. “I get that. But what if I don’t have time to familiarize myself with the inner workings?”

“In that case, I would go by educated guesswork. In my experience every machine has three major sets of components—the power source, its wiring, and whatever parts perform the primary function. Always check the power first. You wouldn’t believe how many devices don’t work simply because the power source wasn’t properly connected.”

You simultaneously cringe and laugh nervously. It won’t be the first time if you make that stupid mistake.

“Of course, I know that sometimes it’s not so easy to identify exactly which part is the power source. A simple way to do so is to trace the wires. Most power sources have exactly as many wires connecting to them as there are other parts; look for the module with a cluster of wires sticking out of it.”

“I see,” you say. “So it’s all common sense, right? The rest of the parts can’t function without power.”

“Indeed.”

“Thank you, Mr. Morse. I don’t doubt those tips will come in handy when I finally get my lightsaber.”

“No problem, Miss.”

You return to the lower deck’s crew berths. Plo Koon is already seated cross-legged on the floor of your assigned quarters. His entire being radiates tranquility and reflection.

“Welcome back, my Padawan,” he says, without looking up as the sliding door hisses open. “Did you learn much from the crew?”

“Yes, Master. A bit about Zabraki culture, a bit about shipboard life, a bit about fixing mechanical devices.”

“Very good,” he says. “I suppose it’s my turn to instruct you now.”

You sit down across from him. “More lightsaber practice?”

“It’s a bit cramped in here for that. Speaking of which, the room feels a bit stuffy. Why don’t you try and circulate the air a bit?”

There is approximately five metric tons of bantha doo in that statement. Starship atmosphere is regularly circulated—you can taste the distinctive metallic scent of scrubbed air—and even if it wasn’t, Master Koon could easily do what he asks of you himself.

And there you hesitate. Telekinesis forms a major set of Force powers, and while you like to think that you have a good grasp of it for your level of skill, you’ve only ever manipulated solid objects. Fluid manipulation is a method learned by full Knights, whereas you were still a youngling not two days ago.

Still, you won’t back down from the implicit challenge.

“Yes, Master,” you say. You close your eyes and settle into the familiar trance of meditation. A mysterious sense of warmth and energy swirls around you, gently caressing your face like a mother’s hand. The power of the Force fills the room; you can feel it slowly, inexorably building like a massive starship rising up from a surface hangar.

The Force wells up and out, linking its will to yours.

The air doesn’t move at first, but you keep your composure. You can sense the intangible energy shifting molecule after molecule after molecule, until a gentle breeze brushes against your skin and blows a lock of hair into your face. Absentmindedly flipping your hair back, you focus your concentration, letting power rush through you and radiate off of you.

A tiny whirlwind forms in the center of the room, ruffling you and your Master’s robes. You can’t see his face and he doesn’t make a sound, but you can somehow feel his satisfaction as you release your telekinetic grip on the air and let it slow down.

“Very good, Roa,” he says. “I knew you could do it.”

“Get to the cockpit, Roa,” he orders. “Find out what’s going on.”

“Yes, Master. Where are you going?”

You skid to a halt at the entrance to the cockpit to find that it’s abuzz with activity. Captain Gardann, Commander Yinter, and Lieutenant Staarl are already at their stations.

“Captain, what happened?” you ask.

Gardann barely spares you a glance as she works. “We hit some sort of gravity well generator that pulled us out of hyperspace. It’s not a singularity—if it was, we’d be dead—but we’re still trying to figure out what it was. Where’s your Master?”

“He said he was going ‘to man the gates’,” you say. “I don’t know what he meant by that.”

“Trust a Jedi to keep on top of things,” the captain mutters. “Whatever pulled us out of hyperspace shouldn’t be where it is. Someone had to have set it there.”

“Captain,” Staarl says, “Incoming transmission. It’s a hololink.”

“Put it up.”

The bluish light of a hologram springs up from a generator well set in the floor. It displays the image of a grinning human man in a trench coat, his left eye closed by a long scar, with a large blaster holstered at his side. Some sort of avian animal perches on his shoulder.

“Hapan mass mines are a doozy, aren’t they?” the man laughs. “They may be expensive, but they’re worth every credit.”

“This is the Republic diplomatic vessel Estrella,” Gardann snaps. “Who are you and why did you attack my ship?”

“No need to be so harsh, my lovely lady,” he says, waving a hand. “I’m Captain Baird Trellow of the good ship Reaching Talon. If you would do me the honor of meeting face-to-face with me, I wish to discuss a business transaction.”

The captain’s lip curls. “You’re a pirate.”

“I’d prefer the term ‘sailor of fortune,’ but that’s the gist of it, yes.” Trellow’s face hardens. “Now I would like to talk this out. If you insist on resisting, however, the consequences will not be pleasant.”

Through the forward viewport, you can see a blocky, light grey ship much larger than the Estrella, staying about nine or ten kilometers off the starboard bow. It looks like it had once been a bulk transport, but you don’t think multiple turbolaser emplacements are standard equipment for freighters.

“You can come aboard if you like, ‘Captain’ Trellow,” Gardann replies sarcastically. “There’s nothing of value on this ship, though. I can guarantee you this.”

“I’d like to verify that for myself,” Trellow says equally dryly. “There’s a shuttle with my men on it heading for your port airlock. Kindly refrain from forcing them to shoot you.”

With that he cuts the connection. Gardann looks at you.

“Apprentice Koo’lade, stay here with Yinter,” she says. “Contact Master Koon and tell him pirates are coming in from the port side. There’s probably another shuttle coming in from starboard, too. Staarl, you’re with me, we’ll handle those ones.”

“Yes, ma’am!”

She taps a wall-mounted communicator. “Morse? We’ve got pirates. Can you hold engineering?”

[I’ve got a blaster rifle and a very itchy trigger finger, Captain. They’re entering my engine room over their own dead bodies.]

“Keep them out, Morse,” she orders. “If they take engineering, it’s all over.”

[Roger that.]

Gardann reaches down and pulls a blaster pistol from under her seat. She nods at Staarl, who draws his own weapon, and the two of them rush out of the cockpit.

You activate your commlink and set it to speaker mode. “Master Koon? The Captain says there are pirates closing in on the left—err, the port airlock.”

[Understood, Roa,] Plo Koon replies. [I’m already there.]

“…stay safe, Master.” Your voice is very, very small and you can feel your twin hearts hammering in your chest. You never imagined that you’d be put in a dangerous situation so soon.

[I will. You too. May the Force be with you.]

The traditional benediction calms you down. “And you, Master.”

Master Koon cuts the link. You return the commlink to your belt.

“Miss Koo’lade?”

You turn, and your eyes widen as you stare down the barrel of a blaster. Yinter looks somewhat apologetic.

“I’ll need you to put your hands in the air and come with me to the starboard airlock,” he says. “Please don’t try to fight back.”

“You…”

“Yes. I told them where we’d be.”

“No, you’ve got it all wrong,” he says tiredly. “They approached me. They said they had my daughter. They said that a pirate corvette would be waiting, and that I was to take the ship out of hyperspace right at these coordinates.”

“Who’s ‘they’?”

“I don’t know. They called my commlink, my issued one. I don’t know how they got the code.”

“So you betray your crew because of one call?” you say incredulously. “What happened to duty and confidence? What happened to decisiveness and cunning? How do you know they really had your daughter? Why didn’t you tell anybody?”

“At least I have pragmatism,” Yinter fires back, clearly angered. His blaster hand is trembling. “They told me not to say anything. I couldn’t risk my daughter. You wouldn’t understand that fear! You Jedi never understand the concept of love! All you care about is your Force and your holier-than-thou code of morality!”

You’re quiet for a moment. “You know as little about us as you think we know about you. I have a friend back at the Temple. His name is Techinga Bi’teme. He ha—excuse me, does not prefer his first name. He can be a real jerk and he frequently acts before he thinks, but he has a big heart and he took care of the younger initiates. We first met as younglings when he threw a fruit into my face in the Refectory and broke my nose. I didn’t forgive him for a long, long time, but eventually I did after he let me punch him out.” You chuckle at the memory. “Master Yoda walked by at that very moment. I almost had a heart attack right there.”
>>
>>23351841

Yinter begins smiling as he listens to you. His blaster lowers slightly. Now’s your chance—do you attack while his guard’s down, or trust in your little story to calm him?

He never sees it coming. You flick your hand up and the blaster follows, clocking him under the chin like an uppercut from a champion boxer. Yinter actually rises up from his seat a centimeter or two before falling back down and keeling over his armrest.

Paling, you quickly reach out and check his pulse. It’s weaker than you’d like, but it’s steady. You quickly search him and come up with a set of magnacuffs that you use to lock his hands together.

The blaster has fallen to the floor. You glance at it, wondering whether you should take it. In fact, should you leave the cockpit at all?

>Take the blaster and leave. Give the crew some fire support.

No one's saying we can't use the Force, but we have to be pragmatic about things like this. This is our first life-threatening situation, and we're the only person here to hold the bridge.
>>
>>23352150
Leave the blaster we have been trained primarily in a 2 handed melee style and have never used a blaster before in our life so finding a stick would be way more useful.

There's no reason to cower, but we can't abandon the cockpit. We should hold out here, find a way to gag Yinter so he can't warn the pirates, and hide near the door so we can incapacitate any pirate who comes through. If we still have the lightsaber that we had back in training, keep that, if not, take the blaster. Either way, keep the blaster close.
>>
>>23352150
>>Take the blaster and leave. Give the crew some fire support.
>>
>>23352480
Cowering and defence are two different things. If someone bursts in and stuns/shoots us, we're screwed. If we're hidden, we can try to give them another helping of barrel sandwich.
>>
>>23352150
>Take the blaster and leave. Give the crew some fire support.

we have to learn at some point and no time like the present
>>
Just going to point out one small fact for everyone that wants to do blaster off hand.

the blaster is less than useless in a fight involving anyone who can use the force since it takes focus away from the weilder. and the one of the first ways people who use the force learn to control it is by selecting blaster shots based solely on intuition and anyone who gets beyond padawan level can deal with anything short of mass fire.
>>
>>23352839

>Take the gun. Guard the cockpit.

After a moment of hesitation, you pick up the blaster and carefully tuck it in your belt. You don’t know how to use it, but you suppose that an unfamiliar weapon is better than none at all.

You look back at Yinter. He’s still out cold, and you don’t think he’ll wake up anytime soon, but safer is better than sorrier. You tear off a strip of cloth from his uniform, lever his mouth open, and shove in the makeshift gag, tying it in place with another torn-off cloth. He might be able to remove it if he has his hands tied in front, you realize, so you undo the magnacuffs and relock his hands behind his back. Finally you drag the unconscious pilot back into his seat and rotate it towards the forward viewport so that he looks like he’s still working.

You draw the blaster again and stare at the myriad knobs and levers on its surface. All you know is that pulling the trigger fires it; you don’t know if it’s set to stun or kill. Maybe you’ll stick to telekinesis. The idea of actually killing another person, even a pirate, fills you with apprehension.

The wall next to the entrance threshold provides both a good hiding spot and a place where you can keep an eye on Yinter. You crouch down there and lean against the cool durasteel, listening for the sound of approaching footsteps..

Then you remember your commlink. Should you contact your Master or Captain Gardann? It’ll make explaining why you knocked out a member of her crew easier later on.

>Contact the adults.
>Don’t distract the adults.

Contact the adults, but nothing requiring a response - a simple "Yinter was working with the pirates and has been dealt with." to let them know some unexpected surprises might come their way. The pirates might have codes to the vessel's systems, for example.
>>
>>23353274
That's a little vague.
"Yinter sold us out -- they blackmailed him into telling them our route. He's knocked out now, but I'm the only one on the bridge now. I'll hold it until you get back."
>>
>>23353315
Yes, but this way it gives them the critical information and lets them draw conclusions thmselves, without taking up more than a few seconds worth of time.

>Contact the adults.

You probably should contact them. Master Koon and the captain might be in the middle of firefights, but it’s sensible to let them know about what just happened on the bridge.

You decide to call your Master first. It’ll probably be easier to explain this to him.

“Master Koon?” you say, keying your commlink. “Are you there?”

[I’m here, Roa. Are you alright?] Koon sounds remarkably calm for a person in the middle of a fight. Then you realize you can’t hear either his lightsaber or the sound of blaster fire. [The pirates who breached the portside have been dealt with, but I haven’t heard from Captain Gardann or Lieutenant Staarl.]

“I’m fine, Master. But, um…I…” You struggle to broach your message in a tactful way. “Master, Commander Yinter dropped the ship out of hyperspace. He was blackmailed into colluding with the pirates.”

[I see,] he replies. [Well, that certainly makes more sense than a pirate corvette operating in the Outer Core. I take it you’ve already disabled him?]

“Yes, Master. I’m guarding him on the bridge right now. There’s more, though.”

[Tell me about it later,] he says. [Contact Captain Gardann and notify her about the situation.]

“I will, Master. Where are you, anyways?”

[Look outside…now.]

You comply, and your jaw drops when you see an armed shuttle rocket past the forward viewport, its laser cannons blazing away at the pirate vessel.

“How did you—?!”

[Honestly, they could have made an even bigger mistake and directly docked with Estrella.]

1/2
>>
>>23353448

2/2

You tear your eyes away from the spectacle of Master Koon attacking a corvette in a shuttle and turn your attention back to the problem of reaching the captain. You have seen her using communicators mounted on the walls to speak with crew across the ship, but you don’t know if this system links to personal commlinks or functions as a public intercom.

If it’s the latter, you might alert the pirates to yourself. There’s only one way to find out, though.

>Call the captain.

You decide to call the captain. She needs to know, too.

Fortunately the communicator is on the side of the entrance that you picked as your cover. It’s a simple matter of standing up and tapping the button labeled ‘Starboard Airlock.’

“Captain Gardann? Captain, can you hear me?”

For a moment, nobody answers. Then a man’s cold, raspy voice speaks out.

[Who is this?]

Crap. So it was an intercom after all. Either that, or…or the captain is down and the pirate took her commlink. You immediately cut the link with a stab of your finger. Then you hit the button labeled ‘Engineering.’

“Mr. Morse! Are you alright?”

[I’m here, Miss,] the engineer wheezes. He gives a racking cough. [Don’t worry, it was…it was just a little graze. The medical droid can fix me up. The pirates won’t be trying for engineering anytime soon, in any case.]

You wince. “Mr. Morse, Commander Yinter was working with the pirates. He was blackmailed—somebody kidnapped his daughter—and he was told to drop the ship out of hyperspace right at these coordinates. I’ve disabled him, but I don’t know if we can get out of here without him.”

[What? Say again?]

At that moment you hear the tromping of combat boots against deck plating. The pirates are coming.

“I’m sorry, they’re almost here,” you say frantically. You realize you’re panicking, your breathing ragged and gasp, your blood pounding in your head. “I have to talk to you later.”

[Miss, wait—!]

You cut the link again and press your back against the wall. The approaching footsteps have slowed down. You listen closely to the patterns, trying to discern how many people you’re facing.

You’re unable to judge the exact number of pirates that you’re facing from their footsteps alone. All you can tell is that between three and five men are closing in on your position.

Here goes nothing. You have several options right now. You could spring out and fire the blaster or send a Force push at them. You could also wait to ambush them as they walk onto the bridge, but you’ll probably only be able to take down one or at best two of them before the others retreat and call for reinforcements. They might use grenades to clear the cockpit, too.

You risk a glance back at the viewport. Master Koon’s shuttle is still harassing the pirate corvette and preventing it from attacking the Estrella, but you doubt he can hold it back forever, even with all his skill and power in the Force. You don’t have much time.

Well that was horrible.

But I don't think Roa is going to die. They wanted to capture her after all. Dice are not always favorable. No need to panic.

Also, I guess we're in autosage, aren't we?

>AHAHAHAHA OH LAWDY

The footsteps become closer. They’ve slowed almost to tiptoeing now, as if whoever’s making them is afraid of an ambush. You slowly tense up, waiting for them to come to a halt—

And then someone rolls through the entrance, your blaster shot going wide and blowing out a console on the far wall. The roller smoothly rises to his feet and raises his blaster, before shooting you in the gut.

It’s a stun bolt. You can tell by the sting of the impact and the subsequent jolt of electricity that threatens to swamp your mind in darkness. You fight it with everything you have, staggering back slightly.

>Fortitude Check: FEEL NO PAIN. Roll 1d20, DC16.

>Roll failed.

Despite your best effort, despite the natural Zabraki resistance to pain, a direct hit from the blaster simply overwhelms you. Shadows compress the world before you into inky nothingness, and you crumple to the deck with scarcely a whimper.

“Take this one back to the Talon,” a distant voice says. One of the pirates, probably. “She’s cute. We can let Kandurc have some fun.”

As the dreamless void pulls you under, you send out one final plea for aid, calling out through the Force.

Master!

>And that’s it for tonight. Next time will be next Saturday, hopefully.
