From the guy that brought you the "Vampire attack" thread last night, it's time for a new, more personal challenge.

When you were a child, did you ever things at night? A mysterious figure appearing in your room, tormenting you as you try to sleep?

Whatever it was, it's pressing its' luck and coming back for you tonight for old times' sake. What will you do? Reel in terror at your tormentor returned? Laugh at him? Or will you get revenge once and for all?
>>
>>23079276
>A mysterious figure appearing in your room, tormenting you as you try to sleep?
no mystery, that's my sister
>>
oh boy did i ever things at night OP!

As a serious answer I will be getting revenge against those shadow people.
>>
>>23079307
You too, huh?

To be honest, my big sister was the first thing I ever feared.

>>23079322
You know the parameters of these threads. What do you have in your house and what will you use?
>>
>>23079276
That picture makes me laugh so much.
"Argh, I'm stuck! Damn it, I didnt think there would actually be stuf fin this closet!"
>>
I was thankfully never tormented by things as a child.

The only thing I had to do was I always had to sleep either on my back or my body facing the room. Facing the wall freaked me out to much with a big empty room behind me.

I recently had a freaky as fuck experience with some sleep paralysis just a few months ago, if anyone is interested. I usually keep that shit for /x/ or whatever though.
>>

i'd say i'd use the shotgun full of rocksalt i keep under my pillow, but my sister is military and could still probably kick my ass

Can't wait till the inevitable sexual responses.

I might've shared this story earlier, but I'm a regular /co/mrade, far more than I am a fa/tg/uy really, and in a thread about Stephen Gammell's artwork in Scary Stories to Read in the Dark, and he told us a tale of a pale, black-eyed, razor-toothed woman who would creep on him at night. While he probably intended for us to feel empathy for his fear, all we could think was "10/10 razor-mouth waifu" and told him he should've given her the dick.

I am actually far more interested in the motivations and philosophical implications of this guy; I mean, he really didn't do too much to me in my youth other than give me nightmares....

...better nightmares about him than or real world issues; endless wars, poverty, starving, dying alone, feeling like a failure in life, etc...

...I would try to learn more about him, maybe see if it is possible to engage him - what the fuck is he/where does he come from/what is his purpose

...that sort of shit. he can't be that malevolent; I'm still alive and have grown to be a well adjusted, normal human being...

tl;dr
be bros with the boogeyman
>>
ok OP, I answered here;
>>23079650

...so what's the deal, did you abandon thread already
>>
>>23079811
Slow down there slugger, I ain't no genie.

The only motivation for these things is pure sadism. They're evil because they're monsters and they're monsters because they're evil, it's just who they are, it's what they were made to do, the thought they could ever do anything else never occurs to them.

oh shit, it's him, he knows the evil that lurks in my heart!
>>
>>23079868
but I mean, to give a kid nightmares and scare him... there are far more sadistic things he could have done; maimed me, violated me, murdered my parents and loved ones... to just tease and scare me seems pretty low on the sadist scale... why not give me some legitimate, life-fucking scars to bear... these are the kind of questions I would want to know, and I would do anything I could to get them from him/it
>>
>dem shadow people
>dem people standing over me

You bastard, OP. Why would you remind me about them?

>that feel when you had frequent nightmares and sleep paralysis as a child
>those feels when you still get them occasionally
>>
>>23079924
Did you ever question these things as a child? Did they need a reason then? Besides, in an age of information stunts like that would reveal their presence and doom them to extinction. Forgot what horror movies would have you think, if that shit were real and it had physical consequences, the whole of mankind would declare open season on these fuckers.
>>
I'll finally have the balls and look out the window and see what the fuck is hitting it. Possibly throw a glass at it.
>>
did any of you try to lay traps for your monsters?
>>
I’ve had a few ethereal tormentors along the way:

When I was very little a trio of faceless figures in black hooded robes would materialize in my bedroom and silently move in a procession from one side to the other. Sometimes they would stop beside my bed and stand there watching me all night. In hindsight, they were probably some sort of shadow projected by the headlights of passing cars, but they seemed real enough at the time. They only bothered me in the first house I lived in, and I haven't seen them since I was about 7 years old.

Later on, I was occasionally visited by a pale, thin, faintly luminous female figure with large black eyes. She was always naked, but rather indistinct and inhuman in appearance. Most often she would linger near the window whispering softly, but at times she would lie down against me in the bed and run her fingers along my throat. I had the most terrifying feeling of suffocation and impending death whenever she touched me. Usually her visits lasted a few minutes after which she would fade away. Not so sure of the explanation for this one, other than maybe a recurring hallucination. It’s been about 4 years since I last saw her.

In any case, if the hooded figures appeared I wouldn't be particularly troubled. They seemed pretty bro-tier. Maybe offer them some whiskey if they were corporeal enough to drink it. If it was the pale naked thing, I dunno. I suspect that she would be more arousing than terrifying to me now, and I would be tempted to follow Descartes' advice regarding giving her the dick.
>>
I once tried to wait in the closet all night to bash the thing on the head when he materialized or entered through his trap door or however he got in that closet, I feel asleep in the stupid thing and woke up sore for my troubles.
>>
>>23080171
I ran a string back and forth all across the floor of my room and tied it to a little bell I had in the hopes of having a sort of alarm system to wake me if the boogeyman ever showed up.
>>

>I was occasionally visited by a pale, thin, faintly luminous female figure with large black eyes

As I child, I once visited my grandma's beach house in the tropics and we had to keep mosquito nettings over the beds for obvious reasons.
Anyway, at one point, I wake up in the middle of the night and see the giant silhouette of a centipede crawling on the netting.
For 8 hours, I was wide awake staring at this centipede until the rest of my family woke up. I was too scared to scream.

Seriously, I'll lose my shit if I ever see another centipede

I had a lot of these as a kid, I had trouble sleeping at night and as I lay in bed at night my eyes would play tricks with shadows and the like.
I remember they were always completely random every night, never the same ones twice, and they were always in large numbers.
One particular that I remember is a blue, short man dressed in cartoonish overalls swinging back and forth on a chandelier which he must have brought with him, since we had no chandelier.
Had some more sort of "Real" encounters with paranormal shit since then...

I remember when I was young, not five or six, I was always afraid of the things staring at me at night, especially the short, clawed, cyclops that always peered from the right.

My father asked me what was wrong one day.
"They're staring at me. I can't sleep."
My father thought for a moment. He was a trucker at the time, and though of the most practical solution.
"Go fuck'em up."
He handed me a sledgehammer almost as big as I was.

Much smashing later, I never feared the night again.

The scariest event I've ever experienced happened while I was hitchhiking through the midwest US during my "finding myself" phase.
I don't remember what state I was in when this happened, but one night I decided just to spend the night walking to the next town instead of staying in a motel because I felt restless.
At some point about 11 or midnight, the road I was on just disappears. I don't know if I can say disappeared or not, but it faded away or something like that.
I doubt my sanity during that time period.
Anyway, at this point, I feel completely lost because I'm in the middle of a field and have no idea where the road is, my phone is getting no signal and I can't tell where I am using my map.
At this point, I just start walking where I hope is west. After half an hour of walking like this I start feeling spine chills. It I start feeling the presence of something behind me breathing deply. I'm already paranoid at this point, so I just start running as fast as I can. After an hour of just straight sprinting, I find an abandoned shack and bar myself in there. For the next 5 or so hours until the sun rose, there was non-stop scratching on the zinc sheet shack walls and breathing coming from outside with the little shack practically being torn from the ground.
Scariest moment of my life.

On that note, the theme of this was supposed to be "classic horror" but I jumped the gun and exhausted that last night so I have to space it out with filler like this. Shit like zombies and werewolves were used and I'm planning on doing those later since they could hold their own threads. You don't even know what else I have planned.

Here's a hint for the endgame: Track 9 of "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars"

As a paranoid schizophrenic, I still get that.

All the time.

Plus other things, like bugs under my skin, eating myself, sand under my skin, etc.

I've even had relatively docile conversations with a few of my more normal hallucinations.

Not exactly like that, no. I wouldn't call "her" particularly "thin". But a luminous female figure, yes. Not particularly bright in terms of sheer light output: more like a soft glow than anything. But it was like the rest of the world around her grew darker instead, as if she was the only source of light in the world. The best way I can describe it is like looking at a monochrome negative image, or like a thermal image without color enhancement.

The nature of the encounters were rather different too: I can't ever remember feeling uncomfortable about it the dozen or so times I've seen her. Usually she just sits on my desk across the room, or on the dresser next to my bed, and watches me. I can recall once that she touched my head, and then it was light outside like I'd lost a few hours. If I had been awake or hallucinating, I must have fallen asleep right there on the spot, and if she was a dream I must've just stopped dreaming or something.

It's been a fair few months, but I still see her from time to time, especially when I'm really stressed out or sick. The last time was when I caught a stomach virus: I was too weak to move, and I couldn't even hold down water the first two days. Fever of about a hundred and three. Then, on the second night, I saw her again. The next morning the fever had broken.

And that's why hearing about an ethereal "woman" gives me what scientists call a bad case of the "heebie-jeebies". It's a little too close for comfort.

When I was four or five, my parents made the mistake of letting me read The Time Machine. The morlocks- industrious subterranean cannibals who are the far-future descendants of mankind- formed the primary antagonists of my nightmares for years and years. Many is the night I spent running for my life through dark forests, dank caves, abandoned cityscapes, and industrial smoke-and-fire factories. Many is the night I spent desperately hiding behind a campfire of a floodlight. Many is the night I spent awake, besieged, the 40 watt bulb of my elephant lamp the only thing between me and being dragged off into the darkness. The few victories I won against them only made them hate me more, made them try new and more ingenious tactics. They tried allying with my other nightmares, or compromising friendly imaginary beings, or breeding new horrors that could bypass each of my countermeasures.

One night, when I was ten or so, I had one particularly vivid series of narrow escapes from them, after breaking into a mighty Morlock stronghold to free my friends and family from a grizzly fate. I knew it was a trap, but I similarly knew I had no choice. I went in with six of my best imaginary friends by my side, and not all of us made it out again. But we saved the prisoners (those who had not already been graphically vivisected, at least), and fled through miles and miles of corridors to the surface- only to be cornered on the last bridge, within sight of salvation. We were outnumbered at least 1000 to 1 by a horde of dark skulking abhumans and things less easily described. I knew there was no way I was getting out of this alive, but I was prepared to sell my life as dearly as I could. I raised my voice in something that was half a battle cry and half a desperate plea to any god who would listen, closed my eyes, and charged...
>>
>>23080912
only to see the horde in front of me annihilated by fire from the sky.

The next night, an otherwise pleasant dream was suddenly interrupted by a terrific apparition of red and violet flames. Behind the searing flames and blinding light, I could just make out a tall, armoured, humanoid form. He introduced himself as the La'ak Fiar, the Morlock God of the Sun. Given that they were a photophobic race, he was also their god of death. He told me that he was in the market for a new Herald, and I just happened to owe him a favour. One way or another, my relationship with the morlocks would never be the same...

My recurring nightmares used to be of lying on a long empty street in a thick forest unable to move, hearing a car approach and desperately trying to move my slow unwilling body out of the way only to fail and wake up at the moment the car would have hit me.

The spookiest thing that I've ever actually seen was when I was on the subway and saw the same cleaning lady cleaning the platform two stations in a row. Not that spooky.

Coincidently I also had a out-of-body experience while waiting for the subway.

My sleep paralysis is pretty consistent, and though I do -also- get waking dreams, I don't usually get both at once.

For paralysis, I just wake up in the sense that I can see the room I'm in. Trying to actually move feels pretty painful, it's like a pins and needles sensation but amplified across the entire limb.

The waking dreams are bizarre and usually lewd.

The good news is that when I'm actually fully asleep, I'm almost a perfect lucid dreamer after early experiences with night terrors, though I can't always make things happen how I want. My sleep cycles can be pretty intense overall.

I've been suffering from insomnia for years.
The first time I've not slept for 5 days straight was when I was still in my teens. Around the 4th day I started to feel incredibly paranoid. Around the 5th day I started "feeling" something behind me. It never makes any noises and I've never seen anything (save maybe for a few shadowy wisps in the corner of my eyes). But my brain tells me something is there and it's dangerous.

It can't really come back though. It never left to begin with.
>>
I was terrified of all kinds of small openings that could be imagined as an eye. I thought they stared at me. The winner was the keyhole to a wardrobe door. It stared at me.

Clever kid as I was I got a good helping of duct tape and taped over everything that looked like an eye.

I was also terrified of fire.. But apart from having a fire alarm and a fire extinguisher in my apartment there isn't much I can do if a huge-ass bonfire come knocking.

Then of course there were the spiders. I'm still terrified of those, and usually let my cats handle them.
>>
>>23081817
Oh yeah. Same here. Whenever I stay up for more than 20 hours things start moving in the periphery of my sight, and I feel watched.

Then again, I've had full out hallucinations of things like a cat stroking itself against my leg (visual AND tactile hallucination at the same time), and seeing cats sit in dark corners of my apartment.

This wouldn't be nearly as freaky if I OWNED cats. Haven't had cats since I moved away from home.

I had two fairly regular nightmares as a kid, I think I could now cope with one of them.

I've always been a bit of an arachnophobe and for quite a long time I had this horrible fear that while lying in bed as soon as I closed my eyes colossal spider legs were going to reach around the bed from underneath and pin me in place.
Frankly I don't think I could cope any better with that now than I could back then.

The other was one of the apparently pretty common mysterious creepy women, who yeah I'm pretty sure I'd now just try to have sex with.

I remember as a child something used to walk through my house at night. It always started at the ground floor and I could hear it's footsteps slowly pace through each room of the groundfloor. Sounded like it was exploring each room.
Then a pause, the first time it happened I thought I had imagined the footsteps but then I heard them start again up the stairs, slower than anything human. A step every 8 seconds roughly.
The noise wasn't loud at all. Just barely on the edge of hearing at first.
I always used to sleep with my door closed and it would step outside the door and then wait. You know how you can sometimes tell when someone is standing behind you. Well I could TELL it was outside my door. I would be silent as possible unmoving in my bed. My body was stiff and sore from laying so still. My head would go dizzy from the effort of breathing so little. Hoping it would go away. After about 20 minutes it would move on to my brothers room next to mine.
After the first few times this happened it began to speak. I can't remember what it said or what it sounded like but I understood what it was saying.
'Let me in'

One night my door was left open.
I was feeling ill that day so I went to bed early. My mum came into my room when I was dozing and checked on me. When she left she didn't close the door.
I remember waking up to the sound of its footsteps below me. The same as before. Step step step pause. Step step step pause. Then up the stairs to my door.
I didn't realise my door was open. My room was very dark and I couldn't see that the door was ajar. Again it stood outside and whispered quietly.
'Let me in'
And then I guess it must have realised the door was open. I heard the door creak open slowly and I've gotta say I nearly crapped myself. But I still didn't move as I was convinced that if I did it would get me.
It walked slowly over to my bed and just stood there. I had heard the footsteps and I could tell it was about a ft away from my head. Waiting again. I opened my eyes and saw just a dark shape leaning over my bed. A dark face that was basically all mouth. Smiling at me.
It then just walked out after I had seen it.
>>
I had and still have really a huge problem with lucid/waking dreams. Like I would naturally fall into the pattern and seem to find myself locked down but still able to look around my room at night. Seeing a ghostly blue violin lady playing for me, seeing E fucking T just chilling in my bedroom corner eating M&Ms;

but by far the worst was 'waking up' and hearing what might have been someone crying, I realise their is a weight on my feet and look down to see like a baby facing away from me sitting on my legs, it them turns its head towards me Excorcist 180 head spin complete with neck cracking and just screams, and I mean fucking SCREAMS so loud it hurt. I was freaking the fuck out but my body was paralyzed and it just sat there screaming and its mouth opened so wide that the skin around its mouth started to rip.

Then it exploded into flies and I woke up proper.
I was like 12 and was crying for a good part of 2 hours after that. Fuck I don't think I could handle that shit today

Then a tiny scrap of dark-blue crayon paper would fall from the sky, and everything would freeze and get super slow-motion. And then parts of the room would start to vanish, and I could never make it to the door in time.
How on earth am I supposed to fight that?

I used to think that the far away lights from houses and lamposts, floodlights and so on were giant cyclopses following us home. But do I have to fight my grandmother? She died and when I was a kid, I swore I saw her in my room twice.

I never actually saw or really thought about what was lurking in my room; I just covered myself in a duvet (even in the middle of summer) so that they couldn't sniff me out.

Jesus fucking christ anon, I nearly shat my pants reading your post.

Well, I'm going to start from the beginning.
What you si in [pic related] is the view of my room, from my bed, to my door. Behind me it's only a wall, so I mostly sleep turned this way to watch the door (its something like a primal custom, watching the entrance makes you feel safer or something). Its a small room, but I live in Poland, so its a standard flat. My room is in a kind of a corner of the house, being the most isolated and stuff. When you open the door, I only see part of the corridor.

So one day, I went to sleep really early (I'm on my studies, so my sleep sheldue is very irregular, sometimes I sleep for 2 hours, and then 14 hours the next night). So when I go to sleep this early, I often ask my parents, to try to be quiet. They spend the evening watching the tv, and I only see some of the light, switched in the corridor, lighting up those four glass panels on the door [pic related].

Well, I'm sleeping just fine, when I wake up a little bit, I watch the door, still almost asleep and I see that the light is turned in the corridor. So now I think this must be something like 23, maybe a little bit later, because my parent are apparently still awake. Then i feel itching on my right leg. So I decide to scratch it, I lift myself to his apollo-kind of pose, something between sitting and lying, and proceed to scratch my leg. Now that I'm more awake, I notice something strange.

The light is too strong, and I can clearly see the door open.
The I focus my eyes on the door and see a fucking shadow, standing in the door.

It wasn't even scary, It was maybe 3/4 of the door height, so maybe 160cm tall, stood there like it was blocking the door, I mean the pose. I could clearly see it had arms and legs although it was just pure clack shade.
Also it appeared to be steaming, or fuming, like his whole body emitted some kind of black smoke.
>>
>>23083331
I woke up almost instantly, still lying in the bed, with everyone in the house asleep, all lights off, and generally nothing strange. It was 2 AM so I just went back to sleep.

I thought it was kinda similar, but not as hardcore as your.

Alright.

It's hard to say exactly what her height is given that I'm looking up at her from my bed, but I'd guess she's around 5'10" tall. She has an unnaturally thin and elongated body build, but definitely feminine. Narrow waist, small breasts, etc. You’d expect to see ribs sticking out given her emaciated build, but there are none visible. She does not appear to breathe. Her body is entirely hairless, as is her head.

Her skin is very pale, more like greyish white than normal human skin tone, and seems to emit a faint glowing luminescence. Not enough to cast light on objects around her, but enough that she is visible regardless of the light level in the room and shadows are not cast on her. She is always naked, and appears to be “anatomically correct” so to speak, but the ethereal glow that surrounds her makes the details rather indistinct. It’s almost like she looks out of focus. It’s difficult to explain, but there is something decidedly non-sexual about her nudity. Like it’s just her nature.

As far as her face is concerned, she seems entirely expressionless. Her eyes are about 50% larger than those of a normal person, and are entirely black. I’ve never seen her blink. Small mouth, always closed. Small or nonexistent nose, though there is sort of a hint of nostrils. Again, her ethereal and indistinct nature makes details difficult to pick out.

Fap as you wish, hedonis/tg/entleman.

When I was young I built a secret fort in this huge dirt hill out back. I had cards and stuff back there and it was dangerous as shit.
One day it fell on me. I was completely caved in. One of the sides was hard soil and the other, the way out, was several hundred pounds of dirt. I thought I was going to die. I dug my way out and didn't tell anybody. I was actually sick for days, coughing and vomiting blood and dust.

About a week later I couldn't sleep, the nightmares were too much. I went upstairs at about 11pm and asked my parents, who were watching TV, why dying had to happen. Anyone want to break the tie? Wat do, /tg/?

Silly anon, there is no tie. The vote is clearly in favor of giving her the dick.

You'll probably be killed regardless of what you do, but wouldn't you rather die balls deep in a nameless horror from beyond time and space, than die trying to hide behind some improvised occult barrier?

As a kid, there used to be this weird...Gollum-y thing that I would sometimes see outside my window, crawling on my neighbors roof. Couldn't ever make much out from it, due to it mostly being on moonless, or close to it, nights. Never did anything. Just crawl around and sat there. Definitely humanoid, and DEFINITELY scared the shit out of 7 year old me.

There was also my possibly haunted alarm clock/radio. And something in my closet on rare occasions I could hear playing with my toys.
>>
>>23080577
>I'm gonna say that the pale female night visitor some people get is a psychopomp.
Yeah, I'd agree on that count. It sounds a lot like one banshee interpretation - appears as a herald of death, but isn't lethal in and of itself.

>>23081921
Wait, but aren't stuffed toys safe? I mean, they wouldn't give them to kids otherwise, would they? WOULD THEY?!

I haven't had that specific things thing happen, although if one recurring nightmare turns out to be real, all I'll probably need will be a strong fan and a small pile of something thoroughly hygroscopic. (Evil cloud that wanted to eat me. For some reason, it could always find a way in, even though the window was closed.) Although if the other nightmare I really vividly remember is true, then not only am I fucked, but the Chuckle Brothers are too.
>>
>>23087256
Yup, that's a banshee alright. Unless you're ill, you're probably fine.

>>23088008
BOTH. DO BOTH. If the former works, you have ass to tap pretty much every night, if the latter, you don't need to worry about it.

Okay, see that doesn't quite fit with what I've seen. My version has no eyes that I've ever been able to discern, though there are two areas where her eyes should be that shine brighter, almost to the point of being painful if you focus on them too much. She also, aside from being a glowing spirit/dream/warp entity, could pass for human in terms of her proportions, and has an approximation of hair.

The non-sexual aspect about her nudeness struck me as an accurate description, but mine feels a bit more emotional: I get the distinct impression that she frowns when I'm sick or anxious and smiles when I start to feel more relaxed.

Smiling and frowning has been the limit of the communication, as I get the distinct impression that while she seems concerned with my welfare, the right word for initiating any sort of significant communication is "impropriety". As if it COULD be done, but it simply SHOULDN'T by some tacit understanding.

I lived in an old house in the suburbs, where the whole house made noises like that. Also, the back windows of the house always creeped me out when it was dark, because it always felt like someone or something was staring in through them.

It was only when I grew up that I found out the previous owners were murdered on the back porch, right outside the windows I always hated as a kid.

They always told me "there's nothing there in the dark that isn't there in the light". That used to reassure me.

Oh, I know both the city and the country. My fiancee's place is in the city, and what with neighbours, etc, creaks and groans happen all over the place. Because her staircase is pretty dark too at night, even with the light on, I'm absolutely positive, when I walk on the landing, I see something at the bottom of the stairs.

When I'm at my parents place, out in the countryside, however, when I'm pulling the curtains shut, I'm sure, standing out on the field behind there house, there is a humanoid shape standing out there, slowly moving towards their house. I'm also positive that things keep trying to peer through the cracks in the curtains there.

Never had a consistent bogeyman as a kid, but lots of one-shot incidental nightmares that usually got turned around into action scenes by sheer force of will. I remember one lucid dream a few years ago where I was someone else, died, then decided "Fuck that noise" and continued the dream from another person's perspective.

When I'm awake its a different story. All my life I've always been noticing movement out of the corner of my eyes. Didn't matter where. Out in the country, indoors, broad daylight. Always something, usually small, moving just out of sight, like it didn't want to be bothered.

I'm this anon from yesterday. Since the thread is still around, I'll share my one and only sleep paralysis/scary shit sleeping general. This happened about 3-4 months ago, so I wasn't a kid or anything.

Basically I wake up early in the morning in my bed, unable to really move my body. I feel stiff. There is a loud buzzing sound, the one that gets trapped in your ear sometimes. I am looking down with my eyes to the foot of my bed, where there seems to be a shadowy figure standing in the corner of the room, away from my bed. Then I shift my eyes and it is closer, before shifting my eyes again and it was then standing next to me. Strangely, it was standing "in" my bed, so its legs were like phasing through my bed or whatever. At that moment the buzzing intensified loudly and then it suddenly stopped, and the figure dispirited. I blinked and could suddenly move, and shook myself awake.

Now most people might have been scared, but I really wasn't because I knew about dream paralysis and so I just chalked it up to that. I took a drink and a piss and went back to bed.

Freakiest thing that's ever happened to me my whole life. Pretty tame, in all honesty.

That reminds me of an episode of Ed Edd N' Eddy. The power went out in the Cul-De-Sac and Ed started telling everyone that mole people who lived in the sewers were responsible. When Kevin and Rolf, and later Double D (Edd) went down to the sewers to help restore power, Ed told everyone the mole people had taken them. He claimed that they were weak to stale hot dog buns so Eddy began peddling them to the kids of the Cul-de-Sac.

I've always been terrified of it because I used to have the most vivid nightmares about that kind of stuff. This was well before I even had the internet, so my fear was well entrenched long before I started finding pictures of my tormentor.

It was definitely strange when I got older though, finding that a bunch of other people whom I had never met or had any form of contact with whatsoever seeing/hearing/illustrating the very same spooky fella that I did.
>>
>>23096076
The thing with "classic" horrors like The Rake or Slenderman is that the stories have been retold and embellished so many times that the truth of the original encounter is lost and you just get /x/ creepypasta.

I find the personal accounts of individual fa/tg/uys much more unnerving, even where the visitors they describe are less horrific than the iconic ones. The pale woman, the various shadow people, whisperers in the dark. It's so much more powerful when it carries the authenticity of an individual's real fear.
>>
>>23096248
But I never had those experiences. Hell, last night i had a dream that was more like a surreal GMOD workshop map a la "Paranoia".

The only real "nightmares" I've ever had were just about my dad or my sister picking on me. Likewise for a friend of mine who used to have nightmares about his dad locking him in a dark, cold room.

When I was a kid, if I was walking around along I'd sometimes feel like something was looming over me.

This thing was significantly larger than I was. As in, if it stood up straight it would be as tall as a telephone pole. But it hunched over and stared at the top of my head.

Sometimes it would feel, very strongly, like that moment right before somebody puts their hand on your shoulder from behind, like to get your attention; When you can just barely see them out of the corner of your eye. But it never touched me, it would just hang there, and the anticipation of it coming into contact with me was psychologically painful - like you don't know if something's going to hurt you or not, but it's contact with you is impending and unstoppable.

I never saw it, but for some reason I feel as though it was black, vaguely humanoid but with many limbs. I don't know about a head, but for whatever reason both avian and mask-like features come to mind.

It left when I had my first girlfriend. She was far scarier than that thing. She, as far as I knew, was real.

I only once had that feeling again, maybe a number of months ago. I am a little ashamed to admit that the irrational side of me got the better of my rationality and I told it to go away. It hasn't come back since.

Damn it /tg/, it's been a while since the horrors of the darkness have bothered me at all. Now I read this thread and the fear comes flooding back.

I never really had anything of a regular visitor other than shadowy figures I would see when in near total darkness. But the paranoia grips me quite hard due to my anxiety problem. And of course I hadn't taken my medicine for it since several days ago.

Still, I think after this thread if I were to ever find myself with a visitor I would try my best to be like the Anon with the plague doctor and try to make contact with my guest. I mean, sure a mysterious figure coming out of the darkness is menacing as fuck, but someone/thing that can do that could do all sorts of shit to me if it felt like it. But instead it just makes itself known and does nothing. So I would try to find out why. Maybe even form a relationship of some sort.

Still the idea of meeting something is terrifying to me. I hope you're happy /tg/.

>Tall, thin, gelatinous shadow man roams our room at night. I was fairly skeptical for a kid, so I told myself many times that such thing couldn't possibly exist. However I had very acute night vision and could still see him (as well as the occasional insect) even with every light turned off.
>Bro slept like the dead, nothing could wake him up short of our father yelling at him or something.
>Felt scared and worried about bro, didn't told him anything because I knew he wouldn't believe me. This went on for almost a week.
>Seventh night barely getting any sleep I hear my bro gasp. I turn on the flashlight I had hidden with me, and he asks me if i see something. Just to be sure I ask him to tell me what he saw. "A very tall shadow of a guy, with a slight hint of purple."
HOLY SHIT.
>"It's probably nothing anyway, lil bro, let's sleep. We'll know in the morning."
>See shadow again a few minutes later. Smiles with slightly more purple, sharp teeth. I think it might bite me.
>Scared to death, unable to scream, somehow able to throw a punch with all my might into whatever that thing had for a face. I FELT as if I was passing through something much colder than the air in the room, and feeling like dissolved jell-o.
>It's never a good idea to throw a full punch when you're a kid with poor equilibrium from a very tall bed while you're prone.
"Ouch"
>Dad comes in and turns the light on: "What's going on anon?"
>"I thought there was someone in the room dad, I threw a punch and fell from the bed." Dad checks everything to ensure there aren't any rats or anything similar. I feel safer.
"Maybe you had a dream or something"?

Salut, comrade.
>>
Whenever I'd have nightmares, I'd mock it, and be an all around sarcastic fuck to it. Maybe because I was just a little aware that it was a dream, and mockery was a way of distancing myself from it? It's a good thing though, my nightmares were silent hill-esque bullshit.

Anyways, the thing I'd probably encounter is the fucking redneck cultist. The dream began with this tweaker-looking redneck conducting a strange ritual. I don't remember the events of the ritual, besides the blood.

It all culminated in the tweaker hefting up a large hatchet, and with a large, winding stroke, cracking his own head open, and pouring a bucket of hot tar in the bloody skull wound, before the body fell over.

Naturally, the body got back up, a mockery of life, eyes burnt out by the tar, with steam and burns all over. It is then that I woke up.

>Next morning I'm going for the tool shed. I get out a small piece of the hardest wood I can find. It's some beautiful, pink wood with some rich brown tones in it, likely something special (I feel bad for dad because I was using it, however I didn't realize this was a leftover barely useful to him). I get out a hacksaw, some sandpaper, and a bucket of water. (If I was caught I could lie and say I was going to wash dad's car or something)
>Work most of the morning but get caught and eventually have to use my excuse and really wash the car. Dad suspects something but says nothing about it.
After lunch, sneak out and work some more.
>By night I had crafted a really sharp "instrument of death" 6 inches long. We have an aunt that lives nearby and has some holy water. Ask for a little and decline to explain what for. Drop a little on the edge of my new knife.
Because it never hurts to have a holy weapon, right? Even if you don't believe that much on that sort of thing.
>Conclude that the thing is made of shadow, thus light may weaken it. Get brightest flashlight from the shed.
>When it appears, turn on flashlight, scream battlecry, then wooden knife aimed at the hip.
>I think I hear the thing whimper softly before everyone wakes up.
>Suddenly realize I've made a small hole in the wall with a weapon my family didn't know existed.
>Have to explain all this shit to everyone. Bro defends me, says that he saw it the night before.
>Father isn't amused at all, until he sees the wooden knife on the floor, now the broken tip still embedded inside the wall (adobe).
>Examines the improv weapon. "You made this, anon? In one day?" runs finger everywhere.
"Not a single splinter"
>"Yeah". Took me longer because the wood was hard
>He smiles. Hands back the dagger to me. Mom yells at us, but dad takes her out and calms her.
>Bro says I'm probably grounded but we decide to go sleep.
>>
>>23098177

>Wake up, the plague doctor is back there, sitting on one of those metal spin stools the doctors use.
>No sound from the rest of the hospital
>Wipe tears from my eyes
>"Sorry you have to see me like this."
>"It...it's just that, I don't want to die. I mean, nobody really wants to die, and maybe I won't from this, but there's that chance, you know. It happened to my aunt, it could happen to me. And there's still so much I haven't done yet. I wanted to go to university, see the world, raise a family...so why me? Why do I have to go now? I'm not even an adult!"
>Doctor takes my hand in its, too exhausted to even care about the electric feeling.
>Lie there for what seems like hours, just holding hands.
>It stands up, bends over my head
>Feel something feathery on my forehead, like the brushing of something soft against my skin
>"....sorry...goodbye..."
>Wake up, I'm on a gurney being wheeled into ultrasound
>They're doing another ultrasound to confirm the results and for more data or something
>Ultrasound finishes, doctor and assistants are visibly baffled about something
>My appendix has returned to normal size, like it was never infected in the first place
>They're absolutely confused about the entire thing, comparing the first outcome and the second
>I'm kept in the hospital overnight, so they can monitor me for any signs of it returning
>Morning rolls around, I undergo a third ultrasound, certified clear, and mom drives me home

>"I was praying for you last night, Anon."
>"Huh?"
>"I was sitting in the hospital chapel, praying for you, and then I heard a whisper, like the one that woke me up. It said you would be fine, and to tell you that it would miss you."
>"Oh..."
>Experience a sense of depression. Spend the rest of the day sitting in my room, staring at the spot on the floor where I normally set up the table and games.

That was 10 years ago. I haven't experienced any nighttime visitors since. To this date, my father thinks it was an error with the ultrasound machine and a misdiagnosis. My mother hasn't commented about it since then, but she did tell a week after that about how, as a baby, when she brought me back from the hospital I spent all my time crying for three days. Then, while she was attempting to nurse me at night, I stopped crying and started looking at one of the corners of the room, before I started smiling and laughing.

I don't know. Now looking back at this, it's hardly a tale of romancing at all. But I still can't help but miss that doctor. I just don't think she was the cause of that illness. It's not a feeling I can explain, but there are times when I stay up at night, hoping to catch a glimpse of her again.

>First thing in the morning, my parents explain to us how the brain plays tricks on us and how we should always warn them if we think there's an intruder on the house. Bro suggest installing some sensors outside just in case, but the suggestion is dropped quickly.

>I end up repairing the wall to the best of my skill with my dad's help. He ends up taking the wooden dagger away because it's dangerous for us. I nod and tell him that I'll scream if I see anything suspicious.

I never saw that thing again, ever. And for all the maliciousness it had I hope I never will.

I wish I had been visited by something more bening though.

That said, my standard response to being suddenly wakened is to violent shove whatever is above me away, thank you tormenting siblings from my youth.

If the old shadowy figure I see moving in the dark corners of my room as fatiqued child returns, it has a fight on it's hands. I'm not some kid thats scared of the unknown, even if I have to body tackle it into it's own realm and beat it to death barehanded. I conquer my fears.
