The system:
See Image or the Pastebin for a detailed ruleset. pastebin.com/e3q4q0MP
That'll tell you more than you wanted to know.

Basic rules still apply (Grey Box): Roll d20: Highest dice roll out of the first three rolls is used for the Dice Check (DC), while all three rolls are averaged to determine other internal factors, if applicable. Natural 20’s and Critical Failures (1) supersede all other rolls made.

Roll d100: d100’s are used for different factors, the most applicable of which will be listed at the call for the roll. High is always better.

Rolling for Time: When asked to roll for time, the first roll response will be used, with additional rolls used as necessary. This is the only time low rolls are desired.

NewType powers, since they are plot breaking, will be based on a point system.
For every natural 20 you roll, you'll get .5 NTP. If you roll an 11 on a d20, it will be worth .25 of a NTP. Double rolls on a D100 will also garner .25 NTP.

You can exchange 1 NTP for an automatic critical success / plot breaking idea. You can also exchange 1 NTP to reduce an opposing main character's plot armor by 1/4 or 1/2 on any actions you take against them - the amount reduced will be situational, and depend on what you're planning on doing.

Here's the general gist of what we're working with:
Bright Noah joins Zeon instead of the Earth Federation (For Reasons Yet Unexplored), and is promoted to Captain of the Musai class cruiser ‘Longfellow’ for his actions during the One Week Battle / Battle of Loum. Newly minted Majors Bright and Char Aznable are ordered by Dozle Zabi to perform a joint investigation of the rumored Earth Federation Mobile Suit in development at Side 7. Bright has just discovered the Federation is making another unit in the neutral territory of Side Six.

-------------Side Omake 1: It’s Technical-------------

Kareem watched as the two sides of the Zudah hanger doors carefully closed from their half-open position. The Zudah was lowered, and spun 45 degrees to the right as the dais came even with the deck. A weapons rack slid out from both sides, and he deposited the 135 in it’s designated slot, placing the weapon on a diagonal slant – the only way it would fit in the hangar, considering it’s size.

The communications officer relayed Bright’s order to for him to perform escort duty, and he acknowledged it as he released his restraints and disembarked the Zudah.

The technicians offered a salute, no doubt grateful for his and Lieutenant Hatzenbuehler’s earlier prevention of a critical ammunitions failure in the Zudah bay. He returned the salute, as they were the ones maintaining these machines, and deserved his thanks for keeping them in good order.

Kareem took a ring elevator up to the Zaku hangar, but as he approached the last stop, he could see brown hair and an eye patch being revealed. “Captain Seabooke,” he said, coming to a stop by her.

“Com’ere, Sarge, I need to show you something,” She said with a quirk of her lips. Kareem shrugged, knowing he’s have a minute before the Zaku II’s were prepped for another sortie, and followed Laurie into the pilot’s lounge. Chance and Wyatt were resting on the couch as they entered, and Lourie quickly grabbed the remote, and flipped the television on the far wall over to lecture mode, uploading some photos into it.

The first thing on the screen was the Ball unit he had captured in the debris field. “So, this is the style of Ball we fought in Loum, right?” She asked, and Kareem nodded, “It’s an SP-W03 Mobile Pod with a 180 recoilless cannon wielded on top.”

“Did you find something new?” Kareem asked. “Because this information is already known.”

She flipped the image to another Ball unit, this one an RB-79 ball. “Here’s what we just fought. Note the heavier armor, and the smaller view port.”

Kareem studied the photo. The new ball did look to be better armored than the previous model. “And?”

“That makes this one the finalized version, right?” Lourie asked as Jean entered the lounge surrounded by women. He had his arm over Marlyin’s shoulder, and was smirking. Right until he saw Lourie.

She pointed at Jean, shouted “You got cornered by TECHNICALS!” and then giggled madly.

Kareem shook his head and left for the Zaku hangar as Jean began asking just what the hell Lourie was on about. He heard the Captain gasp out “You, Loum, twelve, technicals!” before falling into another giggling fit.

Bright eyed the schematics on the screen, and then turned to the communications officer. “I want you to find Sergeant Ask and inform her I want her in the CIC as soon as possible,” he ordered, then kicked off towards the door at speed. He grabbed the rail, slapped the open button with his free hand, and spun into the hall.

Thankfully the hall was empty, and he grabbed a ring elevator to take him down to the war room. As he entered, he saw Jane at the smart-table, idly tapping her fingers on the edge. “Have you finished those encrypted SD cards yet?” Bright asked her.

She gestured towards the table’s display, where a progress bar was sitting at 98%. “No, it takes the system awhile to input the valid key information, I’ve been waiting, stuck on this for the past ten minutes,” she explained, rising from her chair. “Coffee?”

“Sure. And it’s a good thing they’re not done yet – I need you to add something,” Bright inserted his hardware encryption key into a slot on the table across from Jane, and began typing text commands to the Bridge crew. In a few moments he had the RX-78NT-1 plans thrown on the far wall, and pointed at them. “I need these encrypted and sent to Dozle yesterday.”

Jane turned from the coffee machine and saw the schematics. “What in the world?” She asked, setting the coffee cups down and walking to Bright.

The projector chose that moment to throw another window on top of the schematics, one that showed a woman in a normal suit hunched over a console in a smoke filled environment. “God damn, sassin-frassin, work you son of a bitch!” came over the room’s speakers in a low growl as the woman smacked her hand into the console in frustration. She then realized it was on, and broadcasting. “Oh! Sorry, sir. You wanted me?”
>>
>>23065635

Bright quickly put two and two together, realizing Christine and part of her tech team must have been requisitioned by the commando’s to help search the computers of the ‘Nero’ for information, and asked “How did your team find these mobile suit schematics, Sergeant?”

“Communication log buffers, sir,” the young technical sergeant said cheerily. “The packet containing it didn’t have a routing address, which means it wasn’t going to anyone on this ship, so the packet was just sitting there being a data hog. Naturally I got curious and started poking at it. And, here we are.”

“So it was waiting for a counter challenge?” Jane asked.

“Probably a sniffer, or a program set up to spot and identify certain packet headers in a data transmission,” Christine explained. “This was probably broadcast on all channels, appended to a general orders update or updated fire doctrine would be my guess; unless you were specifically looking for it, you wouldn’t even know it was there. Then, the next time you enter friendly territory, the system would send this packet out with the other outgoing mail, wipe itself from the communications buffer, and repeat the process.”

“Sounds almost virus-like in behavior,” Bright mused.

“That’s a pretty good way of thinking about it, sir. It gets sent to your computer, you don’t know it’s there, and it continues to propagate copies of itself until it hits the computer it was meant to be sent to,” she agreed. “By going through the EFF Fleet’s comm. traffic, it stays out of the laser comm. satellite grid, which they probably figure to be bugged,” she looked at Jane, who looked back impassively, “…and while it might take a little longer to get where it needs to go, it will eventually get there through the multiple redundancy aspect.”
>>
>>23065644

“A lot like our system of using hand delivered, secure SD cards and hardware encryption keys, then,” Bright said, “Just more automated.”

“Yes, sir. But there was no encryption, beyond the fact there wasn’t any routing data. Like I said, I got curious, and poked it. It opened up readily enough once I told the system the data was there. If I hadn’t been a hacker in my younger days, or gotten the request from Sergeant Romera to come to the Nero with the Moon Breaker’s, you wouldn’t have this information.”

“I’m glad they asked for your team’s help, then,” Bright said. “In your professional opinion, do these plans seem legitimate? Or a smoke screen meant to draw attention from somewhere else?”

“Like I said, sir, no one would know this information was there in the system unless they were specifically looking for anything out of the ordinary, and with this just sitting in the buffer, it would look like outgoing mail to a cursory inspection. Also, if you ignore the sections that are incomplete, these are most definitely proper blue prints, sir,” Christine shrugged, and then caught herself by grabbing the console as the motion lifted her above the video pickup. “With enough study, we might be able to adapt certain aspects of these plans into our Zaku line. I’m particularly interested in the ‘panoramic cockpit’ that’s mentioned, but that is one of the incomplete sections. These over-size leg verniers, though, could be fabricated and thrown onto a Zaku pretty quick, once you adjust or recast the calf armor to accommodate them.”

Bright nodded. “That’s what I needed to know. Keep up the good work, Chris.”

On the Nero, Christine saluted hard enough to cause her to drift backwards. “Sir! Will do, sir!”
>>
>>23065648

Bright cut the transmission and turned to Jane. She held up a hand and said, “I’m on it,” and turned back to the smart table, which had finally finished encrypting the two SD cards she had begun a half hour earlier. After that, it took only minutes to transfer the maps showing the location of the Magellan derelict (now turned prison ship), the information on the combat with the Nero and the surrender of her crew, the agreed upon Terms of Surrender, and the RX-78NT-1 schematics. After which they were placed into two small manila envelopes, and Bright sealed them with his signet ring.

He then left the war room and took the ring elevator down the main shaft to the engineering and cargo sections. The Kommusai bay was at the far end of these, and he grabbed a lift rail to facilitate travel.

Upon arrival, Bright was saluted by the Kommusai pilot, co-pilot, and Kareem Councilman. Bright handed an envelope to the Kommusai pilot and to Kareem. “These need to get to Pezun soonest,” Bright ordered. As Kareem slipped the envelope into his normal suit’s utility pouch, Bright continued. “They contain not only the information on the derelict battleships, and our prisoners, but also information found on the Nero’s computers that is vital to the war effort, and must be delivered to Lord Dozle Zabi at once.”

The men assembled saluted, and Bright returned the salute. “God speed, gentlemen.”

Ah, ToS Six. Here's the Terms of Surrender for a quick reference:

>1. No enemy personnel will be allowed to board the Siegfried, due to security concerns.
>2. The enemy cruiser will not target, fire, or engage in hostilities upon the Siegfried, her crew, or any derelict craft or debris within the Loum Shoal Field.
>3. The enemy cruiser shall surrender its capsule craft, unmanned, at once.
>4. All enemy personnel will be required to wear Normal Suits without utility belts (no tools, pressure tape, or weapons), and be escorted via capsule craft piloted and protected by Zeon Commando Teams to a Magellan hull that is promised to be pressurized and capable of supporting human life for the duration of the wait necessary for a Zeon transport to arrive and take the EFF personnel into custody.
>5. Enemy personnel shall be transferred via capsule craft to said pressurized hull.
>6. The Siegfried will remain on station until communications guaranteeing the transfer of enemy personnel is received from Pezun or other Zeon Command HQ.

You could also choose to utilize either the Salvaged Salamis your technicians have been working on, which can move under it's own power now, OR the Magellan's capsule craft, though it won't put up with the 'Tug' test Bright came up with for the Triple. The Salamis can, though.

It's an Eleven hour trip from this section of the Debris field to Pezun, as well, so you do have time to fuss around with crew and equipment transfers, and the like.

The vote also went to sending the remaining two Zaku's out on another Salvage patrol - who do you guys want to send out?

Lourie, Chance and Wyatt have suffered combat fatigue.
Kareem is removed from the roster due to being the Kommusai's escort.
Jean, Marylin, Pamila, and Jane are availible, though you'd have to talk Jane into doing it.

Bright has a PASS Score of 56.

The Zaku - Zudah tethers allow you to remotely operate the Zudah's, at the cost of using the Zaku's as the control unit. The Zaku keeps a parallel course at ten meters away, and can cut the connection in case the Zudah goes out of control.

So, if you go the tether route, you can't do the Salvage Patrols at the same time, but you can send a Salvage Patrol out while transferring the critical testing equipment from the Siegfried to either the Salamis or the Magellan's capsule craft.

The 'Tug' method also uses a Zaku, but the Zudah is lashed to the hull of a larger ship. This lets you test the Zudah's engine's at full output without fear of crashing into debris. And if it starts to redline and is about to explode, the Zaku cuts the control and lashing tethers, letting the Zudah fly off and blow up somewhere else like the unmanned missile it is at that point.

So, What're we doin? I need something for bright to say to convince Jane to accompany him in a Zudah test, and you need to choose what ship is testing the Zudah's.
>>
>>23066373
wait i thought we agreed that pamila was going to be one of the people testing the zudas as part of her punishment
>>
>>23066453
Several people were stating that 'we should make Pamila fly the Zudahs' after the booby trap incident, but it wasn't written into the main body of the exposition.

I had expected you'd toss her in there during the manned tests regardless due to her high PASS Score, to be honest.
>>
>>23066373
>>23066487
Actually, you know what?
I'm going to go against having Jane go out and pilot; she probably wants to keep as much of her ZIRCON training and abilities a secret as she can.
Instead, have Aron take her slot.

We'll do the tests using the Salamis so that we can do the Zudah tug test.

That'll let Jean and Marylin go on their salvage patrol.
>>
>>23066487
Send Jane on Salvage Patrol.
Put Pamila on Test Duty.
Get a blocking screen(make a metal BAWKS if we have to) on the prison ship to stop them from looking in on the test.
>>
>>23066590

You know, I tossed the 'Anonymous' bit in as a joke, but Damned if I don't forget Aron Handwerker exists half the time.

So, plan seems to be as follows:

Transfer Pezun technicians to the Salvaged Salamis. While this occurs, have Jean and Marylin perform a Salvage Patrol.

Aron and Pamila will do the initial Zaku - Zudah tether mobility tests, with one Solar Job and one Zudah-Zak. Once they return, you'll have Pamila control the Triple for a 'Tug' test at full burn.

Afterwards, depending on what did or did not blow up, Bright might choose to test a Zudah personally. If you can think of a good hook to convince Jane to join Bright, toss it out there.

In six hours, Lourie, Chance, and Wyatt will be rested enough to help with the tests.

Bright returned to the bridge and grabbed the phone, dialing the pilot’s lounge and ready room.

“Retersdorf,” came the reply.

“Change of plans – get Jean and Maryln Olenius to perform that patrol,” Bright told her. “I’d like to get you, Aron, and PFC Pheonix to transfer three of the Zudah’s over to the Salamis once it pulls near – one of each. Afterwards, perform the Zudah high mobility tests once the Salamis pulls out of visual range of the Magellan.”

“Can do, sir.”

Bright hung up the phone and turned to the comm. officer. “Get Christine Ask on the line – inform her she need to gather her team and prepare any equipment she needs for the Zudah tests for transfer to the salvaged Salamis,” he ordered. “Then, get our mechanics on that light cruiser to bring it along side the Siegfried for personnel and equipment transfer. Mohai,” Bright said, addressing his Executive Officer, “Watch the fort, would you? Keep things to a dull roar?”

“Heading over to watch the tests?” 2nd Lieutenant Bret asked.

“Can’t say I’ve ever captained a Salamis before,” Bright returned with a grin. “Time to fix that.”

“Aye, Have fun sir,” Brett said, giving Bright a salute. Bright returned it before walking out of the bridge.

He met Jane by the ring elevator. “Going somewhere?” she asked.

Jane shook her head. “I still have some reports to finish up with. Have fun, though.”

Bright assured her he’d try, and took the ring elevator to the top, stepping off at the Zaku Hangar to grab a normal suit.

*****

Jean and Maryln had been floating about the debris for a bit, when Maryln suggested trying around the buildings that were on the colony shell. It was a fair distance off, but still within laser comm. range, so Jean agreed.

He also damn near ran INTO another Zaku as he darted between buildings. Jean jerked hard on the yoke, forcing his Zaku II into a hard downward angle, away from the other machine.

When it didn’t follow, he turned about and radioed base. “Hatzenbuehler here, I appear to have found another Zaku unit. Going in for a closer look.”

“Copy, Lieutenant Hatzenbuehler. PFC Olenius, move to spotting position before the lieutenant proceeds with further investigation.”

“Copy, command. En route,” Maryln said.

Jean waited a minute or two before he got confirmation from Maryln that she could see him and the other unit before he moved in to investigate.

[20 & 17 - You Found MS-05 First Refined Type belonging to the 185th Airborne Paratrooper division! These units were only fielded during the One Week War and the Battle of Loum, and it’s Atomic Bazooka is intact, but has no ammunition!]

“Holy crap,” Jean said, moving his Zaku II closer to what, at first, appeared to be another Zaku II. On closer inspection, however, several variations became apparent: the forearms had canvas coverings, the armor skirt appeared to be made of a different material entirely, and the large bazooka over its shoulder was a complete give-away. “Command, Jean, I have a possible Airborne unit with atomic bazooka, repeat! Possible nuclear armament present, please advise!”

After a heated discussion, Mohai interrupted the line. “Jean, I’ve contacted both Bright and the engineer’s on the Salamis, and they confirm the Airborne units required a launch passcode to be inputted before the nuke could be armed. Do you see any blinking red lights?”

“Wait one,” Jean said, as he moved his Zaku around to take a closer look. He engaged the zoom on his gun camera, and panned over the length of the oversized bazooka before answering, “No, sir, no lights on the weapon.”

Mohai explained how to detach the weapon from the other unit, and Maryln approached to help steady the MS-05 as he did so. Jean then opened the breech, and found no warhead. He breathed a sigh of relief. “We’re clear sir, no payload – repeat, confirmed negative presence of nuclear weapons.”

“Good man,” Mohai said. “Bring him home, Lieutenant. Bring him home.”

“Aye sir, bringing him in.”

Maryln and Jean spent a few minutes pulling the refined Zaku I out of the office building its leg had been caught in, and the two brought the Airborne Zaku back to the Siegfried.

--------------Side Six Omake: 1st Entry--------------

The replies of ‘Sir’ echoed briefly in the Kommusai bay, and the Kommusai pilot and the co-pilot turned to depart through the craft’s rear hatch, Kareem departing through a small airlock that would lead him to the top of the ‘Siegfried’, where he had placed the Zaku II he would pilot for this mission.

It was the same Zaku that had been damaged in both the booby trap and the earlier combat, and Kareem was beginning to feel a little attached to the machine.

As he strapped himself into the cockpit and closed the external hatches, he acknowledged the Kommusai’s message that they were ready to launch. He felt a slight shudder travel through the Zaku II as the docking clamps beneath him let go, and the Kommusai blasted free from its hold. Kareem flipped a switch, and the magnetic clamps lost power, his Zaku’s thrusters ignited and quickly brought him even with the Kommusai.

“We ask that you remain in escort position until we’re free from the Loum Shoal Field,” the Kommusai pilot said, “Once clear, you’re free to dock with the Kommusai and take it easy until we reach Pezun.”

“Copy that,” Kareem replied, and feathered the thrusters to bring him forward of the Kommusai, and kept a sharp eye on the radar and sensors displays.

He had to move a few chunks of debris before they collided with the Kommusai, and it was while he was moving the second piece of debris that a third suddenly changed the angle of its orbit and began to accelerate towards him.

“Contact, contact, contact,” Kareem snapped into his microphone. “Unknown contact at my position, Kommusai - get out of here.”

“Roger,” was all Kareem heard before the debris shifted its angle, and then sped towards him.

Kareem pulled the yoke to force the Zaku II into a hard spin, and lashed out in a kick that took the metal shard just off center and propelled it away from the Zaku. In the same motion, he had grabbed a Cracker grenade off his shield with the left hand and his Heat Hawk with the right.

Kareem moved from visual, to radar, and infrared sensors, but did not see anything, until another section of discarded armor plating came rocketing at his position. This time, Kareem sliced through it with the heat hawk, revealing an RB-79 Ball with a painted on Shark’s smile turning and burning away as fast as it could towards another section of debris.

[Rolled 18 +5 - 2 = 21 to hit]

Kareem calmly primed the Cracker grenade. A marvel of engineering, really, the Cracker was more a multiple warhead platform than a true grenade, and launched twelve RPG’s on a timed launch circuit. Kareem eyed his opponent’s nest, estimated the time to target, and then chucked the Cracker at a lower section of what appeared to be colony wall material which was floating just above the Ball’s nest.

The grenade hit the colony wall section and deflected downward, angling behind the debris the Ball was hiding behind. It went off a second after it disappeared from Kareem’s sight. The wave of secondary explosions lit off something else, which burned the bright blue of helium three. Kareem readied his one twenty machinegun as the Zaku II swooped under the debris cluster, and found his opponent reduced to a few scraps of metal, the largest of which still bearing a hungry, sharp toothed maw.

Kareem fired the verniers, spinning his Zaku around, and rocketed off to rejoin the Kommusai.
>>
>>23068009

The remainder of the trip through the Shoal Field was uneventful, save the need to move more pieces of large debris out of their intended flight path, and afterwards Kareem docked with the Kommusai and began tooling with the Zaku to give himself something to do.

They docked with Pezun three hours later, beating the estimated time to Pezun by an hour.

well, physical die are usually closer to true random generation than programs. after all, a random number generator works on an algorithm and is usually directly influenced by the recent numbers generated... one of the more random ones I've encountered went so far as to include over 100 variables. took a couple of minutes to generate, but hey. those are the breaks...

but back to the main question, i don't mind. whichever is easier for you. after all, you could use the app and say you rolled physically or vice versa, Hell, you could even not roll and just decide upon the number via personal choice...
>>
>>23068410
Pah - Choosing numbers and claiming their random. Where's the fun in that? I'm as much a player here as anyone else, really. I'm just describing the events as best I can.

Also: Why do I have 9 d10's? Seriously? 10 d10's I could understand, but NINE? And only 3 d20's, and I'm not using the crystalline die - need more room than what's in front of the keyboard to roll in for accurate results on those.

So - black d20 with silver numbers? Or blue d20 with white numbers? Choose wisely....

Bright had been a bit unnerved when Jean’s discovery of a nuclear capable Airborne unit was patched through to him from the Siegfried. He, along with everyone present, breathed a sigh of relief once it was confirmed there were no nuclear weapons present on the unit.

Although it gave him an idea.

>Forward idea of ‘Post-Battle of Loum Nuclear Armament Disposal’ to Dozle Zabi as a cover story for how you came to be here to intercept the POW’s ?
>[ ] Yes
>[ ] No

In the mean time, Bright had some Zudah’s to test. “One that Airborne Oh Five is stowed on the Siegfried, have Jean and Maryln bring the Zaku’s to the Salamis,” Bright ordered the man operating the comm.s.

He relayed the message, and soon enough, the two Zakus had alighted on the top of the prow, in full view of the bridge. Bright ordered the Salamis to half speed, and the repaired ship brought itself about and away from the ‘Siegfried’ and further into the broken shell of the colony.

“Sensors, report,” Bright ordered.

“Stable returns out to six hundred and fifty meters, sir. No major debris detected in flight path. Siegfried at two-five-oh and falling astern.”

“Bring us to five hundred meters from the Siegfried, then full stop. We’ll begin tests there,” Bright said.

“Aye, sir.”

At five hundred meters out, the Salamis slowed to a halt, facing a section of the colony wall that once held the myriad quartz paned windows that let light into the colony. Few were left intact, leaving jagged daggers glinting in the wan light that penetrated this far into the debris field.

Other than the minor hazard such sharp objects would pose to a mobile suit, Bright saw no immediate danger. He had the sensor man watch the returns like a hawk for a full five minutes, with no errant results. This section was apparently stable.

'Post-Battle of Loum Nuclear Armament Disposal’ is Clearly why we were here. maybe the mad doctor could play with the atomic bazooka and make it fire something a bit less 'Antarctic Treaty Breaking' and more in line with the absurd Zudah systems

start with the Zaku-Zudah tether tests. begin with the upgraded Zudah, then the ZuZak, finishing off with the Triple Z tug test.

And let's get the triple down. Might as well get the ticking bomb done with first. Preemptively Rollinto hopefully allow for a better, less hilarious failure roll when the time comes...
>>
>>23069466
This Atomic Bazooka should be roughly the same as the GP-02's. That places it at about two and a half times the diameter of a standard bazooka.

With the materials you have on hand (scrap metal, armor plates, Helium-3) the only thing I can think of you could get Christine to put together for it with what you have on hand would be a hell of an MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator).

If you were in atmosphere, you could make a killer Fuel-Air Bomb Delivery System out of it.

The Atomic Bazooka can be fired with any Zeonic Unit that has an Armament Code Device. At the moment, only the MS-05 Airborne can send a fire code to the weapon.

Well. Averages out to 39.5 and 57.4. Adding in Aron's +5 and Pamila's +8, that gives us 44 and 65. Not too bad, all things concidered.

Though that 10 means Aron Visor-Planted the Zudah-Zak into debris for sure. The 13 doesn't bode well for Pam either.

In this case, yes. During combat, I typically use each set of rolls for each attack phase. For this instance, since you're in a reletively stable area and they're taking things slow for testing purposes, (ie, it's not pressing), the average works best. Lowest rolls say 'something bad happened', but that's science. The higher rolls mitigated the overall damages to: nothing too terrible is going to happen.

Ah. So it CAN get worse the more rolls we make.

“Alright then, Corporal Retersdorf and PFC Handwerker,” Bright said, turning to the pilots assembled on the bridge. “Get out there and make me proud.”

Ezra held up a hand. “Sir? If I may?” When Bright nodded she continued, “I think I need to sit this one out, sir. I am feeling ill enough that my arms are shaking.”

Bright nodded. “Probably backwash from the rifle issue earlier. Does anyone volunteer to take Ezra’s place?”

Pamila immediately stepped forward. “I’ll go, sir.”

“Very well. PFC Handwerker, PFC Pheonix, report to the Zakus for the Zudah Testing.”

The two selected pilots saluted sharply, and headed towards the forward airlock.

As Aron suited up, he asked ‘Huh, wonder what’s up with Ez. She’s usually down for these sort of things.”

“I’m not sure. I could tell she was genuinely distressed, but to the cause?” Pamila said with a small shrug.

They checked each other’s suits, to ensure the seals were properly secured, and then cycled the airlock. They aimed their zip-guns, small pistol sized magnetic grapples with battery powered wenches in the grip, at their Zaku’s, and fired. Soon, they were situating themselves with the control rigs put in place by the Pezun techs.

The tether was relatively simple, several securing lines similar to what was used to tow the salvaged Salamis cruiser behind the ‘Siegfried’, along with a central data cable leading to the Zudah’s cockpit. The Zaku would trail slightly behind the Zudah, and the inputs made with the controls were set to effect both suits at the same time. A large button was appended to the Zaku’s main control console, which would cut the delay circuit keeping both suits motions in tandem, and allow the Zaku to immediately sever the tether and separate from the Zudah at speed.
>>
>>23071552

Satisfied they had the controls down, the Pezun techs returned to the airlock before the pilots engaged the thrusters and went on their way.

“Aron, we’d like you to take the Zudah-Zak through that office complex fifty meters away,” Christine instructed over the comm., “See if you can navigate the streets – but remember your tether! The gun camera should show you both the view from that Zudah’s mono-eye camera.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Aron said, and rocketed off towards the complex at a quarter speed. Christine continued with Pamila, saying “We’d like for you to head towards the girders that aligned the windows – the Solar Job can make tighter turns than your Zaku, so head through an open section, turn, and then come back. Do that say, ten times, and we’ll move on from there.”

“Copy,” Pamila said.

[Roll average: 39.5 and 57.4]

The grid pattern tests were pretty rudimentary, and soon Aron was doing his best to fight boredom. ‘Gotta keep sharp,’ he said to himself, ‘Don’t want to bite it out here, doing tests of all things.’

This was the point he hit the flagpole with his Zaku. The impact was negligible, but knocked his Zaku off course and towards the side of an office building. So, naturally, Aron corrected.

And then he remembered the Zudah was slaved to his input. And it was on a delay.

The Zaku slammed into the building, tearing through nuclear baked concrete like wet tissue paper. The tether snapped taut, and the Zaku began pulling to the left, ripping through even more concrete. About the time Aron realized he was in head deep on the twelfth floor, the Zudah and the Zaku both made his inputted corrections.

The Zaku blasted backwards, freeing itself from the building.
>>
>>23071561

The Zudah blasted backwards, and smashed into the communications tower for an old television station on the street level.

There was a small flash of light, and the controls shut down.

Sitting in the dark, Aron could feel the Zaku smash into another building. “Great. Just frigging wonderful,” he groused, and began fiddling with the reset override commands.

Twenty minutes later, the Zaku cam beck online, and he had to radio the Salamis to send a ball out to help him disentangle the control wires from the radio broadcasting tower the Zudah had crashed into.

Meanwhile, Pamila was doing some impressive loop-de-loops in-between the quartz plate braces. “You were right about the turns,” she radioed back to Christine, “They’re very tight!”

“Just don’t stress the cabling too much,” Christine said.

The Zudah whipped around another exposed girder, and Pamila juked the yoke, making an tight S turn before heading back through another hole in the Quartz glass.

On the large arc of the S turn, the control cable snapped. Pamila blinked as all the cameras in the Zaku went white with static for a long, terrible moment. Then, they returned, and Pamila forced the more responsive Zaku to pull back against the tether cabling, in a vain attempt to keep the Zudah from smashing into the glass.

The Zuda went through it anyway, it’s greater thrust proving superior to the Zaku’s, and sharp shards of clear crystal quartz scattered in every direction imaginable. Pamila threw a hand up to help protect the Mono-eye, wrapped a length of tether cable in the other hand, and flew to catch up to the Zudah before it could run into anything more dangerous than it already had.

Like the Salamis.
>>
Rolled 89

>>23071571

Pamila grabbed the tether cable and aimed for an exposed girder. She zipped past it, forcing the cables to run along it, sparking off into the void as friction pulled metal from metal. She then slammed her Zaku’s feet into the sidewall and pulled hard, throwing the Zaku’s strength, leverage, and thrusters into it.

It was a very long ten seconds, but eventually, the automatic failsafe kicked in, and the Zudah’s thrusters came to a stop, and the machine re-oriented itself before being pulled violently backwards. Seeing the change in direction, Pamila shot off the side of the colony, and hit the Zudah from behind with a massive Zaku bear hug. The impact rattled her brain a little, but it kept the Zudah from crashing into the exposed girders.

She shook herself, winced at the pain in the back of her neck, and radioed in her position and status. After receiving authorization to return to the ship, she gladly did so.

After docking, Kareem and the Kommusai’s pilot handed their sealed SD cards to the commanding officer of Pezun, Colonel Lucius Hasfjord. The Colonel offered the services of Pezun to refuel and repair their craft and Kareem’s Zaku II.

Lucius, chosen to lead Pezun because he had the patience to deal with both unruly scientists and an EFF Fleet at Hatte which was prone to acts of bravado, took one look at the decrypted contents of the SD cards and immediately send them to the Army of the Archduchy of Zeon Space Attack Fleet Headquarters on Solomon via laser comm. while giving verbal orders to send Pezun’s two Pazok class transports, escorted by the Papua which had just returned from Solomon, to the Siegfried’s location post haste.

Dozle Zabi was spending quality time with his daughter, Minerva, when the news arrived.

“Who Is The Most Adorable Child On This Asteroid?” Dozle asked, wiggling his giant finger in Mineva’s tiny grasp. “Oh Yes You Are, Yes, It’s You!” He cooed as Mineva laughed her little baby giggles at how silly daddy was.

It was at this point that an aide crashed the door open, gasping for breath, and holding an envelope. Said aide looked up form his panting to see three Zabi’s looking at him as if he were the strangest thing on Solomon. Presently, Mineva giggled again.

“This Had Best Be Important, To Come Bursting Into My Private Chambers Like This!” Dozle stated as he handed Mineva to his lovely wife, Zena. She took the child and rocked her gently, as Mineva reached up and patted Zena’s face, still giggling.

The other man continued to hold the enveloped before himself like a shield, hoping it would deflect some of the Lord Zabi’s wrath. “Top priority message from Pezun, sir – routed here from Major Noah,” he managed between breaths.

Dozle grabbed the aide by the wrist and hauled him out of his chambers and into his personal office. He let the fellow go as he took the envelope, and motioned for the obviously exhausted aide to take a seat. The man did so, and Dozle sat behind his computer and opened the envelope, inserting the SD card into the card reader.

There was a long moment in which Dozle perused the documentation, eyed the schematics, and finally said, “Dear God, I Might Need To Promote Him To Admiral After All!”

He then hit a few more buttons, and patched a laser communication through to the Falmel. “Char! I Need You To Stop What You’re Doing, Char! Your Boy Bright Has Done It Again!”

Char seemed confused, although it was a bit hard to tell, what with that mask on. “Uh… Bright did what, exactly?”

Dozle forwarded the relevant documents and waited for Char to read them. He did, and gave out a low whistle once finished. “That man,” Char said, slowly shaking his head in disbelief, “Was born with the Devil’s own luck. We’re on the outskirts of Side Six space at the moment; do you want me to hold position, sir?”

“Yes. I Will Contact The Riah Republic And Ask If They Would Like Our Assistance In Rooting Out This EFF Facility,” Dozle said, nodding. “If They Require Our Assistance, Then Your Team Is In A Perfect Position, With Personnel Ready To Facilitate That Request.”

“Understood, the Falmel will hold position relative to Side Six until further orders.”

“Good!” Said Dozle, and he hung up on Char.

could we not just make a Musai that is twice as large as the normal Final Type Musai?

>>

I'm sure there are a lot of options if we want to look into the possibility of "augmenting" it with bits and pieces from Loum. However, we've already got a lot on our plate. We should ask the Pezun techs how viable this plan is.

Fortunately, as pointed out back when we were fixing up the Salamis and Magellan, many Federation parts should be compatible with our own systems.
