Woo, sorry about the delay anon. Got pulled in to do some damage control in the office for an extra three hours. Sure do love my job! Let's run some goddam tanks.

archive here, along with strikers '89:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Strike%20Witches%201989

Aaaaand just like ghost, I'm in the IRC.

“I fuckin' hate it when it's this quiet, sir. I always manage to spill shit on myself.” Nicky says, not looking away from his scopes. A cracker in one hand and a package of Jalapeno and Cheese spread in the other, he's doing his best to eat while manning his gun. It's not going well for him. Beside you, Michael's eyes are fixated on a notebook, pen wiggling furiously. His MRE had been sumarily devoured, as slinging around 40 plus pound tank shells takes it out of a man.

“Shut it, Nicky. At least you got Jalapeno and Cheese. I got fuckin' charms and even friggin' more peanut butter spread.” You reply. The charms, of course, had been flung out of your hatch at the sight of them and undoubtedly scooped up by some kid, looking for a treat. Charms were bad luck as far as you were concerned, no matter where they were.

It'd been about eight hours since your company lopped off the head of an Iraqi republican guard's armored Battalion in Khafji, on the Saudi Araiban coast. Unfortunately, moving as fast as you did put you a few hundred kilometers ahead of the main body of the NATO push into Iraq, leaving you to wait until everyone (see, the Royal Saudi Land Forces) to catch up before moving on.

After having smashed this Iraqi push on Saudi territory, the word came down the wire to push into Kuwait, the border being a scant twenty kilometers away. Better yet, twenty kilometers of enemy held territory. Across the border, you'd been told, your objective would be a an Oceanside resort, fifteen kilometers away as the crow flies.
>>
>>23034426

2/3 (bah! Misjudged.)

As of right now, though, you sit in your tank, studying very thin, non informative intelligence briefs. Most of it was all the same, information on the Iraqi army that you've been studying for almost the past month, their fighting doctrine and equipment. Most of the pertinent information, cold numbers, you're finding out to be quite wrong.

“The fuck, sir. Why are we going after a resort?” Nicky breaks the relative silence. “I mean, I know that we're special forces and whatnot now, but do we just do one combat action and then we're off the hook for a while?”

“Not quite, Nick. Khiran resort is only a hundred and ten kilometers away from Kuwait city. Plus it's a halfway decent area for boats to get in with supplies if we need them to, there are a lot of little docks we could use. Plus, this is a good start point if we need to slide over into Al Wafra to cut off any Iraqi retreat. Don't forget, currently we're the northernmost NATO unit in Saudi Arabia. Other than the zoomie and squid flyboys, that is.”

He takes another bite of his cracker, muttering that he liked his idea better.

A knock at your hatch prompts you to look out of one of your view ports. Anderson waves at you before leaning back so as not to be hit with the hatch door.

“Heya sir. Just got off the horn with Predator actual, wanted me to hand you these. Dunno why he didn't just get up with you to begin with, but the man is busy fighting a war, pretty much alone. Tac-net freqs, callsigns, and our general orders. He wanted me to also tell you, and I quote, to 'remember that we aren't here to fuck up anyone's livelihood, but if someone comes at you lookin' for a fight, you fuckin' kick his ass.' Far as I can figure, we've already been doing a hell of a job of doing just that.”
>>
>>23034438

Anderson shrugs, handing you a folded piece of notebook paper. On it are, just as Anderson said, frequencies and callsigns, along with a few boredom doodles. He brass checks his rifle before looking up sharply. He gazes at the horizon for a moment before looking back to you.

You shift an eyebrow at the man who commands your infantry element.

“You uh, you good LT? Your boys all squared away, need anything? Also watch your nine. Charm dump.”

“Heh, thanks for the heads up. Yeah, we're good. Thought I heard something a few blocks over. Must be just losing my mind, sir. Oh, by the way, I think top is gonna pop over and talk to you. She mentioned something about needing to see you.”

He turns and walks down the rear of your tank, catching a blast of exhaust fume from Booze Hound's turbine engine. Jumping off, he disappears into the building where his men are all set up, watching over your back.

Of your three other vehicles, only one is operational right now. You're on a 50% watch, two tanks up, two tanks down, until the order to move comes. Or until you get jumped by bloc forces. Whichever happens first, really. Your witches are at two up, three down, with Rockfield and Seigle on watch. Rosalez, Patterson, and Ooishi are asleep on the ground floor of a schwarma restaurant, all huddled under your poncho liner. Originally, you protested, but Patterson's puppy eyes are just like Jessica's and you had to give in. Damned shame how that always works.

Mere minutes later, just as LT. Anderson said, Master Sargent Rockfield finds her way over to your vehicle.

“Hey captain, a minute?”

Not seeing it. Besides the fact that Witches have been around since the beginning of history, and Mohammed went on record that Witches are part of Allah's plan and above regular people but below prophets in the scheme of things, there's not much religious reason to get mad at them.
And then there's the shields that can stop most things short of a 120mm tank shell.

“No problemo, sarn't. What's up?”

“Well, we don't really have the time to beat around the bush, so I'll just be blunt. I'm really worried for Patterson. This is the first time she's seen fighting, like, real fighting. Thing she didn't tell you is that she was in Alaska, but never saw any of that before getting shunted here. It may be an issue.”

You stop to think for a moment. Shit, how old had Mary Patterson said she was? Fifteen? Maybe, that sounded about right.

“Top, shouldn't she still be in the Academy?”

“Uh, should. The war pushed them to speed up lessons. But she says she was already pretty far into the curriculum and speeding it up just got her out faster.”

“So she's our baby.”

“....um. Sure. If you want to put it like that.”

Great. So now on top of a war you should be fighting on a different front, you've got a rookie to watch out for.

“Super. Just keep an eye on her, top. Let me know if we need to get her out of here.”

“Yessir.” She replies, turning to leave.

You slide back down the turret and into your seat. Michael, without looking up, tears a piece of paper off from his notebook and hands it to you. On it, specific routes and your time of departure, fifteen minutes from now.

“Predator's S-2 called. Wanted to make sure you saw this.” He says, still scribbling away on whatever he was writing before.

Figuring for the best, you decide to rouse everyone. You bring your two sleeping tanks on line before passing the radio handset to Michael. He silently clips it to his armor before setting back to writing. Your curiosity bounds as to what he's writing, but there's more important things to handle right now.

Your first order of business is to wake up your witches. One one hand, this is a great opportunity for a prank. On the other, you're not quite sure if there's time to do so. Deciding to err with caution and practicality, you decide to just kick in the door and play a crude rendition of reveille. Ooishi sits bolt upright in the center of the tangle of witches, bringing most of the poncho liner with her, a sixty year old ka-bar knife in her hands. Rosalez, not to be outdone, rolls to the side of her makeshift bed, and levels her baretta at you. Patterson rolls over and groans, muttering about how it's too early.

“A ka-bar, a Baretta, and a dreaming witch. I don't think I've ever been more threatened in my life. Someone wake up Mary, we're moving in ten mikes. And gimme my damn poncho liner back! We're in a desert, you don't need a blanket!” You say, reaching out to grab the nylon blanket.

“You know, captain, I don't know why you still think it's yours. I use it more than you!” Ooishi protests, holding the liner close. “I'm keeping it! Get your own!”

You sigh, having been through this conversation several times, each time with someone different. On one hand, maybe you'll be able to get a new one in a different color now. You'd need to talk to a supply Sargent for that, though.
>>
>>23036398

2/2

Next order of business is finding Lieutenant Anderson and having his boys get ready. It's more than easy enough, himself and his eleven troopers milling about near their vehicles. Meaney and Nicky have started talking about the .50 on your tank, and how it never seems to see much use. The defense, of course, being that a 120mm cannon does just as much damage as a fifty would.

A quick knock on your hatch has Anderson standing on your vehicle, once again.

“Hey, sir. We whipped up a little present for your boys. Came up with the supply vehicles.”

He hands down three shortened shotguns and an XM4 carbine.

“Don't get me wrong, sir. I know tanks are a shitpile harder to kill than we are, but if anything goes wrong...well, it wouldn't look too good on my record if I've got a dead company commander on my record.”

You inspect one of the shotguns, and after finding it to your liking, you stash it behind your seat.

“Thanks LT. Get comfy somewhere, be about an hour and ahlf, give or take before we get where we're headed.”

The man nods before pushing your hatch towards you. “Luck, sir.”

“Skill, LT.”

You pull your hatch shut, sealing the filtration system. Immediately, the AC kicks on, bringing the vehicle to a comfortable 75.

“Alright Hans, let's go. Straight up to the border.”

Through your viewports, you see your two recon witches, Ooishi and Seigel, peel out, putting as much distance between them and your main column as safely possible. Leaving the city of Khafji behind you in a storm of dust, you can't help but wonder just how stealthy one can be.

The drive up is, to put it simply, incredibly boring. Intel had reported that the eastern Iraqi push, the one you opposed directly, would leave behind a rearguard somewhere near the border station, but you haven't found one yet, nor have your recon elements. While tense, it's also a quiet drive up. Passing the Kuwait-Saudi border station and finding it in ruin, you can't help but shake your head. Bullets have pockmarked the once regal building, and cannon fire have torn the walls apart.

Once across the border, Seigel's voice breaks over the tac net.

“Sir, Iraqi recon elements up ahead of us. Only, they don't look like Iraqi units. Two tanks, unknown make and model. Definitely not friendly though, both of them are wearing bloc flags. They're not anything we've ever seen, honestly. Interrogative, what exactly would you like us to do?”

>well?
>>
>>23037001

Hmm, new models of tanks?

I say we fan out and take them down anyways but try to aim for a mobility or mission kill.

Theres gonna be a bunch of folks who'll want to pick these things over.

Also drop off our green berets first before we engage. No sense in carrying them into a tank fight.

Observe and report, keep a bead on them until we can get in position for the whole unit to open up. More details on what exactly they look like.
>>
>>23037001

“Alright, let's keep it simple. Keep your eyes on them, let me know if they do something bonkers. Can you describe them?” You ask, not wanting to let the concern creep into your voice. The last time you were faced with something you've never seen before, it was the Bitch, and you had to drop a lot of ordinance on that sumbitch to kill it.

“I could, sir. Hard to compare it to something. Looks kinda like a T-80 from the front, only smaller. Lower profile, a little wider. Gun looks about the same, and it's covered in that ERA shit as far as I can see. Skirts cover most of the wheels. Really boxy ass end of the turret, front bit is razor sharp. Hard angles. If I'm being honest, sir, I don't think this is something we want to get in a fight with.” She replies, whispering now. “Sushi's not getting anything on her IR scope, and I can't hear a thing out of them. No engine noises, no crew chatter, nothing. They're there, though, sir. And from the looks of it, they've been in the shit for a while. They were probably part of what was pushing Khafji.”

You tap your finger against your chin, trying to think of a way to get past them without invoking a fight. It's not that you don't think you'd kick their ass, it's that you trust your recon elements. If not Seigel, than Ooishi. Even though she's a blanket thief.

You flick the radio over to the company net.

“I'm open to suggestions, people.” No doubt they were listening in anyway.

Anderson is the first to respond. “Doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard of, sir. Some T-80 variant, maybe? I'm not seeing a route around them, though, unless you wanna skirt the coast. Any Iraqi gunboats out there would have our number for sure. Either way, if you decide to get in a fight, do us a solid and let us bail off your vehicles beforehand. Don't wanna get turned into paint.”

Rockfield breaks next. “Didn't you see something like this in Germany, sir? Some new thing that nobody had ever seen? That line breaker thing? Why don't we just treat it like that and dump air on their heads?”

Your reply is double quick to Rockfield's suggestion. “Because we don't know if we have air. I think the zoomies are busy with keeping Iraqi air down to a minimum.”

“Can't we at least try, sir?”

I'm throwing my vote in with Black Eagle, and seeing as its not got IR dazzlers that we can tell its not in any position to start fighting real quick, unless its got a good crew.

Good news is its hull is still a piece of shit, just punch it in the face with a kinetic perpetrator through the lower glacis and its done for

>[] “I don't see why not. If the air force opens up something for us to use, we'll go at 'em.”

“Yeah, I'll get on the horn with the Air Force right now. Gimme a minute.”

Your vehicles roll to a halt just outside of a tiny hamlet while you switch over to your division radio frequency. Much to your surprise, General Garrison himself answers your calls.

“Predator actual. Send your traffic, Chaos actual. Over.”

“Roger, uh, my recon elements are reporting a pair of bloc tanks that we've never seen before and advising we don't go in and mix it up with them. Interrogative, any chance the zoomies want to come drop some hate on these assholes for us? Over.”

“Chaos actual, wait one.”

You take a quick swig of water from the bottle wedged between computer consoles before Garrison comes back over the net.

“Chaos actual, predator actual. They've got a pair of Eagles that are milling around, callsign 'basher.' How copy, over?”

“Solid. Out.”

You flip your net over once more, making contact with the air force drivers. They're about twenty miles out, and close the gap over your targets double quick.

“Alright Basher, I'm handing you over to raven, Chaos FAC. Move some mud for us, wouldja boys?” You say over the radio.

Thifty five thousand feet up, basher takes a deep breath of oxygen from his mask. “You got it, Chaos. Out.”

Seigel has obviously done this more than once, and expertly vectors in the eagle's attack run. They approach from the east, along the coast, before pickling off their bombs and peeling back south. The munitions cut through the Kuwaiti air, screaming towards their targets.

From inside your vehicle, you're able to hear the muffled crumps of the detonations, knowing that they were some distance off. Seigel contacts you immediately afterwards.

“There's something we missed, sir. These things fired up and moved before those shots connected. Killed a shitpile of glass, but that's about it. They're headed straight towards us, we're coming straight back to you. Sushi, pack it up. I don't care! Pack it up! We're leaving!”

Your orders are carried out quickly and effectively, Mister Fister leading the other three vehicles of your company out to the left, with your three non-recon witches forming up on either side of you. Rosalez takes a knee, her Ma Deuce pointed down the line exactly where your cannon is. Patterson stands above her, 50mm gun at the ready.

“Sir, these things don't have normal guns either! They're firing at us but we can't hear a damned thing! Sushi, c'mon! Stop dawdling!” Seigel says, shouting over the radio.

“Just make it back to the line, Seigel. The penetrators look after our own.” You reply, reassuring her...you hope.

What feels like hours later, Seigel races through your lines, a very worn out looking Ooishi behind her.

“Captain, I got something on the scope. Real fuzzy though, I can't see exactly what it is Say they're about a klik out. There's a pair of 'em though, reason enough to believe that our new friends are here.” Norton, over in Mister Fister says.

I don't like the sound of this. First they dodge an air-strike, and now they're shooting something invisible--I'm assuming masers because they're invisible.

They either have contact with a radar unit, or they have extremely sophisticated electronic warfare gear. Either way, sitting still and hoping they won't see us is not a viable option.

Switch to non-IR optics and hit them now or bug out. Because if we sit tight, our ass is cooked.

“Hit 'em! Fuckin' hit 'em!” you shout into the radio. Booze Hound roars it's mighty challenge, sending a silver bullet penetrator right at the targets. Your other six available guns do the same, kicking up a torrent of dust and sand from the desert floor. After catching their breaths, Ooishi and Seigel join in as well, bringing almost the full destructive power of your company to bear.

The torrent of weapons fire is heavy indeed, two of your tanks firing while the other half of your company is reloading. You watch the witches enhanced rounds sail into the could, knowing that they're doing their own damage.

You allow Nicky to fire six times, having full confidence that your gunner was scoring hits. Your other tanks follow suit, until you manage to call a ceasefire on the radio. Everyone begins checking their weapons, Michael wiping several beads of sweat from his forehead. Rockfield, reloading her SAW's box magazine, immediately looks up.

“Oh. Oh shit.” She mutters.

Looking up, and watching the last of the dust settle, you're able to see what's got her so concerned. A faint shimmer of blue shielding covering both the tanks shines through the night, leaving no mistake in your mind at all who the crew of these vehicles were.

So that must mean that they have a magic focus installed inside the tank, and at least 1 Witch to act as the Shield Operator.

The only thing I can think of is to get the Witches onto our tanks, 2 Witches to a tank (1 to concentrate on shields, the other to concentrate on magically enhancing our 120mm cannon), or have the Witches go out and around and try to hit the enemy witch tanks from behind and the sides while we hit them from the front, to force the tanks to evenly distribute their shields and hope that we can wear them down faster.

I get the feeling that the shielding might not be omnidirectional.

Remember that only Viper had the ability to have two shields at once.

Even if they have multiple witches throwing up shields, I don't think they can handle cluster munitions if they're dropped everywhere.

Otherwise spreading out and engaging from all directions would be how to do it. We'll eventually catch them from a direction without a shield though we'll definitely lose people.

They were pretty close behind Ooishi and Seigel, so they're fairly fast.
>>
>>23040545
You do realize, even if we can outrun them, leaving them in our rear presents a whole host of different problems for us.
>>
Guys. Guys. GUYS. We're overthinking this.

What's /tg/'s military solution to everything? Throw A-10s at it. This will actually work in this situation. They can't block air support and tanks at the same time. They'll have to chose one or the other, and that will be the death of them.

Just get on the horn and start screaming for every mud mover in the theatre. This enemy calls for that kind of response.

This must be what it felt like being an Allied tank crew when the Tigers first entered the field.

Those two tanks just shrugged off the combined firepower of 7 Abrams and 5 Witches. I don't want to see what those Witch Tank guns can do if they're allowed to switch from shields to gun enhancement.
