They came, as the elders had said they would.
They came from the sky upon their great metal chariots, back to the lands of men.
The Gods stepped forth atop their sacred pyramids, to meet their loyal servants, your people, the proud Aztecs.
The Chieftain offered himself in ritual combat, as was the way of things. They honoured him with a warrior's death.
The return of the Gods means only one thing to your people, they come for their tribute, and for the grand proving.
The tribute, a tax paid in lives that the Gods might have their chosen prey for their hunts in the sky.
And the proving, the contest of the greatest warriors of your tribe that they might ascend and join the Gods in their hunt.
You are Atl, and you are one such warrior.
The proving grounds lie before you, the sands red with blood.
You see the first among the Gods, he who has returned each time, watching from atop the steps of the pyramid.
You grip your spears tightly in each hand.
"The road to Godhood is paved with the blood of your friends, my son." says your father beside you.
An old man, once a warrior, now bent with age and past the time of glory, you pity and love him equally.
>What do you do?

You walk out on to the sands, the blood soaked in to the ground is warm beneath your bare feet, and the fierce wind sweeps your hair to the side.
Cotlatl, your closest friend for years approaches you.
"Brother, the Gods decree that we fight each other as proof of our worthiness. I can think of no spear more worthy to pierce my heart than yours, and I would be proud to offer you a warrior's death."

You step back from each other and assume fighting stance, your muscles relaxing in to the familiar way of the moment before battle.
You know Cotlatl to be a supremely skilled fighter with cudgel and axe. This fight will be won with blood and sweat or not at all.

So, to 'please' the Gods, the Aztecs had to sacrifice their Chieftain, sacrifice a lot of people to get Xenos, have some if their best warriors kill each other, then fight the aforementioned Xenos, which can't have gone well for the warriors?

The axe blade passes you by, so close that you can see the carving you inscribed on the blade the day you gave it to him as the gift that sealed your friendship.
You turn and use your momentum to lash out again with your spear.
Grunting with the pain of hefting his injured arm, Cotlatl parries your blow with a strike of his own, and your spear haft splinters before the brute force of the impact.

But as it turned out, fate dictated that you would be a warrior, and the life of a young warrior is an uncertain thing. You both kept your feelings hidden knowing that you could die any day without warning.
But the knowledge that you leave tomorrow, without doubt, gives you both courage.
You leave the party with Citlali, and to the cheers of the tribe, take her to your tent.

I think episode two should be a home-town rap-up, and then our first hunt. It could be hunting humans on the other side of the planet, hunting on another planet, but I don't think we should dive right into hunting Xenomorphs.
Xenomorphs should be episode 3 or something.
