> Sorry for the morbid delay folks. But game design work and the plague that followed definitely punched a hole in our regular schedule ! So I'll be spending most of tonight catching everyone up to speed.

=========

In the spring of 657, a terrorist act perpetrated by a rogue millitary group called "The Black Deserters" opened one of the biggest Vinculum rifts ever recorded in Terra. The result ? Over 10,000 Ragnyllian KIAs have materialized in the distant nation of Iffram. However due to the violent state of the country, only about 6000 truly survived in the less than hospitable safety of their surroundings.

A fierce debate had sprung in the Ragnyllian council. What had started as a a secret meeting to deliberate over the 6000 "reincarnated" soldiers was soon found out by Aeoni inquisitors and envoys from their red sects.

What began as a simple mission to migrate these souls back to their homeland became a divisive debate that would force Aeoni intervention back again. For better or for worse however, this gave rise to a coalition of other sects within Aeon to criticise whether the Aeoni had the right to determine if these soldiers could walk the mortal plane or not- while some argued that their return was the work of Alexander himself.

Meanwhile, Queen Nenelly Arthur, in a bid to find a responsible party for the destruction of a Scholomance and the undead holocaust currently plagueing her kingdom is pushing for a response from Ragnyll on whether the Hellghast Unit be deemed friend or foe....
>>
In the umber halls of the Ashleaf HQ, Officers of Ragnyll 1, gather to discuss our next move. A raiding team to find the Black Deserters on a compromised meeting point was long abandoned. Leaving those at the newly liberated base under the mercy of the monster elements, the ensuing winters, and what may finally be an execution force from the local Kingdom once they are convinced that the former will not work.

Ragnylls 2 and 3 are showing signs of life, however all outposts are in sheer need of supplies otherworldy or not. . . ..

>Canon Rp is now open
> General discussion is welcome since next game will be a minute to setup.

It was a strange thing to see the Corporal sitting at a desk. Stanger still, since the desk was a weapons crate. Or perhaps that was more normal? Scratching at the stitches near his ear, Atramente shook off his wandering mindset and focused on the boy's meeting with a particular elementalist. Even the stone-lipped bodyguard couldn't help but chuckle. The boy had pulled pranks like this in his youth, and it was interesting to see him on the other side of an exploding toilet.

"So... Adviser. It seems that there are no military records to be found that match your description. So regardless of who you were before, you're a private under my command now. And since you refuse to give your name... Well, I guess I'll have to give you the only job I can trust you for while we're waiting around here. And since you managed to ruin a perfectly good toilet with your juvenile revenge - toilets, that I may mention, are currently at a premium - it will be up to you to maintain the condition of whatever toilets do remain. And of course, since you have proven that we can not trust you with the responsibility of using a toilet correctly, if you want to use the crapper you'd best dig yourself a hole. One outside the city limits, if you please."

The Corporal gives the caster a bemused stare. "Just be glad I'm not kicking you out for misuse of military property - even small amounts of ibonyte are probably still worth more than even my salary. And you can quit if you'd like - but you're not going to be leaving this place on a military transport, I'll tell you that much. So if you'd like to tempt the elements, well..." The young man beckons to the snow-covered track just outside the makeshift hangar's door. "The roads are open for you."
>>
>>23004403
Sir, It appears that some of us have picked up strange abilities from our time in Hel. Either that it it's because we decided to combat the giant bugs by actually beating them down with our bare hands and eating them to teach them a lesson. In any case, I'd like to see if there are more of us with these strange new abilities present in the ranks.

I will also go collect enemy weaponry, if that's alright. Those spears look awfully interesting to use, not to mention those giant hammers.
>>
>>23004403
A young centaur child, about the size of a small pony, approaches the self-styled HQ, knocking on the door a few times. "H-hello? Is, is anyone here? We have a little thank you present from some of the villagers. It would mean a lot of you'd take it...sirs and madams." He'd wait to see if someone would answer the door, hooves digging into the ground.
>>
A private note to Pvt. Ralin:

This is your official warning regarding the friendly fire incident reported by Pvt. Laurent during the recent battle. I understand the relative inexperience you must have with a physical weapon considering the recent circumstances of your revival. However command is very hard on me to punish friendly fire incidents. Please endeavor to avoid such incidents in the future, as the powers that be are watching. I would hate to have to put someone else on probation regarding explosives.

- Cpl. Clyde

>>23004686

Upon penning the last of his memos, the Corporal is surprised by the knock and the plaintive voice at the door. Upon glancing around the building and seeing the Major and Captain were both away, he moved to and opened the door. "Uh, hi there. I can take the gift for the Major if you'd like. He's not here at the moment, I'm afraid."
>>
>>23004686
The elementalist answers the door.

"Hello, what's this then?"
>>
>>23004847

"Adviser, you're still here? Did I forget to dismiss you? Hrm."
>>
>>23004844
"Hum w-we wanted to give your our thanks for saving the village and our parents. So me and my friends scrounged up a bit of money to give you this..."

The little centaur lifts a basket filled with what appears to be different kinds of alcohol, honey-based sweets and other little baubles, most of the large basket,s content edible in some way. "We don,t know if the humans from outside drink other things, so we added things that each race can drink here...P-please enjoy..." he hands it over and with a little bow, gallops away to join a group of small children further back.
>>
>>23004950

"Aw, well ain't that sweet? Here, Adviser. You want somethin'? Just promise me next time you won't blow up a toilet if you're upset."
>>
" Spears " counted a logistics officer " up to my neck, and laid up against my bedrolls in Spears ! "

" What do you suppose we could do with these ?"
" Aint it simple ? They're well made, have good reach and designed to fight an enemy that still plagues us- why not have our vanguards learn to use 'em ? And even then I hear they're already good with the stuff.. "

" Ideal... our millitary wasn't exactly well suited for... monster hunting "

" Alright, well it's settled we're taking the lot of these to the workshop and adjusting them then, no clue when this many people and this many spears will come in handy one day..."

> Vanguard Lancer Training under construction !
>>
>>23005123
Hot damn that's a sight for sore eyes. With just enough reach these babies will do the trick. Get ourselves a little Aeon feeling with those spears right boys? Nevertheless, I like it. Alright boys, keep on pilling them till the officer tell's us they have enough to build a house.
>>
>>23004970
Waiting after the kids left the soldier alone, an old Tam would walk up to him, slowly shifting on his cane as he did so. "It's good to see the young ones know how to give proper respect to those who deserve it. But tell me boy, what do you and your people intend to do with our village now." he turns slowly, eyeing the various construction work being done, the body burning for the monsters and the gathering of supplies. "I hope you don't intend to make us fight, there's little left of this village as it is, mostly old people, children along with men and women who lack the know-how to fight. Ashleaf's defenders are gone, and you'l have to do with your own forces. However, for anything else, food, medicine and healing, as well as extra places to sleep and more mundane taxes, we'd love to do what we can to see our village safe and sound." finishing his rant without leaving the human much time to place a word, he'd nod in satisfaction to himself, leaving the HQ as slowly as he got there. Going down the stairs, the old man's cane would snap, making him lose his balance as he'd fall towards the hard stone floor, only to be caught by a young Tam appearing seemingly out of nowhere. The young spectral man helped his elder up the both of them leaving back into town.
>>
I'm wondering if we can get an updated map of the town anytime soon.

And we should try to find a way to run supplies to the other Ragnyllian outposts, or at least consolidate the remaining personnel into Ashleaf, whichever is more feasible.

And any intel on where the hell the Black Deserters wandered off to?
>>
>>23006227
If we could get a map of the area, it'd be very helpful.

As for the Black Deserters, I'm sure we could ask Mana about that.
>>
Can someone scrounge up the most recent draft of the approved design ?

I will also note some corrections to these lists. We do not currently have some vehicle mods. However, this recent memo from our friend Kess seems to indicate we have been sent some equipment from Ragnyll proper!

>We have access to Sturms, Rolos, Hammerfausts, and Battle Standards, but no other mods currently.
>>
Now what kind of crazy modification can I apply to my little killer mole transport.
>>
== Sturms [Sa] ==

The R-28/1000 Sturm Anti-Material Rifle is a Cloven design, an attempt to cut down on the exorbinant manufacturing costs of the infamous R-22/100 "Re-election" Sniper Rifle. Compared to its older brother, the Sturm is much simpler to manufacture, and safer to fire with a greatly lessened recoil. However, this comes at the cost of firepower, and limits the Sturm to an anti-tank role, whereas the Re-election was a much more general-purpose weapon. In addition, the accuracy of the gun on the move is bad enough as to render the weapon useless. When stabilized however, its range can rival or even surpass the rifle from which it originated.

== Rolos [Mr] ==

The LIF-66 "Rolo" Projectile Flamethrower is the most unique weapon of its kind. Instead of a constant stream of fuel, the Rolo instead fires a burst of gas that acts more like a travelling explosive than a normal flamethrower. While this slightly weakens the power of the suppressive burning effect of the weapon, it gains an increased use against light armor as a concussive weapon should the main blast impact against the vehicle. As expected, the weapon is extremely dangerous, which is why its use has been restricted the the Mobil Demolition Corps due to their experience with such horrid weapons. Or perhaps that's the reason we should keep it out of their hands....
>>
== Hammerfaust [Vh] ==

The Hammerfaust was born of the realization that shaped charge anti-tank weapons were much more effective at close range. Also the designer might have been a mad zcifax. We don't really know, but the weapon is very compatible with vanguard training programs. "Hammerknights," as they are colloquially known, give up any pretense of self-preservation or subtlety when they use this weapon. While cumbersome, the Hammerfaust is perhaps the most dangerous weapon ever created - to both the target and its wielder. It has unparalleled offensive power when used with its limited rocket charges, which also grant the user a crucial boost of momentum at a critical time. However, take care not to charge in unsupported, as too often this rocket-charge ends up becoming a suicide charge as well. In exchange, almost nothing is capable of surviving a direct hit by this weapon. However unlike the Voss we are not usually in the business of throwing away our men with such tactics... even if we are in a desperate position.

== Battle Standard [As] ==

Translated from the old Valknyrian, the name "Battle Standard Assault Equipment" was given to this weapon by the original Vosskon Stormtroopers that eventually became the Krieger corps of the modern day. While the weapon has since been improved on with the Kmb41 assault rifle used by the Kriegers of the modern day, the original BSA Hnz11 still stands as a testament to post-4 corner war engineering. While lacking in range compared to more modern assault rifles, the Battle Standard's ammunition is very light - under normal infantry loads, this frees enough weight to allow an extra grenade to be carried. In addition, the weapon is capable of a prodigious reload rate so long as the weapon's rate of fire is kept down to prevent overheating of the chamber. This leaves it as an intermediate option between the Ragnyll-developed Revolutionary rifle's range and the Voss Kmb41 assault rifle's rate of fire.

As much as I love those rocket hammers, I believe that my shield is too much of a boon, I wouldn't want to risk my man's life for that. However an Ironclad's slightly superior defensive capabilities do seem like a good option. Besides, we have spears now, and if someone could design rocket lance's I'd try those out.
>>
Also as I am currently the liason for all Privates past and present wishing to enlist.... if you have a question ask me about it, I can probably answer.

Van Dragoon

A name coined after the first Ragnyllians who liberated the town of Ashleaf from a Wyrm. This joint weapon design with local dorfs, and veteran weaponsmiths have churned out this high impact melee weapon meant for downing creatures larger than the average ghoul !

The shields were smelted out of airplane hulls which was a huge boon to our metalworkers...
>>
>>23022342

Ooh. Now that's a weapon loadout I'd consider using.

Also a note of interest to all infantry soldiers: Our Major is an armor commander, and his CO buff provides a bonus to Heavy Weapons. Usually this applies to the likes of armor and Heavy Weapons teams, but it can also apply to individuals who wield ironclad suits. Just understand that utilizing an ironclad has its own tradeoffs compared to your normal loadouts.
>>
>>23022551

An example of what these ironclads are capable of: The Vanguard, the Van Dragoon, and the Hammerknight are all capable of dealing extreme damage on a normal attack if in an ironclad suit. Of particular interest to me are the Rolo and Battle Standard, however. With Gunther's guidance these weapons can become on par with those used to hunt monsters in times of yore. And since armor does not currently seem a concern, it may be worth investigating any interest into these loadouts. Of course, if armor combat becomes necessary you can always just switch back out to another class at a flag....

In the top floor of the windmill, Captain Isane swears to herself, and resists the urge to toss the radio receiver out the closest window. The Triton 5000 was a major improvement over all previous models, with plenty of features the basic 3000 near everyone uses could only dream of having. The most important of these being how untraceable communications over it were, especially as there were very few other 5000 models even in use. It costs as much as a fully loaded out Gryphon tank, plus enough ammunition for a year, but the supply clerk was quite amicable in handing it over after she gave her name and rank. If only the damn thing wasn't a chore to actually use, but with enough fiddling she could always get it to work right. The biggest problem she had with it, was that the rest of the Helghast would probably kill her if they knew that she was using such a powerful radio for what could be called 'personal calls'.

Finally, a bored sounding woman answers, "Valkyrie Post, how may I help you?"

"Is the Postmaster in?"

A series of audible clicks follows, before a sing-song voice on the other end answers her, "Who is it~?"

"Fuck off you know it's me."

"Isane! How lovely to hear your voice again, how've you been my dear?"
>>
>>23037330
Excuse me ma'am sir, will it be possible to use your radio after your done using it? I have certain personal calls I'd need to do, being all alive and all, you know?
>>
>>23038155
"No."
Isane rises from the desk, steps over to Conrad, before picking him up by the back of his shirt collar and tossing him from the room.
"Out."
The door slams shut and locks behind him.
>>
" The locals have opted to calling me guvnah, and the soldiers regard me playfully as Mr. President despite a real one existing in Clovis Federation.

Through correspondence with an old friend, it would seem that I am yet again recognized as a representative for the Ragnyllian domestic body here in Iffram. Everyone's eyes and ears are on me and I've taken this humble task of hopefully representing Ragnyll's best and liveliest out of the worst fate they had just come out from.

While there were some of us who could have moved on to the next phase of life after death- there are also those, like us, who have returned if perhaps to fight the evils that continue to haunt us after we've passed. One wrong misstep in these critical times and it's possible that Aeon will engulf us, if we do nothing, the Voss will surely rise up again and engulf us, and if we wait too long ? And if we get too desperate ? Then many sharks will rend us piece by piece for each hand we hold out for help- and this world will truly be engulfed by a massively pointless massacre over war itself.

What if Lanista was right in pursuing the deathgod of War ? If one such being of awful power existed- this would be their ideal storm. And these Deathgods- I was certain that the Royal Guard had wiped out all possible means of creating them from the Kashir. If Vilkas was certainly capable of one act it would be this one.

It had shocked me to learn and yet I was unsurprised that even /he/ made flight from Voss itself. The nationalists and martial's grip of that country is tightening. Whoever is driving this plot is sitting up there over so many towers and guns high... "

Hans tilted his head back.

" Perhaps it is time to tell these soldiers everything I know before it is too late.. "
>>
" If you are now tuning in, everybundy - it is I, James Malone on Clovis SkyRadio available in all frequencies. That was " The Line, and you Have Crossed it" By Fisher Brothers, hoping that the thousands of lost souls who have returned from the realm of the dead enjoy a second chance at life- and that everyone in Clovis salutes you for lifelong service- and then some ! Speaking of Ragnyll, our favorite underdog here in the States, the expansion of the Ragnyllian-Vosskon border are showing steady signs of wear as the Voss has once again made an increasing push south almost reaching Stallion. While casualties were low, Ragnyllian personnel begin to tire after the 6 week long push into their main-land. And who indeed comes to their rescue but the ressurrected soldiers of Christmas Past Wars ?

In the flesh, baby. Currently there are talks with Ragnyllian and Aeoni diplomats and there is already church buzz roaring that these returned souls are in fact " from hell " or should be rejected by Ragnyll ! Well Ragnyll ? What will you do request from the Ifframi for your boys to come home ? Or keep tightlipped so that the Aeoni doesnt brand you as a heretical state ? Choices choices-- and the Voss definitely wants you to take your time.

However what we're all curious about here is- what will the returned soldiers say ? What will Iffram decide ?
>>
>>23040217
Man, I didn't literally fight my out of Hel just to have Aeon of all people getting all up in our face about it. Assholes, all of them.
>>
You know how it is sir. Escape the pan, end up in the fire, escape the fire and find yourselves chased by the cook. Get caught and then your back in the pan again.
>>
"Aeoni already tried to "convert" us once didn't they? The guys who started this shit need to be given over to Ifframi Justice, but the guys who got pulled through? We need them. Fuck the Aeoni bastards and their Book of the gun, let's see them fuck us over when we got a couple centuries worth of soldiers back."

The private sneers, and growls, around the nails held in his teeth, "ah dam- ah.... damsel," he said, catching himself as he looked down at the young sleekfoot girl who had been helping him repair the damaged building that would soon serve as a motorpool, "would you please hand me that awl there?" he gestures towards the corkscrew shaped metal tool, "this bar ain't coming loose"
>>
He had entirely forgotten about the girl while listening to the small staticky radio next to them. If his old paran had caught him cussin' infront of a child, soldier or no, Ralin would've been over his knee in a wink and his hide tanned with that old leather belt of his.
>>
These aspecys are cool, is there a way to get more of them?
>>
>>23045078
Nope, you get one.

Then you get to upgrade it 3 times.

Upgrades work like this:

6 Quantitative Upgrades to your stats (anything that is simply a boost to your numbers), for 10 xp each.

1 Aspect upgrade (from the list, there's a few not on it, like Xeno aspect, but those are wild cards I believe, you never know what you're going to get out of them), for 20 xp

3 Qualitative Upgrades to Aspect (anything that's not a straight number. Giving yourself new powers basically), for 10 xp each.

This system ALSO applies to vehicle upgrades, but I believe you have to choose between upgrading your squad or your vehicle, vehicle upgrades and vehicle aspects are rarely worth it unless you're a pilot, cause vehicles are almost universally GIANT targets, and only the pilot gets the autoeject ability, making them more survivable. But if you can swing it with another class, more power to you.
>>
"Priest to Command. We're still lost. Requesting radio triangulation and pickup before this farm house becomes our grave tonight."
>>
>>23048009
"Is somebody manning the radio room?" Ralin calls out, climbing up and out from the hole in the roof. "Sorry little lady, gotta go deal with this." He grunts and takes off along the wall, running for the building with the radios. Sliding along the snow, he lifts open the window just below the wall and slides through it. Looking around, seeing if anybody is on it, he picks up the proper radio (not the one Isane was using over on the windmill), "This is Ashleaf Base, Helghast Ifframi opperations center, reading you loud and clear Priest. What is your local and position."

He begins pulling out the series of maps (god they looked like a fucking maze book, the kind where you link paths based on letters, how the hell did the Ifframi DEAL with this?) he started at Ashleaf and began to work his way out along the roads, looking out for any marks that might give him some idea of where this Priest guy was based upon what he said. He silently prayed one of the scouts or pilots or somebody -better at map reading than he was- would get into the radio room soon.
>>
>>23048605

"Ashleaf, Priest. Location unknown, Jo had the maps the first night. Current position is a damned ruined home."
>>
>>23050285
"Gotcha, describe your surroundings then. Major land marks, things like that. Failing that, you got a mobile artillery with ya? Fire a flare into the air."

He switches to his personal radio box for communication on the battlefield, and puts out the request pick up signal. The moment somebody picks up and responds properly he says "Get up on the windmill lookout post and keep an eye out for a flare. Call me back when you're up there and looking alright? We got somebody stranded, possibly nearby, bring a shortsnout and a flare round with you. It's not hard, load it, fire directly into the air if I tell you too, otherwise don't use it."
>>
>>23050397

"No joy, Ashleaf. Emergency Engineering squad only. We've been trying to link up since the first night. I've got hills to the West, I think that way is West."
>>
>>23050864
"Gotcha, we'll see what we can do,"
>>
Well if we're recieving their signal we can triangulate their position. Shouldn't be too difficult
>>
>>23048605
>>23050397
The Adviser ducks through the door wearing his ironclad, the sound of the radio echoing from his suit. Not so gently, he shoves Ralin away from the radio.

"You fool! You just gave away our position to anyone listening in!"
>>
>>23053995
I'm fairly certain the fact that we are occupying Ashleaf isn't exactly a secret. We've been using the radio constantly since we've been revived.
>>
>>23053441
"Doesn't that, you know, require us to get readings from 3 separate points? Usually far apart? Also, SPACE IS WARPED HERE, no way to know if it'd give us an accurate read."

>>23053995
"OW! FUCK! Who the hell cares! The locals don't use radio, and the Voss are way the fuck out away from here. Sure they might know, but I got a feeling everyone does. Since that whole "Law of Arthur" took effect and made us sanctioned owners and protectors of the town and all."
>>
>>23055607
you got a better idea then peering through a pari of binoculars looking for a ruined house by a hill? Need a remind you this is ghoul country right now? Theres gonna be a lot of those
>>
>>23056313
"The ghouls were all cleared out. Look, one second." he takes the radio back from advisor. "Priest, this is Ashleaf, keep an eye out for a flare. Gonna launch a new one every 10 minutes for the next hour if you see the first one I'm about to launch, you have 10 minutes to get up and start looking around." Ralin waits for a confirmation and then begins to climb back out of the communications room and through the barracks towards the radio tower.
>>
>>23055607
"That's no excuse for a lack of radio discipline. And you'd do well to remember that the Black Deserters are still out there. Tell the Engineer to keep walking around, he'll find something eventually."
>>
>>23055607
>>23056518
Advisor knocks the radio out of Ralin's hand.

"They don't NEED to triangulate us if you keep saying the name of this town every other sentence. And that is not how arthurian law works! The townspeople may be grateful that we saved them from being eaten, but the state will see us occupiers. We are by no means sanctioned.

He picks up the radio, "I'd suggest you not launch any flares, unless you want the attention of any iffram or beast attracted to bright shiny lights in the area."
>>
>>23057921

"Shut up Advisor, their Queen's name is Arthur right? Arthur's Law, magical pseudo law, forget it." he shouts at the radio handle, "Ten minutes, flare going up for you to help find the place." he glances at Advisor, "also, best try to find somebody who out ranks me bud to order me not too, cause I think command will take you wasting more ibonyte out of your hide. Ralin was busy setting up the fortifications along the northern face of the officer's barracks. "I'll keep mum about any plans sir, ma'am, but just sayin' my bit, can we avoid anything more made from the blood of entire slaughtered villages? I mean, not that we run form 'em, just that we don't go lookin' for 'em? After all, we're just here to pick up as many of our revived as possible and then go back to open up a front against the Voss right?"

" People of Ashleaf. I am but a messenger for the crown. Might I be granted passage into your domain ? Or shall I open one up for myself ? "

Once again, Ralin is working on fixing shit. In this case, the big doors. He had been out and helping the locals log some, then binding the suckers in big old metal and rope bands. It wasn't PRETTY but it was THICK and they weren't gonna break down. According to some guy calling himself a "Bloq Smith" it would be super easy to buff them up using magic. Ralin didn't question it, he just got shit set up and hanging on the hinges.

"Oh, just a second, ALRIGHT CHARLES! GET ON THE PULLIES! WE MIGHT BE GETTING OUR FIRST TEST RUN!"

He turns to the messenger, "We just got these up, so if you could hold off on blowing them open for a bit? I gotta go check with my superior's right?" he pulls out a chocolate bar he'd been saving for a special meal, but what the hell, "Here, show of hospitality. I'd get you a chair to wait on, but it might take longer to do that than to get the brass." He nods and sprints for the wall, climbing it with surprising speed, hand over hand, and hoping onto the walkway on the top, racing towards the Officer's Barracks and rapping on one of the windows, "Major! Captain! Ifframi ambassador or something, apparently from their royalty or somethin'! Front gate. Says if we don't let him in he'll 'open a passage up' for himself, his words, not mine."

Mind you my good messenger, I'd love to help you come in, but I'm afraid the sadly crazy and often absent-minded commanders of this unit are not here at the moment and I fear they may do something horrible to me should I help an unknown like you.

However, If you can let yourself in without problems, then please, do be my guest, after all this is more your country then mine. Welcome to Ashleaf, make yourself at home because we sure did.

Hears this being called down from the walls, and looks on in horror "CHARLES OPEN THE GATES! WE SPENT HALF A DAY ON LOGGING THOSE DAMN TREES ALONE!"

The centaur waves from the mechanisms and begins to pull, ropes pull, and the thick gates creak and slowly open, pushing up mud and dirt in their wake, leaving shallow grooves.

Ralin weezes as he finishes running back, "Oh good. Mr. Truman is here," he wipes his brow.
>>
>>23068645
Morning Truman. Or would you prefer sir? I'd have let our friend in, but you know how the command is here....
>>
>>23068645

Actually, I would imagine our goals are the same. You wish to be back in your country do you not ? If we can start there then the rest of our conditions can follow through.

I hear that you are also not in league with the Black Deserters, if this is true then our tensions with you is lessened, but the Queen's dominion over these lands are not as absolute as we would like. For you see, there are elements in this realm that has always seeked to take down this country- and we've had more than a fair share of our interplanar invaders. So are you willing to hear my request ?
>>

Interplanar? Aeonids? Bugs? Oh we have experience fighting those.

"Um, sir? She's probably a mage?" Ralin says, looking at the red dressed woman, "My guess is she can probably turn us inside out while barely breaking a sweat, she's -always- armed right? But yeah, Let me go help charles with opening the gates ehn?"

He goes over to the centaur on the pulley and wench, helping turn the large wheel so that the gates finish opening with a BAM! of wood on stone.
>>
>>23068742
Ah you're right...But I hate taking command from others and assuming things for them.
>>
" You see this region has been the most unstable it's been since the past century , and because of the return of the undead plague local tribes and warlords have been claiming sovereignity again in the Wyld-lands where our Royal guard cannot touch. And of course among these warlords is what we would expect to be the Black Deserters hiding behind them for support. Our Queen would do away with these elements- but even Nelleny herself cannot break her own rules of non-aggression so openly on her own realms. Not only that there are more towns- many towns like this one that is being overrun by these self made rulers and are using the shield of the undead to keep their autonomy. Our Army is strong- but we are exhausted. Part of that blame rests on your being here for surely you carry the burden of having caused the deaths of many as of late even if the fault is not completely your own.

But that is not all, what troubles us is the spell and rituals used. It is not a normal gate, and we only know of one such figure who has studied in the Astroplanar rifts as dark and as effective as this one.

I am sure you have heard of Baron Hinzerhaus of Voss ? "
>>
>>23068898

"Hey, hey, what's all the commotion over here?" An out of breath Corporal Clyde pushes his way through to the center of the crowd. "Agh, Goddess be damned, I can't manage all of these men by myself-" He stops when he meets the gaze of the red messenger. "Uh, hello."

After introductions and getting caught up, the Corporal raises an eyebrow at the mention of Hinzerhaus. "Well, I never met any man by that name, but when the Hellghast originally captured Stallion on the initial counter-push into Voss territory I'm pretty sure we took his research facility as well. Had to clear the damn basement of bugs, we did. Place was - well actually it reminded me a lot of Iffram. Rooms bigger on the inside than out, planar rifts, monsters the size of battle tanks, roaming undead, etc."
>>
>>23068898
"Never heard of him ma'am, but," he looks to Mr. Truman as he spoke, waiting to see if the former leader would stop him or want him to stop, "We've got out own war to fight back home... our job is to reclaim as many of the remnants of Ragnyll as possible then return home to help against the newest voss incursion... they MIGHT let us stay, and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to hand your lot the black deserters... but... well, it's not -our- fault, in the specific or general, that this happened, and claiming that it is might tick off the brass back home... we both got problems... but... if you could, you know, gently help us gather back up the revived Ragnyllians who aren't amongst the black deserters? Bring them back here to regroup, or send them back to Ragnyll to help in our war... well-"

>>23069525
"OH! Corporal!" Ralin salutes, "sorry sir, speakin' out of turn and all, but, well, we need help regaining the loyalists right? And sending them back home? Iffram might be exhausted, but as long as it ain't fighting, they can atleast guide our scattered forces back home, meanwhile we can take care of the black deserters in return? Win-win right? We bolster the forces back home against Voss, and Iffram becomes more stable?" he shifts his eyes to the red messenger, "I mean... if we just LEAVE them in a lurch, we'll be leaving a lot of folks behind... and I'm bettin' Iffram will, when it gets organized... side with voss over us... and... well... can we afford that kinda magic backing up those necro-nuts?"
>>
>>23069604

"That's a lot of strategy talk coming from a private who just woke up from the eternal sleep. Even I don't get to know theater-level grand strategy stuff like troop numbers in what locations, I'm just busy keeping this base from tearing itself apart!"

"Look. Our best chance at catching the Black Deserters has come and gone. It seems to me now that trying to catch up to them would blow this wide open. Of course it'll probably end up as another front in the war even without us interfering. But still, a campaign in strange and distant lands, fighting against an insurgency fueled by elements of our own nation? It'll be ugly, even if it becomes necessary."
>>
>>23069945
"I was barely dead for minutes sir... got shot on one of the northern fronts shortly after deploying, and then all this happened about 5 minutes after I woke up, I got sucked out of Hel and landed next to you guys... So I'm not entirely sure it -counts- if you take my meaning..."
>>
>>23070221

"Dead is dead, private. Except when it isn't, which happens too often nowadays..."
>>
>>23070221
"yeah, but not exactly -endless- sleep... not even really long enough to qualify that as POETIC..."

He thinks for a moment, "Wait a moment... did my body get dragged here after? Or is there a dead me laying around some place..." he shrugs, "Either way, don't matter. Sir. We need friends, and not enemies, Iffram would become our enemy if we didn't help... and they'd be giving us friends if we did it... or at least provided support for doing so, supplies, something."
>>
>>23070421

"Don't overanalyze exposition, kid."

"Anyways, you're talking like it'll be some tiny errand and we'll be back home in a snap. It won't. Fighting against an insurgency of native peoples with a force completely inexperienced with the region? Especially a region as strange as Iffram? That would cost just as much money and lives as the war back home."

"It's a good thing I don't think that's what she's going to ask us for."
>>
>>23070674
"Alright, alright." He shrugs.
>>
>>23068898
Captain Isane steps forward.
"It's been a while since I've heard that name, what exactly does Hinzerhaus have to do with this?"
>>
>>23075833
Baron Hinzer is the leader of transplanar teachings and through his methods alone understood the working behind the gates without relying on Magical Lore. It's possible that if we find him here in Iffram during his "research retreats" we could gain a few leads on the Black Deserters and most importantly finding the ones responsible for this whole plot.
Hinzer is also suspect of course... tell me you didn't happen to meet anyone else that was interested in his work did you not ?
>>
>>23075976
The image of the midian Helena comes straight to Isane's mind. "Yeah, I can think of one who fits perfectly, possibly a few others. I do know someone else who is quite familiar with Hinzerhaus, but contacting them might be a tad difficult."

" I see. I suppose it can't be helped."
From her cloak she produces a map and rolls it out on a desk before them.

" Ifframi Rebels calling themselves the Dragon Army have gathered in the Mysts and have made a Keep for themselves in StormRock. Using the black plague that has been spreading as a means to stir up resentment among the lost populace, they have been slowly gathering more refugees to induct and recruit. Since the Royal Army itself would not find it in their bones to act against them- a maurauding band of Liberators like yourselves could could take them down using methods that us Ifframi are not well suited to fight against.

We will have you take the gate in the Moony Wood south of Storm Rock, and from there you will make your way to destroy the Dragon Army once and for all for us.

Do this, and we will promise your unconditional return to your Ragnyll, decorated as heroes "

>>
>>23076745

As you are indeed invaders of the same ilk as this Dragon Army; we would simply have no problem telling your home country to wash their hands of you while the Royal Army, along with the Voss happily comes down on you like the many planar threats that walk through our gates. You certainly would not be the first.

Now, you wouldn't want your country facing a 3 front war now would you ? If Aeon joins in it would truly be bad for us all, but if you earn the gratitudes of the people of these lands, Arthur will run better her country while you can go back to yours~ "

Gunther then turns to his gathered men and women.

"Also, I've put this off for far too long, but lately we've had a gap in our officer corps. Clyde, as of now, you are a Lieutenant. Go ask the smithy to craft you some bars so the enlisted know who they're dealing with."

>Clyde is now a LIEUTENANT.

"Oh, and Lieutenant Clyde, I'll leave it to you to make sure the troops are all kitted up before we move out."

"Anybody up for some Clovis Hold'em? Also, you know that story about a deck of cards or a book of the gun stopping bullets if placed over your heart? Yeah. It doesn't work."
>>
"Oh good, now to get some low-level support staff. I'm just gonna pick someone initially."

"Conrad, since you were holding the East gate with Clover and I can't find the pilot, you've got the job until you're dead or I find someone better."

>>23088457
I'l gladly take the position, holding up against overwhelming forces, remind's me of that time in Hel where I fought the Kruss at some odd snowy battlefield. If there's one thing different from here and there, it's that Hel-level tactics don't work here, too costly in man-power.

Anyhow, thanks for the promotion, sir. As for recommendations, I'd like to bring up Pvt.Azure with a good mention for her outstanding effort at clearing a good deal of the southern part of town from zombie infestation. On a second note, I'd bring Pvt.Perturabo up to private first class for his selfless assault in the heart of the enemy to safe a few squads of soldiers, only to then make use of his new crew to obliterate the entire south-western flank of the town from the zombies and monsters by himself.

>Pvt Azure is now Corporal
>Pvt Perturabo is now Private First Class
>>
>>23089207

Approved. The same caveats on promotion apply to the rest of you, I have final say on your ranks as of the moment. And I can and will replace you with better people if I find them - so you probably want to be the best at your job.
>>
>>23089410
Now if we had an infinite number of suicidal duckies I'd say we could win this war by tomorrow, but...As I said, not Hel. I'd like to propose we try and find the few of us who have special abilities from our time doing weird things in that other world. Some of them might prove useful to know for tactical knowledge and insight.
>>
Aye sir. Thank you for the chance to prove myself. I won't let you down.
>>
OOC: This seems really intriguing. Any room for another soldier?
>>
>>23091681

Absolutely. New players are always welcome. First step is, are you a footslogger or a armor pilot?

Take a look at >>23014346 for infantry classes. Also keep in mind you may take the Ace Pilot class if you want to drive a vehicle.

Here is the list of armor: >>23014361
In addition, this list provides the use of powered armor to infantry classes.

>>23017245
This post shows alternate loadouts for some infantry classes. We only have access to some of them at the moment.
>>
>>23091876
Sweet. Are there any recommendations for what I should be? I was thinking either Element Caster or Paranormal Investigator. Also, just making sure, but my name should go like this: [C1] Pvt. Grey insert-tripcode-here. Correct?
>>
>>23091942

That is correct. I'll just mention that the Elementalist is a tad more difficult to play initially. I can probably dig up some old guides on the class but I only know very generally what they do. The Investigator can be the same way with Investigate - both classes reward a bit of imagination.
>>
>>23092007
Well, I love to use my imagination, so sounds like a pretty interesting class for me to play. Now, from what I understand, the forces of Ragnyll in these lands have been resurrected and are scattered across the country. Other than that, I have no clue what's going on here. Since that's the case, should I roleplay as a soldier who died and has no clue what time he's in?
>>
>>23092090

That's pretty much the situation. Ragnyll proper doesn't really know what to do with us yet so any support from them is nominal. Don't blame them though, they've got the Aeoni Inquisition on their case, and the Inquisition is backed up by a terrifyingly powerful army.
>>
>>23092175
Then let's hope my magic can help our situation.

A young man with short black hair approaches the gates of the base. Dressed in a tattered Ragnyllian military long-coat, and clutching a strange monocle-like device, he stops outside the tall gates and calls up to the top of the walls.

"Hello, is anyone in there?"
>>
>>23092090
Basically, an Elementalist is far more team dependent than the Investigator.

An elementalist can't be everywhere at once, at least at first. You need people to devote actions towards putting down arrays (which are basically just magic runes/circles/whathave you) in different locations. Based on where they are, you'll get different elements to draw upon to use.

You then are able to cast through arrays, so with enough arrays placed, you can pretty much dominate the battle field magically, especially if you're sitting on a flag.

You only got 5 spells though, after that, you gotta resupply at a flag somebody has set down.

What can you do with spells? Pretty much anything. Mana of a certain element (of which there are nine (they have fancier names but I'm just giving you the ones you'll know): Air, Water, Fire, Earth, Life, Death/Darkness, Chance/Chaos, and Light. Mana lets you generate these things, and manipulate them. So hurl fireballs, cause earth spikes to shoot up, build walls, cause tornadoes. Sky's the limit. But I'll warn you, Iffram has us all outclassed in magic, except for Arrays, that's the one thing we got on them.

Investigator on the other hand is a strange class, cause of the investigate ability. Everyone can "Examine" objects, spending an action to gain information about something, but you can "Investigate" which lets you basically roll and discover something important. On rare occasions, it seems almost reality warping, since you can do things like "I discover that the enemy's fortress is in a severe state of disrepair, THAT WALL THERE IS WEAK TO CANNON FIRE." I've only heard of this working a few times though.
>>
Well now welcome to Ashleaf stranger. Welcome to the land of the living as well. Lemme see about getting you inside these gates. Shouldn't take too long.
>>
>>23092175
Also yeah, Aeon is basically Crystal Dragon Jesus religion following a thing called the "Book of the Gun" written by some guy named Alexander, who apparently conquered most of the world, the Valknyres (Iffram, Ragnyll, Voss), Clovis, and one or two other nations are pretty much the only places not controlled by Aeon. Also Aeon is like, right on Ragnyll's doorstep I think, there's a nifty little pass like the one from the Persian invasion of Greece, the whole 300 deal, but Aeon could take it probably force their way through it if they ever decided they didn't care about the price of taking it, and after that it would just be a matter of time before sheer numbers overwhelmed Ragnyll.
>>
>>23092349
Well, if the Elemental Caster doesn't work out well, I'll try for a different class. With a different name as well, of course.
>>
>>23092318
"Oh hey! We're just starting up some Clovis Hold'em poker! Can you believe the guys here never played before!" he waves and calls down to the base of the wall, "Hey charles? You still there? Can you start getting the gates open a crack so we can let the new guy in?"
>>
>>23092388
"Thank you, stranger. Your clothes...are you also a soldier for Ragnyll?"
>>
"Aye, probationary Corporal Azure. Scout Sniper at your service. We've been here only a short while. Hopefully our stay isn't for too long."

Azure looks him over. "Your an elementalist I take it? Anyway gates are opening, get in here and I'll take you to Lt. Clyde, my superior, and probably yours too once thigns get straightened out. He can get you squared away. "
>>
>>23092424
"I'm not much of a gambler, but perhaps. It would be nice to play a simple game after my trek through the wilderness."

>>23092570
Once the gates open, Grey walks in and stands at salute to the Corporal.
"Yes sir. Private Aaron Grey, Ragnyllian Element Caster. I had only been deployed for a short while before our company was ambushed and destroyed by a Voss artillery strike. I haven't seen my fellows since we entered Hel, though. I hope they'll be alright."
>>
>>23092685
"We're mostly betting luxury rations, things like victory sticks and snacks, anyway, you go meet the officers... OH! Avoid the guy calling himself Advisor, complete nut case, but he's a mage like you is."
>>
"Sorry to say they could be anywhere Private. Even back in Hel. The Iffram countryside isn't the quietest place."

She guides him down the street to the large building serving as the officer quarters and knocks.

Upon it opening she salutes. "Another lost soul to join the damned sir. Pvt Grey this is our Lt. " She nods to both. "I'll be back at my post if you need me sir."

That would have to do with aspects. While you can take any aspect for a class you've played in at least one battle, I suppose the most relevant ones for casters are the caster aspects. Purchasing an aspect requires 20 XP and will be permanent over all classes you play ((as this character)).
>>
>>23092936
I'd watch the next few words you say, as badmouthing the dead will leave you among their ranks.
>>

>I don't know how you construed anything in that post as a negative rather than just a warning to the wise.

>Also hi there, haven't seen you since... well since I started playing.
>>
>>23093884
Intriguing. So, any class can take any aspect? Also, do you mean that my character can change classes at some point?

>>23093910
>>23093953
I agree, I think he was simply warning me that while such tactics did benefit his allies in the short term, in the long term they did lose a powerful, skillful, and intelligent compatriot.
>>
>>23094030
>>23093953
>>Hi.

Replace compatriot with "trusted and close friend" and you're quite correct.
>>
>>23094030

All Ragnyllian soldiers are granted at least basic training in all aspects of combat. You can switch to another class at any time, pretty much. You can even do it during combat, so long as you are next to a 'flag;' doing so immediately ends your turn.

To unlock the aspects labelled under a specific class, you need to have played as that class at some point. However once an aspect is purchased its benefits will apply to all classes you switch to, etc. Not just the class from which you unlocked it. This means, for example, you could gain some ability to cast spells as a non-caster as long as you had a caster aspect.
>>
>>23094030
You can change class between missions, (and I -think- at flags, but not positive there) but aspect is for life, and you must have played one full mission through (beginning to end or pretty much beginning to end) as that class before you can take the aspect.

Upgrades are also permanent. You buy an upgrade to range? That's just for ONE WEAPON. If your new class can't use that weapon? Tough potatoes. You start off an elementalist, and buy some extra team members (to a maximum of 4) then switch to Engineer, you've wasted an upgrade, cause engineers already got 4 team members, the upgrade does nothing.

Upgrades can also be applied to vehicles, but you should know, you got a limit on upgrades.

6 stat boosts (which must be quantitative, directly altering a NUMBER by +1), this can be applied to your character (acts, hp, mov), your weapons (range, hit rating, ammo, damage, etc.), your vehicle (armor, mov, act, dmg, range, etc.) or to your class (ratings for special abilities like investigate). These cost 10xp each. (so total of 60 possible xp to spend here)

You also get 1 aspect, for 20xp, and it can be upgraded 3 times. Aspect Boosts must be QUALITATIVE. They give you new powers, new options, new abilities, they cannot involve number boosts for the most part. These cost 10xp. These boosts need to be linked back to your aspect in some way. (For example, I'm going scarab. A carrion beetle, my first ability is going to be "Corpse Stealth" where as long as my unit is in a hex containing corpses or wreckage, they have stealth and cannot be seen by the enemy, no actions or movement required to activate it.)

Finally, there are officer bonuses. If you rise in the ranks. You'll be able to buy for 20xp (I think), a special bonus based on your already bought bonuses (so if you bought a +mov before, your officer bonus could be a +mov as well). This bonus applies to -everyone- under your command.
>>
>>23094257
If there are two people of the same rank, both with officer bonuses, the people of lower rank must declare which officer they'll be getting the bonus from.

For example, if there is a captain X and a captain Y, with officer bonuses A and B respectively, the person needs to say "I'm taking orders from captain X, and getting officer bonus A, so I'm not benefiting from the effects of officer bonus B."
>>
>>23094079
I'm sorry for your loss. I watched as my whole company was blown to pieces before I died myself.

>>23094104
>>23094257
Wow, that's a lot of options.
>>
>>23094344

Don't really worry about the huge range of options just yet. Most of the time switching classes will be too slow to save you if you're going to die anyways - better to learn the tricks of your trade very well. Worry about upgrades and aspects once you've survived a fight or two.

He peaks at his two cards on the table in the Rec Room, looking at the other players.

>>

I see, we can start the operation with staging grounds like this. I would suggest we use these gates to our advantage and only field what units we can until we establish flaglines. If the enemy is alerted, they will respond by finding and destroying the gate or our flags at full force. Your mission objective is to flag the north end of this map. Do this and the proximity from portal to flag will become meaningless.

A reminder on flags and arrays:

Flags and arrays can not be within 6 hexes of another flag or array. So plan your locations carefully and make sure not to screw up other people trying to place them. This holds especially true for arrays unless you want to short circuit them and make it so we don't get either one.

Arrays are used to empower and extend the reach of our casters. Placing them is a courtesy to your fellow soldiers.

Flags can be used to resupply ammo, health, and lost squad members. But this ends your turn immediately.

Wandering into the battle
>>
OVERALL OBJECTIVE: Flag the Northern edge of the map.

Secondary Objectives:
* Set up secure flag locations throughout the map.
* Set up an array network for elementalist support.
* Locate enemy forces.
* Eliminate the enemy, preferably without revealing ourselves.

There are two likely possibilities. The enemy will be in one group, which means we can either move around them to reach our objective, thus surrounding them, or use surprise to engage key targets after building a sufficient force. Otherwise, the enemy may be spread around the map in various locations. If possible, co-ordinated assaults of overwhelming force should be brought to bear against these individual camps to eliminate enemy forces as quickly as possible, then fade back into the forest to minimize risk of discovery by other forces.

From our limited experience and knowledge of Iffram forces, target priority is, in order:

1. Identifiable spellcasters of any type
2. Ranged units, possibly equipped with bows
3. Melee units

There exists the possibility of other units than these existing, as well as a large variety of units within each of these categories. For these priority is left to individual fire teams, though if your weapons seem capable of it: "Shoot the big ones first." Finally, if a priority target is called out over radio, fire team leaders are expected to engage those targets until destroyed.

As for dealing with any magical mishaps, we are a bit over-reliant on our elementalists for counteracting such things. I will leave it to their judgment on how best to do so. The rest of you are to assist them by placing as many arrays as possible on the map to provide cover and power for their spellcasting.
>>
>Reporting for duty.
"Seems we'll have to finish the game another time. Prepping arrays for battlefield conditions, sir."
>>
A final note on weapon loadouts: As evidenced at Ashleaf, the enemies we may fight are superhumanly durable. Any manner in which you can cause more damage is perhaps the most preferable way to deal with such targets. Do not forget that you can make a called shot at a specific part of a target's body by taking a -1 penalty to hit - the effects of this can vary based on the area targetted and the creature targetted.

Once we've secured a flag network there should be enough supplies for most fire team leaders to platoon up. Details for this will be elaborated once it becomes important.
