>Last post

Seeing as even a devil fruit as seemingly useless as one that makes people cry can turn the tides on normal people, you decide that now's as good a time as ever to take a power for yourself. After all, you were lucky enough to get this from that old man... Thinking about him sends shivers down your spine.

You uncork the bottle of sand you had kept the devil fruit in, and stare at it for a few seconds after shaking the blast sand off.
Its color and strange swirls and zigzags make it look quite odd... You've heard devil fruits taste awful, but you bet yours is delicious!

Taking a bite of one of the star's spikes, instantly your mouth is filled with the taste of dirt and gravel and there's a strange sickening sweetness as if you had eaten something that had died recently.

Your gagging and writhing in outright disgust ends up waking Bartleby and Jojo up, the portly man's expression curious until he notices the fruit and brightens up," Ah, you! You're a hammer now! Hyek, hyek.. Wonder what kind of power you'll get, hmm?"

Something in your heart turns as you realize you just ate something that would've had you set for life... though the truth is that this could be more interesting...

With your intuition, you manage to make the air in front of you dense to the point that you cam feel it push against you. This'll definitely take some getting used to... and water is your enemy from now on..

With Bartleby awake, you ask him about selling weapons to the villagers. The man scratches his head and shakes it side to side. "I'm sorry, aside from surface info from the pirates, I can't think of any villagers that would make a stand, you said that they're all sad, correct?

Yeah... well not for long... hehe...

You turn in as you've had a long day. Running from pirates, becoming a hammer, planting blast sand.. great fun...

>Recap

Ophelia Reers begins her adventure at the age of seventeen, with six of her father's guns and a small sloop carrying cargo from the Merchant's guild!

She followed the wind to an unknown island, met a perverted fat man and procured a devil's fruit along with loot and Jojo, bird of Paradise, before the island walked away!

Upon arriving at her original destination, she runs into the Alli Alli pirates and sells them shitty weapons for extortionist prices!

Meeting up with Bartleby, she finds out that the mysteery island's sand is known as blast sand, and that it's highly explosive. Arming a jar, she meets the leader of the Ali pirates, almost falling for his fruit power!

Howeever she flees, plants the charge, and makes it back to base, finally eating her devil fruit!

I've changed some things for the character "sheets" to be more in line with my Overhuman stories.

As I am a growing believer that rolls are full of suck for Quests, this will turn into a roll-less quest. The "stats" will forever be vague metaphoric values, and never inherently specific.

And yes, we'll have time to do training for any one of them.

Sound good?
>>
>>22985279
Okey-dokey. Let's get to questin'.
>>
I wake up in the morning, stretching myself out like a cat. Oh boy did I sure sleep good. Nothing like the smell of the sea mixed in with a dense jungle, right?

Bartleby snores loudly on the deck of my small ship. The old man's loud, but he's so adorable, I can hardly be mad.

Jojo glares at me from his "crow's nest" atop the mast. He's not saying anything this morning, though I swear his eyes are red... Maybe Bartleby's snoring kept him up all night? Oh, that'd just be awwwweful... Hehe..

The Blast sand will detonate this evening, and the villagers are all likely feeling sympathetic for that bizzaro captain guy... What should I do first?

I think we need to know exactly what we can do, since I think we just ate our devil fruit(?). Let's see what our limits are and what our devil fruit can effect. Experiment a little, you know?

May as well get good with it. We have that strange ancient air gun thing, try making air bullets.
>>
Fuck yeah I was worried this quest died your awesome op.

Practice, then rally. I get the feeling we can counter-act the Cry-Man's hold over the villagers with our own powers.
>>
>>22985387

I've been running Overhuman and Dreamland Quest alternative nights. Dreamland didn't really get much of anything... So I'm picking my Grand Ocean back up in the rotation.

Basically Overhuman = Drama/superpower/grit
Dreamland/Grand Ocean= Happy, awesome, fantastical.

Unanimous vottage!

What do I focus practice on? I have in mind to make air bullets...
>>
>>22985428
AIR BULLETS! And walls, air walls are hella useful.
>>
>>22985428
Hmm. Alright, can we make ourselves harder? (Sorry about the awkward wording.) Like, can we make ourselves as hard as stone, or even harder, to deflect things? Can we only effect air? We need to determine this.
>>
>>22985516
indeed, if we're gonna get anywhere in this great seas we have to find the most unexpectedly broken use of our power, and fast!

>>22985555
Made out of air/other stuff and ourselves of course.
>>
>>22985516
One step at a time, traders...
>>
With my decision made last night, I wave my hand around and feel the air slowly get harder and denser. It takes a bit to get the feeling down, but I get the general "muscle" to flex when I want to start using this weird power.

It's still pretty weak though, just as it is.

Jojo swoops down and drops the airgun in front of me," Hey toots why don't ya try using that?! Don't be a dumbass, ah?"

With a flick of movement, I send a bullet through the air near Jojo, making him sqawk and go back to his nest.

Spinning my first gun, I like to call "Charisma," I put it back in its brace after doing a reload.

Well, well. The bird may have a point.. Though he's got quite the mouth...

Handling, the air gun, I pull the trigger as hard as I can and a torrent of air comes out that knocks me back upon my ass.

"Well.. Ow..."

Jojo laughs at me from afar, as he circles the mast... He's lucky I don't have birdshot...

Picking up the gun again, I look it over. Noticing that there's a switch on the side of it. It's flipped all the way up... to "Hurricane."

I roll my eyes, Jojo...

>>22985555
Hardening the air in people's lungs, to open a lock just harden the air in the shape of a key and use that. If we're against a Logia for some reason we might be able to harden them and hit them giving us something similar to CoA Haki.

If we go more abstract we can harden people's hearts so they don't pay attention to people suffering.
>>
>>22985593
[X] Practice Air Bullets

That ought to be fun.
>>
>>22985593
Barrier making that way if we fall in the ocean we can harden the air underneath us to prevent getting wet also shields.
>>
>>22985593
>>[] Practice Air Bullets
>>22985601
But can we harden OTHER parts of them? Then again, it's not like we NEED our power to do that.
>>
>>22985593
>>[x] Practice Barrier Making.
once we have a good wall let's try for a platform. the midair kind.
>>
>>22985633
We can do that all on our own, and as it's pretty much a requirement to think of sex related uses of a DF power this one's pretty good. If we're doing a man we can keep them hard for as long as we could ever want. Less useful on girls, hardening their nipples maybe?
>>
>>22985593
>[X] Practice Barrier Making.
We can protect ourselves with our guns as it is, but we need to supplement our defense now with our new powers. If we take an errant spill over the sloop, we have to be sure we can stay above the water and not ruin our shit.
>>
>>22985593
Agreeing with the others here, we need a way to not die first, and barrier making seems to be it.
[X]Practice Barrier Making.
>>
So, thinking about One piece itself...

Not all DF powers have a retardedly high learning curve...

I figure Luffy sucked as a kid because
1. He was a kid.
2. Weaponizing rubber to be more than a rubber band would be freaking hard...
>>
>>22985741
Kaku worked out how to wreck shit with the fucking Giraffe Fruit pretty damn quickly.
>>
>>22985741
3. He's borderline retarded.
I vote for making ourself 'hard'. That pirate captain's power is pretty debilitating, and if we can make ourselves incapable of giving a shit...
>>
>>22985767
that's cause zoans are many stat boosters taht don't have esoteric powers
>>
>>22985797

Other example is the soap woman who found the most strange and abstract way to use her power.

And Alvida's slip fruit was maybe after a month or something... (though that's a more inherent effect like the gomu gomu...)

awww shit its profit time?
>>
>>22985741
Luffy, in his rematch with Crocodile, figured out how to turn the Gomu Gomu no Pistol into the Shotgun by flicking his arm midflight. That's the only recorded time I've ever seen the Shotgun.

But yeah, what >>22985777 said: Luffy is honest-to-God dumb as a post, more than likely retarded. He's single-minded and doesn't really follow much of anything. He outright doesn't care about anything but treasure, his friends' current state, One Piece, and becoming king of the pirates. He's not exactly a combat genius, either. He is a wrecking ball that you point in a direction, and things just happen.

changing my vote to this
>>
>>22985777
This plan sounds profitable. Let's go with it.
>>
Guys! Guys! I just realized we can use our power to drive a "hard" bargain.
>>
>>22985777

That said, Ophelia's a pretty smart cookie.
>>
>>22985901
now you are thinking with profit!
>>
>>22985902
Then compared to Luffy, figuring out new uses for our power, especially on the fly, should be a walk in the park.
>>
I figure that as I already know I can change how the air is, I should work more on making barriers.. My own guns will do for now after all, but if I tangle with pirates, I need to be more than just a hammer with a set of nice pistols...

I start to force out a wall in front of me and start to see light refracting in the air itself... Touching it, the barrier shatters after a bit of force.

With another attempt, I continue even after the air begins to refract and this time it takes a good kick to break it. The shards fly, and continue to glisten until I stop focusing on them... well... that's interesting...

Third time's the charm, right? Focusing on a an even thicker wall, the refracting light becomes even more apparent and I notice that I've messed up a bit, in that the center is quite a bit thicker... And... I smell burning wood?

I look at the barrier, and see a focused beam of light charring the deck, "Oh crap!"

Drawing my pistol, I lovingly call "Luck," I shoot the barrier only to have it fall, and roll around before I remember to just dissipate it.

Bartelby rubs his eyes as he starts to wake up from the early morning gun-fire.. or maybe it's the smell of burning wood...

"Mmm... What's good 'n this morn' Miss Reers? What're ya shoot'n at?"

I feel my face flush," Oh, umm.. Birds... Y'know.. noisy ones."

"She's a damn liar! She's trying to kill birds!" Jojo squawks from the mast.

Well... Umm.. Right...

Bartleby scratches his head," Well, I could us'm me a bird for breakfast. Miss Reers, what's in the galley?

"Dried meats, fruits, other long-lasting edibles. Life on the sea with no cook is only so tasteful after all..." I twirl a finger in my hair as I ramble on.

After some proper breakfast, Bartleby helps me out a bit with barrier-making. I get the hang of making two different shapes, the thick-centered one from before, and a more evenly distributed one. Both seem to render bullets ineffective, much to my joy.
>>
>>22985920
Well Luffy isn't that smart he's a remarkably good fighter. I mean he worked out a way around Enel's mantra pretty quickly, picked up CoA and CoO pretty quickly and pretty well, Gear 2nd and 3rd were creative, he's reasonably smart when it comes to fightan.
>>
>>22985962
oh my..... I like our power
>>
>>22985972
I still hesitate to call Luffy a "combat genius" or "fighter savant." Most of the time, he just walks into a fight without rhyme or reason and just throws fists everywhere.
>>
The sun's reaching noon..
I should prepare to take advantage of the Ali Ali Pirates' confusion when their ship up and detonates... I had thought briefly of taking the head of the captain myself... I wonder how high his bounty is.. might be worth a ship if I'm lucky... I smile.. When it comes to devils on the sea, numbers become more and more useless, no?

Taking my... erm.. budding crew with me, we sneak through the jungle to get to the village.

All the while I talk to my father's pistols, giving them a little bit of a pep talk one at a time...

With a polishing wipe of my sleeve, I whisper some sweet words to Charisma," You've gotten me through many sales old friend... Let's see if you can make this deal...

Admiring the red wood of Strength's stock," I've never had much use for ya... But I'm sure oneday you'll be more than just a oneshot wonder..

Pulling "Luck" out and eying the barrel suspiciously," You've never done me wrong.. keep up the good work."

Brandishing "Skill," I smile and twirl it about and between my fingers, throwing it up before catching it, nothing needs to be said.

With a slick draw, I peek at "Cunning."
"Only a fox has the wiles to kill a wolf.. let's see if it works on Alligators...

And lastly, I draw "Fortitude" and feel sick... My father never had much of a use for this piece of crap. I almost want to throw it away...

Jojo squawks from the trees overhead," Hey No- Brow! Get a load of this chick and her cra-"

Skill missed him by a feather. I meant to, of course.

If I can momentarily hijack the thread, with apologies to Gol D. Roger.

I apologize for my disappearance, but I did an emergency move last week after losing my job. Because of the stress I've been suffering from some bad writer's block and have no idea how to advance Marine Quest.

I want to get it back up and running and keep trying for new ideas, so what I'm asking is: would people still be interested in continuing Marine Quest or has my absence just killed the mood for it?

Just respond to this post with your answer and that will be that, I won't interrupt Gol's quest thread any more than that. If there is interest than I will work hard to get something ready for next week. If you have any ideas as to how to improve Marine Quest just send me an email.

"Ew, woman, what do you think I'm gay!? I'm not going anywhere near those dudes!"

"Not... even for me?" I pout my lips, never having thought I'd seduce a bird.

Jojo's beak hangs open a moment," All... all right... I'll go and check 'm... but you owe me!"

He flies off, circling the ship a couple times before returning to our cover.

"Bah. they're all sobbing in the town's square. It looks like Gatorfag is going to give the villagers something to be sad about."

I raise a brow in interest," Oh? And whatever is he doing?"

"Well, he's getting ready to kill them."

My heart drops and Bartleby scrunches his face up in anger.

"That... that fiend! I won't be able to forgive him if he lays a hand on them! He's been using them for weeks, and now this?!"

Well, with that decided, I can't just leave well enough alone. With a clenched fist, I feel Bartelby's pain... After all... if my customers die... who's going to give me their money?

We slide on down from our vantage point in the shrubbed hill and sneak between the houses in the outskirts of town. We hear a gunshot and Bartleby's about to go mad until Jojo reports that it was just a shot to the sky. Though I reassure him that I'll solve this all with a bit of "Charisma."

Getting in close to the square, we sneak into an open house and set up some traps. Bartleby gets a creepy look on his face as he finds some of his potions in the building...

From the window I peek out briefly, taking a look at the sobbing pirate, I start to tear up, thinking about how difficult this will be... He's... he's just a sad ma-

I shake my heard furiously and harden my heart, resisting the effect of his fruit. I take a shot with charisma and he buckles, screaming. Everyone goes silent, for a moment, the sobbing stops...

Then everything breaks loose. The villagers start to attack the pirates, the pirates the villagers and the captain starts to really cry, his face scrunched up in pain.

I feel sorry for the guy...

Downstairs, footsteps can be heard,"Man... this is so freak'n sad... I heard it from here! I swear!" One of the pirates blubs.

Stand ground,
Ask for JoJo's assistance. maybe he can do that thing with the thing again.
>>
>>22986875
[X] Stand ground, right where I want them...

[X] Ask for the Pistols' assistance.
That's right, they're good pistols aren't they.
>>
>>22986875
>[] Take advantage of the confusion, shoot him dead.

ask "Luck" and "Skill,"
>>
>>22986875
Stand ground, ask for Bartleby's assistance. He was awfully giddy about whatever stockpile he found.
>>
>>22986875
Take advantage of the confusion, shoot him dead.

Bartleby assistance.

With the onset of men from downstairs, I decide that it's prudent to stand my ground, I let customers come to me when I set up shop, why not them?!

However, with the confusion outside I decide to give Luck a kiss and fire a hip-shot that puts another hole in their captain. He screams in agony, though still doesn't appear quite dead... I hoped he might,, but Alive brings a higher bounty anyway.

More chaos comes in from downstairs.

"The shooter's here! Get 'em!"

With a sideways glance and a knowing smile," Bartleby?"

The fat man says no words and simply tosses two potions so that they clash in the middle of the stairs, generating a dazzling, blinding light.
"Burn-begone caused burns, and Light-wrought needed fire to make light! Hyek Hyek Hyek!" He laughs about his failed experiments at work now.

"Gah! What the hell is that?! My eyes! My beautiful immaculate eyes!"

I look away as Bartleby throws down another potion.

"And if Salamander is exposed to lots of light, it explodes... Hyek Hyek... Ah?"

I hear a rumble as Bartleby's antics cause the building to come down.

Crap! What do I do?!

[X] Leap from Building!

We can harden our feet/rump to take the impact better if we don't land right.
>>
>>22987111
>>[] Leap from Building!
Use a barrier as a slide.
>>

>[X] Leap from Building!
As tempting as it is to see if the Hard Hard Fruit pulls through here to protect us from the building, it's all-around safer to not be there. Jump for it, use the fruit's power to cushion our fall (because what we can harden, we ought to be able to SOFTEN, riiiiiiiiight?).

"Crap, we need to get out! Jojo! Grab Bartleby!"

"Gah! Fine!" The large bird grabs the man and flies out of the window.

I do my own epic leap outside, making the air hard, causing me to fall slowly until I gently land on the ground just as the building comes tumbling down... You know, it was nice that I got out of there...

But now I'm surrounded by angry pirates, villagers, and a Devil fruit captain... Oh for the love of Profit.

Prime

[X] Create barriers to buy time for negotiation... and do as such...

Create the barriers, make them think we're trying to talk, but actually box them in.

[X] Stop! Dial time!

Once they're boxed in we just throw a fucking hurricane at them and laugh.

>>22987205

Maxim 27, don't be afraid to be the first to resort to violence.

If any start to get close throw up a barrier so they run into it.

What he said. We already know they're going to kill the village, so no mercy for these guys.

Fruit dont fail me now

Also Maxim 37 "There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload.'"
>>
>>22987214
I like this, they won't see what's coming, and we can shoot the ones that live.

Seconding this.

And Maxim 6: If violence was not your last resort you failed to resort to enough of it.

That might actually be good for Overhuman...

With the pirates surrounding me, I throw my hands up and make some quick barriers around myself. I glance around and see that Jojo and Bartleby are nowhere to be found...

The pirate grunts rush me all at once, knocking themselves into my walls of air.

The captain slowly stands with some bandages around his wounds. I got him in the stomach and in the shoulder, I note.

"Hyar Hyar Hyar!! The girl from th' other night! ... I've been look'n fer you...." he begins to blubber as tears stream down his face. his crew wipe their faces and eyes as they mutter," Such beautiful love... Such a sad story, and so on.

My heart is a lump of iron," Yeah, yeah! So, what do you want saggy ass?!"

The captain stops, and then smiles greedily," Hyar Hyar... Seems that you've got some tolerance to my 'power...'

I smile, the idiot's distracted. I begin to make one big barrier outside of my own, boxing them in while he rambles on about young love and fate, and bla, and blah...

"Hey, are you listening?! You... " He blubbers out even MORE oh come on!
"So insensitive, you demon woman, faker!"

Did he just say I'm not a woman? His men rush me to be stopped by my wall.

I smile and take out the Dial Pistol as my sidearm, flipping the switch to "Hurricane." and reading the air to be hard.

Pulling the trigger, all of these weirdoes get blown around till they're unconscious, dead, or surrender.

Next time!

>The aftermath!
>The next adventure!
>Sailing on the winds of profit!

(I'm gonna turn in for the night. Getting tired... don't wanna leave you guys hangin if I pass out.)
