You were a 30 year old awkward lonely overweight virgin neckbeard who lived in his mother's basement. You were granted the unusual birthday present of being turned into a petite female elven bard entirely against your will and dropped naked in the middle of a forest. You and the gentle orc ranger, Jack Carson, and the wild elf scout, Varaia, became traveling partners after misadventures in the frontier town of Salvation.

You all boarded a train bound for Newport and had multiple, increasingly dangerous encounters with rail workers turned bandit. Jack found out he needed to go to Mildania to save his brother and sister from the Blackmountain organized crime family, so you all took a ship to Mildania; it ended up getting sunk by deep ones. After working your way through the countryside and meeting some of Jack's family, you ended up staying with his childhood friend Millie as you started your war against the Blackmountain family.

Your current plan is to try to infiltrate a high-class brothel as a live musician while Rory tries to find a tunnel into the place. The overall goal is to find a way to subvert the MI and acquire Emma's room key.

You just woke up. Everyone else is still asleep. What do you do?

I suggest a strong illusion over our features. Tan our skin to the level of a Seelie elf, change our eye color, pad our bosom and flair our hips a little. Rearrange our face too, accentuate the cheekbones. This needs to be our public mask for this operation. We can't afford to have anyone recognize us. 2 secret identities, The Ghost, The Looker, and just plain Nona most of the time.

You get Jack's old magical first aid book. You figure that it never hurts to have more people who know how to fix someone up. Unlike with enchanting or illusion, though, you find the text almost impenetrable. With effort you can wrap your mind around the concepts being presented, but it's hard. You sing a little song under your breath, something gentle and not too disruptive towards the other people sleeping.

After a bit of this, Millie wakes up, picking herself up off the couch and walking towards the kitchen. She greets you with a grunt as you go past. You hear her getting started on a pot of coffee behind you.

What do you do?
>>
>>22936637
MP said that they would be able to tell it was an illusion, not that they'd be able to see through it. If they ask, just say that we know most dwarves, orcs, and humans prefer larger breasts and we tailor our appearance to bring better tips.

"Good morning, Millie. Hope you slept well. What do you think of our upcoming operation?"

>>
"Good morning, Millie," you say. She just grunts again, still working on producing coffee. You smirk. "I hope you slept well. What do you think of the upcoming operation?"

"You're the weak point," she says. "Of the next step, that is. Rory's getting intel, we're preparing here, you're the one in the most prominent position to fuck up and botch the operation or yet yourself hurt. You need to be careful with this next part."

"Yeah, you're probably right," you admit. You hadn't considered how you, more than anyone else, could inadvertently ruin the rescue in the next stage. That's a lot of responsibility. "Do you have any advice?"

"Yeah," she says. You can hear the coffee machine starting to heat up and brew. "Be meticulous. Don't leave room for error and only play your hand when you've already stacked the deck. Rushing won't help anyone if you don't already have everything covered."

You guess that's pretty good advice.

What do you do?

>>22937283

I'm sure she's taking it too seriously. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Worst case, we turn evil so hard that they will have to nuke the whole city.

Ahem. Seconding >>22937355

We need an outfit that will make Nona look good without compromising her movements to much. I suppose high heels are a must, sadly.
>>
"Could you take me shopping?" you ask Millie. "I don't really know the city and, of all of us, you're probably the one who can give me the best clothing advice."

"Yeah, sure," says Millie. "What are you going to try to get?"

"Something that will help me with the whole performer angle. Some kind of slinky dress, heels, that sort of thing. Maybe a few spare outfits to wear while first trying to get the job too."

"Yeah, I can help you out with that. You don't have the figure to wear normal clothes - dwarven clothes, that is. We'll have to go to some kind of fae clothing shop, or maybe somewhere for pubescent humans. That or go to a tailor and get something custom-fitted. We need to keep an eye on our cash, though. Clothes like this can get expensive, and I don't know if we should go fencing off these guns just yet. What do you think?"

What do you think?
>>
>>22937678
In the previous thread, MP said that bards are trained in walking in heels and stilts, among other things. As long we we don't get really tall heels - or, god forbid, stilettos or something - I bet Nona will have the training sufficient to fucking run in them.
>>
>>22937701
"We still have the cash from the flophouse, we're okay on money, a couple dresses, a bit of jewelry, and shoes, shouldn't run us too much. I'd rather not fence the guns, it brings up too many awkward questions. Also, I should probably disguise myself when going on and buying clothes, just to be safe."

Then find a fae clothing shop and get dolled up.
>>
>>22937701
"You're right. The guns are. And, to be honest, I'd rather deprive the Blackmountains of the guns. That's more important. If we bury them or keep them locked up somewhere, there's no way they'll be re-bought and used against us later. And it'll force the Blackmountains to buy newer guns, which we'll then take from them, et cetera et cetera. It'll be a boon for the weapon industry, at least, and drain their coffers faster. Besides, just because we're not using them NOW doesn't mean we won't find a use for them later. A wise man once said, 'Tis better to have and not need than to need and not have'."

"As for the cash, we still have a sizable sum left, I think, but we don't want ti to get around that we're spending much. That's why I used an illusion over ourselves when we bought Jack that book. Don't want to become a target or draw attention. Anonymity is our best defense."

"I'd say two or three middle-price-range dresses should be enough for now. My mostly-honest backstory is that I'm a young bard just starting out. Nobody would expect me to have anything extravagant, so I won't have it. Do we have a small pistol in the loot? Like a derringer? I don't want to go in unarmed, but I can't carry heavy firepower or anything expensive and maintain my cover."
>>
I haven't read much of this quest, but I do have a suggestion for you, MonkeyPaw.

>You were a 30 year old awkward lonely overweight virgin neckbeard who lived in his mother's basement

Is that sentence really necessary at this point? You could just say 30yrold loner. All the qualifiers are just silly, I think.
>>
>>22937718

>>
"You're right, the guns are too hot," you agree. "Plus, they would probably just end up back in Blackmountain hands, and I would rather deprive them of that."

"Exactly," confirms Millie.

"As for the cash, we still have most of it left," you say.

"True, but you burned over a thousand crowns on that book for Jack alone, and we don't know how much more we'll need to spend later."

"Okay, that's fair. So, spend in moderation, and ideally don't spread it around that we're the ones spending it. I'm thinking two or three decent dresses - nothing too extravagant - for now. My mostly-honest backstory is that I'm a young musician fresh to the city and just starting out, so that should be enough."

You think for a moment.

"Do we have a holdout pistol in the loot? Like a derringer or something. I would prefer not to go unarmed, but I need something concealable, and something that won't draw too much suspicion if it is discovered."

"We don't," says Millie, furrowing her brow. "You're right, though, you do need something. Your best bet would probably be some kind of hyper-compact wand pistol - a cheap one that can only hold one or two charges at a time. Those usually come with silent shots."

"Could we look for one of those too while we're shopping?"

"Sure. I have a couple ideas where we might be able to find something like that. I can leave whenever you want, as long as you let me eat and take a shower first."

What do you do now?

Wait for her to get ready.

In the meantime, contemplate what you have learned so far.

Let her get ready and then we can go SHOPPING. Can't think of much to do while waiting, just play a few tunes and think about MIs.
>>
>>22939168
>maybe write a note for Jack and Vararia, so they don't freak when they wake up
>>
You wait for Millie to get ready, reviewing your notes on MIs in your enchanting book for about an hour. When she's finally ready, by which time Varaia is awake and making herself some food, the two of you set out into the city for your shopping trip. Millie explains that she wants to take you shopping for your holdout pistol so that you can make sure that whatever dresses you get properly conceal it.

You go through a few rather shady locations - old warehouses, back alleyways, basements of pawn shops, and so on - before you find a man dealing firearms out of a carriage. He has three different holdout pistols for sale. The first is a traditional firearms, a little two-barreled .22 derringer. The second is a hyper-compact on-shot wand pistol that packs enough punch to kill a man if you hit the head or a vital organ or at least wound him if you don't. The last is a ten-shot mage pistol with the stopping power of a full-sized one. They cost 100, 500, and 1500 crowns, respectively.

What do you go for?
>>
>>22939649
>ten-shot mage pisto

>>
>>22939649

The derringer is capable of punching through an armor? The single-use wand seems do or die kind of deal, and requires good aim... Is the most expensive option any larger than the rest?
>>
>>22939649
how much cash do we have again?
>>

>>22939825
this.
>>
>>22939825
>you have about six grand left
>and you, Varaia, and Jack are supposedly still owed 200 crowns apiece from the cargo company, plus maybe hazard pay
>>
>>22940266

Unless the most expensive gun carries penalties to going undetected, I vote for that one. If we want to be stingy, better do that on the wardrobe. We don't want them to employ us for other services than music, after all.
>>
>>22940342
>>22939729
yes, lets get the good one.
>>
You decide to go for the best. After all, you don't want to end up as one of the prostitutes, or worse. You fork over the cash, and also get a holster made for a gun that size, designed to hold the gun against the upper inside of your thigh. It's disguised as a simple garter. You're about to thank the dealer, but he just takes your money, closes up shop, and drives off. You figure it's a bad idea in his business to stay in one place too long.

"Okay, we have your gun and, more importantly, your holster. Now, where do you want to look first, a fae clothing store, or a store for pubescent humans? We could also go to an actual tailor, I suppose, but with how much you just spent on that gun, I doubt you want to go for that."

What's your response?
>>
>>22940734

>>
You decide to head to the fae shop - in large part because you honestly hope that the store catering to pubescent humans doesn't have anything sexy enough for your plans. The shop Millie has in mind is in the main hall, a few layers up - not one of the expensive main street boutiques, but close to it. She suggests you two take a tube to get there, which you agree to - a decision you don't regret in the slightest.

The tubes, in Mild, are actual huge, copper and glass pneumatic tubes loaded up with passenger and cargo trains. Most of them run in the space between layers - in the ceilings or the floor, depending on your perspective. A few, though - the ones that go between layers quickly - coil up in wide spirals from floor to ceiling. You get in with Millie, brace yourself, and then, after the sudden jerk of acceleration from the launch, find yourself pleasantly surprised by how smooth it is.

The tube drops you off close to the boutique you were headed for, and you and Millie walk the few blocks needed. You soak in how much more pleasant and classy this layer is from the one you had been in. When you get to the store, you're greeted by a building of rich dark wood, brass accents, and carefully etched glass - it's a nice place. You head on inside and see that rather than dummies, they have actual Sidhe men and women standing around in the clothes, posing.

And you see that one of those models is Aliade, who looks shocked to see you.

What do you do?
>>
>>22941635
"It's good to see you again, why do we keep on running into each other like this?

So, any chance you could suggest some nice clothing for me Aliade? Classy, but still hot."
>>

Also >>22941695 since being a model he hopefully knows a thing or two about what might suit us best.

Should we get someplace private, ask him if he doesn't find this line of work, well, slightly demeaning to a bard of his skill.

Or maybe he IS shadowing us somehow. Elf spy/diviner/bard combo?

>>
He's a spy, I say.

Still this doesn't rule out another bard duel.
>>
>>22942110

I doubt he's a spy. He seems genuinely surprised every time, and the places we find them in don't give the impression either.

I say we should try and enlist him for the Cause. A Seelie/Unseelie bard duo sounds much more spectacular an attraction than a single elf girl, not to mention an extra pair of hands in a fight could come in handy.
>>
>>22942709

He seems regularly sketchy, though, I don't know if we should trust him with a place in this risky of an operation.
>>
"We need to stop meeting like this," you comment to him, heading on in to start looking at the clothes.

"You know him?" asks Millie. "Isn't he Seelie?"

"He seems mostly harmless," you say.

"Wait!" he says. He hops down off his pedestal after you. "Listen, seriously, are you following me or something?"

"No," you respond. "But I'm starting to reconsider how many coincidences I can believe. Are you spying on me?"

"No! Come on, I'm just trying to earn enough money to book an airship to Seelie. I'm, uh, not in the mood to go by sea again. Now, seriously, what are you doing here?"

"Looking for some dresses."

"Some dresses."

"Yup. Some dresses. Are you going to help me find some, then?"

He sighs and leans against a clothing rack. He's wearing a crisp button-up shirt with a brown pinstripe waistcoat and matching slacks and fedora. He looks like he belongs in the 1920's. "Yeah, sure. What, exactly, are you in the market for?"

What are you in the market for? Or what do you tell him, at any rate?

You go for the little black dress. After all, it's versatile, looks nice, and it's probably something that you'll need to have in your wardrobe at some point or another anyway. Plus, it's just sleek enough to really work for the challenge.

"Make sure you list me for commission," Aliade says as he walks you to the register, your dress over your arm. "That really helps me out. Also, no offense, but please, please, please keep me out of whatever you're doing. I don't want to have a sequel of that debacle that went on with the deep ones."

"Oh, really?" you ask, feigning great disappointment. "I was hoping you could be my partner in extremely dangerous bardic duets in the coming days."

Aliade actually visibly shudders when you say that.

"Feel free to come back and buy more clothes so that I can get a commission. Otherwise, I would prefer to avoid you."

"Fair enough. Going to get back up on your stand now?"

"Yes. Yes, I am," he says, strutting back off the way he came.

You pay for the dress, and you and Millie walk out front.

What do you do?

You head back to the warehouse, taking the tube back down. When you get back to the warehouse, Jack is reading again, and Varaia is back in the goggles. Jack disengages from his book to ask, "So, what did you get?"

"Little black dress," you respond, holding it out for him to look at.

"Try it on for us," suggests Varaia. "After all, we don't have much to do until Rory comes back with information, right?"

You shrug and head off to the bathroom to change. You also put your hair up and use some simple utility magic to colour your lips and eyelids - magic makeup, basically. You come back out, turn around to show off your look, and wait for feedback.

"You look great," says Jack, earnestly.

"You should fix up your hair in the back," says Varaia when she gets a good look at you. You hadn't been able to make it as good in the back as you had in the front. "Aside from that, the look should work."

Everyone goes back to working on their various readings and projects after that, trying to keep busy while they waited for Rory to be back with intelligence.

Never really been on a Quest thread during Saturday, so I wasn't sure. But I do think that interest has gone down quite a bit since the beginning.

I also think that OP should try to post some sort of feedback thread for Fantasy Quest.

Example:
>"Hi, /tg/! I'm the guy who runs Fantasy Quest. What do you guys like and what do you hate about it?"
>>
You sit down and get talking to Millie about how hacking is done via artifice.

"So, I wanted to talk about how you hack things," you say. "I mean, I know how I would. Enchantment magic - going straight in and altering its mind directly. How do you do it, though?"

"Well, I mostly mess with inputs and outputs to try to make it act in a way I want or to produce something I want. Make it think I'm an authorized user, make it think someone else isn't, make it blind to a specific function I'm messing with, that kind of thing. I usually plug in with some kind of magical tool and try to be as quiet and subtle about it as possible. It's not quite as effective as your enchantment magic, but it's a lot less likely to leave a trace and a lot less likely to trigger a failsafe."

"Ah. So it would probably be better to let you do the hacking if possible?"

"If possible? Yeah. I mean, no offense intended. Enchanting is really effective, but it's very brute force for this kind of thing. Hacking isn't really your specialty - you have a tool for the trade, but not necessarily the right tool. Do you know what I mean?"

"Yeah, I think I understand. So, if I do actually need to hack something - like if I get a really good shot while infiltrating - should I be careful and subtle, or embrace the brute force?"

"That depends on whether or not you think there's a failsafe, really. Keep your eyes open and think on your feet. That's my advice."

What do you do now?

>three reasons
>it's Saturday, so people are actually doing things
>it's Super Bowl weekend, so people are actually doings things
>I've been especially slow today, so people are actually doing things

>if the quest thread ever actually does drop below critical player density, though, like it almost did in the middle, I'll probably start a new quest with a new name and trip
>I have lots of other ideas for premises aside from 'NEET dropped into fantasy land as something new'

Try playing some truly beautiful music somewhere where the manager will be going by. If you use spellsong, it will make him want to come to you, and you'll get the job.

These people would probably have a failsafe, and a failsafe for that failsafe.

Can't think of anything else to do while waiting for Rory, so cuddle up with Varaia and Jack, get some hugs and maybe a bit of casual ear rubbing while we wait, maybe take a nap on his chest.

That's part of the info that Rory has, I think, and we should keep him in the loop before we go off and do something like that.

You decide that now is as good of a time as any to try to start dealing with Stonehammer, while you're waiting for Rory to come back with information on the brothel. You tell your friends as much.

"That's a bad idea," says Jack. "At least let me come with you."

"And risk blowing your cover in front of one of the few people who knows about you?" you ask. "Not a chance."

"I'll follow a ways behind," says Varaia. "I'll be there if she gets in over her head."

"Fine," says Jack after a moment of thought. "I don't like this, though." You give him a kiss on the forehead to sooth him, then head out. You assume Varaia follows shortly thereafter, but you would be lying if you said you could detect her. It takes you about fifteen minutes of brisk walking to get to the Dragon's Breath Pub. It's an old place, mostly carved into a solid stone cave wall, with wooden shutters and doors, a gas lamp glowing outside.

You're about to head inside when you're suddenly slammed up against the wall by someone. You can't move your arms to reach your gun.

"I'm delivering a message from the Unseelie Court," a low, sultry voice whispers in your ear. "Queen Mab will be giving you a task soon. Do it or die. Do not try to follow or attack me - Varaia is somewhere between here and the warehouse unconscious and bleeding. You won't make it to her in time if you waste energy on me."

Then you're let go, and you see an Unseelie woman with short, dark hair walking off.
