>inb4 “hurr another grimderp lesbian magical girl quest durr”
>You’re playing as a male, the war’s going well, and things are looking up in Gensokyo. Please read the OP before posting.

Three years. You’ve been doing the same shit for three years. You’ve survived the apocalypse for three years. An apocalypse that had been brought on simply because Yukari had refused to relinquish Eirin, Kaguya, and their cronies back to the Lunarians, also known as the “Moonbitches” affectionately nicknamed by the remaining scraps of human resistance fighters early on in the war.

Well, it was looking less apocalypse-y nowadays. The Outside World has been steadily rebuilding itself, even through the torrents of high velocity plasma that rained down on a regular basis. In fact, several cities have been rebuilt in nearly their original glory. Hell, even the Forest seemed livelier than it did before the war.

While the Lunarians had curbstomped the collective military might of the Outside World within the day that they had landed, they were having a considerable amount of trouble here in Gensokyo, from having to slog through lightning fast crow tengu blitzkriegs, organized wolf tengu onslaughts, earth sundering danmaku bombardments from magicians, to watching friends and comrades get shredded and eaten alive by feral youkai. It’s clear that you have the advantage.

No doubt the Outside technology had helped a great deal in the defense of Gensokyo also, as did the modernizations conducted by the Moriya Shrine and the kappa.

It would have been like the Vietnam War, only the Vietcong and NVA were replaced by little girls in frilly dresses and silly looking hats, accompanied by men and women dressed more practically, but no less of a threat to the Lunarian invaders.

You’re one of these men and women. You've stopped caring why the Lunarians are here.

Your thirst for violence will be quenched soon, now, lets focus on finishing your meal. You’re interrupted from digging into your breakfast noodles by someone clearing their throat. You quickly discover the source of the sound.

Lieutenant General Kanako Yasaka.

Your food almost flies out of your mouth as you bolt to attention. Your hand snaps to your forehead. She returns the salute, albeit in a more crisp manner, she pushes you back onto the bench and places her finger over her lips, shushing you. She glances around, as if to check for spies. You’re on Youkai Mountain, aren’t you? There’s no way a spy could get past the white wolves, and live to tell the tale.

“Men like you have been few and far between since the start of the war. Which is why you’re being reassigned, I’ve noticed your talents, and feel that they’re wasted doing grunt work. You’re going into the Covert Actions Group. I’m letting you operate with a degree of freedom, you’ll select your squad, and your weapons. Any questions?”

>Any questions?

She hands you a slip of paper, adorned with various symbols, it’s a SkeletonKey, a guide on what symbols mean what. Except SkeletonKeys are usually computerized. You pass it off as for security reasons. She rises, and motions for you to do the same, and whispers “Play along.”

“Is that understood, Lieutenant?!”

“Yes ma’am, won’t happen again, ma’am!” With a crisp nod, she leaves.

I am having WAY too much fun with this. But yeah, that seems like perfect characterisation to me!
>>
You examine the slip of paper. You notice that Cirno's symbol is not on here.

Unacceptable. How dare they not include the strongest of Gensokyo. The only reason the war hasn't been won yet is because of Great Leader Cirno's restraint.

You ignore the transgression. For now. You recognize many of the symbols. The house looking thing must be the Scarlet Devil Mansion, the other house looking thing must be Hakugyokurou, and so on and so forth.

You'd guess this is how General Yasaka wants you to pick your squad.

[x] SDM
[x] Hakugyokurou
[x] Bamboo Forest
[x] Forest of Magic
[x] Mayohiga
[x] Heaven

>>
>>22935854
How many slots do we have to fill? I wonder if we'll get main characters in the squad? Eh, probably not. Either way, I'm throwing my vote for the Scarlet Devil Mansion! No-where else in Gensokyo will you find such a disciplined and elite fighting force of fairy face-fisters! And if we're lucky, we can bring that gate-guard along for the ride! She's pretty much an honorary fairy anyway!
>>

[x] Forest of Magic. Dolls, kleptomanics, fairies and shopkeeps.

shopkeeps, man.

You circle your selections, one of them being Meiling, not a strong as grand leader Cirno, but you’ve met few people who could punch a certain black-white back into the Forest of Magic. She would make an excellent addition to the team.

The next it Nitori, irritatingly enthusiastic about her gadgets, but intelligent to a ridiculous degree. Also has no idea what the words noise discipline mean. She’s handy in case you need to make something asplode real quickly.

Your final selection is Komachi, whoyoutotallydidn’tchoosebecauseofherchest. Right. Anyways. She’s a shinigami, isn’t she? Logically speaking, no one’s better at making things dead than a death god, right? Right.

You dump the food into the trash and head to General Yasaka’s office, and present the SkeletonKey to her. She seems to nod in approval of your choices.

“A versatile team.” She closes the door, and locks all three of the bolts.

“Though not all of them are in the most...ideal of situations to be joining your team. The Mansion has been raided many times, and I suspect another’s coming soon. There’s a similar situation outside of Higan, though the shinigami are fighting with their backs to a wall. Nitori should be finishing up some new toys. She also has your gear. It’s your choice of who you want to go for first. Dismissed.”

.cont.
>>
>>22936647
You head for the kappa’s garage. It’s loud. Almost as loud as combat. You duck under a few thrown power tools. You’ve almost been incinerated by a jet engine at least three times. You slog through the miasma of bluehaired engineers and equipment, to find Nitori, apparently busy working on some kind of giant, walking tank.

You want one.

You tap her on the shoulder, and she almost hits you in the face with a blowtorch. She raises her welding mask, and gives you a massive grin.

“Oh hey! It’s you! You were so much smaller when I first met you, it was kinda cute! Anyways, your gear’s in here, I made a few mods to your equipment.” She grabs your arm and skips to the locker rooms.

Cirno has clearly blessed you.

The locker is lined with all sorts of assault rifles, combat shotguns, anti materiel rifles, and things that you can’t even spell correctly. You tell Nitori that she’s been selected into your team, and she grabs her own equipment.

>What weapons do you take?
>Do you go to Higan first, or the SDM?
>>
>>22936647
LOCK AND LOAD boy and girls (no, that's not a typo). Looks like we'll have to link up with Nitori first, then smash through the Lunarian lines at Higan. With luck and high explosives, our assault should tear the Lunarian lines a new asshole and allow the shinigami to push out! General Yamaxanadu's going to have a field day! Luckily, the Sanzu River provides them with an excellent defensive line, so they should be in perfect condition to push out! After that, we can head to the mansion to shore up defences there, freeing Meiling to come with us, without weakening the line too badly.

Or we head for the mansion before the Battle of the Sanzu River. An assault specialist would probably be very useful in such circumstances... Who wants to go where first?
>>
>>22936790

The answer is simple.

A fully automatic grenade launcher.

Loaded as follows, by belt: 1 HE, 1 Thermite, 1 Napalm, 1 Flashbang, 1 Fragmentation, repeat.

From there, HIGAN. We will BREAK THIS SIEGE WITH OUR TACTICAL GENIUSNESS.
>>
>>22936790
An automatic grenade launcher with HE and WP grenades. Also a dozen flashbangs.
Then we go to Higan to pick up Komachi.
>>
>>22936821
Let's not go TOO overboard. First, we need to know what kind of equipment we can expect Nitori to be packing, then consider the loadouts of the other members of Fireteam Inferno.

Also, what kind of gear we talking about here? Because if we have access to a laser rifle and plasma bomb launchers from the Kappa arsenal, a grenade launcher's a bit under-powered.
>>
>>22936821

Oh, and some bandoliers of regular throwing grenades. And some body armor would be smart to have!

Once we have this and our TACTICAL GENIUSNESS, we will be PREPARED FOR SIEGE BREAKING!

(also we should tell Nitori that, like, we think we're still kinda cute! And she is to! WE ARE THE CUTEST SMARTEST SECOND-STRONGEST TEAM!)

EXPLOSIONS EVERYWHERE

(tactical knowledge is increased in proximity to massive amounts of explosives!)
>>
>>22936938
At least Meiling's an honorary fairy. Hell, they keep up with us and we'll make them all honorary fairies! They should be proud!

>>22936790
>>22936922
In that case...
1: Most light-weight machine gun we can get out hands on. Something with at LEAST a 60-round mag and a RoF of 180RPM. Incendiary rounds, obviously, but also pack some spell-shield breakers and FMJ rounds for hardened targets.
2: Collapse-able or at least folding-stock grenade launcher with a drum magazine and a mix of high-explosive and fragmenting-incendiary rounds.
3: Maybe some light armour? It never hurts. For the most part though, our armour is FAIRY WILLPOWER!
4: Tell Nitroi to bring some mobile artillery platforms or something. We'll pack a laser-designator and HUD visor to allow us to call it in for especially hard targets. Failing that... Micro-rocket launcher.

We mustn't forget our own abilities! Guns are all well and good, but next to FAIRY GUTS AND SPIRIT, they're second-fiddle! Once you pass a certain level of power, guns are next to worthless. There's a reason the likes of Reimu, Okuu and Marisa don't use them.

>also we should tell Nitori that, like, we think we're still kinda cute! And she is to! WE ARE THE CUTEST SMARTEST SECOND-STRONGEST TEAM!

Yes, we should also say this.
>>
Back, I think a full auto grenade launcher would break your arms, but I like grenade launchers.
>>
>>22937253

If we've got mass-effect levels of tech, the grenades are probably miniaturized enough (and magnetic acceleration has minimal recoil). The biggest bitch will be the potential for misfire, more than likely.
>>
>>22937290
Yeah, but I think a full auto grenade launcher is a bit much.

The locker Nitori's shown you is a veritable goldmine of ordnance. You count at least three high powered marksmen rifles, an automatic shotgun, a pair of grenade launchers, four light machine guns, and even a minigun (must be mounted to use)
>>
>>22937290
Thankfully, grenade launchers have inbuilt triggers which make it so the grenade has to fly so far before it becomes primed.
>>
>>22937367

Then we'll nab the pair of grenade launchers. If we cannot have a fully automatic one, we'll have a main one and a backup one.

Or dual-wield. With fairy magic alongside.

basically what I'm getting at is our danmaku patterns are going to be made of massive explosions.
>>
Alright, grenade launcher(s), and body armor it is, any sidearms?
>>
>>22937453

FAIRY MAGIC.

And we should grab a pistol, too, I suppose. Something light, slim, and useful.

If we wanted to go full tactical here I'd also suggest a knife or hatchet. Something like a bowie knife or K-BAR would be perfect.
>>
>>22937453
A PDW, like an MP7 or a TMP.
>>
>>22937407
We can already fling fire and heat every-which-way! When you've got power like that actually, let's think about the tactical niche guns would fill.
a) Open up with firearms. The expenditure of 'disposable' firepower is designed to soften up your opponent and allow you to eliminate her easier, after she's already had to defend from your conventional barrage, after which, the REAL fight begins.
> Tactical assessment: Rapid-fire weapons or high-explosives. LMGs, grenade and rocket launchers, etc.
b) Guns are used as a force-multiplier by weak troops and as a way for stronger troops to eliminate the weaker without wasting their strength.
>Tactical assessment: Versatile weapons that can adapt to many different situations. Assault rifles mainly with other specialised weapons, like a grenade launcher or shotgun.

Honestly, I think the latter is more likely as the Lunarian's doctrine, as the Moon Rabbits have been seen training with bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles, as well as bayonet drill.

For us, I vote the first approach. Something rapid-fire to spew a ton of bullets, with a few explosives on the side. We'll run out of ammo eventually, but we're supposed to be a hit-hard-hit-fast-ask-questions-later type squad anyway. This'll allow us to tear through the small fry, blitz higher-grade enemies and then discard our weapons in favour of magic.
>>
>sage for addendum
>>22937564
I doubt guns would do much more to magical beings like Lunarians, or Gensokians than put them out of action for a day or two anyway. Magic's where the real fighting is done. Outside Humans are the only ones who'd use guns as a mainstay weapon, which is likely why they get their ass kicked so hard. Everyone knows a REAL fight is decided with MAGIC AND LASERS!

Hey OP? I've suddenly got this image of the Outsiders having a small corps of mecha with lasers and other advanced technology as a last line of defence for their cities. Please say this is so! I honestly can't see guns, tanks and artillery doing much more to Lunarians than making them decide, "Oh forget this; it's not worth the hassle," and convincing them to disengage. A fighting mecha on the other hand is the kind of thing they'd actually deign to fight on the 'unworthy earth' and thus, the kind of thing that can actually win a tactical victory.

For the uninitiated: The Lunarians are MASSIVELY arrogant. They refuse even to walk on the Earth, as it's unworthy of them. It'd take something pretty impressive to make them leave out of anything other than boredom.

You take a grenade launcher, it has quite a bit of heft to it. All the better to use as a bludgeon, if a Lunarian decides to get uncomfortably close. Regardless, it’s good for making Moonbitches wish they had invaded a different planet.

“Ah! Good choice! It’s magnetically accelerated, so you can still hurt people, even if it doesn’t explode! And if it lodges itself in personal armor, it’ll make it rain bloody bits for weeks!” You’re a little unnerved by her enthusiastic tone while describing something that turns people into a thin soup. You take a few additional grenades, high explosive, thermite, napalm, flashbangs, and good ole’ frags. You take a few throwing grenades too, it’s bad form for an assault specialist to be caught without them! You also take a small, SMG, just in case, as well as a monomolecular knife, just in case.

Nitori’s packing an assault shotgun, and looks about ready to take on the whole Lunarian army by herself.

The transport ride there is relatively dull, but that’s about to change, really soon. Lunarian plasma is never dull. Nitori’s awoken by the thump of the transport landing behind the shinigami lines. You check your triple check your gear, and head out.

>TACTICAL GENIUS TIEM! WHAT DO YOU DO?
>>
>>22937852
Find shinigami, link up with Komachi, kill Lunar bitches.

But seriously, we need to find the shinigami and learn what the tactical situation is like here.
Does Nitori have any comm gear that she can use to contact the shinigami?
>>
>>22937852

First: Immediately glance around, we need to get an eye on the status of the shinigami lines and the offending moonbitches.

Second: Link to the local commander. Chain of command is important and we might miss something on our initial assessment, SMARTESTEST or no! After all, the most intelligent know to listen to the advice of others!

Third: Progress from there.
>>
>>22937852
Head for cover and survey the Lunarian lines. We'll hit them from the rear, drive through to the Sanzu river, send up a flare and signal the shinigami to cross while our attack has the lunarians disrupted.

OP, what kind of numbers are typically in a battle here? Touhou's tone and setting makes me think it'd be a matter of a few dozen, maybe a hundred Moon Rabbit soldiers in any given army group. Or are we going by the kind of size Outsiders would consider a proper army, so thousands or more?

This is important. A smaller army, as dictated by Touhou's usual tone, would mean a full-scale attack is viable, especially with shinigami re-enforcements so close! But if it's ten thousand or so Moon Rabbits in a a given location, we really can't do this flashily.
>>
>>22937902

>Does Nitori have any comm gear that she can use to contact the shinigami?

Yeah, you've got headsets, and your behind allied lines.
>>
>>22937927
About fifteen hundred Lunar troops are here, half of the force had been picked off by the crows and wolves, who may still be in the area.

There are about three hundred shinigami who are combat effective.
>>
>>22937955
Also forgot my trip
>>
>>22937955
Well damn. That's too many to actually attack, power level discrepancy or no. I was working under the assumption that Lunarians and Gensokians don't have great numbers, but their magic makes them easily equal to ten times their number in Outside troops. This kind of scale though kind of makes me re-consider...

This is feeling less and less like Touhou and more like some kind of modern military FPS, only with girls in frilly dresses, the more I read...
>>
>>22937930
Get Nitori to contact the local shinigami commander so that we can find out the situation and link up with allied forces.
>>
>>22938034
Well, it's Moon Rabbits were talking here, not exactly the most magically inclined. A real Lunarian force would be probably around two hundred men, plus magic.
>>
You have Nitori get you into contact whoever’s in charge. Oddly, it’s Komachi, it looks like she hasn’t slept in days. Which is also odd, very few things could make Komachi miss a nap, and you doubt that a Moon Rabbit force is one of them.

“Oh, reinforcements. I kinda thought you’d be taller. You probably want a report on whats goin’ on, huh? Well, things ain’t lookin’ good, but things aren’t exactly lookin’ bad either. The good thing is, they didn’t bring any Lunarians, and only sent a buncha rabbits. But there’s a lot of ‘em.” She yawns, and continues

“We’re handlin’ ‘em well, but they aren’t exactly keen on leavin’. We just kinda need to break through, and then we’ll be golden. Should I come help?” Komachi yawns again, and doesn’t seem to want to do anything but collapse in a bed.

>What do?
>>
>>22938070
'Not exactly the most magically inclined' is still measured by Lunarian standards. By Outsider standards, they're terrifyingly powerful creatures for whom even 6.1-inch artillery fire is only 'painful' and who have centuries of combat experience and that carry semi-automatic, WW2-looking rifles that can take down even MBTs with sustained fire! Even by Gensokian standards, they're pretty hardcore, about the equal of crow or wolf tengu in a straight fight.

Still, that sounds more reasonable. And hey, we're a named character! That easily means we can take at least a few hundred mooks at this level! (Seriously, this is actually enforced by Touhou canon. God I love this setting).

Contact General Yamaxanadu and tell her to get ready to counter-attack, then charge! Make them go running home with their ears drooping and crying that they don't want to fight any more!

>assuming that as this is Touhou, things are still fairly harmless, even with guns around... Going to be a hell of a shock if we ever see outside. For Gensokians and Lunarians, war's not such a big deal, though certainly not nice. For Outsiders, it's a matter of life and death!

Death gods rate higher than Moon Rabbits and Tengu in the order of things and with named characters like us on the field, things shouldn't get TOO hairy...

You nod, and decide to have Komachi sit this one out. Like Cirno says, you can’t be strong when you’re tired! You’re sure that Nitori has all kinds of cool gizmos that she doesn't want you to break in that bag. And sure enough, she pulls the minigun out of her backpack. It’s easily larger than she is, how did she fit that in there? She gives you a crazed smile that could scare even the likes of the Great Leader. You have her set up on side of the main road, behind the trees. It’ll shred anyone who even thinks of making a push into the Sanzu.

You, on the other hand, take to the skies, the silly rabbits apparently forgot that Gensokyians could fly.

Sure enough, they’re starting to push up the main road. Ha! They think they can use the trees for aerial cover? You don’t think so. Gouts of flame erupt from your off hand, turning the forest into a raging inferno. The shinigami seem to be in awe of your tactical genius, and take the oppertunity to charge the rabbits, cutting them off as they try to flee. You hear Nitori laughing as her minigun cuts the rabbits attempting to flee down. You load fraggies, and bombard their positions.

Such a paltry attempt of an attack is nothing in the face of your TACTICAL GENIUS!

You capitalize on your momentum, and continue on to the Lunarian position. You've taken a few anti aircraft bullets, but luckily, they've only done minor damage.

Blast it! You don't want to give up the air support, but you can't find the damn anti-air guns! What would Cirno do?

Dohohoho. You have a clever thought, nobody would bother to shoot a fairy when they have an arguably more dangerous shinigami at their throat. Why don’t you take advantage of this? You drop like a rock into the melee, and duck and dodge swinging scythes, rifle butts, and bayonets. And soon enough, you spy a bunker, with a bunch of bits that look like they could easily break. Just like that one stupid looking gold cup Marisa had that you broke! The Holy something or other. Ahem. Anyways, it looks delicate, and important. And you don’t want to draw unnecessary attention to yourself. You activee your visor’s laser thingy, and look at the bunker, while calling Nitori.

“Ah! You want some mortars? Sure thing! One mortar barrage, coming right up!” Now, this next part suprises you. You were fine with Nitori somehow shoving a minigun into her pack, but she’s also got a mortar launcher there as well, as well as a good fifteen mortars, that she just shot off. It demolishes the bunker quickly.

You are broken out of your reverie by a rifle butt to the face. How dare they! Her ears look stupid, too! You fumble for your combat knife

You sidestep her next attempt at smacking you in the face. You hold your knife with a reverse grip. You keep a ball of fire in the other hand, in case things go south for you. Which is unlikely. Ha! Stupid rabbit doesn’t even know to use a combat knife. Oh wait. There it is, it’s kinda cool looking and flashy, and it ejects from her wrist. No matter! Your skill will carry the day! She lunges at you, nearly diggin the tip of her flashy knife into your skull. That would have hurt. You to the left, and before she can turn to meet you, you’ve brought your knife into the bottom of her head.

Victory! Wait, she isn’t going down. Why isn’t she going down? Uh oh, panicpanicpanic. You let loose several bursts of flame from your hand into the Moon Rabbit.

Things turned out okay. Phew!

You survey the battlefield. The rabbits are turning tail! Pun intended. Right into the waiting jaws and talons of the crows and wolves.

Victory is yours!

No offence OP, but I'm out.
It's nothing personal, but I just feel like this quest lacks the degree and depth of description and feeling that I was hoping for. It's no ill comment against you, but I feel you might want to look at expanding what you write, in terms of descriptions.

Further, I've never liked to mix Touhou and the grim viscera of hand-to-hand combat. Without a good description to allay the feedback and feelings of combat, the way you describe it feels by turns flat and vicious. Touhou, to me, is a setting which should be taken lightheartedly. Hand-to-hand combat and bursts of fire are fair enough, especially if the fire's not shown to have lasting effects (lol magic I don't have to explain shit), but jamming a knife into the underside of someone's skull? No thanks! Not in my Gensokyo! I'm out.

Again, sorry to just leave like this, I wish you the best of luck, but this isn't for me.

Lunarians have bullshit advanced technology that involves manipulation of instances and, unlike the outside world, they still retain spiritual strength and knowledge. Currently none, but you can make a few back at base.

To the victor, goes the spoils, you see bunches of shinigami taking trophies of war as well. You take a look at her laser knife thing. It’s kinda cool, looks even cooler, clearly it is only fit for strong people, which is why you must take it. You decide not to mess around with it too much, but it apparently ejects with the push of a button. Moonbitches get cool toys, that could easily match Nitori’s cool toys. The rabbit’s got a pretty nifty looking jacket, too. Only The Strongest and her friends are allowed to have nifty things. It’s a little big for you, but, it looks nifty, so it’s okay. You also take her gun. You have no clue how it works, but maybe Nitori could cook something up later on.

You meet Komachi back at the Sanzu River, and she smiles at you and ruffles your hair. Unacceptable! Nobody ruffles your hair except for Cirno!

“You did a nice job out there, kid.” Heh. you thank her, and tell her that she’s been selected for your super cool team. She gives you a hearty laugh, and says she’s honored, as she should be.

>Realism
>Setting involving little girls in fancy hats and frilly dresses firing lasers the colour of love at each other
Pick one.

I'm not saying Touhou can't be 'serious', but I don't think it can ever be 'realistic'. Likewise, fights between magical beings rarely result in death or severe and crippling injury, from what I've seen of the canon and fanon. Outside Humans are another matter, but for the most part, fights with magic just result in a KO, one of the fighters giving up when they admit they're out-classed, or some embarrassing act that leaves one of the combatants unwilling to continue, such as losing one's underwear in mid-flight.

There's nothing stopping the setting, as I said, from being serious, from dealing with darker or more sombre topics, but you simply can't mesh realism and Touhou any more than you could mesh Dark Souls and Kirby.

Admittedly, it's a setting with magic, so of course it's going to be as realistic as any given FR, Planescape, or Eberron setting.

But the only reason why the danmaku battles were only to KO, is because of the rules that were put in place in order to keep the place from becoming a barren wasteland due to multiple tactical and strategic nuke-class explosions during the fights between the inhabitants, and enforced by Yukari.

That'd be me. I just dropped my name.

See, fights with swords and laser-katanas and whathaveyou are all fine and dandy, but it's a matter of tone. Imagine a scene where blades are clashing, sparks are flying... There's a sudden, mighty slash and one of the combatants falls to the ground, blood fountaining from the cut across their neck. They grasp in vain at the wound, gurgling as they choke on their own lifeblood, pathetically staring up at their killer in blank fear as the last of their life leaves them...

Now imagine a scene where blades are clashing, sparks are flying... There's a sudden, mighty slash and one of the combatants falls to the ground, their weapon clattering down beside them. The winner smirks and sheaths their blade as the defeated lies there, eyes crossed as they raise a small, white flag and wave it lightly back and forth, before their arm falls in exhaustion.

Same set-up and same premise; there's a fight with bladed weapons and one combatant falls, defeated, but the tone is MASSIVELY different.
>>

You have to bear in mind that this isn't the exact same setting we're all familiar with. This is Gensokyo after three years under siege. Three years of abandoning the Spellcard rules in order to fight a desperate war against an overwhelming opposition. This isn't going to end in tea parties any more.
>>
>>22945073
Having slap-stick and light-hearted comedy in the same series as genocide and bloody death can be done.
You want only one or the other; we're here for both.
>>
>>22945130
And therein lies the rub. If you're going to abandon so much of the tone and characterisation that made Touhou, Touhou, why set it in Gensokyo at all? An original setting would create less expectations in the reader/player.

Regardless, I've said my piece, I've made my opinion clear, I don't mean to bash what you're doing OP, I just want to make it clear I'm understood. I'll leave now without rancour. Good luck with the rest of the quest.

Second to last post for me tonight. Tune in every Tuesday for more misadventures with Agni the Fire Fairy!

The ride back to Youkai Mountain hosts a more animated Nitori, with her frantically looking over the coat, knife, and gun.

“But how do they get the particles to stay stable while the bolt is in flight it doesn’t seem to have a modulation field generator or anything on it. How dammit? How?! And this! How do the Bose-Einstein particles reduce impact force but not freeze the user or anything else. GAH! ” Uh. You may be smarter than a normal fairy, but you have no clue what half of the words she just said mean.

You ask her about the backpack, and she just waves it off. Fine! You didn’t want to know anyways. You touch down at the base, and Nitori runs out into the garage. You decide to go hang out with that Okuu Cirno told you about. The very opposite of the strongest, the Sixball to Cirno’s Nineball, the nuclear fusion to Cirno’s cold manipulation. It’s best to get to know your enemy But first, you might want to get General Yasaka in the know before doing so. You drop a quick report outside her office, which she’s absent from.

You head over to the nuclear reactor, and a black winged figure appears to be typing on a computer.

“Unyuu? Who are you? I haven’t seen you around here before?”

>Last post for tonight, it’s been fun guys, but I need to get to work on my part of SWC, later.

"Hiya! I'm Agni, a Fire Fairy! Eye'm the Smartestest! And who're you?" You only know the winged person as Okuu, or Sixball. But that can’t possibly be her name, they both sound so stupid, just like how people call Cirno ‘Nineball’. How dare they insult the Strongest. You’re quickly entranced by her nifty looking cape. Dear gods, it’s full of stars. It’s extremely nifty.

You must have one.

“Y-your cape, it’s so cool, how does it work?” She rubs her chin in thought for a good two minutes, before shrugging.
“Smartestest? But nobody’s smarter than Satori! Your wings look kinda cool, too, all fiery and stuff. Hey, you’re one of Cirno’s friends right? I haven’t heard much from her lately, she wouldn’t stop trying to break into the reactor before the war.” She giggles. You don’t know who this Satori is, but nobody is smartestester than you! She laughs at your proclamation.

“Ha! You’re just like little Cirno! I kinda miss her now that she’s all the way at the Human Village base, maybe you’ll be my replacement Cirno for now?” Uh, uh, sure. You guess, but you can’t replace the Strongest, you can’t even hold a candle to the Strongest. But, you suppose you’ll humor her for now.

>It's been fun, guys, see you Tuesday!

Also, Mokou, whose entire backstory pretty much revolves around surviving for over a 1000 years with a massive grudge against Kaguya. And when they do meet, they spend 300 years killing each other over and over again.
