Sorry for the slight delay folks. It's here after all! Yes, it's time for Red White and Britfag's civilization quest! I'm glad I'm able to run this for you all again today!

You are the Long Fangs tribe, a primitive tribe of peoples on the cusp of the Bronze Age. With the assistance of your heroes and the guidance of your gods, it falls to you to guide your people through the ages, steering them through good times and bad, towards their eventual, far-off destiny. Do you think you are up to the task? Can you (to steal a phrase) build a civilization to stand the test of time?

We missed you Charles.

Lets go save us a people.

Great to see everyone here! Let's get this show on the road!

Towards the end of the moon, canoes are again sighted coming upriver by the tribe's lookout. The Spray Folk have returned to make good on the deal they struck before. They've brought with them bags of seed and a great deal of bronze tools, far more than the bronzesmith they loaned the tribe could make in full season! In return, they eagerly await the furs, Rock Wobblers and 'something special' that was promised them.

In return for the goods the traders bring, the tribe offers piles of the furs they took on their hunting expeditions, a pregnant boar sow and a selection of rock wobbler chicks. The Spray Folk are particularly excited to get their hands on the bear pelt that has been offered, as well as the sow. They also wish to take the fox and beaver pelts, as well as the chicks, though they dismiss the other furs as 'unsuitable'. They offer that, as much of the furs are not what they want, they should take the sow, chicks and the furs they chose, in exchange for their wears.

What will the tribe make as a counter-offer?
>>
>>22774550
Agree, it seems reasonable. Tell them they should tell us what kinds of furs they desire, as our expeditions into the deep woods are penetrating the enstranged lands. We might have something for them they scarecely beleive in the coming years.
>>
>>22774550
So I think we had the following priorities:
1. Seeds
2. Bronze tools
3. Knowledge on farming / craftan / smithan.
>>
>>22774602
I'll second this
>>
>>22774621
It seems they are handing over all of it. Maybe we ask them to give their smith a slight nudge towards taking an apprentice, but no more.
>>
>>22774703
Well, last time we tried this they just gave us seeds, or only seeds and tools IIRC. So I want to try and tickle some knowledge outta them.
>>
>>22774602
Also thirding this in the hopes, that something happens.
>>
>>22775014
Also, chat is up as it always is. #longfangs
>>
>>22774602
Fourthing to make presence known.
>>
>>22774602
The spray folk are very glad to see their trade accepted so readily! They load the rock wobblers into one of the canoes, along with the pelts, while the sow will have to be walked along the bank, guided by liberal use of a large stick and a long length of cord they brought with them.

The seed, they explain, is a new, different type of grain to the one the tribe already grows. They call it, 'wheat' and say that, while they don't grow it themselves, they know the tribe's crop as 'oats'. When questioned as to their knowledge of craftsmanship and bronzesmithery, they protest that they are simply traders, not craftsmen and cannot render the information the tribe requests. As soon as the trade is made, the spray folk depart, seemingly very pleased with the purchase.
>>
>>22775407
But we still got our good share of bronze tools, didn't we?
>>
>>22775407
What was their comment about us penetrating into the deep woods?
>>
>>22775439
The trade was for that and the seeds. So I am sure we got plenty of both.
>>22775441
This is me.
>>
>>22775458
>So I am sure we got plenty of both.
I hope so. That ought to increase our productiveness by quite a bit now.
Now we need to find a quarry at some point (or get back to the one we discovered).

>>22775441
Don't inject your fetishes in our games
>>
>>22775458
Concur. We know they like bigger furs from deadlier animals but they giving a list would be nice. And it will more than likely assist in our gathering of food anyway so yeah.

I'd suggest not hunting bears until we get better equipment however. We got lucky on that one right out of hibernation.

Britfag, we spent three actions of food gathering last turn. Did you remeber to count them? because it doesn't seem like enough food is in there.
>>
>>22775620
B) Send Derrik to go hunt the deer herd.
I) Expand field.
H) Send an envoy to the Lion Tribe. Send 25 men and women with enough food to keep themsleves fed for a two months, plus a little extra to give. They will offer their services to help the Lion Tribe rebuild, and offer the food as an apology.
>>

>>
>>22775679
Thirding this
>>
>>22775679
Fourthing for justice. We said we'd do this and its good that we should.
>>
Briiit~~ Still here, dearest royal overlord?
>>
>>22775642
I did. You're lucky I re-revised the population growth mechanic, or you'd be in REAL trouble!

>>22775679
Derrik once again leads a hunting band out into the summer woods to track down food for the village. The heat of summer and the haze of fragrant fruit flowers make for a pleasant excursion, though the flies and smelly work of butchering the kills... Not so much. All in all however, the hunters bring home plenty of meat for the village stores, though Derrik asks that he be excused from another excursion for a while. "I'm not as young as I used to be. I can hunt with the best of them, but not so much, for so long. The tribe needs a time of plenty soon, or we'll all run ourselves into the ground! Even the younger ones are feeling the strain a little, already!"

The fields are tilled and expanded, adding another 30 units to their harvest yield, though not this year, as the planting has already occurred. The space is cleared for next year however, by the effort of many tribesfolk straining and sweating under the hot, summer sun. Meanwhile, the score-and-quarter of men and women are sent to the Lion Tribe.

As the envoy sent across the river reaches the location of the Lion Tribe's village however... They receive a horrible surprise.
>>
>>22776407
The entire village of the Lion Tribe is gone, vanished from the face of the earth! All that the envoy can find is the remains of where their houses once stood, the trampled areas where once they kept their cattle and a few other signs, like forgotten or discarded tools and empty, cold fire-pits. There are no signs of violence that can immediately be found, but all the same, the Lion Tribe is completely vanished. The envoy returns home to report this and it immediately sparks whispers and concerns in the village, driving people to wonder what possible fate could have befallen the Long Fangs erstwhile allies. Before long, there are a dozen different, contradicting stories and the site of the vanished village is said to be a great hole in the ground; a blood-soaked battlefield; an empty village haunted by freezing, moaning spirits; as though the village had never been there to start with; and/or cursed and forsaken by the gods...
>>
Damn, they have gone south. We need to find them at some point.
>>
>>22776498
Man, they died because they were such Bros to us. We can't leave it at this. We need something to remember them by.
>>
>>22776498
I suggest we build a monument to them. I mean, they were our greatest bros before they took off. I don't blame them, we decimated their tribe so all we can do is honor them.

Perhaps a stone monument with a copper skin and a simple note to them should they ever return.

"The Lions once prowled these lands and blessed us with their Broship. Should they ever return, we shall welcome them as the lost brothers that they are to the Long Fangs."
>>
>>22776696
Seconding this. We should do that at some point in the future.

CORRECTION:
Food is VERY LOW

Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Gather wild food in the forest
E) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
F) Hold a cultural event (specify)
G) Craft specific objects

>>

B)Send Derrik out Hunting
I) Expand the fields
D) Make an event of this, we are sending Gerin adn the Devouts to learn directly from Groza. They are to go on a prilgrimage to seek him out in the spirit realm, and train directly under him or some such. Either the lot of them are going on a journey.
>>
>>22777812
B. Rina and Fish.
D. Gather them fruits and vegetables.
I. Send workers to build a monument in the Lion Tribe village made of stone and copper with the simple note "Gone But Not Forgotten. Our Greatest Brothers, Our Greatest Friends. We Hope You Return To Us Some Day"

Or something like that.
>>
>>22777847
Thirding. I'd like to give the wildlife a break, but i want to wait for salmon run.
>>
>>22777847
seconding
>>
>>22777847
Honestly I am curious of what will happen when they go. Will they find Groza or not?
>>
>>22777860
I like this, but add in Fishing with Rina
>>
>>22777931
Adding in Rina would mean we have TWO heroes, so that should have more food
>>
I'm just waiting on the harvest, we need the food.
>>
>>22777847
I'll get behind this.

For the future though, we should get some dogs. I imagine that would increase our take of animals when we hunt and that would be grand.

And bees too. An apiary would be excellent for food and mead production.
>>
>>22777931
>>22777847
Let's go hunting AND fishing. equal amount of food, but less strain on the wildlife. Also salmon come from the ocean so that won't hurt the salmon run. Put Derrik and Rina in there.

Next turn we should go look for those bees or search for some dogs/wolves to domesticate (ask hrunti)
>>
>>22777847
Yeah, actually either send Rina instead or dont send Derrik. He did just ask to not be sent on more hunting missions.
>>
>>22777847
fourthing. less mouths to feed.
>>
>>22777970
Repeating this again but without sending Derrik.
>>
>>22777970
I second this in place of hunting with Derrik. If we hit both at once, it comes out to even stevens and the rest of refs options are solid.
>>
>>22778024
B)Go both hunting and fishing, we used to do this, I don't see the issue now. Use Rina but not Derrik.
I) Expand the fields
D) Make an event of this, we are sending Gerin adn the Devouts to learn directly from Groza. They are to go on a prilgrimage to seek him out in the spirit realm, and train directly under him or some such. Either the lot of them are going on a journey.
>>
>>22778048
I'll support this
>>
>>22778048
Thirding this for clarity
>>
>>22778048
I shall throw my support behind this as well.
>>
>>22778048
Rina too seems to be suffering some fatigue from the tribe's demands of her, but takes to the river to bless the efforts of the fishers, while the hunters take to the forest, both parties bringing home plenty of food for the village.

The fields are again expanded, now capable of producing another 30 units of food, they are quite extensive, stretching to the very edge of the forest, from the village walls!

Gerin and Groza's devouts are reluctant to leave the village, particularly with fall hurrying close on the heals of summer, but all the same, at the will of the council, they leave to find some way to better serve the will of the god of battle, promising to return before too long, so as to not leave the village defenceless.
>>
>>22778816
Parting words fro Gerin.

"We will defend our land, you deserve to be with your god. Just ensure that you and your flock learn much while you're away. Bring Ya'jal, show Groza you have kept it."
>>
>>22778816
Right on. We've got a few months until winter and hopefully Groza's warm, honorably warming embrace will keep them warm through the cold but warm winter.
>>
>>22778816
I think we soon need to clear some more of that forest if we want to expand our fields any more.

Time for some lumberjackan and carpentan.

So how much do we want to keep expanding the fields? Should we first go and chop the woods to expand more, or build an irrigation instead?
>>
>>22778964
I'd say irrigation this turn. Sounds reasonable to me anyway. Might as well improve what we already have to see what the benefits are and then expand as needed.
>>
Unrelated note, Britfaggington, maps. Not tonight, I understand, but an updated version would be lovely when you have the time.

I'm a geography fag by nature and I require this bit of sustenance.
>>
>>22778964
Maybe gather some fruit/ mushrooms from the forest as weel, seeing as food supplies are so low and this is less labour intensive/ luck dependent as hunting or fishing.
>>
>>22778931
EVENT
The salmon run has come! The river is now thick with tasty, brave little fish, swimming against the current, straight into the tribe's waiting traps and spears!

Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Gather wild food in the forest
E) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
F) Hold a cultural event (specify)
G) Craft specific objects
H) Send envoys to another tribe
I) Other
J) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)

>Sorry for the delay... I'm plotting and also trying to manage about three records at once AND stat out heroes AND update the map... I'm a little swamped... Why don't I do all this in the week?
>>
>>22778964
Irrigate this turn, begin chopping down trees the next turn.

Britfag, what is our current production level?

Also I suggest we add a second vassal clan to go under the current farming clan. They will basically be subordinates and also work the fields. It will help build the idea of Banner men and ruling clans.
>>
>>22779062
Oh yeah, I was going to suggest for our next turn to continue hunting and fishing plus harvesting fruits and vegetables from the forest with our third action improving our current fields with irrigation and such.
>>
>>22779062
Funny thing that: it's no so instantly obvious that the forest's bounty is ready and waiting to be harvested, as it is when the river is suddenly swarming with fish.
>>
>>22779071
It sounds a little too early for THAT much specialization
>>
>>22779065
B) Salmon run, send Rina even if she's tired
G) Build irrigation canals to water the fields
A) Send scouts to find beehives (we know where they are) and other interesting shit in the forest.
>>
>>22779065
1.) Fish with Rina (Poor girl)
2.) Irrigate those fields.
3.)Send people to harvest honey and food from the forest.
>>
>>22779080
Haha, yeah. I wrote it before you posted, but free I read it I was like, so much for my idea. I second what ska said.
>>
>>22779065
B) Send Rina to go get salmon. Tell her she'll get a nice long rest after this and to please just help a little longer. Be apologetic.
I) Dig irrigation ditches in the fields to increase production instead of expansion.
D) Establish an order around Hrunti, create the White Fangs. They will hunt in the deep woods and commune with the wolves. Derrik is their leader.

I can't remember if we already did this... if we did instead change it to have Derrik go talk with Hrunti for a serious talk about our situation with the gods and what is in the deep woods. With these words.

"Hrunti, I believe we need to talk serious about our tribe. We are not the people who killed the white wolf so long ago. Our people have grown, made mistakes, and had triumphs. I believe it is time we finally learn about the gods, and what our place among them is exactly. What is in the deep woods? What are the gods? What has our world been?"
>>
>>22779065
B. Salmon run, nigga. Use Rina if she feels up to it and explain that this will be the last time we use her skills for a long while so she can rest and recuperate and can return to her other priestly duties.
D. Gather them there forest fruits and vegetables.
I. Improve upon the fields we currently have such as implementing irrigation.

I'd suggest with the irrigation that we do a trial run this turn. Irrigate, lets say 10% of our crops and see how it turns out. I don't want to run the risk of over irrigation ruining our harvest this year. If it works out, we do the rest next month.
>>
>>22779146
Second this
>>
>>22779164
I'll second this one here, but adding to D) if possible: GET SOME FUCKING HONEY AND BEEHIVES PLEASE.

>>22779146
This for next turn.
>>
B) Send Rina to go get salmon. Tell her she'll get a nice long rest after this and to please just help a little longer. Be apologetic.
I) Dig irrigation ditches in the fields to increase production instead of expansion.
D) Godlore research. Have Derrik go talk with Hrunti for a serious talk about our situation with the gods and what is in the deep woods.

HERE IS MY IMPROVED ONE
>>
>>22779225
Seconded. Hrunti needs to give us some god damn answers.

Heh... god damn.
>>
>>22779225
I'll second talking to Hrunti since that's free but I highly advise being cautious with the irrigation. This is our first time using such a technique and its entirely too easy to drown crops.
>>
>>22779225
>>22779164
Seconding Josh's, but add in talking to Hrunti since talking is a free action
>>
>>22779199
Second.
>>
>>22779270
>>22779266

in order to get actual lore it has to be research. Otherwise he will blow us off. it's happened before.
>>
>>22779287
Hrunti may well blow us off, but I this free action would allow us to find out if he'd be willing to teach us more or at least give us more insight into the forest realm.
>>
>>22779345
I suppose it could pave the way to talks. Also, we need to begin felling the trees around the village to expand the fields. Then specify that the logs are to be stacked around the field to form a shitty rudimentary wall.
>>
>>22779164
I'll go for this, we can do the Hrunti one next turn.
>>
>>22779391
Oh no doubt.

BRITFAG! I would like to stress that my option to use Rina is only if she feels strong enough to help out. Otherwise we are on our own. No need to lose a priestess when the salmon run is on and the harvest will be here shortly. Hopefully
>>
>>22779431
She isn't strong enough, ends up falling in the river and devoured by salmon.
>>
>>22779467
She went like she lived. Wet. Aw yeah.

>>
>>22779613
Had to stop it. I have uni now, plus I can't use this name outside of this thread. Long story.
>>
>>22779627
Dam shame. Just read it all last night in le archives. Has me pumped to run a Rouge Trader game IRL actually. But I digress, back to salmon hunting.
>>
>>22779225
Rina re-assures the council that she doesn't mind performing her task. All matters concerning the river are the domain of Chani, after all and as her priestess, Rina knows her duty and performs it gladly. With the salmon run in full flow, the village is soon thick with the wholesome, rich smell of smoking fish once again.

Observing how plants grow better when close to water, some more enterprising members of the tribe dig ditches through some of the fields by the river, hoping to bring more water to the plants during dryer times. Just how well it works remains to be seen, but at least a trickle of slow-flowing water flows into the ditches from the main body of the river.
>>
>>22779627
Heard about that. Good to know you're still here though.

Any explanations of god-lore will have to wait for next time, I'm afraid! It's likely to get long-winded and it's getting really late here, so I guess it's time for me to say good night.

Thank you all for coming! The next thread will be on Tuesday, at 1600EST. I hope to see you all then. Have a great weekend!
