With the sound of the tides and the crickets chirping, the sky was plastered with twinkling lights and a slim, crescent moon, only a few days after new moon.
"... You helped me find my skin again." Scylla said, quietly, sitting next to you, leaning against the log. She didn't seem bothered by her current state of undress, and you found it difficult not to stare at her soft blue skin, damp and sheening with reflected starlight.
"When my sisters and I heard the fairy song, I had a feeling I would find you at the nearest island to it." She said, giggling up at the night sky and the sliver of the moon.. "You seem like an adventurer, after all. Strangeness follows in your footsteps."

As if to punctuate her sentence, Gearworks churned past, collecting bodies and digging graves for more crewmen.
"... What a nasty song it was." The mermaid said, quietly, her eyes following the patchwork Forged. "A dirge, calling for death and destruction. I've never heard the like in all two hundred seasons of my life."
>>
/tg/ is pretty fast today. I'll give you a bump.
Also, "It was a fairy's song, but not sung by a fairy. It was Gabriel, the one who stole your skin."
>>

when angle scream the world shatters ....

could you help us find any survives please
>>
"The one who had stolen your skin hurt the faerie on this island - cut off her wings and demanded that she kill me. She's been trapped here ever since.
I came here inadvertently, when the storm sunk the ship I was on. But now that I'm here, I intend to help her, like I did you."
>>
"It was a fairy's song, but not sung by a fairy." You say. "It was Gabriel, the one who had stolen your skin. He'd cut her wings and demanded that she kill me. She's been trapped here ever since. But now that I'm here, I intend to help her, like I did you."
"Selfless, you are." She said, looking up to the night sky again.
She took a deep breath, and then pushed herself to her feet.
"This island has no ship, and you cannot swim to proper land." She said. "How do you intend on leaving this island?"
>>
>>22754605
"I'm going to try building a boat, probably."
>>
>>22754605
"I have a witch friend with a gryphon familiar, she'll be looking for us. But she might not find us before Gabriel returns, so I'll be working on fashioning a raft in the morning, just in case."
>>
"I have a witch friend with a gryphon familiar, she'll be looking for us." You say. "But she might not find us before Gabriel returns, so I'll be working on fashioning a raft in the morning, just in case."
"... I see." She said, after a moment. "It would be the little one, wouldn't it?"
She sighed, and took another step, before suddenly turning back.

"I do owe a debt to you." She said. "I and my sisters could find your friend, or perhaps speak to the priestess about lending you the First Kraken."
>>
>>22754663
"A Kraken? You control them?"
>>
>>22754663
"I'm not sure, it depends if I can get a raft built."
>>
"A Kraken? You control them?" You ask.
"We soothe them." She responded. "The First Kraken is not truly one, however. It is something... different. Strange. Smaller, and wiser. It has no limbs nor thorns, and has seen more tides than anything else in this world. The priestess- who sings to it- is my mother, and so I believe she will urge it to take you to another land, if you ask."
"I'm not sure." You say. "It depends if I can get a raft built."
"... If you build a raft, then I will lead you through the currents." She said. "I insist on it."
>>
>>22754754
"Thanks, Scylla."
>>
>>22754754
"Do you know where any of our other friends washed up? There was a maenad, an elf, and an order initiate on the boat with me."
>>
"Thanks, Scylla." You say. "Do you know where any of our other friends washed up? There was a maenad, an elf, and an order initiate on the boat with me."
"They aren't on this island. I can only hear four beings here." She said. "But this is the only island near... The closest land other than this island is the mainland. If they still live, they are either still at sea, or are on the mainland. If they no longer live... then they are likely already eaten by a kraken."
>>
>>22754855
"Do you include yourself in the four? And are there any currents that would have taken them to the mainland?"
>>
>>22754855
"That's...worrying."

We should probably get building pretty soon.
>>
"That's... worrying. Do you include yourself in the four?"
"No, no." She said. "There is the fairy, the troll, the unicorn, and you, the wizard. Those are the four I hear. There is also the machine, I know, but it has no soul."
"Who's this?" Hannah asked, stepping out of the trees. She looked Scylla up and down, then leered at her.
"Wow, you waste no time getting undressed." She said, glancing from her to you.
Scylla didn't give her a response.
>>
>>22754931
>Whoops, got cut off.
"And are there any currents that would have taken them to the mainland?"
"There is a reason this route is used by ships often." Scylla responded. "Yes, the current went that way during the time of the dirge."
>>
>>22754948
"This is Scylla, this is Hannah. She's a [mermaid? I forget.] I helped a while back. She's just taken her skin off so she could talk to me."
>>
>>22754948
"We're just discussing how best to get off this island. We can try to build a raft, or Scylla can persuade her mother to help us."
>>
"This is Scylla, Hannah." You say. "She's a mermaid I helped a while back. She's just taken her skin off so she could talk to me."
"I could speak while donning my skin." Scylla said. "But I would not have been able to step onto land."
"We're just discussing how best to get off this island. We can try to build a raft, of Scylla can persuade her mother to help us."
"I vote on the raft." Hannah said. "I don't like owing things."
"I already owe this wizard." Scylla said. "So I would simply be paying him back."
"... Wizard?" Hannah asked, and took a step away from you, eyes locking onto yours, her wings blazing into light as they fluttered in fear. "You're- you're going to cut the rest of my wings, aren't you?!"
>>
>>22755054
"Why? What would I gain from doing that?"
>>
>>22755054
"If I was going to do that I would have done it in your sleep, wouldn't I? I'm not a wizard and can't steal magic anyway, even if I wanted to."
>>
>>22755054
I do not intend to harm you and in fact planned on trying to recover those wings already stolen from you.
>>
"No, I 'm not a Wizard. I just have an unusual magical prescence and it confuses people as to what I am."
>>
>Is it just me, or is this thread not bumping?

"Why? What would I gain from doing that?"
"That's- that's what wizards do!" Hannah said, taking another step back. "They steal from other people!"
"If I was going to do that, I would have done it in your sleep, wouldn't I? I'm not a wizard and can't steal magic anyway, even if I wanted to."
"Then why did she call you one?"
"Because he is. I can hear it." Scylla said. "The chime of elven magic within a human soul."
Hannah took another step back.
>>
>>22755157
"...I guess everyone's going to find out eventually, so I might as well tell you what happened."

"I met another Elf in Atlask, she made me promise to protect someone, but she also gave me knowledge of crafting.
>>
>>22755157
>I'll try, too, who knows, something might happen.
>>
>>22755157
"Ah, that. I didn't steal that if you were wondering. A friend gave that as a gift in exchange for protecting her husband.

She's going to kill me."
>>
>>22755157
"That's true, but it was given freely by a friend, Leez, so that I might use it to protect her lover. Here, allow me to show you the mark that she bestowed me."

"However, I was given to understand that Wizards are mortals given human magic. The friend told me I was something different, since it's fey magic.

Hannah, I swear to you, even if I was capable of taking magic - I would not. I want to help. Think about it, I have Scylla's boon, not her skin. I have Cass' loyalty, not her subservience. Even your unicorn liked me."
>>
>>22755157
It's not bumping.
>>
"... I guess everyone's going to find out eventually, so I might as well tell you what happened." You say, and sigh, unwrapping your arm. "I didn't steal that. An elf in Atlask gave that power as a gift, in exchange for protecting her husband."
You look around. Kale was nowhere in sight, so you sigh again.
"She's going to kill me." You say.
"Leez gave you that?" Cass asked, climbing out from the trees, and you nod. She gave Hannah a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, he won't hurt you. Promise. We traveled with witches, and if Abel was a wizard, he'd have stolen their powers. I trust him."
"... You trust him, Cassie?" Hannah asked, and Cass nodded. "Okay. I believe you. I'm sorry for doubting you, Abel."
>>
>>22755244
"S'ok. I would've had the same reaction too if someone said they were a wizard. One of them gave me a nasty bruise before I killed him."
>>
>>22755244
"It's okay. I wouldn't trust anyone called a wizard either. We fought one, and he almost won. Cass took on his dragon buddy single-handedly."
>Maybe restart the thread? I hope asshole mod isn't back.
>>
"I'll tell you about the time I killed a Wizard at the same time Cass killed a dragon some time.

For now though, we should decide how to get off this island. It seems we have three options - we can ask the mermaids to search for our witch friend Ariana, who can use her flying familiar as a portal to the mainland. We can ask Scylla to allow us use of a kraken as a ferry to the mainland. Or we can try to build a raft and have her guide us through the currents."
>>
>>22755244
"Now that you're here, Cass, what do you think is the best way to get off the island? Scylla has offered Kraken support or we can try to build a raft."
>>
"It's okay." You say. "I would've had the same reaction too if someone said they were a wizard. We fought one, and he almost won. Cass took on his dragon buddy single-handedly."
"You blinded the thing." Cass responded. Hannah looked over to Cass, and back to you, stunned.
"For now, though, we should decide how to get off this island. It seems we have three option. We can ask the mermaids to search for our witch friend Ariana, who can use her flying familiar as a portal to the mainland. We can ask Scylla to allow us use of a kraken-"
"The First Kraken" Scylla said, butting in.
"-as a ferry to the mainland. Or we can try to build a raft and have her guide us through the currents."
"... I... don't know." Hannah said, and huffed. "You two decide."
"Well, I'm kind of nervous about riding a kraken, and we don't even know if Ariana's even near." Cass said. "The raft could break up while we're swimming if we don't do it right, though."
>>
>>22755356
"Yeah, I don't think Ariana would be coming back this soon too, so that leaves us with two options."
>>
>>22755356
"Well, with Leez's knowledge, I should be able to build a sturdy raft."
>>
>>22755356
"It'd have to be a big raft too, if we wanted to bring Gearworks. I think I'll have to ask your assistance, Scylla."
>>
>>22755356
The raft really depends on what building materials are available on the island. Can we have a poke around?
>>
>The island is all wooded forest.

"Yeah, I don't think Ariana would be coming back this soon too, so that leaves us with two options." You say. "With Leez's knowledge, I should be able to build a sturdy raft, but it'd have to be a big raft too, if we wanted to bring Gearworks."
"We could leave Gearworks here." Cass said, quirking her lips.
"I think I'll have to ask your assistance, Scylla."
"Well, I'll give all the assistance I can." Scylla said, still looking up at the stars. "So... I shall speak with my mother."

She took a few steps into the water, and pulled something out from underneath the sand there- her skin- a dry, loose sheet of scales, which she wrapped around her legs. It quickly grew, sprawling up her legs and down her feet, turning her toes into fins. She fell into the water bodily, no longer able to support herself on her tail, and she writhed around to face you.

"I will return, eventually." She said, and blew you a kiss, before making her way underwater and away.
>>
>>22755580
"That was certainly something to wake up to."
>>
>>22755580
"Hey, Cass, you should probably take the spare pistol, just in case."

Teach her how to shoot if she needs to.
>>
"... That was certainly something to wake up to." You say, and Cass shot you a grin.
"You're really into the inhuman things, aren't you?" She asked, and rolled her eyes.
"Hey, Cass, you should probably take the spare pistol, just in case." You say, and hold out the small colt.
"... You want me to use this?" Cass asked, carefully taking it in hand. "But... I don't know how..."

It doesn't take long for you to show Cass how to use the gun- as long as she knew to deal with the recoil, flip on and off the safety, and how to aim, that'd be all she really needed.
"And remember." You say. "You only have six shots until the magazine is empty."
"Okay." Cass said, holding it up. She couldn't actually fire it, lest she waste bullets, but you figure that in close ranges she wouldn't have too bad of luck.

"... That's exactly how... *he* taught me to use it." Hannah said, quietly.

"The difference is that he cheats."
>>
>>22755808
"Hey, Hannah, is there anything else on this island?"
>>
>>22755861
We cheated too. Thats how we got the revolver,
>>
>>22755914
Not voluntarily. We weren't even aware that's what it was.
>>
>>22755914
That was more like a penalty against Gabe for cheating.
When he cheats, we can do the same thing to counterbalance it.
>>
"We're the same type of being, he and I." you say. "We're not completely human... but we're not changelings either."
You shrug. "The difference is that he cheats."
"... All's fair in war." Hannah said, in a harsh voice uncharacteristic of her. "There's no such thing as cheating, when you're trying to kill someone."
"... Are you feeling okay, Hannah?" Cass asked.
"He cut my wings, Cassie." She said, in a quiet voice.
>>
>>22755953
Hannah, I will try to get your wings back. I am sorry you got involved in this.
>>
>>22755953
"Every time he cheats, I get to counter with my own cheating, so all he's doing is escalating the fight. And really, there are much, much worse weapons he could have gotten than a pistol."
>>
>>22755953
"I'm going to make sure something worse than death is ready for him."
>>
"I'm going to make sure something worse than death is ready for him." you say. "Hannah... I will try to get your wings back. I'm sorry you got involved in this."
"If there's anything you need, feel free to ask." Cass said, and pulled Hannah into a hug. "But I'm going to get back to bed. There's no reason to stay up when Scylla could be gone an entire day."
"... Thank you." Hannah said, suddenly knocking you back with a hug, the sparks that made up her wings fluttering wildly as she hugged you as tightly as possible.
>>
>>22756088
"So much for that help from Stirge. He found us with no problems at all."

Let's go work on Gearworks a bit.
>>
>>22756088
Return the hug, ruffling her hair. "Anything to do while we wait?
>>
>>22756088
"I know it might be a painful topic for you, but could you tell me more about what your wings are like? Could we regrow them? Or are they more like Scylla's tail?"
>>
You return the hug, and ruffle her hair. "Anything to do while we wait?"
"Well, I have an idea..." Hannah said, raising an eyebrow and leering at you.
"Hannah." Cass said, and the fairy frowned.
"Yeah, I'm just going to get back to sleep. It's just barely after midnight, after all." Hannah said. "Since Cassie won't let me have my fun. I've been stuck on this island for weeks, Cassie!"
"Abel's taken." Cass said. Hannah frowned and let go of you. "You'll need to enter the running with the rest of them."
Hannah huffed. "Too much work."
>>
>>22756225
"Yea, I think I'd best get back to sleep too. Don't want to fall asleep on a Kraken or anything."
