Anyone watching? If so share your works and paintings and tell us how you painted them !
I will start it with this little baby, still WIP
>>
>>22735154
Alright first of all , i started with airbrushing the camo colors, well most of you will say, damn you we dont have a airbrush, well you can follow the other steps.

>Gave the russ a general secret weapon miniatures armor wash all around, makes the surface crackle very little bit and gives awsome armour look.
>Gave the vehicle general balck wash, diluted
>Gave wash to the crevices and places that will stay at dark also the rivets etc.

>Painted streaking grime Ak interactive around the edges and places where dirt will streak with rain
>Used medium earth forgeworld pigment on the lower hull and sprayed a little bit hairspray from a far.

>Went over the panels, sides with your regular pencil to give a metal effect.
cont.
>>
>>22735205
>Painted boltgun metal on metal parts, like symbols and exhaust, than gave it tamiya smoke.
After it is dried, gave it a good old gw black wash after that diluted and little forgeworld rust.

also black pigments on weapon exits and inside panels.

Another shot, still wip also i kinda messed up the scratches and chipping at the edges , what i tried to do was.

>Take blsiter sponge, dab it in black paint, go over the lines with gentle pushes.
>paint the inside of blacks with brown
>paint thin green under the black

Never again,it looks bad, i will try mig absolute chipping next time.

Painting lighter colour than your base colour on the mini works great for scratches though, definetly recommended.

I downloaded them cause I just got into minis, then I got really jammed up for time (new baby, family problems). Also planning to make inquisitor(primaris psyker) with inquisitorial guards. Here is what i think of how to achive the guards.

how do i thin paints??
>>
>>22735762
With style.

If you are serious here is the answer.

Use Vallejo game thinner or reaper flow improve for normal paints ,you can sue distilled water wit or without those two, sometimes mixing sometimes not, havent really got the hang of the balance of them.

As for airbrush use alcohol(not vodka , medical one) purer the beter. Infact you can maybe use alcohol in normal paints too, hmm have to consider that.

Not kasrkin but cadian hostile enviorement squad.
FW being a jew it can cost super high price.

So i am waiting for the relic knights black diamond set i ordered. They can make good inquisitorial guards

I heard that people had some problems with the chinaman and his shop lately, some said things got missing etc. Anyone heard anything?

Btw I have no idea what to do with the oneshot and fritz..thats the name i think. But it is sooo cool model, maybe some kind of vanquisher tank?
>>
>>22736106
They are originated from krieg kinda, but they are sons and daughters of terranis. inducted as the inquisitors personal guards. Considering inquisitor has close ties with the captain of the cadian 7th 5th company and goes onto missions sometimes it is only logical for them to replace their gasmasks with the cadian ones at hand.
Remember, Terranis holds !

It's somewhat like preshading. It's to set the tone for the mini. Black primer makes incredibly good shading while the white primer makes the highlights easier and more accurate.

That said, it depends on what kind of highlighting you want. I personally like high noon shading, where the light source will be coming from the top.

>>22737992
It is definetly worth it if you are planning to master it and use it on long term.
You can make pretty sick and awsome stuff with it with proper equipment i am not even saying that you need it for any large scale project, vehicles big monsters etc looks very bad with standart brush.

What i will recommend you is my setting.
Badger velocity( jet or standart) airbrush
And a compressor with a tank, remember this is important you need one with tank, those wtithout tanks will give inconsistent flow of air and will drive you crazy.
I paid 100 dollar for the second hand badger velocity jet and 100 dollar for the compressor with tank.
It is definetly worth the money.

I like painting those that makes sense with the setting, for example if you are painting one like this in an appropriate dioroma, for example a bath house or someplace. That is good way to use nudity.

Otherwise something like kingdom death pin-ups makes little sense to me and i dont want to paint them for myself. Will paint for money etc though.

I'm going to ask in this thread instead of starting my own. In advance, though, this thread is tl;dr so if my question was already answered, sorry.
I want to repaint some of the minis I've already done but I'm not sure how to get the paint off. I used a gray primer for a base coat, mid-shelf canvas acrylics for the actual painting (that's all I had), and because I was stupid I also did a layer of gloss finish. So I'm looking for something to use to get this all off or at least down to the primer, if there's anything at all that will do this that is. Also they are the metal, I think pewter, minis.
I'm thinking of maybe soaking them in turpentine but like I said, I'm not sure.
>>
>>22739150
hydraulic brake fluid is your answer to that problem.
I was going to suggest revell aqua clean but considering you put gloss finish and etc brake fluid is the best.
Dip the mini in that stuff wait for some time, not sure how long for now, check how it goes.
After sometime take it off use an old toothbrush and warm water and take the paint off.

It may or may not break the glue also.

Yeah, the gloss is the main reason I want to take another shot at painting them. At the time I thought it would be a good idea to help prevent the paint from wearing/chipping but to be honest, as long as I'm not tossing them around the table they're fine.
I'll survive if it takes the glue off, it's just generic super glue anyway.

Pretty good question
Ok you will laugh at me for this.

I have WN S7 000 , WN S7 0 and WN S7 2
But i havent used any of them yet becouse
1-i am working at vehicles right now
2-didnt want to ruin the brushes becouse i dont know much about brush care

Instead i am using red sable 2 from creative models and lots of pebeo art brushes with natural but not quality hair.

If you have any reccomendations what to buy and how to care for my brushes it will be much much appreciated.
>>
>>22740356
I'm no genius at brush care. I have an Artists paint tub from Ken Bromley's art store in the UK (look it up, pretty cool if you can find similar locally or buy from there)

Also some brush cleaner from any art store.

Basically with the tub I have some mineral spirits in there. After every use I dip it into the tub and use the ridges and run the brush gently across.

While painting, rule one is basically never let paint get to the ferrule. Always dip brush into water before use and reshape/dry on papertowel.

Use clean water to wash. I'll grab a p[icture of my workstation. I have three sets of water. One: windex/water solution, Two, Water Jar, Three is clean water jar. I refill these reguarly.

Also, NEVER use same brush/water with metallic as you use with standard color. I have special brushes for metallic, a cheaper synthetic red sable set.

After every session, wash and reshape. You can use standard conditioner to reshape, just like you would with your own hair.

Incoming pic of my station.

>>
>>22739234
Brake Flue should be the *LAST* choice when it comes to stripping paint from minis. That stuff is HIGHLY TOXIC!!! Not to mention that spilling it on anything generally ruins whatever it was spilled on.

Try engine degreasing products. I have used Castrol Super Clean (available in the U.S.) to remove acrylic, enamel, and even the nigh indestructible Testors Enamel paints from plastic and metal minis alike. CSC doesn't harm plastics even when you leave them soaking in it for weeks. It will break down super-glue bonds, but not green stuff or epoxy.

- Painting this area with white or very bright afterwards, taking care to leave a thin black line left
- Setting the pupil with black or very dark

samefag here, Was wondering for some color scheme advice. I just got the first wave of my sedition wars battle for alabaster stuff and was wondering what to paint my samaritans. the stark white is nice and whatnot but it's a little... to sterile (which given the game i'm sure was intended)
i'm still so fresh i can't be considered a novice (i have all of an old exacto knife and would have to go out and get paints and brushes and whatnot), but i figure i gotta start somewhere. and at the very least i can plan the colors.

Nope but wish i was, there are so many lovely ladies at the flgs there from what i see on the internet and hear from the friends.

No advanced eye painting it is

Advanced version:
You can give the Iris some colour and bring in a tiny point of a light reflex. Please don't take this as a must have, sometimes it is even better to leave it without. It is always like you want to and if it fits to the miniature. Same procedure like in the easy version:

- Painting the area of the eyes black or very dark
- Painting this area with white or very bright afterwards, taking care to leave a thin black line left

- Setting the Iris colour
- Setting the pupil with black or very dark
- Setting a reflexation point with pure white

(my tip:if you paint a bit gloss varnish on the eyes it can create a realsitic effect)

That is the limited edition Female Barbarian from Cool Mini Or not.

It is out of production, quite hard to find. The current version has a chainmail bikini added on and a sword. I am most saddened I never picked up the nude version

Agreed, from what i can see there is 20k -30k-40-k speeds, it must be frustrating to down at these speeds but i will keep the comp open, as i said before there may be power outages so dont say i closed it.

If this thread yet lives, I've got a question.

What methods make for good weathering of vehicles, specifically tanks? I'm trying to gauge my options before I just start doing things to my rhinos.
>>
>>22752886

Washes, rust/weathering powders, drybrushing, caking on paint scratches with a sponge.
>>
>>22752520
Although the first torrent seems to have lost it's seed for me so I'm down to snails pace on 94%, and off to cook something now it's been bumped again.

There should be some about vehicle weathering around here, starting with how i made my tank at the top of the page.
I would explain it in detail alas i have lots of exams to prepare to.
>>
>>22754457
I finally finished that Jennifer Haley download. I'm seeding as much as I can, which is like 90kbps as I have horrid up/down.

I think you're going to be the end of my savings account as I've been inadvertently looking at air compressors and air brushes -_-
>>
>>22755789
Nice!
As far as the compressors go anything with a tank is good, mine is hmm 3 litres i assume ? regularyl refills itself but is good otherwise and does the job well. Be sure it has a water filter thingy to seperate the water from air in the room.Oh and do be carefull when getting one, and check the power levels, mine got its fuse burned the first time i tried to use.Manual is very important to read unlike most of the products.
As far as the airbrush goes i have velocity jet, i like jet becouse of the little cup that enables me to see more clearly.Dont waste your money on iwata or harder and steinbeck. And dont buy cheap chinise ones, buy one that will last.
Oh and one last thing spare parts are very expensive , make sure to be extra extra carefull with the needle and nozzle, if it isnt fitting there must be a problem dont force it.
And use alcahol to clean it all. Some paints can be thinned with alcahol too !
>>
>>22755940
Thanks :)
I'll probably have a good look around for a compressor. I was thinking of velocity or badger for the airbrush.

First I'll need to make some calculations to how much I have and can spend!

Not when It comes to painting minis. I prefer to have my tabletop standard army to face another of similar aesthetics. Doesn't feel right when a bunch of grey, shadeless carbon copy marines are on the battlefrield
>>
>>22765265
Maybe it is just me but i prefer facing grey armies instead of THIN YOUR PAINTS level armies.
Becouse i am painting slowly half of the army is still incomplete. Nevertheless i dont play the game itself much considering weird people at lgs and the matter of game taking hours and becoming boring.

Hmm a good question, i have watched some and like some of their tutorials.

1-marneusaugustacalgar-ignore the smurf name but he makes nice tutorials touching a lot of subjects.
http://www.youtube.com/user/MarneusAugustaCalgar/featured

2-secretweaponminiatures-mr justin makes nice overall tutorials and live shows covers specific subjects in detail.Sure he generally promotes his overpriced crack but in general it is nice
http://www.youtube.com/user/secretweaponvideos

3-coolminiornot-not for tutorials but there are 360 degree pro painted miniatures that you can look for inspiration and details

http://www.youtube.com/user/coolminiornot/videos?view=0

4-scalemodelmedic- generally paints 1/35 but vehicle painting is very relevant to 40k with techniques and has some 40k specific tutorials too.
http://www.youtube.com/user/ScaleModelMedic/featured

5-studiomcvey-there are a few tutorials, not much but can be helpfull to understand the pro painting and how it is done

That is the hobby related ones i can think of, any other good stuff i didnt hear of and you guys know will be lovely !

My way of thinking went that we are painting the mini as it is recieving the light from exactly the top right ?
So our light source should be standing on the top.
Looking at the pic i see that they are sending their light to the back of the mini. You can do it like this place them symetrical to each other to the both sides of the mini, that way it will get lighted properly.
Here, a thousand hours of unholy paint shall give you an example on what i think

Holy shit! Just caught this thread and I am in love with all the guides. Thanks for all the info!

It was mentioned earlier about the chinese recasting site with the photo album that's pw protected and how is the quality. Well I can tell you first hand that aside from the resin color, you'd never know it wasn't FW. Ordered the dreadnaught drop pod, some doors and misc terminator stuff and a couple DKoK - all came perfect after about a month in shipping. You'll have to order soon cause the Chinese New Year is gonna stop all their production between the 7th and 7th of Feb.

Unless I'm seriously underestimating the cost and effort involved in making the shafts, this just can't be an idea worth realising.

Kolinsky sable brushes are very pricey, i pledged 10 pounds with freeshipping for 2 brushes with 2 ends. It is kinda like 4 brushes for 10 pounds.Seemed like a good deal to me.

Here's the gist of their latest newsletter:

Hello,sir
Because of Chinese new year vacation,we will on vacation from Feb-06th to Feb-17th.
I just can creat order for you but can't process it.
Before the vacation, all the orders that the price over $120.00,we can send it by express shippment.Others will sent out by China air mail.

Last time I ordered (Dec), any order over $50 got free shipping, so I imagine that's for standard shipping.
