Life's been pretty interesting these past couple of months. One thing lead to another, and you ended up in Seattle. You got a decent apartment. You got the equipment you need. Just gotta find a group to do jobs with. Harder than you'd think... but it looks like Seattle's shadow community's willing to help you out with that. You pull up the link to the template again, and finally decide to start filling it out so you can submit it. It beats watching another trideo re-run.

((Welcome to ShadowQuest: Seattle 2072! The first thing we have to do is figure out what sort of Shadowrunner you are! And for that, we'll need a character. http://pastebin.com/cEVrTYJ3 Here is the template, I encourage people to fill it out. Once six or seven are done, I'll pick my favorite three to have people vote over.))

You finish handling your hygiene and go to throw your clothes on when your commlink notifies you of an incoming message on a secure channel. It's text only, and rather short. "Team Leader wants to interview you. Go to the bar at the attached address. Look for the troll wearing pink sunglasses. He will be sitting in a corner booth."

A quick matrix search shows the bar as being Nip Tucker's Bar and Wok, a CAS/Japan fusion restaurant attached to... a decent bar. A bit tacky, but in a middling part of Seattle. About fifteen to twenty minutes away by transport.

You can practically read the bowel torment on her face.

You load up your fake SIN (declaring you to be Milla J. Ovanich, freelance security consultant), slip your bowie knife into a sheath near your boot, grab your revolver, and throw your duster on over it.

You check, and Nip Tucker's isn't in any gang territory. You case the joint with a practiced eye, and after a moment, step in. It's not hugely loud, but the lunch crowd is decently hopping.

You see a troll in the corner--african american, looks like, pretty slim and small for a troll--wearing a pair of garish pink sunglasses and otherwise fairly normal streetware. He's sitting in a corner booth, eating a bowl of cheese fries (with natto).

You glance around a bit, just getting a feel for the place. No one really seems to much out of place--maybe the amerind guy in the nice suit, but a check shows him to be unawakened and packing no more than basic 'ware for your astral sight.

You glance at the Troll to assense him while you stop at the bar to place an order--Two beers, fish cheeseburger, misohash--and he's Awakened, definately... bit of 'ware in him, too, mostly basic cyberware. Feels like Black Magic to you.

You walk over and sit down. He nods a greeting, and speaks. "Well hey there, thweetcheekth," he says, with the most intense lisp you have ever heard. "Wath hopin' you'd thow up. You can call me Emerald."

Ignore the fry, think a moment then reply with.

"I've gotten worse offers today. Count me in. Has your firm handled any contracts I may have heard of?"
>>
You eat a fry or two, and quickly decide that Natto Cheese Fries are a sin against god and good cuisine. "You've got my attention," you say. "I'd like to visit your premises, though, and meet with the rest of your employees? And what's your payscale right?"

Emerald smiles. "Oh, thure, Tharr. Retht of the team'th me, we have a thecurity drone thpecialith," (a rigger) "an athtral thupport guy with a focuth on thpiritual thecurity," (a summoner specialist mage) "a virtuakinetic on-call" (A technomancer, probably a hacker) "and me, everybody'th favorite phythical thecurity expert." (An infiltrator)

You nod. "Sounds like a party. Y'all done anything I would've heard of?"

He shakes his head. "Oh, no, we take pride in being mothtly invithible in the grand thcheme of thingth. Clienth prefer that thort of anonymity." (No, because aside from the goof with our last street sam, we've been good enough not to cause a wave.) "Want to head on to our building and meet the team once you finithh that burger?"
>>
>>22707017
Sure. May as well get to know the team, see if there's any personalities we'll conflict with before taking the job.
>>
>>22707017
"That sounds just fine to me. There anything I ought to know about the others before we meet to avoid misunderstandings?"
>>
Yup, sounds good. We'll get the details of the job then as well.
>>
>>22707017
Yeah sure why not
>>
You nod. "Sure, sounds like a plan. Will need to see if there's anyone I won't agree with. Anything I ought ta know about the rest of the team?"

Em nods. "Jutht one, really. Our athtral guy, he'th Aztlander, but not with Aztechnology, tho don't jump on him to hard, okay? He's a thweet guy once you get to know him. And our virtuakinetic'th... well, thhe hath a bit of a thing for cowgirlth, tho a gentle rebuff there would be preferred if you're not into that thort of thing."

You mull this over as you finish the fishburger. At least it's... basically just a fish sandwich, really. Eventually you finish up, and you've found that Em's paid your tab. "You bring a ride, or want to hitch one with me?" he asks, smiling.
>>
Ride with the guy. Get some details on the job.
>>
>>22707017
Heavy on magic low on muscle, interesting. I guess they could have some combat drones but as far as boots on the ground go, no wonder they need us.

"Invisible is good, but unnoticed can be worse."

With a wink and a toss of a napkin, let's blow this joint.
>>
>>22707154
Take him up on his offer of a ride.
>>
>>22707154

I brought my bike.
>>
>>22707154
As I recall anyone from Aztland talks to someone in Aztechnology but whatever. That's a pretty specific fetish for fucking Seattle and if this guy isn't a total creepo it might be some fun.

"I'll hit a ride with you I reckon."

Yankees love the drawl, makes 'em feel smart.
>>
"Sure, I'll take a ride with you," you say, standing up. He does, and he towers at least two feet over you as he leads you out to a sport little two-door, though it's up in size a bit to accommodate the driver's size.

His attitude when he shuts the door and starts the engine--and the various privacy screens you notice popping up--shifts damn near visibly as he sighs, pulling out a cigar and lighting it as he pulls into Seattle traffic. "Tho, a bit about the job. Me and the team are getting paid to extract a girl from an Evo thecured medical facility. Johnthon doethn't want it clean, precithely--we're getting bonuth pay--by the way, even thplitth there--if we take out a couple of targetth while we're there."

He drives a bit furthur, turning on a country music station. "Team'th holed up waiting for me to get back with you at a bolthouthe. About thirty minuteth of driving, so if there'th any thpecific questionth you need anthwered, go ahead."
>>
>>22707366
"Any info on the girl? Why she's being extracted? How important is she?

What targets are these?

The Hacker pull up any info on who hired us and what security we're likely to encounter?"
>>
Whats gonna happen to the girl afterwords? What is the security for the place looking like? How much heat will this draw? These bonus targets, how many and how far out of the way are they from the main objective?
>>
>>22707366
EVO, huh.
They and Horizon are as close to good guys as you can get in the Shadowrun world.

Evo also holds a grudge, just like SaederKrupp and Aztechnology. We'll need to be real careful if we agree with this.
>>
>>22707366
"Is she a willing extraction?"
>>
>>22707366
"I don't like the sound of random wetwork in the middle of an extractions. Rumblin' with security is one thing, but deceasing taxpayers? Fishy, real fishy."
>>
>>22707366
"Are we going after the extra targets, or concentrating on just the main? Is the target going to be willing or not?
"And Evo? They got a reputation for having a long memory."
>>
>>22707457
Evo and Horizon are as close to goodguys is like saying a tomahawk missile is nonlethal compared to an atomic bomb.
>>
You ask a barrage of questions, and Em nods. "Willing extraction. Girl'th a virtuakinetic, and, well, you know the rumorth about EVO and those typeth, yeah? Our own techno'th tracked the johnthon down to be the target'th father. Fairly thecured place, like any EVO biolab, but our rigger'th drinking buddieth with their thpider, so he'll be handled, at leatht."

"Ath far ath the secondary targets, it'th the head of rethearch, head of thecurity, and their wagemage--and the ex-wife of the target'th father. Betht we can tell, thhe took the kid in the divorce and thold the poor thing to EVO for rethearch purpothes."

As he finishes up this, he pulls into a parking garage and pops open the doors to his car. "We're here!"
>>
Hmm killing the head guys sounds like a definate way to piss off EVO. Still kidnapping a girl... I say we take the job and at the very least go for the father.
>>
>>22707576
"Wife sounds like a real upstanding lady.

You going to introduce me to everyone?"

Get out of the car, put on our best smile, meet everyone.
>>
>>22707576
Cripple the facility, off the ex wife, and steal a technomancer? Fuck, Johnson is swinging for the fences on this job.

Quick astral sweep, hand on pistol, be ready with an armour spell, you never know.
>>
>>22707576
"Bonuses are nice and all, but I'd rather have the job safely done and us away, and EVO not too pissed at us."
Get out of the car and watch for the astral form of their mage.
>>
You step out and give the usual sweep. Nothing out of the ordinary, except for a couple of watcher spirits hanging about. "Wife sounds like an upstanding lady," you drawl. Em nods, leading you through a door and into a room. "Hey Everybody!" he yells out. "Got our fighter!"

Standing, sitting, and otherwise messing around inside a small living-room styled area are three people. One of them is elbow-deep in a Steel Lynx drone--a male dwarf with a cyberskull and far to much chrome on his skin. He pulls one arm out and waves. "Yo."

"That'th our rigger, Thilent. Don't get him talking, he'll never thop!"

Another, an Aztlander-looking male ork wearing... a wolf pelt of all things is looking out of the window. He has what looks like war-paint on his face, streaks of... that's dried blood. He glances over and inclines his head. "Hello there," he says, cutting off Emerald a bit. "I'm Obsidian. Claim I'm Aztech and I'll eat your heart, recognize I'm Aztec and we'll get along fine," he says gruffly.

Em just chuckles, and motions over at the third and last member of this running team, a young-looking (perhaps late teens or early twenties) human girl of Amerind descent. Her eyes are heavily unfocused, but she looks over with a grin and a wave. "And that's Cybsham, our Virtuakinetic! Thhe'll thart talking once thhe'th done working some thriteth or whatever they're called."

"Team, thith is Thtarr, thhe'th our new fighter! Everybody get buddy-buddy, meet and greet a little bit, I'm going to fix a thandwich!"

Em strides off towards the little bolthole's kitchen, humming happily.
>>
>>22707824
"Nice to meet ya'll, anything you think I should know before we get this show on the road?"
>>
>>22707824
"So. Like he said, I'm Starr. Gunslinger. Able to shoot the flea off of a dog's back at 500 yards, as they say.
"How're things normally run around here?"
>>
>>22707824
>>22707824
"Starr, like yer pal said. Hear you gots a girl that needs ta be grabbed and a couple people that need deceasing."

Lay it on thick, first impressions are important and if they think you're some bumpkin that gives us the advantage.
>>
>>22707824
"Lovely to meet y'all. I'm Starr, gunslinger, the girl who shoots things, ain't got no serious extra meat or chrome so I can waltz on through security checks, can use most guns though I like pistols.

I'm an Adept so don't expect much spell slinging from me, but I got a bit of magic. I suspect Em can take care of mosta the hocus-pocus."
>>
I suspect Em can take care of mosta the hocus-pocus. Aside from that, how y'all normally run things around here?"

Obsidian snorts. "Emerald's spellwork isn't as good as it could be, but it's only a little worse than mine, I'd say. Em is in charge of keeping us organized, I call the shots in the field. We mostly work like any other runner team--In and out, fast and quick, leave as little a trace as we can. We're not a family, but we work together well enough." You get the feeling the Aztlander's a professional. Still a bit crazy to have blood painted on his face though.

At this moment, Cybsham shakes her head, clearing her eyes. She looks over at you and grins the widest grin you have ever seen. "Well HELLO Cowgirl!~" she says, eyeing you up. "I'm Cybsham, I'm the team's virtuakinetic! Toss me your 'link and I'll get it set up on the team's networks."

She sends you a private message over the Matrix. [And if you wanna play some cowgirl and indian later I'd be totally up for it!~]
>>
>>22708190
This girl has a very specific fetish, she does.
>>
>>22708217
Probably involves a lasso or something
We should wink at her.
>>
>>22708190
PM her back "I'll think about it, after the job, work comes first. You gonna want me to wear the boots with spurs on them?"

Normal conversation "Y'all have experience working together? Got anything big that I ought to know about so I don't step on anybody's toes?

How much does this job pay?"
>>
>>22708337
Boots WIT DA SPURS (wit da spuurs!) DA WHOLE WORLD IS LOOKIN' AT HURR
>>
>>22708190
Have our commlink set up on the team's VPN, and PM her that we'll have to think about it, but it'll be after the job.

"So, anything I should know about while working in this group? Contact methods, how we handle collateral and witnesses, that sort of thing?"
>>
>>22708190
Some wet behind the ears kid who grew up with the internet as her parents? We'd better shut this down now before it interferes with our work.

"Flattered squaw but lets keep things professional, for now"

And of course we wink.
>>
>>22708337
Oh god when I read "boots with spurs" I thought of the cybertech not the thing for horses and that image got horrible really fast.
>>
"Y'all have experience working together? Got anything big that I ought to know about so I don't step on anybody's toes? An' how much does the job pay?" You ask, tossing your commlink over to CybSham, who waves over it a bit before tossing it back.

Obsidian nods. "Nine months together so far," he says. "Only real rules we have is don't fuck a team mate over, don't work for Aztechnology, and don't get arrested. And listen to people when they talk." He's silent for a moment, looking out of the window.

Silent speaks up. "Job's paying an even 25k base. Extra 5k for each secondary target." His accent is hard to place, and possibly voice modulated.

[Let's leave it professional for now, girlie] you reply to the Virtuakinetic. Her reply is swift. [Aww, okay. Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask, though!] She grins, like it's just a minor setback.

Obsidian speaks up again, moving to an armchair from his spot near the window. "Anyway, come on in, have a seat. We've been doing recon and legwork on the target, and we're more or less ready to hit it and get the extraction. We're planning to do so in two days, at midnight. Their spider's going to be out of town, and we'll have an hour's downtime before the replacement arrives."
>>
>>22708459
Sit down, have them run us through all the intel they've gathered and an overview of the plan.
>>
>>22708459
Sit down and go over the intel they've gathered.
Also ask if we're going for the bonuses or not.
"We hitting the extra's, or sticking with just getting the girl and getting out?"
>>
>>22708459
"I'd love to hear what you've gathered."

Listen to their intell and see if we can gauge what they think of knocking off some civies.
>>
You have a seat. "So, what's th' intel like so far? What's th' plan?" you drawl out. "And are we hittin' these extras or just nabbin' th' girl and gettin' out?"

Obsidian grunts, motion an AR display into existence showing the lab's plans, with certain rooms highlighted. A prison cell, and a couple of one-site bedrooms. "We're hoping to get full profit from this job. None of us approve of using children--" He's cut off by CybSham "Or Technomancers!" "--or Technomancers in unethical research against their will. And the pay's good enough for us to at least try. The current plan is for Emerald to infiltrate into the spider's office, here" he says, highlighting that room "And to set up a link to the outside. Once there, CybSham gets in and takes control. I keep their wagemages busy with some tricks of my own, and then Silence and Emerald go for the primary target, while you and Silence's drones handle the secondary objective. They should all be asleep when we hit, so it shouldn't be difficult."

He pauses. "Which means at some point everything will go to hell, but that's just how this business works."
>>
>>22708746
I've got no problem with killing civvies in their sleep, but I AM worried about getting on a megacorp's shit-list.
One thing to steal research material or kidnap an employee or two. But crippling an entire subsidiary would be enough to get attention.
>>
>>22708746
"Well course it'll all go to hell, this ain't my first rodeo.

What they got for security? How many guards they gonna have? How's Em getting in? Y'all need a pretty face to distract the front for a bit to make getting in easier?"
>>
>>22708746
"I have some concerns when it comes to the extras. Between grabbing the girl, hitting the head researcher and security, onsite mage, and the exwife that's alot of people to put in the ground. Plus, that'll effectively cripple this facility for a while. Seems like busting up a biolab should pay better..."
>>
>>22708746

"Don't worry. I don't approve of using children or technos either. I'm a runner, not a sociopath"

This ain't my first rodeo, I'll be where you need me.
>>
>>22708746

What is the plan with the girl once we get her out?
>>
"Well course it'll all go to hell, this ain't my first rodeo. What they got for security? How many guards they gonna have? How's Em getting in? Y'all need a pretty face to distract the front for a bit to make getting in easier?"

Obsidian pulls up a few more lists. "Security consists of the spider's drones--five steel lynx equivalents and seven stormcloud equivalents as far as armed ones--and flesh security personnel consists of two dozen security guards in rotating shifts, plus the mage's spirits--six of those. Em's getting in through the trash chutes, but if you're up for distracting people to make it easier for him to sneak in, might go for a less messy route."

You nod, and continue your questions. "I'd also rather not get on a corp's shit list, compadre. Hittin' the head of research, head o' security, onsite mage, ex wife... that's a hefty number of people. EVO'd not like us very much."

CybSham speaks up. "I'll handle all our traces, no worries there. If there's one thing I'm good at--"[Other than role play~]"--it's making sure we were never there. Resonance hides many things well."

You nod once. "What's th' plan for th' girl once we get her and get her out, then?"

Obsidian speaks. "We load up in Silence's van, disappear for a bit. Vanish into the Barrens, make sure no one's following us. Drop the girl off with the Johnson at the Tir border and collect our paycheck."
>>
>>22708942
"Tir? Her dad's with the Tir? Ain't that something.

As for the distraction, I can do that if Em wants. Dress up nice, say my car broke down, look pretty and innocent."
>>
>>22708942
So, how many ways can the shit hit the fan, and what are our backup plans?
>>
>>22708942
Pissing off Evo to help someone from Tir. This seriously sounds bad.

Do we have ID and backgrounds on the targest?
>>
Em wanders in, holding an utterly massive Dagwood of a sandwich. He lays out on a comfortable looking couch. "Tharr, it'd be LOVELY if you'd dithtract the guardth at the thide gate for me," he says. "Much better than getting in through the trathh!"

Obsidian nods over. "Answers that question for you."

You nod, and continue. "Do you have backgrounds and ID on the target and her pappy? I'm leery about this--what's the Tir gain to benefit?"

Obsidian brings up a pair of dossier files. "Dad's called Thomas Luminere. UCAS citizen, former Evo citizen. Tir's not gaining anything, he's just staying out of seattle so his ex-wife has trouble getting to him. And because he knows a Coyote, apparently. Daughter's Calliope Luminere, Evo citizen." Thomas is a human, Calliope an elf. "Scored high on intelligence, perception. Doesn't play sports. Part of her school's choir. Allergic to soy."

Silence grunts. "I know a guy in the SIN offices. Drinking buddy. Got their files offloaded for us."
>>
>>22709206

I see. We know much about the targets themselves?
>>
>>22709206
"You've got an awful lotta drinkin buddies don't you.

What're the guards likely to be packing? Don't want to have to shoot my way out unprepared."
>>
>>22709206
"Doesn't sound likely to be a fighter then. What have you got on the targets?"

>>22709342
Ares Predators minimum, every single security guard in all of Shadowrun has an Ares Pred.
>>
"You got an awful lotta drinkin' buddies, don't you?"

Silence grunts. "I do an awful lot of drinking."

You resist the urge to smirk--you think you'll like this dwarf--as you continue on. "What are the guards probably packing? And what do we know 'bout the secondary targets?"

"Guards are wearing standard ballistic armor, have basic security enhancements--plastic skeletal weave, wired reflexes, probably some orthoskin--and are armed with assualt rifles, Alpha equivalents, loaded with gel. Stun batons and pistols--Preds, most likely--with stick and shock," Obsidian briefs. He pulls out a few more dossiers. "As far as the secondaries... head of research is an old man named Albert Vorsutus. Human, no family, robotics and bio-robotics specialist."

"Head of Security's an elf, female, Megan Voln. Survived Bug City. Nasty set of psychological problems from that. Their security mage is named Pedro Vasquez, male dwarf. He's an Aztechnology deserter, not a whole lot else on him."

He brings up one last dossier. "And Dr. Luminere's ex-wife. Human, first name Lily" She looks very normal and rather happy in her file photo. "Medical specialist, surgeon, cybertech. History as a shadowrunner before she went legit, but had most of her illegal 'wares removed."
>>
>>22709471
Am I the only one who thinks we're getting severely underpaid for this job?

"Ah'll be honest with you folks, I don't like the sound of this one bit. These 'secondary targets' sound like some tough customers. Could be a work...and yeah, I know. This is the life we chose. Still though...rent is due end of the month..."
>>
>>22709471

Interesting. We will be going after the secondary targets...the HoS and Mage sound the biggest problems, though Lily could be a wildcard.
>>
>>22709471

We have a priority listing if we don't have time to take them all out?
>>
"Ah'll be honest with you folks, I don't like the sound of this one bit. These 'secondary targets' sound like some tough customers. Could be a work...and yeah, I know. This is the life we chose. Still though...rent is due end of the month..."

Obsidian nods. "It's life. It keeps happening, until it doesn't. The spider and his drones are already a nonissue, though, and all four secondaries will be asleep so long as we don't trigger an alarm."

You nod, considering your options. "We got a priority listing if we can't hit all four?"

"Ex-Wife, Head of Research, Security Mage, Head of Security, in that order," the Atzlander states.
>>
>>22709736

Alright. Would the Johnson prefer we avoid deaths other than those ones? Or blow them away?

I think we are about ready for this. Sounds like a simple enough job. Which means it's going to go pear shaped at some point but we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.
>>
>>22709736
You said Lily used to shadowrun? What was she? There's a mighty diff'rence 'tween a retired decker an' a retired street sammy.
>>
>>22709820

"Johnson want things quiet other than those four? And what was Lily when she ran the shadows?"

"No bonus for keeping it quite," Obsidian says, "But he'd prefer we leave minimal corpses. Looks like Lily was a rigger and a street doc when she was a shadowrunner."

((Last round for questions, either IC or OOC, folks. It's near 3 AM and I am tired. I play to run again next sunday, hopefully starting earlier in the day and finishing earlier.))
>>
>>22709986

I think I'm out of questions myself.
>>
You ask a few more questions, eat a sandwich out of the group's kitchen, and mingle with them a bit. Silent is... often Silent. Obsidian knows his stuff and is very professional. CybSham keeps trying to flirt with you but judging from the upgrades to your commlink is VERY good at her stuff. Emerald is the single fruitiest troll you have ever met.

They're planning to strike at midnight five days from now. You'll be ready.

((Thanks for playing, folks! I'll be up another 15-20 minutes. Anyone have any questions, comments, or concerns about the quest?))
>>
>>22710283

Thanks for running it. I'm looking forward to next time.
>>
>>22710283
No further questions, but I will be looking forward to the next installment.
>>
>>22710300

Seconded
>>
>>22710283
Looking forward to it.
>>
Well, glad everyone's enjoyed it! The quest's archived on sup/tg/ (here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html ), and I'll see the lot of you next week for the continued adventures of Starr!
