Well, here I am again, /tg/.
The last two threads culminated in anon deciding their Digimon, which was the main goal of those two to begin with.
So let's begin.

A young man sits at a desk in his room, a computer sitting idly before him.

Yeah, they can set the whole tone for a character or quest.
And Wayne Rogers, even without the "Rooster" appellation, at least sounds like a pretty cool guy who is willing the get into a rough 'n' tumble situations.
Whereas 'Slab Bulkhead' likely would get played as a large tough guy who is a mite on the slow side.

My name is Wayne Rogers.
Just Wayne Rogers.
No matter what anyone else tries to tell you.

I'm a high school student, sixteen, nearly seventeen. A sophomore, on my way into junior year.

I've been told I'm pretty alright looking, though this was coming from someone who had a pretty serious grudge against me. I'm not the tallest guy in school, but definitely not the shortest. I like to think I'm above average height, but some of the guys I know pretty much destroy that perception every time I hang out with them. Fucking six-footers.

But anyway.

I'm sitting at my desk, staring at the (relatively) new laptop my parents bought me a month or so ago.
It's not the best, but it's got most of the essential stuff on it. It runs a few games, if they don't have all the best graphics or the biggest maps ever.

Only thing I can't seem to figure out is this one fucking program on the desktop. Can't delete it, can't move it, can't rename it, can't open it. Virus scans ignore it, mostly because it came with the computer, and that somehow fucking safeguards it. Whatever.

I had told one of my friends I'd see them at school earlier than usual-nothing too crazy, just a half an hour or so- but it's still pretty early in the morning, so I should probably...

I'm struck with a sudden hunger.
A mighty need for curry.

Which is strange, seeing as curry usually isn't something I personally eat for breakfast. Ah well. No one else is up at this point, and if I eat fast enough, then I should still be able to get to school on time.

I whip up some curry - not even anything near quality, just some quick stuff that'll keep me going for a while- and eat quickly, before grabbing my bag and heading out the door.

School is close enough to walk to, thankfully, and I make it there in decent time.

My school is set up in two buildings: a two-story main building with most of the classes held inside, and a larger one-story building with the rest of the classes (mostly the science wings and art studios) inside, and a large multi-purpose field off to the side.

Now, where would she be...?

I head inside the main building first, ignoring the chill from the lack of air-conditioning this early.
Walking past all the different classrooms and lockers and up the stairs, I take note of which doors are open.

Room 3, which looks empty, Room 8, where a teacher is preparing for a class -which seems to involve a lot of paperwork, judging by all those copies and books-, and Room 14 on the second floor, where students go to have their brains forcibly removed by sheer boredom via U.S History.

I'm disheartened to find that she isn't on the roof, but the vantage point does give me a better view of the surrounding area.

I live in a kind of mediocre city called Threshold. Not exactly the best view, but not one I can complain about. The houses range from quaint to somewhat large, two stories being pretty extravagant, and three being the equivalent of a mansion. We've got a big library, one of the best in the county, and lots of parks and fields, both nearby and off in the distance. We have a pretty nice river and reservoir, as well.

But none of this really helps with finding my friend, so I turn my attention back to the school. I can't see her on the field or in the area between buildings, so she must be...

My friend's name is Zoe Waldgrave. She's been my friend for years, ever since we were in grade school together.

I head back down the stairs, and narrowly miss being hit by a massive tower of paper and textbooks, being carried by a young woman.

However, she doesn't see me, and the paper menace begins to tilt...

I quickly reach out to steady the tower of paper, but even as I do so, I know I can't stop that thing.

So instead, I change my aim and pull the one carrying it out of the way, letting the pile of of papery death fall on the poor, unsuspecting floor instead. There's a loud "slap" as the heavy books hit the ground, and with the halls as empty as they are, the noise echoes loudly for another few seconds.

Cringing at the silence breaking so loudly, I turn to the young woman.

She's only a few years older than me-20, 21, maybe. She's remarkably pretty, and I realize that she's not a teacher, she's one of the TAs that help the actual instructors in their classrooms. I struggle to remember her name at first, until I remember hearing one of the Literature teachers caller her Joyce.

I look from the paper to the shaken TA...

"Hey, are you alright?" I ask, wondering to myself how she had managed to lift that many textbooks and papers by herself.

She nods, looking at the fallen pile in dismay.

"Yeah, but my work isn't. I was supposed to take those up to Room 14 on the second floor..."

I sigh, and, resigning myself to further delay in meeting with Zoe, I bend down and begin to pick the papers back up. Joyce gives me a thankful look, and we both make short work of the pile, lifting it up in two separate stacks that are much easier to carry, due to actual visibility. But the remaining weight still caused me to wonder just how strong she was, to lift twice this amount, which was causing even my arms to express their annoyance.

After dumping the load onto a monotonous history teacher, I began to make my way back down to the first floor. To my mild surprise, Joyce followed, catching up quickly.

"Thank you for helping me. That would have taken me so much longer to get up there on my own," She pauses,

"What were you doing going down the stairs so fast, anyway?"

"Looking for a friend of mine," I answer. I did run into her, after all -Or almost did- so I might as well tell her why.

She thinks to herself, then seems to remember something.

"Is your friend a girl with short hair? Brown, to about here?" She places her hands at her shoulders, short of the point where her own tresses end. Exactly the point where Zoe's hair ends. I nod, and she makes a hum of affirmaton.

"That's what I thought. She was on the roof as well, a little while ago. She must have come down at some point. I'd try the science wing or Room 3. Nobody was in there last I checked, and that was before I saw her leave."

Thanking her for the advice, I turn and head for...

The Left.
On the left half of the science wing are several of the lab rooms, a small secondary teacher's lounge, and a nurse's office (in case of science-related shenanigans.).

I test each of the doors, and while they're all closed, only one of them isn't locked.

I head into the secondary lounge, wondering why it was open in the first place, and then wondering why anyone would be in here this early at all.

Zoe's not here, but someone did come into the room recently; there's a half-empty cup of coffee from the crappy little espresso machine in the corner.

They weren't in here too recently, though; the coffee's gotten cold.

All that's left is the right half, then.

The right half is mostly the art classes, and the walls are covered in murals that the teachers had the students paint as "projects."

Really, they were just forcing their bad ideas of art on the rest of the school.

I try all the doors here, as well, and find one of the classrooms open.

Opening the door, I slip inside, looking around.

There are easels everywhere, all covered by half-finished projects and an obscene amount of dried paint, with colored pencils and graphite lying on the few desks and chairs that weren't replaced with stools.

Zoe is sitting in one of the rows, studying one of the paintings intently.

As Quietly as I can, I make my way through the classroom, avoiding anything that might make enough noise to give me away.

Once I'm behind Zoe, I take a better look at just what it is she's looking at:

An oil pastel painting of a landscape. It's very well done, but not one I remember or recognize at all.

Overall, it seems very fantastic, like a grounding in reality was never part of the artist's agenda in the first place.

Tearing my attention away from the artwork, I realize I'm presented with a rare chance to get the drop on Zoe. A chance I would do well to not pass up.

Sneaking directly behind her, I slip my hands around her, coming to rest them over her eyes.

It seems she isn't as interested in playing, though she does crack a smile.

"Wayne, you're late."

"Not my fault," I shrug, before remembering she can't see me. "I got caught up helping someone while looking for you."

I take another look at the pastel.

"What're you doing here?"

She tries to give me what would amount to an exasperated look, if I could see her eyes.

It's not like it would work in the first place; Zoe somehow manages to be adorable or funny no matter how upset she is. That, or I'm just inured to her version of anger after enduring it for so long.

"I *was* looking at this drawing, but now that I can't see, I'm getting mad at you."

Once again, she proves me right. I take my hands off her eyes, which she rubs to try and get them adjusted again.

>>
>>22682489

"So..." I begin, sitting down beside her. "why this picture in particular?"

She sighs and looks back at the landscape, her eyes losing a great deal of their focus.

"I don't know. It's just...something about this particular scene. It looks like somewhere I'd like to go. Away from the hospitals."

I wince as she finishes.

Zoe's been very sick most of her life, ever since we met, actually. I've always been there for her, taking care of her when her parents aren't there to do it. Which is always. They both work 'round the clock, and their work involves traveling a lot. Occasionally, they'll go on trips together, so I guess their marriage is fine, but Zoe's illness meant she could never go with them. So it fell to others- to me to take care of her.

When we were younger, she was much more optimistic; always laughing, always smiling, even when she was especially bad. Nowadays, though, she's been smiling a lot less, and those times she does smile, it feels like she's still hiding unhappiness. And she won't ever talk about it with me. I've pretty much given up trying...

She frowns slightly, and shakes her head.

"I wanted to talk to you on the roof, but then you didn't show up for a while, and...well...I like it in here." She looks away, back to the picture.

"I wanted to...I wanted to talk to you because I think..." she takes a deep breath and trails off, as if trying to find the right words. "I think I might be getting worse again."

I stand, and she flinches, the abrupt movement startling her.

"What the hell are you doing in school, Zoe?! Why are you here this early when you ought to be in bed, at home?"

"Because..." She takes another deep breath, and I notice even when she's breathing deeply, she's having trouble, just like last time.

"Zoe, you can't be here. You need to go home, get some rest." She just shakes her head.

"I'll be fine."

"How can you know that?" I ask, incredulous.

"Because...you took care of me last time." She suddenly looks much more nervous. "You'll...you'll help me again, won't you?"

There's not much I can say to that.

"Of course. Of course I'll help you, Zoe."

She smiles, a small smile tinged with just a little pain, but none of the usual melancholy.

"But you still need to go home."

Her smile shrinks slightly. "What? Why?"

"Because it's obvious you're hurting now; for fuck's sake, you might be having an attack now! You need to rest."

She opens her mouth to object, but a sudden cough apparently forces her to reconsider.

"A-alright...but only if *you* take me home."

Somehow, she manages not to cough while saying any of this. Apparently that little manipulative streak of hers can't be overpowered by the ills of the body.

With a resigned sigh, I'm forced to agree to her terms; it's either get her home NOW so a doctor can take a look at her there (she refuses to go to any hospitals unless she has no other option) or let her suffer through the day.

There's no real option there.

I help her up, and, supporting her the whole way, make sure to swing by Joyce's classroom to tell her we won't be showing up.

After a short explanation of Zoe's illness, she drops any objections she might have had, and waves us out.

"Go. Go take care of her. That girl should not be in school, much less out of bed."

I thank her, and she gives me a smile and a wave as the two of us walk out of school and towards her house.

After only a few steps, however, I realize that Zoe won't be able to walk that whole way by herself- she's just too weak and tired from her body's battle with the sickness.

I decide to head for her place, fishing my cell phone out of my pocket as I go. If nothing else, then there'll be a message just in case anyone comes by.

To my surprise, Zoe's home answering machine doesn't turn on.

Instead, someone picks up.

"Hello?"

The voice doesn't sound like anyone I know, and I've met Zoe's doctor. It sounds vaguely childish, but I can't really tell for sure.

"Uh...hello?"

"Hello!"

"Who is this?"

"Hello!"

"...."

"Hello?"

I look away from the phone to Zoe, who doesn't seem that aware of what's going on; instead she's focusing on keeping her breathing steady. I turn back to the phone.

"Look, I don't know who this is, but Zoe's sick, and I'm going to try and get her home. "

"Hello?"

With a frustrated grunt, I hit the 'end call' button and slip the phone back into my pocket. At which point, I bend down, leaving Zoe without any support.

"Huh? W-wayne, what're you-?"

I straighten back up, with her now in my arms, and her arms around my neck. She's shockingly light, another sign that she needs more rest, and I'm able to carry her easily.

I said I would get her home, but which home is pretty much irrelevant now.

I hurry, making sure to take it easy on Zoe, but still making good time.

We reach my place, and I'm relieved to see the house is empty.

Dealing with my parents now would probably just worsen Zoe's condition.

But once they get back tonight, things are probably gonna get hectic. Or uncomfortable, at the very least.

The file's icon was always an egg, but any research into anything like that came up with icons that looked nothing like mine. Eventually, I decided it must just be a prank some programmer decided to play on whoever bought the computer, and gave up looking.

But if it's suddenly vanished, maybe I ought to look into it some more...

I search the web for about a half an hour, taking small breaks to tidy up and check on Zoe. Not walking around seems to have calmed her down a bit, but she's still not doing too well.

And then I hear a thump.

Looking around, I don't see anything has fallen over. Zoe's not moving all that much, and not enough to make a noise like that.

Slowly, I edge to my closet, Zoe giving me a strange look, until I point beneath the bed, and another thump answers. Her eyes widen, and before she can say anything, I've grabbed my old baseball bat, edging closer and closer to the bed.

I get down on my hands and knees, and lower myself parallel to the ground, looking underneath the bed to see the source of the noise.

At first, I don't really understand just what it is I'm seeing.

It's an egg.

A big egg.

A Really. Big. Egg.

It's the size of my fucking head. It's that big.

And it's moving. Rolling, to be precise. And every time it rolls, it bumps into my wall or the legs or my bed.

Getting back up, I look at Zoe, who has an unreadable look on her face, and just go back to sitting at my desk.

The doctor will be here soon. He'll check on Zoe. And then, once he leaves....well, that's another matter.

I reach out, hooking one hand around the egg and drawing it closer, and I'm really not surprised when it's much heavier than it looks. Taking a spare blanket from the foot of the bed, I wrap the egg in it and stuff it in my sock drawer. The thumping it makes when trying to move in there is much quieter.

Next, I hurry to the door, opening it to see the doctor standing there, a concerned expression on his face.

"Mr. Rogers?"

"Why hello there, Neighbor." I smirk at my own joke, but the doctor doesn't share my sense of humor.

"Yes, yes. Where is Zoe? She shouldn't be out and about if she's having an attack."

I lead him into the living room, offering the couch.

"Just wait right here. I'll go and see if she's feeling better."

He nods, and gives me a scrutinizing stare.

"You're the boy who took care of her when she was younger, weren't you?"

I nod, hesitant. Considering he's her doctor, he had to have known about that, but why was he bringing it up? He stays silent for a few more moments, and waves me off.

"Go on, see if she's alright. If she's doing better, then I'll just leave you with her medication. You've seen enough of her sickness to know when it's bad, so I'll leave this to you for now. If she's not feeling better in a day, then call me, and we'll move her back to her house."

That's not such a bad deal, so I accept and head back upstairs to see how Zoe's doing.

what I walk in to is...strange, to say the least.

Zoe's still in the bed, yes, but the sock draw is open. And the egg is standing straight up. Still as can be.

I look at her, and she looks at me, and I point at the egg.

"Did you..."

She shakes her head.

"...okay then. Doc's here, he says if you're feeling better, he can leave. I vote we make him leave."

She nods shakily.

"Okay, then. He brought medication, so we can treat you here. I'll just..." I send another look at the egg, and quickly duck back out.

I go back downstairs, and nod to the doctor. "She's alright, if that's okay with you."

He smiles and stand, handing over a paper bag.

He stopped just outside, and turned around , about to say something, only to stop as a crash from upstairs sounded, and a shout followed soon after. His head whipped to look me straight in the face, right as I closed and locked the door.

Ignoring the pounding outside, I dashed upstairs, throwing the door open, and was greeted by Zoe pushing up against the wall, backed away from the egg...shell?

But whatever was inside it, it's not there anymore.

It's an MC in a Digimon setting
