Well whaddaya know? It's (roughly) on time for once! Ladies and gentlemen, I hope your ready! Prepare your bodies, souls and minds, because it's time for another Civilization Quest!

You are the Long Fangs tribe, a primative tribe of peoples on the cusp of the Bronze Age. With the assistance of your heroes and the guidance of your gods, it falls to you to guide your people through the ages, steering them through good times and bad, towards their eventual, far-off destiny. Do you think you are up to the task? Can you (to steal a phrase) build a civilization to stand the test of time?

Previous thread is here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/22606964/

The full archives are here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Red%20White%20and%20Britfag

Who's ready to play tonight?
>>
I am here, I am ready.

Also, you're finally on time. Lets get through as many turns as possible today! Last thread I couldn't really participate, but I am here in force today!
>>
Bump!
>>
>>22643897
Still here, waiting on britfag. I think everyone is used to you being late now and aren't showing up until later.
>>
>>22644099
I'm here too!
>>
>>22643512
I'm here, ready to play
>>
>>22644099
Typical. The one day I actually show up on time! Well, in the meantime... Q&A session! Is there anything that anyone wants to ask? Feel free to ask questions as you find the thread!
>>
>>22644099
Ah, but I am not him. <3 I am his helper. Please dont mind me. I am just here to bump when the need is there.
>>
>>22644143
Hmmmm.... I've been wondering this:

Gods seem as if they can be born from human concepts, and as such our ideas of them change them. This seems only to be in their young phase however and they grow into something autonomous...

But they still want our worship. Is there a overarching reason for this? Or are they stroking their vanity?
>>
>>22643512
Let get it on
>>
>>22644143
Have you given thought to the strange and mythical creatures that lurk in the deep woods?
>>
Also, are humans and godkin the only intelligent species? or if we look hard enough will we find dwarves in the mountains? Or elves in the woods?
>>
>>22644260
I think we'll probably have to find that out ourselves..
>>
>>22644295
But I wanna know nooooooooow.
>>
Seems as if there are about four of us here, that's enough, more will show up. Lets get this show on the road britfag.
>>
>>22644181
I'm afraid that's something you'd have to find out through cultural events and learning more God-Lore. I don't want to reveal anything you would not know IC. Besides anything else, it's nice to hear your theories (sometimes I steal them outright, they sound so good!))
>>
>>22644389
Well then, lets do this, i am itching to start!
>>
>>22644236
I have indeed! Just WHAT and WHERE they may be lurking would be telling, but know this much: Unusual and/or magical creatures and/or peoples, that may or may not exist, would be rare, in the event that they transpire to be real.

>>22644260
See answer A

>>22644372
Yeah, let's get rocking!

Ok, one more turn until we have to plant the fields. I say we expand the place again, then the turn we plant we induct the priest.

My votes are:

B)Go put the traps in the river and fish, bring Rina along.
I) Expand the fields
I) Capture a few boards for the pens.
>>
>>22644875
Second.
>>
>>22644811
Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Gather wild food in the forest
E) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
F) Hold a cultural event (specify)
G) Craft specific objects
H) Send envoys to another tribe
I) Other
J) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)
>>
>>22644875
This sound fine to me, goes with the plan too.
>>
>>22644875
Seconding this. I feel reason overtaking me. It is a good plan.

Good evening everybody. Nice to be here again.
>>
>>22644886
I'd also like to hear the elders' advice. Just because.

And we reeeally need some morale going soon... I fear people might start to leave.
>>
>>22644934
We can throw a harvest festival next turn, to celebrate the new priest.
>>
>>22645003
Just what I was thinking.

>>22644875
>I) Capture a few boards for the pens.
Also just to make this clear, as I know how horrible of a person Britfag can be at times:
We want boars for our pens, not boarDs...
>>
>>22645032
Ok, he's mean, but not that mean.

EVENT
Mikuhla has been missing all winter, confined to his hut and not accepting anyone. Now though, he emerges, declaring that he has to leave on a long journey. In a vision sent to him by Ermetha, he saw that he must travel far, in order to learn something crucial that she has to teach him. He insists that the elders let him go, saying that he has a feeling that Ermetha's lessons could very well be what decides the future of the entire tribe.

It's worth noting that Mikuhla really doesn't look well. He looks like he's hardly slept in days, let alone eaten. And there's a curious look to his eyes that has the tribe whispering and wondering...

What will the tribe do?
A) Let Mikuhla go?
B) Refuse to let him go?
C) Let him go with conditions?
D) Other
>>
>>22645069
We should let him go, but maybe send an apprentice of chani with him or something that can take care of him? At least if Ermetha allows for that.
>>
>>22645069
We should let him go, this could be the pilgrimage we've been asking for

Or maybe even demigod babies
>>
>>22645069
Let him go. But I swear to Jeebus if there are issues with Khione getting upset again, well, I'll deal with it but still!

And I'm here. Late, but here.
>>
>>22645349
Changing my vote. Why? Because.

C. You know what? He didnt say Eremetha told him to leave immediately. I'd say we tell him to rest a few days first to build up his strength. As we've seen with Rina, communing with the Gods is hard work and apparently that's what he has been doing.
>>
>>22645537
Actually that sounds like a good idea. I'll change >>22645196 to that
>>
>>22645537
seconding this. If we don't send somebody with him, at least let him rest.
>>
>>22645069
D) Let him go, but make sure he says goodbye to khoine first.
>>
Thirded. Perhaps lend him a copper spear and scale jacket to better protect him?
>>
>>22645069
C) We send him, but made sure Khoine goes with him. She has a lot to learn about being a god, and Ermetha might just teach her. She does have a grudging respect for the girl.
>>
>>22645718
Second.
>>
>>22645718
>>22645764
No! We don't want her to be influenced by the sun god. We need to make her our own, a god that no over tribe has the pleasure to follow and so that we can force eternal winter on our foes!
>>
>>22645774
Well she clearly is extremely loyal to Micky, and assuming Ermetha isn't doing something dastardly, Micky is loyal to the tribe.
>>
>>22645774
It'll be fine. Khoine is loyal to us, we know that. She has come in our time of need.

It's not just Mickey, it's the whole tribe. In all honesty out of the gods we have the closest relationship with her.
>>
>>22645774
She is loyal to us, and Mickey. We don't have to worry.
>>
Can someone update me on what happened when we marched against the Sun Tribe? The archive doesn't cover this, and i guess its crucial. All I can gather is we lost and our champion was injured.
>>
>>22645981
We lost, as we retreated their gods came to cut a deal, saying that if we built a temple to the other of the two gods and promised not to kill any more of their followers they would make sure the sun folk would never march on our tribe. Trym is now healed and everything went better than expected.

Unfortunately it basically destroyed the Riverlands Concord and we need to air probably a year before we can fix it.
>>
>>22645981
We lost. Terribly. Our allies left us in disgust but the Riverland Concord is still tenuously held together. Ermetha the Sun in Ascent and her brother Marnath the Sun in Descent have stayed the retribution of the Sun People and we're currently rebuilding. Currently were working on ours farms and expanding our sources of food.
>>
>>22646030
I wouldn't say it was a terrible loss. We lost, but it wasn't as devastating as it could have been.
>>
>>22646030
>>22646017
>>22645981
Also giant sun cannon. That thing blew up a good portion of our army.
That's how we learned the hard way that we have to look more into godlore, as that has its benefits.
>>
>>22646017
>>22646030

Was the reason for loss being out numbered? In the build up we seemed to have reasonable numbers and arms...

Yeah, food seems to be a persistent problem for our tribe... But I suppose that's bronze age living for you.
>>
>>22646082
A combination of not having overwhelming numbers, telling the gods we didn't want help, them having a lot of godlore, shitty terrain, and men not following orders are the reasons.
>>
>>22646082
We outnumbered them two to one. They had the ultimate defense and a laser cannon. I am not kidding here, they had a fucking laser cannon. Also they seemed almost disturbingly well prepared. I actually suspect their god of spying on us somehow and passing along the information.
>>
>>22646131
>>22646045
>>22646030

Thank you all.
>>
>>22646141
A God of Spying would be great if they didn't only worship the sun gods
>>
>>22646141
Laser cannon? I thought they were less developed than us...
>>
>>22646193
The Laser cannon came from godlore, but either way, they had bronze and we didn't
>>
>>22646074
>>22646193
It was a shrine that focused the sun's power or something. It was able to blow up a dozen of our guys at once.
>>
>>22646230
Not just the suns power. That shit was rolling us at night too, as I recall. Moon power, man.
>>
The Assault on Sun Mountain was hell either way. And a lesson. A hellish lesson.
>>
>>22646188
Actually, they just consider other gods sub-ordinate to Ermetha and Marnath.

>>22645069
While Mikuhla gladly accepts a copper vest to protect himself on the journey, he refuses a spear, instead taking only his knife and a bow, along with several arrows, some tipped with some, others with copper. Further, he flat-out refuses to allow anyone to journey with him, saying that he MUST go alone. He spends a short time in prayer to Ermetha at his shrine, then leaves a small offering to Khoine before he departs early one morning, before the tribe can force anyone upon him as a companion. His departure has several members of the tribe very worried, as the priest looked positively emaciated, prior to leaving. He had at least one good meal forced onto him by concerned villagers, but the gods alone know how long it has been since he slept...

>Mikuhla is gone from the village on a quest and will be unavailable until he returns.
>>
Anybody who is interested, the chat is up on mibbit. #longfangs

Last time we covered the possibility of the world switching to a Fuedal Meritocracy and Britfag went on a second amendment rant. It was lovely.
>>
>>22646188
Not a god of spying. I meant their gods listened in on our planning meeting using the shrine we had to them.
>>
>>22646439
He shall leave us a boy, and return a man. Mikuhla, the Dying Star.
>>
>>22646689
Hopefully a hale and hearty man. With magic. MAGIC!
>>
>>22646962
Also butt naked, we need to become nudists.
>>
>>22646988
That might actually work. Who wouldnt want to join our tribe then?
>>
>>22647104
No one would after seeing Derrik.
>>
>>22646689
I just got tingles. I may steal that. I like how ominous it sounds...

>>22644875
The fish traps are placed in the river, although Rina informs the tribe that her magic won't be much good over a long term. If she studies more with Chani, it's possible she could bless all the tribe's endeavours with regards to the river, but that is only a possibility. As of now, she can do little to help.
>The fish traps will now provide a passive 'income' of fish every turn. This will NOT be as effective as active fishing by a LONG WAY, but it IS permanent (unless the traps are removed for any reason).

The tribe again goes to work, clearing more space for the fields, expanding the land and tilling it, ready for planting. Spring is wearing on now and the tribe may wish to plant the fields soon, before summer comes around.

Hunting for wild boar is a risky proposition at the best of times. Actively seeking to bring the ill-tempered and dangerous creatures home alive is an even GREATER risk. No less than seven of the hunters are wounded trying to trap the beasts with forked branches, crude restraints and pit traps, but FINALLY, the tribe manages to secure two males and five sows, one of them already swollen pregnant with young!

>The tribe has never used any fibrous plants, so your 'ropes' are pretty damn primitive. If you had any, it would make capturing animals alive much easier.
>>
>>22647171
>>The tribe has never used any fibrous plants, so your 'ropes' are pretty damn primitive. If you had any, it would make capturing animals alive much easier.
Then make Yenetha or whatsername spit out where she got her cloth clothes from...
>>
>>22647171
The field plants passively, we don't have to spend a point to do it.
>>
>>22647171

So the wise men begin researching rope.

They begin by trying to braid 3 reeds together? Is it possible we can go down route in order to develop better rope?
>>
>>22647171
So this turn I vote for:
I) Induct a harvest preist.
B) Go out and hunt one more, send Derrik with the group.
F) Make the induction of the harvest priest a special affair, make it a harvest festival more like. Basically, the fields are sewn, better times are ahead.
>>
>>22647379
Perhaps not, but we do need to call upon Perwan when we plant.

HEY BRIT!

If all goes well on our new fields and stuff, what is our production up to now? I remember last time it was at 140 units but I didnt know what it was at before so I've got no basis to go by for the enhancement.
>>
>>22647414
I'll second this, sir.
>>
Yo brit, get into chat.
>>
>>22647414
Also seconding. Let's speed this up a bit.
>>
>>22647422
Planting is usually automatic, yes, but this year, you're going to need to call on Perwan to bless your fields and accept her as a goddess, which is a manual action.

As for production, your fields will now produce 170 units of food every harvest season!
>>
>>22647745
I) Induct a harvest preist.
I) Plant the fields, make it a part of the festival.
F) Make the induction of the harvest priest a special affair, make it a harvest festival more like. Basically, the fields are sewn, better times are ahead.
>>
>>22647817
seconded again.
>>
>>22647817
Seconding. But you know, we might want to sneak another action for hunting in there somewhere, because food is very low and festivals cost food.
>>
>>22647863
It'll be fine, double hunting next turn.

Rina and Derrik both lead parties out to gather as much food for the tribe as they possibly can. With reserves so low, their return is greeted with the same enthusiasm of heroes. Between Rina's magic and Derrik's un-natural huntsmanship, the tribe is estimated to have about enough food for another moon or two.

Finally, after much preparation, the tribe is at last ready to welcome Perwan to her shrine. Her new priest dedicates the shine first with extensive prayer and what little grain the village has that is still good to be used. The sole basket of the grain is placed upon the altar as the priest prays, offering benediction and promising offerings and homage to the goddess in the future, if she will but grace the village. The whole affair is formal, but unregimented and it takes a long time before the priest arises, taking the basket and sowing the seed personally, walking the new fields and chanting as he scatters the seed in the furrowed ground. He later returns to the village and explains that though Perwan's blessing exists in all soil, it needs to be replenished regularly, or else growing crops, the ultimate form of her power, concentrated in a plant, risks draining the area entirely. Replenishing the drained fields will take time, but he assures the tribe that it can be done with Perwan's blessing and perhaps once it is, they will be graced by a visitation. It is clear to any who approach the shrine now that Perwan has indeed blessed it and the shrine is sacred ground. Though this is the first time the Long Fangs have accepted a new god without having first met them, nearly everyone seem to accept that the ritual worked and the feeling of divinity is genuine. The tribe's other priests further confirm this too.

I agree with fishing and gathering, but send Derrik to ask Hrunti about other gods in the forest, or the LOCATION of any magic-y shit if there is any.

At the tribe's curious request, Derrik takes some time at the Wolf Oak to pray to his god, requesting Hrunti's knowledge and wisdom of the forest. The god, wearing his human guise again, rubs his chin and considers the question for a moment. "Other gods..? Hmm... Not all of them will want the company, you understand... Though I doubt any would say no to being named and having a shrine, or a priest or two. Let me see; there is the god of the forest itself, the god of the great rock... The deer god, the squirrel god, the boar god... Doubtless, if you humans keep making the distinction, one of the fruit spirits will become a god at some point... The bird god, the mouse god... Look around and you'll find them. I've even caught scent of the copper god across the river from time to time, though no scent of a bronze god yet..." The god shrugs and waves Derrik away, "Bah, if you want to know, go and seek them out! If you know how to look, it's not that hard and I gave you that nose for a reason. Use it."

Derrik returns to the village and reports what he was told, looking slightly stunned; a rarity for him! "It seems there's far more out there than we ever realised," he mutters, "Anybody got any berry liquor? I think I need a mug..."
>>
>>22650149
Called it. I totally called that.

Millions of spirits, lets not get into all of them though, please. I hardly remember the 8 we already have. Maybe just a few more.
>>
>>22650149

>>
>>22650253

Yes, I want them to eat the other gods.
>>

With the fish traps providing a small, steady stream of fish for the village, Rina returns to the river, again helping the fishers by practically guiding the fish to swim clean onto the fishing spears as they jab into the water. The smoke-houses are full almost all moon cycle and the smell of smoked fish starts to get everywhere, mingling with the scent of air-drying meat.

Derrik leads his band of hunters back out into the forest, again, taking anything they possibly can as prey and thus reducing the burden on the deer herds. One thing they do find while crossing a small clearing is a strange, small, loping, long-eared creature, covered in short, grey fur. They manage to bag a few and bring them back as well, making a nice new addition to the normal prey.

Gerin flat-out refuses to help the gatherers, simply laughing at the request and shaking his head. Repeated attempts to ask him to help the gatherers are met first with silence, then with irritation, until at last Gerin responds that he has no interest in helping the gatherers now, or any other season, before returning to training with Groza's Devouts. Even without him, the gatherers bring home a small haul of summer fruits and vegetables from the forest.

Towards the end of the moon, canoes are again sighted coming upriver by the tribe's lookout. The Spray Folk have returned to make good on the deal they struck before. They've brought with them bags of seed and a great deal of bronze tools, far more than the bronzesmith they loaned the tribe could make in full season! In return, they eagerly await the furs, Rock Wobblers and 'something special' that was promised them.

What will the tribe barter for the seed and tools?

Bring out our entire reserve of furs:
Boar
Fox
Wolf
Rabbit
Raccoon
Squirrel
Beaver
Possom

The "something special" will be two things. One will be the bear pelt, and the other will be the pregnant sow. It is ready to give brith, and will most likely provide a boar and other piglets to start their own sty.

The wobbler hatchings as well.

Sounds good. Hopefully that works out well since the sow was a last minute thing, haha.

I'll second this. Even though I don't really like giving them the sow.

I second this, I really hope they don't have boars

The Spray Folk agree to the trade almost greedily at the sight of the sight of the bear pelt an the other furs. They take the fox, wolf and beaver pelts in abundance, dismissing the others as unsuitable.

The Rock Wobblers they heard into one of the canoes, while the sow will have to be walked along the bank, guided by liberal use of a large stick and a long length of cord they brought with them.

The seed, they explain, is a new, different type of grain to the one the tribe already grows. They call it, 'wheat' and say that, while they don't grow it themselves, they know the tribe's crop as 'oats'. As soon as the trade is made, the spray folk depart, seemingly very pleased with the purchase.

Britfag!
You didn't let us barter! We weren't offering all of that, that was just what we were bringing to the table!
>>
And because I'm falling asleep in my chair, that's all for tonight, I'm afraid. I'll see you all next time for more of the Civilization Quest (now with even more than two turns per thread! No, really)!

The next thread is, as always, at 1600EST, on Tuesday. Have a good weekend and I'll see you then!

What did we get besides the seeds?
>>
>>22651047
I'll fix that the start of next thread. Dead on my feet here.
>>
>>22651049
See you next week then. Have a lovely night's sleep and a nice week.
