ARGH! I am so sorry I forgot the time! Civ Quest! If anyone's still around, I'm here and ready to run!

I here, thought you weren't gonna do it.
>>
Been biting my nails and hitting F5 for the past hour...
>>
>>22606998
I know, I know. I'm SO sorry! I just lost track of time, especially with all the other shit that's gone on lately! I haven't even eaten yet tonight..

This isn't 'The Life of Britfag' though! It's Civilization Quest! The one, the only, the best (according to no-one whatsoever). So while we wait just a little more... Recap?
>>
>>22606964
Alright... time to get back to the real business. Let's fix some shit tonight. Let's get one tribe on our side by the end of the night, how about it?
>>
>>22607051
Yes it is the life of britfag, we participate to have a sitcom about you.
>>
So, what are our plans for tonight again? Mostly farming stuff, right?
>>
>>22607051
Glad I wasnt the only one late then. We're both awful at time management, Britfag haha.
>>
>>22607389

Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Gather wild food in the forest
E) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
F) Hold a cultural event (specify)
G) Craft specific objects
H) Send envoys to another tribe
I) Other
J) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)

Any other questions that didn't get asked last time?
>>
>>22607389
Farming improvements, yeah. Mostly that. Enhancing our godlore was in the works as well but, as you said, mostly farming.
>>
>>22607461
Seeing as it's still winter, we should talk about wether we want to start increasing field size now or wait until the ground is thawed again and spend the time on something more fruitful in the meantime.
>>
>>22607508
Like re-making allies of the other tribes. I say we start with the lions, they're leader is foolish, and could be easily swayed, the river lords on the other hand are just kind of dicks, and most likely won't give a shit that we're culturally married.
>>
>>22607508
Food, obviously. I'd say spend two points on that. We might get a late harvest or not as big if we wait a turn to expand the field, but knowing what we know now, certainly whatever we do grow is better than nothing.
For our third point, I'd like to heal our injured people. We havent really done that and it might help increase morale to not having people near death in our village.

But I'll leave that to you folks. I'll write up formal stuff if you want to go with my option.
>>
>>22607609
Oh right, didn't even see the wounded are still there. Of course we have to get at that.
Also we still have our fields, so if we wait to expand them, it will be a case of how much extra we get by expanding them.

>>22607564
Agreed. We should send a help convoy to the lions as soon as we can spare some food.
>>
>>22607609
B. Have Derrik help the hunters bring in whatever forest beasts the comes across be it bears to beavers.
B. Chani (I'm starting to love Chani so much now) can help us fish.
I. Do what we can to heal the injured people of our tribe.
>>
>>22607750
Want to have chani to help fish or heal our guys?
>>
>>22607750
...or trolls...
>>
>>22607780
Think we could see if maybe Chani's followers are up to the task of doing the healing? Even it's just for one turn, to see their progress. Anyway, it's be best to spam as much food as possible for now, so get Chani to help fishing whenever we can.
>>
>>22607780
Pardon, Rina. I always mess that up.

Its tough, it is, but 22 guys are not worth starving and with our latest levels of hunting and fishing plus the time of year, without the Priests we won't pull in very much.
>>
>>22607817
I like that. We should really spend some time on creating orders for our different shamans. But that's for another time... Maybe around thread 100, when we are finally out of starvation?

>>22607839
I see and agree.
>>
>>22607839
Forgot to add, "Hell, even with the priests we won't pull in very much but some more is better than some."
>>
>>22607809
I agree, Ref. Next turn though. I promise that. We need to open relations with the spray folk and we promised them something good.

Farms, farms and Trolls. Next turn.
>>
>>22607750
Last chance. Any objections to this plan?

This is the part where I, as the GM, have to ask, "Are you sure?"
>>
>>22607750
Oh right. Should probably vote to get this started.

Seconding this.
>>
>>22607991
>"Are you sure?"
>>22607750
>be it bears to beavers.
I sense a connection there...
>>
>>22607991
Britfag, why you gonna make me doubt?

Also, up for future options when food is settled, wolves? Lets ask Hrunti for wolves. Imagine that shit. I mean, after some behind the scenes britfag last week, wolves and domesticated boars (Refs idea) sound like solid investments for the future.
>>
>>22608018
Well, any animal we come across is what I meant, except people obviously. We aren't general Zaroff yet. I just dont want to limit our options. If our hunter see an animal, well, kill it and we'll eat it.
>>
>>22608046
We might be overextending Chani, which might make her mad.

And hello everyone.
>>
>>22608083
Perhaps so. Hopefully once spring gets here we can let her relax and all of that good stuff. The reason she got upset before was because we kept getting her to translate for us which isn't exactly a river based thing action. But she will tell us either way.
>>
While waiting for the turn report and such, I'm in the chat. Just for shits and giggles. Come if you want. Or not. I do so enjoy talking to you folks during the writeup.
>>
>>22608489
What's the site again? It's been a while for me.
>>
>Reminder: The tribe unlocked a new research before winter and has not followed up on it yet.

>Rock Wobblers calculated... Your current numbers are pretty much wild and lay one egg each per 3 days. This equals out to... 4 units of food a turn. Enough to feed 40 people for one month.

The tribe's wise ones look to healing as many of the wounded from the warband as they can. Winter has sapped the strength of many of the injured fighters and for most, it is too late. Still, seven lives are yet saved by the wise ones, though eight more die from their wounds, their bodies burnt as is the tribe's custom. Worse yet, Trym Wolfsbane has taken a turn for the worse. He lies in his bed, feverish and raving, unable to recognise anyone but his wife, Syfron, who stays by his bed at all times, when not tending to their infant child. In her private moments, she is distraught, barely eating and nearly sick with grief herself.

Rina again steps out onto the river to aid the fishers to try and desperately obtain some fish for the tribe to eat. The frigid waters are of little concern to the priestess walking over them, but to the shivering tribesmen, they are a more major threat. After the moon is over, no less than fourteen of the tribe are sniffling and sneezing, unable to stop shivering. The fishing trip was a success however and resulted in a healthy haul.

The hunters set out into the forest, under Derrik's guidance, tracking anything that moves. The freezing temperatures and short days make hunting hard, but they persevere, bringing down any animal they can find: Wolf, deer, squirrel, beaver, bird, it doesn't matter. To their horror however, their trip comes to an abrupt halt when they try to shelter in a small, woodland cave between the roots of a great beech tree. The smoke from their fires hangs heavy in the cave, not enough to choke them... But enough to awaken the angry, brown-furred grizzly bear using the cave as its home!
>>
>>22608520
Aw fuck. Damn, man, fix Trym. That's my vote.
>>
>>22608514
#longfangs
should work with any IRC client i think. like mibbit chat
>>
>>22608520
Before they can escape, two of the hunters are killed by the furious, powerful and deadly creature! Another breaks his leg as he gains the cave entrance, before the bear swats him into a tree. The hunting party retreats a way, while the sleepy bear wonders about, searching for them, but thanks to Derrik, they were able to hide safely.

Should the hunting party attempt to kill the bear?
A) Yes, get it before it goes back to the cave
B) Yes, but wait, go after it once it returns and falls asleep again.
C) Fuck THAT, did you see what that thing did to Frodek, Yathgar and Norest?
>>
>>22608568
I'd like to use option D.

D. Ask Derrik if we have a decent chance at killing it. I mean, Derrik is right there and can probably smell how tough that fucker is. His council would be greatly welcome.
>>
>>22608568
Aw shit man... I'm tempted. Should we try and smoke him out?
inb4 "The smoke makes Derrik lose his senses, therefore dooming the hunting party"
>>
>>22608605
We did lose three men, but they were taken by surprise when that thing just suddenly appeared. With Derrik and the rest, I think we'd stand a decent enough chance, but I'd still like his opinion. Hruntis priest and all, maybe he could call upon some godly power to help in our honorable hunt of this beast.
>>
>>22608568
I say we don't throw away an opportunity for glory when it's handed to us on a silver platter. I'll go with Josh's idea if it's a possibility, if not, then A) Come at it from all sides, while it's back is turned. Maybe have someone intentionally distract the bear while the others gang up and pounce on it with spears.
>>
>>22608602
seconding this
>>
>>22608810
I'll second this. Also, seriously, Hrunti powers. He might well be pleased with us using the power he grants to hunt and kill one of the mightiest beasts in the forest that actually fights back. Just sayin'.
>>
>>22608568
Wait until it sleeps, then kill it! With spears
>>
>>22609064
How... unceremonious. Hrunti doesnt care about honor too much, I believe, but that seems low even for him.
>>
>>22609123
Yea, I was thinking the same thing...
>>
>>22609123
He doesn't care, he cares only for the kills in his name. If anything Hrunti will praise up for a good strategy.
>>
>>22608602
Derrik sniffs the air and if he weren't blind, you'd swear he looked straight at the damn thing as it ambles past, grunting and sniffing, a few meters away on the ground. Derrik shrugs, making the tree he and a few others are hiding in sway a little, "Maybe, maybe not... He's pretty sleepy, so you might have a chance. Do it now though. Everyone knows you never corner a bear in his cave. It'll be risky either way."
>>
>>22609213
Do it. Lets attempt to kill that bear. Bring honor to Hrunti and to our village with its pelt and meat.

A. All day A.
>>
>>22609213
>>22609279
A. Let's get some bear fur and afterwards search the cave for cubs ready to be domesticated.
>>
>>22609213
Alright, so get him now before he slumbers.
>>
>>22609213
A

KILL IT!
>>
Not to mention a good sized grizzly is a whole lot of food for our tribe. And one less animal we have to contend with for food. Anywhere from 130 to 360kg, shiiit.
>>
>>22609650
This one's at the tail end of hi-BEAR-nation. It's a little slimmed down, but still looking healthy. Sorry for the unBEARable pun. You'll have to BEAR with me here; it took a while to find my dice. Now, let's see if Derrik and the hunters can bring enough might to BEAR to bring this beast down...

>Sorry, I'll stop now. I suspect you couldn't BEAR it any longer anyway.
>>

>>22609701
>>
>>22609701
All the better. It's probably grumpy, but it hasnt eaten in months. Hopefully it'll be just weak enough to take down.

Please gods of dice, do not fail us now. You already destroyed our alliance, let us have this bear!
>>
>>22609701
So, with the bear we'll have these furs to trade:

Wolf
Fox
Boar
Bear
Possum
Squirrel
Raccoon
Chipmunk

Now a full bear hide might be "special" enough to placate the Spray Folk. If not the total variety of choices will be enough. Plus the hatching Rockwobblers...

Is there anything else "Special" we can trade? Some kind of artifact or some such? A shard of the wolf's oak?
>>
>>22609650
Almost 800 pounds of meat?

Even if we do have several hundred people in need of feeding this should account for a fair feast.
>>
>>22610047
If we had taxid... taxo... those guys that stuff animals, we could turn the bear into something neat.
>>
>>22610080
Taxidermists? Yeah, they'd like that a fair bit, I think. A full sized bear rearing up as people walk into his hut. Imagine all the shit they'd need to clean off the floor.
>>
>>22610080
We still might be able to, tell them to bring the corpse back, then we spend an action point making it nice looking.

Also we should spend a research point into fish traps. We could leave them in the river and harvest them like everything else without having to spend points. We need as much automation as possible. Our scraps go to the boars we capture, we gather the eggs, milk the cows...

everything needs to be automated so we can pursue other things.
>>
>>22609751
How ICE to get a response to my little puns. Bit of a FROSTY reception though! There's no need to give me the COLD shoulder, Mojo; CHILL out.
>Okay, I really will stop now and possibly stab myself for all those...

As the bear moves beneath the tree Derrik and the hunters are in, they hatch a cunning plan. Timing their moment well, one of the hunters drops from the tree, landing spear-first on the beast's back, his weight and the drop driving it deep into the beast's hide. The bear roars in fury and rears back, standing on its hind legs and flailing, trying to catch the hunter on its back, but the man clings on grimly, despite catching a claw-swipe across his right arm, tearing his clothes and lacerating his skin. The rest of the hunters quickly join the fray, using the reach of their spears to jab at the bear and hopefully bleed it to death. Up in the tree, Derrik chooses his moments well. No-one credited him with much skill when he asked for a bow, thinking his days as an unerring archer long past. To everyone's astonishment however, he never misses one, his arrows taking the bear in the legs and throat, causing it to move slowly and blood to pour from its torn veins and skin.

At last, the bear finally falls, though not without it costing a life. It charges forward with startling speed, its eyes red with fury and its roar paralysing one poor young hunter with fear. The bear scoops the hunter into a crushing hug, ignoring the spear jabbed into its chest, breaking the young man's spine before collapsing in a bloody heap.
>>
>>22610149
Ok, bring the whole corpse back, we're spending a point to make it look pretty. Also the boy, he knew the dangers, it's not as if this wasn't expected. One death is fine.
>>
>>22610238
Four deaths. And that would be a wasted point, I think. We havent researched taxidermy and I can almost see the bear pelt rotting before it gets to the Spray Folk village and them getting rather upset about that.
>>
>>22610149
That went much better than I expected. Did you use the fluffy pink dice instead of the black leather ones that smell like dissappointment?
>>
>>22610288
Eh, doesn't really matter in the scheme of things, and that's four less mouths to feed. We need some population pruning if I'm being honest.

Fine, lets just skin it then. Try to keep it nice looking through, keep the paws/head things on so you can tell it's bear.
>>
>>22610288
Shit four deaths. It's pretty small relatively, but it might actually blow up in the village. Ah well. We'll know to better utilize Derrik's bow skills from now on, so maybe the next one will be better. This is assuming there will be more than one bear hunt from now on.
>>
>>22610331
Did we ever establish his order? Because we need to soon.
>>
>>22610356
Also send the devouts and Rina's girls on their pilgrimage. Mickey and our love priestess two.

In total that'll be 40 or so less mouths in need of feeding.
>>
Hey Brit, when you get a chance could you post our map? For purely non-game related strategic planning of non-game related... Map please.
>>
>>22610320
>that's eight less hands to gather food.
we'd need to get rid of the elderly instead
>>22610356
We should generally have a more in-depth relationship with Hrunti. He might teach us a thing or two about animals (good for domestication) or plants (agriculture/herb lore) or generally useful stuff about the forest and surrounding land.
On that note: we should at some point study our surroundings quite a bit. We might find useful stuff like that beehive from 25 threads or so ago that josh wanted to inspect.

>>22610371
40 less people to help gather... unless there are a lot of children in the devouts.
>>
>>22610423
I doubt any of the priests go hunting or gathering. We'd lose bonus fish from Rina, that's about it.
>>
>>22610149
Before I forget: INSPECT THE CAVE PLEASE, BASED BRITFAG.

I want bear cubs or something. And because we have to include any detail:
Inspect the cave for ANYTHING remotely interesting. Flora, Fauna, Geology, Catgirls
>>
>>22610381
>Actually... The map as it stands it so out of date as to be almost useless. I can promise you it next time though?

I don't mind the out-of-date-ness. I just want to freshen up my memory, so that's not really important. You don't have to update it right now. Just give us the old one.

Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Gather wild food in the forest
E) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
F) Hold a cultural event (specify)
G) Craft specific objects
H) Send envoys to another tribe
I) Other
J) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)
>>
>>22610694
I) Trap some damn boars
D) Research fish traps
I) Expand farm in preparation for the planting season. We need to sow the fields in two more turns.
>>
>>22610716
Seconded.

I'd also like to ask the nearby priests if they know of anyway to help heal Trym. Yay free points for talking.
>>
>>22610716
I'll second this
>>
>>22610716

Also put the fish traps in action at the same turn, if possible... we have an idea for them already, after all.
>>
>>22610694
When are we going to have the festival again? Or is that off this year?
>>
>>22610893
the fish and fuck festival? I think that's usually at month 4.
>>
>>22610905
A little bit later than that, I recall. We still have our spring festival though it probably wont be well attended. The ES have taken off and the Lions are probably just as pissy.
>>
>>22610905
No, the cultural meetings festival. Though I guess nobody would show up, huh. We'd be like that unpopular kid who tried to throw a birthday party, only to end up sitting on the porch with a birthday hat on, waiting for everyone to come.
>>
>>22610893
The festival is when the spray folk are coming, so it isn't off. Might just be us and the river brothers though.
>>
>>22610758
Rina claims she MIGHT be able to heal Trym's sickness, but she isn't sure. Her healing gifts and knowledge only extend so far. She's by far the tribe's best bet, but by no means certain.

>It would require a skill check.
>>

>>22610961
Yea... won't be the big party it was last time, but at least we might get some decent trades going.

...Dammit, I know that feeling. I never did anything on my 16th, 18th or 21st... Went out for a dinner somewhere and that's it. I didn't have anyone to do anything with, or anything to do...

>>22611008
Ever played Legend of the Five Rings, or Seventh Sea? I'm using a roll-and-keep system. A hero rolls a number of dice equal to a relevant class + relevant stat. For instance, Priest + Spirit for working magic. Other traits and equipment may add modifiers to a roll. For instance, Trym has the 'GODSLAYER' (yes, in all caps) trait, which gives him +2 extra rolled and 1 extra kept dice in combat with divines, or 2k1 to abbreviate it.

That make sense?
>>
>>22611266
Oh god, you're a L5R person.
>>
>>22611266
Not really, but if that takes an action point then I humbly request that we change up our options.

Obviously we need the farm upgrade, but I think the boars could wait another turn.
>>
>>22611266
>...Dammit, I know that feeling. I never did anything on my 16th, 18th or 21st... Went out for a dinner somewhere and that's it. I didn't have anyone to do anything with, or anything to do...

>>
>>22611406
What are you guys talking about? Like you've gone out with friends and stuff for your birthdays? I've never had anything besides a quiet family dinner...

huh
>>
>>22611395
I agree with that. If it takes an action point, then we should wait on the boars.
After all they are more dangerous than installing/researching fish traps.
>>
>>22611427
The last time I did something bigger like that and invited people over was when I turned 16, methinks. Otherwise I was fine inviting family and having a nice barbecue or the like.

But of course there are people that like to do that, so if they don't get that, they might be sad.
>>
>>22611488
The last time I had a proper party was in 5th grade I believe. It was in the theme of dragons. After that, middle school started and I wasn't even invited to parties anymore. But the internet kept me company. So it's okay. Ah, the memories...
>>
Alright, enough sighing about bad birthdays and what have you. What is the final vote for this round's action?
>>
>>22611847
I) Heal Trym with Rinas help.
D) Research fish traps
G) Expand farm in preparation for the planting season. We need to sow the fields in two more turns

That's my vote.

>Rina rolls 6k2 Priest + Spirit with a +3 for healing training
>Result: 20

Rina spends three days and three nights trying to cure Trym. She calls on every last one of her healing skills and draws deeply upon Chani's magic to save the life of the Long Fang's hero. By the end of her ordeal, she staggers out of the hut, shaking, her body ravaged and weakened by the strain that channelling her goddess' power placed upon her. She collapses, utterly spent and barely alive. In the hut however... Trym's fever has broken and he sleeps peacefully. Over the next twenty days, he gets his strength back, just as Rina does, both gradually recovering to full strength again.

The Wise Ones apply themselves to the idea proposed before winter and soon devise a cunning trap! A basket with one tapered end and a slightly looser weave is placed in the river and held down with stones. Sure enough, when it is pulled out two days later, a fat, tasty fish is caught inside, unable to swim backwards and thus trapped at the narrow end! More are made at once and all prove to be quite effective!
>New technology! Fish traps (poochas)

The tribe digs away at the fields, felling forest and clearing brush (including the dead, thorny remains of the years-old attempt to plant berry bushes near the village). Soon a great deal more land is cleared, ready for planting.

And that's all for tonight folks. I am so, so sorry for the late start. I'm setting a regular schedule on my phone to make sure it doesn't happen again.

The next thread is at the usual time: Thursday at 1600EST. I hope to see you all there and hope you have a good time until then. Stay well!
