Great. You realize you've made yourself out to be a fool to Sora. What's worse is that you start to wonder if you really did make the smartest decisions earlier. The more you think about it, the more you want to hit yourself, so you push the thought away for the time being. What to do now? Sayuri went to find the others. Tadashi, well, you don't know where he went.

You wander the crowds of the festival to try and put your mind at some level of ease. You feel almost lost despite your best efforts. That is, until you see that flash of silver hair in the crowd again. You try to follow it with your gaze, but it's washed away in the crowd.

Not wanting to take any chances with that hair, you immediately start searching for the girls. You count yourself lucky when you bump into them almost immediately after starting your search. "Hey, there you all are." Your anxiety over this possibly going south colors your voice just enough to warrant worried looks from the girls.

"What's up, Anon-kun?" Sayuri asks. "Everything okay?"

"I don't know," you admit, forcefully calming yourself down. "I think I may have seen Ramius or perhaps Tempest in the crowd."

"Really!?" Chiyo visibly tenses up when you announce that bombshell, and she begins looking around nervously.

"I don't know; that's the issue. I think I'm starting to develop an irrational fear of silver hair," you say, slightly joking.

"I don't blame you," Miyuki says quietly. "After all the times we've seen someone with hair like that, it's only natural to get jumpy at the first sight of it."

"It might not be either of them, though," Roslyn points out. "It could just be someone in a class below us or above us."

"Should we take that chance, though?" Sayuri asks meekly. You can tell she's really nervous about this whole situation now that there's a chance of Ramius being involved.

You aren't sure what you should do now, to be honest. There are different ways you could handle this.

You decide that you really don't want to take any chances, so you say, "Let's just leave tonight and come back tomorrow for the last day. We can clean up our stuff then."

"Alright," Sayuri says. "Let me just stop by the stall and leave the others with some things to take care of, okay?" You nod, and Sayuri runs off for a bit.

Chiyo turns to Anon-kun. "So what are we going to do after we leave?" she asks. "Did you have any plans, or...?"

"I don't have any plans as of yet," you tell her. "Why, is there something in particular that you wanted to do?"

"Um..." Chiyo and Miyuki share a look. "Maybe I could buy us dinner? It might be nice to get a change of scenery from the house, you know?"

You wonder what she means by 'us,' so you decide get that perfectly clear. "When you make that offer, do you mean just us, you know, the two of us? Or do you mean everyone?"

Chiyo's face turns a deep shade of red at that question. "I, uh, mean everyone, Anon-kun." She looks away. "Why? Did you want it to be just us?"

Now it's your turn to be a bit embarassed. You force a laugh to try and give youself a minute to compose your response, but you're saved when Sayuri saunters back to the group. "O~kay," she says cheerily. "Everything is taken care of now."

"G-good," you say quickly, seizing this opportunity to steer the topic of conversation. "Chiyo was talking about treating us all to food tonight."

"Really?" Sayuri looks up at Chiyo. "That's so kind of you, Chiyo-chan~"

"Ehehe..." Chiyo shrugs. "It's nothing. I just thought it'd be nice to take a break from the usual stuff."

"Any particular place in mind?" Roslyn asks.

"I don't know, actually," Chiyo admits. "I was thinking we could talk about it and come to an agreement."

"Sounds like a good plan," Miyuki says.

Taking it a bit easy, you let the girls talk about a few different places to go for food. In that time, you fish your phone from your pocket and send Sora a text message. 'We're going out to eat. Did you want to come along, too?'

Before you can put your phone back into your pocket, you get a text message back from Sora. 'No thank you.' Straight to the point, eh? You wonder if she's still disappointed in you for earlier.

'Okay. Just thought I'd extend the offer.' You close your phone and put it back into your pocket when your phone goes off again. You frown as you pull it back out.

'Maybe you should reflect on your choices instead of rewarding yourself for stupidity. Or not.'

Ouch. Well, she might have a point there; it's as if you ARE being rewarded for doing the wrong thing. You suddenly don't have much of an apetite. That's when you realize that the girls are looking at you expectantly. "Huh?"

"You weren't listening, were you?" Roslyn asks with a frown.

"Eh..? Oh. No, I wasn't. Sorry." You look at your phone again before closing it and putting it away. You think you're done texting for today.

"You alright?" Roslyn asks.

"Eh..." You don't know if Sayuri told them everything. "I didn't handle a situation properly earlier, and now I'm going to pay for it."

"We heard," Chiyo says. "You're suspended for two weeks, right?" You nod.

"Well," Miyuki says slowly, "You obviously made a poor decision. You can either learn from your mistakes or you can let them rule you."

"Yeah. I don't really intend on doing something so stupid again," you tell them. "I just got caught up in the moment, I guess."

"Maybe learn to cool your jets a little bit," Roslyn says pointedly. "I know you love to jump into conflict at the drop of a hat to try and solve it, but life isn't exactly like a manga, as nice as it'd be."

"Yeah." You know they're trying to be helpful, but at the same time, it feels as if you're being attacked by everyone. You shove that thought out the window. "Um... So what were you asking me?"

"We were wondering if sushi was okay with you for dinner," Sayuri says. "Unless you had a better idea for what to have?"

You shake your head. "That's fine."

The five of you end up going to a sushi bar in town. You interact with everyone, but at the same time, you're not quite yourself. You can't help but consider Sora's words.

When you arrive back home, Miyuki heads upstairs to shower, leaving you downstairs in the living room. It's not extremely late, so you figure you could call your mother and let her know about what's going on. Then again, you might want to wait until tomorrow to tell her.

Before you can decide, Miyuki comes back downstairs. "Anon-kun?" she asks.

"Yeah?"

"What are you doing sitting in the dark?" You didn't realize you left the light off when you sat down on the couch.

"...Nothing. Just sort of thinking right now."

"About what?" You can hear Miyuki's soft footsteps approach, and you feel the couch shift slightly when she sits next to you. "Earlier today?" You nod. "You're really upset, aren't you?"

"I need to tell my mother," you say quietly. "She's not going to be too happy about it, I know for a fact. I just don't know what she'll do in response."

"Isn't that the point, though?" Miyuki asks. "Punishment is usually a surprise. It carries more weight that way." You nod again. "Are you going to call her tonight?"

"Alright. Goodnight." When Miyuki leaves the room, you pull your phone from your pocket again and stare at it. You take a breath and call your mother's cellphone. You feel your pulse increase as you hear the ringing. Once. Twice.

"Hello?"

"Mom?"

"Oh, Anon-kun. How are things?" she asks.

"Not... not too great, to be honest with you."

"Oh really?" She has that tone in her voice that you recognize as her knowing exactly what's going on. "What's happened?"

You start from the beginning, when you saw Sayuri being assaulted. You leave out the parts about the fight except for the end, and then you explain everything else that followed. "...And then he said I was suspended for two weeks, starting Monday," you finish.

"I see." Silence. "So what are you going to do about this?"

"Huh?"

"You've got two weeks away from school," she says. "I can't exactly punish you from here, and I'm not going to have your phone deactivated or cut off your money -- you actually need both while I'm not there so you can take care of yourself. My question is, what do you intend to do with this time?"

"I..." What DO you intend to do? She doesn't know about the Syndicate or anything, so you can't say anything about that.

"Good. You might also consider some non-confrontational solutions to problems in the future. You're smart, Anon-kun. I know you are. You don't have to solve everything with your fists."

"I know, Mom..."

"Well, regardless, it's getting late. You still have the rest of the festival tomorrow, right?"

"Yeah."

"Then get some sleep to be prepared for tomorrow, then do what you can. I'm going to be home in about two weeks, so we can discuss what you've learned over this period of time when I get back."

"Alright."

"I love you."

"Love you too." Click. You close your phone and stare at the ceiling. She's going to be back in two weeks, huh? You hope everything can be solved by then. Miyuki should be asleep by now, you think.

Your head is still spinning from everything that's happened so far. In order to try and keep everything under control, you decide to take the initiative and go for a jog in attempts to clear your head. You head out, not sure exactly where you intend to go. You just take off, enjoying the cool air.

As you're jogging, you notice a figure out of the corner of your eye. You ignore it for the time being, figuring that there's bound to be other people out. Your jog continues, and you again notice a figure out of the corner of your eye. You turn around to see who exactly is there, and you flinch when you notice it's Crossfire. "What the hell are you doing!?" you exclaim. "Fuck, man."

"Sorry," Crossfire says with a shrug. "I have to keep a distance, for the most part.

"What do you mean?"

"Nothing. Anyway, so I hear that you're going to be suspended for two weeks come Monday."

"Yea---how did you hear about that?"

"Simple. I listen."

"Uh huh."

"The point is, you're going to have a lot of downtime, right?"

"...Yes." You don't like where this is going.

"You want to protect the girls, correct?"

"Of course."

"Then why don't you pull a two-week training session?"

"...What?"

Crossfire sighs. "Learn how to fight properly," he explains. "Learn how to defend yourself, and others."
>>
"I see." You wonder if this is the sort of thing you want to do. You just got done talking to your mother about finding non-violent solutions to problems. If you do what Crossfire is suggesting, doesn't that just promote more violence? Do you want that? Or do you want to be more peaceful when it comes to these difficult situations? Then again, you realize that you don't have to necessarily be violent. You can simply KNOW how to be violent when the time comes.

"You're conflicted," Crossfire observes. "That's fine. I understand. Just think about it. I know that if you took it upon yourself to learn how to defend yourself, you'd be learning from a lot of good people. Tadashi and myself included. It's not a full member's training, since there's no way we could do that in such a short amount of time, but we can give you the groundwork you need to develop on your own. No one says you have to use it."

"I'll definitely think about it," you tell him.

"Cool. I'll let you get back to your jog. I've got some stuff I have to do. Adios." He produces what appears to be a small gun, and he fires it up into the air. What you see then is a thick cable. Does he... have a grappling hook gun? You get your answer when he's lifted from the ground up to the top of a building, out of sight.

"I need me one of those," you say to yourself. You take a breath and finish your jog, which goes for about six miles. When you head back into the house, you check the clock. It's nearly 1 AM.

You take a shower and peek into your room. Miyuki is fast asleep, you see. Well, let her sleep. She looks comfortable, taking up the entire bed the way she is. You head back downstairs and spread out on the couch, Crossfire's words in your head. You're afraid the girls might notice you doing all of that training, if you do take him up on it. You don't really want them to know about it, so you wonder if the training could be discreet or not. You plan to talk to Crossfire, or Tadashi, about it the next time you see them. With that in mind, you realize you're far more likely to see Tadashi tomorrow instead of Crossfire.

You close your eyes and fade to a dreamless sleep, for which you're grateful. When you wake, you hear sounds from the kitchen, so you force yourself up and walk in. "Good morning..."

"Good morning," you hear. You see Chiyo and Miyuki both cooking breakfast. "I hope you're hungry," Chiyo says. "We're making omelettes and bacon~"

"Awesome." You sit down and the girls set out your food. "Thank you."

"You're welcome, Anon-kun," Miyuki says. "Chiyo thought it might be nice to make you breakfast today." Chiyo smiles at that.

You thank Chiyo again and dig in. It's fantastic. Once you get cleaned up, the three of you head to school to take care of the festival for the last day. When you arrive, you see Sayuri maintaining the stall, bouncing around full of energy.

You immediately get to work helping out with the various tasks needed to run the stall. What this boils down to is you cooking while everyone else tries to keep things orderly when you've got a line of people to serve. Unfortunately for you, that consists of most of the afternoon. When you finally get a chance to break away, you do so with utmost haste.

You wander the festival for quite some time, playing a few games here and there, observing the people around you, and generally relaxing while you can. In a few hours, you're going to have to pack up and clean up. The lazy part of you REALLY doesn't want to do that. As you walk around, you keep an eye out for those three guys from yesterday, but you don't see them anywhere. You can't help but wonder if they're keeping their distance from you. As you're in thought, you round a corner and bump straight into Tadashi.

"Hey Anon-kun," he says. "What's up?"

"Not much," you say. "Wandering around."

"Great. Mind if I tag along?" You shrug, and the two of you wander together. "So what's on your mind?" he asks suddenly. "You've been looking pensive this entire time."

"I've got stuff on my mind," you admit.

"Want to talk about it?"

"Ehh..."

"Hey, if you don't, that's fine with me. I understand there are things that sometimes you can't share with others. That's life."

"Well... Crossfire found me last night."

"Training? What kind of training?" Tadashi asks, curious.

"The fighting kind," you explain. "If I wanted to be able to help defend myself and the others, he said that you guys could help me learn."

"Ah. A bit of a cram course in self-defense against the Syndicate."

"Right."

"What's the problem, then?" he asks.

"Well... If I do this, I'm worried the girls might find out and fret about it. If I do this, I want to be discreet."

"So... training while they're at school isn't discreet?" he asks, grinning.

"Well, I guess it is," you say after some thought.

"Do you feel like you need to keep quiet about it?" Tadashi then asks. "Do you think the girls won't understand your reasoning?"

"They might."

"You know, you could just ask them and see what they think."

"That's a good point," you mutter.

"Then do it. Or don't. It's your decision, in the end. Don't let anyone else control you."

You decide to keep exploring the festival with Tadashi. As the two of you wander about, you can't help but get into trouble. Before you realize it, the two of you have spent a good three hours just hanging out around the festival.

"So I haven't seen those three guys from yesterday," you observe. "Are they just afraid of me or something?" you ask.

"Actually," Tadashi says, "I looked into it after you and the others left. Turns out that the principal suspended them for three weeks starting today, and he's moving to have them expelled."

"Wait... Really?"

"Yeah. I was impressed. Apparently he dealt out some swift punishment to them."

"He was difficult to deal with yesterday, and I didn't think he was going to punish them," you admit.

"That's kind of stupid, don't you think? These guys did things clearly in the wrong. Of course they'd get punished."

"Yeah..." You almost want to find the principal and apologize. "Anyway, what do we do now?" you ask.

"No idea. It's getting dark, so I imagine we're going to have to clean up before the fireworks."

"Oh yeah." Well, what do you do?

It probably would be a good idea to apologize to the principal.

"Let's help clean up," you decide. The two of you do, starting with your stall first, and then progressing through the rest of the grounds. It's a pretty lengthy process, but you end up making the best of it by tossing some trash into a garbage bin from afar, and Tadashi grabs it from mid-air and then takes it past you to another garbage bin behind you.

The two of you almost didn't get anything done due to the fact that you both kept treating it like a basketball game. Every now and then, you'd see a few humorous looks from the girls, but they didn't say anything to deter the two of you. Each new stall area would be the start of a new game, and it would go until there was no trash left in the area.

Despite your best efforts, you lost in the total number of games. Eight out of ten losses. To your credit, several of those were close matches, but Tadashi would snatch victory away from you at the last moment.

"You are the worst person," you say to him as he plants the last piece of trash into a garbage can. "I can't keep up with you."

"Then maybe you ought to take up that training after all," he says slyly. "It's more than just self-defense. It's a rough training schedule. One guy I know would compare it to boot camp."

"That sounds terrible." You've heard stories about the military.

"Maybe. It was worth it for me, though. I also had the full training, so there's that." Tadashi stretches and stifles a yawn.

"I guess I might do it, then," you say to yourself.

"No rush," Tadashi says, patting you on the shoulder. "I'd say talk to Cross about it the next time you see him. That way you have some more time to think about it."

"That makes sense."

The rest of the evening is spent with the group, and you all sit back to watch the fireworks. Sora is noticeably absent. Whether or not she's absent from the festival entirely or just the group, you aren't sure. The fireworks display is relatively nice; it's nothing new, really. Once it's all taken care of, you start packing up the stuff you brought over. You see the principal walking the grounds, but he hasn't noticed you.

You're not going to get another chance to say anything to him once tomorrow rolls around. You wonder if you should say anything.

You suck it up, throwing aside your pride for a moment. You messed up, and it's time to admit it. You approach the man before he can get away. "Excuse me, Sir?" He turns to you and arches an eyebrow. You bow deeply. "I sincerely apologize for the way I spoke to you yesterday. I was completely out of line, and I understand that now that I have had time to contemplate my mistakes."

The principal grumbles softly. "I accept your apology, Anon-kun. Some of what you said was true. We weren't using our resources effectively, and I made sure to rectify that mistake on our part." He actually grins, the smug bastard. "If you think apologizing would get you out of your suspension, I have to say you're mistaken."

You nervously laugh. "No, Sir. I didn't expect that at all. I just felt bad about how I treated you after coming to learn the fate of those other three... students. I wanted to apologize to you in person before I lost my chance for two weeks."

"That's good of you, Anon-kun. Thank you for your apology." He looks up and smiles. "I suppose you should go to your friends now. They're all waiting for you."

"Thank you sir. Have a good night." You bow deeply again before turning around and heading back, helping everyone carry the stuff you took from home back.

"So you apologized, eh?" Tadashi asks as you're all walking back.

"Yeah. I had to."

"Good." Tadashi just nods.

Everyone stays over at your house for a few hours, and you provide some entertainment for everyone. As the night gets late, each of the girls, one by one, makes their way home, until it's just Roslyn and Tadashi. "Well, we should get going," Roslyn says.

"Alright. I'll walk you both out." You stand and do just that, following them to the door. "If you want to do something tomorrow, let me know."

"Will do," Roslyn says, giving you a thumbs up.

"Yep. Let me know if anything happens," Tadashi says.

"Got it. Goodnight, you two."

"Goodnight~" You watch as the two of them walk off, and you're left standing in the doorway.

"Anon-kun," you hear from the living room, "I'm going to go take a shower."

"Alright, go ahead, Miyuki." When she climbs the stairs, you start to shut the door, but the door is caught just before it slides home. "Eh?"

"Evening..." The voice sounds familiar. The door is slowly pushed back open, and standing there in the doorway Crossfire, a strange grin spread across his face. You notice a few fresh bloodstains on his jacket and undershirt. "...Anon-kun."
