“Pretty cool huh? Darkness and Light... a duality of sorts. Completely opposite forces but yet still two sides of the same coin. You were quite lucky to run into me! ...Or maybe I was lucky running into you. I guess we could call it fate!” you say while smiling happily.

Amanda doesn’t reply, rather just staring at the power coming out of your own hands.

You release the power within your hands, letting them return to normal again. “I’ve got a few important questions for you. Ones you shouldn’t rush and give your time thinking them over. Why do wish for power? What are you willing to sacrifice in the pursuit of it? What do you truly value in life right now? What lines would you refuse to cross? What do you want most in the world?”

Amanda is about to open her mouth in reply, but you hold up a finger to silence her. You can tell that she is quite eager.

“I said this is something you will need to reflect upon yourself. Think hard on those questions, and when you truly have the answers for them, then you can come back to me with the answers of those questions.” you tell her.

“Y-yes milady, your words contain great wisdom.” Amanda says doing a small bow in front of you. You notice that her aura is a brown (???) colour.

“While you certainly are ambitious, I do feel that three pupils is a relatively small group. Tell me, do you know of anyone else we could possibly invite?” you ask.

Amanda seems to think for a few moments. “I may know a few my Queen, although I will need to undergo a more careful selection process to weed out anyone that may seem undesirable.”

“Yes, please do. You have a sharp mind Amanda, and I’m somewhat envious of that. Certainly it is a blessing bestowed upon you.” you tell her.

“Your words flatter me milady.” Amanda says. It seems as if things have taken a 180 and she considers you to be a higher social standing. Upon hearing this, you cannot help but blush a bit.

“I give praise where it is deserved.” you reply. “Now what about setting up times for future meetings? Our last meeting ran into an unexpected end.”

“We’re free tonight at eight if you wish milady. I cannot speak for the others, but if you wish to give us extra lessons then I will made all due effort to reach them.” Amanda replies.

“You’re friends with the other girls. Can you give me a guess of when they’ll be able to make it?” you ask.

“They’re preparing for the arrival of the Demon Knight coming into town tomorrow milady. If I had to hazard a guess, they’ll probably be busy for the next while until he leaves the town.” Amanda’s aura turns into a bright red colour (anger) as she says this. She’s probably angry at waiting. “I can talk to them to be sure, but I’m pretty sure after the demon knight has stopped paying attention to them, their schedule will be far more open.”

You heart nearly skips a beat as she says this. The demonic knight is coming tomorrow!? Alright... Just relax... Just remember what Marina said. It’ll most likely be in the castle for all day and Marina will need a full day to finalize any plans of her own. If you have any last minute training or planning to do, it’d be now or never. There’s also the rather pressing issue of your tutoring job, and how you plan to handle that.

“...Is something wrong milady?” Amanda asks.

Oh great, now she’s probably caught onto your worry as well. You try to think of a way to deflect here.

We're busy with the twins tonight so that's off the table. Tomorrow is probably going to be training and prep for the Knight, we don't know exactly when the killing day is so that makes scheduling difficult.

“I take a bath within my building here daily. You can always find me around the same time here every day here.” Amanda replies. “...Speaking of which milady, could you possibly suggest any ways to perhaps read up on some skills? I understand that actually performing feats by yourself is dangerous, but would there be any harm in reading up on the material by myself?”

You certainly know some books in the library that fit her bill. You don’t need to worry about them containing dangerous magicks, as by law public libraries cannot contain such things. Still, you wonder whenever or not it’d be a good idea to allow her to do such things.

But be careful when reading them though. There are quite a few inaccuracies, common misconceptions, and other such errors. This is excluding things such as purposeful inaccuracies, bias, and things left out. So do not not take everything you read as gospel. Take everything you read with an open mind, and when we meet each other once again, we’ll go over what you have learned. I’ll do my best to correct anything that may have been misleading or is incorrect.” you tell her.

At first Amanda is surprised, perhaps afraid that you may accidently incinerate her or something like that. She then returns the hug back to you. It does feel somewhat strange though, as you’re smaller than her while you’re Sarah.

You then pull away from the hug. “Until we meet again Lady Amanda, and remember to stay out of trouble.”

“But of course milady.” Amanda says giving you a small bow.

As you come down around the corner, you slink back over to the hot tub pool and relax within it. You’re somewhat surprised when you can see Mina next to you, staring at you.

“...C-can I help you?” you ask, a bit nervous with how close she is.

Mina then leans in and whispers in your ear. “Hello Brooklyn~.”

Your eyes go wide upon hearing that. “H-how’d you know!?” you whisper back.

Mina then has a large, mischievous grin on her face. “You just told me.”

You’re about to open your mouth before you stop. Mina had just caught you.

“Actually I was looking for you earlier. I didn’t see anyone else come in or leave, so you still had to be here. But...”

“...But?” you ask.

“Oh you’re just so cute! You’re just like a doll!” Mina says hugging you close to you. Not in a sensual way, but in a way that women hug things which they find cute.

“M-Ma’am!?” you ask as you can feel Mina hugging you.

“The way you speak and everything is just too adorable!” Mina says continuing to hug you.

“Can’t... Breathe...” you gasp as you can feel Mina crushing the life out of you.

“...You could’ve been a bit more gentle you know...” you warn Mina while both of you have some privacy in a sauna. At Mina’s insistence, you’re still within your Sarah form.

“Oh! Do you know where to take them?” Mina asks. “The girls seemed like the type where they wanted a partner who’d take charge, so do you know of a good place?”

“Hey! I’ve spent two years working in a tavern, so your guess is as good as mine!” Mina says.

Shit... You need to think of some place where you can take the twins.

As for places, keep in mind while Fort Hope isn't a large metropolis, it isn't a slum or a Hamlet either. You can get a wide variety of foods and a decent variety of activities still (Mainly winter ones, such as ice skating, outdoor plays, etc...)

Hmm, we did the Atlas last time. So not that.

We go out for food pretty often so we should know some good spots. I'm thinking a comfortable hole in the wall, a bit casual, warm, cozy, friendly, that sort of thing. Maybe take them out to see some sights or if there's a play on take them to see a play afterwards. I'd suggest taking them dancing if we knew how, but I don't know if we do.

“...Yea most I’ve met do that. It’s more of a personal thing really. I kinda believe that one should take responsibility for their actions and that everything goes back to the individual. D-Don’t get me wrong! I’m not saying that you have to do that!” Mina trips as she tries to explain herself.

You chuckle a bit while patting her on the head. “Don’t worry, I understand what you mean.”

Mina breaths in a sigh of relief. “Good, I was worried I was making an idiot of myself there.”

You take a sigh as you wrack your brain trying to pick out some good locations for the twins. “I think I’ll take them to the Red Fox Inn. It’s a tavern of sorts, but it has a reputation for being one of the less rowdy ones. My friends and I often go there because of how how we can discuss things and eat at the same time. The Food’s pretty good... So long as you don’t order the the pork.”

“It’s getting pretty late too, isn’t it?” Mina asks.

“Yea I’m pretty sure that it’s about time for me to go now.” you say standing up, about to shift back into your normal form.

“Wait Brooklyn!” Mina calls out as you stand up.

“Yes Mina?” you ask, turning around to face her.

However Mina doesn’t say anything in return. She just seems to stare at you.

“Mina?” you ask, somewhat confused.

“OH YOU’RE SO CUTE!” Mina says reaching up and hugging you again.

“MINA! MY NECK!” you gurgle, but she doesn’t seem to let go.

You eventually get out of Mina’s death grip and head over to meet the twins, who are already out waiting for you in the lobby of the inn. Both of them dressed in the same dresses as of last night along with the same coats.

“Oh! What a surprise! I hope you haven’t been waiting for me for too long!” you say sounding surprised.

“N-na... We decided to come down here a little early is all.” Katlin replies.

“So where will we be going Miss Miranda?” Stacy asks.

“A nice little place called the Red Fox Inn. It’s not as fancy as The Atlas was, but has it’s own little charm for being one of the more relaxed Taverns of sorts.” you say.

“...Yea... with all the stuff that’s been going on lately, something more relaxed would be nice...” Katlin replies.

You reach the Red Fox Inn in a short period of time. It’s a rather cozy place, similar to the Adamant Door but it tends to have a lot of wild animal heads mounted around the place. The owner of the place being an accomplished Hunter. More impressively, a few demonic animal heads are also on the wall too, such as the dreaded Phase Stalker.

But what immediately catches your eyes isn’t the wild game, but rather Brodin slumped over the counter of the bar area, a few glasses around him. Thankfully he doesn’t appear to have his scythe nearby, and the girls just seem to ignore him just like most other people around the area.

“Table for three?” the waiter comes up and asks.

“...But of course!” you reply, somewhat being surprised by Brodin being here.

The waiter then leads you over to your table and seats you down. “Anything to drink?” the waiter asks.

“Just some water for me.” you reply.

“I’ll have some water as well.” Katlin replies as she looks over the menu. “Hm... The pork line looks to be pretty good...”

“I’ll have a mug of Black Horse please.” Stacy says.

Katlin seems to give a look at Stacy.

“What? I don’t see the difference between it and wine. I’m not sure why father doesn’t like us drinking it.” Stacy replies.

After you place your order, it would be a good time to ask the twins some questions in order to get to know them better. ...At least that’s what you read that’s how dates go.

“So ladies, what can you tell me about your life on the road with your father? Surely you’ve got to have some stories you can share about that.” you ask.

“Oh... We’re not that special...” Katlin says as she blushes, having a white (???) aura.

“That’s a lie and you know it sis.” Stacy says. “I’m pretty good with the lance and riding with mounts, also I know how to use the spear. I mainly learned everything I know from the mercenaries we always travelled with. I mainly consider it putting the lessons of horseriding our father taught us to good use.”

“My sister does have some talent with martial pursuits yes, but father doesn’t let her get into actual combat.” Katlin says.

“He let’s me help with navigation and trails.” Stacy replies.

“My job is that I often help father with the paperwork and bookkeeping. Keeping a merchant caravan afloat is a tough job. Every time we pull out, there’s always the risk of when we pull into port, the products we’d have won’t be into demand at all. There’s also the haggling aspects, but father is the main social muscle behind that.” Katlin replies. “What about you Miss Miranda? Can you tell us any stories of yours?”

“Yea! You’ve got to have a few awesome stories!” Stacy replies, her aura becoming a vermillion (happy) colour.

Tell them a story, made up of course, about us and some friends, loosely based off of a few of the Queens personality wise with names, appearances, and maybe even gender on a few of them, changed. We were brought along because we were completely fluent in Latin, which is needed for some literature, and knew a fair bit of history about the area. We heard about a library/university/ruin that had some bandits in it, but we figured there could be something valuable there that the bandits wouldn't have noticed. We went there, took out some bandits, adventured it up, found a couple books in passable quality and a few other nice things and raw material.

That works as well, we don't want to make it too implausible, we don't want them to wonder why we don't have old world tech around, maybe any that we found wasn't in good enough shape to use but we managed to sell it to the right collector for a fair bit, any books we found weren't in good shaped so we gave them to a local repository of books, that sort of thing. And don't go too heavy on the traps, more on the dangerous nature of exploring a broken down building with all sorts of holes, breaks, cave ins, destroyed parts, and that sort of thing.

“Oh! Well I’m hardly as interesting as you make me out to be. Most of the time I’m quite content with curling up next to a fireplace with a cup of hot tea and a book. But.... There is one adventure I had with my companions from a while back.” You say.

You then tell them of an adventure that you had a while back, with the companions of yours being the Queen’s. You tell them of a tale in where you tried to find a cache of old world gear, and they hired you on for your knowledge and fluency in Latin. You many stick to the areas you were good in, but you try to keep the tale suspenseful while still remaining believable. You sneak in the dramatic bit where you needed to avoid a bandit group, and how you outsmarted them, fighting off a small squad before running off back to safety in the city.

“...Wow... That’s a really awesome tale...” Stacy says, her aura being Vermillion.

“Yes. It is fortunate you and your friends made it away while we... we...” Katlin holds her shoulders as she begins to shiver. Her aura colour turns into an Orange (fear) colour as she seems to recall bad memories.

You reach over the table, placing your hand on Katlin’s, gently stroking it.

"Shh, it's okay Kaitlin. It's alright, you're safe, those men are dead, all of them, I made sure of it. They can never hurt you again. The only way they can hurt you is through fear, do not fear the dead, do not fear those who are gone forever. Remember when I came for you, when I saved you, when I protected you, remember that moment. Do you remember that moment?” you ask her.

“Y-yea... I remember the moment where I heard your friends attacking the base, then your brown skinned friend came and brought us back to father...” Katlin says recalling the memory.

“Good. You’re safe now. You’re with me and your sister. I need you to be strong for me Katlin. I believe in you. You’re strong, intelligent, and kind.” you reach up and brush away some tears from her face with your other hand. “You’re under my protection right now. There’s nothing to be afraid of.”

“I know I know... It’s just... we felt so powerless. They belittled us... Insulted us and made us feel like animals!” Katlin says as the tears continue flow down her face.

You get up from your spot, rushing over to hug her closely in a gentle embrace. “Ssshhh... It’s painful I know, but that time is all over. You’re safe and sound here with us...”

Katlin tightly embraces you as well for a few minutes, her sobs getting slower and slower until they finally stop.

“...Sis is right though. Nothing could’ve prepared us for that. We felt so powerless... I-I never want to feel that way ever again.” Stacy says as she stirs her potatoes.

Both of the girls auras turn into a Bright Green (Obsession) and Deep Red (Desire) colour. “W-what makes y-you say that?!”

“Well... I think dinner with your father made that obvious.” you reply.

“Well... It’s just that you seem... so calm, you always seem to know what to say.” Katlin replies.

“You always seem so confident as well. You seem so... sure of yourself. You’re also so brave...” Stacy says while blushing.

“I-I never thought I’d be attracted to another woman as well but after what happened... I think it might be a while before we see men in the same light again...” Katlin says.

“I’ll send a message to the castle, telling them I’ll take Brodin out for a history lesson around town. They’d gladly buy that hook, line, and sinker.” you tell Mina. “After that I’ll come home and try to learn some method to hide my aura. What about you?”

“Hhhhooo... I’m no Okarian or Laminian. I doubt I’m going to learn magic to hide my aura in a week, let alone one day.” Mina says. “I think I’ll work on sharpening my mind against any mental attacks the guy could have.”

“And I’ll... I’ll have a cookie!” Brodin replies after.

“I think they’re still fresh.” you say getting out the tin of cookies and passing it to Brodin. You then get out one of your old world pens and begin to write a letter, explaining of your idea of a less to give Brodin a history lesson around town.

“I’m going to head out and deliver this letter to the castle guards. I highly doubt the Knight will have arrived just yet.” you say folding the letter into your pocket.

“Brodin and I will stay here. Have fun!” Mina says waving you off.

Delivering the letter itself isn’t that hard. The Royal Palace guard accepts it and immediately heads off to get the letter delivered. However one thing you plainly notice is that there is far more security than normal. It appears the Langy’s purchased some extra security in the form of Mercenaries. You can notice a lot of Crimson Bears patrolling the area around the castle, at least double the number of Royal Knight that you can count with your naked eyes alone.

However, on the way back you can notice a crowd gathering around the road. Curious, you head over to see what it is. Upon seeing it yourself, you wish that you didn’t let your curiosity get the better of you.

Four overmuscled Demonic Bodyguards march in formation, carrying shields and spears with the court Emblem of Lord Articus. They seem to tower over everyone in the crowd, but compared to the person they’re protecting the middle, they may as well not exist in your field of view.

A man that is about seven foot two, dressed in icy blue articulated plate and a long, flowing cape billowing behind him and his long, blue hair. Two black horns come out from the top of his head, while his face could almost be mistaken for that of a teenager.

“Citizens of Fort Hope! Do not be alarmed! My presence here means nothing for the fine people of this city!” The demons voice bellows out. “All I ask from you all is that I have your devotion and cooperation, and we shall depart just as fast as we arrived!” the demon says.

Your heart seems to skip a beat as the Pride Demon says this. You can feel a wave of ease wash over you, knowing that such a noble soul has arrived to help your city. Like the rest of the crowd, you kneels begin to weaken. Your instinct telling you to drop down to your knees and thank him for coming here, and perhaps thank him of his benevolence.

(While normally this'd be static, I'd allow a roll to resist this. Difficulty of the roll is 70, and since you don't have a Willpower rating you don't get any bonuses unless you stunt trying to resist it)

There was nothing in there about wanting to spill our guts, but I don't care about the specifics as long as we don't stand out. The primary goal here is to make sure we fit in.

You’re about to fall to your knees, before you come to the fact that this bastard had just used a social attack the crowd, yourself included. You’re sure that you’re fine right now, but even a tiny bit of lingering remains saying that you should throw yourself at his feet.

But in the end, you still kneel with the rest of the crowd. But not because he ordered you to, but because you choose to do so out of your own free will.

The Demon Knight smiles as he sees people bow before him. He even walks over towards a little girl, kneeling beside her and holding out his hand. You can see mist quickly gather around it, before a small ice statue appears in his hands. The kind of sculpture that many other artists would labour an entire day for.

Even when the rest of the crowd departs, you remain on your knees for a moment. God damn you *barely* resisted that. Horror thoughts go through your mind in that if he did such a thing again, you don’t think you’d be able to resist.

You walk back to your house, pondering of the current events that have just transpired.

You decide that while you can easily hide from the Knight for the next few days, you cannot afford to be affected by his mental magic when it comes down to actually fighting him.

“I... I think I’m going to learn some mental fortification.” you tell Mina. “Got any good mystical techniques to help me out, teacher?”

“That’s sensei to you!” Mina says touching you on the nose playfully. “But yes, I do. Come, let me teach you a few meditative exercises I know you. They always worked for me whenever I needed to resist something.”

With that, you sit down on the floor for the next few hours with Mina. Apparently there isn’t that much in the way of instructions. Mina said that instead of letting a mental assault batter against your mind directly, just try to direct it so that it flows around you instead. The mental attack becoming the wave that crashes against the rock of your mind. It’d hit, but in the end it ultimately does very little to the rock, receding without any ill effects on the rock. Do not make your mind into a gate, which can be torn open, but rather into a rock.

A few hours later you awaken from your trace, confident that you’ve sharpened your mind a little closer into that rock like status.

It gave some time for Brothen to go outside, for him to get out of the castle so the adults could do things for a while, and Brothen excited that this’d be a field trip for him. While you’d be accompanied by two royal guards at all times, that’s more of a good thing as it’d make people question you less.

“What’s the history of this building!?” Brothen says, pointing out to the bath house as he runs down the street.

Brothen might blab about us being Mr. Brooklyn and that'll grab his attention and he might turn on Aura Sight. He might scan the crowds as we walk and talk and that'd involve him turning on Aura Sight. He might want to gauge our emotions or just turn it on for shits and giggles.

He also gets more time in our presence and might pull some Social Magic on us, which is bad, because we couldn't resist that without it being readily apparent.

If he does see that our Aether burns brighter than most we may be able to bullshit our way out of it, say that we're one of the few people who is naturally able to channel Aether, but that's risky and will garner more suspicion than I like.

Brothen's not drunk and knows our situation so I doubt he's a risk. Hell, I was one of the votes for staying home and working on concealing our aura, but now that he's here I think it's more risky to try to get rid of him. I already voted too, so whatever.

The tour finally ends with you taking Brothen out to a sweets job and getting him a cookie.

On your back to the house, you turn on your aura sight to look at the rose. You can tell something is odd about it. Unlike the rest of the environment which appears to be rather bland in colour, the rose appears to be in full colour. This is somewhat surprising, but you’re not sure what this means.

Upon reaching your house, you put the rose in a vase above your fireplace. Mina appears to be deep in her own meditation. Then you head back to your concentration you had the other day of trying to perfect your invisibility powers. You begin to use your powers once again. Once you can feel the aether flow through you, you gently try to nudge it aside. Using Mina’s example of the water and the rock. You let the aether flow around you rather than trying to stop it full stop.

It is then you can finally see your form becoming transparent, before you suddenly vanish from sight altogether. However when you take a step, the first thing that happens is that you trip, since you cannot see your feet and fall the floor, decloaking in the process. OK you’re clumsy, but at least you got it down pat.

You make a sour face as you continue to prepare your tea, instead just making a Soliogram butler to finish making the tea for you. You walk over to Ada, wrapping your arm around her shoulders and hugging her close.

Ada sighs as she looks in her tea. “You wouldn’t understand, and I’m aware of how stereotypically teenage like that sounds, it’s true. It is not uncommon for a Laminian to go through such as phase in their lives. It is frustrating to see your companions and friends grow up around you, but you remain stuck in the body of a child. Even if I pushed my shapeshifting, I couldn’t make myself appear much older.”

You’re afraid that you’re going to have a fight break out in the house, but what surprises you is that Ada seems to calmly keep her composure and sip her tea, ignoring Mina.

“Fate magic I think. Needless to say I don’t think the alarm would go off just to deliver a harmless letter. If anything they’d relish a chance to have duels of honor.” Ada says.

As you look over Mina’s letter, you can see that it’s in an entirely different language altogether. The letters appear like nothing more than chicken scratches. A small map on the back shows the location of the fight, and the only thing in English is her name at the bottom, “Crimson Goddess of Love”.

We do not go in melee with him. We do not even consider it. We stay back and spam tracking explosion shots, tentacles, and lasers, Mina and Brodin go in melee with Brodin focusing on protecting the squishier members of the party, he should also go full Avatar of Death of Blizzarios at a good time. Mina punches him in the face and Ada sneak attacks him, injects him with C-Toxin, and uses invisibility to not get hit and constantly backstab him and hit weak points.

I'd personally prefer them used in the sneak attacks so we're sure we get the most use out of them, if Mina holds them in her fists a lot of them won't get through, he'll be able to hit that hand make her lose her grip, and so on. We don't have that much of it and I want to make the most efficient use of it as possible.

Also Ada almost certainly gets bonus damage to sneak attacks which might apply to the C-Toxin damage.

“Good. Use these as your first attack on the knight.” You say passing Ada four needles and a container of C-Toxin.

“...What in the netherrealm is this?” Ada asks looking over the syringes and C-toxin canister.

“A special set of throwing syringes and poison made by Demon Queen Miyu herself. The poison is well past it’s due date, but considering whom it was made by it should pack quite a punch. The needles themselves were capable of punching through the plate armor of Demon King Valvatosa himself, so all you need to do is make them hit. Just be careful with those. We don’t have that many and we cannot afford to waste them.” you tell her.

Ada’s eyes grow wide in surprise as she begins to inspect the . “Oh my! Yes this is certainly better than anything I’ve got! The only problem with these appears to be the scarcity of them, but a justifiable expense with ten years of work on the line.”

“I’m pretty full, so I think I’m good.” you reply. You’re not 100% full, but you definitely have most of your energy reserves.

“Pretty full? Not bursting? Oh! Why don’t we all go out and get something to eat then!?” Mina suggestions.

Hm... A quick bite to eat before you head to bed wouldn’t hurt. Or should you spend some more time training?
