I had someone ask for a Hana Sketch earlier yesterday. I figured I would post it, with another few things. If you guys want me to draw some new stuff, just request!

Wow. That's cool. Incidentally, here is a little preview of the story featuring her, though it is nothing to do with this picture.
>>
>>22278289

Suddenly there was silence in the ranks, and as I turned my horse about I could see why. A new figure had joined us. Unlike my brothers the newcomer was clad in a bright red coat with gold trim which caught the light, not the grey lamellar of my Kheshig brothers. The Newcomer’s horse was a cyber-steed, a fusion of flesh and metal which could ride harder and endure more than our steeds of flesh and blood. The figure wore no helmet, revealing a high tail of hair.

We all knew who it was. We all bowed in our saddles.

“Stand easy.” The Khan commanded. The Khan, the leader of all the Auxilia, my commander, my bloodsworn ward. The Khan rode up to me, and once again I bowed.

“The men are in place, my Cherbi. We await your command.”

Cherbi, the honourific given to the commander of the Kheshig, the most important person in all the Auxilia, the representative of the Khagan Himself. But our Khan was far more than that, far more.

The Khan glanced over at the neat diamonds of the Kheshig and the Rough Riders all poised ready to charge, and looked back to me. “You make it seem so easy Tevguul. You remind me that I still have much to learn.”

“My Khan, I only do what you command. This was all your plan, your idea; all I did was execute it. Will you lead us in the hunt my Khan, my Cherbi?”

Hana Khan, daughter of the Khagan and Lady of the Auxilia smiled that smile it seemed she saved only for me.

“Tevguul, my warrior poet, I would be honoured.”

>>
>>22280631
Within the realm of the 'why not.' Like most /tg/ projects. This is an older one, though, it goes back about...wow, three years ago? Look up 'Warhammer High' on the wiki.
>>
>>22280609
No, I was the guy who said I didn't much care for the tone of the WHH setting when you claimed I was not allowed to criticize WHH without first writing a piece for it. I also made a joke about lesbians since that seems to be a touchy issue around these parts and you instead latched onto that and called me a troll who has never read anything you guys have written. Which I suppose is in part true, since I have only read a smattering of it, but more than enough to form a valid opinion on the matter.

Shame you can't be more civil, though.

To be fair, he has received a lot of hate recently for what he does, and it's hardly suprising he'd act this way.
Would you do any different if you slaved away at stories for /tg/, only for haters to dog you for them, haters who offer no legit literary criticism?

Also, isn't a trap something from DnD, not 40k?

In most cases, when folks are accused of "not taking criticism", it's coming from folks who can't give criticism, and try to pass of their rage as it to add a false sense of legitimacy to it while downplaying what it actually is.
>>

>>
>>22282030

>>
>>22282129
ROAD TRIP! is it's name. Yes, with caps and exclamation. It's the longest /tg/ original story ever written, at over two hundred thousand words. It's on the 1d4chan article for WHH at the bottom of the page.
>>
>>22282057
The original premise was goofy as fuck.
>The Horus Heresy has been preempted and now the Primarchs are no longer needed. In order to keep them busy the Emperor gives them...daughters?! Watch Warhammer High, new episodes Wednesday 7/8 PM!
Instead we ended up with Angsthammer 40,000 crimson tears of sadness that mom and dad just wouldn't understand!
>>
>>22282177
> Angsthammer 40,000 crimson tears of sadness that mom and dad just wouldn't understand!
That's a lie.
>>
>>22282030
Cutting is about as angsty as you can get, even if they get over it.
>Doesn't the fact that she's cutting rather remove her from 'waifu' realm completely?
Not at all, it makes her one of those "tragic beauty" types that are oh so common in tween girl fiction.
>>
>>22282229
No, it doesn't, actually.

After she confronts her behavior, she asks several friends and relatives what she should do about it. She gets therapy and finds herself a few new friends to help her get a new outlook on life. After a few months, she's sworn it off for good. It doesn't make the scars fade, and it doesn't address her root cause for it, but she's come out more self-aware and responsible. She spends precisely zero page time angsting over it after the fact, and like any normal person, she then discusses it as infrequently as possible.

So I've read about on 1d4chan, read a couple stories from it. Seems like a fun idea, and there were a couple pieces of writefaggotry about guys who are taking the daughters out on a date meeting the Primarchs themselves and all that. So, what would meeting Sanguinius be like?
>>
>>22294607
Terrifying. He was the pinnacle of martial and psychic might in one being that isn't the Emperor. I'd be spooked as fuck.
>>
>>22294624

>the pinnacle of martial and psychic might

Magnus is the pinnacle of Psychic might, and Angron or Mannus is the peak of Physical might.
>>
>>22294701
Yeah, but Sanguinius was the best example of the two at once. Or something. Shit's confusing, but the guy was a winged terror.
>>
>>22294719
in KNF he was described as being "too etherial" whatever that means.
>>
>>22294732
I think that's basically describing his personality as being 'too refined', a reasonable critique if being levelled by warriors on his nature in combat.
>>
>>22294767
maybe. the context though was why Sanguinus couldn't be Warmaster.
>>
>>22294788
Yeah, that's a personality dig saying 'he's too fancy, too nice, too unwilling to lower himself to the mud to fight campaigns, and doesn't have enough bloodlust in him'.
>>
>>22294732
>in KNF he was described as being "too etherial" whatever that means.

It's all good. I read that post as "I'll have a lil word file..." like you were ordering a drink. Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, I was staring unfocused at the screen for a bit trying to figure that one out.

I'm reading through ROAD TRIP! atm... Here are two opinions:
1) The dialogue seems.... well off. Mostly during scenes that are specifically related to different emotional issues that arise, not wanting to go into specifics. I can't say I enjoy myself reading through the drama, and I usually frequent KSG, but it seems like no one actually makes a decision as a character. I can't say that I feel these characters can grow. They just seem to be different mouths for the same thought processes. The more action oriented parts feel more natural, however, and shows the characters very well IMHO.

2)Having read the 2/3 's of the Salamanders' books I enjoyed seeing more of Nocturne. I just don't believe it was a good choice for a WHH fiction. That's my opinion though, not trying to be insulting, especially since the point of it is to take them outside of the usual setting.

Overall though I am enjoying reading this, and especially appreciate the effort. Look forward to more stuff!

nah, they just spammed em everywhere.

but either way bust charts are usually good for a lark and if anything help prevent people from taking said OCs too seriously.

That is far, FAR too late here when this whole shindig is built on trying to evoke ''feels'' with pedantic shit like cutting and anger management pills and then tossing a few orks on the side to call it 40K.

fair enough. I admittedly only read very few of the writefaggotry on them. the few i have were quite humorous, the "meet the primarchs" ones especially.

i am in this thread because i appreciate the art.

Day Three

Saal was flung from sleep, desperately gasping for air. Tonight’s dream was a bad one. He had been running through an urban hell, a twisted maze of buildings lit by Drumfires and hooded lanterns hanging from hooks on makeshift lamplighter posts, casting a hellish flickering illumination on the walls of the buildings around him. He was being pursued by someone or something, and he was filled with fear. There had been a woman with him in the dream, but he couldn’t remember her name or face, or why he had been so desperate to defend her. During the chase, he thought he had seen a figure gesturing at him, but the figure had vanished into the gloom.

As he rubbed the sleep from his eyes he growled to himself. He really needed to get some help about these dreams, they were killing his sleep. His dreams were one of the few things he couldn’t control, and he hated that. But control was his once again now, and he had a lead to investigate.

At the Precinct Courthouse, he went straight to the Judge’s office to inform him of his finding from last night and what he was planning on doing down in level eight, in case he needed to call in support or backup.
Reinhold was out, another meeting to do with the upcoming visit Huulta guessed, so he left a short note for the Judge and set off for the armoury.
>>
The lowerhive regions were the most dangerous in any Hive City and Tetra was no exception. What was more, Warehouse 27-B was located close to the central spire-spine of the Hive where the bulk of the lowerhive gangs liked to lurk. Huulta had not gotten to where he had got to without being prepared for any contingency, and this would be no exception. He stocked up on shells for Oathkeeper, extra gas and stun grenades, a pair of breaching charges in case he had doors or walls to get through and he asked the armoury Techpriest to have a once over on his Plasma Pistol, make sure it was working and bless its machine spirit so it wouldn’t overheat on him. Huulta didn’t know why, but he had a feeling something was waiting for him in that warehouse, and he would be ready for it.

After all that was said and done and he was confident he was ready, Huulta went back to his office and found Zofall there already, reading through a Verispex report.

He looked up at Huulta, and started. “Saal, you’re loaded for bear. You’ve found something, haven’t you?”

“Level Eight. A Warehouse where our two victims met to exchange material just over a week before Zahael was murdered. It’s the only link between them, and the best lead we’ve got so far. I’m investigating.”

Zofall struggled to his feet. “Let me come with you Saal, you’ll need all the help you can get in case these Chaos Bastards or whoever is responsible have something planned for anyone on their trail.”

Saal shook his head. “I appreciate your offer Zofall, but I can handle this on my own. I’m loaded for bear, remember? And you are a little unfit for fast moving combat, it’s those big breakfasts Illana makes for you.”

Zofall grimaced. “I get your point. Very well Saal, but if you need me, I’ll be the first one down there. And don’t let me say I told you so.”
>>
“I won’t. If there’s anything down there, I’ll find it. We have the Ordo to beat after all.”

Saal strode out and headed for the Garage. It was an hour’s drive downhive, and he planned to make a head start on it.

---

The central lowerhive regions were always the worst in any Hive City, vast packed warrens of humanity where the teeming throngs of humanity vied with each other for space, where the vast majority of lowerhive citizens would never once witness natural sunlight, breathe unpolluted air or touch a real tree and life was nasty, brutal and short. Not even Tetra was immune from the curse of the Hive despite the circumstances of its construction and its position as a vital fortification on Macharia.

There was no natural light down here, only the harsh light of massive roof lumen strips which lit up the grungy, dirty landscape. Urban decay was everywhere down here and almost every building was tagged with graffiti and gang slogans. Huulta noted that many of those slogans were derogatory towards the Arbites, and Huulta thought about having a team sent down here to expunge those anti-Arbite slogans and prosecute those who wrote them. That would be for after this case was done, one thing at a time.

Huulta dismounted from his Lawmaster outside a shopping complex and activated its perimeter control system. The last thing he wanted was someone trying to steal it while he was at his investigations. Not that it would work for them, like Oathkeeper or his pistol it was coded to his DNA, so no-one else could use it, but if it was trashed he would be stuck down here for hours before pickup, and some brave or foolish idiot may want to ‘waste him’ as the local dialect called it while he was trapped down there alone. It had happened before.
>>
People scattered the moment he roared into view, ducking into the shops or fleeing like he was out to get them personally, and he could sense the faces fearfully peering at him from behind closed doors and windows as he set off towards the warehouse. Down here, the Arbites were hated and feared as the visible hand of the law which they saw as oppressing them.

A few people didn’t immediately leave at his arrival. They just sat or stood there, staring at him with glassy eyes peering out from sickly pale faces. Huulta didn’t need to be a medical expert to know they were on drugs. Huulta made a mental note that if they were still there when he got back; he would book them for the possession of illegal narcotics. Punishment, two years imprisonment in the cubes. He would book them right now, but he had more pressing issues. But when he got back…

Oathkeeper in his hands and finger on the trigger, he set off into the rockrete wilderness. News of his arrival preceded him; he strode down deserted streets, with the only signs of life being scurrying rats and the occasional stray dog.

The tinny sounds of the latest popular song, ‘bang-gang style’ sounded from an abandoned music player, the only human sound Huulta could hear. The deserted streets bothered him, were gangs being informed of his arrival even now? Would he arrive at the warehouse to find it empty and any evidence destroyed or lost?
>>
He knew the exact warehouse the moment he saw it. He had viewed pict-cap images of the warehouse and examined its blueprints before he came down here. Anything to give him a tactical edge in case things blew up. Like everything in Tetra, it was built like a fortress so it could be defended in case enemies broke into the hive. The windows were narrow gun slits and the doors reinforced iron. He knew from bitter experience that in gang wars and Arbite sweeps these ready-made fortresses became utter pains to deal with, with the Arbites needing to call in a Repressor to break into them. He hoped this wouldn’t be one of those times.

Switching on his helmet’s infra goggles and their thermogram vision, he could see the heat signatures of several figures inside the warehouse at the windows. Lookouts most likely. There was a gang in residence in this particular warehouse. Had they moved in after the meeting between Zahael Joernia and Saepthus Sybort? Or were they linked with the two of them and their fate? Were these the ones responsible for their horrific murders? All questions he was about to try and find answers for. He would try it nicely first, ask them and see if any would respond. If not, then he would have to forcibly interrogate one or more of them, take them down while the gang scattered and grill them back at the Precinct Courthouse.

He emerged and strode out in plain view of the sentries, letting them get a good look at him. His hearing implants could pick up the faint sounds of one of them murmuring something, but he could not make out the words or who he was saying it to. When he was only a few dozen metres away from the Warehouse entrance, he stopped and activated his helmet’s voice amplifier.
“This is Proctor Saal Huulta of the Adeptus Arbites. I just want to ask you a few questions regarding two individuals who met here twelve days ago. Did you see either of them?”
>>
No answer. The figures at the windows didn’t move or acknowledge his request; it was like they hadn’t heard him. They were still there, his implants could hear them breathing, and a series of clicking sounds.

He was about to speak again when a sharp ‘whizz’ buzzed past his head like an angry wasp. Before he even knew what he was doing he had thrown himself into cover behind a pile of metal debris including a rusty groundcar as more of these wasps flew at him.

They were not wasps. They were bullets. He was under fire!

He did not let his emotions carry him away as others would. His iron control would not let them. Zofall had described him as a ‘robot’ in these situations, which Huulta took as a compliment.

He lifted his left arm and spoke into his implant. “Control, this is Huulta, we have a situation down on level eight, I am under fire. Over.” He was greeted by static. He tried again, and again nothing but static. He cursed. The Gang must have a stummer hidden somewhere in the warehouse, blocking his communications. This was no common lowerhive rabble. That was reinforced when a deeper, heavier throaty stutter cut through the air and the twisted metal he was concealed within shook under the impact of heavy shells. A heavy stubber, probably stolen from one of the many weapons depots in Tetra used to arm the civilians in the event of a long siege. He was in the deep end now.

He took stock of his options. He was cut off from control and pinned down by enemy fire. Normally, Arbites would fall back under these sorts of circumstances. No one Arbite, regardless of training, would ever look to take on this many foes at once. But Saal Huulta was not your normal Arbite.

He activated his helmet’s voice amplifier once again and sent a clear message to his tormentors. “Hear me lawbreakers. Your crimes are the possession of illegal weaponry, proscribed activity, and the attempted murder of an Arbite. You have all been judged. The sentence is death.”
>>
Now it was time to take the offensive, to pass judgement upon those who dared to break the law. His first priority now was to silence that heavy stubber. It was blocking him from advancing either forward or backwards, and he was going forwards now.

He always came prepared for anything, even something as bad as this. This was why he had visited the armoury before he set off; this was why he had stocked up on extra shells and equipment. It was unlikely for such a thing to happen, but now that it had his caution was rewarded.

Oathkeeper was voice-activated, so he could select his rounds in combat without needing to change magazines, but it usually didn’t carry this particular type of shot. He carefully took and manually loaded the red tipped shell into his shotgun. The ‘Executioner’ adamantium-tipped guided armour piercing round, designed to seek out and destroy the toughest targets, like Gangers hiding in a warehouse with a heavy stubber.

“Executioner.” He growled, and the shotgun beeped in readiness as it chambered the round ready for firing. He waited for a pause in the heavy stubber’s shooting as the operator reloaded.

He seized his chance, leaned out of the cover, exhaled and fired.

He remembered when his instructor had first taught him about the ‘Executioner’ round, over a hundred years ago. “This sophisticated shell has a tiny robot brain that locks onto the target’s energy pattern and seeks it out with unerring accuracy. The shell’s tiny brain cannot lock onto its target until it has travelled several metres, so do not use it if you are less than five metres away from your target. Understood!?”

If that instructor could see him now, he would probably run out and kill himself under the heavy stubber’s shots. He had no idea if he was that far from the target, and he could only hope that the distance would be enough.
>>
The heavy stubber stopped shooting, and Saal knew this was his moment. He had to move, and fast. He covered the two dozen metres to the warehouse in a run, blasting several windows he knew had gangers behind them with Oathkeeper as he went. Judging by the sounds, he hit at least one of them. The second to be judged. They would all be judged.

Up against the sheer wall of the warehouse, he was out of their line of fire, and could now work out a plan of attack. He had to take out the stummer so he could contact Control, and judge as many of these lawbreakers as possible while he was at it.

He pulled his first breaching charge from his belt, plucked the priming strip out with his teeth, and set it on the armoured door, pulling a stun grenade from his belt as he did so, growling at Oathkeeper, “Scatter.” The doors were armoured to resist most firepower, but a well placed breaching charge would blow it open regardless. Two seconds.

With a harsh, flat ‘bang’ the doors were flung open, and straight away he threw the stun grenade through the hole and a few seconds later followed it in, Oathkeeper tracking for targets.

Inside the Warehouse was a vast empty space with several catwalks threading across the space above him. The floor space was empty apart from some metal barrels presumably used as braziers and several stripped groundcars. Why would his two victims want to come here? He could count nine gangers clustered on the main catwalk spanning the centre of the space, all armed with standard issue Autoguns, and not the usual stub guns most lowerhive and underhive gangs used. No ordinary gang at all.

They were too far from the stun grenades blast to be fully affected and they yelled and pointed at him as he threw himself behind several empty drums. Bullets spat out at him, ricocheting off the bare metal of the drums.
>>
Mentally he mapped out the space and his tactical options, linking into his implants for details. Multiple armed targets, obstructed line of sight. Best tactic: Executioner rounds to pick off the enemy from a position of safety. Unfortunately he had only brought two ‘Executioner’ rounds down with him, otherwise he would have sniped all the gangers one by one. He had one left, only one shot which would never miss. Were any of these gangers worth the shot?

No, but as his implants showed him the design schematics of the warehouse, he knew something else was. Something that would take them all down in one go.

“Executioner,” her growled into Oathkeeper, and then with a single move he aimed and fired. The guided bullet sped across the open space and impacted on the catwalk’s main weight-loading bar, which split in two under the impact. Within seconds the catwalk could no longer support the weight of the gangers clustered upon it, and it fell with a scream of tortured metal.

The Gangers were sprawled out amidst the wreckage of the catwalk struggling to get up. They never had a chance. His first shot took the lead ganger in the chest, his second through the throat of another. One by one he judged the others, coldly and mechanically. They had dared to defy Imperial Law, now they paid the price.

More gangers appeared from the catwalk entrances above him, trying to overwhelm him by weight of numbers. This was a very big and well organised gang, nothing like that he had expected. This was the sort of gang which required entire patrol squads to deal with, or Saal Huulta.

He hadn’t won the Praeses-Region shooting competition for the last hundred years and more running for nothing. He never missed.
>>
“Manstopper,” he said to Oathkeeper, and then he coolly picked his targets. Every time a ganger made a try for him, he shot them down. Like a sniper he picked off his foes one by one, but there seemed to be no end to their numbers. For every one he killed, another run came running to join his brothers in battling the Arbite.

Oathkeeper beeped empty. He reached for another magazine, then decided against it. What he needed now was raw killing power and something that would frighten the enemy and break his spirit, something to stack the odds in his favour. He drew his Plasma Pistol and muttered a benediction to its machine-spirit so it wouldn’t overheat. He would rather keep his arm.

One of the gangers burst into view and he fired. A bolt of incandescent blue-white light stabbed from the conical barrel and struck the ganger in the chest, which vaporised in the sun-hot beam. The ganger’s scream was cut short and his charred remains collapsed in a smoking pile of scorched armour and liquid flesh.

He saw where another one was hiding and took another shot. Both the ganger and the metal crates he was hiding behind evaporated in a searing explosion of plasma.

The gangers evaporated after that. He judged several more as they tried to run, but before long there were none left, the few survivors fleeing from justice. Normally he would have pursued them, but he didn’t have enough ammo and they could be calling for backup against him. He needed to do the same.

“Control, are you receiving me?” he spoke into his left implant. This time a voice responded.

“Copy Huulta, we ready you loud and clear. What happened? You fell off the grid for a while.”
>>
“I came under fire by a lowerhive gang, very well equipped and organised. I’ve driven them off, but I need a backup squad, a Verispex squad and a disposal squad to take the bodies for recyc.” Nothing went to waste in a hive, not even the dead. They were rendered down into nutrients to fuel the hydrophonic gardens which fed most of Tetra. Huulta knew one day his body would be there as well, but he hoped that wouldn’t be for some years to come.

“Copy Huulta, they’re on their way.”

Huulta had some time to check the Warehouse out before his fellows arrived. The damage caused by the gun battle wasn’t major apart from the destroyed catwalk, but any evidence which may have been here was most likely gone now.

Walking up to the catwalk, he took a second look at the ones he judged. Underhive scum by the threadbare cut of their tattered old clothing, the scars on their bodies and the milky paleness of their skins. Tetra had a smaller underhive compared to normal hives, but it was there all the same. People lived there to get away from the law, though the law followed them down regardless. One of them was wearing an ex-PDF overcoat with markings crudely stencilled upon it. A gang leader or chieftain, most likely the one who was leading them here. He reached down, and then he saw it. Carved into the man’s flesh just below his throat was a circle and eight pointed star. They weren’t just gang members, they were cultists. Chaos Cultists. Checking the others, he saw they too had the same symbols carved into their flesh in various places. Were these the ones who killed Joernia and Sybort?
>>
As he checked down the line of what he knew now were cultists, he heard something coming from one of them. Turning the last one over, the ganger moaned. Huulta has shot him in the join between his shoulder and neck. Huulta mentally chastised himself for his Sloppiness. Despite the injury, the cultist was still alive. Pity for him. Huulta’s little mistake was now a blessing in disguise; he now had someone to interrogate. The answers would be his.

---

“You know what I’m about to say, but I have to say it: I told you so.”

Huulta grimaced at Zofall’s words. True to his word, Zofall had been among the first ones down, riding his lawmaster at the head of the Arbite column. It had been barely twenty minutes before the Arbite response team had powered up to the warehouse, five of them riding bikes and a full squad in an Arbites Repressor, with a Rhino carrying the Verispex team and disposal squad. Straight away half the squad set off in pursuit of the cultist gang, while the rest secured the warehouse for the Verispex team. Saal had stood outside with his captive, making sure he was still alive. The bastard would soon wish Huulta had killed him once the questioners started working on him, sure as sure.

“Saal, you could have got yourself killed down here. It seems you’ve stirred up one hell of a nest of vipers. Chaos Cultists active in Tetra, a few days away from an important visit? There’s going to be hell to pay for this.”

Zofall was right. They had suspected Chaos worshippers to be the ones responsible, but now that they had solid proof it didn’t make things any better. Another sweep would have to be organised in case there was more than one, and the Ordo called in to aid in the purge. In such a critical location as the Cadian gate, internal chaos cults could not be allowed to exist, to offer a backdoor entry for the forces of the Eye. Saal had just ensured the next few months of his life would be hectic, worse even than the upcoming visit.
>>
“You’re probably right Zofall. But at least we know Chaos was to blame for this, we now know what we’re up against and we can make a plan of attack for when the big sweep happens. Do you think Reinhold will lead the sweep in person?”

“He hasn’t led a field mission in years, but I wouldn’t put it past him. I think he’ll relish the chance to get out from behind his desk and do something hands on for a change. But that is in the future. What matters now is sorting this bloody mess out. Apart from your captive, did you find anything else, any other clues or evidence?”

“No. If there was anything, the cultists must have destroyed it.” Huulta scowled. “Bastards seemed to know I was coming. There might be sympathisers around here who informed them. I’ll get the duty officer to question some of the locals, see what we can dig up.”

“Do that quickly, the Judge will want to de-brief us personally and inform us where we go to next. He will also want to know about him.” Zofall gestured at the captive.

Huulta had one more thing to add. “There were a number of illegal narcotics users where my Lawmaster is parked. Have they been picked up yet?”

“There was nobody there when we came through Saal. They must have fled at the disturbance.”

“See if anyone can be spared to hunt them down. They broke the law, they must be punished.”

If the drive down had been fraught with tension, the drive back uphive was stooped in the heavy knowledge of what they had uncovered, and what that now meant for the investigation and for Tetra itself. The deep end had suddenly become that much deeper.

As Huulta had expected, the Judge was unavailable, busy trying to handle the newfound situation. They were informed that the Judge would call them the moment he was free. Huulta and Zofall went back to their office to write their After Action Reports of the incident and wait for the Judge’s summons.
>>
Huulta lifted his datapad onto his desk, tapped a button on the side and watched as a pair of dendrites, slithering fine silver wires each no thicker than a human hair yet capable of carrying vast amounts of information emerged from the edge of the datapad and each one slithered over to him. He grunted at the momentary pain as in a single fluid motion each penetrated into one of his forearms, linking into the implants buried underneath the flesh of both arms. Zofall grimaced at the sight, as he did every time Huulta did this. Zofall disliked the idea of implants and how they permanently linked you to your work, forever binding you with your purpose. But that was Huulta in a nutshell, devoted to his duty at the expense of all else. Huulta typed, data from his implants bleeding into the report to corroborate his statements, his memories transferred into the document, picts taken from his own eyes and what he saw, records of the exact number of shots fired and numbers killed and wounded. Every single tiny detail no matter how seemingly insignificant pulled out and set down. That was how Huulta liked it, no detail left out. The perfect statement.

Huulta finished typing, proofread the report and immediately sent a copy to central and another to Zavi Rulae for recording and processing. He would give the main copy to the judge when he saw him so that he could check for himself. The dendrites removed themselves from his arms and slithered back into the datapad.

Zofall gave out one of his characteristic grunts as he sent his own report off as well. “Nothing for it, all we can do now is wait for the judge to see us. I hope he’s in a good mood.”

Huulta’s characteristic frown deepened. “We just uncovered a nest of cultist scum hiding out in his hive on the eve of a big visit. The last thing he’s going to be is in a good mood.”
>>
“You’re absolutely right Saal. Well, he won’t be angry at us at least, in fact he’s probably happy we pulled this out into the open, though it couldn’t have come at a worse time.”

Huulta nodded as he filed another report, this one typed out normally to Zofall’s relief. “Do you think the big visit will be postponed or cancelled because of this?”

Zofall shook his head, his beard flowing wildly. “Not likely. Besides, what can a rabble of deluded chaos worshippers do to interfere?”

Huulta had no answer for him, and he didn’t want to contemplate what these cultists might have planned. If Magda was right and the mysterious visitor was a Primarch, then what foul scheme could they have planned to do with Him, whoever He may be?

---

The summonses to the Judge’s office could not have come sooner. It had been over four hours since the incident on level eight, and the entire precinct courthouse was humming with newfound tension at Saal’s discovery. It was late afternoon, five hours after Saal had returned from the lowerhive and Zofall had been busy packing up ready to go home when the message finally came through.

Immediately the two dropped everything and hastened to the lift and up through the precinct courthouse. As they went a number of the non-Arbites support personal moving in the corridors stopped and stared at them as they passed the ones who had uncovered this mess and were responsible for now complicating their lives. It was not their fault of course, but Huulta suspected they would be receiving a fair few glares from the non-Arbites before all this was over.

The first clue that things were different was the presence of an Arbite guard standing outside the Judge’s office. Not only did he check both their ID cards, but also did a biometric scan as well. Huulta’s black mood only darkened.

They entered to find the Judge on his vox, bellowing loudly into it as he paced around the room.
>>
“…I told you, this changes nothing. The visit will go ahead as planned. There will need to be a minor increase in lowerhive security, but the Orpo can deal with it. Have I made myself clear?” he disconnected and gave an apologetic smile to Huulta and Zofall.

“Sorry about that, sorry about all of this you two. We’ve been thrown into one hell of a state by your discovery. An active Chaos Cult in Tetra? It’s a disaster. I’ve already spoken to the Lord Castellan of Cadia, he wants this problem dealt with as quickly as possible, before the Cultists do something like summon hellspawn or open a warp gate. The last thing the Imperium wants or needs is a hole in the wall, no matter how microscopic.”

Huulta nodded. Chaos worshippers anywhere were bad news, but this was the Cadian Gate, and even worse the Cadian System, the gate barring the forces of the Eye passage into the Imperium. Even a small hole here could mean disaster across the Imperium.

Huulta cleared his throat, and waited for the judge to nod before asking, “So sir, what do we do now? This has escalated far beyond anything we could have imagined. Are we to continue with the murder case, or are we to be involved in prosecuting the campaign against the cultists?”

“That is what I called you both in here for. Zofall, call your wife and tell her you’re going to be late. Saal, well just drop whatever it is you’re doing at the moment.”

“Why?” Zofall exclaimed.

“Because Proctor, we are all going to see someone important. You, Saal and I. Now come with me.” The Judge pulled an overcoat over his uniform and headed for the door. After a second, Huulta and Zofall followed.

“Where are we going?” Zofall asked as they went.

“You’ll find out in good time.” The Judge replied. “But this is of paramount importance."

Zofall opened his portable vox and slowed down slightly. Huulta felt sorry for him, Zofall was a committed family man and hated missing any time with his family.
>>
Reinhold stopped outside the lifts and together they waited for Zofall to rejoin them. After a few minutes of standing there in silence he joined them, displeasure in his eyes.

Huulta wondered where they were going when the lift opened at the top level. Who was there that they needed to see?
Reinhold lead them into the hanger, where the Arbites Valkyries, Coleopters and other aerial vehicles were kept and took off from.

“Sir, where are the hell we going?” Zofall asked insistently. Saal knew how he felt; he was getting a little worried as well. But he trusted Reinhold, and he knew whatever Reinhold wanted them for, it was obviously of. paramount importance

Reinhold smiled at them. “We’re going to see the Governor Proctor. He wants to have a word with us regarding the cultists and the case.”

“The…the Governor?” Zofall stuttered. Saal mirrored his shock. The head of Hive Tetra, representative to the ruling council of Macharia and a personal friend to the Lord Castellan of Cadia, and they were going to see him?

Unconsciously Saal looked down at himself and cursed his appearance. His uniform was still scuffed and torn, his armour scratched from his experience in the lowerhive. How could he be seen before the Governor in this?

Reinhold knew what the two of them were thinking. “Relax, it doesn’t matter what you look like. Just follow my lead and answer him truthfully and honestly. He likes that sort of thing.”

The transport was an Arbites Valkyrie in matt black, several Arbites already manning the door heavy bolters. Arbites Valkyries were used to transport teams through the high rises and spires of the upperhive and provide aerial support to lowerhive sweeps with their heavy weapons, the likes of which almost no gang can match. Rumour had it they were so feared that high bounties were rumoured to be offered for shooting one down.
>>
Reinhold, Huulta and Zofall climbed inside and belted up, and a few seconds later the Valkyrie ramp closed with a hiss and they took off and speared out into Tetra’s enclosed atmosphere.

The flight was long, but Huulta suspected they were circling for most of it. No conversation could be held over the roaring of the engines, so they all sat there, each lost in his own thoughts. How had a simple murder case devolved into this so quickly? It had been only two days since he’d found that horribly mutilated body down in level thirteen, and in that short time it had turned into a chaos conspiracy which now had the entire Cadian Gate on alert. Just his fugging luck.

Finally with a roar of retro-thrusters, the Valkyrie settled in to land. After a few seconds, the door began to hiss open and Saal blinked as his eyes readjusted to the light.

They were on a massive external landing platform, one big enough to hold the largest of transports, void capable craft. As he emerged from the Valkyrie and got a good look around, he realised why.

The Platform was attached to the Spinal-Spire, the central hub of the Hive, the spire which ran through the very centre of Tetra. It was there that the Governor had his office and where the Hive was commanded from in the event of a Siege. This was where. Huulta noted a number of Hydra Turrets and Aegis automated quad guns ringing the landing platform. This must be where the mysterious guest would be disembarking onto when they arrived on Tetra. Hardly surprising.
>>
The Spinal Spire was in the centre of the area known as the Cap, the very top of Tetra. The Armoured Skin here was built like the petals of some monstrous flower which could be closed up in the event of war, but which now was open to the void. It was early evening, and the distant sky was dark blue, slowly fading to black high above him. He had rarely seen the sky before, at least not from behind a metres-thick armourglass port set in the armoured hide, and he was entranced by its beauty. They were not facing the eye, so there was no sickly purple to the sky, but that would change in the days to come as Macharia’s orbit brought it closer. By the coming Saturday the whole sky would be swallowed up by the Eye, something no-one was looking forward to.

Snatching his gaze away, Saal’s eyes fell upon one of the eight control spires, each equidistant from the Spinal Spire and each other. They had not been built by Peturabo like the rest of the hive, but rather installed later to each act as a control point for one section of the hive after the ten year siege in late M35 when an electronic failure had left the Spinal Spire isolated for several days. Huulta didn’t know if they had ever been used for their intended purpose, but they still stood ominously above the Hive, dark reminders of the purpose of their lives here, to hold the gate shut and nothing else.

Reinhold hustled Zofall and Huulta out and they disappeared into the Spinal Spire, finding themselves walking through well-lit corridors of blue carpet and red walls. This was not the functional Precinct Courthouse they were used to.

Another lift, this time one that was plush and luxurious, not simple and spartan. Huulta could not feel at ease in such surroundings.

“Remember, just keep calm and let me do the talking.” Reinhold muttered as the lift chimed and the doors opened.
>>
They emerged into a massive open space near the very top of the Spinal Spire, occupying the entire length and breadth of that spire level. All four walls were made of armourglass so you could see in any direction, and the floors were lushly carpeted and patterned. A giant meeting room or ballroom, Huulta surmised. It certainly was atmospheric.

It was almost completely empty save for three figures standing in the centre around a portable holo-table. Huulta recognised the central one almost immediately.

Governor Alastair Grey of Hive Tetra was a tall, regal man who had run Tetra ever since the death of his father fifty years earlier. Huulta didn’t know if he was doing a better or a worse job, the crime level was still the same as always, way too damn high.

“Reinhold!” He called out warmly.

“Alastair!” Reinhold replied, and the two walked out to meet each other, Huulta and Zofall in tow.

After the usual greetings, Reinhold turned to Huulta and Zofall. “Alastair, this is Proctor Byrio Zofall and Proctor…”

“Saal Huulta, the most famous Arbite in the Segmentum Obscuras, over thirty thousand cases under his belt and only one, a single one not successfully brought to a satisfactory conclusion.” Grey was smiling. “The single most unbroken record in the entire history of the Arbites. It’s a pleasure to meet you Proctor Huulta.”

Saal let the Governor shake his hand, a bemused expression on his face. Saal had never cared for accolades or any reward for his service, he just did his job. He had heard that he was known of outside of the Cadian gate, but he had given it no thought. When he went home, he resolved he would make some inquiries.

They all clustered around the holo-table. The other two with Governor Grey were a Mechanicum Magos and an aide.

“This is Magos Rachavol, head of the Tetra Mechanicum, and this is my aide, Jurgen.”

Huulta nodded briefly to each of them, wrinkling his nose at Jurgen’s scent before taking his place beside the Judge.

“So Alastair is everyone here?”

“No, we still have to wait for one more person. It’s important that this other person is here as well.”

As he said this, the lift bell chimed behind him.

“And here she is.”

Huulta wanted to ask who ‘she’ was, but just then the doors opened to reveal their last guest.

Huulta was no expert, but even he had to admit that to a normal person she would be considered pretty. She was tall and slim; shoulder-length brown hair framing her face, her tight fitting bodyglove accentuated her thin hips and small breasts. But there was plenty of muscle on her and her every motion was graceful and fluid, reminiscent of the Eldar. She held herself with the ease of someone who knew they could stand up against anything or anyone and come out on top. A leaf-bladed sword and pistol holster were buckled to her belt, and a number of throwing knives were clustered about her person as well. She was a fighter, no doubt about that.

When she reached the others, she pulled a wallet off of her belt and flipped it open.

Inside was a rosette with an I and O with three bars through the middle.

The rosette of the Ordo Investigatorum, and with the azure mark of Special Condition, the grave, winged skull upon it to boot.
They all recognised it immediately. “Inq… the Ordo?” Zofall stammered.

“Ordo Investigator Isabelle De Shiloh, at your service.” She said, her voice ringing out like the chime of a bell, clean and slightly melodious.

>Pic is her rosette
>>
Saal bit back the tidal wave of distaste which flooded into him and threatened to overwhelm him. He knew immediately what she was doing here in Tetra. She was the one who was here to replace him and take over his case. He had hoped to close it before she had arrived, but he was too late, and as he was overcome by that realisation cold rage burned within him. At that moment she turned and looked at him with her amber eyes, matching his Aktick stare. For several seconds they glared at each other, her gaze cool and calculating, his burning with icy fury, an invisible battle of wills.

“Well met Investigator.” Reinhold smoothly interposed himself between Saal and De Shiloh, breaking the link. “It’s a pleasure to have a member of the Ordo Investigatorum with us today. I trust your flight from Nemesis Tessera was pleasant?” As he moved aside to let the Governor in, he shot Saal a look. Saal sheepishly nodded. This was no time to let his grievances air.

Once all the introductions were done, Governor Grey cleared his throat, and all fell silent. “Now that we are all here, we can get down to business.”

Saal stiffened. Now he would get the truth of the matter.

Grey continued, tapping some buttons on the holo-desk. “We’re meeting here because in a few days this will be ground zero. In less than a week this whole space will be full of tables, chairs and more. On the upcoming Saturday night a mighty feast will be held here for our guests.”

“What do you mean, ‘guests’?” Saal asked. If Magda was right, there would only be one. But now that was in doubt. Had she been wrong?
>>
Governor Grey glanced across the assembly. “What you are about to hear is to remain between us only and must not spread further under any circumstances. This is information so classified not even the ruling council of Tetra knows.” Saal’s first suspicion was confirmed. That was why Magda didn’t know about what was happening. Normally any goings on in the spire came to him from her. He appreciated her efforts to keep him informed.

“You all know about the visit, and the strains it’s putting on all branches of the administration. Normally this would be bad enough, but now you have uncovered a cult. A chaos cult in my hive, a few days out from an official Imperial visit, which has been engaged in a number of ritual sacrifices, the victims of which come from Legion homeworlds. Do you understand the dilemma I’m in? I cannot let a threat to our visitors remain, not under any circumstances.”

Governor Grey took a deep breath. “Ladies, Gentlemen, here is the situation. Our visitors are not some Terran bureaucrats or nobles dragged up to see if we are up to scratch. They are none other than eight of the Royal Daughters, who are coming to Tetra as part of their tour of the Cadian Gate defences, to meet with the Lord Castellan and the leaders of the Praeses and report back to their fathers and grandfather as to the state of our defences.”

That was enough to push Huulta over the edge. “What the bloody hell are they doing coming here? This is the Cadian Gate, the last place they should ever be. You said it yourself; hell is out there,” gesturing to where the infernal eye was hidden behind the curvature of the planet, “and they are walking right into it. What possible reason could you have for bringing them here?”
>>
His outburst did not catch them off guard. “Your personal views regarding the Royal Daughters are already known Proctor.” Governor Grey stated. “And it is also known that regardless of them, you will always do your duty, even if it involves those you dislike. And I did not bring them here. They chose to come here, if I had my way they would keep a long way away from the Eye. But they’re coming, they are scheduled to arrive on the upcoming Friday afternoon and it’s too late to postpone or cancel it.”

“That’s all well and good sir, but what has this got to do with the cult, or the murders?” Zofall asked.

“Everything. Two of the Daughters who are coming are the daughters of the I and X Legions.”

There was a sharp intake of breath, and Huulta realised it had come from him. The two victims were from the homeworlds of those legions. Judge Reinhold noticed his reaction.

“Proctor Huulta has it right. Two people have been murdered in obvious chaos inspired rituals, both from the homeworlds of two of our Daughter visitors. One is suspicious enough, two is a conspiracy. Even the most stupid can’t help but conclude that there has to be a link.”

“If the fell forces of chaos could get at the Royal Daughters, the results would be catastrophic.” Huulta turned in surprise to De Shiloh. This was the first time she had spoken since her introduction. “And that is most likely their intention.”

“But can Chaos get at the Royal Daughters?” the Magos asked.

“It’s Chaos sir.” Zofall stated. “It can get at anything.”

“So there we have it.” The Governor interjected. “The Daughters are on their way at the exact time a chaos cult is active sacrificing people for some foul ritual, and at least two of those people are from the homeworlds of two of the daughters. Now, what we are here to do is to determine what we do about all this.”
>>
“There is no need for discussion, the answer is clear.” De Shiloh said. “We must hunt down and destroy the cult, cut off the head of the snake before the daughters arrive. That’s why I’ve been sent here.”

Reinhold nodded. “Of course Investigator, this was expected. All the case files and reports have already been forwarded to you so you can glance over them before we start tomorrow.”

“I take it I am no longer attached to this case?” Saal did not attempt to hide the bitterness in his words.

Reinhold now turned to him. “No Saal, you will continue with your investigation, but you will not be alone. You are to be paired with Investigator De Shiloh.”

Saal scowled at De Shiloh, who smiled at him sympathetically. He didn’t know what was worse, working with an Ordo Investigator or having to deal with the Royal Daughters. He was in purgatory. At times like this, he needed facts to help reassert his iron control.

“So, apart from the Lady El’Jonson and the Lady Manus,” he practically spat their names out, “who are the others? Has anyone from their homeworlds been killed within the last few weeks or months under mysterious circumstances?”

“Already on the case I see.” The Governor smiled. “All the details will be forwarded to you tomorrow, when you two start. Investigator De Shiloh has to catch up on all your accumulated evidence first.”

“And I will make a start on that. Good night gentlemen.” With that, De Shiloh strode off. Saal scowled as he watched her go. Dealing with her for the next few weeks would tax him dear.
>>
Once they were in the lift and heading back to the landing pad, Saal confronted Reinhold.

“You knew? All this time, you knew and you said nothing?”

“I was under oath Saal, and I knew you would have this reaction. I’m sorry, but it only gets worse. You are to be one of the Arbite escorts for the Daughters when they arrive on Friday.”

Huulta was left speechless as he fumbled for a response.

“Are you fugging with me sir?” He finally blurted.

“No. Saal, like it or not you are famous far beyond Tetra or Macharia. There has never been an Arbite as single-mindedly devoted or successful as you. Even on Terra your name is known. To not have you as part of the escort would be a snub, and we can’t afford that. I know how you feel, we’ve known each other a long time and I sympathise with you. But we all must do our duty. Duty is what you’ve always done best, so do it.”

Saal was silent the whole flight back to the courthouse and the whole drive back home, until he was seated at his desk and began to realise what a mess he was in. The things he most despised, the Royal Daughters and the Ordo Investigatorum had now barged into his life and taken over. His case was still his, but now he had to share it with the Ordo Investigator. De Shiloh. This woman had just waltzed in and taken over. He dreaded the next few days as he learned how to work with her. He was truly in the shite now.

Huh. That's interesting. I've never been told that before. What about Alex's changes as a character? He starts the story as cocky, assured, faux-world-weary, and by the end he's lost a parent and started to understand the extent to which he's allowed others to dictate his future for him, and the price you pay for that.

>Nocturne
Well, I was tired of writing Terra, and I had just bought the Tome of Fire books, so I thought it was time for a change of scenery. Venus needed to see the planet she'd be ruling some day, anyway.

Thanks for reading, though, that's the kind of feedback I've been looking for all along.

Aye like I said I have enjoyed the Nocturne parts, and now that I'm getting in Fenris I'm enjoying those scenes as well. Been a while since I've read the Space Wolves omnibus but still good.

Specific to Alex there is definitely a mood change he undergoes. I'm just getting to the rock climbing bit, so if it changes after that I have yet to get to it. What I was trying to say before is that the characters don't act 'in-character' during some dialogue bits. There is a commonality between them that breaks my sense of them being individuals. Like the back and forth between Freya and Alex after Alex's dad dropped his bomb on Alex. That back and forth seemed unrealistic to me, again for their characters. I may have cringed too, but I said some pretty cringe worthy stuff when I was that age. So lets chalk that up to memories rather than writing.

Now one thing I am focusing on is my opinion of the characters, and how they act. Since this is basically a melting pot of writers' and artists' interpretations with no guiding fluff (apart from the heresy books for primarch and emp impressions) those interpretations obviously are different for us all.

So that colors my views obviously somewhat, but I feel the main critique that sometimes I can't tell who is talking from their speech leaves the dialogue... plain. Sure there must be similarities, because of their similar upbringings (granddad etc) the differences their upbringings would have had seem muted. I'm trying to be clear here but I'm not really a literary critique by profession or hobby, so I may be causing more bad than good. Just trying to get my two sense across as someone who reads prodigiously.

Whats that captcha? ieffler bringing.snow? Who is this person who claims the title snow bringer!?
>>
>>22304250

For you.
>>
>>22304281
Okay...well, I don't really know what to do about that. I specifically try to avoid relying on writing back and forth dialogue without identifiers and names in the lines, so you can tell who's talking. What do you mean by 'I can't tell who is talking from their speech'? You mean they speak with the same mannerisms and enunciation? If so, that's part of what I was shooting for. Remember that the five teens all grew up in the same town, at the same school. Whereas Big Al doesn't talk at all the same way as Ackur Redwind, and Vulkan doesn't even speak the same way as Rogal Dorn. So if the Daughters 'sound' alike, that's because it was deliberate. Contrast the mothers. Olivia Dorn and Misja don't sound a thing alike. There are scenes later in the Nocturne arc where Venus is speaking in Old Nocturnean, and her pacing, emphasis, and casual/formal tone balance are completely different from how Freya speaks when she's speaking in Fenrisian. Do you mean I should have done more or less of that?

I'm sorry, I just don't understand what you're saying. I'm pleased that you've read deep enough into the story to pick these things up, though.

Indeed, I am having a hard time being clear and concise. I apologize.

I believe my focus on their speech, specifically, is indeed their mannerisms etc. I believe the difference between them should be greater, given the disparity of their households. I believe Remilia mentions that HS is a shock since they were more or less tutored up till that point, and assuming (I know, I know) they were tutored at home, that environment would then have a greater impact on their behavior (as is well evidenced in their actions and monologues while explaining locations, customs, etc) and their speech (mannerisms of their parents etc). Of course the counter argument to that is the tutors were all Terran, or were even the same tutors. So there's that.

You do indeed to a good job of identifying who is speaking outside of the speech, I tend to start skipping the "X said" and "Y explained" and focus on what is actually being said, after a while. In that regard I am not finding myself saying (to myself, or truthfully, to my laptop's screen) "That seems like something A would say" or "That's believable for B to think and express that". So this is the focus on character I tried to make a hubah about last post. I suppose this also involves mannerisms, but I'm trying to focus on their personalities. Let me try an example, again since I am not good at this, in the next post because I'm also a blabber mouth.

So let’s say something happens to... Venus. She reacts to this vague thing according to her persona. If her reaction to this thing involves dialogue with her compatriots, defined as her sisters/cousins and Jake/Alex, versus her environment, defined as situations specific to her such as addressing... No'dan?, her (Venus still) reactions are different. It seems there are two Venus', one whose reactions are the same as her compatriots in mannerisms/patterns, and one whom acts like she was raised by Vulkan, and her speech towards her compatriots reflects this.
If I had to think of something that would fit Venus’ persona in dialogue to… Remilia… it might go like this(with absolutely no setup and written by someone who doesn’t write for fun):

“I wanted to thank you Venus, for letting me borrow Jake I mean. He… helped me out. With that thing… my Dad…”
“I’m glad he could help Remilia. We’re not so different that we can’t all look out for each other.”

Venus’ comments are supportive and reinforcing for Remilia, since I tried to base them on a general Salamander outlook on things. Live with the Nocturnians, assist Imperial Citizens etc. Remilia I just stole wholeheartedly from bleeding out and the depression while she was at Freya’s, with some Dorn indecisiveness thrown in about emotional subjects. My basis here is just what I remember of Firedrake for Venus and Nemesis/lexicanum's page on Rogal for Remilia.

Hopefully that makes things more clear, not less. If it makes it less, I'll get back to you tomorrow after spending some serious time in Word arranging my thoughts. This is all stream of consciousness as I'm writing so there is no real plan I'm following. I do enjoy the work, and I have been reading more. Just my 2 cents, like I said

Well no, I don't completely understand, but I think I get the gist of it.

>It seems there are two Venus', one whose reactions are the same as her compatriots in mannerisms/patterns, and one whom acts like she was raised by Vulkan, and her speech towards her compatriots reflects this.

That's the entire point. I'm very deliberately writing in that style. I truly don't WANT her to react the same way to everyone. She doesn't treat No'dan the same way she would her boyfriend.

Contrast Cora, who behaves the same way speaking to the press as she does to her friends, at least in my writings.

Is that what you mean? I sort of lost where you were going between paragraphs in that second post. As for your point about how the daughters should feel like they were raised in very different households, yes, I agree. They do behave that way, too, or at least I tried to make it seem that way. Apparently I either did it too little or too subtly.

Anyone else want to weigh in on this? Does anyone else feel that I don't make the Daughters dissimilar?

Tell you what.

If you want, here's the list of all WHH stories I've written. You can read them all in chronological order and do whatever you want with them in terms of illustrations, if you decide to at all. You've done more than enough.

Aye, their actions are spot on. The dialogue between them seems like it's not coming from the character their actions portray. So it switches back and forth from "daughter of a primarch" to "generic teenage girl, no way related to anyone of note". I suppose they want to act like generic teenage girls, but I don't think they entirely could.

I'm just trying (poorly) to point out what I felt could use some going over next time around. I hope I'm not coming off as a dick, or trying to dictate how you tell your stories. I aim more for "I felt this was weak, if you were to shore it up some I feel the overall message would be received easier" rather than "This was wrong, fix it"

i know that was hinted at in the "leak" but was any of that confirmed?

so far the only official notes i hear is that the Ultras seeing the tau an honorable foe and letting the Tau leave a planet before they bombed it. that said it's still the Ultras who are fighting the tau on a fairly consistant basis.

I think, as much of a copout as it sounds, that it's a relic of which girls are present. Venus behaves informally because the Salamanders do not place themselves above others. Freya behaves informally because she's a fucking Viking.
And Remilia's just in a rebellious phase.

If I were writing Victoria, Isis, Miranda, and Roberta, they wouldn't be switching back and forth between formal mode and informal mode so much.

On that note, the scene at the gala in Skarokk is as much juxtaposition as I think Venus will ever need to display. She switches from giving a Governor and a Rogue Trader orders to watching her cousin flirt in the space of one line. If that contrast feels stark, it was entirely deliberate.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write all this out.

I hope it gave you something worth while to take away from my ramblings! I enjoy reading stories like this, and who doesn't enjoy sharing their opinions? I just hope those of mine I share are helpful in some small way to writers of projects like this, or I wouldn't opine.

And since I believe this is overdue, considering the thread OP, I feel some art with Alpharia and Omegan would be neato. Since I just finished Krampus, by Brom earlier this month (you should all read it) how about we throw some Norse paganism into the mix. Since the twins are depicted as tricksters, but more importantly for this storytellers, how about them with two great ravens, one perched on a shoulder of each twin, getting ready to tell a tail. Extra points for Cora (the whole raven thing durr). I can't think of a good setting for this, maybe around a fire.... Please and thank you!

There are three main writefags, we are not all the same person. I am different from DE, just like SE is different from DM. I like getting legitimate ideas (not just 'More Lesbians!' or 'More Fapfics') from you guys, because there's a wealth of ideas by people who like this setting which can be exploited. Unfortunately people like you don't seem to agree.

>>22312871

Isn't that where is Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way comes from? What relevence does that have?

And they already have their own Daughters of Primarchs stories.
>>
>>22313196
"more lesbians" and "more fapfics" are actually the only legitimate ideas for such a thing
>>
>>22313196
You already know what you want from the characters and any outside contribution is deemed "noncanon", so why bother?
>>
>>22313354

Canon is whatever the author wants it to be. WHH, like anything 40k has loose canon. The Bleeding Out 'verse is not the same as the Morning with Cora 'verse. Each author makes their own interpretation of the general WHH 'verse. We three simply combined forces for our vision.

I wish more people whould write what they want for WHH. It can be "more lesbians" and "more fapfics". We are just the current three, and we're retiring after out next stories. Then others will take over, and they will decide what is canon and what isn't.

end rant, begin criticisms of my rant.
>>
>>22313967
[crit]Canon is what ever George Lucas wants it to be. Jar Jar Binks happened. Midichlorians happened.[/crit]

Why gods, oh why gods did they happen...

That said, since this is all loosely based on a loose idea, loosely, I'm pretty sure if some one doesn't like something about some piece (going for broke here) then they can just head cannon it away.

Day Four.

The harsh beeping of her chrono-implant pulled Isabelle De Shiloh out of her sleep, the time of zero-seven hundred hours flashing on her retinas and wearily she blink-switched it off. It had been less than eight hours she had arrived on Macharia, she had only slept for three of those, and she was still shaking of the last lingering effects of Warp-Lag from her trip from Nemesis Tessera.

She pulled herself out of bed and began her morning stretches. She was a practitioner of the old Terran art of Yougoua, a system of health and wellbeing exercises dating back to the kingdoms of old Indoi. Very few knew about Yougoua, but to her it was indispensable. It helped her focus, and more importantly maintain her trim, well muscled figure.

Once she was done with the exercises she donned her matt-black bodyglove, carefully made in the workshops of Nemesis to provide the perfect balance of maximum flexibility and maneuvourability. An Ordo Investigator only gets the best.

Briefly she wondered why she had been sent here, and not a senior Investigator or an Investigator Lord. She had an exemplary record, but after only nine years of service she knew she was still, in the eyes of the Ordo Council on Nemesis, a rookie.

She had just come back from rooting out Hrud from the Ajagravia nebula, protected from their deadly entropic fields by a powerful xeno artefact, when the summons came from the Ordo Council. All eight of them had been waiting for her in the high chamber, the eight most powerful Ordo members in the entire of Segmentum Obscuras, the Obscuras Conclave.

“Isabelle De Shiloh, Junior Investigator First Class.”

“My Lords and Ladies.” She had respectfully answered, stooping low before them.
>>
“Rise. De Shiloh, something has come up which is of the utmost importance to the Ordo and the Imperium, and we want to assign you to it.” That was Senior Investigator Cyarro, someone Isabelle didn’t particularly like due to his close-mindedness and bullish obstinance. But she had to respect his dedication to the Ordo and the Imperium. “Were we not occupied one of us would go, but with the flare of Daemonship sightings in the Belis Corona sector we have to prioritise. It might be nothing more than a wild-grox chase anyway, but circumstances dictate one of us be there, and we can’t think of anyone more qualified then you.”

She had nodded at his words, wondering what the intent was behind them. She was a rising star in the Ordo Investigatorum, and not everyone was pleased with that. There were factions within the Ordo, Radicals, Puritans and many others, and she had no doubt that some of them looked unkindly upon her. Politics within the Ordo was a bloody business; few outsiders ever saw the bitter infighting between competing wings of the Ordo. She had no desire to get caught up in any of it, she wanted to serve the Imperium and fight its foes, not get into an argument with a Monodominant Investigator over why all xenos should be exterminated, or a Polypsykana who saw her as an example of the future ‘evolution’ of humanity.

“De Shiloh, Eight of the Daughters of the Primarchs are coming to the Cadian Gate to tour the defences there in a few days, and they will be staying at Hive Tetra on Macharia. Not this morning someone was found murdered in Tetra. Have a look at the pictures.”

Beamed up on holo-plates around the high chamber were gruesome images of a man mutilated, cut apart and his body formed into an eight pointed star. Everyone in the room knew what that meant.
>>
Silence filled the chamber, and Isabelle found she was holding her breath, and softly let it out. Dolsene, where she had uncovered and purged a Chaos Cult, but where Chaos had responded in kind and she had been nearly killed by those who were once her allies as hell burst all around her. That was the one mission she had come closest to disaster on, and the memory wouldn’t leave her. To think something similar was happening in the heart of the Cadian Gate, and worse it might involve the Royal Daughters…

“You see now why we need you. If there is a Chaos presence on Tetra that wants to try for the Royal Daughters, then it needs to be destroyed. In case the worst comes to the worst, you will be operating under Special Condition for the duration.” Nemesis was an ice world, and she swore she could feel the surface chill at that moment. Special Condition, the power of life and death over the entire planet. She could have the Governor removed if she wanted; she could commandeer the entire Tetra military if she needed to. Even destroy the Hive if there was no other option. So much power…

“My Lords and Ladies. I am honoured that you feel I am worthy of this, and I will not fail you. In the name of the Emperor and the Ordo Investigatorum, I accept this case.”

No sooner had she said the words then she had been hustled on board a specially modified Transport Freighter, a design so commonplace that it was almost invisible in its ubiquity; a perfect blind for a craft in service to the Ordo, and just over a day later she was in the here and now. Now she had her task, and she would fulfil it. She would not let down the Conclave, the Daughters or the Emperor.

Over a restorative cup of caf and a tasteless but effective Nutria-Bar she double-checked the Proctor’s reports. She had read through them last night, and was impressed. His reports were nothing if not meticulous. Not a single detail was missed or overlooked; everything she could want was there for her.
>>
As she took another sip she thought back over last night and what had happened. She had known beforehand about the Royal Daughters, one thing the Ordo did well was find out everything well before anyone else, and she agreed that if disaster was to be averted they would have to go into the underhive and hunt down the cult, destroy it utterly before anything could come of whatever foul rituals they could be cooking up. She had read up on known chaos rituals which could be likely contenders for what they were doing, and the mere thought of them chilled her blood.

That brought the subject of her erstwhile partner to the fore. She knew of Proctor Saal Huulta. Who in the Praeses Region didn’t? He was held up on Nemesis Tessera as the paragon of what the Adeptus Arbites should be. Austere, steely, single-mindedly devoted to his job and to the law. One who wouldn’t ever give up on a case when he's determined to solve it. But in person he was cold, angry and distant. And the way he glared at her when she had introduced herself, even without her ‘gift’ she could feel the torrent of anger and dislike for her emanating from him like it was tangible, readable on a radiological counter.

She knew why of course, she had read his file before embarking on Nemesis. The Junior Investigator who had taken over the Fontaine Case and to use the low gothic ‘cocked it up’. The only case he had ever failed, it was no surprise he would hold a grudge against the Ordo after that. But if he expected her to be the same, he would be in for a shock.
>>
Finishing her caf, she buckled on the tools of the trade. Her leaf-bladed sword- a very special type of sword – and beside it her custom Needle-Bolt Pistol. And then, most importantly of all to her, her throwing knives. The throwing knives on her belt and strapped to her legs completed her, and the idea of venturing into any situation, let alone combat without them troubled her on some level.

Finally she reached out and took the pair of long, silver pins she carried with her off the table. Normally she wore them in her hair, but today she slipped them into her pockets. They were as much a part of her as her knives; they were a link to her inner power and her preferred weapon for stealth missions.

At least she wouldn’t be going on any of those today; there was little point in venturing into the lowerhive or the underhive today with the lack of a substantial lead. Today she would hunt out that lead, and get the measure of her partner into the bargain. She would have to learn to work with him, and he hopefully would do the same, regardless of his own personal grievances.
>>
And that's me done. I'm a bit drunk and need to sleep. 2013 everyone.

What do you all think of Days of Judgement so far?

Hey, if Someone Else, Ahriman's Aide, and all you other writefags are still here, may I request that you write something in WHH about Sigismund as Remilia's other brother? As a Black Templar player, I would really like to see some due given the successor chapters. However, as Big E's plan succeeded in this alternate 40k universe, you are excused from doing this if you all are of the opinion that including second founding chapters would disturb the setting. I'm working on some writing myself but I'm not touching WHH so do as you guys will.
>>
>>22319969

I'm fresh out. And frankly, if polite requests and direct demands aren't going to get these imbeciles to stop with their passive-aggressiveness, appeasement won't work either.

Thanks for everything. See you on Saturday the Fifth. I reiterate my earlier offer. Would you like a writefaggotry present to compensate you for your hard work? A poem, an item description for a campaign, something like that? I'd be quite happy to make one.

>>22319987
Hmm. Interesting idea. I'm hesitant to introduce the Second Founding into the setting when it never happened, but DarkMage might be interested, he's written stories where the Daughters had siblings before.
>>
>>22320272
Or wait, how about this: you still include Sigismund, but he's basically the opposite of his brother Roger. Sigismund is aggressive, zealous as only he can be in WHH, doesn't get along with any of the Guillimans, and hangs out with Lorgar and Faith (in keeping with the religious nature of the Templars who weren't founded)
>>
>>22320382
Wouldn't he be a chick in the WHHverse?
>>
>>22320450
I shouldnt think so... I mean, WHH started on the idea of the primarchs as teen girls, if I'm not mistaken. As Someone Else just said, DarkMage wrote some stuff where the primarch daughters have siblings. I'm just suggesting they expand on that idea to include notable members of the primarchs' legions.
>>
>>22320272

I would be almost tempted to take you up on your offer, as I DM a Deathwatch campaign...but I want to this be free for yah, no strings attached. You guys have already given plenty!
>>
>>22320746
Is it an IRC campaign with a free slot?
>>
>>22321095

Its filled sadly =(

It has one more player then I am normally used to as well. But he only makes it every other week so it isn't to bad.

I have been running it for 2 years now. I had to learn a lot about the 40k world to run it well, before then all I knew was Sisters Of battle since they were my tabletop army.
>>
>>22321229
If only all GMs were willing to learn a lot about the setting instead of acting like prima donnas...

I'm sure your campaign is an excellent one, to have survived 2 years.
>>
Just throwing this out, being that guy, etc. Don't mean to be a dick.

>>As they boarded the gunship de jure

De Jure, as google tells me, is Latin for "concerning law". I know this because I am guessing you were going for du jour, which is French for "of the day". Studied French a bit, but reading it as "The gunship of the law" was pretty amusing too
>>
>>22320533

Well, we already have Ahriman as Miranda's godfather, so I don't see why Remilia wouldn't look up to Sigismund. One thing we haven't explored very much is the relations between the Daughters and their Legions, might be worth thinking about.
>>
>>22321940
Yes please do. Now perhaps, perhaps you could make the the story so that the Black Templars and the other 2nd founding chapters were created under different circumstances.
>>
>>22321940
There's that Lyra fic with Cypher too. She looks up to him as a big brother / godfather figure

>>
>>22322049

Why would you need second founding chapters? Sigismund could be crusading with his first company, doing everything the Templars do, just wearing gold not black.
>>
>>22322388
works too. i care not what the writefags do with their story, so long as they keep it coming.
